Speaker 1 (00:00):
Where we go.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
What the hell is hannahs Storm wearing?
Speaker 3 (00:03):
By the way, did you see that something striped and
something striped?
Speaker 4 (00:07):
It was like a conductor outfit. What the hell is
that thing she's got on? I was totally distracted. I
looked up and I.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Was like, what is she wearing? By the way, is
it just me? Or does hand of Storm.
Speaker 4 (00:18):
Look the exact same today as she did like thirty
years ago? And she said, no work whatsoever. Her is
totally natural. Jeez, that is Hannah Storm right now.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
It's going okay.
Speaker 4 (00:27):
I just want to make sure I'm looking at the
same gal. That's a nice little outfit she's got on there.
By the way, fun with audio, This guy from the
Braves has taken all kinds of smack. We're gonna hear
that coming up at three forty five. This dude, Wiley
Ballard is at his name, got a fan's phone number
in the middle of an on air segment. I think
he's taking away too much.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
He for it.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
We'll get to that coming up three forty five.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Danny Sprinkle is pissed off and angry, and he's motivated
to do something about It's at three twenty this afternoon,
we'll talk to the head coach of the Dogs. They
got the number five recruiting class in the country. On
Wilner is going to join us. Todd Light Wiki's gonna
join us at four o'clock from the Kraken and then
Brian Schmetzer from the Brian Schmetzer Orchestra. We'll joining us
(01:09):
coming up at a BAT five forty five or so
tonight and talk about the big win over the weekend,
look ahead to this coming weekend as well. But excited
to have Todd on the air man because I think
it's it's very far few and far between the opportunities
where teams actually listen to their fan base and then
go do something about it. And look, I mean, people
(01:30):
can have whatever opinion they want about why the Cracking
are doing this, that's totally fine. I just think they
heard their fan base say, hey, look we need cheaper tickets,
we need cheaper concessions, we don't want to lock into
a three five year season ticket terms, and the Crack
and said, okay, done, fine, I mean, how cool is that.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Meantime, we got the Seahawks raising prices over at the
vMac or at Luman. They're up like sixty percent like
the last eight or nine years.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
By the way, how many playoff wins?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Right?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Zero?
Speaker 6 (02:01):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (02:01):
And the Mariners are telling the fans how stupid they
are from their president of Baseball Operations.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
So I think it's fantastic. You know, we brought this
up in a meeting yesterday. What the Sounders do you
think the GM sucks? Vote them out?
Speaker 2 (02:13):
What the hell? You don't go to a game? How
about a free ticket and come see what we're all about?
Speaker 7 (02:18):
Right?
Speaker 4 (02:18):
And sports totally. So I love the fact that the
cracket are doing this. They're basically saying that season ticket
holders are their prices either A are gonna stay flat
or drop? Is that correct? We'll stay flat twenty five
percent off concessions.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
That includes booze. By the way, in the area that
was the Stunnard. That is really cool.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
It's one thing to knock off twenty from a coke,
but to do it for a cocktail.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
I think there was a line in the press release
they said, look, we know that for forty six games
last year all you did was drink anyway, so take
twenty five percent off?
Speaker 5 (02:58):
What the hell?
Speaker 4 (02:58):
No, I'm kidding, I'm half kidding. But title joined us.
They're gonna unveil the third Jersey. So they called jerseys
and not kits the way they do when soccer by
the way to Jersey.
Speaker 8 (03:08):
All right, we call them jerseys hit some like soccer
soccer purists call them kits. But soccer fans here in America,
if you look at the MLS store website, you'll see
them listed as jersey. It's mainly a European thing like
some some it's like pitch field, right, they're interchangeable.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
You called a pitch here, by the way, field Okay, good,
good for you.
Speaker 8 (03:27):
Because the reality is most American soccer fans use the
American term.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
That wasn't the case though. When the Sounders first went yes,
it was so much flat by except by the vocal
minority Hit.
Speaker 8 (03:46):
The vocal minorities spoke up and wanted to be and
they're honestly, the vocal minority made the rest of US
soccer fans look bad. And it's one reason why I'm
so angry at the you know, the purest who says
you must call it a pitch, You must you do this?
Speaker 2 (03:59):
No, come on, can we just be real here? Yeah,
by the way, can you say wanker? Yeah, I mean
the why not?
