Speaker 1 (00:01):
Now back to Seattle Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
After one and twenty minutes, the hometown hero sends Seattle
through Shortan Morris a one hundred and ninth minute goal
and the Sounders are headed to the West Final. Let's
go down on the field. Maybe the man of the
match Stephan Fryan goals with on Michelle Ludka.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Thank you Jackson Stephen Fry. Here through to the Western
Conference Finals for the seventh time in club history, the
fifth time in the Brian Schmitzer era. How does it
feel to be that much closer to the possibility of
another trophy and a home match.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
Yeah, that's what it is. We said this before the game,
that this is an opportunity. You know, it's not a
the record designed, it's it doesn't matter. This is an opportunity.
And when a team pass quality and we believe in
our quality and we sense that there is an opportunity,
then you know, good these happened and today we just
left it on the field. I think guys work their
butts off, sorry part of my French, but they work

(01:05):
so so hard and fully deserve to get a result,
and it feels great.

Speaker 5 (01:09):
I mean, just gotta keep going now. One step closer.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Beautiful team effort tonight and a complete team performance, but
you personally nine saves in goal. I know you don't
like to talk about yourself step, but we've got to
give credit where crevit is to What is it about
your mindset, your skill set that continues to allow you
to come up with these beautiful saves match after match
a year after year.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
I have to commend again my teammates, my coaches taught
me the preparation. I think when you're talking about putting
in hard work on a training field every single day,
it preps you for things like this right so that.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
You're ready when it's do or die.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
And if you have the drive, the hunger to achieve things,
then you don't want to lose.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
And in the playoffs, you know it's it's win.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Or go home.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
And maybe that just gets me, it gets me going
out of't know, but I'm happy we're advanced, seeing one
step closer to again. The only reason why we're doing
is to win trophies. That's the only reason one step closer.
I'm really proud of the.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Guys l AFC has had.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
This team's number of late it's it's been a rough stretch.
What was it that this squad did tonight to break
through and make the necessary changes to break that ten
match unbeaten streak against the side.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
We switched to on defense of five in the back
that that turned into a three when we had our
possession of trying to build s, which you know, in
possession more like what we're used to playing, but but
on defense it's a bit more compact, and it really
allowed us to think to slide out and put guys
under pressure, guys who were lethal when they're on one.
We won and for the most part really not give

(02:42):
them too much. And so I think the tactical changes
we made really really suits us. I mean, I'm I'm
I'm excited. Hopefully you can keep going with this, but
also looking ahead for next preseason if you can work
on this this shape, I think it suits our skill
our skills that we have defenders that are really good,
but we can also then you know, have our wing

(03:02):
backs comment and help one you attack.

Speaker 5 (03:05):
But it just it worked today. It worked.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
This squad always talks about control what you can control,
and you guys are doing just that. Of course, taking
care of business where you can all eyes tomorrow night
will be on the LA Galaxy Minnesota match. But if
that goes in Minnesota's favor, then you guys will have
home field advantage with the Western Conference Finals and then
hopefully knock on wood the MLS Cup. Knowing that little
extra that you guys can have a run similar to

(03:31):
twenty nineteen and bring it back home for your fans.
What does that do to this team on top of
just the attic excitement of being one step closer to
that trophy and the win tonight.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
You know, we watched I think it was when Atlanta
won against Miami.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
We watched as a team.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
We were on had a team dinner and we watched
a whole thing, and I think Paul Rothrock was sitting
next to me and he was a bit upset to Miami.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Made the ex He's like, I would love to win
an MLS Cup against Miami. I was like, dude, I
don't care how you win MLS Cup. If you can
win it at home, it doesn't really matter. The easiest
way possible. If you can add a star, that's what
you want. And so a little bit of an inexperience
of our youth but yeah, I mean that that's the goal, right,
one one more closer and we're looking at potentially playing
at home, which is incredible.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
So one step at a time.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
But I think this gave us a huge confidence boost.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Even if you have to go down.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
To La which again is another great tide, or Minnesota
at our place, it'll be a tough match, but today
it was a confidence booster for sure.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Steph.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Always appreciate your time. Congratulations, enjoy this moment. Thank you
for continuing the ride for us. We can't wait to
follow you on the next match.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Thank you, Jackson, back to you, Thanks Michelle, and thanks
to Stephan Fry. The Sounders are through to the Western
Conference Final. Let's uh, let's take a moment to breathe
for a second, because that was an all timer that
we will remember for decades to come. I mean, we're in,

