Speaker 1 (00:00):
Coming to you live from the Elliot Avenue studios of
Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM. This
is our weekly visit with ESPN's Mina Chimes, brought to
you by Bridge Physical Therapy and Wellness just off I
ninety and Mercer Island. Bridge is your independent go to
clinic for quality care for the whole family. Taylor to
(00:20):
you and your Goals cult today at two O six
four O two six three three nine to schedule an
appointment and to let Bridge Physical Therapy be your bridge
to wellness. Now with Mina Chimes, Here's SOFTI and Dick Hi.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Big thanks to Bridge Physical Therapy on Mercer Island for
joining us UH for sponsoring this segment every week with
Mina Kimes normally by the way later in the week
on a Friday, but she'll be a little busy yes
with rounds two and if we're at the NFL draft, Mina,
are you going to Green Bay? And if you are,
are you lucky enough to get a hotel room in
Green Bay?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I am, and I am he if it's lucky though
to be spendingly No shade to Green Bay, but it's
not my favorite place to go to this time.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Of year.
Speaker 5 (01:07):
Yeah, this time of the year.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Look, I mean, it's better to be there now than
be there in mid December, by the way, So that's true.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
Congratulation, That is true.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
And we're told it's going to be in the fifties
or so, although we also got a wind advisory. But yeah,
NFL Live my show is going to be online on
site for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, which is very exciting. Yeah,
I can't wait. I mean, I do. I do want
to say. I do love Title Town. The experience is
very cool. I've been there before. Uh, it's just yeah,
it's a little cult. I'm a baby.
Speaker 6 (01:37):
I mean, let's let's talk about John Schneider in the
in the offensive line, because it's it's always been well
known that he hasn't been great at getting offensive line.
But I think the barbs in the arrows here in
Seattle have been much more frequent this offseason than they
have been in the past. So do you think John
Schneider kind of feels the pressure this year to draft
an interior offensive lineman high and will do you think
(01:59):
he'll like secum to that pressure because it's greater than
it's ever been.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
Yeah, I do.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
I think so I feel like I've heard him say
a few comments that it's a little bit you know,
like very I don't know, want to say defensive, but
like very cognizant of the criticism and deserve really So,
I mean, you guys, when we talked about this last week,
I mentioned that I thought, you know, he deserves some
credit for picking Charles Cross and Abe Lucas, who's been
(02:26):
good when he's healthy. But it's that interior. It kind
of feels like, I don't know, the curse of the Bambino,
the hurse of Mac Dunger, right, because because really since then,
it's just been such a struggle. And I do think
that the criticism has probably amplified this offseason and headed
the draft because they didn't do anything right. And I
know they've got their reasons, and I know there's medicals
(02:48):
and price tags and all of that, but at the
end of the day, you got the players you got,
and I don't feel like they should be very comfortable
with the ones they have on the interior.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Well, right now it's Lemea and Anthony Bradford along with
big olu Et center, and it looks like for today Mina,
it's big o'lu's job to lose it's center, right unless
something crazy happens. I thought he played a lot better
after he got bench for Connor Williams.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Maybe that was the wake up he needed.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
But honestly, how much better should we expect the Seahawks
offensive line to be on Monday morning versus where they.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
Are right now? Yeah? Hopefully a lot, but hopefully a lot.
We could just hang out and just see how long
it takes for the phone to come back.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
See, the problem is, I never know if it's us
or on the other end, because with the Emperor Queen,
we've lost the internet here every now and then, Jackson,
I assume you can still hear us by the way
you're in okay, good, So it's not us. I mean
that really is the question for me, Dick, is how
much damage can John Schneider really do. He's got ten
picks in the draft. Yeah, he's got five in the
top ninety two. A lot of people that cover this
(03:56):
stuff for a living say this is a good year
for interior offensive lineman. So I'm not gonna lose my
mind if they don't draft one at number EIGHTEENCA there's
plenty of opportunity down the road to get one, but
meet us back with us and mean and just you
know again, how much better should we honestly expect John
Schneider to make this offensive line in three days?