Speaker 4 (04:07):
The dictionary definition is a contemptible person.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
That's what it is. A wanker. Yeah, I don't know why.
You guys are all wankers.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
By the way, all you soccer fans, you can't even
decide what you want to do. By the way, don't
you have like some kind of secret Dungeons and Dragons
night where you can figure this all out?
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Do we call it a pitch? Do we not call
it a pitch? Do we call it? Do we not
call it? I'm gonna stop sending you. Yeah, that's fine.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
Well, when you ask all the all the people that
cover the team that are angry about the good stuff
that schmid have you heard about this?
Speaker 2 (04:38):
By the way, he wasn't here it happen.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Apparently Jada Evans and some other people that cover the
team are angry that Schmitzer gives us information on the air.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Well, waitst on, aren't we the ft? That's exactly which
was exactly my point. Yes, and they're mad that we don't.
You know, we we get stuff we goof around.
Speaker 8 (05:00):
So the thing was was last week she mets her
at about twelve thirty pm, goes into a press conference
and says, you know, the question marks for a couple
of players, and then five hours later joined Softie and
I and this was a couple of weeks ago, so
I think you were on here too, and and just
spills the specific details about those players, and Jada was
(05:21):
mad that Brian told us the specific details and.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Direct Brian can tell whomever whatever he wishes to tell,
right And at your point about the flagship station is
right on, because I mean, look, those guys get stuff
because of the Seahawks and Mariners.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
And we get stuff because we're the Huskies and all that.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
By the way, the hockey hockey crowd is already speaking
up on a text line. It's a sweater, it's that
guy sweater.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Don't be that guy girl. What was the term that
what's her name?
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Alison over at Route called it shinny hockey, remember that.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Nobody to do what the hell she was talking about?
Like anybody the business knows what that means? Well, nobody
here's in the business. And then the other they don't
even know what the hell you're talking about.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
The other half of the people like me who heard
it live, was did she just call it bleepy hockey?
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Which she should be because it's on cable TV, or
at least it was back in the day.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
But we'll talk to Todd come.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
I mean, it just brings up the quick like, what
do you want to see these franchises do right? Like, honestly,
I think I think if the team sucks, you should
get a refund. I mean, what what happens if you
go to a restaurant and you're order a terrible meal
and you say, can I talk to the manager? Manager
comes out and says, you know what, it's on the house.
Funny you mentioned that, Softie.
Speaker 8 (06:30):
About ten years ago, the Sounders got destroyed by the
La Galaxy at home, the fans got a refund for
good game.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
I love that. It's fantastic. I'm not saying I gonna
do it for every game.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
But if there's just a piss poor night where the
team is awful, they didn't bother showing up, whatever, a
bunch of guys, load management, nobody plays, blah blah blah,
give him a refund.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
I just I just think the good will that franchises
can build up with fans will end up paying off
way more money they lose in the short run by
not doing this well.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
It's it's like there's a story I don't know who
it is, or some golfer that walked by a bunch
of kids and people are giving them grief, and you
know because you got kids, but you stopped for two
seconds to say hello, you give a kid a fist pump,
take a picture. Fan for life, right done? You took
it two seconds, literally to earn a fan for life.
So I look, I would love to see the Seahawks.
(07:24):
Instead of raising prices. John Schneider's mad or sad for
the twelves we missed the postseason?
Speaker 2 (07:31):
When do youa draft prices? How's that? I just drop them?
You know what we're gonna we're gonna do. We haven't
made it five percent? Whatever?
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Blo back in your pocket? Or how about we increase
these season ticket gifts that they give out. Did you
get your email? By the way, I got a good one.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
It was like the shirt or the jacket or the
football or whatever. See I got the I got the
upper tier, upper tier. What I got a.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Varsity letter jacket? Oh you did? Because why do you
get that original season ticket? Because you're parents were there
back in the night? Grandparents?
Speaker 9 (08:02):
Right?
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Because I've bet tickets for twenty seven years.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
So apparently that's not good enough.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
But all right, okay, fine, then how about you just say,
you know what, you can have one of these trinkets
or here's a hundred bucks, Yeah, take them whatever over
the letter, right, I mean, and like you said, the
good will we're gonna break. Danny Sprinkle is putting together
a hell of a class for twenty twenty five. He's
angry about what happened last year, and he's not gonna
stand for it anymore. You're gonna want to hear this
(08:30):
if you're a Husky basketball fan. Next on ninety three
three kJ RFM.
