Where we go. We're here atJimmy's until seven o'clock tonight. Jackson's got
Jackson, you're doing the play byplay for the game. Are you doing
pre game as well? Or somebodyelse take that over for you. No,
our broadcast producer Keey is doing pregame. Okay, Jackson doesn't have
to do pregaming. He's the bigplay by player, said Kiwily. Like
from Ted Laso from Ted like thebartender from the Emeral Queen Keeley. I

(00:25):
mean I know two Kiley's, andone of them works at the Emeral Queen
Casino and the second one from TedLasso. So I guess this is the
third one now that we know. But Jackson's got the play by play tonight
and that's on the FM. Isthat right Jackson today? Yes? All
right? And Brian Schmetzer has alreadythreatened if they lose the game, Jackson
will never ever be allowed to touchthe pitch again at lumin Field ever ever
again. This could be the endof Jackson Feltz's broadcast career. So if

(00:48):
you want see somebody literally die onradio, tune in tonight. You know
it'd be a shame for a buddingcareer to just to be all right,
let's not go crazy, let's notexaggerate here. Good. But I'm not
sure if i'd say buddy, I'dsay he's kind of reached the apex.
To be honest with you. Anyway, tune into here, Jackson. It'll
be fun. It'll be fun.Mike Florio is going to join us coming
up at three ten in a fewminutes from now. We'll talk to some

(01:11):
NFL with him. The All StarGame last night. Look, man,
I mean I don't know. Imean, how much of the game did
you watch. I didn't watch hardlyany of it as a matter of I
didn't watch a second. I'll behonest with you, but I mean me
saying I didn't watch hardly any impliesI watched maybe a few winnings or I
didn't watch one second of the AllStar Game. Last night I got home
the All Star Game. I couldhave turned it on. I mean,

(01:34):
I flipped on the convention a littlebit. I watched that. I watched
reruns of Friends and Big Bang throughwith the wife. One of the deck
had a san Juan Seltzer, andby the time I was realizing the All
Star Game was even going on,it was over, so I was out.
Oh it's I was not a surprise. I mean, did you watch
any of it last night? Wehad it on in the studio when we're
doing the show, and I that'sall I saw, I will say at
the and by the time I leftthe studio, I forgot that the All

(01:59):
Star Game was on. I mean, that's what kind of importance the Major
League Baseball also game is. Andto be perfectly honest with you, Dave,
that's the way baseball is for meand a lot of people to other
than your regional interest. Yeah, sure, local interest. Yeah, I
mean it is just baseball has goneprobably by far more so than any other
sports, regional game fast from nationalgame to regional game, by far more

(02:23):
than any other sport in America.I think if your team is good and
you've got nine All Stars or eightwhatever it was, including lou like we
had, you know, back intwo thousand and one, you're probably a
lot more apt to watch. Butwhen you got two guys that you know
are likely not going to play atall in Munos and Logan Gilbert, I
think you're kind of out. AndI think some of the good teams that

(02:45):
Philly fans are probably loving all theguys they had, you know, the
Yankees and Baltimore, all that Clevelandblah blah blah. But for us,
I'm just so more more focused onobviously, what's gonna happen starting Friday against
the Astros. And I heard CrawfordChris Strawford and say that I think yesterday,
and I had to think about itfor a second. I kind of
want to do like a is thewriter? Is you wrong? You know?

(03:05):
Factor fiction? Yeah, you're nay. Whatever creative word. We used
to come up with a segment becauseI saw a guy tweet something I want
to talk about to today, andChris said that this is one of the
biggest series that the Mariners have everplayed, with the Astros coming up to
start in the second half of theyear. And look, obviously there's a
little hyperbole there for sure. Well, but they haven't had a lot of
big series in their franchise history. They're almost fifty years old. But all

(03:29):
those series in late September the lastthree years have all been really big,
bigger than chir But that's only threeyears out of fifty. I mean there's
not many. I mean, youcould take probably forty of the Mariners seasons
that they've had where there really wasn'tanything of significance at all during the season.
And the Mariners have a chance herewith the sweep of the Astros,

(03:49):
to go four games up on Houstonand really kind of separate themselves a little
bit. And I'll tell you whatthis reminds me. And I brought this
up a couple of times, whetherit was two thousand and five or seven,
whatever year it was, and wewere still doing games shows from Northwest
College for Seahawk training camp, becauseI remember, holme, you're walking by
and tell me to shut the hellup. They had a series with the
Angels, and I've referenced this beforewith you, where the Mariners pulled within

