Speaker 1 (00:00):
It has not been a great start for Seattle. And
then Victor Robles gets hurt yesterday making just an incredible catch.
It sucks when someone gets hurt on it like that.
It's a bumber. But you know, listen, especially when you
didn't have to make the catch. Well that aside, you're
not going to tell a point.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
No, no, I'm not, but it's just like it's and then
the next pitch they win it like so literally worst
case scenario.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
They were lucky to be there in the first place.
I mean a Rose Raina got the base hit. You know,
they're done to the last strike and he gets the
big double and good for him, but it was it
just this was the weirdest thing. And we'll talk to
Chris and Nate about this about what we saw this.
The frustration is, you're not losing games two to one either, No,
you're scoring runs. You scored some runs and still lost
even the worst Yeah, Friday was and listen, that was

(00:44):
their opening day. They were playing with a ton of emotion.
You had a spot starter, a spot starter that was
the game you just kind of throw away. Yeah, the
next two you hope to get and you don't, and
you know, and The odd thing with them is it
feels like and and you Anders asked us on a
group chat last night, like, how many maybe Chris has

(01:06):
found this since? Because obviously Andrews didn't want to you know,
even though he hosts Stove and Manriers weekly, didn't want
to do didn't want to do the heavy lifting yourself.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
I asked, if there's a way to do it. I
don't know if there is, to be honest.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Because the question is, doesn't it feel like the Manders
are scoring all the runs on home runs? M h.
And it feels like they are scoring a lot of
their a high percentage of their runs on home runs,
which is fine. Is it sustainable? A couple of solos
and here, yeah, but here's the problem, Like when you
look at like it, like I wish you could just say, God,
they're losing all these games two to one, three to two.

(01:40):
But that wasn't the case this weekend because we would
expect that because his offense is supposed to be awful. Well,
now the bullpen, you know, gives up a little bit
by the way, so Sado gets sent down to Takhoma. Uh,
he kind of He's the first of the scapegoats there
but he hasn't been good at all. He's been awful,
So you know, like they kind of need him a
little bit. Maybe as the ear goes on, I would

(02:01):
think so. I like that idea of go down, get right. Yeah,
but they got so many wrongs right now that it's
it's really frustrating. And if we're just being really honest again,
why is this well they did what? Oh, let me
take the other part of it before I get to
the bigger picture, the third basement that can't throw across

(02:22):
the diamond and now can't playhim back to back games
because wait for it, he's killing the ball at the plate.
But he probably should just be a full time DH,
and that's Jorge Polanco. But they got a bunch of
guys that should be full time dhs or at least
most of the time DHS. And so now you're pressed
back into putting Dylan Moore in on kind of an

(02:44):
everyday basis and guy that looks good in spurts. But
most people believe that are baseball people. He's not an
everyday guy. And let's just go back to what happened.
They ran back last year's team and said let's try
it all over again without any any improvements at all
to the I mean they made because you can't give

(03:05):
them any credit for Polanco, so they made no improvements
to the roster outside of Solano. Who is he still
hitless this year?

Speaker 3 (03:14):
No?

Speaker 1 (03:14):
He has one hit? Okay he was last I checked,
he was hitless. Yes, actually so yeah, there's one hit.
Really that much better than no hits if you had
more than two or three pads.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Barrels.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Hasn't barreled up a ball yet? No, So here we are, here,
we are with the team. Remind you again it's Master's Week.
We got the Major Golf Challenge. It's available if you
go to ninety three three k YAR dot com. It's
all explained there. Sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Golf Academy,
Gamble Sands and the Bing Classic. Again go to nine
three three KJR dot com. We'll have Masters coverage later
on this week, some great prizes as well. You fill

(03:53):
it out. It's all explained there. I'm not gonna try
to do it on the air because we fillip in
segment here. So but if if you're a golf fan
and you like golf, go check it out in nine
three three k TER dot com being thanks again, Pacilican,
Northwest Golf A County, Gamble Sands, and Point Classic. I like,
there we go, we'll go fill it out. Well, you're
not eligible, it doesn't matter, Okay, I know, I can't wait.
You're not You're not eligible. Okay. Alexander Vetchkin will touch

(04:15):
it on that History Made Final four Tonight features Kelvin
Samson and the Houston Cougers taking on the Gators of Florida.
We'll check in with Gary later this week. Gary Parrish,
Was it a foul? Was it not a foul at
the end?

Speaker 5 (04:31):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (04:32):
My gosh, the Cooper flag one? Absolutely not. I watched
that like thirty times. What do you think, Anders? I
think it's probably just as definitive, which I like being
definitive because I can't. I'll be honest with you. I'm
not sure he was wrapped up beforehand. If anything that
was a foul on him could have.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Been a hook and hold on the other Yes, to
be honest, I think it probably is a foul on
the shot. But I am a fan of them not
calling those at the end of the games.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
If you're not gonna call it, if you're gonna call
it on don't call it on either.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Well then I would, I think that. But the bigger
issue is you can't have like two field goals in
the final thirteen or fourteen. Yeah, like that's just it.
That's not the reason they lost. Yeah, they You know,
when when someone loses a game like that, all right,
let's take it back. When someone wins a game like that,
someone also has to do a lot to lose that game,

(05:21):
because really, you're up by six with thirty seconds ago,
that game's over. Hell, they gave you a gift with
a technical foul in the inbounds, like they gave you
a gift on that one. They gave you an extra
point right there by that one. So the TV numbers
that were really big, Cinderella doesn't matter as far as viewership,
at least it hasn't yet. The only thing with that,

(05:43):
and I'll counter something Gary said the other day, like
Duke will matter. Not having Duke in it tonight will matter. Yes,
Like Duke is a huge, huge draw, more so than
Houston and Florida are. My side note is this, I
gotta check. Let me check one thing here, and I
and the any the NHL employee is going to be

(06:04):
a little careful here, but I will, but I will,
but I will ask, I will say this to my end. No, no, okay, Well,
the NBA does have two games tonight, not quite, but
that's that at least that's better than the NHL. What
are we doing? Like what like it's got a ton

(06:25):
of games tonight on Monday. What I know, you're trying
to get everything in, but they here's this is this
is where the NHL continues to baffle me a league
that wants to grow and needs to grow. They played
two games on the Wednesday before the tournament started, the

(06:45):
Thursday that the tournament started, and opening day because I
was opening day too, right, Yes, that Thursday, opening day,
first day of the tournament. Tournament. They they played. They
played a full schedule, fourteen games. Like I don't understand, NHL,

(07:06):
I love you, What what are we doing here? Like
like why do we want to let's see? What do
they Maybe they don't have that, but one too? They
got a bunch. No, it was a lot. It was
a full slate tonight today on five. So there's ten
teams in action five from mondays a lot And I'll

(07:28):
ask you and again they're playing and if it was
in Canadian cities only that'd be fine. But like Edmonton
at LA or at Edmonton at Anaheim, Seattle at LA,
Calgary at San Jose. So all three California teams are
playing tonight at home. The Rangers are playing tonight at home.
Certain days you just take a step back.

Speaker 6 (07:52):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Maybe they're just not counter. I want this league to
do better than it is. I wanted to become more
than there's the just kind of the afterthought fourth League
and they just need help. They need some help, okay ah,
And maybe I'm just pissed because I have to work tonight.
You can't watch the game. Probably have something to do it.
I mean, one phone, one monitor. We are going to Mollywop,

(08:13):
so can I move? The boys are in coming up next.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Emerald City Spectrum with Christopher Crawford and.

Speaker 8 (08:57):
Hurst.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Oh yeah, you're there too. Aren't you busy doing research?
Aren't you researching nothing?

Speaker 6 (09:05):
He forgot.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
I'm literally going game by game how any runs the
Maria's scored, and then how many came from the home runs?

Speaker 1 (09:11):
So I don't know if there's a quicker way to
do it. Well, just do you go game by game.
We'll check that when you get it way back. All right, Okay,
we are here today. We are gathered here today. God
did we need to play funeral for a friend already?
From Elton John?

Speaker 6 (09:28):
God?

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Are we at that point yet? We are here today,
ladies and gentlemen, from Mollie Wop, brought to you by

I'm it's just tell people as we're in the break,
we do this where we can see each other.

Speaker 6 (10:00):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
So Chris sets up a little viewing party for us
on the old internet interweb, and everyone has their names
in there. I put gokooks today, not because of Wazoo.
You know, Houston Cougar's Calvin Sampson. Go Kook's nice. And
I was the first one in the little room here.
And then all of a sudden, I see a name
pop up and Christopher Crawford it pops up and Nathan Bishop.
Do you like what Crawford's name is today?

Speaker 6 (10:23):
Ronnie?

Speaker 4 (10:24):
I feel like we're all going through enough already on
Monday that I don't need to read the name Ronnie
Fouch on my computer screen. But Chris chose violence, and
he did, he did allowed to do that.