Speaker 6 (08:34):
You're listening to the home of the Husky, the Kraken,
and Seattle's best NFL Draft coverage GM the twenty twenty
five NFL Draft.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Now back to Suthian Dick.
Speaker 6 (08:44):
Proudly brought to you by Emerald Queen Casino on Sports
Radio ninety three point three AJR FM.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
All right, well, obviously a disappointing season, Dick for Husky basketball.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Nobody thought last place in the Big Ten was gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Now making Danny Sprinkle's first I remember you and I
talking to Wilner over the offseason thinking they might be
a tournament team and that did not happen.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
But he has gone out.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Danny Sprinkle has along with his staff and just crushed
it in recruiting transfer Portal High School ranks number five
in the country.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
As a matter of fact, right.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Now High School number eight, Portal only only team in
the country with those two accolades. Well, the guy, the
wizard behind the curtain that's pulling all the levers, pushing
all the buttons is Danny Sprint Go. When he's with
us now on the radio station, Danny, how are you man?
Speaker 5 (09:31):
I'm doing great, doing great.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
I mean, I feel a lot better than I did
three hundred and sixty five days ago.
Speaker 7 (09:37):
I was happy to get this job, but I knew
how much work we had to get done, yep, in
that first year, and actually to have a have a
year to you know, evaluate these recruits and be here
and just kind of you know, have more of a
comfort level.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
And you know, I love I love some of the
pieces that we've added to next year's team. And and
like I said, I want to give a lot of
credit to my staff, my assistan mus have done a
tremendous job and not just that like even you know,
you know people within the department. You know, our academics
are Nutrition is Strength coach, Like the people when these
kids come on visits or we're doing sooms have done
(10:11):
a tremendous job, and so I want to make sure
I'm giving them a lot of the credit too, because
they deserve it.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Well, Danny, before we get into details about the guys
you're bringing in, couple of guys I know we can't
talk about just yet, but the majority of these kids
we can talk about. We haven't had a chance to
catch up, right since the end of the year. I
know you're on with MJ back at the Final four
in San Antonio, but just give us your thoughts on
how difficult year number one was and what you learned
(10:38):
about what this program was all about and kind of
what you needed to do.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Yeah, I mean, it was a it was a trying
first year, you know, I knew. I knew as soon
as I saw our team in the summer, Like I
knew like once we got the job, Like it was hard.
There wasn't a lot of big ten level talent out there,
you know, and I think we did a pretty good
job wrapping together a recruiting class last year. You know,
(11:03):
obviously we you know, we'd missed on some guys when
we first got the job. But then we you know,
we picked up some pieces and we got some guys
in May, you know, which you know, you're not getting
big ten level guys in May, and so, uh, I
knew we had our work cut out for us. And
and that's why I knew, you know, it was just
kind of trying to develop the culture the first year
and what our expectations were, you know, and that way,
(11:25):
hopefully some guys that would you know, stick around and
knew what to happen. And that's what you know, Franken
Zoomer going to be about, you know, with them coming
back for a year or two.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Uh, you know, I.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Think they know what I expect, you know, they know
what practices are going to be like. And now it's
their job to be leaders on the court and help
some of these incoming guys, you know, establish that identity
that we want and that toughness and that discipline and
that ownership, and so it'll be uh you know, I'm excited. Uh,
I mean, I've never been so you know motivated, and uh,
you know, I mean the league is tremendous. You guys
(11:56):
saw that. I mean, every single every single team in
our league is getting great recruits. I mean you look
at I mean, Michigan's got three of the top kids
in the portal, like everybody USC, UCLA, everybody's getting good players. So, uh,
now we just have to we have to get great
talent and then we've got to coach them, you know,
We've got to coach them and uh, you know, and
and and just keep building.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Well, let's start with your returners, Frank and Zoom. That
you mentioned it was in keeping them away from the
NBA draft or more was it keeping them away from
the transfer portal?
