Speaker 1 (00:00):
Up in three weeks, either on November twenty second or
twenty third. So here we are with the Sounders advancing
wins in penalty kicks in both Game one and Game two.
My oh my, Welcome into the postgame show Jackson Feltz,
calen Roe Peat viewing. We're gonna go quick, We're gonna
break this down. We got a flight to catch back

(00:20):
up to Seattle. So Callen, I'll start with you. Let's
start with penalties. Let's start right there. And what was
a seven for seven performance that ended with the big
Fry heroics. Well, it's not easy to go seven for
seven in the first game, go five for five, twelve
for twelve and pens is not something.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
To kind of scoff that here. It's not easy to do.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
And the amount of saves that we had seven Fry,
actually I would count to I know that that darn
rule of not stepping a toe over that line, but
it was incredible. And I think the resilience of these
guys to be perfect in such a hard moment after
a hard fought game for ninety minutes multiple times now,
I think it's it's a testament to the.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Team, no question.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
And typically the math is eighty percent that guys will
make it, so you would figure that Seattle would miss
two somewhere in the twelve. So that is a phenomenal
And you know, Brian Schweitzer, we get a chance to
talk to him before the game, right, and we talk
about penalty kicks because obviously we just saw it in
the first game. But he had total confidence obviously in

(01:21):
Christian and Reagan and Alex. He had confidence in Lava,
he had confidence in Obit and Georgie, and of course
he always has confidence cer and real ideas.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
But we're sitting there.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Going, well, you're the coach, you know, right, But these
young guys, they grow up when they do this. Obit, Vargas, Georgie,
even Reagan, right, even though he's got one under his belt, Lava,
those were all terrific penalty kicks, and frankly, I love
here's the deal. The good guy in goal prevailed in
my opinion, because it because Fry is a good guy.

(01:54):
Doesn't do the antics, He doesn't do the you know,
in your face, doesn't.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Fry goes to his line where Clark comes off his line.
The refereece to keep pushing him back.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
He's trying to ice our kickers, and uh, it didn't
work right, So the good guy came out ahead on
this one. And I'm thrilled for all these young kids.
It's really impressive to me. And you know, Brian Schweitzer
instills confidence in players, right, especially the young guys. He
makes him feel like they can do it. I mean,
you put, you just put. Georgie hasn't started too many

(02:25):
games in the MLS and now he's taking a penalty
kick all.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
That in a heated moment.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Moment.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
If he missed, there could be a chance that they.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Lose it, that might be the biggest moment of the
kid's life so far.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
That was an incredible thing, And for me, it was
the switch up of the lineup time and then all
of a sudden they switched it up. And now I
don't know if that was actually a tactical genius of
Clark having Raoul going first, he had, you know, Albert
going second. He probably had that, and now he's thinking,
oh gosh, who was the first kicker again? Yeah, you know,
maybe he was a tactical genius by I think Smetzer
and probably I'm guessing Andy Rose, who's there, you.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Know, and Tommy Duch trapsolutely brilliant, throw credits rhythm.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
But like you said, good guy seven Fry, who's always
our good guy.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
He's class fails right.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
He does things the right way and he know he's
picking players up when they're on the ground, and you know,
I just like how he operates.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
He's been a great pro. But that's you know, the
good guy karma.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
With credit to Christian roll Don getting that goal there
in the eighty seventh minute.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
And we will talk.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
About the game as a whole, the one in the
ninety second Wiet.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
We're not gonna We're not gonna talk about it, gosh, Okay, listen,
we'll talk about we'll talk about c R seven scoring
a brace tonight, just one for the other team. But listen,
all is well, that ends well, and we can joke
aside and we can all laugh about it now. Yes,
Christian Roldan scored two goals and and he scored a
great goal for the Sounders in the eighty seventh minute.
But with respect to that, the big save in the

(03:49):
seventh round of penalties, tonight's Toyota Man of the Match,
of course, is the man in goal, Stephan Fry, your
local Toyota Duos are proud to present tonight's Man of
the Match, a great job by Stephen Fry. There. We'll
take a break here on the postmatch show. We'll come
back and talk about the game as a whole. It
finished one to one before penalties. Let's talk about how
we got there in the big twists and turns over
the final forty five minutes that will come up next