Speaker 9 (10:38):
I look, he got, he got a raw job. I'm
sure Ronnie FOUPs would have been a great quarterback if
he would have had better coaching. And I think he
ended up at Indiana State after Washington, which is uh,
you know, today's day and age, that's not a huge
surprise transfer portal stuff, But back then, the demotion from
worst college football team anyone will ever see.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Too to an FCS school, by the way, which is
an FCS school, Ronnie Ronnie Fouch, Kevin La Pena battles.
Those those are the days. Okay, can real quick?

Speaker 9 (11:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (11:14):
Kelvin Sampson that there's no hard feelings with Cougar fans
with him, has been that long or was it just
you know that type of thing?

Speaker 1 (11:20):
No, I think I think a couple of things. One,
you know, back then, like you know, George Raveling had
built the program up to a really strong point. Levin's
Len Stevens tore it down, uh and destroyed it and
Kelvin came in and rebuilt it very Tony Bennett like,
and you know, a tournament team have good players always

(11:41):
and has never forgotten where he's from Montana Tech and
then Pullman and he references all the time. I Mean,
people kind of made a big deal about him going
after the reporter for Gonzaga the other day, but I
I a reporter called it Gonzaga, and I thought, you know,
with Kelvin, he remembers where he's from, and he's a
Hall of Fame coach. He's not in there yet in

(12:02):
the Natesmith but he will be win or loose, and
I he will be and no, I think he's got
Cougar fans have very fond memories of him. It's not right, Yeah,
it's it's you know, it's weird. Every guy leaves and
it feels different, right when people leave you, Like I
would say, it's closer to Kailin to Bore than it
is to anything else, like for us, right, you know,

(12:22):
like I think kleen boards still people still like him
out here and understand why you left, and we understand
why Kelvin left. So anyway, yeah, so we'll see what
happens to saying okay, all right, gentlemen, we always do
this opening statements. I'm gonna just for reference sake. Last week,
I said, hey, what's a good week, guys, and both
of you said four and two week would be really good.
They fell three wins short of the four and two

(12:43):
one in five instead. When it was all said and done,
coming off a sweep at the hands of the San
Francisco Giants, Nathan Bishop fire Away.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
Oh, total disaster. I have absolutely no idea where we
go from here. Wait, we're talking about the marriages. Talk
about something else. Okay, So I think that the uh
you know, watching this team play baseball. The thing I
was struck about this week was this team looks exactly.
They still look so much like twenty twenty three and

(13:12):
twenty twenty four to me as far as the overall talent,
I'm really frustrated with the record. But you know, we've
been doing this show long enough. This team never gets
off to a good start. There have been three Jerry
to Poto teams that have had on above five hundred record.
After ten games. They've been four and six the last
two years. I haven't really seen anything on the field
that makes me think that they're like noticeably worse than

(13:34):
they have been either of the last two years. Now,
what's really discouraging is that they've had such an opportunity
to be five and five, six and four in this
past week. They were in a lot of these games.
The game on Friday, especially that ten to nine crazy
game with the bullpen day I think is gonna be
one of those games where if this team does end
up falling short of the playoffs, we're going to look
back and be like, my gosh, they really they really

(13:56):
blew it there. But I think the thing is this
is only a blip on the radar unless we're having
this conversation in a week and they've gone two and
four or worse again because with the schedule, and we'll
talk about it at the end of the segment, I know,
but with the schedule coming up and the teams are
playing this week, they can't afford to do this again.
They've run out of their slack already basically, and they're

(14:18):
now in a position where they.

Speaker 9 (14:20):
Have to play better right now. Chris, Yeah, so I
definitely brought up Ronnie Fouch and Calvin Sampson in part
because I would rather talk about anything than the Seattle
Mariner baseball team. It's just frustrating to see these starts
and people can tell me all they want how much
they don't matter, and how it's the first quarter and

(14:43):
you can't win a game in the first ten game
or can't make the playoffs from the first ten games.
But we've seen this team miss the postseason by such
a thin margin the last two years. It does matter,
and you will look back. I'm so glad Nathan brought
it up. I will remember Friday if this team doesn't
make the postseason, particularly if they don't make the postseason
by one game because you sacrifice to win. You gave

(15:06):
up a chance for a win for maybe a great benefit.
It might be in the long term a great decision
they made, but they gave up that chance to win
a game, and then losing the next two amplifies that
decision to give up that chance to win. Friday it
was not my favorite time to be a Seattle Mariner fan.
There were some encouraging stuff. It's great to see Julio
driving the baseball three home runs already. He didn't hit

(15:28):
his third home run last year until Memorial Day weekend,
so it's great to see that that's happening. Great to
see Big Dumper drive the baseball and have a big
game as well. But another sweep or another sweep, a
sweep that leads to you being in a position where
you have to play ketchup again, and we've seen this
team tire when they have to play ketch up.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Well, let me stay with you, Chris, because that brings
up and for people that don't know you're referencing Friday,
they go to a bullpen start, basically a call up start,
and with the other Luis Castile against Justin Verlander in
the home opener Opening Day for the Giants, and at
home Verlander gets chased early. So walk me through the decision.

(16:11):
What you think went into it. I gotta think it's
more than a Dan Wilson decision. But walk me through that,
walk our listeners through that who might have missed what happened.

Speaker 9 (16:18):
So for those who missed it, the Mariners made the
decision to call up Luis F. Castillo to make his
first MLB start. And while I didn't hear it specifically,
and they may have said it specifically and I just
missed it, I choose not to listen to this front
office whenever I don't have to. The reasons given were
that you wanted to give Brian wu and Bryce Miller

(16:40):
an extra day off, and that Luis Castillo was on
turn so he had already made a start, and he
pitched pretty well for Tacoma five and two thirds innings
of two run baseball. But the decision was made to
have those guys get an extra day off, and also
it lines up Louis or lines up the good lad
Louis Castillo and Logan Gilbert to pitch the first two
games of this series against the Astros. And that's fine.

(17:03):
Except for the fact that Luis e. F Castillo was terrible.
There's a reason. He's a thirty year old journeyman who
has never made an MLB start until Thursday, and he
was very fortunate to give up those three runs. And
I can't help but look at that game and note
if Bryce Miller, who wasn't great on Saturday, you know,
he gave up four runs and five and two thirds innings.

(17:25):
You get Bryce Miller pitching that game, you win that game.
You get Bryce Miller pitching that game. You win that
game one hundred percent because they were gonna hit Justin Verlander.
Justin Verlander's wash. Justin Verlander is absolutely done as a
quality starting pitching the pitcher they were going to get theirs.
So to give up that chance for a win because

(17:45):
you wanted to give that extra day And look, I'm
all for protecting arms. I think it's really important. Bryce
Miller and Brian wu are massive, massive parts of the
long term part of this organization. But sacrificing a win sucks,
and sacrificing a win in a series that you get
swept and sucks even more.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Nathan fire Away, they're just too cute.

Speaker 4 (18:05):
I mean, It's the same kind of thing that we've
seen them do over and over again, where they're constantly,
constantly hedging their long term benefit as opposed to what's
right in front of their face. And they do it
in small ways, they do it in big ways over
and over and over again, and you just hope that
that one on Friday. Like to Chris's point, if if
they they can't obviously lose any more starting pitch. It's
shocking how quickly the stress tests on this rotation gets

(18:29):
with one starting pitcher on the IL. I mean immediately
the other four guys have to be so great, and
it is really really important to keep these guys healthy.
And if they do keep them healthy for the rest
of this season, and you know, the team starts playing better,
they go on to win the American League West. Great,
they win that argument, But it's the same exact process
that has been driving me and a lot of the

(18:49):
fan base absolutely bananas for going on four or five
years now.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Simply Seattle brings us the molliwop guys every Monday, malliwap
Monday by to way. Simply Seattle. Simply Seattle die Molliwop
fifteen at check out for your discount code. Go check
out the sale that got going on right now and
use that Molliwap fifteen to check out. Chris, you watch
in your sleep. You watch more baseball than I probably
have my life. So I'm gonna lean on you a
little bit here, and then Nathan you can jump in.

(19:16):
Is there any way you can look at Dan Wilson
and judge him as a manager?