(04:12):
like a couple of games and theyplay the Angels and the Angels has beat
them to death for three or fourgames in a row, and they just
said, look, we don't carehow close you are, You're never ever
winning this division. And look, obviously still a lot of baseball left to
go starting Monday of next week. But I think the Mariners have a chance
to kind of make a statement. Can they do that, I don't think
so. Will they do that?I don't think so. I think the

(04:33):
Astros may have a better shot atmaking that statement right now than the Mariners
do. But Justin Hollander was ontoday and I heard a little bit of
cross talk with you and Chris talkingabout how difficult it's going to be to
add a bat, which is whatwe've been saying for weeks on this show.
This is the reality, I thinkChris asked you, is that an
excuse or is that reality that it'sgonna be hard to do that. I

(04:56):
think it's the reality that they've createdfor themselves because of how they've ignored the
free agent market. This is whatyou do when you put yourself in a
position where the best way to addtalent is to make a trade of the
deadline. You're competing with two thirdsof baseball. So it's an excuse,
but they've made this their reality, and I agree with it. It's gonna

(05:16):
be really hard to add I thinkthe guy that you want to see come
to Seattle, Dick, I thinkit's gonna be really hard to play.
I think it is. But ifyou want to win a World Series,
and if that's your goal, thenyou have to do it. You have
to do it now. I'm notsaying I'm getting Vladimir Guerrero here guarantees you
a World Series, but it guaranteesyou a much better offense going forward beyond,
of course, But I mean, have to do it. It's not

(05:39):
in your control. That's the problem. I could offer my entire minor league
system, and it may not beenough. I could offer my top ten
guys. You would look, couldcome to a price where it would be
enough. Well, yeah, butsomebody else may be you again, I
mean, you want to offer yourtop twenty guys, your top fifteen guys.
Obviously, nobody's ever made a movelike that in the history of the
game. I'm being sarcastic when Isay the entire system. But with what

(06:00):
reasonably they would offer for a VladimirGuerrero. You know, that's one offer
of maybe three or four but outof their control. Laddimer Gerrel's traded.
You know that you could have gottenhim, you just had to offer him
correct the team correct. But theymay have better players than you to offer.
Who knows, who knows? Whoknows? Man? All right,
Mike Florio joining us right now. It's time for a weekly conversation with Pro

(07:06):
undisputed heavyweight champ of all NFL mediafrom Pro Football Talk dot Com, the
NFL and NBC. Technically on vacationright now, I'm making time for us,
our friend, Mike Florio, howare you pel My life is a
vacation. I have no complaints.Every once in a while, though,
we pack up and we go tothe beach. We take twenty people and

(07:26):
we are having a time here inNorth Carolina. Let me ask you a
question. When you go on theroad like that, do you get noticed
by people? I mean, you'reon TV, you're doing the stuff on
you know with with Simsey. Doyou hear people go that's there's Mike Florio.
How often do you get noticed bypeople when you go out in vacation?
It happens, you know, withsome regularity. And the most common

(07:46):
thing I get is a look fromsomeone along the lines of I know you,
but I really don't know how. That's that cut of stain slash notoriety
where people recognize you, they haveno idea how they know you. I'm
that guy from that thing. AndI'll tell you this as well. And
this is a very easy approach. And I give this advice to players all

(08:09):
the time. When someone comes upto you and wants to talk to you,
or wants to take a picture orwants an autograph, just do it
because the time that it takes totell them no is roughly the same as
the time that it takes to justdo it. And if you don't do
it, they're going to have astory to tell for the rest of their
lives that they've met so and tosomewhere and he was an ass Yeah,

(08:31):
we'll go on social media and everything. So absolutely, Mike Florio joining us
on vacation. We appreciate that,Mike. What's going on with Caleb Williams.
I mean there was a port yesterdaythat it was signed, and then
today it wasn't signed, and thenit was signed. What's going on with
that contract with the Bears? Well, pretty much everybody yesterday reported the deal
was done, that it was signed, and I had people texting me saying

(08:52):
this deal isn't signed. I don'tknow what they're saying. So I started
to rub the lamp a little bit, tried to gather some information I asked
to be and they didn't get backto me right away. Well it's easy
to say yes, they got backto me, but like we'll get you
an answer. It's like, waita minute, if it signed, it's
signed. So what happened was itwasn't signed. There was still some haggling

(09:13):
to be done. And I thinkpart of it flows from the fact that
Caleb Williams isn't represented by an NFLPAcertified agent. He's representing himself. Technically,
there's a lawyer involved. The lawyermay or may not be communicating with
the Bears. I don't know howthat has gone, but it's somebody who's
inexperienced, somebody who doesn't understand someof the key terms how these things get
done. It can get a littleclunky. There was an effort though,