(04:55):
you know, fifty years of greatness for our Sounders, and
you know, starting the next fifty and across the next fifty,
we'll remember tonight here at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles,
where I mean it was for for a lot of
the second half it was raining and we felt some
of the drizzle and it's it's chilly, and it felt

(05:15):
Seattle like, and you know, here we brought a little
Seattle sunshine into Los Angeles, and boy, it's gonna be
all sunny skies on the flight home, kelling Row. As
we really really begin this post game show, we haven't
really fully begun it, but let's let's kind of dive
in and just get the opening reactions. I mean, you
just saw me. I was sitting on a chair with

(05:36):
my hood over my eyes, just kind of nearly an
ugly tears. I hate LAFC and this brings me so
much joy to end their season and move on to
the West Final. Your reaction to the incredible, incredible match
we just watched.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
Fly crap, holy crap, holy crap. No, it was great.

Speaker 6 (05:53):
I love seven Fries words there at the obviously such
a class action. Thinking Tommy's coach, he's thinking the teammate
and kind of I love his conversation with Paul Rothafay.
Hey man, let's not make it harder on herself. All right,
We've done the hard stuff, all right, Let's just get
through this. And if we're gonna get a star, we're
gonna get a star. I don't care how it comes.
But look, he easily. In my opinion, the whole field

(06:14):
everyone played well. You know, I don't think there was
a standout performance. And if it was a standout, it
was Stephen Fry. The amount of saves that he had
that were clinical saves, difficult saves and continuous. I mean,
he didn't it wasn't like he was bobbling it anywhere.
He made saves cleanly and then made sure that he wouldn't.

Speaker 5 (06:31):
Get a rebound. This guy was incredible.

Speaker 6 (06:34):
It's year after year, you see, we we MLS had
posted the safe, you know, the Toronto the safe. Yeah,
multiple times, and I'm going, you know what, I don't
love that. It's I don't like the omen of that.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
It's great.

Speaker 6 (06:44):
And then he comes out here and makes four of those.
He comes out here, makes four or five of those?

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 6 (06:50):
Like this guy just does It's like he's he does
an age. He's still as athletic. He's just I don't
get it. I'm gonna I'm gonna raise my hand here
back in May. I forget what game, maybe it was
in April, and and I had the audacity.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
I'm gonna raise my hand. And people are gonna call
me on that's just totally fine. I deserve it. I
had the audacity of saying, that's a that's another tough
game for Fry. Maybe we should maybe we should start
to think about, you know, getting getting Andrew Thomas and god,
I'm an idiot.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
Experience we talked about at the beginning, experience on this
field was what got us through.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
And we talked about the sacrifice.

Speaker 6 (07:27):
We talked about the discipline, the sacrifice, and he even
said it, you know, this formation fit us because we
were never one on one. They loved their players one
on one. We were never actually one on one. It
was always one on two, one on three. They had
the backup. The guys stayed in their positions, they stayed disciplined,
and for me, we sacrificed the attack until the last bit.
We sacrificed the attack. And and you know, credit to

(07:49):
the guys, they did what they needed to do. They
worked their butts off and he look, they find a
way to get a goal, and that goal being in
incredible finish. And we'll get to that in a second,
because we got We also have to apologize to mister
Jordan Morris. Why do we have to apologize to Jordan,
because Jordan Morris got a lot of flack from us
all year that he didn't score in big games. He

(08:09):
didn't score against the big teams. He only scored against
teams that were not in MLS playoff. We gave Jordan
Morris a.

Speaker 5 (08:17):
Lot of flack.

Speaker 6 (08:18):
Yeah, in the biggest game for this year, he shows up.
He shows up, and yes, it took him over ninety minutes,
but he showed up, and he showed up in front
of his family who flew out here.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Can we talk about what we just saw?

Speaker 5 (08:33):
By the way, absolutely, so.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Really really and I wanted you to continue, but really quick.
So Major League Soccer, I think it was at Apple TV.
After the game, they always interview players and they one
of the interviews was with Jordan Morris, and Morris of
course standing in front of the backdrop talking to the
broadcasters up in the booth. And as Jordan was doing

(08:57):
the interview, he's holding his ki in his arms, lo
THEO and then and then when the interview ends, you
just see him going, you know, walking back towards the
locker room, raising THEO up in the air over and
over and over again. And I mean that's He's gonna
remember that moment for the rest of his life. That

(09:18):
is one of the most beautiful moments you'll ever see
of Jordan with his son celebrating the win and celebrating
his game winning goal. Please but please continue. I just
wanted to touch on that moment.

