Speaker 1 (00:02):
Jojo on the radio present Paranormal Normal. You want to
hear something crazy, this interview or this little chat, whatever
you want to call it. We didn't even plan this. Yeah, oh,
I'm sitting at Kiss FM. We're gonna I'm in an office,
and all of a sudden, I see Isa Bellamer said,
just walking by holding the laptop, like you worked here.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah, I told you. I was like, yeah, I'm working
here now.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
So I saw you and I was like, what, Oh
my god, what what are you doing? And then obviously
I'm just I jump into my alien craze because you're
in Romulus, and I can't wait to see this movie. Hey,
first things first, though, good to see you.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
It's really good to see you.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
I'm so excited for this movie. Yeah, I can't tell
you how obsessed I am with the entire Alien series.
Tell me something, talk about this. I mean, I got
I need to hear it. Well, like you want to
start at with this?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I love well. I love that Fey's going back to
Falva sorry the director. He is going back to the
roots of the horror and the franchise. I love personally.
I love Prometheus because I feel like it explored some
of the cool themes. I love the exploration of the engineers,
but I love that Fite is taking sort of like
the highlights from everything and just sort of bringing it
(01:15):
into this in what he's calling an interval, which I
guess is like not a prequel, not a sequel, but
in between, so after the first Alien movie and before
the second one.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Okay, so for hardcore Alien fans. Speaking of the timeline,
there's the original the og which came out in nineteen
seventy nine, and then the second movie called Aliens, which
came out in nineteen eighty six. Then Alien Romulus, your movie,
as far as the timeline goes, fits right in between
those two.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Yeah, And honestly you don't. You don't have to have
watched any of the other Aliens. However, if you do,
then you're gonna enjoy the hell out of it like
that much more because you'll see all the Because Vetti
himself is just a fan of the franchise. He thoroughly
loves it, and I think this best case scenario, you know,
it's not just like a a studio picking out the
hottest director. Like he went out of his way wrote
(02:04):
the script as his writing partner Rothough and sent it, like,
emailed it to Ridley and then they responded by some miracle,
They were like, we like it.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
In this big movie.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Hey, have you seen any of the original Alien series
or are you a fan of it?
Speaker 2 (02:21):
I was a late bloomer.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
I was twenty maybe when I watched my first Alien movie,
and it was it was.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Because i'd seen it.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
I you know, it was so ingrained in our culture,
in pop culture, that I was appreciative of it, not
having really sat through a whole Alien film. So when
I was twenty so two years before this movie happened,
and before I even knew about this movie happening, was
when I sat down and I really watched it on
my friend's projector. They had a really good sound system too,
and it was just phenomenal. I loved how how cool
(02:50):
and homemade it felt, even though it was a large
scale movie back when blockbusters were truly blockbusters and people
would line out the doors, and I totally understood it.
Sometimes you watch movie and it doesn't age well, you
don't really get the hype.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Not this one.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
This one is.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
I mean, it's universally a wonderful experience and I can't
imagine how it must have felt to be in the theaters?
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Did you go see it in theaters when I.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Now, I was a little kid when it came out,
when the original one came out, but I saw it
years later and it just rocked me.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Wow. I mean, like, that's what I'm most excited about
is kind of people having the maybe their first alien
experience in theaters and then being introduced to the rest
of like going and exploring the rest of it and
really seeing how how much of an homage this is to.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
The other one. Your character in this movie, I think
her name is Kay, right, and what can you say
about her? What do we need to know?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
My character's name is Kay. I am the youngest of
the group. We're not space travelers by any means. We're
not that I mean like they are, but for other
reasons I'm not. My character is just too young to
be in the workforce yet, I think. And she's probably
a farmer on her home planet, but I mean there's
not a lot of farming going on, considering this is
a planet that has no sun, so I'm like not
(03:59):
sure how that I don't know there's the origin is
something that I have to ask Fete more about. But
I know that we come from a planet that has
no sun and we're just trying to find the sun
and find a better life because it's almost impossible to leave.
So this is our only way out, and that's what
they explained in the trailers. This is the only way
out of here. So we got to you know, are
you doing.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
It or not?
Speaker 3 (04:15):
And so obviously I think we're all looking for better
lives and that's kind of the we're chasing the sun literally,
and I think visually it's it's really well shown, like
the lighting is very clever, and you'll see how the
sun plays almost like in a very important role in
this movie.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Okay, now we're behind the scenes, me and Isabella, we're
kind of watching. We watched the trailer the case escape,
you know clip and to see you going through that.
It looked like a frightening scene and it looked like
it was difficult to shoot, like there was a lot
going on. What was the most difficult thing to shoot
about this movie? Because it looked very cold, it looked
very claustrophobic. What was the most difficult scene to shoot?
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Well, they they built all these massive sets, they built
all the monsters, they built everything, Every button had a purpose,
that everything had a reason and a detail. The detail
was impact, and I was just really it was easy
for me to get into it in a way because
of everything that they supplied me with As an actor.
You know, this is like a dream to be able
to work with these real monsters.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
You're not imagining all of it.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
All you have to imagine is your internal feelings and
then hopefully the audience will interpret.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
That because you're normally, like if you're green screen, you're
like following a tennis ball or somebody holding up a stick.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
That was my whole Transformers experience.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
When I did the eighteenth Transformers movie, I was I
was working with like tennis balls and only maybe a
Transformer's head, which was really cool, phenomenal, but that's what
I was accustomed to because that was my first experience.
This is very rare and hopefully it will start a trend. Yeah,
you saw the alien. There was three different things. It
was a robot, there was half man, half robot, and
then there was just the man costume, which is just
(05:43):
included a tall man in a costume. It was xenomorph
And it was really really fascinating to see the process
with each of those and how it was like to
film with each of those and how many people it took.