(09:37):
to have the Bears agree not touse the franchise tag on Caleb Williams at
the appropriate time. That went nowhere. Now there have been other players like
Dak Prescott who had gotten that term. There were other things they were trying
to do, like some creative taxstructures, treat as an LLC, do
a forgivable loan Steff aimed at notcosting the Bears any more money, just
managing the tax burden, and thatwent nowhere either. So they finally got

(09:58):
it all done well waiting to seethe final language and see what he got
over and above the standard expected deal. I think he's got the standard expected
deal. So all this stuff theytried to do went nowhere. But one
of the reasons it was delayed isbecause they at least tried to get some
of these creative unusual terms into thecontract. Well, now the Brandon Nyuk
thing has reached critical mass where hehas requested a trade. The Niners apparently

(10:20):
are telling people he's not going anywhere. How do you think the Brandon Ayuk
thing resolves itself in San Francisco?Oh? Look, the forty nine ers
were at least willing to explore thepossibility of trading Brandon Ayuk before the draft.
And my understanding is that came upbecause Ayuk's agents and the forty nine

(10:41):
ers disagreed on what his value was, and his agent said, hey,
look, can we go see ifsomebody else would pay him twenty eight million
a year. I think that's thenumber that was the focus at the time.
It might be more now because themarket has changed, and the forty
nine ers said, go ahead,Well, there were like five teams they're
willing to pay them twenty eight milliona year. It came down to whether

(11:03):
or not they could work out thetrade with the forty nine ers, and
they just couldn't work it out.I've heard the Patriots offer the second round
pick that wasn't good enough. Idon't know what the forty nine ers wanted,
but before the draft there wasn't anoffer made good enough to go along
with the financial offer. Now we'reat a point where if you're going to
train for this guy, what areyou gonna get the forty nine ers.
It's gonna help them this year. You've got to find a player that you're

(11:24):
ready to move on from that. The forty nine ers would want the salary
cap ramifications work out, and youcan thread the needle that way. So
Sa Squiellro's the Commander's the Patriots tosomeone else. It's harder now because before
the draft, you can get theforty nine ers compensation. They can turn
that into a player that helps themwin this year. If they don't get
a player current player from another team, they're just getting picks next year.

(11:48):
Well, you know what they coulddo. They could keep them this year
and tagging traded next year and stillgot those that same compensation. So you
know, there's a chance of fortynine ers just gonna play this out.
But look at what they've done withtheir other key players. They've paid their
other key players. For some reason, they haven't paid Brandon Ayuk, and
I think he's been taking advantage ofa little bit because he's good natured and

(12:09):
he hasn't been a pain in thebutt. I mean, look Deebo.
Samuel made himself into a pain inthe button. He got paid. Nick
Bosa held out for weeks and hegot paid. Ayuk might have to take
a stand, and I think therecent request for a trade may be the
beginning of him taking a stand inan effort to get paid. I mean,
the squeaky wheel works and he hasn'tbeen squeaking enough will he's squeaking now.

(12:33):
Mike tom Pellisero came on with RichEisen today and say he's hearing that
the Bill Belichick time away from theNFL will last one year and he'll be
back in the mix. And ofcourse bet online came out with odds of
Bill Belichick's next team to coach andit was a landslide even money odds on
the Dallas Cowboys. What's the likelihoodof that happening if the Cowboys failed to

(12:54):
accomplish their goals this year? Firstof all, I like to I don't
like to throw on reports from othersin this business. Well, of course
I do. Why is that newsthat Tom pelaserro said Bill Bubbat to coach
again? What did anybody think he'snot gonna try to coach next year?
Is this some groundbreaking, pulature worthynugget that we had no idea. Of

(13:16):
course, he's trying to coach nextyear. He wanted to coach this year.
He wanted to coach next year. He's trying to figure out a way
to kind of sanitize himself so fansof a team will want him. Fans
generally didn't want him after twenty twentythree. If there have been a groundswell
among the Falcons fan base, he'dhave been the head coach. If there's
been a ground swell from another fanbase, he'd have been a head coach.
I think what he's doing this yearis he is strategically trying to cleanse

(13:39):
his reputation to appeal to a youngerdemographic because for the most part, you're
gonna have fans look at this guyand say he's seventy two next year.
He's a curmudgeon. The game haspassed him by. He's a pain in
the butt. You know, themedia isn't gonna get on board because it's
gonna be a lot harder covering him. That would be somebody else who's gonna
be more cooperative. So there's alot of working against him. So between