Speaker 2 (12:26):
And how hard was it to keep those guys? Yeah? No,
I mean, you know, neither of them wanted to leave.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Like. They love it here, you know, I mean, they
love the Huskies, they love you know, how people have
treated them here, and and it's important for them to
to get this you know program back on track, you know.
I mean, you know, Frank's been here, you know, for
a couple of years now and hasn't had the success
that he wanted when he first came here. Uh, same
thing with Zoom, you know, I mean, Zoom takes a
lot of pride and being from Seattle and uh, you know,
(12:55):
so it was just, you know, we had a you
know a great relationship with those two and uh, you know,
and they know my my goal for this program and
and in the standard that I'm going to hold those
two two and uh you know, and it's and it's
gonna it's gonna take a lot of work, but they're
they're willing to put that in and to make this
program successful. Again.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
Well, Danny Sprinkle again is with us on the air,
and Washington Basketball has the number five recruiting class in
the country, partly due to uh, some hot shot high
school basketball players that are all showing up. Nico Bundalow,
JJ Mandequit Cortland Mouldrew are all in the top one
hundred in the nation in in high school basketball. Tell
(13:37):
us about these kids and uh what what stands out
about them and what should fans expect in year one
from these guys?
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Yeah, you know, I mean, JJ, he's a he's a
true old school throwback point guard. You know, he's a
team us a point guard. I think he's got two
gold medals. Uh, you know, he played on one of
the elite AAU teams. He played at Utah Prep this year,
which is one of the better prep schools in the Tree.
But he's just a he's a tremendous facilitator. Like he's
who you want to play with if you're a scorer
(14:05):
or a big because he's going to get you the
ball on time, on target, which we had a problem
doing this year. You know, I mean our uh you know,
everybody thought, like you know, we are our our point
guard play has has to drastically improve this year, especially
in the Big ten, and and JJ does that. He Uh,
he's he's going to be a tremendous player here Courtland. Uh,
(14:26):
you know, I believe he he broke Malik Monks scoring
record in the state of Arkansas. Wow, he's a He's
a he could play combo guard. He can play one,
two three. He's very very talented.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Another top hundred kid who just kept going up the rankings.
You know, I mean we beat out a lot of
SEC schools to get him. He came on his visit,
he loved it. Uh. You know, are my assistant to
Marlow Slocum had a connection to his family and that's
the only reason.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
We got him.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Like, like I said, everybody down there wanted him, and so, uh,
you know, he's going to be a tremendous player, can
really score it. And Nico you know who you know,
played a prolific prep and McDonald's all American, you know,
a lot of talent, a lot of raw talent. And
really excited to work with him and and develop him.
And uh, because he he has he has a chance
(15:14):
in a couple of years. Uh, you know, if he
he plays his cards right and keeps working and develops
on and off the court, he's got a chance to
do some special things. And then we have, you know,
we have a couple other you know, freshmen, and hopefully
we'll be able to announce here in the next day
or two that that are both tremendous. So I love
the hopefully five freshmen that we'll be able to talk
(15:35):
about the next time we get on, you know. And
that's part of developing the program, you know, like two, three,
four years, you know, and hopefully we can keep these
guys and and uh, you don't keep men husky uniforms
for a long time.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Well, and then last year you had a great commit
in Wesley Yates and he decided to leave had a
good season at a usc but he's back now, which
gives you, along with your freshman you have coming in.
You know, you know, you got five of the top
thirty one recruits in the history of Washington Husky basketball
on this roster right now.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
I mean that is that is pretty impressive. Coach.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
So talk to me about Wesley Yates. Why did he
de commit originally and why did he decide to come back?
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Yeah, you know what, Uh I mean, you got you
have to ask him why he decommitted, you know, I mean,
I don't know, Like I know, I know he loved
his time at University of Washington. He loved Seattle. And
that's how we kind of got back involved when he
went into the portal, you knowing to be honest, like,
there was some nights where I mean, I thought it
was done at Kentucky, you know, like he was going
(16:37):
to Kentucky and that's where the agent was telling me
and everybody was telling me, and so you know, and
whatever happened fell through, and and uh, you know, like
I said, everybody in the country wanted him. But uh,
we're a static to have him. He's he's one of
the elite scorers in our conference. You know, I mean
he averaged seventeen a game in Big Ten play this
year as a freshman. And you guys saw how talented
(16:59):
the freshman class was this year in the Big Ten,
with probably four or five guys that are going to
get you know, in lottery picks, from the Harper and
Bailey kid at Rutgers, the Yaka Chonas at Illinois, Will
Riley at Illinois. And he was the leading scorer out
of all those freshmen, uh, you know, was seventeen a game.