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Oh, it's a Houston version taken care of business. Let's
let this song play out for a while. Ryan, this
is great to hear. Coming to you from Shell Energy
Stadium in Houston, Texas. The rain is gone and sunshine
is out for the Sounders as they have advanced past
the Houston Dynamo. Maybe a little bit harder than it
needed to be, but listen, penalty shootout win game one,

(07:45):
and a penalty shootout win in game two, Stephen Fry
a save in the seventh round, and on that notice,
now time for our Emerald Queen Casino play of the match.
We gotta hear Danny Jackson's call. It was, of course,
and it's Tate Schmidt stepping up for Houston in the
seventh round and Stephen Fry right there taking care of business.

Speaker 15 (08:07):
Refrees whistle, goes just inside the eighteen yard books.

Speaker 7 (08:11):
Stephan Fried make the safe. He does make the same.

Speaker 5 (08:14):
You're listening to the Home of Sunders Stephen Fry.

Speaker 15 (08:17):
He walks up, goes across the Steve clock. The crowd
goes silent, and Stephen Fry makes the second save with
the night and the all important saved to put the
Sounders through to the next round of the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
And they are through to the Western Conference Semifinals with
that save. The play of the match is presented by
Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. Also

waiting for you welcome back in to the postgame show,
Jackson Feltzkelen Roe Peat viewing. All right, as you said
the previous segment, Callen, Yes, Christian Roldan had two goals,

(09:18):
and he had a great goal in the eighty seventh
minute for the Sounders and then the own goal in
the ninety third minute that made it one one. So
when we look at this game overall and we look
at how we ended up getting here, Houston got a
red card in the sixty fourth minute as well Herrera's
by spitting at a referee. What are your takeaways? Just

(09:38):
in the ninety minutes before penalty kicks.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
In the ninety minutes, they wanted to play better. You
could see it on their faces when it kind of
when the red card came, there was a little.

Speaker 16 (09:48):
Bit of a relief.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
But we can't keep relying on a red card happening
in the middle of the field, especially to an important
player for another team. It's just not always gonna happen.
It was very lucky these times that someone lost their
head and it became a red card. But you know,
I think this game compared to last game a home
in a way, which is actually funny to have is
that we had more attack going in this game. I

(10:10):
think we were actually goal dangerous. There were opportunities, there
were shots on goal, there were there was a lot
of runs off the ball as well.

Speaker 7 (10:17):
I think that was great.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
And you saw it in the goal that Christian scored,
is that Danny Lava attempted something. It got recycled. Knew
who's the you know, not very likely person to get
up that high. But he played a one two with
Danny Lava put in a good ball and obviously Christian
Woldan did the rest. It was not an easy finish
as well, coming across his body and putting it to
that right side rather than coming back to where it
came from, which is actually something that all coaches teach

(10:39):
when you're when you're a child. But Christian Woldan made
it look easy. And then obviously I know that those
guys in the locker right now are not going to
be happy, and I don't think coach would be either.
As he's thinking about the game, he's thinking about how
it should have gone. Because you're up late in the game,
you're up one zero. All you got to do is
anyone you put in all Your whole job is to
keep it at zero, and it was a sloppy play