Speaker 9 (19:19):
Yet? Yep, yep, and it's now. What you can't do
is make a final decision on whether or not Dan
Wilson will or won't be a good manager. But you
can judge what you've seen so far over forty five games,
and there is a lot of questionable decisions. There have
been some. Even the Mariner broadcast, which is as team

(19:41):
friendly as any broadcast there is, said, what are you
doing not having gabes Fire ready to pitch on Friday?
Like gabes Fire was getting hot right as those lefties
were coming up in a huge situation. Even the announcer
who'll link nameless was like, I don't get this. When
they're criticizing a decision from your manager, that's saying something

(20:01):
because they go out of their way to make sure
that they're not going to be too harsh on this team.
There have been some real questionable decisions with pinch hitting.
There have been definitely some question marks with the bullpen. Look,
the Mariners are helping Dan Wilson with this stuff, just
like every other MLB team. In twenty twenty five minutes,
you are seeing a ton of decisions being made before

(20:23):
games of when guys are going to be used. But
I think the moment has gotten too big for Wilson
in a few of these games. And I just have
to be completely honest, I have not been even kind
of impressed with what I've seen so far.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Nathan.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
I mean that checks out right. I mean I don't
want to get two wound up. Has been ten games.
The team did play well for him in a short
sample size down the stretch when they really had nothing
to lose at that point and they were just going
for broke. Sure, but I maintain that this is not
a shot at Dan Wilson. Every single human being that
I've ever talked to that has interacted with Dan Wilson

(20:57):
as a human being says that he is an incredibly
good not just a nice a good man. Yeah, I
don't want to besmirch him. I don't want to be
a jerk. It doesn't make any sense that he is
the manager of this team. I'm sorry, it just does not.
He had no managerial experience coming into this. There's no reason,

(21:18):
there's no reason, given the stakes in play here, to
believe with any sort of certitude that he would be
an upgrade over Scott's Service. And Scott Servis, who ended up,
in my opinion, being a pretty good major league manager,
also struggle. Even if I'm sorry, I'm conflating points. Even
if Dan Wilson ends up being a good manager, it's
not going to be right now. Scott's Service was not

(21:39):
a good manager in twenty sixteen and probably not really
in twenty seventeen either. It takes a long time to
get aptitude at this.

Speaker 9 (21:47):
I just wanted to say something real quick too, and
I hate doing this, but I'm gonna give Anders a compliment.
He said something in the group chat that Jessmon isn't
allowed to be in for legal reasons.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
That yes, it is legal.

Speaker 9 (22:02):
Scott Service did a great job of avoiding this type
of stuff, like avoiding the the collapse. Let's find out
if Dan Wilson can avoid the collapse, because how they've
played so far is collapse adjacent. So let's see how
this next week goes. Because for all of the flaws
of Scott's service as a manager, he was able to

(22:24):
keep that clubhouse intact until he completely lost it at
the end. But for the overwhelming majority of his time,
he kept that clubhouse intact and they avoided these type
of just disaster moments. Let's see if Dan Wilson can
do that.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
All right, let me let me let me just just
a real quick thought. Uh, Nathan'll start with you, just
real quick up starting pitching. We're okay with everything so far,
I mean, outside of the number five starter, what it
ends up being.

Speaker 4 (22:49):
Yeah, I think that they look as advertised. They look
like a really good rotation. I think the fact that
they're three and seven shows again just how little margin
there is. Because while they have been very good, we
saw that stretch last year and I'm going to butcher
the actual stats for where they went some absurd number
of days in a row throwing quality starts. Right, we
haven't seen that level of dominance from them yet, and

(23:10):
it's reflective in the team's record. It's they're pitching just fine.
They look great and the team's not winning because what
they're not being is otherworldly good. Other than Logan Gilbert's
start on opening Day and the seven innings that Louis Castillo,
the normal Louis Castillo pitched in his second start, I
think are the only two starts thus far this year
you could say we're exceptional and the rest have been fine.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
The bullpen, Chris, yeah, I have been very.

Speaker 9 (23:41):
Unimpressed with what I've seen from this bullpen. Now, Gregory
Santo's kind of, you know what the bad last night,
but I think he's looked okay. Andres Munios has looked fine,
But boy, are you relying on Andres Munios. And by
the way, going back to Friday, I get they want
to avoid the multi inning stuff with Andres Munios because
they used it so much last year, But not having

(24:02):
him pitched the tenth inning of that game and going
to Carlos Vargas instead is sacrificing a win. It is
saying that we care more about the long term plan
of this team and care more about and again, I'm
okay with the sack, the the Andres Munioz portion of it.
I want Audres Munias to stay healthy and to live
a wonderful life and to be totally healthy and have

(24:24):
the longest career possible. But it sucks to give up wins.
And when you bring in Carlos Vargas to close games
against one of the best teams in baseball over the
first ten games, that's a rough decision. The rest of
this bullpen looks average at best to me and Kit,
Well soon Matt Brash. They really need I say, how
close are Brash and Taylor. That's a good question. They're

(24:47):
hoping for Matt Brash at the end of April. I
haven't seen a lot of updates on Troy Taylor. Doesn't
sound like it's going to be a season ending thing
or anything like that. But both of those guys are massive,
massive upgrades to what they've gotten so far.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Rowdy Teles is one for fifteen, Donovan Solano is one
for fourteen, Mitch Garver is two for sixteen. Randy Arozarina,
despite the odd heroics here and there, is five for
forty three at the plate this year with he does
have seven walks, so at least is on base percentages. Well,

(25:23):
it's not still bad. It's two seventy nine. Still not good.
Chris your Son not good hitting one forty eight, Ryan
Bliss hitting one seventy nine, Luke Rayley hitting even two hundred.
Right now, Juel's hitting two sixteen and cows two twenty two.
But they've had some pop in their bad and they're
providing run support forty. So you kind of live with
what that's going to happen there. Offensively, Chris, what's good?

(25:45):
What's bad?

Speaker 9 (25:48):
Like I said in the opener, it's great to see
Julio Rodriguez driving the baseball. Now, there was a clear,
concerted effort this spring to have him drive the baseball.
I'm sure still going a little bit nuts watching him
flail at some sliders and take some pitches that honestly
he should molly wop. But I've been really encouraged by
what I've seen there other than that often Rye Poloco

(26:10):
and of course we have the.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
We'll get to that. Yeah, should he just be your DH?

Speaker 9 (26:14):
Do he just got your DH? So I think we
have to talk about the Victor Robless situation, and if
that Victor Roubless situation, wait.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
Time out, Let's do this time out. We're gonna do this.
We gonna take a break because because you know what,
This is one of those things I thought, can we
get through in twenty minutes? No, No, nope, we can't.
We can't because we've got the Jorge Polanco. Is he
a position player or not questioned to have? And then
we've got to talk about your right fielder and if
he's hurt, God help us. What's going to happen at

(26:43):
that point in your lead off?

Speaker 9 (26:44):
Guy?

Speaker 1 (26:45):
Uh, that's Ronnie Fouch. We're in the green hat that
I'm seeing today. Sorry, Nathan, Sorry Nathan. I I like
Husky on Husky Crime. Myself, I thoroughly enjoyed. Yeah, I've done.
I'm thoroughly enjoyed. So I appreciate that today be.

Speaker 9 (27:01):
Surprised based on how this show has gone over the
last four years. Have some self deprecation.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
Man that not stunned at all and not in the lease.
All right, we'll continue. And Andrews Holanders has the numbers
in terms of percentage of runs being scored strictly by
the long ball. We'll do that coming up next.

Speaker 7 (27:20):
You're listening to the exclusive home of the Huskies, the
Kracking and March Madness. Now back to Ian Furnesz, proudly
brought to you by snow Colney Casino on Sports Radio
ninety three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
All right to Justin Hollander, Mariner man, general manager, will
meet with the mediing about forty five minutes. Jess is
on our way down there, so we'll get the latest
from her as soon as we hear from Hollander updates
on Brash Taylor, but specifically Victor Robless. Hopefully at that
time the Mollywap guys are here by to my simply
sayle simply saddle dot com Molliwap fifteen to check out.
All right, Chris, let's go back down the road again.

(27:56):
Not knowing right now what Let's just assume Rollbless is out.
He's going to be out for a while, There's no
doubt about that. You don't get carted off and you know,
miss one game, So whether it's a week or an
extended period of time, what are your options?

Speaker 9 (28:09):
Unless you're Paul Pierce, then you get carted off and you.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Can that's a good point. Yeah, yes, or a soccer player.

Speaker 9 (28:14):
Assuming whoa, whoa.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
There, it's a factual statement. I'm not I like soccer,
but that's just the way it works.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
You're very right, you are you are correct, sir, you
are correct, Yes, unnecessary?

Speaker 9 (28:28):
What are we talking about again? So, assuming a Rode
Blaze is out, it seems pretty obvious who you put
in right field against uh, right handed pitching. You move
Luke Rayley there, and Luke Rayley is a perfectly cromulent
corner outfielder. But then everything else becomes a question mark,
because do you like Donovan Solano every day hit first base?

(28:49):
Based on what you've seen so far, it's been pretty
darn ugly. He did have a good spring, but he
hasn't looked very good with the play. He looked so
relieved by the way when that hit finally dropped, he
looked like he had just scored the game winner. And
then you know, there's some question marks about DH and
whether Jorge Polanco needs to be that full time DH.