(14:01):
doing Pat McAfee's show Inside the NFL, the Manning Cast. This is his
strategy for getting back in. He'sgot to do something to change the mood
around him, the perception of him, right. And yeah, of course
the Cowboys would be the favorite becauseJerry Jones has already openly talked about hiring
guy. He's already talked about it. That's Jerry Jones for you. But

(14:22):
yeah, the Cowboys I think arethe favorite, and the Eagles could still
be in it if they stink againthis year. If they didn't stink last
year, they just collapsed down thestretch. But there will be teams out
there potentially interested. But you gotto get the fan base fired up before
you can get to the point wherea hire gets made. So, Jordan
Love of Green Bay, has hedone enough, in your opinion to earn

(14:43):
a big, big deal from thePackers. They're talking about an extension for
him. He's had one year asa starter and he played well, right,
and that one years a starter. But if you're the Packers' front office,
have you seen enough out of JordanLove to hand over fifty million dollars?
Well, he struggled at first andthen really turned it around. And
by the end of the season hewas looking like he could be a potential

(15:05):
superstar. There's a way to dothis deal that pays him a fair value,
a nice chunk of a salary capand protects the packers. You know,
we hear about these deals, andthe reporters don't bother to try to
get to the bottom of what thedeal really is. They just want to
hype up the numbers because the moreyou hype up the numbers, the more
likely you are to get the textmessages from the agents who want the numbers

(15:26):
to be hyped up. But youcan do these contracts where you can get
out after a year or two GenoSmiths deal, remember all three years one
hundred hudred dollars. Wait, theycan cut him after one year, they
can cut him after two years.I think that if the packers can build
in some sort of flexibility. Let'stake it's a two year deal like with
the Giants had with Daniel Jones. Two years fully guaranteed and maybe a third

(15:48):
year becomes fully guaranteed after the firstyear, so they have to make a
decision after one year what they're goingto do with Jordan Love. Something like
that would be. I think thebackbone of a contract, they would be
close to market value. But thatapplies to him, It applies to Tua,
it applies to Dak to a certainextent. What kind of escape hatch
can I put in there to protectthe team? Look at what the Raiders

(16:10):
did with Derek Carr a couple ofyears ago. It was right around this
time of year. Oh forty milliona year. Oh all this guaranteed,
Mike. Oh wait a minute,The Raiders can rip it up after one
year, and they did. Sothat's the kind of thing that I think
we need to keep in mind. The Packers will protect themselves. It'll be
big money, and I think it'llget done before camp starts, but they
will protect themselves in the event thatJordan Love ends up regressing and off becoming

(16:33):
the guy that they need him tobe. I love what you just did
with Peli Sara. I'm gonna letyou do it with dan Orlowski. Oh,
here we go, go do itme. Dan Orlowski says it's a
done deal. DeVante Adams will bea jet before the end of the season.
Do you agree with that? Andhow toxic is it in Vegas for
him? After watching The Receiver documentarywhere he's going off on Jimmy G.

(16:56):
Yeah. I haven't watched The Receiverdocumentary yet. I haven't had time too,
but I've heard about it. Look, I'm always leary about non reporters
who are trying to report news becausethey've got the ultimate double edged sword.
Although it's not a sword, it'sa double edged I don't know nerf fall
where if they're right, they cansay, hey, I was right.
If they're wrong, hey, wellI'm not a reporter, that's just what

(17:17):
I heard. So I don't puta whole lot of stock in somebody who
doesn't look. I don't tell himhow to play quarterback. And I don't
like it when people who haven't beenreporters think they know just because somebody told
this something to be a text message, not realizing, hey, this is
a guy who's on TV. IfI can get him to say this,
if I can get him to repeatthis, it advances my interest. They
don't think of it that way.Oh somebody told me something, I'm going

(17:38):
to go use it. They don'ttry to get a second source, they
don't try to think it through, they don't try to debunk it. They
don't talk to the teams and tryto get a response from them. They
get no contact, they get noofficial positions. That's the problem with that.
And so it's great for him becauseif he's right, hey I was
right. If he's wrong, ah, hey, I'm not a reporter,
I'm a quarterback analyst. Mike, you're the man. Great stuff. Enjoy

(18:02):
North Carolina. Try to stay asincognito as you can. You're a big
celebrity. And we'll talk in aweek, buddy, goodbye, any buddy,
Mike Florial with us on the radioshow. I want to revisit the
Mariner trade conversation. We're two weeksaway, right from the deadline, thirteen
days away from the deadline. I'lljust say this, I think this is
going to be a lot more difficultthan people think for a lot of reasons