These people that are working on the Alien are the
ones that have worked on five of the other Alien movies.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
WHOA, Okay, there's a scene and I don't know if
this is your character. I'm getting the scenes kind of
jumbled in my head. But you know, Alien is known
for like, for example, the first Alien Part one where
the alien jumps down to the stomach the chest burster. Yeah,
this one. I've seen clips where there's the alien, something's
going either into or out of the somebody's throw face hugger.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Yeah, face huggers exactly.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Yeah. And I'm guessing you have to be careful with
what you say. It's a bit fallid ain't it?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Though?
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Oh my god, but that's not I was thinking more
along the lines of you don't want to leak anything
before the movie comes down, because we're taping this a
couple of days before. But my question is, did they
really do that or like it's something in their throat
or is that like a like a CG effect.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Well, it's interesting.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
I wasn't there for those scenes because my character takes
an app and so I wasn't there. So when I
watched that, I too was like, WHOA, what the hell?
I watched the chest bursting happen because I'm in that scene,
but I didn't see that did the insertion of the
face hugger?
Speaker 2 (06:56):
But it is it was all practical.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
I was shocked too, So I afterwards, after watching that
sequence and the whole movie, I went to Fede and
I asked him, I said, is this real?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Is this real? Is this real? And is this real?
And he said yes to all of it?
Speaker 3 (07:06):
So all the things that you're like, how the hell
they ended up doing it?
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Somehow?
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Practically this movie looks so well, all right, you've seen
the final cut of the movie, right, what's that like?
Because when you're shooting this movie, you know, it's a
lot different as an actor going through it. You don't
have the score, you don't have the effects. When you
sat and watched the final cut, is it just mind blowing?
Speaker 3 (07:25):
I think the most rewarding part is when it turns
out exactly as you'd hoped. You know, what you imagined
and envisioned it to be was the best part.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
I think.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Also as a musician, the soundtrack was like heartbreaking and beautiful,
and they did a phenomenal job. Fede would send us
WhatsApp videos of the orchestra rehearsing and recording for the movie,
and it was just so beautiful. And also there is
some CGI, I mean in space space you can't I mean,
I don't think Disney can afford that. I don't know,
I don't know they probably can, honestly, I'd be impressed.
(07:55):
But they go into you know, you see the space
portions of it, and I'd never seen that, not even
during a dr which is you know, additional dialogue to record,
and that was that was insane.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
The rings, details of the rings on this planet were
just so beautiful.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
It's it's stunning the work that they put into it.
It's they saved no expense. They really put their hearts
into it.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
What's one scene we need to ask fans to watch
out for without given too much away. I know you're, yeah,
be careful with that, but what's one scene we need
to watch out for.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
I think what's important is p before the movie because
there's literally so many details that you don't want to miss.
There's so many Each scene is very important in my opinion. Obviously,
there's room to breathe. I think that it paces the
movie in a in a really smart way.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
But I mean, any of the scenes that I'm in
on it was cool.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
I think, I don't know, this is a movie you
can rewatch a lot.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
You'll learn something new every.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Time I have a feeling I will because I've seen
that the the other ones quite a few times as well.
And it's congrats on everything is better.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
I'm so glad. I literally ran into you so wild.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
I mean, it was kind of meant to be. And
I'm so cad you know you are. I don't know
what your dreams were as a kid. Probably wanted to
be an actress, you know, or whatever, or a musician.
But these dreams are it's happening.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Yeah, they weren't this big. I never pictured getting this
far at all.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
I think I had a very like I've never considered
myself a cynic, but I was definitely a skeptic. I
was realistic with my dreams, I think more than anything.
So being from Ohio, being you know, the daughter of
an immigrant, I never really anticipated accomplishing even half the
things that I have. So this is weirdly humbling and
hopefully not catastrophic.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Yeah, yeah, I guess meaning you wanted to continue. Is
that what you say?
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yeah, yeah, I don't want it to be a tragedy.
I'm okay with my life being more of a comedy.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Last thing I'll say is the last time Isabella came in,
we did an interview, you know, we did all that,
and then you whip out your phone because you know,
I'm a big scary movie, horror movie fan, and the
director had sent you a clip, you know, of alien Romulus. Yeah,
and from that moment, I could not wait for this
movie to come out. And then I start seeing these
(10:09):
signs all around La you know, Romulus coming out, you
know this sixteen ewhere. I got to get Asabella to
come in, and sure enough you're walking down the hall.
So thank you for dropping in. Congrats on everything anything
else you get coming up we need to know about
or is everything else top secret? To well?
Speaker 2 (10:24):
How do you feel about the Last of Us? How
do you feel about the show? The Last of Us?
Speaker 1 (10:27):
The one with the zombies? You know what I haven't seen.
Don't tell me what happens. I'm way way way behind
on that, Okay, like two or three episodes, so I'm
way way behind on that what about.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
It though, I'm in the second season.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Shut the hell.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Yeah, I've been filming it this whole year actually, so
it's been cool.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
A Superman. I'm in the new Superman movie that's coming
on next year.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Stop it.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
It's yeah, it's cool.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
UW girl, You're a superhero now again again, Okay, now
I really got to finish the last of.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Us you do It's It's truly a wonderful show in
my opinion, before before this happened, I was.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Already a fan.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
All right, this is just the coolest thing ever. And
back to Alien Romulus. I'm such a fan. I love
scary movies, you know, horror movies so much. I'm just
I'm pumped. Thank you for hanging out.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Ah, thank you.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
At the end of every interviews, Bellelmer said, fist pump
to make it a fish fist bump.
