Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for our weekly conversation with college football analyst
Petros Papa Nakas.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Not that I'm a smart guy, I'm stupid.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Brought to you by Sweet James Accident Attorneys forty. If
you're hurting an accident, called Sweet James right away at
eight hundred, five hundred and fifty two hundred. Sweet James
will be sweet to you, but tough on insurance companies
that will bully you.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
I don't know bu.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Now with Petros Peer's Dave Softy Muller.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Alrighty, boys and girls, here we go live from Jimmy's
on First hanging out across the street from T Mobile Park.
It is absolutely our pleasure, our honor. Hashtag blessed is
the kids like to say on X to welcome in
one of the premier voices and the sports talk business
in America, one of the most sought after guests. This

(00:55):
industry has to offer. One damn fine American, one damn
fine Greek America. And the husband of the Year or
the father of the Month. And my friend Petros Papadocus
brought to you bomb the one and all the Sweet James,
the dense beard of justice. He can come through for you.
You know, if you've ever been in a car accident
or motorcycle accident, or maybe you've been bitten by a dog,

(01:16):
it's very hard to trust the insurance company. That's why
you need legal representation. That's why you need Sweet James.
So give him a call at eight hundred and nine million.
That's eight hundred nine zero zeros hero zero zero zero.
So you're a guy that likes to collect action figures
things like that, well, I know where this is going.

(01:38):
And uh yeah, I mean to a certain degree. Yes,
I do enjoy some figurines. I'm with you, by the way,
some are still in the box as you know. But
I do not have any interest in the Lebron James
Barbie Doll. Why not, don't want it. I don't own

(01:58):
any Barbies. And if I was, that was not That's
not gonna be the first the Lebron James Barbie Doll
Can Ambassador Ken Bassador, not a god Canbassador. They made
a Venus Williams a long time ago. And I think
a soccer player Mary Fowler, if that's strikes, I don't

(02:19):
know who that is. Australian soccer player. Those are the
only two athletes that they've done other than now. Lebron
James has a and he's wearing a hound's tooth pair
of pants like Bear Bryant right, got a pair of
blue shoes on. He's wearing a letterman's jacket. It says

(02:44):
just a kid from Akron on the back of the
letterman jacket.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
What is he doing? Man?

Speaker 2 (02:48):
He has a merse, a man purse on, you know,
like over the shoulder merse, which a lot of men
are wearing these days, Like.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Is that gallifanakison hangover immrse.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
And then he's got a hat with a crown on it,
just to make sure you know that he is the
king of basketball. And he's got a full head of hair,
which is a damn lie. And he's got like a
bushy feyroh beard and from far away, when you first

(03:21):
look at it, it kind of looks like the sheen
on the beard makes it salt and pepper, But that
is just the sheen on the plastic like beard oil
it is it is. He does not have a gray
speckled beard. And he's oh, he's got a pair of
sunglasses that you can put on him as an accessory

(03:45):
that he's holding in his hands.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Who would buy this? Who would buy this?

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Well, there's a total market. There's even a name for them.
Lebron sexuals would buy this.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Wow, I didn't realize that was a thing.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Well, yeah, it's a total thing, aren't you ever? On
X the Lebron.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Sectional not not that section.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
In fact, there are some very out in the open,
out uncloseted Lebron sexuals right in the media. That Nick Right,
guy that looks like squid word Nick Right from CNN. No,
the one on uh you know the one on FS
one or whatever. Oh yeah, yeah that guy. Yeah, yeah,
nice guy like ironed hair. He looks not pimp.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Who is the guy that used to do with the
show on CNN? Not Nick Right?

Speaker 2 (04:32):
What the hell was his name way back in the day,
like the old sports show on CNN, John Fricky? No,
but Nick Right? I know you're talking to Barry Lebron
formerly known as Barry Diamond. What the hell was the
name of that damn show? God darn it, he used
to air all the CNN. It was Fred Hickman and
somebody else who did the show with Fred Hickman. I
have no idea, Softy, Come on, I'm sorry, go ahead, continue, Well,

(04:58):
I just it's uh, Nick Charles, Nick Charles, there you go.
Doesn't do anything for me, there either nothing. But I'm
sure that many of your listeners it's seventy five dollars
for the Lebron thing, and it's it's three hundred right
now in some eBay world. Wow, So you two can
get a Lebron action figure and have a great time.