(18:23):
that aren't being talked about. We'llrevisit some of those next on ninety three
to three KJRFM Live from the Rand R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio. Now
back to Softie and Dick on yourHome for the Huskies and the Craken Sports

(19:11):

starting at four ninety five and Iand the new Evil implannable contact lenses as
well. All right, so we'retalking last segment about the Hollander conversation with
Chris Crawford today. Great chat byChris with the GM of the Mariners.
I hope people know that Jerry isthe Director of Baseball Operations or whatever that's

(19:34):
his thing. So he's got thefancy schmancy tittle, but really in the
end, Jerry's in charge of baseball, but Hollander is the GM and he's
on Chris today, and so thatspawned this conversation about kind of how much
of a break I guess will yougive them at the deadline if they can't
get the significant offensive piece that we'relooking for. That a fair way to
put it. And I just thinkthis, I think it's gonna be really

(19:55):
hard to get that impact bat thatyou're talking about. You've mentioned Vladimir,
Others have mentioned guys like Pete Alonzoand Luis Roberts, just you know,
the usual suspects out there. Somehave mentioned Cody Bellinger. I think he
might be hurt though. But here'sthe thing for me, I think Mariner
fans, if they do not makea move of the deadline, are gonna
have every right to be totally frustratedwith this organization. But not just because

(20:21):
they did not make a move withthe deadline, because I think it's going
to be almost impossible to get thisdone at the trade deadline. The anger
and the frustration for me is goingto just be a carryover from what their
approach has been the last three fouryears in free agency. And it's just
another example of why you cannot waituntil July thirtieth to get better. You

(20:42):
want to get better, you haveto do it when all you need to
do is write a check to somebody. You have to do it when you
don't have to give up a bunchof prospects. You have to do it
when there's not, you know, two thirds of the team that think they
have a shot to win a WorldSeries in three months, which is where
two thirds of the league is orone third whatever. The point at Dick

(21:02):
is that when you're talking about likethe Mariners farm system, and you mentioned
in the break that they have thenumber one farm system right well according to
whom pipeline Baseball Reference dot com.Because does Chris Getz, who's the GM
of the Blue Jays, think theMariners have the number one prospects or does
he think Baltimore's got that? Orhe's the White Sox guy. Sorry,

(21:22):
Ross Atkins, who's the Blue Jayguy. So, like John Schneider would
always have a different draft board thanwhat CBS and ESPN would say. They've
got a really good farm system,no question about it. But when you're
competing with other teams for these players, what do those other teams that are
trading these guys cove it? Dothey covet the players that Baltimore's got and
the position groups? Do they covetthe guys that you have. That's another

(21:47):
factor. Some of these guys haveno trade clauses and they may not even
come to you, they may notresign with you. So there's just so
many variables, Dick, that areout of your control when you wait until
July thirtieth to get better. Teamshave three major League ready top half of
the rotation pitchers that are tradeable inBryce Miller, Brian Woo, and Emerson
Hancock. Uh none, right,But why do I want to trade those

(22:11):
guys? Why would I want torob Peter to pay Paul? Because you
can afford to trade those guys ifit brings you of Vladimir you can.
Yes, absolutely, you're telling methat is not worth more than Brian wu
is to this baseball team this season. I think Brian Wu Yes, but
it will take more than that.I mean, you're talking about trading maybe
two fifths of your rotation. Yourrotation is the biggest reason why you're here

(22:33):
in the first time. I understandyour logic. I just think I think
that's debatable that you're going to startrobbing Peter to pay Paul Because in a
perfect world, I want to takefrom the farm system to get guys like
that, Right, I don't wantto disrupt my major league ready pitching staff
because my major league ready pitching staffhas the number one e er in the
American League, the number one whipin the majors, and the number one

(22:55):
opposing batting average in baseball. Ifyou take away from that, Robin Peter
to pay Paul and I don't thinkthat's the right way to win a World
Series. You need to add,not replaced, to this ross. Right.
What I'd understand is when we havethis argument, this conversation in the
offseason, right, and you're justlike, just pay more, just pay
more, just And I'm like,no, if you have a budget,
you can't just pay more. Sowhy are you there? Way financial?