Speaker 5 (04:14):
Yeah, So, the.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Way I see it is a lot of it has
to do with things that are out of the CX
controller or how the draft shakes that before them, because
I don't think with the exception of the Bengals as
maybe a possibility, it's likely that someone's gonna go, you know,
interior offensive line before then. However, if one of I
would say, four players tedor On McMillan, Matthew Golden, Tyler,
(04:38):
Warren verand likely or Colson Lovelin are there, I think
they would be tempted to go with the pass catcher
over one of the offensive and I wouldn't be mad
about that because those are really good players. At eighteen,
it's be really good value. But I do think if
those four players are gone, and it's very likely that
they will be, then it would be a mistake for
the Seas to pass on interior offensive line.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
How do you rank those pass catchers and and is
it different?
Speaker 6 (05:01):
Is your overall ranking different than it would be if
you're just specifically ranking them for the Seahawks, knowing what
the Seahawks have a wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
That's a good point. I think both McMillan and Golden
would complement the existing group. McMillan more of the X
traditional big body pass catcher, contested catch guy and then
Golden more of the speeds to the more deep but
you know, bothrepare well with Jackson Smith and Jig on
the slot and then between Warren Loveland. I kind of
(05:32):
think Loveland actually makes a little bit more sense for
the Clint Kubiak offense, and I bet they love him.
You know, he is more of your traditional plug and
play wide tight end and I think he would be
a fantastic pickup because he is also like a true
weapon as a pass catcher, So I think he would
be very useful for Seattle.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Mean at times with us courtesy a bridge physical therapy
on Mercer Island and Mina. I'm just going kind of
team by team, and not that you care what I'm
doing here, but I'm putting a check mark next to
teams that need quarterback and an X next to teams
that don't. And then I got to the Niners at
number eleven. Brock Purty's not signed yet, He's got one
more year left on his deal. If the Niners are
(06:11):
sitting there, I'm not saying that they take should do
at number eleven, But do they feel like they can
say no to a quarterback if there's one that they
like in this draft because they have brock Purty.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
If this was last year and we were talking about
the quarterbacks last year, I might say that it would
be a serious conversation. Assuming the Niner see it the
same way as I think a lot of people.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
He has a lot of teams see it.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
I can't think that they're gonna want to go for
one of those quarterbacks over Purty, even as expensive as
he's going to be.
Speaker 6 (06:41):
I just don't see how they get any better with it.
If they can't win the Super Bowl, which they couldn't
with him making three hundred thousand dollars, how are they
possibly going to win the super Bowl with him making
forty five to fifty million dollars.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Jod gets a lot harder. And this is where, and
I know c X fans are loving, this is where
the Trey Lance trade starts to actually cause problems, right
because for forever I was like, Eh, whatever doesn't matter.
All these are an all star team and they got
the cheap quarterbacks. But suddenly all those all Star players
you can't really afford them anymore. You start losing talent,
(07:16):
and then you didn't have the draft picks to stock
up at some positions. I mean, Nights have a lot
of needs. That's really shocking to me going through the
team needs and seeing all the directions that you go
in in the draft. I would argue all three levels
of the defense they could augment in this one, as
well as the offensive line and tight end. So a
lot of needs on that team. They things got very different.
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Very quickly.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Well, I guess I'm just trying to figure out, guys,
and again meet to times with us from ESPN. She's
gonna be in Green Bay all week long obviously for
NFL Live on ESPN.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
So check her out on the Telly.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Which team would move up to potentially draft should Doure
and how far would like the Steelers, for example, go
to do it, because if we're getting to San Francisco,
then Dallas doesn't need a quarterback. Miami is not going
to draft a quarterback. The Colts just took Richardson. The
Falcons have Panics, the Cardinals have Murray, the Bengals have Burrow.
How far up do you think a team like a
(08:11):
Pittsburgh Steelers would go if they covet should do or
Sanders to get him?
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Not far? First of all, I don't think they'd covet him.
I think they would take him, but there's just not
that sort of smoke around, and you know, maybe it
is them covering their intentions, but I just don't think
that there's going to be a need to trade. I
could be wrong, but you laid it out. If he
gets past the Saints, and I think.
Speaker 5 (08:40):
I'll get her back on hold, guys, right, yeah, I
get her back on hold. I want to ask her
about you realize that.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
This is going to give me an aneurysm right when
this happens, if you choose to well the way, it's
just kind of I'm starting to kind of snap here
a little bit with this phone thing.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
And it's not just her, it's the Sas.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
The question happened the other day, it happened again today,
It's happened three or four times the last week.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
Are we not paying our phone bill?