(29:10):
It is worth pointing out, and we talked about this
during the break, that the guy who went and played
first base when Roblos got hurt was Jorge Polaco. They
didn't move him to third base, they moved him to
first base. I think Jorge Polanco would be a perfectly
fine first baseman, and in fact it might be ideal
because he doesn't have to throw and we don't have
to watch those bouncers come through. And who knows when

(29:31):
that arm strength is going to come back. It was
never great in the first place, but who knows when
he's going to have that arm strength. Ultimately, the big
question to me is right field, I think is set.
You're gonna have I think Dylan Moore play right field
against left handed pitching, and you're gonna have uh Raley
against our vice versa. You're gonna have Dylan Moore against
left handed pitching, and you're gonna have Luke Raley against

(29:52):
Righty's the question mark mcums where who's in that other spot?
Are they willing to give Ben Williamson a shot? Are
they willing to give Tyler Locke shot? It's a big
question mark, and it's a massive loss because as bad
as Robla's approach has been at the plate, he's still
been one of their most effective hitters. And there's no
denying the spark he provided and the defense that he

(30:13):
provided as well. What a terrific catch. It's a really,
really big loss.

Speaker 4 (30:18):
Jason, I think what this does, and I want to
echo what Chris said about the it's just such a
bummer to see guy get it hurt like that, especially
in the circumstances where he sacrificed. All we ask his
fans is that guy's care and that they try to
win the game as much as they can, And that's
exactly what Roblest did. So for him to get hurt
that way is a real shame. But I think what
this is doing is it's accelerating the kinds of roster

(30:40):
decisions that were coming down the road this season. No
matter what, they're going to really quickly have to start
making choices about guys like Rowdy Talez, What is Donovan
Solano going to be here? These kinds of Brian Bliss,
How long is he going to be on this roster?
These kinds of guys. This kind of first roster shakeout
was going to come at some point this summer, and
now I feel like it's going to be accelerated. The

(31:00):
question of if and when Cole Young, if Ben Williamson,
if and when Tyler Locklear. That's all, like Chris said,
it's going to be now potentially this week, as opposed
to in an ideal world for the Mariner, it's probably
closer to that May June window that entire turnover of
if these guys are not performing, these veteran guys that
are just kind of taking up space on the roster,
they're gonna have to go and we're gonna have to

(31:21):
get this new generation of younger guys in here to
see what we got.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
Well, the political thing Chris kind of does worry me
a little bit. So you know, for teams played ten games,
he's he's played in six and he would have only
played in five except for they had to come in
late yesterday, right, so right, and you know, obviously it's
not playing back to back games, and they're very careful
with him, but god, when he is playing, he's carrying
this offense. So like, yeah, you need him in there.

(31:45):
You've got to find a way to get him in there.
And it's pretty obvious just the difference watch him play
third base and just what did you see this weekend
when Chapman's playing third base for the Oh yeah, like
a guy that has an absolute cannon Like I mean,
just the difference is striking. It's it's a difference between
two or three hits a game, probably, right, Yeah.

Speaker 9 (32:05):
I mean that's a huge thing. And with unfortunately JP
Crawford does not have a ton of range moving to
his left to right either, So you want that quality
third baseman to help in that regard, and boys Ben Williamson,
that guy like Ben Williamson might be the best defensive
infielder in TRIAA right now, Like there is a chance
that regardless of position, he might be that guy. And

(32:27):
you know, he's a guy who could probably give you
innings at shortstop if you absolutely needed it. It would
be ideal if he played third base because he doesn't
have quite that type of range, but he's that good
of defensive player, and Polonko is just not Polanco was
never that guy. There's a reason why he's not playing
second base, like there is that there's an absolute concern

(32:48):
to come from not just what we've seen in twenty
twenty five, but over his entire career and in particular
the twenty twenty four season with Seattle. I do want
to give a shout out to Ryan Bliss, though his
defense at second base has been spicked like it's the
best defense I've seen from second basement since Robbie Canot,
which is damning with faint praise a little bit, but
he does deserve some credit. I've been a little bit

(33:09):
encouraged with what I've seen with Bliss from the bat,
I think he's got to become a little bit more assertive.
Maybe you're looking to walk a little bit too much
up there, but I do like the speed he brings.
I do love the energy he brings, and I certainly
love the defense he's provided.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Nathan, why do you get so surly every time the
name Ben Williams is brought up by Chris?

Speaker 4 (33:26):
I have a hard time, as a Seattle Mariners fan
getting excited about guys who don't hit, because if I've
watched this team play a lot of baseball games over
the last few years, and I'd sure like some baseball
players a hit. And in fact, I think the part
of the problem here is that we don't have a
single truly great hitter on the Seattle Mariners. And I

(33:47):
would argue they haven't had a truly great hitter on
the Seattle Mariners since Nelson Cruz was here, and so
I don't expect Ben Williamson to be great. But we're
talking about a guy here who has hit five professional
home run, one of them was inside the park. He's
playing third base, which is a position that you generally

(34:07):
want to get thump from and a lineup that doesn't
have a lot of thump coming from otherwise non traditional positions.
I think that I get frustrated with this situation. And
it's not because I don't like Ben Williamson. The glove
is absolutely as advertised, it's absolutely outstanding. It's that we
get stuck in these situations where there are such imperfect

(34:28):
solutions to such easily avoidable problems, and the idea of
Jorge Polanco being an everyday third baseman was never a
serious solution to this problem. And it's ridiculous. The ten
games and we're already having to depend on a guy
who has never played in the major leagues, who has
played what a week and a half above Double A,
and who again has hit four baseballs as a professional

(34:49):
over a fence for a home run. It's just it's hard.
It's very frustrating. It's the same thing over and over again.

Speaker 9 (34:56):
All right, I do you want to correct real quick
on one thing with Williamson that number one it was
four home runs instead of five, and also that he
has hit. He hasn't hit for any power. He has
a three to sixty six career Minor league on base percentage,
and that matters. I know fans are looking for power,
they want their third baseman. We're watching a Johanno Suarez
just absolutely clobber base balls.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
Never heard of.

Speaker 9 (35:18):
Yeah, the fun guy, good vibes, good hair. He does
get on base like he has had a history of
getting on base. And there was a reason why he
was a second round pick. Now he was a senior signing,
but lots of organizations wanted this guy. So I get
the power and he doesn't fit the profile of his
home park at all, but he has hit for average
and he has gotten on base. I do think that's
worth pointing now.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
All right, before I get the final thoughts and move ahead, Andrews,
what was the number?

Speaker 2 (35:44):
So it's actually not as high as I expected it
to be, but it's exactly fifty percent of Mariner's runs
have come from the home run. Sixteen of their thirty
two runs have come from the the long ball this year.

Speaker 9 (35:55):
I would have jumped in the ocean if it was
fifty four percent, I'm telling you right now, would have
watched me walk in the field.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Right all right, what kind of week do we need
to see with the Astros and the Rangers? And at
the same time promote your do some shameless self promoting
Nathan fire Away.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
Sure, so they need they need to go above five
hundred this week, and specifically they need to make Hay
against an AFTROS team that I don't think is very
good that they're going to have the starting pitching matchupon
in all three of these games. I would love a
sweep in that series. But they need to win two
of the next three, and then they need to win
at least two of three against the Rangers, like we
were talking about, I think off Air a bad week

(36:36):
this week would really catastrophically set them up. Yes, it
would be early, but if they lose two of three
to the Rangers and struggle against Houston, we're talking about
a seven plus game deficit in the division already, that
would be a very bad thing. As for self promotion,
you can check me out at the lightbat dot substack

Speaker 9 (37:04):
Yeah, we've got to go foreign two and by we,
I mean the Seattle Mariners. I hate when I do that.
Four and two you gotta win that series against the Aftros,
and hopefully you can win the series against the Rangers.
The Rangers have looked like a much better team than
Seattle Mariners so far. But gotta go four and too.
You gotta have winning weeks at home. You can find

Speaker 3 (38:50):
Well?