(23:19):
Right? So, now, whyaren't you just saying the same thing,
just pay more. If you wantVladimir Guerrero, just pay more than the
other guys to get him, becauseplayers is different than money. Do you
mean why you said yourself to justprospects. No, you just mentioned two
guys that are in your rotation. Now I'm talking about one of those guys
plus products's. I'm fine with that. I'm totally fine with that. But

(23:41):
that's the whole point, though thatmay work for me, is that gonna
work for Ross Atkins? Is thatgonna work for Chris Gatz of the White
Sox. I have no idea,That's my whole point. I have no
idea what those guys covit. Ihave no idea what they think of my
farm system versus the Yankees, orversus the Orioles, or versus the Guardians.
I have no clue what those guysare looking for. So if we
all live in a vacuum and allof us can agree that the Mariners,

(24:04):
because MLB pipeline says so, havethe number one prospects in baseball, then
great. But I don't know ifthat's the case. I have no idea
what Toronto wants, what they covet. I also have no idea if the
players I'm looking at have a notrade clause. And I also have no
idea if they'll resign here when theircontracts are up. So again, I'm
totally with you on the prospects, one thousand percent with you on the prospects.

(24:26):
I would dump every single one ofthem to get a guy like a
Vladimir ger Errol. I mean, obviously I'm being slightly sarcastic. There's obviously
a point you can get to.But if you want my top three or
four guys, take them, pathave at it. But the difference is
that those are guys that are notimpacting you. Now, they're not impacting
your major league ready rotation, whichI think once you get to the postseason,

(24:48):
imagine the marriage of the playoffs, because you and I have both agreed
the bullpennings up right, Imagine gettingthe playoffs and you're gonna start Castillo,
Kirby Gilbert and Bryce Miller and Brianwu go to the pen along with Andres
Munno's and Gregory Santos, which isthat's a scary proposition for opponents, which
is why in the playoffs you probablydon't need to pick up a reliever at

(25:10):
the trade deadline. You need topick up a reliever now trade deadline to
get to agree. Totally agree withyou, cause your bullpen is fine because
of that situation. What I wouldjust ask Jerry and Justin is this,
Okay, let's just forget about twentytwenty four for a second. What about
twenty twenty five? Right at twentytwenty six, what is going to pull
your offense out of the mire.Where are you if not for Vladimir Guerrero

(25:33):
or Palonzo or whomever at the deadline, especially guys that have beyond this year
eligibility on your team? How areyou not going to be the worst offense
in baseball in twenty twenty five andtwenty twenty six because you don't have prospects
in the farm system that are readyto go in twenty twenty five. So
how are you going to get theseplayers? Well, Harry Ford's gonna start
playing the outfield. That's gonna happen, number one. Number two, I

(25:56):
agree with you that you're going tohave to start spending some money in free
agents to make it happen because youcan't develop them. I mean, they
just have. They've proven that overnine years that they just that's kind of
a hole in their game or theballpark. You know, one of the
two is a problem. Like forexample, Guerrero's got one year left,
he's got arbitration next year, andthen he's a free agent, So can
you re sign him? Does hewant to stay here? I mean,
you've been barking up the tree andyou're one hundred percent correct in doing it.

(26:19):
That this is a graveyard for hitters. I mean, Vladmird Carrera Guerrero
just spent the All Star Game weekendor week with Taskar Hernandez, who won
the home run derby telling the entireworld you can't hit at T Mobile Park.
Yes, so all these free agentshere are that stuff. And so
you're gonna have to overpay number oneto get him, which I think you
can do if you'll watch you ifyou want. But I'm not really interested

(26:41):
in taking away from my rotation tofix the offense because I think at that
point you're just spinning your wheels. You really are. You've got to find
a way to keep this rotation intactand add the bat you're looking for.
And again, what you've done isyou've created a scenario where the old the
only way you can do that isby dumping prospects. You know, the

(27:03):
check book in the credit card islocked up, right, we just don't
do it that way. So youwant to go out and get free agents,
you're gonna have to get guys withwarts like Polanco and Garver, and
those are the guys here now.So my frustration of the deadline is gonna
be just a culmination of their philosophyand how they got to this point.
What you have to do is youhave to do with Guerrera. I'm just
using Guerrera as an example. Youhave to do with Guerrero what you did

(27:26):
with Luis Castile. You have totrade for him, and then you have
to give him a contract right away. And you're right, you're gonna have
to overpay for him. But VladimirGuerrero can give you eight to fifty ops
on the road and seven to fiftyops at at T Mobile Park. My
god, that is worth I agreewith that. Thirty million dollars a year

(27:47):
to this. Don't think you canjust discount just Luis Castillo being a pitcher
in Guerrero being a hre. Iknow, but that means that's why you
have to pay him more than Ijust don't think that. Vladimir Guerrero and
I have no idea who his agentis. Is he gonna to come here
and just say all right, I'llsign, I'll give up arbitration, I'll
give up the first three or fouryears of free agency starting in twenty six
and take whatever offer. I mean, yeah, you offer him fifty million