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Well?
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Yeah, somebody else you check on that, like, Caul, can
we call Comcast to make sure we're paying the phone
bill around here?
Speaker 1 (09:05):
I checked it, we are, and she's back on.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Okay, all right me, and we're gonna give this one
more shot because your phone's broken up now a couple
of times. But you're saying that you don't think that
the Steelers really covet should door, and it sounds like,
because I was asking Hugh milling about an hour ago
or half hour ago, what the NFL thinks of this guy,
I'm trying to figure that out.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Yeah, I don't think that. Uh, let me put it
this way. I think after cam wore, no one is
as high on this quarterback class as us here certainly
right now. That doesn't mean they're not gonna take a
quarterback because frankly, they just need one so desperately in Pittsburgh.
And so I do think it twenty one, they'll consider
it seriously. But you know, like the same kind of
(09:49):
stuff was being said around Kenny Pickett, who was I
believed to pick twenty two. And that's gotta be kind
of haunting Contullas fans to think, oh, we're just taking
a guy we kind of like again and twenties and
I don't know, but I do think twenty one makes
sense for Shor Sanders, and I do, and I'm skeptical
of the idea that someone's gonna make a big jump
(10:09):
to get any of the quarterbacks.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
I'm gonna ask you the question that kind of Dave
just threw out there about an hour ago.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
How can the.
Speaker 6 (10:16):
Pittsburgh Steelers pay DK Metcalf what they paid DK Metcalf
and have either Mason Rudolph or Skyler Thompson to him?
Speaker 5 (10:23):
I throw him to him.
Speaker 6 (10:23):
I mean, I know Aaron Rodgers is still out there,
but who knows what he's gonna do.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I don't know. I think they think that Aaron Rodgers
is eventually going to sign there. I do, And I
think they're gonna come out of this quarterback with the
draft part and me with a quarterback. But who that
quarterback is is an open question. I also would mention
Kirk Cousins as a possibility. I don't think he gets traded,
certainly not in the first round or early on. But
if they don't take watch the Steelers for Kirk Cousins.
(10:50):
If they don't take a quarterback in the first two rounds,
that to me, would be a very likely Kirk Cousins destination.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Yeah, what about George Pickens? Do you think he gets
moved this week?
Speaker 3 (11:00):
You know, when they did the DK trade, I thought
that might happen, just because I think their skills are
a little bit duplicative, and you know, Pickens obviously has
his ups and downs. By the way, I know X
fans used to complain about Metcalf at times. Oh boy,
George Higgins makes Metcalf look like a choir boy out there.
So uh yeah, I don't think he gets moved, but
(11:21):
cause just because there hasn't been enough smoke around it.
But it's definitely a possibility.
Speaker 6 (11:25):
The Seahawks got a visit from Will Johnson last week.
What do you think about a Johnson Witherspoon tandem.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
I really like Will Johnson. You know, he's got great size,
great lengths. I think he can play both man's zone.
Be a good skiing fit for Mike McDonald. Obviously there's
a Michigan.
Speaker 5 (11:46):
All right, we'll go ahead, let her go.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Uh we're not well for three on this, so we'll
let we'll let me the Times go. Try to get
that figured out for for next time we have her on.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
You're listening to the Home of the Husky and fist
the NFL Draft coverage in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft.
Now back to Suthian Dick probably brought to you by
Emerald Queen Casino on Sports Radio ninety three point three
KJR FM.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
You think when I text somebody and say hey, we're
calling in fifteen minutes, they know we're calling from the
studio line and not my cell phone.
Speaker 5 (12:21):
Yeah, well depends on who.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Because you'd be shocked by the way at how many
people have done that to me over the years. I'm
really kind of on a little bit of a pet
peeve thing right now with these cell phones in radio, Well,
you were kind of in a bad move when you
sat down. No, I'm gonna I was in a great
mood and then I got pissed off. But now, really,
I've been in a fine movie the entire show, and
the cell phone things pisses me off and it should
piss you off too. It's twenty twenty five for crying
(12:44):
out loud, and we can't find a freaking cell phone
that works for the radio show. So I mean I've
text people before, Hey, I'm calling you in fifteen, and
then the guy or gal won't answer the phone. It's
not yourself, Like what happened? Well, I was waiting for
your call. I'm like, dude, we called you from the studio.