(05:19):
I mean I have action figures, yeah, and Lebron's got
a lot of fans, you know. I have action figures
of some you know, people would consider relatively obscure things,
and Lebron James is not obscure in the least. So
maybe there's a market for this. I don't think it's
little girls. And of course, you know, the first thing
you do when you get an action figure, you know

(05:41):
that has real pants like a Barbie, is you pull
the pants down and see what's popping. But I'm sure
the action figures it's normally the same thing. Yeah. I
think that he's got.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
You know, just in the same factory spandex on or something.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah. Yeah, Well, I'm just disappointed to know that you're
not going to be adding the uh what do they
call it Kenbassador Lebron, Well, you know that I barbie
all to your collection and it looks like the flood's
coming in on his on his legs. You know those
real high riding pants. What would what would Fletcher do
if you bought one of these for his birthday? Or
he probably well he laughed. I mean he he likes

(06:18):
Lebron or likes some more than I do. So he
was not the Lebron shoes because no one wanted him
and they were on sale. He's not taken after his
pop stands where you're telling me, no, he's more of
a Laker fan. He doesn't really care. He just wants
some play video games. Yeah, well, I thought that was
hilarious when I saw that come out today, I figured
you would ask me about it. I talked about it yesterday.

(06:39):
That's how on top of the Lebron sexual game, I am. Well,
I was talking to your buddy Hu Millan about this
and he made a great point. He's like, and you've
already got you know, hundreds of millions. I mean, is
he a billionaire? He's not a billionaire, is he Lebron?
I probably is he a billionaire? Million company lost a
lot of money but you know that they put this
behind the Lebron James Foundation. So they said that a

(07:01):
lot of the money of this is going to go
to his school in Akron, where the test scores are
incredibly low?

Speaker 4 (07:07):
Are they really?

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yes? I believe so.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
Kids don't do well at his school.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
I don't think that it is a school for kids
that read good. As they said in Sulander, what is
this a school for ants?

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Come on, man? But once they leave the school they
read good?

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Oh of course, yeah, right, without a doubt. I just
have low they have notoriously low test scores. It's not
a story I'm making up. Look it up.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Yeah, well, I'm.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Sure when they show up there, no, no, no, just
look it up. Well, I gotta tell you, how were
kids supposed to learn to read? I can't even get
through the door.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
I don't don't.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
I didn't retain anything from high school at all, nothing whatsoever.
I've learned more on Twitter and social media than I
ever didn't not even like to kill a mockingbird or
piece with finny or red assphalt. I noticed that I
I realized after I graduated high school that I have
a severe case of attention deficit disorder. Yes, whether I

(08:14):
didn't learn a damn thing because I wasn't paying attention. Well,
don't you wish that we grew up in a different
time so they would diagnose us and drug us up
like zombies?

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Absolutely? Are you kidding me?

Speaker 2 (08:23):
I would have loved to have what the hell was
rowing me? Everyone just called me a spaz. Now I
know there was something really going on there. I'm sure
you had the same problem. Yes, Softy, I had the
same problem. But do you really need to walk down
memory lane? Is that what we're really here for?

Speaker 4 (08:39):
Well? What else are we here for?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
The Mariners stink we got You're the one that's at
a bar cracking seasons over?

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Spring football is going on.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
We're gonna be out at you dubb tomorrow, by the way,
with Demid Williams, who's going to be in New York
City for the Heisman Trophy. You can book that baby,
best quarterback in the Big Ten. You ever see this
guy play? Do you watch your sons year? Forgive me
if I don't book that baby here in April for
your unproven quarterback to go to the Heisman ceremony. Tore

(09:12):
up Louisville's ass and the sun ball. So did Miller
Moss and Miller Moss tore up Louisville's ass in the
Holiday Bowl last year. And what happened to Miller Moss
about halfway through the season at USC, Well, he transferred, right,
He's gone exactly right. They found another guy, Jade in
my ava, Well maybe Miller, maybe Demando transfer when Jed

(09:34):
Fish is the next head coach at South Carolina. Tearing
up I'm just saying, tearing up the the Louisville Cardinals,
which is a mascot that has teeth, a bird with teeth,
which I've always appreciated, predator, But tearing up the Louisville
Cardinals does not necessarily mean you know you're going to
the Heisman in New York. But people said the same

(09:56):
thing about Miller Moss last year, and they talked about
how Team Martin won the championship after Peyton Manning was
gone and all that. But I don't think that's gonna
happen with your guy. But you know, I hope he
has a great year, and I hope Fish has a
great time coaching.