(28:08):
bucks, He'll say yes, right, let's start with the three at least
man, maybe even more than thatpotentially. And again the blue Jays.
First of all, there's a bigconversation coming out of Toronto if the Blue
Jays are even willing to trade him. That's number one. So again,
when it comes to you and afree agent, you go to a guy,
you offer a deal. Yes he'sgot to dance with you, but

(28:30):
now you need so many other variablesto go your way. You have to
offer the best deal. You haveto get a guy that somebody's willing to
give up. You have to geta guy that wants to sign with you
long term. You have to havethe right prospects. You have to have
the right prospects that somebody else covets. There's just too many steps, there's
too many steps involved to sit aroundand rely on the trade deadline to save

(28:52):
your bacon. And that's what bugsme. All Right, Look, they
can, yes, if they reallyreally really really really really really really wanted
to, they could get any buddythey wanted to the deadline, pay money,
give up prospects, whatever. Butwhy are we waiting for that scenario
two unfold when we could have donethis two three years ago? When the
Major League Baseball off seasons were stuffedlike a turkey with free agents. The

(29:14):
guy that the guy that you wereright on was was Marcus Simeon. If
you'd have gotten Marcus Simeon and playedhim at second base the last two years,
we'd be in a different situation. All right, let's do this.
We've got a break. I'm gonnago shower off here in the in the
commercial break, and then we'll doa little fun with audio. Slash hated
you hear that coming up on ninetythree three kJ RFM. It's now time

(29:36):
for Sunday and Digg's fun with Audio. Jimmy g pawn Star, Jimmy mister
garoppolo. Now let's have some funwith audio. All right, back here,
Jimmy's on first on a Wednesday.I like being here on Wednesdays,
any day that ends in Why yeahsaying I'm being here at Jimmy's. Why
don't this make this our permanent homeman every queen Monday. We'll just stay
here Tuesday through Friday. I'm totallyfine with it. We can even live

(30:00):
here. There's a hotel upstairs, everything you need. There's no need to
leave. The boss say we can'tdo that. You know what, who's
the boss. I'm not sure thereis a boss. We are in charge.
We are the masters of our ownuniverse. We can do whatever the
hell we want, a little funwith audios slash. Hey did you hear
that? Here we go? Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear
that? What's that? Dick?We start with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver holding

(30:22):
a press conference yesterday where he clearlyoutlined the next steps for the NBA expanding
I have been saying, you know, for the last several years, let's
let collective bargaining finish up, andthen the media deals. As I said
earlier, we're not quite done withour media deals yet, but once we
are, we will turn to considerationaround expansion. I will say it's a

(30:48):
bit more complicated than it suggested sometimebecause just think of the new media deals,
for example, once they're completed, when you bring in new partners,
you're diluting those payments of course toteams. So having said that, you
know, I think we will engagethis fall in earnest in the process of
making those determinations, you know, should we expand and if we were to

(31:12):
expand how many teams should we expandin what markets should we be looking at
Halloween, which is why the ownerswill receive a nice big ten billion dollar
check total from total from the JesusLas Vegas owners. Ten billion dollar check

(31:33):
and if my math serves me right, that's about three hundred million dollars per
owner. It might be more thanthat, by the way, it might
be twelve billion when it's all saiddone. I think Halloween. I think
Halloween is the day. I thinkwe know. By Halloween, I think
the bord of governors will have theirlittle deal, their old Dally Bob in
New York City or whereverybody they'll finda nice hotel like Built Moore in Arizona,
get together and just make a weekendout of it. I think October
thirty first is on a Thursday.I am predicting by Halloween we will know

(31:56):
that we're getting the team back.Then. I'm wearing the Walter cronkite Jeff
when he's rubbing his hands Apollo eleven, he takes his glasses like it's like
a fat guy to doughnut shop, give me one of everything. Well,
Halloween's a bottle deal that opening day. Yeah, it makes sense. I
think Halloween they do it to kickoff the season, right, Halloween's the
day, Dick, And then weall dress up as our favorite Sonic players
for Halloween and go bashing on people'sdoors. Give me some candy for coming

(32:21):
back bay? All right, Dick, did you happen here? What's that?
Dick? During the Pat McAfee showon Monday, the ESPN host blasting
his own network for their ongoing listof the top one hundred athletes of the
twenty first century. Daner Lovsky, who's been on ESPN all morning, we
joined us in six minutes. We'llprobably just cook him and ESPN as a
whole for a lot of the teamand putting out from ESPN's people. Now,

(32:43):
there is a top one hundred listthat is coming out from ESPN people,
and I'll tell you what it is, the epitome of everything that everybody
hates about ESPN. What they choseto do in ranking the top one hundred
athletes in like twenty first century. They only gave us from fifty to one
hundred yesterday. What a show,What an ops terrible list. And we'll
blame Dan or Lovesky for that.So they'll be joining us at about six
months. We can't wait for thatsofty we do. He hero's thirty seventh.