Speaker 5 (12:59):
Oh my god, I think we should.
Speaker 7 (13:03):
I agree, Dick, I think you think we should explore
the topic of Safie's mood today.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Do you ever feel like you're surrounded by morons? I
do you ever have that reaction?
Speaker 6 (13:10):
I do make sure when I text people, I say
we will be calling you from the.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
Studient, from the studio. I always say that on text.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Well, you know what, certain things you don't think you
have to do, but I guess you did, right. I'm
calling you from the studio line. I'm not calling you
from my cell phone. I'm not doing a college radio
or a high school Well some people think it's a
high school radio show, but we actually do have a studio.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
With a line, and then we will call you from
not my cell phone.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
So this is like softy bitch Fest twenty twenty five,
and I'm done.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
We started across on its irritating a piss out of me.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Man.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
How about those Mariners? All right? That make you feel better?
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Right?
Speaker 5 (13:44):
Lisa Marin's at six and fourteen.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Yeah, so Rowdy Teles has like earned a stay of
execution right for a little bit here. My god, I
was waiting for that guy to do something. You can
thank me because I ripped his ass on social media
like a week ago, and then he just all of
a sudden caught fire. Maybe it's got something to do
with the Mariners going on the road. I don't know,
but so far he's got a nine to twenty three
ops on the road, four to twenty eight at home,
(14:08):
three home runs on the road, one at home, seven
ribbies on the road, four at home, six fifty slug
in versus two to eighty.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
You tell me you think this guy likes playing away
from T Mobile Park.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
Gee, let me guess.
Speaker 6 (14:19):
Well he's still I mean, even with the three home
runs in seven RBIs in last three games, he still
has an OPS six forty nine.
Speaker 5 (14:25):
Yeah, which is it's not very good. I think.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
I think that's where you're gonna get from H Hitters Park.
Good matchup he can be. I agree with the Mollywop
guys today, in an ideal situation, just plays on the road,
Rowdy Well, an ideal situation. Rowdy t Lez is a
guy sitting there on the bench in the late innings
when a right handed flame thrower comes up, and you
(14:50):
just get him in there to try to jack him.
Who is the da Holy So he's djly daily in
vogel Bah, Yeah, it's exactly.
Speaker 5 (14:56):
Who he is.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Or put a candy bar in his back pocket. Let
him walk out there with Although.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
Defensively, even though he can't move right, he can't move,
he's picked some nice balls out of the earth though.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
Yeah, he's a three foot radius of his body. That's true.
He's not gonna make it for him.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Yeah, no, I mean, look, I mean he's fine. Defensively,
he's a first basement. It's not a premium defensive position,
I get that, but it is a premium offensive position.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Right at first base.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
I mean, what serious baseball team has a first baseman
that can't hit right. I mean there's a reason why
the guy was well, that's true, that's why we're not serious.
The there's a reason why the guy was a free
agent for six months and nobody wanted him. So look,
he's he's earned a little bit of a stay here
of criticism. Maybe going to Fenway Park is going to
(15:42):
be a great thing for him, and a murder it
in Boston. I don't know what his lifetime numbers are
at Fenway, but if you can't hit a Fenway, you
can't hit anywhere, right, I mean I would I would
hope Dick that his lifetime numbers at Fenway Park are
pretty decent. So good for him for having a good week.
Cal Rowley had a phenomenal week. Dylan Moore had a
phenomenal week. Uh, Julio Rodriguez did not have a phenomenal week.
And I'm all, I am now sensing and I noticed this,
(16:07):
you know where I first noticed this, at least the
current iteration of it, because I know that a lot
of people have been busting Julio's balls for a while.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
Are you looking for that? Can I just give you
the stat here? It won't make it feel good.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
What's the status ROUDI at Fenway? Marin her first basement
through the year? Oh they suck.
Speaker 6 (16:22):
I know the last the last five war guy first
base for the Marrions.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
Want to guess who was Paul Soreno, Tino Martinez, John
John Olarude twenty three years ago?