Speaker 6 (09:29):
Like we we we gave Jordan a lot of flack,
and now he does it in front of you know,
his whole family, our our traveling fans. He does it
in the big stage, he does it on the you
know when we needed I think you know it's it's
a pretty special moment, especially from a kid who lives
and breathes Seattle. Yeah, yeah, he's he's been that hometown
hero for a long time now and he finally gets

(09:50):
to to do it and show his son that that
look at the on screen.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
We'll just see him. Yeah, little guy doesn't know where
he is, but darn it, and he loves to others.

Speaker 6 (10:02):
You gotta love it, you gotta love it. We're happy
for Jordan, We're happy for the team. Stephan obviously great performance,
but all around good performances from the guys.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
So much to talk about. The Sounders are officially advancing
to the Western Conference, Final. Now All Eyes turn two
tomorrow Minnesota United. They are here in Los Angeles to
face the LA Galaxy. If Minnesota wins, Seattle will host
Minnesota in the twenty twenty four Western Conference Final. If

(10:33):
the Galaxy win, We're coming right back down a week
from Apple to watch Sounders at LA Galaxy in that
version of the West Final. So I will mention if
Minnesota wins, by the way, and the game is at
lumin Field, tickets will go on sale Monday November twenty
fifth at one pm. Again Monday November twenty fifth, one pm.

(10:55):
If Minnesota wins, but All Eyes will go to tomorrow's
game between Minnesota and LA obviously go Loons. We will
take a break. We'll come back and continue the celebratory
postgame show. Sounders two LAFC one. In one hundred and
twenty two minutes and ten seconds, the Sounders get it done.

(11:18):
They end LAFC season there through to the West Final.
More next on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Welcome to the Sounders FC postmat show. Sounders FC Sucker
is brought to you by Providence, Swedish, official healthcare partner
of Seattle Sounders FC. The Sounders FC postmat show starts now.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
The Sounders are through to the West Final a two
to one win. After one hundred and twenty two minutes,
Jordan Morris has won it for the Sounders in the
one hundred and ninth minutes time for our elmend Queen
Casino Play of the Match, you can take a while
guess what it is.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
Paul gets whipped in by JP off the corner, headed
up by Sanchez.

Speaker 6 (12:03):
It comes rolled on bull bouncing around Jordan Morris back.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Of the goal.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Brilliant stripe by Jordan Morris.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
The Sounders players celebrate with the coaching staff and it
needed a bit of magic. The Sounders have been relentless
in this.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Game and now they find the second goal to put
them up LAFC one Sounders too relentless.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Indeed, we'll call it Danny. The Play of the match
is presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of
the Northwest, and Callen, I want to talk about, you know,
actually kind of dig into some some in depth things
specifically on that you know. A few seconds of play,
Georgie Manoonga, who comes on the field, forces a corner
kick on a long distance shot the corner, bounces around,

(12:50):
ends up with Jordan, who turns and puts it in
the back of the head. What do you see in
that entire sequence that impressed you from a number of levels.

Speaker 6 (12:57):
You know, when it comes to set pieces, you're not
always gonna scoring that first touch.

Speaker 5 (13:01):
You're not gonna score in the first header.

Speaker 6 (13:02):
It could be the second, It could be the ball
that comes back in after being cleared already. And that's
what happened. You know, Christian made sure that he was
gonna make just just keep it alive. The ball was
kept alive. Georgie was actually the one who's fighting with
Kai Kamara, who you know, didn't follow through at the
ball and it got touched wide to our main man,
Jordan Morris. And it's it's funny as his back was

(13:23):
to goal, his back was a goal. He had to
take a touch to his right foot to kind of
give himself some sense of getting it on frame. And
it wasn't even on frame. It was top bin curling
in out. I think it started he whipped his body around,
started out and kind of curled into that top bind
and Hugolaris had no chance. And this was a well
struck ball and he's maybe two yards past the sixth.