Speaker 4 (10:13):
The I think he's think I think he's legit. Though,
this kid man I got, I got to feel about it.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
I thought the kid from Morregon State and went to
Michigan State was legit. And I know they had some
serious offensive line problems, but maturity level, he wasn't ready,
you know Chiles Aiden Chiles right, And and that kid
ran dj On of Oregon State. He he was the
top transfer quarterback and Michigan State landed him. And it

(10:43):
might have created some unrealistic expectations for Jonathan Smith and
East Lansing in his first year with a lot of
coaches that you and I know and respect. But yeah,
I mean I thought that guy was going to be awesome,
you know, and he regressed as the year went on.
I always wonder, Petros, if Jonathan Smith had waited until
after Calen de Boor left to go to Alabama, he'd

(11:04):
be your coach?

Speaker 4 (11:05):
Would he be the Husky coach right now?

Speaker 2 (11:07):
You know? He absolutely would be. Yeah, he absolutely would be.
But you have to give Michigan State credit. You know,
they they were on it early. They knew they were
gonna have a new coach because their coach was caught
on the you know, on the phone.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
So y'all are giving me a lot of edits right now.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
That's nothing, not even an ad dude, you guys are
such weedies. Way, don't blame me, man, I just work here.
I'd let it all go if.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
It were up to me. Are you kidding me?

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Isn't that what happened?

Speaker 4 (11:47):
Brother? That dumb ass mel Tucker?

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Dude, if you're gonna do that, and look, do whatever
you gotta do. I'm not one to pass judgment on anybody,
as I'm sure you agree. You want you want to
do that type of thing, than do that type of
thing whatever makes whatever gets you going. But you're gonna
do it with the most high profile rape survivor that
the sports world.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Maybe has ever seen, in Brenda Tracy.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
I don't I just mean, what the hell, dude? Whatever
had happened, it opened the door for Michigan State to
go find it, find his nature.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Did they ever pay him off? Do we know?

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Do they have to pay him the seventy five because
don't they have like a rich alumber. I'm sure it's
still in the guy or whatever. I'm sure it's still
it's still in the cards or in the courts or
or whatever, just like everything else. But well, yes, I
think Jonathan Smith would have been the coach at Washington,
and I think that he would probably be better off,
as staff would probably be better off, and I think

(12:46):
you guys would probably be better off.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
I don't know about that.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
I don't know either. We'll see you at the High
I don't know yet in New York City.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
Hell yeah you will, baby, you take.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
The next stop to Columbia, South Carolina. How about uh,
we you know we got we got all these mock drafts.
I know you're a big mock draft guy. We have
our annual mock draft two weeks from today. Well, you
got a new draft every day. I mean, so many
people downloaded.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
How could I not you got you got two weeks
from today.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
You'll have the day off because we're gonna have our
annual Mother Millen mock Draft twenty six years in a row,
where we invite listeners to come down and make picks
and we award prizes. And this year's prize is one
thousand dollars voucher to Delta Airlines.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
That's pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
That's not the most tedious show of the year at all.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
Why would you say that.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
I don't know. I'm just saying it's not. But you're
you're yeah, I can it's you're dripping with sarcasts I
don't know. You can't tell if I'm being sarcastic, totally tells. Look,
I can hear you breathe it. I don't know, you
cannot and I can. I don't think it's tedious at all.
You know what up yours man? We put a lot
of effort and you get a day off. Thanks, you

(13:57):
get the You know I'm gonna make you do the
show on Tuesday that i'd be happy to.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
How's that?

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Ask me who I would pick.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
Taking shots at our mock draft?

Speaker 1 (14:05):
You?

Speaker 4 (14:06):
Oh wow, Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Hurt my feelings many Well, why don't you call mel
Tucker with that dirty mount? A lot of people are wondering, though,
if Schador's there at eighteen.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
I mean you know Chador, right, you covered Schador a
little bit.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
I know Jeff frankcoor uh the pitcher, he's an outfielder.
Would you be nervous would you? Yeah, the baseball player?
Would you be nervous about draftings Shador Sanders? Yeah, for
a few reasons.

Speaker 4 (14:39):
Why because of Dion?