(33:09):
By the way, he's the highmost. Uh, he's the highest
ranked with Seattle Player, which meansSue Bird maybe higher than him. I
mean, sup Bird's gonna be thereor he's not on the list. Oh
my god, I will bet alot of money that superb dude. What
McAfee is saying. And first ofall, I think this is all great
promotion for ESPN and for this list. I think if there's any ESPN executives

(33:29):
that are losing their mind about PatMcAfee criticizing dot com, they're they're they're
not seeing the forest through the treesbecause he is giving them massive promotion for
the website. How many people thatwatch his show are going to flock to
the website to see this list becausehe mentioned it all right, whether it's
criticism or whether it's complimentary, itdoesn't matter. People will go there and
check it out. I think he'stalking about politics getting in the way.

(33:52):
He's talking about those that believe it'sit's woke Center and not sports Center,
if you will, getting in theway. I think he's talking about all
those things that we are looking atpeople for more than just their sporting career,
which is what you complained about alot when people talk about Lebron.
James's right, and I think thathe's talking about people doing that when they
put this kind of list together.I think Sue's gonna show up. I

(34:13):
think I think you might have twoStorm players sho up. I think Brandon
Stewart might show up on the toptwenty five as well. She don't think
she's been voted at the yet yeteither. And you're certainly gonna get Diana
Tarrossi. So you're gonna have threeWNBA players in the top twenty five.
Well, each hero is thirty seventh. Then do three WNBA players deserve to
be in the top twenty five?Maybe they don't. Maybe that's just not
you know, something that people believeis deserve it of that kind of honor.

(34:37):
I had like seven women soccer playersin the top one hundred. Again,
maybe people think that's ridiculous too, right, I mean, I think
I think all of this. Ithink people have this perception of ESPN that
they have agendas over at ESPN,and they have created a lot of that.
When you allow your personalities to ventureoutside the sports realm. You're going

(34:57):
to invite some of that criticism, and it's just something they have to live
with. If the ratings are fine, and the ratings reflect people being a
part of it, then great. But I think a lot of people see
it going the opposite way. Igot one quick, one real quick,
thank you. That's repetitive. Hey, Dick, did you happen to hear
that? What's that? Dick?Okay? Uh? Number four? During
last night's MLB All Star Game,Philly short stopped Trey Turner made a diving

(35:20):
play while miked up and talking tothe Fox announcers at all costs, no
matter. Oh the middle stabbing stumpby Trey? Are you kidding me?
I love that? Well, officiallyit's the greatest play by a player who
has wore the mic. There's oneproblem with that broadcast call right there?

(35:44):
Who's doing the play by play?By the way, was that was that
radio? Or TV? Was thatTV? Why don't you just shut up
and let the guy do the playand just get everything you can from him?
Right? Just be quiet? Imean it drives me crazy. He
was talking during the play. Lethim talk. Zip it stop zip Let
Trey Turner to take over. Right, whatever comments editorializing, you had to

(36:04):
offer, knock at off. Thisis an incredible moment to hear this guy
make this play while Mike Dopson andYou're babbling during the conversation. You got
to no one to breathe, right, no one to let the situation breathe.
I was watching last night for somestupid reason, I went down a
YouTube rabbit hole, and I waswatching the Minneapolis Miracle, the Stefan Diggs
play against the Saints for that lasttouchdown, and Paul Allen getting stepped on

(36:27):
by his color guy. I thinkit was the worst. God, it
was awful, Dick. It wasso bad, and I felt so bad
for Paul because he no, no, well maybe I have. I don't
remember. I can't remember what happenedyesterday, man, But yeah, I
think I have, and I thinkhe was. That's kind of the way
they do that on that broadcast. But when you have a broadcaster that zis

(36:51):
zips his or her mouth and lessmoments like that talk for themselves, you
would think that that'd be an easything to do. It's actually an art
that a lot of broadcasters have notfigured out. That sandwich looks awesome by
the way, you want to haveit. Yeah, maybe we're gonna thank
you for offering. He finally didit, Jackson. He offered half of
a sandwich. Petros is gonna joinus next on ninety three three k j