(13:46):
It was an incredible finish and not one that many
players can do. So it was it was about keeping
it relentless is a good way to put it, because
he just kept the ball, kept play alive, kept the
play alive, kept the play alive, and then something special.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Something special. Indeed, I mean Hugoleries, who's a legend French
national team, and of course Tottenham and you know, I
don't know who would have saved that shot by Jordan
Morris because it is in the back of the net
in the one hundred and ninth minute and that gives
the sounderds. But I mean to go, as great as
that was and as amazing as a moment and for Jordan,
the celebration and all that, Tonight's Toyer the man of

(14:19):
the match is of course Stephen Fry. Your local total
dooers are probed to present tonight's Man of the match
and so many moments in this game call and LAFC
we really did. I mean, we talked about the goals
of seating possession and trying to get LAFC on the
break and that gate LFC a lot of chances in
the specifically in the second half. First half, as we mentioned,
it was a little stale, but they got chance after

(14:41):
chance after chance, and no matter what angle was coming from,
Steph just kept finding a way to get himself just
able to.

Speaker 5 (14:48):
Block it off the line, even with deflections.

Speaker 6 (14:50):
There was two that had deflections on him and we're
kind of going away from where he was diving, and
he found a way for kicksaves or or finding a
way for his body to be in front of it.
And that's just a quality golf right who's been experienced
in many ways, but very similar to seven. Fry in
his interview, credited his teammates. There were so many countless
shot shots that were blocked by by defenders, by midfielder's

(15:12):
coming back. You know, like I said, there was never
a one on one. No one's worried about one on
one if I got beat, Oh no, because there was
always help there. And I think that was what I
You know, it keeps coming back to it. And I
wasn't sure about how I felt about the word relentless
coming through into this postseason, but you see it time
and time again. These guys are relentless. They're working, they're
they're understanding, they're giving up. They're sacrificing their own their

(15:35):
own positions, their own egos to say, oh I got
your back, and that is the that's a quality team.
That's a team that will make a championship. That is
one that I think you found Sounders in the past
to be so hard to beat, and they're finding their
stride now.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Absolutely right. Sorry, I'm a little bit distracted. So we
talked in pregame about how there's this falcon that LFC
hasn't flies around. I'm fairly certain the falcon just pooped
on its owner's shoe.

Speaker 6 (16:00):
I mean, I gave that great speech and you're talking
about a bird A little distracted from l e FC going, okay,
that issue right now?

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Uh all that to say, L A f C, that's
that's a that's a good metaphor for what happened tonight.
They had the one nothing. I mean, I came in
and my whole key. I've said it on the show
or earlier in the week on kJ R. I think
I said it on the pregame show. I said it
off the air all the time. The key was score first,
if LFC scores first. I was like, this is not

(16:30):
gonna work out. This is not gonna be good. And
you know, you know, pie in my face because l
a FC scored first, Sounders got an own goal just
about what nine minutes later in Obed Vargas crossed that,
you know, Maxim Chaneau is going to be thinking about
the entirety of the off season, just the misheit of
the year for him and of all of l a FC. Uh.

(16:53):
And then it goes one to one into the one
hundred and ninth Jordan scores and we are two to
one up heading to the final. Sounder's FC Soccer is
presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC.
We'll have more to get to. Well, we can't really
preview the West Final yet. We don't know if it's
gonna be Minnesota United at home or on the road
against the LA Galaxy. We know it'll be next weekend,

(17:14):
so we don't have a lot to previ you there,
but we do have more to talk about with this
dramatic two want to win. It's all smiles and all
celebratory for the folks in the Rave Green leaving LA
here tonight. We'll continue talking about it next on Sports
Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Now back to Seattle Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Oh, I forgot all about taking care of business. I
we switched up the postgame show because we had to
quickly get back for Stephen Fryan, and I forgot we
hadn't heard this baby yet. Oh yeah, nothing like a
playoff win taking care of business. Sounders are through to
the West Final two one win at LAFC and then,

(18:05):
just like in twenty nineteen, Seattle has ended lafc's season.
But we are hoping that just like twenty nineteen, the
Sounders will take home a trophy. They will have to
get through either Minnesota United at home or on the
road against the LA Galaxy. That game is tomorrow. All
eyes will be on that to figure out where Seattle

(18:26):
will be playing next weekend in the West Final. I'll
let you know that the Sounders of one today and
you get to win tomorrow. Down to the McDonald's app
and redeem your free Nick Chicken tomorrow with any purchase
of two dollars or more at your locally owned and
operated McDonald's restaurants. Down to the McDonald's up today and
check out the deals waiting for you, Callen as we
wrapped the postgame show, and really we can't preview the

(18:47):
West Final because we don't know who's against, So we'll
do that on the Sounders Weekly Show on Tuesday on
KJR at seven pm. But I do want to talk
a little bit more about this game and dig into
a couple more specifics. And the first thing is Obed Vargain.
Because Obed Vargas in this rotated formation that they had
because Rothrock was out, hecaues knew who was out, you
had to put And by the way, we beat LAFC

(19:09):
without new Who and without Paul Rothrock. That's impressive on
its own in front. But Obed Vargus then has to
go into the midfield in a slightly different spot than
he's accustomed to, and I thought he played an outstanding game.
What do you see specifically from number eighteen tonight?