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Well yeah, you're gonna have to deal with that and
then the whole media thing around it. But I mean
he's a football player. What's a big deal. A lot
of football players are coffee. I don't really know what
kind of leadership he displayed or lack thereof. You seem
like a pretty good quarterback to me. I don't think
he's as athletic as far as running around and getting
away from people as as you might need to be

(15:04):
as that style of quarterback in the modern NFL. I mean,
he's a drop back guy. They had a terrible old line,
so he was off his spot a lot. That might
have something to do with with some of that evaluation.
Millan said, his sack tape is the worst sack tape
has ever seen, like ever. That's running into sacks and

(15:26):
spitting around and doing all kinds of wacky stuff. And yeah,
and you see that line for that, right, I Mean
we saw that, uh when uh with Caleb Williams a
lot too, right, especially when things started to go bad
at USC and every once in a while he'd make
a spectacular play. But as we all know, it's nothing
really to build your offense around. But I mean, if

(15:48):
you draft Shador, you're not going to build your offense
around him running around, right, I mean you're going to
build your offense in around timing and the way most
offenses are built. So he's the gross style quarterback is nah? Yeah,
And I think he is a pro quarterback. I mean,
there's no doubt that he proved that he should be drafted.

(16:10):
But as far as being the best quarterback in the draft,
or one of the best quarterbacks we've seen in the
draft in a long time, I don't think he's that. Well.
I don't think anybody in this draft is that. The
funny thing is is that Cougar fan? Why are you
trying to make me talk about it? Then? I just
want to get your analysis. Sorry, I want to get
your analysis of the guy. I mean, you're a you

(16:31):
know how many people bitch at me about this segment, like, God,
you got a college football guy on all you do
is play grab as well, what's the problem? That's all
I really want to do. You really want to talk
about college football? I mean no, I would love to
talk about who really sucks? Is that Shiloh? He's probably
not even going to get drafted.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
Now, what's he up to? Now? Has he done at Colorado?

Speaker 2 (16:51):
Yeah, Shiloh's in the draft. Oh, but he's not going
to be drafted.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
You don't think so?

Speaker 2 (16:55):
And he's bankrupt and they're trying to reap is Mercedes.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
You like that, don't you?

Speaker 2 (17:02):
No, I don't care. I'm just reporting the news, just
like the Lebron thing. I don't love the Lebron Barney doll.
But I had all the information for you, didn't I.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
You did, You did, and I knew that you would.
I knew that you would.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
It's like a it's like a Stockholm syndrome thing with
you man and Lebron. James, Well, it really is. If
he wasn't in LA, I wouldn't care. I think I
think secretly you actually have a strong affinity for Lebron,
but you put on this ruse for so long that
you just cannot give it up.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
You could not be more wrong. I think you respect
the man.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
Privately, absolutely not as an athlete. Sure, all right, you
gotta go, all right, softy, Well, have a great night.
Come back next week and then take take the take
mock Draft day. I sure will, and tell mal I said, hello,
be here to download the mock draft as well. When

(17:50):
it's over. You might learn something, Pal, I will. I'll
go over in a couple of times.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
I'll see you.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
I'll comb the desert all right, Petros Papadacus with us.
We're gonna break. We got a lot more to get to,
including Gary Kubiak. How about that father of Cube. That's right, man,
Porker Lewis can't lose. We want some real analysis. We're
gonna get Gary Kubiak on the air. Former Super Bowl
winning head coach with Denver, father of Clint, the current

(18:15):
Seahawk offensive coordinator. What's his son gonna bring to the table.
We'll find out with Gary, Gary, what movie Gary.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
You said you were combing your hair?

Speaker 2 (18:28):
What movie?

Speaker 4 (18:29):
Oh, come on, you know the answer.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
Weird Science.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
There you go. All right, we'll see you in a week.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
On the telephone. That's a mel telephone. That's Melt Tucker
on the telephone. Shooted what we're gonna break, Gary Kubiak
and a joy Next ninety three to three KJRFM.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
You're listening to the Home of the Husky and Seattle's
vest NFL Draft coverage. Gim the twenty twenty five NFL Draft.
Now back to Suffian did proudly brought to you by
the Emerald Queen Casino on Sports Radio ninety three point
three kJ r FM.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
All right, we are back here at Jimmy is on first.
We'll get to the Mariner game reaction in a minute.
MS were down five to nothing. By the way, here
they got four of the A three in the ninth
and they beat the Astro seven to six on a
walk off walk night Randy E.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
Rose Arena.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
They had to get that win today, baby, So we'll
react to that coming up at four forty five. Larry
Stone joins at five o'clock tonight. But why don't you
go ahead and introduce our next guest.