And so we needed that on the wing. You know,
we uh, you know, we we we needed that this year.
(17:21):
You know, we didn't really have an end of clock
guard that could just go get a bucket and h
and can get and could just get hot and just
make six seven threes and do it consistently, not just
one out of every you know, fourteen games. But he's
he's a tremendous He's an elite scorer and uh no,
I'm I'm a static to have him back.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Well, Danny Sprinkle again as with us, and I had
to look at the phonetics about fifteen times to make
sure I don't butcher this guy's last name and by
the way, if you could just sign guys whose names
are easy to pronounce, we'd really appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
You need more exactly more uh more. Bob Johnson's on
the team.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
But thanks to Mitch Praxel over there for a clearing
all this up. But Jacob Nasovich, who was the transfer
from Lipscomb, he was the conference player of the year
six eight, two twenty. I believe out of Wisconsin. You
said when you showed up here, you wanted size, and
this guy's going to give it to you.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
He is you know, we just call him j oh
with jail or Jago, but he you know what he
is is is you know, our skill level really needed
to improve at every position, especially to four and five spot.
He can really shoot it. And he's just he's just
a good basketball player, you know. I mean, he has
some great games against power five teams, you know, whether
(18:42):
I think it was against Kentucky, you know, Iowa State
and the n stab A tournament. You know, he led
his team to the NSTABLE tournament average like twenty and eight.
But he's just he's just skilled. Like I said, you know,
he can space the floor, he can drive past bigger guys,
he can score it on the block, he can pass,
and so he's going to give us a lot of
versatility and just his experience and you know, big time
(19:05):
kid that you know, like he evens said like he
wants to come here to win.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
And when we talk to a lot of.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
These recruits, you know a lot of them, you know,
sometimes the last thing out of their mouth is winning.
You know, they want to know about nil or minutes,
things like that, like this kid and Kamari, A lot
of these kids we signed, they're just like, coach, I
just want to win. And so, you know, very very
impressive young man and we're very fortunate to get him.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
Danny sprinkle Head Basketball coach to you dub joining us
here on ninety three point three kJ RFM, coach, Is
it going to be difficult to fit all these players
into your style of play because you have an entirely
new team other than Zoom and Frank or are they
kind of hand picked of you know, and you're handpicking
these guys that you know will already fit what you
like to do.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Uh No, I mean it's going to be a challenge.
It's going to be a challenge because you know it's
you never know until you get them, you know, and
like we've seen film, but they all played in different styles.
You know, we're gonna play. We're gonna have to play
a lot faster than we did last year. You know
with our group last year, like we had to we
had to sometimes milk the possessions. Like that's not how
(20:09):
I like to play, you know. I like to let
we like to get up and down the floor. And
that's how my teams have played in the past and
had a fast tempo and you know, get up more threes. Uh,
but you got to be able to make threes in
order to shoot more trees. And so uh that's one
thing that we really attacked in in this recruiting and uh,
you know, and the best thing is is competition. You know,
when guys know that there's somebody behind them, it brings
(20:32):
out the best of them. And we're gonna have We're
gonna have. I can't wait for practice, you know, because
like I mean, we got I got young guys that
are going to come in with a chip on their shoulder.
I got you know, we got transfers that pretty much
all come from winning programs, so like they know they
know what's expected, and like they're coming here for a reason,
and so it uh, I can't wait. I can't wait
(20:53):
for the competition that we're going to see every day
in practice and the intensity. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
Well, Danny Sprinkle is with us, and Danny, let's reverse
rolls for a second here, which is very scary for you,
by the way.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Okay, so let's imagine you're me that I'm you.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
You're you're five foot ten, you're out of shape, you
collect Star Wars toys, you're fifty two years old, all right,
but you love the Huskies.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
And you're wondering what is all this gonna mean? Like
Dick just mentioned it, right, you got a lot of
new guys. I mean, these guys got to come together
fast before you know, non conference play starts in November.