Speaker 6 (19:26):
You know, the first one they came to mind when
I was watching him play, especially in the second half,
was maturity.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
I mean, this guy was gliding through things.

Speaker 6 (19:33):
He made sure he's checking his shoulders, He had some
really good touches just to get himself out of pressure.
And in the midfield, it's not easy. You have people
around you at all times. It's a little easier when
Jerud is upfront and he's not really tracking back, but
he had guys around him and he's finding ways to
get out. I mean, he was a play in the
first half. I remember he was getting held back by
two guys. He split two defenders, Jimmy one of them,

(19:55):
and then went to the other side. I'm like, this guy,
he's playing like he's a forty year old vet. It's incredible,
with the body of a twenty year old. It sounds great.
I wish I still had that, but no, he had
a mature game, and like we talked about the discipline
and sacrifice, and he was one of those guys. And
even when he got moved out to the left back
a little bit and then back in the middle. It's
not easy to do changing those positions. But he was

(20:17):
good defensively, and then he made sure to be calm
on the ball to slow things down when we did
have a chance to kind of keep some sense of possession,
whether it be just beating a player and getting a foul,
being a player and connecting a pass, those little things
are what count when you've been defending for the last
fifteen minutes.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
Yeah, before he went to the Mexican national team and
got called up to the senior team just recently, he
was already looking very good. I just feel like he's
at a different level now after coming back from the now.
He is playing out of his mind right now, and
him alongside a Christian who I also want to ask
you about, because Christian, we said it and he was
your player to watch, and we you said, he's gonna

(20:55):
do the dirty work. He's not gonna show up on
the statute, He's gonna get the job done.

Speaker 6 (20:59):
And it's exactly what you said is what he did tonight.
It was look, he ran around this whole blade of
this whole field. He's touched every very glass. When you're
in the overtime, you saw him cramping up a bit.
It's because he works so darn hard and I've played
through a cramp before and is not easy, and I
know he was feeling it kind of all the way
up through his legs.

Speaker 5 (21:18):
You can see him get.

Speaker 6 (21:19):
A little bit of water and the next the next play,
he had to go one on one against Bowanga and
he shut him down, and like that is that is
the mister Sounder, that is the Christian roll down we
all want to see and love.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
And you put him next to you.

Speaker 6 (21:30):
At that time, he was playing right back for his
brother Alex who got subbed out. But you put him
next to in Ovid Vargas and that midfield is is dangerous.
That is that's one of the best two holding you
could say, six to eight midfielders that the league has
ever seen.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
It's tremendous, tremendous, tremendous. Uh. Well, listen, we're gonna have
Tuesday seven pm right here on ninety three point three
kJ RFM Sounders Weekly to not only continue talking about
this but preview the West Final. But we got to
catch a flight back home, and it's going to be
a happy flight. I'll say to everybody here who may
be an LAFC fan who's still leaving the building, enjoy

(22:06):
your Open Cup, Enjoy what you've done this season. But
your season is over. And for the Sounders, we march on.
We march relentless into the West Final. We will determine
whether we host Minnesota or we're at the LA Galaxy.
We'll all eyes will be watching that tomorrow night. I
want to thank everybody with tonight's broadcast. A fantastic call

(22:28):
tonight from Danny Jackson, Pete Fewing and Michelle Ludka. They
were excellent here tonight and we have a great job
Callen Rowe here alongside me. Also phenomenal to work with
him here tonight. Kiley Dunning is our broadcast producer. We
have Anderwshurst back in the studio pressing all the right buttons,
and of course we have Rylan here in Los Angeles,

(22:49):
our engineer in La tonight. Thank you to our entire crew,
and thanks to all of you for staying tuned all
the way from pregame starting at seven to right now now.
It has been an absolute joy to one Sounders win
West Final ahead. This team is moving on. We'll talk
to you next weekend. We'll talk to you on Tuesday.

(23:11):
Have a very happy Sunday, everybody, and Fox Sports Radio
is coming up next.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
You've been listening to the Sounders FC postmatch show. Sounders
FC Soucker is brought to you by Provident, Swedish official