Speaker 5 (19:28):
My friend, Well, here's a guy that when I was
with the Broncos. He came in as a young coach.
He was only two years older than me, but he
was the quarterback coach and the offensive coordinator. You could
tell early on this guy related to the players. He
had a brilliant offensive Mine and Dave. In twenty four seasons,
Gary Kubiak was an offensive coordinator or a head coach

(19:49):
in the NFL. In twelve of those twenty four he
had a top five offense. In eighteen of the twenty
four he had a top top ten offense. He knows
offense and now his son Clint is the OC for
the Seattle Seahawks. Coop's great to have you with us.
Thanks for joining us.

Speaker 6 (20:08):
Hey you how you doing? Hey as a connection? Okay,
I'm struggling hearing you. Guys, y'all hear me.

Speaker 5 (20:15):
Yeah, we can hear you. We can hear you. Fine,
we'll just power through it. I know your your astros.
You're down in the Houston area. Your astros just got
dumped by our Mariners. But uh, well, we'll save that
for the end of it. But Cooby, if you can
just kind of relate to the Seattle offense offense about
your son Clint now the offensive coordinator. How being the

(20:35):
son of you, you had a decade as a quarterback
in the NFL and then all those years as the
head coach, how do you think that impacted him in
terms of his coaching development?

Speaker 1 (20:47):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (20:48):
Guys, I'm really struggling here, and y'all I may need
to call back. Uh let me let me answer that.
I think I heard the question. Uh you know, I
mean he was a round ball his whole life. You,
I mean, just him and his brothers to see with
what I was doing, and you know, uh, you know,
my way of having my kids rill involved with what
I was doing. I came from the fact that coaching

(21:09):
kind of took you away from your family, you know,
so you were going quite a bit. And you know,
me getting my boys involved, having them be ball boys
or work in the locker room or be around you
guys as players, it was kind of a chance for
me to get to see them, you know, more than
than I was getting to see them. So they're always
around ball. I don't think you ever know which direction
your kids are going to go. You know, you got

(21:30):
to get them a good education and then let them
go out there and figure it out themselves. But he
loved playing. He was on the defensive side of the ball.
When he got going coaching, he jumped on the offensive
side of the ball because he was around me all
the time, watching what I did, watching me teach. And
he's been influenced by some really good coaches, I mean,
North Turner, Kingsbury, Uh, some of these guys that he's

(21:53):
been around. So you know, it's his turn. He's got
some good people around him. So I'm looking forward to
watching watching him plays this year.

Speaker 5 (22:01):
Super Bowl winning coach Gary Kubiak with us and Koob,
I'm gonna ask you about Clint's style, And I know
you're gonna say, like every offensive coordinator would say, Hey,
I want my offense. We want to be physical in
the running game, we want to be efficient in and
explosive in the past.

Speaker 6 (22:19):
I cannot Okay, yeah, yeah, let me call right back.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Now.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
That's on our end. Gary here, we're having some network
problems with our phone. It always works out like this,
right the one day you get a guy that Gary
Kubiak on the radio show and the freaking phone lines
don't work. So we're having some network issues. He's probably
gonna call back and think everything's okay, but it's not.
It's not on his end, it's on our end totally.
So we'll try and get a connection to re established.

(22:44):
But if we can't do it, we'll just reschedule Gary
and get them on later. But you know, just kind
of answer those questions that you had for Gary about
Clint kind of what you've seen from him so far.
And look, obviously we haven't seen him coach a game yet.
One of my concerns is the pieces he needs to
run his own offense, are they here now or does
he need to really overhaul this thing really starting with

(23:05):
the offensive line to make it match his scheme.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
Well, I think that if you go back to where
they cut their teeth, you know, with the wide zone
with Alex Gibbs on that stretch play. There's a certain
style the Broncos had. Remember it wasn't just Terrell Davis
that was leading the league. It was Orlandos, Gary and
Clinton Portus. I mean, they had like four straight guys

(23:29):
that led the league, and and so they were plug
and play, but they they had an outside zone scheme
where you had a bootleg and naked plays off of
that the play action, so you get the the defense
flowing laterally and and and that impacted you know, you
had the keeper game to keep people honest. But the

(23:52):
offensive line, as a general rule, you could say, hey,
we want a little bit more athletic guys. It's okay
if they're not as strong, but they gotta be smart
and they got to be able to move their hips.