Speaker 1 (38:50):
Because Victor Robles got carted off yesterday, made an incredible catch,

sports Shaquille Griffin. Various reports say the former seat cornerback
is visiting Seattle this week. Could we have a reunion perhaps,
and a former Husky assistant coach and player, Quincy pondexter

ends up coming back home to Seattle. When it's all

We're good friends at Istakuahonda Cabota. They have the largest

(41:05):
let's see. First of all, we'll wrap up. Let's put
a bow on the Mariners real fast before we move
on to some other stuff. Tonight they take on the
Astros three against the Astros three, then against our good
friends the Texas Rangers, who look pretty good so far
this season. And yes, it's early. Has become like the

(41:30):
running joke in Seattle. It has been, and it started,
really it started. I know baseball guy will tell me
it's been going on forever or neever. It really started
years ago. Sean Figgins, Oh, yeah, the infamous It's early
and yelling at Curtis and Christian Cable and all that stuff.
But it's you know, the guy's pointed out on Malliwap.
This is a tradition under the Depoto rasion, like it

(41:53):
happens every single year. Now this is the worst one
since eight right, three and seven, I think it is.
So it's the worst one in a while. You could
turn that around real quick with a couple wins against Houston,
get to five and seven. You feel a little bit
better about yourself, you know, but certainly not ideal. And anyway,
I thought what Chris said was really interesting because I
was really having a I would say, a tough time

(42:15):
with it. But I was internally wondering on Friday, and
we were on the air when the game's being played,
and so we did football and all that and drafts,
so it's a little bit different for us. But I
did think thought it was interesting with a day off,
Thursday being a day off, that they went to a
spot start bullpen start, call up start, whatever you want
to call it, I mean, and then went to the

(42:36):
other Luis Castile to throw that kind of throw in
that game away a little bit, still had a chance
to win it. Bryce Miller wasn't his best in the
next game. But you only score one run in that game, right,
so does it matter?

Speaker 6 (42:48):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (42:49):
You have beat four to one, you scored one run,
and then yesterday was just a you had a chance,
a chance to at least get to extra innings thanks
to a rose rain. As I mean, you're down to
your last strike, two strike, two out pitch lines of
double just jumps on it down down left field line,

(43:11):
and you lose that one as well, and then you
lose roblests in the top in the bottom of the
ninth inning, and it just goes from bad to worse.
This team, while frustrating every single year at the start
for a variety of reasons, I think this year it's

(43:33):
a very simple thing to look at and say, why
are we frustrated. It's because they ran the exact same
thing back. We were hoping. They were hoping it would
be different. Definition of insanity right right, it's a definition
of insanity, and they run the exact same thing out
and through ten games they're three and seven, and they're

(43:54):
falling behind early again. You're gonna have to play catch
up again. You've missed the playoffs each of the last
two years by one game. These games do matter. I
thought I was surprised Chris was really strong in his
criticism in that regard. I was a little surprised by that.
But I think we all understand why. It's one hundred

(44:16):
and sixty two game season you're gonna lose a lot
of games along the way. But my god, every year
puts yourself into that position like you're just making it
really hard on yourself. And then you start looking at
the actual numbers, and we went through those earlier. I mean,
Talez Solano not good, Garver is still not good.

Speaker 2 (44:33):
Right, It's a lot of these moves that were like, okay,
fine if something pops, but there's such a low likelihood
of that happening that you're just kind of tossing out
blindly that these things that might work.

Speaker 1 (44:44):
How terrifying would it be? How much trouble would they
be in right now if Julio and Cal weren't doing
what they're doing.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
Yeah, and even Julio, like, I think he's been better
to start the year than in his previous three years
as a profession a baseball player. But I still think
there's more.

Speaker 1 (45:02):
There's oh, there's on or more.

Speaker 6 (45:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (45:03):
Listen, if I take the batting average to throw it
out of side, yeah, like he's hitting two sixteen whatever
you throw out a side that's going to go anymore.
He's hitting the ball. He's got six walks already, he's
got three fifty six on base percentage right ops is
eight sixty nine. Like he's driving, He's driving the ball,
he's producing runs for you. Now five home runs are
three home runs but just five rbi, So he's obviously

(45:25):
got three solo shots, right so so like, but that's
not he's the number two hitter, right you know, if
ROBO's to the bottom of the order is not getting on,
not much he can do exactly. Cal is kind of clutch,
just does his thing. But and listen, you tell me
that you're getting a four to fifty batting average and
you're getting what you're getting out of Polanco right now

(45:48):
with you know, a couple of home runs and eight
RBIs through. You tell me you're getting Polanco's got you
got you eight rbi through through ten games. I'm like, damn,
these guys will take that. I would have guessed seven
and three to be honest with you, Yeah, not three
and seven, not three and so.

Speaker 2 (46:01):
And it just shows how slim the margins are. And
I think Nathan brought this up with the injury, like
one pitcher going on the il, and that kind of
changes the entire outlook of this team because I think
with most people can kind of think, oh, they have
a one through five that's better than anyone in baseball,
the starting pitching, so you have a chance to win
every single night if they get any sort of offense.
We've heard the story million times, they're gonna they're gonna

(46:22):
be successful this year. But then as soon as George
Kirby goes off, all right, you bring up Emerson Hancock.
All right, maybe not what you want to see from him.
I was always down on him, but you know, there's
some people that think he's not much of a drop
off from those five. But you're starting to see the
scrambling of any sort of like throw any pitchers out there.
The bullpen's not there. You're not getting what you expected
from like the players you were mentioning in the margins,

(46:46):
and it's just these holes that you didn't fill are
rearing its ugly head once again.

Speaker 1 (46:50):
That's the problem. Yeah, you ran, You ran exactly out
what you did last year. Yes, and it's it's coming
right back to Haunche again. I know you mentioned it
a couple of things. On Randy.

Speaker 2 (46:59):
I think he's getting a little unlucky. He's hitting the
ball hard and he's still walking, So I think that
will definitely turn around at least his his on base
numbers and his his average numbers. But that's one of
the players you need to rely on anyway. It's the
other players that are more concerning.

Speaker 1 (47:14):
Well your third base is. And I thought the guys
did a great job of talking about the third base
position because Polanco just can't play it, Like I think,
I think the sample size is only you know, two
weeks into a season, a week and half into a season.
You need a sample size to tell if someone can
play a position, because if he could, he wouldn't have
to sit out every other day.

Speaker 2 (47:32):
Yes, And I think it was pretty damning when they
needed some like he was the only guy left on
the bench, and it was Dylan Moore's played first base
before many times actually, and they moved they did. They
didn't want him to play third base so much in
a big position. At the bottom of a extra inning
game that they had, they had to put him at

(47:53):
first base and someone and Matt Miles Master Bony at
right field.

Speaker 1 (47:56):
Yeah, they moved him out to they moved Master Bonie.
Who was your third base when they moved him out
to right?

Speaker 9 (48:01):
Right?

Speaker 1 (48:01):
Demo demo is there?

Speaker 6 (48:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (48:03):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know, buddy, it's it's it just
feels like more of the same over and over again.
And that's and that's frustrating. All right, Later on, I
want to switch just real quick. Later on tonight, we've
got the national championship game in college basketball. On Saturday,
some of us were working hockey games, but I know
a lot of people across the country, about sixteen million

(48:24):
to be exact, people were watching Houston and Duke play,
which is up significantly from last year, up twenty four
percent from two years ago. In terms of what the
viewership was people were watching. We'll talk to Gary Parrish
on Friday or Thursday actually saying wrap up the college
basketball season. Listen. If we're being honest, it's not the

(48:45):
sexiest matchup tonight. In fact, I think Gary said this
on our show last week, because the big story this
year is the lack of Cinderellas four number ones. But
everyone kind of agreed of the four number ones, the
least compelling of the four number ones, the one that
probably would get people least excited would be Florida, and

(49:06):
Florida gets in, they find a way into the title
game because they beat the number one overall, C Auburn
All SEC battle and then you take on a Houston
team that miraculous comeback, come back for the Ages. Duke
did whatever it did at the end to give them
a chance. Referees aside everything else. Make a free throw,

(49:28):
make a field goal. You have plenty of opportunities to
put that away. But Gary brought this up on his podcast,
and I'll talk to him about on Friday. He says,
we don't need Cinderella's. He brought it up with us
last week. We don't need Cinderella's in the tournament. We
need big brands. Listen, we do need big brands. If
we are named CBSTNT we do. Or Westwood One are

(49:52):
our thing. But I love know your thoughts too, because
I look at this the great thing about the and
they're actually having meetings today on Capitol Hill, the house
settlements going on. All hell's breaking loose up there. Bember Curvin,
by the way, former Husky linebacker, one of the one
of the former student athletes, testifying he and Livy Dunn
are opposed to it, which interesting, Yeah, which, but there's

(50:15):
a reason for that. I would say. In bbk's case,
he gets it and Livy Livy Dunn's case, she understands
that her sport, gymnastics, is one that could be impacted.

Speaker 6 (50:25):
Yah.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
Absolutely, college sports are in a precarious place right now.
Gary's right, big brown cell. And when you know who
was it Loyola Chicago or VCU George Mason. When they're
finding their way, Yeah, when they're finding their way into
Elite aids and Sweet sixteens and final fours. People like

(50:47):
the story, they don't necessarily like watching it, And so
Gary's right in that regard. My argument would be this,
in the day and age the college sports have evolved
into and I love college sport. You guys know this.
I love college football, I love college basketball, and I'll
still watch And yes, Gary and others people are still

(51:09):
watching at a higher level this year. Yeah, Duke skews
the numbers a little bit because Duke basketball is such
an outlier. They are the brand of Duke basketball. It's massive. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
And you throw on probably the best player and the
most recognizable player of the entire year on Duke.