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Terrible, that's so terrible, terrible, I mean it's again and
they haven't made the playoffs, so they've only been at
one time since then. I saw a tweet from your
buddy Mark James.
Speaker 5 (16:42):
Buddy Mark James. Okay, your pal, Mark James. I know
you're very close with Mark James. I like Mark James.
I think is Bron James is ridiculous. I like Mark.
He hates Julio Rodriguez. I think more than he hates Lebron. Really,
he had a guy. Where is this tweet? I don't
know where it is.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
The guy tweets more than I do for crying out
loud where he's said something about Julio just being terrible
and blah blah blah and yaka yak, and I don't
know where it is.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
I gotta look back and find it. Okay, are people
getting Are people? My point is this?
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Are people starting to grow a little bit impatient with
Julio Rodriguez?
Speaker 7 (17:18):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Are you sensing that there is this ground swell from
the fan base. Maybe it's not loud yet, but there's
a little bit of a growing chorus of impatience starting
to grow. Oh, here it is three days ago another
air quote quote epic performance, and he's being sarcastic by
the biggest star in Seattle, Julio Rodriguez today with another
(17:40):
zero hit game, batting average down to one seventy nine. Clap, clap, clap,
says Mark James three three days ago. Is there starting
to become a little bit of a ground swell, guys
of impatience for Julio Rodrigo.
Speaker 6 (17:52):
I think so his war has gone down every single
season he's played.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
Yeah, that's not a good trend.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
You would think his six worst, he's twenty twenty two,
You're like, hey, this guy's gonna be an eight to
nine war guy.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
By the time, it's all said, no, absolutely.
Speaker 6 (18:06):
And instead he's gone six five point three, four point three,
and he's on pace for under four right now in
this season.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
So, and I noticed it when.
Speaker 6 (18:15):
I tweeted something about Cal Rawley a couple a couple
of days ago. I had that tweet where I talked
to my dad and I was like, hey, Dad, you
see that Cal had had two jacks today and he
said best best player on the team, best catcher in baseball.
And I tweeted that out and people it was a
love fest for Cal in response, but it was also like, yes,
he's a heck of a lot better than Julio. So
they're like, all they used a tweet about Cal to
(18:39):
rip on Julio. So yes, I do think that there
is an Alco And for me, how I'm handling it
is I think Julio is just a good baseball player
with the potential to be great. But I'm just gonna
expect them to be good, and I'm gonna expect them
to be very good once July and August come because
that's usually when he's very good because he actually pays
(19:00):
over the next couple of action.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
How about you? What's your take on this?
Speaker 7 (19:03):
I'm not ready to yet lose my cool, but like
I would say that it's sort of like if this
is a teetertotter. I'm like, I'm creeping towards the other side,
and I'm creeping a lot faster than I'm comfortable with,
because like there's a certain point where like how far
do we go before we're saying that this? I mean,
we had the text during testimonials, right, is this just
an average player? Like I none of us believe he's
(19:25):
an average player, but like, but, but, but we are
creeping towards the side of saying, boy was he Is
he really the star we thought he was gonna be?
Speaker 5 (19:33):
M m well.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Mark put another tweet out the next day, Julio with
a bunch of zero strikes out again. Water is wet,
snow is white, and grass is green, and Rodwega strikes
out against. So maybe the new guy, the f a
new guy is leading the chorus to to hammer this
guy to death. I don't know, man, I mean, I
I agree with everything you guys are saying that there
(19:55):
it's it's hard to ignore it. There certainly is a
little bit of a drum beat a frustration going on
with Julio Rodriguez, and there should be. I mean, he's
he's your highest paid offensive player. He's the biggest commitment
financially of the team has ever made. Right, He's locked
in for a long time, so he goes. The Mariners
offense usually goes. But in that game that Mark's talking
(20:16):
about on April nineteenth, they won eight to four in
ten innings and really got to the Blue Jays bullpen.
So I mean, as long as they're winning games, it's
it's kind of okay to not really get after him
too much. But remember last year when they were losing
and he wasn't hitting in the clutch. He was getting
destroyed by a lot of people, even people talking about
setting him down at triple A Takoma, which would have
(20:38):
been ridiculous. So it's absolutely something to keep an eye
on man, no question, No, we're gonna break Paul Detino,
Wfan Giants reporter, Who do the Giants want the Browns
to take at number three or number two? Sorry, we'll
talk to Paul next On ninety three to three kJ ARFL.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
You're listening to the Home of the Husky Ncle's Vet.