(11:01):
in the midfield that led to a good attack from Houston.
But I did too many numbers were getting too high,
getting too happy, and getting too inexperienced to lose that
ball in the middle of field in a dangerous area.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
I think there's there's a lot of things.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
They can clean up going into the next round that
they're going to have to clean up if they're going
to play some top end teams at in the Lester Coppets.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Final playoffs are always they're not always pretty right, and
and we came into this game, you know, a day ago,
we thought we had Albert Russnek right and we were
hopeful that Jordan Morris would be available right. So they
had to put a team together that was we knew
was not going to be able to go in ninety minutes,
and they they found a way to win.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
And you're right, that last goal is tough.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
But you got to give Houston credit because they never
gave up, and they had the crowd, you know, pushing
them forward. And I'll tell you Dorsey on that right
hand side, he's a fun kid, and he's got a
lot of energy and he just kept going and going,
and he plays a ball across and Christianez. You know,
it's just one of those things you're in the way
more than anything, and it bounces off you and goes
into the back of the net.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
So you got to give them some credit. Then there's
a flurry.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
Even after that, there's about ten twelve minutes of stoppage
time where Seattle had really good chances. So in that regard,
I think Brian's gonna be pleased about the fact that
never gave up, never gave up.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
And then found a way to win.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
And he's gonna look at Raoul Ruideas and say, hey,
you went ninety minutes, then you got the penalty kick.
Those are tired legs if you go ninety minutes, especially
it's hot and all that. So I think they look
at it and now it's a three week off, so
maybe we get Jordan Morris back, probably should get Albert
back as well, and they regroup and right now it's
it's uh.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Well, let's let's leave that as a tease beat. Let's
use out of teas because we have news about what's
happening between LAFC and the Vancouver white Caps in their
game too. We'll take a break. We'll wrap up a
postmatch show by telling you who could potentially be the
Sounder's opponent in three weeks in the Western Conference Semifinal.
That'll come up next following a Sounders Game two penalty

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Welcome back to Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texans, where
the Sounders fans are leaving smiling and Houston Dynamo fans
are leaving quiet with their season over. The Sounders have
advanced with a penalty kick shootout win, just like in
Game one, this time it went seven rounds. Stephan Fry
with a save in the seventh round, and the Sounders
are through to the Western Conference Semifinal. I'll tell you

(16:36):
that Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Providence, Swedish official
healthcare partner of Sounders FC. SO now comes up the
West semi. If they is a one game, it's no
longer this best of three series. It will be one game.
Sounders are the four seed, so right now they will
face either the Vancouver white Caps at home or on
the road against LAFC. Now we know LAFC beat Vancouver

(16:59):
in Game one. This Game two is going on right
now in Vancouver and the white Caps are leading by
a score of two to nothing in the thirtieth minute,
and that means if they hold on callen, we could
see a big, big Game three between these teams next
week winner to face the Sounders.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
Look, I love that it's gonna be a battle because
obviously LAFC has been on top of this Western Conference
as well as LA Galaxy, and they've had the Sounders
number this year. So if Vancouver can eke out this
this victory here at home in Vancouver and then go
to LA and give him a fighting battle, you know,
everyone in this booth, everyone's sitting at home listening to

(17:39):
us and watching these Sounders games, is gonna want Vancouver
rather than LAFC. And now we're gonna let that game
go out. There's a lot of time left and this
game is gonna be a lot you know, obviously ninety
plus minutes, and then in the following game in the
following weekend if it gets there. But it is a positive,
positive look at the moment that Vancouver has a chance
against LAFC.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
Well, we just saw Columbus go out. They are number
two in the supporter Shield with sixty six points behind
Miami seventy four and they go out to the New
York Red Bulls. So we say this all the time
in the MLS, any team can beat any other team
on any given day. And you know Vancouver across the league,
everyone knows that LA is the team, uh, And so
Vancouver has no pressure on them, but they also have ability, right,

(18:22):
and they've got to coach that fires them up. So
it'll be an interesting you know thinking. But man, I
don't like that it's sixty more minutes.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
I know it's too much time in these games.

Speaker 7 (18:31):
Yeah, yeah, not for us, but of course there's too
much time in them. Yeah from them.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
One goal from La and the tide can turn very
quick and all of a sudden, they've just got too
much firepower. So they got to keep the clean sheet
and they've got to get through the next hour.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
Well that will do it for our postgame show, obviously
it's been tight. So we're gonna have a Sounders Weekly
seven pm ninety three point three KJR FM this coming
Wednesday to continue reacting to this penalty shootout win and
start looking ahead to the West semifinal, whether it's Vancouver
or LAFC. That may be l EFC, or it may
be a Game three. We'll have more on the Weekly

(19:05):
Show seven pm on Wednesday on ninety three point three FM.
I want to thank everybody with tonight's broadcast. Great job

who want to thank you all so much for listening.
It's been a joy to be here at Shell Energy Stadium.
We're gonna take a happy flight home. Hope to see

(19:48):
a lot of Sounder fans back in Seattle smiling faces
for the next few weeks ahead of the West Semifinal.
Have a very very good rest of your Sunday night, everybody.