This was a last place team a year ago. Is
this now when NCAA tournament team? Is this middle of
the road Big ten team.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
What would you be.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Expecting Husky basketball to look like when it's all said
and done in twenty twenty five, twenty six.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Yeah, my expectation is to be in the NCAA Tournament
and not just get there, like you know, we gotta
win games in the INSTABA tournament. It Yeah, like I
mentioned earlier, I've never been so motivated. In fact, I'm
pissed off. That's probably the best word. And I probably
shouldn't say that I'm air, but love it.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
It is what it is.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Like I did not watch the selection show for the
first time, and I don't eat forever, Like I could
not watch the selection show because once you get a
taste of the Insteadway Tournament. My teams have been there
three straight years, and once you get a taste of it,
there's nothing like it. And every day we are attacking
this roster with intensity, and I mean like we're getting
(22:22):
after my assistants had done a tremendous job, you know,
getting involved with some of the best kids in the country,
and like I said, we still got one or two
more that we still have to sign, you know, to
complete this class. But like I said, I want to
build this roster with so much competition that you know,
like it'll be crazy like and to be able to
get on the court is going to be a privilege
(22:42):
and they're gonna have to bring it every day to
get there. And I know that's what you have to
do because playing against purdues in Michigan States and Michigan
and Wisconsin, like like, I see how their rosters are built,
and I can only imagine how their practices are. And
that's that's what we got to get.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
To talk about the passion of the fan base. Was
it what you expect? And did it wane at all
towards the end of the season. When I was there,
it seemed pretty full and pretty loud to me, but
I wasn't at all the games.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
But did it wane at all with the with the
record late.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
In the season, No, I thought, Uh, I thought our
crowds were great, you know, I really did. You know.
I appreciate the you know, the people that came you
know and supported us, you know, and I think the
uh I thought most of our home games, I thought,
you know, we're very well attended, you know, and I
appreciate it because, like I said, we weren't a lot
(23:30):
of our effort. It didn't result in wins, but I think,
you know, they saw we were trying to play the
right way and we were competing. You know, it was
just you know, sometimes it just it is what it is.
And the ball didn't go our way that night, but uh,
you know, it wasn't for a lack of effort or
trying or competing. You know. The one thing I will
say is every time we go on the road, when
(23:52):
we go to Michigan State in Wisconsin and Michigan, like
even Iowa, you know, I mean there's fifteen sixteenth people
there and there wasn't a lot of Husky fans there,
ye ye, you know, like traveling when we played Purdue
here when we had to lead in the second half,
that place got loud when Purdue made a run and
(24:12):
it was three thousand Perdue fans here. Indiana had three
thousand fans, Illinois had three thousand fans. So now it's
my job, in the team's job. We got to be
good enough to where there's so many people from Seattle
coming to our game that those people can't get tickets
at our place. Like I don't want to look up
in two years when we're playing Purdue and see thirty
five hundred Perdue fans in our arena. I don't want
(24:33):
to see you know, green when we play Oregon, you know,
stuff like that, and uh, you know, but like I said,
we have to do our part, and uh you know,
and it's it's it's going to be an exciting journey.
It really is. But I appreciate the fans because I
thought they were. I thought they were tremendous supporting us
this year. And I know at times it was a
you know, like I said, from a win lost standpoint.
(24:53):
At times it was it was hard.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Well, you're getting me excited, man, I know you're getting
Dick fired up to us.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Let's start the games right now? Is in November. I mean,
I'm having a hard time standing still here in you talk.
Speaker 5 (25:04):
Man.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
I mean, you know, look, we can we can edit
this out, you know, for for later on. But halleluya
all that baby, are you kidding me? I mean that
that is exactly what I want to hear out of
my head, Coach Danny, exactly what I want to hear
you say.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
That's right, baby, that's right, you got you got, you gotts.