It's the NFL Draft coverage in the twenty twenty five
NFL Draft. Now back to Suthian Dick, proudly brought to
you by Emerald Queen Casino on Sports Radio ninety three
point three kjr FM.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
All right, we are back here on a Monday night
from the Emerald Queen Casino sportsbook.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
It's a giant game.
Speaker 5 (21:19):
I love using that drop.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
I feel like we should give missus Datino a couple
of bucks every time we play that.
Speaker 5 (21:24):
By the way, because her husband is not a giant.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Game is it's a giant game.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
He's with us on the radio from Wfan Giants reporter
Pauli Datino, Paul.
Speaker 5 (21:35):
How are you man?
Speaker 4 (21:37):
I'm doing well, softy haws.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
It going out there good.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
So this is the highest the Giants have drafted since
they took Saquon Barkley number two in twenty eighteen, and
that worked out pretty good. The question is who do
the Giant fans and Giant front office personnel want the
Browns to take at number two or do they really care?
Speaker 5 (21:59):
Either way?
Speaker 4 (22:02):
You are very asked a two headed question because there's
still a segment of the Giants fandom that is insisting
they take a quarterback at number three, and it doesn't
matter who the heck it is. They all read that
Shador Sanders is the number two quarterback in this draft,
and so there is a segment of the fan base
(22:25):
that is demanding that it's a Chador Sanders or they
will want to burn down the facility. Wow, these people
don't make any sense to me. I have no idea
what is in their morning cereal, But that's what this
segment is talking about. There's another segment of the fan
base that is like, okay, we get it. Carter and
(22:47):
Hunter are the two best defensive players in the draft.
They're blue Chippers. Whichever one Cleveland takes, the Giants will
get the other one, and those people seem to be
okay with that. But then it seemed to trade back
up into the bottom of the first round so they
can still take a quarterback. Me I'm of the opinion
(23:09):
that they don't have to do that at all. I
would be fine if they don't take a quarterback in
this draft and they just go after the best player
available in each and every round. They have five picks
in the first one oh five.
Speaker 6 (23:23):
You know, how valuable do you think the third pick
is if somebody wants to trade up to them, Because
you know, there's a lot of people who think there
are only three stars in this draft, So if you
have one of those first three picks, may maybe that's
your amo to potentially move down.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
Do you think the Giants would do that?
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Well, I know they've been taking phone calls, there's no question.
Joe Shane even admitted to the fact that they've been
getting phone calls. But here's the problem when you try
to put a value on the number three pick. First
of all, we don't know the specifics of the medicals
on Abdul Carter's foot. Now we all assume that Cleveland's
(24:03):
taking Travis Hunter. Did they take him in your draft?
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Okay, So that means Carter is there for the Giants
at three if he is healthy. And the Giants medical staff,
which is ultra conservative and in many years they actually
cross guys off the board and eliminate them from contention.
If they think that Carter's foot's the problem and eliminate
(24:30):
Afteruel Carter, that becomes a very difficult problem for them
because I don't believe the Giants' staff is all in
on Shador Sanders. Therefore they should not take him. If
you take Carter off the board, the next best player,
in my opinion, and I think it's pretty strong, would
(24:53):
be Mason Graham, the defensive tackle out of Michigan. However,
the defensive tackle draft is so that I don't think
they want to take a defensive tackle at number three.
So this is the predicament you have if you try
to put a value on that third spot. What is
Carter's injury status? The other problem with this and you said, hey,
(25:16):
would people want to come up and go get the three? Well,
only if you really believe that Carter's okay. But if
he is, then the Giants are going to take them.
And if you really think that you want to go
up to number three to get your Dorsanders, well that
be my guest. Why don't you just overpay and get
the Giants a whole shopping lot code of you know,
(25:38):
load of picks, because I can't see any team in
their right mind would want to do that.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Well, the one thing the Giants should be doing then
is spreading the word to the entire world that Carter's
foot is just fine, even if they don't think it's fine, right,
and have some sucker move up and give them what
they're looking for at number three. But Patatina, with us
on the air, is that what you think they'll do? Honestly,
when it's all said and done, Travis Hunter goes to
(26:07):
the Browns at two and just let's not make this complicated,
Abdol Carter is a Giant number three.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
Yeah, that seems to be the way it's going to go.