Speaker 4 (24:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
Well, I just wonder this is Clint Kubiak the kind
of offensive coordinator that is going to be able to
make a difference just on his own with the pieces
the Seahawks have right now. Because look, i mean, I'm
sure Clint's a great guy. I'm sure he's a great
offensive coordinator. But this is now the third fourth guy
that we've had here in the last four or five years,

(24:26):
and all of them end up getting fired or they
end up leaving and taking off and going somewhere else,
including offensive line coaches. So what is it about Clint
Kubiak that we should look at to think, Okay, this
guy's gonna stop the bleeding?

Speaker 5 (24:38):
Yeah, well for right now. His dad just texted me,
I'm just hanging out if you all get it figured out.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
So yeah, Jackson, Jackson, why don't we just hold off
on that for now. We're obviously having a problem on
our end that we just, for some stupid reason can't
figure out. So we'll we'll rebook him Hugh later on
for the radio show. We'll plenty of time to get
him on. But tell Gary that we'll look up with
him again later, because it's not worse it if you
can't hear the questions. I mean, here are the questions.

(25:03):
It's kind of an important thing. Yeah, when you're doing
an interview, but what what is in you about this
guy that you think he's gonna stop the bleeding?

Speaker 5 (25:11):
Honestly, Well, I mean there's nobody who can just be
a complete panacea for everything. I mean, you're still going
to have to have some offensive line play, but you know,
I'll give you a couple of thoughts that are interesting.
And because we talked about the tight ends one of
our most recent discussions with Hey, the Michigan kid, you know,

(25:32):
and obviously you know you know Ty Warren Penn state
he's unlikely the last of eighteen. But but last year
in New Orleans, Uh, you had Clint Kobiak as the
offensive coordinator. That the number of plays where there were
two tight ends or more on the field, got it.

(25:54):
The Saints were forty seven point seven that was number
one in the NFL. That the Seahawks they were ranked
twenty fourth at twenty percent. So think about that twenty
percent of the time versus the Saints at forty eight
percent of time. Now three plus wide receivers, it made sense.

(26:17):
Remember when I've said the NFL is an eleven personnel league,
what does that mean? One running back, one tight end,
three receivers. The league is a an eleven personnel league.
And to that end, all teams the average was sixty
one point one percent of the personnel group was was
in eleven percent. The next closest was twenty two percent,

(26:40):
and and that was twelve personnel.

Speaker 7 (26:44):
That's one running back, two tight ends.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
And so when I say that the Saints were number
one in terms of two tight ends or more, now
you might push back and say, well, they had Chrystal
Lave and other injuries at the wide receiver position, so
maybe that's an aberration. That was one of the things
we're going to discuss with Gary. But three wide receivers
are more on the field. That made sense for Seattle

(27:09):
because they had three great receivers right, they had DK,
they had JSN, they had Tyler right and not great
tight ends. So Seattle in that regard three plus wide
receivers seventy seven point six percent of the time. That
was third in the NFL, whereas the Saints were thirty
eight thirty three point eight percent. That was thirty first

(27:30):
in the NFL. So there's a lot of differences just
in terms of the personnel and how you want to
do things. You know, in addition to the stretch that
we can talk.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
About, well let's do this too. Let's get a break.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
We will reconnect with Gary at some point and get
him rebooked for the radio show. Mariners got what was
no question the most important win of the year so far.
They were down five to nothing and they came back
and got to w we'll come back and chat about that.
We'll break a little early here, Jackson, give us more
time to react to the win. Larry Stone joins us
at five. Coming up on ninety three three KJRFM.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
Normally you'd have some texts here by the way, we
can check the text line later on today.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
Larry Stone joining us at five o'clock.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
Fumilon Is it for Dick, Fane and Hugh uh before
we continue the Seattle Mariners, Your Seattle Mariners, Jess Scott,
what so far might be could be the win of
the year.

Speaker 8 (28:46):
Hambard high horizing blast on a two shot hold on rightfield,
Facient Solano and Shivonia his way home.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
Hate scores hold on the second nase he has time
these game and the nineteen eight.