Sound like my family. They get all excited about this
recruiting and I'm like, hey, listen, these recruiting rankings.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Don't win no games right now.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
The guy's got to come and produce, and uh no,
it's gonna be awesome. I really like the character, the
toughness and the and the.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Talent like we have.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
We have talent, we have size, we have athleticism, you know,
and now it's now it's those guys you know, sacrificing
and coming together.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Yeah, go get him, man, we'll talk down the road, buddy,
appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
You got it, man. Thank guys.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
All right, Danny.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
Sprinkle with us. Wow, I think that's exactly what you
want to hear from your head coach. Last year is
not good enough, no doubt, was not good enough and
needs to improve and needs to improve fast. So congrats
on them for you know, step number one. But obviously,
as you know, Dick as a coach got to make
this whole thing work and put this recipe together. So
awesome stuff from Danny Sprinkle right there, man, we're gonna
(26:15):
break a little fun with audio coming up, and then
John Wilder we'll get John's thoughts on all this two
at five tonight right here on ninety three three KJRFM.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
It's now time for Sufday in Dick's Fun with audio.
Jimmy g pawn Star, Jimmy mister garoppolo. Now let's have
some fun with audio.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
All right.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
We're back on a busy Tuesday afternoon right here on
ninety three three KJARFM. It's the segment that at least
three people have been waiting for, and I think all
of them are in my family or Dick's family.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
By the way, my mom, that's the way we were all.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Baby here at KJR ninety three three KJR FM every
single day a little fun with audio slash. Hay, did
you hear that? Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that?
Speaker 2 (26:58):
What's that? Dick?
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Let's start with the news. What he's talking about? Man,
this thing just took off like a freaking ball of fire.
Yesterday on the Braves Fandual Sports Network during their game
against the Blue Jays in Toronto, Okay, in Toronto, Atlanta,
broadcaster Wiley Ballard got a fans phone number in the
middle of a segment.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
Wiley, how are things up there at the Corona Rooftop?
Thanks are pretty great, Brandon. We're having a lot of
fun up here off the Corona rooftop. Who do we
got you wish?
Speaker 3 (27:27):
Your name?
Speaker 5 (27:27):
My name is Lauren Laurence, all right, and I'm Kayla Kayla,
and you guys hang out the rooftop lounge.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Often once a year I come out to visit.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
Okay, we timed it pretty well.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
All right.
Speaker 5 (27:38):
How are you guys feeling roof for the Braves today?
Speaker 1 (27:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
I'm hoping for the bust.
Speaker 5 (27:44):
What about you? Are you Braves fan?
Speaker 7 (27:45):
Now?
Speaker 5 (27:46):
Not quite quiet? All right, I'm gonna I'm gonna go
to work up here, guys. Good luck the rest of
the way. Okay, Wiley, we got five innings, four innings
to get the numbers. Come on, come on, let us
some more Braves fans. All right, So they want me
to get your number. I'm dead serious, they're saying to
(28:06):
my right, I shouldn't believe me because she thinks you
guys are are not making this up. Even if you
guys weren't to, I might use that in the future.
That's a pretty good move. This is unbelievable.
Speaker 8 (28:18):
So the best part of this right now is that
Wiley could totally be faking and this might be the
new move. You just walk around with a fan duel
microphone and an earpiece in and convinced fans that they're
actually on TV.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
I should have thought of this years ago. I am speechless.
I got the number. We're good for Lime, and I'm
a little nervous.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Broadcast history, all.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
Right, First of all, when the guy started talking, like
the first couple seconds, he sounds like Hank Hill for
crying out louder.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
What the hell a girl here? So it's a cartoon.
What the hell's girl? She called the girl Lawrence.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
That's right?
Speaker 4 (28:50):
And then second of all, so there's been a lot
of reaction to this. A lot of female media members
are coming out saying if a female did that, they
be ripped apart and criticized by everybody. Okay, uh. Ralph Vachiano,
who does he work for? Ralph Vacchiano works for Fox Sports.
(29:10):
He's an NFL writer for Fox Sports, says it was
an unprofessional disgrace from the reporter, to the guys in
the booth, to the producer in the truck, who could
have stopped it at any point. It's not fun, it's
not cool, it's not harmless. It's only a standard for harassment,
says Ralph Vacchiano. I'm gonna read you another quote from
(29:30):
somebody here. People getting mad about the Braves reporter asking
for the girl's phone number are insane. How does that
offend you? It was innocuous and cute, good TV. I'd
say it doesn't detract from the game or season.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Lighten up. You know who said that last quote.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
By the way, Olivia Harlan, Kevin's daughter for her, said
that on social media. I think there's one thing that
people are missing here when they criticized this guy.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
He was egged on by the wagon. This wasn't his idea.