Speaker 1 (51:29):
If you ask the average sports fan, yeah, a month ago,
name me one player in college basketball Cooper flag Zaman
names Yeah, he just is. So they skew the numbers
a little bit. The disappointing part I have with how
this and we'll talk again with Gary Thursday about the
disappointing I have part with it. Is this the NCAA
tournament with sixty four to sixty eight teams, whatever you

(51:50):
want to call it. It's the one sport, or it's
the it separates itself from college football in the sense
that every year at the start of the year, everyone
feels like they have a chance to get to the tournament. Right,
everybody feels like they have a chance to get to
the tourney. The way the portal and the nil world
have come now, I don't think that's the case anymore.

(52:11):
Even Gonzaga, which is a hammer program, and I heard
Dick in Softy arguing couples go about the blue bloods
the stuff, and you know, I don't quite think we'd
put gonzag in a blue blood. But if we're talking
about the most recognizable programs in college basketball today twenty
twenty five, Indiana is not one. UCLA maybe isn't even one,

(52:32):
Sorry Bruins, Micron, where's Mick cronin gonzag Is Gonzaga lost
two players that are that were they were counting on
to come back next to years as the portal. Michael
Jay is going to Butler, Butler, what is it? Kevin
Clouder's all minor think of this. I don't know, but
I know as Brad Steven's coach there someone's right in

(52:53):
the check. But that's the frustrating part with me, is
that in the end, Cinderella not existing in the tournament.
To me is basically it's it's kind of an illustration
of where the sport has gone. Yeah, I think you're
still You're still going to have your teams that the

(53:14):
auto bid teams in there from you know, the Missouri
Valley Conference, the AAC and the SWACK and all these
other smaller conferences the WHACK, right, WCC, Well, WCC is Gonzaga.
But you know, you get my point right, But the
start of the year, if you're San Francisco, if you're

(53:34):
Wichita State, if you're Butler, if you're Davidson, if you're Wazoo,
you all think you have a chance to get in.
Just when you're when you're a conforenent tournament tournament, it's
becoming more and more hard to feel like you have
any chance whatsoever because you can't build a program anymore.
And that to me is a little frustrated. I think
that's what college basketball has lost.

Speaker 2 (53:55):
Yeah, and it's weird because I think in the dawn
of the NIL era a couple of years ago, everyone
was like, Oh, this is going to do wonders for
the Cinderell stories because they're going to give more opportunities
to guys that maybe were bottom end of rosters on
those top tier teams instead of flooding everyone to those
ten twelve programs that are all blue bloods like we
were just talking about. Now, those players who could be

(54:17):
starting on other teams are going to move to those
other teams. And then but we're starting to see the
back end of that now where the players that maybe
weren't given the opportunity at those bigger programs, as we've
seen with Wazoo the last couple of years, as soon
as they have any sort of impact, they're moving on
to the next time.

Speaker 1 (54:32):
You're not And the thing is, you're not developing players.
A no, you're not. Like you just can't develop players
like it used to be. You could develop players and
those guys, hey they're coming back next year. You can
develop this along the way and you're not developing players anymore.
And Gary's whole thing with I forget who it was.
Donovan Dent I think was a guy who transferred, and
he was getting a lot of flack because he praised
the decision to move and he compared it to like

(54:54):
his own kind of career path. Right right, you started
the only job you could get right out of college
was this one, and you move up to the next
part of the world.

Speaker 2 (55:01):
Why is that not a success story? But I think
it's a little bit different. I don't see it as
a full on career because these guys are still in
college and I get they're getting paid now, but there
needs to be some sort of like cross between the two,
and it feels like it's leaning too far in the other.

Speaker 1 (55:15):
Donovan Dan's going to UCLA, by the way, he's in
New Mexico's best player and a tournament team. But it's
I think what my thought would be, and when this
this whole thing flushes out with the house settlement and
everything else, Gary's right, Yeah, we all want to be
able to do our best. But the problem is is
that there needs to be some sort of contract because
even a coach, I mean Oh, coaches can move, yes,

(55:37):
but without they're still a penalty attached. Correct, there's a
financial penalty attached. Now the coach doesn't necessarily have to
pay it, but schools do. There needs to be a
contract because Gary can't. If ESPN called tomorrow and says
Gary Perrish, we want you on our CBS on our
college basketball coverage, he can't just leave CBS right unless
his contract is up.

Speaker 9 (55:58):
Right.

Speaker 1 (55:58):
If Peter Schreeger just left the NFL netw work, why, well,
his contract was up. It's a free agent. It's a
free agent, and you know, and they decided like he
had a great So, yeah, career decision. Good for you. You
go do that. You know, my contract comes up, maybe
I can look around, Maybe I want to look around,
maybe I don't, doesn't matter. But when I'm under contract,

(56:18):
if you're a salesperson, you can relate to this. Yeah,
like most sales people, like I know ours do, They've
got no competes. Yeah you want to leave, cool, Well,
you're not going to do anything for six months in
the business, right There, there's a penalty to be paid
played like a coach shouldn't develop Like we've turned into
a minor league. System all across the country.

Speaker 2 (56:36):
And I think that makes it less compelling, honestly, because yes,
I don't. I love people who work in minor league sports,
minor league baseball, trip play baseball, whatever. But I think
the fact that separates college sports from the developmental programs
because you're looking at probably the same level of play
in terms of compared to the top.

Speaker 1 (56:54):
Level up into sport.

Speaker 2 (56:56):
You have the connection to players, connection to the alumni
and every thing.

Speaker 1 (57:00):
Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (57:01):
That's what separates college sports and makes it as popular
as it is. So if you start going away from that,
going towards a professional model, I don't know if that
makes it as interesting to a lot.

Speaker 1 (57:10):
Of supports think at does I don't look at this.
I would say break Jusman's down in four nine, four
to five. One your thoughts there four one four five
on the text line, Uh, just Win's down at t
Mobile Park and we're just kind of waiting to see Donovan. Uh,
who's who got Canzon? Dom Kenzon? Why I say Donovan? Yeah,
dominic U in the canzone. Uh, coming up from Tacoma.
He is in the spot of the clubhouse. So obviously

(57:31):
rollblsts we would assume is going to go on uh
an injured list, will find out what his status is.
We'll hear from Jerry and not Jerry actually justin Holland
are coming up about two thirty Jess Well, Colin, let
us know what he says. Get some injury updates from
the Mariners. Check your text next ninety three point three KTERFM.

Speaker 7 (57:48):
You're listening to the exclusive home of the Huskies, the
Kracking and March Madness. Now back to Ian Furnesz proudly
brought to you by Snow Collney Casino on Sports Radio
ninety three point kJ RM.

Speaker 1 (58:05):
Alrighty, then we're back. We'll check the text here in
just second four nine, four to five one on the
text line. Our show brought to you by stokecalm Me Casino,
Snocasino dot com, sales closest casino sportsbooking hotel opening up
this summer as well at snowcalm Me Casino, s and
O Casino dot Com. Big busy show tomorrow. By the way,
we should mention a lot of football talk tomorrow. All

(58:27):
so Joe Sheen on tomorrow Palazolo. We're gonna talk tight
ends tomorrow with Palazolo. My man Hugh Millan tells me
the tight ends a need for the Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (58:36):
I appreciate he says that every single time it comes
on the air. Now, I don't know if anyone else knows.
I would definitely think tight end is a point of emphasis.
I actually agree with you. I agree with him too.
I agree with you on that one.

Speaker 1 (58:47):
So we'll check in with you tomorrow or with Palasol
tomorrow and talk tight ends. I mean, obviously the big
one there's but there's God, who was it. I want
to say, it might have been co No, maybe it
was No, Maybe it was Rang was telling us that
the Tyler Warren. There's there's a couple of guys after
Warren that are maybe not him, but they're expected to

(59:11):
be impact guys. Right, And like, if you if for
some reason he was there at eighteen, would you just
still do it? Not do it? If Larren was absolutely
that's the pick I'm making. Yeah, I would think so too.
But we'll talk about that with Pelzolo coming up tomorrow.
All right, hit the music. Let's get a couple of
texts four nine, four or five one? Wow, Molly wop.

(59:34):
Guy's got people going today? Hell yeah, there's a lot
of America conversation, a lot of amer of conversation. I forgot
to mention the headline. Two people mentioned on the NHL stuff, Yes,
Alexandervichkin setting the all time record for goals scored in
the National Hockey League yesterday. How are your thoughts on that?
Incredible accomplishments. A lot of those are empty letters, A

(59:59):
lot of thats a guy that's not like a penalty
killer type guy necessarily. It's incredible.

Speaker 4 (01:00:05):
It's long.

Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
Jevity's incredible to break that, you know, to break that.
The points record is still what matters in the NHL
and so and that will ever be broken probably, But
what he's done compared to his peers that are currently
playing is remarkable. Yeah, there was a part of the
time he was playing. We're come of the so called
dead pop era too.

Speaker 2 (01:00:25):
So Gretzky has like a Lebron James quality to him,
where he at at one point was the top goal scorer,
but goal scoring wasn't his best attribute sort of thing.

Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Yeah, it was a great playmaker too, So yeah, I
don't know, it's it's great. I mean, he's cool. I
more concerned with our local hockey team than I am
about Alexander Fitch ki y. I'm not a hu Jovie fan,
but I watched that. Selly. That was pretty awesome. It
was pretty cool. The belly flop, Yeah, that's great. Jason
Bonandy did a good job on the call, so he
was good. All right, let's see, did it. Keith Miller says,

(01:00:58):
I'm in Shelton on Thursday. If needed, I can go
to a welfare check on Skeeter. Let me know. Yeah,
we need you to do that. Skeeter's out there losing
his mind. Another three six, So hello, I love Mollywop.
Mondays like that. Like that. A lot of talk about
Dan Wilson as a manager two O six. Dan Wilson
is not an MLB caliber manager. Horrible higher wow another

(01:01:23):
one four two five. We all questioned the Dan movement
manager at.

Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
The time, did you know, I feel like most people
are pretty excited about it.

Speaker 1 (01:01:30):
I was one who was not. I remember when the
news came out exactly where I was. We were at
the Smokwami Casino that day and we did an emergency
Mollywop and the first it just what came to my
mind was wow, really like because not that he was
the interim that he was full time. Yes, I think

(01:01:54):
we all assume we heard it. It's like, oh, you're
the inter manager for the rest of the year. Yeah, no,
you're the full time Like moving ahead, it was a
not higher I thought that was it very and it
felt very marinerike.

Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
And it almost felt non Jerry Depoto decision, Like, Yeah,
I don't think it was his decision. And I'm as
big of a Depoto critic as there is. I don't
think this was to his decision.

Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
Yeah, but I mean, I know Chris, Chris, I listen,
I'll be that guy for a second. Yeah, I don't know.
We don't know yet.

Speaker 6 (01:02:25):
I don't. I don't bet.

Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
I wouldn't even. I don't think I could make it.
I don't. I'm not a great This is a weakness
for me, is sports radio talk show host. I'm not
great in terms of telling you whether a guy's a
good coach or a good manager in any sport. To
be honest with you, now, if I can tell you
if I think a guy should be replaced because things
have gone so far south culture wise and everything else,

(01:02:50):
but you know, day to day, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
Well, it's different sports too. Yeah, I think hockey and soccer, And.

Speaker 1 (01:02:59):
Like, I know you guys debating today, You and Jackson
were out there talking about the Sounders and they got
smoked on Saturday three nothing, three nil, and but you
were talking about formations and things like that. I think
what you guys were saying is like you were you
were able to evaluate, especially you was playing at a
high level and coaching. You kind of feel like you

(01:03:21):
have a good feel for what Schmetz is doing right wrong.
Maybe it's time to abandon the formation. I don't know.
With with Dan, I think organizationally, it's not a Dan
Wilson call because he's not the guy making the call
up to bring up other off brand Luis Castillo. That
was a decision made by the organization to punt on that.

Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
But there are some his decisions like pinch hitting right,
bullpen decisions.

Speaker 1 (01:03:44):
That are do you play small ball at a certain point,
do you go for a sacrifice? Things like that. There
are there are people that are baseball people that.

Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
Are including their own broadcast, which is wild Angie.

Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
It was Goldie Goldie. Yeah, it was like Whatldie growing
up a boy? I know he's all growing up now.
This Simsy's gone it's Goldie. I like Goldie. I love
I love Goldie man, I love Goldie. Olie does a
great job along the way. Julio cannot hit in high
leverage situations.

Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
I don't know he hit a game winning home run
the second game of season or third game of season
two one victory.

Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
I think if you're basically on the bat yesterday at
the end of the game, sure maybe that's one. But whatever, not,
everyone's gonna be perfect there. Tom says, don't d m's
get it that the big time is now. To quote
the great Frosty Western, I love Frosty. Make the big
time where you are. It's not a place stay your mind.
Every man's a loot. Frosty's great. Let's see two five three.

(01:04:41):
Manners are like those people that go around the next
morning after the fourth of July looking for fireworks that
didn't go off, try and relight them, then wonder why
they don't go off. I have some breaking news and
we are going live from the ballpark. Jasamin McIntyre is
with us from safeg Field Kingdome someplace down there. Team
well whatever call it these days. What's up, Jess, What

(01:05:02):
do you got?

Speaker 6 (01:05:03):
Well?

Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
I just had the pleasure. I was listening to Justin
Hollander who give an injury update, and obviously all signs
are looking at Victor World Blaze after making the miraculous
cats that he did and only suffering a shoulder injury
by the way, so we did get some updates. He's
having imaging today. So as Justin stated, I don't know what,

(01:05:24):
I don't know. He we will have a more clear
idea of the extent of the injury within twenty four
to thirty six hours according to GM Justin Hollander, but
he only sustained that shoulder injury, so I can report.

Speaker 4 (01:05:38):
That as well.

Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
Matt Brash through a BP earlier today I believe, or
yesterday within the last twenty four hours, felt great. George
Kirby is looking at a late April return.

Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
Late April for George Kirby. That's good news. That's good.
That's good news. That's really good.

Speaker 3 (01:05:54):
I mean that is I will say that that is
an optimistic outlook, just judge from how Justin treated that question.
But he said that optimistically they're looking at late April
for Kirby, and he is currently in Tacoma, will probably
spend some time in Arizona as well.

Speaker 1 (01:06:11):
Let me go back to the Victor Robos thing. So
basically they just is he on the injured list?

Speaker 3 (01:06:18):
Did they announce he will go on the IL?

Speaker 9 (01:06:20):
Yes, yeah, he will be placed.

Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
It hasn't officially been released, but Justin did say that
he will be on the IL.

Speaker 9 (01:06:27):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
Does he say whether it be ten, fifteen or thirty days?

Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
He did not specify the length of time just because
the imaging hasn't been done yet. But obviously you're like,
if imaging is being done, an X rays word done,
it doesn't look like a break. Obviously we know that
ligament damage can take a lot of variable times. Having
gone through ligament damage myself, I do not that is
a true fact. And so after the imaging they'll have

(01:06:51):
a little bit more clear timeline on the you know,
the length of the time for the IL.

Speaker 6 (01:06:58):
I always try. I always go to d L, but it's.

Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
Eye L now and then can zone is the call
up in that place?

Speaker 6 (01:07:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
So the rollblists, So he's getting imaging done. They didn't
show a break of with an x X rays. Don't
hill Jack these day?

Speaker 4 (01:07:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
To me, this is like positive development because maybe there's
nothing that really showed in the original X rays, and
then they're gonna go do more imaging to make sure
there's no other structural damage.

Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
So they're just making sure. Yeah, all right, well, good news,
thanks Jess.

Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
Anything else, Okay, No, I don't think anything. He's going
through minor league injuries right now, but we can save
that after a press release.

Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
How about that. We're okay with that. But good stuff, thanks, Jeff,
appreciate it, all right. Yeah, just McIntire down there at
the ballpark with the latest. So, yeah, Matt Brash's gonna
throw live VP on Wednesday. Possible rehab assignment and tacoma.
But the big news Victor Robless is going on the
injured list. But as far as the extent of his injuries,
we don't know. Imaging done this afternoon. Should know more

(01:07:52):
in the next day or two along the way. The
problem with the imaging, like as someone who's going through
some knee stuff right now and dealing with a lot
of that, is that X rays don't show a lot.
They don't. It's only just stuff at bone breaks or
something like that. Yeah, so you've got to go through
the hole. Whatch you again? Is a positive? It means
he didn't have a broken arm, all right, broken risks.

(01:08:12):
And I guess the other thing is she said just
his shoulder because we were wondering why he was holding
this forearm. We're talking about that earlier, so that is good.
But yeah, as far as the actual imaging going and
all that stuff, they got to do the MRI and
figure that out and take a peek and let's cross
our fingers and hope for the best for Victor Robots.
But he is going on the injured list and dominic
Conzone being called up for your nose Mare and Arrows
who take on the Houston Astros tonight at six point

(01:08:34):
forty at the Ballpark. We'll take a break, come back
checking with Softy.

Speaker 5 (01:08:37):
Next he's riding on his horse areas, Ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 6 (01:08:59):
By the way, did you you see that? Bernard Longer
announced this will be his final Masters this week.

Speaker 1 (01:09:05):
Oh he's he's done.

Speaker 6 (01:09:07):
He's gonna play this week and he's done.

Speaker 1 (01:09:08):
How old is he?

Speaker 6 (01:09:10):
I don't know how old he.