Speaker 8 (29:13):
Three to twos walking off with the walk.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
Our roads are right.

Speaker 8 (29:22):
Of the slim and a basins loaded walk in the
night and the Mariners winning seven to six.

Speaker 4 (29:30):
God, how about that man? How about that? I wish
I could.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
Have found the live odds during that game when the
Ms were down five nothing. Everything we made in the
stock market today when it went up a Gainjillian points,
I would have put it all on the.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
Mariners because I knew Hugh Millen.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
I believe nobody else believed besides me, not even that
guy over there fucking come back, not even They were
back from down five to nothing, but big thanks to
uh to root sportsman Hugh.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
To win, the Mariners had to have. They lose the game.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
They're five out behind the Rangers and guess where they're
going Friday, Texas to take on the Rangers in Texas.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
They had to get that win.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Julio with a two double down the right field line
ties it up.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
Randy E.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
Rose Arena gets the walk to win at the Grand
Slam and the eighth inning, uh Brian Abrahu had not
allowed an earn run all year until this game today,
and the Mariners torch him of the ninth and they
come back from five to nothing down and they win
the game seven sixs.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
How about that?

Speaker 5 (30:31):
Yeah, just clutch everything that they weren't yesterday they won today.
And you mentioned Julio's two double bases loaded bottom of
the ninth, so much discussion about him. Look, it looked
like a fastball. Look you, if you're a baseball fan,
you got to see this pitch because this thing was
at the very bottom of the strike zone, on the

(30:53):
very outside. In fact, I don't even think it was
a strike Dave. And he went down down at the
end of his barrel and uh and was able to
slice the ball, push it to right field and get
that double. Uh with the bases loaded. I mean, hell
of a piece of hitting, yep, to get that kind
that I mean that that is not a mistake. There's

(31:15):
no way that's a mistake. By that picture, like, I mean,
there's the bottom corner and Julio, uh, you know, reached
and went down to get it.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
Yeah, he's trying to keep the ball away from him. Obviously,
you're right, but I uh, look, I mean for me. Again,
I don't want to be dramatic. It's only April the ninth,
for God's sakes, But if you lose that game and
you're a you're a four to nine baseball team, and
you're five games out behind the Rangers heading to Texas
for three games and Arlington starting on Friday, where just
kind of feels like the Mariners have gone to die

(31:42):
as of late, that this really felt like a really
important game for them. And I'm sitting here doing the
show with you, and I'm looking up at Jimmy's watching
the game. They're down four nothing, down five to nothing,
and I'm thinking, Okay, here's what we're gonna talk about.
We're gonna talk about what a joke third base has become.
We're gonna talk about what a joke the first base
spot has become. We're gonna talk about how the Mariners
are actually okay and on base percentage but have no

(32:04):
balls whatsoever on the clutch and can't bring these guys home.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
And then boom, the eighth inning happened.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
Man, so rewrite how many writers over there totally blowing
up their freaking stories And it.

Speaker 4 (32:14):
Wasn't just Julio and it wasn't just a Rose Arena.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
I mean, you know, Dominic Solano, who's been kind of
criticized by a lot of people, Miles Master Bony say
that name, real slow by the way, who's been criticized
by a lot of people. Both had singles in the
ninth inning to get on base, and they scored JP
Crawford by the way, first and third, one out, has
a single that looked like it was gonna be an

(32:39):
out for Dominic Solano leaving the bag at third. They
overturned it with replay, so bases are loaded and Julio
then gets the two run double on an O two
count without replay. None of this happens tonight, and it
was the right call. And if you saw the replay
or not, Hugh on the tag on Solana but he
get beatn that tag, it was the right call.

Speaker 7 (32:58):
Well, all that just sounds like a lot of drama.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
And you know, I think, you know it's it is
the game of the year, and and you know, the
opening game was felt like the game of the year,
but that you know, that was the only game we
had at the time. But for a while that was
standing as as the most clutch and most dramatic win,
but certainly this would would take that over. And you know, look,
I don't know if it's a catalyst. This is a

(33:21):
three game series. The opening series was a four game
and they let me you can I just correct myself
that the Ranger series is here. I'm sorry, not in
not in Arlington.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
Apologies.

Speaker 5 (33:31):
Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah right right yeah, and uh
and so this is the first series win yet because
they tied the first one right to two.