Are you kidding me? I mean, this came from the booth.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
This wasn't like he was up there acting like a creeper,
a pervert, just looking for numbers. And they're in Toronto
looking for Braves fans, right Jackson in Toronto, So yes,
I mean, look, nobody knows for certain what the reaction
would have been if it was a female reporter looking
for a dude's phone number in right field at the
(30:24):
Rogers Center. But I do agree with Olivia on this
that people have got to freaking lighten up. Man, good god, unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Well, we talk about this a lot, how there are
people out there that just want to complain about things
and just want to be upset about things, And you
know what, if that's the way you want to live
your life, that's cool. I know, for my I used
to be more on that side, and as I've gotten older,
I have gone less and it is takes way more
to offend me now than when I was twenty five
(30:52):
years of age. There is no question about that. Oh
you're you're just using common sense.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
I'm just like you, tired of all.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
I don't need to get stressed about everything and offended
about everything.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
It makes life a whole lot more fun.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
There's people that just wake up and want to be angry, right,
I mean, I saw I thought it was hilarious that
the guy was getting egged on by the people of
the booth. And maybe he is a single guy and
maybe they're single gals.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
On what the hell? I mean? People do that now?
Like they exchanged and he's getting criticized. What else they do?
They go home and they have sex?
Speaker 1 (31:22):
Men?
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Whoa way? Are you serious? They make babies? Don't say
that on this it's true, there might be an eight
year old.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Well, if that's the case, I sincerely apologize.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
I'm me and a daddy.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
That's right, all right, But you know what, just make
sure if they have a baby, just playing it so
the baby's born over the off season.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Please, Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear that? What's that? Scotty?
Speaker 4 (31:46):
Is it gage is how you say it. Jackson Scotty
gains from number nine news in Denver. That's important here
in Denver.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Ripping Colorado's football program yesterday for their decision to retire
Shadoor Sanders number two jersey and for doing it so
soon at their spring game this weekend.
Speaker 9 (32:07):
See You announced today that Travis Hunter's number twelve and
Shador Sanders number two will be retired by the school forever.
The too will join just four other CU buff football
players with their numbers retired in their one hundred thirty
five year history. They'll be celebrated on Saturday at the
spring game. I absolutely disagree with this decision. Hunter, as
(32:28):
a Heisman winner, I could understand. Then again, Rashaan Salam
had to wait twenty three years for his number retirement,
but Shador seems like a forced plus one here. Quarterbacking
your team to a ten and seven record over two
years and ending with a blowout loss in the Alamo
Bowl does not qualify you for immediate jersey retirement. See
You has so much history and so many legends in
(32:50):
their one hundred and thirty five years, and perhaps one
day would be the right day to retire Shador's number,
but not today, And I feel like the school felt
like they had to do it to please the head
coach and oh yeah, maybe sell some more tickets to
the spring game. At least they're not retiring Shiloh's number
as well.
Speaker 4 (33:05):
Wow, I mean, I agree with the guy he said yesterday.
I think it's even more of a joke now than
it was yesterday.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
But if they retire Shiloh's jersey too, I mean, why not?
Why not?
Speaker 4 (33:15):
Why not just retire Dion's number two while you're at
it at Colorado?
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Never played there?
Speaker 3 (33:18):
So what he's the head twenty one's retired by Colorado?
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Never played. Do you have a favorite number like four?
Just retire four?
Speaker 3 (33:25):
And the reason why they're doing it the spring game
is because they want to do it while Dion's there, right,
and they want to do it while the two of.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Them can be there. I mean, like what I mean,
you don't do this.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
You don't retire a number of a guy that went
thirteen and twelve, never beat a ranked team and never
won a ball game.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
Of course not ever, it's embarrassing. It was embarrassing yesterday,
it's embarrassing today. He's still going to be a first
round draft pick and they can do it. Maybe I think, yeah,
I wouldn't bet.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
I would bet on it, but he would be shocked
if you found I wouldn't be shocked. I mean pretty surprised.
We fell out entirely out of the first round, and
I'd be surprised. But do it in five I understand
Dion's not going to be there in five or six years.
He'll be probably coaching another team, but doing when Shuder
Sanders is an NFL All pro if he becomes that,
uh todd Lightwiki president Kraken gonna join us next on
ninety three three kJ RFM