Speaker 8 (01:09:11):
Is, but I know how many Masters will have played
all fire away Anders, Come on, man, go ahead. Forty
one doesn't.

Speaker 6 (01:09:21):
Help the bit when you don't have everything ready to.

Speaker 1 (01:09:24):
Use it so I'm not used to it good. I
do sometimes, but I never I don't do it well.
And it's I'm just taking soft and stuff. Sixty seven
years old, that's that's two years younger.

Speaker 6 (01:09:33):
Then, Oh I don't have that. That's on a different page.

Speaker 1 (01:09:39):
It just ruins the bit when I say that, come on, I'm.

Speaker 6 (01:09:41):
Ready, but it's on a different page.

Speaker 8 (01:09:43):
My god, it's Freddy Freddy again, so he's.

Speaker 1 (01:09:48):
Two years away from that. How old is shred couple?

Speaker 6 (01:09:51):
I got no idea.

Speaker 1 (01:09:51):
I'm looking well because fred I think friends being all
those guys that plays until like he's in a wheelchair.

Speaker 6 (01:09:56):
He is sixty five.

Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
Years old, so he's still he'll he'll shoot like even
par on day one, two over and missed the cutter
free over. On the next day his back will sees
up and whatever, but he'll like he'll look good for
like you know, the first like what twenty four holes
or twenty years or something like that.

Speaker 9 (01:10:13):
I love ready.

Speaker 1 (01:10:14):
Well, you know, there was a big deal years ago
at the Masters. My buddy Bobby Casper, you know, his
dad Billy was a Master's champion. I remember a few
years ago, like they tried to do a thing where
they were going to get rid of the past champions
having you know, lifetime exemptions, and it turned into a
big thing. So but you know playing tell you you
know what, what do they say, plan till you can't

(01:10:35):
play anymore?

Speaker 6 (01:10:36):
So yeah, I agree.

Speaker 8 (01:10:37):
Hey, I mean, I mean, if somebody told me, it's
like I saw somebody.

Speaker 6 (01:10:41):
I don't know when this was.

Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
It is Master's Week, by the way. I didn't bring
it up earlier, but his Master's Week.

Speaker 6 (01:10:44):
That's why saying yeah, in case you didn't know, it
is Master's Week.

Speaker 8 (01:10:47):
By the way, we got all of our Dick picks
on the air on Friday for the tournament. You pick
h He's got a lot of them. He's got a
lot of selections. He likes to cover his bases.

Speaker 1 (01:10:56):
The Ultimate Ultimate hedging.

Speaker 8 (01:10:58):
Apparently he's got Bryson to win. He's got more Cowa
to win. He's got Rory top five, Corey Conners in
the top ten. H his free money bet is Tommy
Fleetwood top twenty. He likes min hu Lee in the
top twenty. He likes will Zalatoris. So I think at
some point's gonna win this thing. Top twenty and Patrick

(01:11:18):
Reid Jackson Feltz's doppelganger.

Speaker 6 (01:11:21):
In the top twenty.

Speaker 8 (01:11:22):
So I might I might have two different parlays, one
with Bryson to win and one with more Cowa to
win and.

Speaker 6 (01:11:28):
See what happens. Oh, a couple of bucks here at
the Emerald? Quickhy not?

Speaker 9 (01:11:32):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
Why wouldn't you do that? So I wouldn't do that?

Speaker 6 (01:11:34):
Who do you like? Tonight? Florida is giving a point
and a half here at the EQ.

Speaker 8 (01:11:38):

Tresa and Keeley here from the embra quack.

Speaker 1 (01:11:55):
Time out him just a mall or Dave softy Maller
and here oh oh hey.

Speaker 6 (01:12:04):
Now hey, hey d to Dave Simms.

Speaker 1 (01:12:06):
Hey now hey, now hey, now know who's who there?

Speaker 6 (01:12:10):
Tressa's on the left with the glasses, and Keey is.

Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
The blonde and there and they is there a roll
down there they.

Speaker 8 (01:12:15):
Work in this In the sports book, Tressa is a
cocktail server. Uh and Akielly is a bartender, and they're
phenomenal people. Yes, Heeley actually worked a bar at my
birthday party. You were there, I was there.

Speaker 6 (01:12:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
Do I remember her?

Speaker 6 (01:12:28):
Probably not?

Speaker 8 (01:12:29):
No, not sure if you remember anything from that night.
To be honest with you, it was a fun night,
very very fun night.

Speaker 6 (01:12:37):
A fun night.

Speaker 8 (01:12:38):
Hey. Has anybody bitched and moaned about the setup at
the Giant Stadium that led to Victor Roblest busting his shoulder?

Speaker 6 (01:12:46):
No?

Speaker 8 (01:12:46):
There, well, just flying the ball, flying into the net
getting caught up there. I mean, it's like it's twenty
twenty five. It just kind of feels like every wall
around the outfield should be like nine feet high and.

Speaker 6 (01:12:59):
Should be padded.

Speaker 8 (01:13:00):
Well, if you if you can make a leap and
get up and grab a ball, then great.

Speaker 6 (01:13:04):
But the idea of a guy going.

Speaker 8 (01:13:06):
Over a wall that's like three feet high and into
a netting just seems like nineteen ninety ish.

Speaker 1 (01:13:11):
It felt, you know what, It felt very like, very
felt very evil. Knievel like it really did, you know,
like when he used to crash his you know, jump
the school buses and crash.

Speaker 8 (01:13:20):
Lucky honestly, because I was watching that live yesterday. Yeah,
he's lucky he wasn't hurt worse. Seriously, Oh yeah, you know,
getting his getting to getting a hand caught up in there,
getting a foot caught up in there.

Speaker 6 (01:13:31):
Whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:13:32):
Now I now I see now I see why? Yeah,
because it got the this like where he crashed about
four feet above that is where that people can watch
the game from.

Speaker 6 (01:13:40):
So right, well it's all about money.

Speaker 1 (01:13:42):
Now, he's why do you need a netting out there?
Would be my question?

Speaker 6 (01:13:44):
Well, just to protect the fans. I guess you know
that are behind it.

Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
Yeah, but the netting usually ends well before that because
the netting kind of looks like the problem there, doesn't it.

Speaker 6 (01:13:52):
I'm just watching.

Speaker 8 (01:13:53):
It is down from the foul pole and protects the
fans in the corner. I have no idea where that
starts and where it ends, but this was surprised that
nobody was complaining about that. I remember the the Huskies
had a guy. I think he either broke his hand
or like busted a knee on the brick wall behind
the end zone at Notre Dame Stadium.

Speaker 6 (01:14:10):
Oh yeah, why is there a brick wall? Why?

Speaker 1 (01:14:12):
And is why is it not padded?

Speaker 3 (01:14:13):
Well?

Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
It looks, it looks cool. It looks great, looks cool.
You know what if if a guy from Notre Dame
would have done that, that's right, it probably would have changed.

Speaker 6 (01:14:20):
Would have been a problem, man.

Speaker 1 (01:14:22):
It would have shown that ballpark. I know, people loving
stuff just watching that replay again, like you got like
a pointed center field too.

Speaker 8 (01:14:29):
It's very odd, man, but it's kind of part of
what makes baseball unique. I get that, and that all
these stadiums are different, right.

Speaker 1 (01:14:36):
I think I just point out that everything down you know,
San Francisco Giants, forty nine ers, everything down there, screwed up, buddy,
it's just.

Speaker 6 (01:14:45):
Down there, great, great, great Italian seafood.

Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
Speaking of which John Line will be on the show
tomorrow speaking mora ons from San Francisco. All right, what
are you coming up?

Speaker 8 (01:14:53):
Julio's on the show tomorrow, by the way, whoa hey
now speaking of.

Speaker 1 (01:14:56):
Not speaking of Dave Dave sims Hey now, heyw.

Speaker 8 (01:15:00):
Yeah, you know today Dick's out, He's on vacation, so
he was in the whole week. Mike de Coursi is
in San Antonio. He'll join us at four from the Alamodome.
Bill Kruder is going to make an appearance on the
show today and talk some baseball with us as well
at five o'clock, and we may have a blitz drunk
inebriated Matt Thomas joining us as well. He's a big

(01:15:23):
Houston Cougar fan. I think he went to Houston, by
the way. He's down there in San Antonio as well,
and he may pop on the air and say hi
before tip off around six pm to night.

Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
Trunk radio is always good radio.

Speaker 8 (01:15:32):
Oh, it's phenomenal at least when the dump button works. Actually,
when it doesn't work, it's even more fun for us.

Speaker 1 (01:15:38):
To fifty to fifty it is working. We'll see, all right,
give it a test later.

Speaker 6 (01:15:42):
We will see.

Speaker 1 (01:15:45):
For the mild mannered and marginally objectionable Inverness, this is
paddle day, saying so long everyone,