And Softy, I love what you said. We all know
that general managers would lie to their mother's face during
this time of the calendar. That's just the way it
has to be. And mom has to excuse them. She's
got no choice, But I will tell you this. Joe
(26:33):
Shane was asked in his pre draft presser just the
other day about Abuel carter'spont and said, Okay, I'm talking
to my medical staff tomorrow to get the lowdown on
all these guys who needed medical reachects. But as far
as I know, you know, he just came to visit
the Giants the other day. He said, I don't think
the foot would be an impediment or a barrier for
(26:53):
us to take him. But as you just said a
moment ago, if you're a GM in that spot, I
certainly want people to think that Carter's foot is okay.
Speaker 6 (27:03):
Well, Paul, you couldn't have two quarterbacks with differing personalities
like you have with Russell Wilson and Jamis Winston. Is
there going to be a legitimate quarterback competition or is
it just flat out Russell's is the starter period, end
of story, and Jamis is the backup.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
From the very second that Jameis Winston signed, I knew
he was here as the backup. There were people in
New York panicking thinking that Winston was signed to be
the starter or would compete, and that was never the plan.
It was always that the Giants were going to go
after two veterans, one guy to be a starter, the
other got to be a backup. And when Russell Wilson
(27:40):
came to visit the Giants earlier, they actually offered him
a deal. Joe Shane after everything was over, admitted to
everybody that they had had Wilson in the building. They
had a full day of interviews with them. They liked them,
They offered them a package, and it took them eleven
days to get that negotiation done. They were not in
(28:03):
on Aaron Rodgers. They weren't waiting on Aaron Rodgers. Despite
what the rest of the New York media had to
say about it, It was all about trying to negotiate
a deal with Wilson, who obviously had a much higher
opinion of his value than the deal he finally settled for.
Speaker 5 (28:19):
Well, I gotta get you.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
We got a ton of Russell Wilson drops that you
could use on your podcast and your show out there, so.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
All I'll email all these Yeah, I'll get these to you.
It's un limited. Welcome to my Happy Place? Are the Giants?
Before you go?
Speaker 2 (28:37):
And you mentioned Joe Shane, the GM and He did
say that he would be willing to play Travis Hunter
both ways if he felt a number three.
Speaker 5 (28:44):
Is that correct, by the way, we're just real quick.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
Yeah, he said, you could never doubt this guy because
his opinion is what do you call it? Talent is
off the charts right.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
So are the Giants looking to build around Russell Wilson
right now? Or do they look at Russell Wilson as
kind of a short term bridge too? Whoever the next
great quarterback is and hey we're looking two three years
down the road here.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
Yeah, I think they look at Wilson as a short
term bridge. He got a one year deal. He's gonna
be thirty seven by mid season. Now, he's not gonna
be fifty seven. Let me make that clear. He's only
gonna be thirty seven. And he did play pretty well
for Pittsburgh last season. I think the Giants believe that, Okay,
you get them for the one year, you see how
(29:32):
it goes. If things go well and they're happy with him,
who knows, maybe that we sign him for another year.
But he is not looked at as a long term solution.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
Yeah, Russell Wilson's gonna be thirty seven years old. This
year old man. That is unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
I still remember that picture on Draft DA Remember Ashton
in the corner, remember that. Yeah, and here we are
and he's gonna be thirty fricking seven. All right, paul
I get those drops to.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Him expensive chair two.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
First of all, they're on the way back. Hey you're
the man. Hey tell the wife, you said.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
On the already blessed us with his positive attitude. Everything
is sunshine with Russell Wilson. I'll tell you that.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Yeah, listen when you're when you're one and six, that's
gonna get annoying real quick.
Speaker 5 (30:11):
By the way, all right man, good stuff. We'll talk soon, buddy.
Thanks pal.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
All right, Paula Tino w f A n with us
on the radio show thirty seven years old.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
Hat A sent him the Easter weekend believable. That might
be my favorite one. Uh well it was Easter weekend.
We're gonna break