Speaker 7 (33:39):
So I don't know if it's a catalyst.

Speaker 5 (33:42):
We've in the past, we've thought, Okay, this is going
to be it, this is the this is the dramatic
win that's gonna catapult him, and and uh, maybe it
will be, maybe it won't, but it sure is nice
to win this first series.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Well, you have Bryce Miller, Brian wu and Logan Gilbert
going Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And look, I mean, obviously
I don't want to be dramatic. You're still a five
and eight baseball team, for God's sakes, and you're tied
for last place.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
But if we're just.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
Gonna be a prisoner the moment, this was, this was
the kind of game that in previous years, let's face it.
The Mariners don't win very often, and maybe this will
be one of three or four when it's all said
and done that they get the entire season. But this
is a game that the Mariners, at least under Scott's
service and so far under Dan Wilson, had not found
a way to win. I'd go back and check and

(34:27):
see how many times they fell behind five nothing or
more and actually won the damn game.

Speaker 4 (34:32):
I guarantee it's not very many.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
I mean, first of all, that number is not going
to be high for any team in baseball, but the Mariners,
with how they've been struggling offensively, this is a game
that again, hopefully they can build on. There's no doubt
they still have a lot of issues. I mean, to me,
the third base position.

Speaker 4 (34:46):
You know. I went to the game for.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
About an hour, left the ballpark and came over to
Jimmy's here to do the show, and I'm thinking, my god,
these guys need a third basement. They need a real
third basement in the worst freaking way. And then I'm
watching rowdy freaking to let By the way, if your
name is gonna be rowdy, you better dann well be
a good player. If your name's rowdy because you're a
fifty hitter, I mean one fifty, I mean zero point

(35:09):
five to oh oh five oh, and your name is
freaking rowdy. Whatever his real name is, Bob Billy Jerry John,
just call him that. He ain't gonna be rowty until
he starts hitting the freaking baseball. But the first base
spot's a joke. The third base spot is a joke,
and they gotta fix that man. Victor Roe bless is out,
Ryan Blisses out. We said this yesterday. They cannot sit
on their ass and just rely on guys like Dominic

(35:32):
can Zone to get the job done and Leo Reeves
to get the job done.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
They gotta go out and do something.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
And if that's bringing up Ben Williamson to play third
base for you and move Polocko over to first, I'm
fine with that.

Speaker 4 (35:43):
Just do something.

Speaker 5 (35:45):
Yeah, at third base is it's not just the fielding
aspect that's been a trouble.

Speaker 7 (35:49):
It's the throwing part of it.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
It's terrible.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
You, I mean, Huey, Huey, think about all the great
third basement that we've had here. David Bell, I'm talking,
I'm talking defensively. David Bell Kyle Seeger Adrian Beltrie. Now
you got a guy who can't even get the ball
a first pace across the infield.

Speaker 7 (36:06):
Yeah, a Henny was Ye had a good gal over there.

Speaker 4 (36:10):
By the way, He's on paced for sixty eight bombs.
Did you know that? Hey, you hens is on pace
for sixty eight homers right now.

Speaker 7 (36:18):
Well, and it's not much better at the other corner either.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (36:21):
But you know, this isn't the time to talk about
their deficiencies. I mean I kind of basking. I'm just
kind of looking at Uh.

Speaker 7 (36:28):
So was it uh? Was it Rodriguez or excuse me, Castillo?
Two point zero?

Speaker 4 (36:33):
They got this correct, This was the knockoff.

Speaker 5 (36:37):
Yeah, so they they touched him for three in the second. Uh,
it looks like one in the third. So they you know,
they were just kind of a cruising the Astros for nothing.

Speaker 4 (36:47):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (36:48):
You know that's this would be.

Speaker 5 (36:49):
The the game that you would say, hell, we needed
George Kirby, Right, You're closing out the series and and
and it's the rubber game of the series. And this
is where the injury really hurts, right, because because you're
going two point zero, uh to try and win a series,
and yet somehow you know the bat, you know they only.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Had seven hits.

Speaker 5 (37:07):
Somehow they got they got seven runs, two for.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
Nine with runners in scoring position.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
But it's all that mattered, man, all that, man, hey, Hugh,
let's it's gotta break Larry Stone. Great day to have
him on, great timing to have Larry. He'll join us
next on ninety three three kJ R f M
