Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, I've got guests in the studio. It's always nice

(00:02):
to have guests come by. Lindsay Peats is a teacher
at Assumption High School.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Hih, Lindsay, Hello, how are you?

Speaker 1 (00:07):
You brought a friend these and everybody in this station
gets all excited when we see pets coming into the building.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yes, Penny Pete's is in the building.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Penny Pets. I love alliteration first and foremost. And you're
representing the Arrow Fund. Tell me about the Arrowfund first.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
So the Aerowfund is a rescue that focuses on the
most severe abuse and neglect cases and the animals here
in the Commonwealth. And Penny is an Aerofund dog that
we were lucky enough to be able to foster in
twenty twenty and then fell in love with her and

(00:46):
foster failed and officially adopted her in twenty twenty one.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
She's so sweet and looks up and she's very excited
to be in the studio. She knows she's a star,
does Isn't that nice?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
It's amazing? I mean, she knows she's wants to.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Pose right, And then you positioned her a moment or
two ago so I could take a photo which I
want to post online, love it. And she just sat
there like you got a hey, bold guy, he got
enough pictures? There get the other side there and going.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
I mean yeah, she poses, she smiles. She loves everyone.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
That's so great. It's sad that we have to have
an arrow fund, but so happy that and joyful that
we have people that swoop in and take care.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yes, I mean Penny wouldn't be here today if it
wasn't for the aerofund and the amazing donors. Her injuries
were so severe it took about a year for her
to recover, multiple surgeries, multiple infections, a lot of time
spent in the emergency vet hospital. So she is a
very expensive dog. And if it wasn't for all the
donors being able to help out, she wouldn't be here too.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
She doesn't know me. She walked right in and came
up and sniffed me. She probably smells my dog on me.
But I mean still though she's not fearful now.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
She loves everyone.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
There is no PTSD behavioral or emotion and all God
so resilient, such a sign of hope for humanity, and
she just loves everyone. She's a therapy dog now. She
goes into assumption. She also goes into other schools, works
with little kids on how to be a good pet pal,
how to meet them appropriately, and also showing that differently

(02:20):
abled animals are incredibly capable of living happy, healthy lives
and we're just trying to change the narrative for animals
like Penny.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Oh, that's so fantastic. So obviously you have to raise
money and one of them is an event that's coming up.
Is it this Friday Night?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
It is this Friday.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Monster mask Tell me about that event.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Well, the Monster Mash on Friday Night is one of
the biggest fundraisers for the AEROFUND, so we are very
excited for it. It is at the Nunley House, is
that correct? And apparently it's haunted, we've heard. But it's
an amazing time for people who just believe in the
cause of the AEROFUND to come together. There will be
a band, there will be an auction with some incredible

(03:03):
items people have donated. There are appetizers, there's a bar costion. Yes,
it's a costume contest.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Because tarot card reading.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yes, I mean it's gonna be a great time.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Yeah, sounds fantastic and it is for grown ups only.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
This is our time to let her hair down.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
I got you, Yeah, grown ups only. Tickets to the
Monster Mash are available atofund dot org. That's where you
find it, the aerofront fund dot org. So obviously you
need help throughout the whole year. Are there are ways
people can help you beyond financials? Do you need people
to foster? What do you need?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yes, fostering is one of the best ways.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
If air fund doesn't have fosters, they can't take animals
because there isn't a shelter that they say in it's
people's homes.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
So opening up your house is one of the best ways.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
And the great thing about the aerofund is they take
care of everything. So once they find the right placement,
they pay for all the medical bills, all the vet bills,
food toys, beds, anything that you might need crate, they
take care of it all financially. You just have to
provide the home, show love and also help to get

(04:17):
to learn the animals so that you can talk about
what it's like to own this animal, have them as
your pet, and what they'll be like in your house,
so get to know their characteristics, their personality.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Yeah, pennies, just full of life. Just love her. And
I don't know what she went through, but I mean
it sounds it was horrific. It's just awful that animals,
some animals have to go through this kind of stuff.
But I'm so glad she's found this passage in life
now where there's nothing but joy, and she's watching you
every time you reach for that tree bag. She knows

(04:48):
what do you do at Assumption High School? What do
you teach?

Speaker 3 (04:50):
So? I teach pe to all freshmen, and then I
teach fitness and nutrition to juniors and seniors.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
So is that tough for that transition out of eighth grade?
And then they come to high school and all of
a sudden, it's like, what you want me to climb
a rope?

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Well, the really cool thing about RPE is it's not sports,
it's not traditional fitness. So we teach lifelong wellness and
how to kind of use movement to help you mentally
physically just be a little bit healthier, So across your
entire life, not just now when you may be an
athlete or when you're younger and perfectly capable. It's how

(05:25):
do we find things that you like to do in
your future. We actually have taigi and our flexibility in it.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
That's good.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, little yoga, we've.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Done that before. Yeah, I mean all that stuff's great. Yeah,
very centering, it is, it is, it's good.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Movement is all about the mind too, and how it
makes you feel mentally.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Exactly, and so you get to help upgrade people's lives
in many ways and the hope, that's the hope.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
And then having Penny come in. We have a Humane
Action team at Assumption students who love animals, and they
are learning how to use their voice to advocate for
animals because they love me so much. They've actually gone
to the state Capitol a couple times, and we've had
over sixty students go with the Arrowfund to use their
voice to advocate for stricter abuse laws. Because if we

(06:11):
knew what happened to Penny, or we know what happened,
if we knew who did it, they wouldn't have even
been fined. And her abuse was herriffic.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
So mind boggling.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Exactly, and our students are recognizing it and they're trying
to make the change and change the narrative.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I hope that happens. I hope so Lindsay, it's great
talking to you. I'm so glad that you brought your
little superstar along here, because that's just the biggest star
I'll meet all week.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Well, she is a American Hero Dog semi finalist, you.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Know, let's go.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Yeah, yes, yeah, she wins her category, then she is
one of five.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
How do we vote?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Voting for the first round just ended, but next week
on the twenty second, if she makes it into the finals,
public voting will begin on Hero Dog Awards dot com.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
That's so great, Yes, all right, don't don't forget. The
Monster Mash costume bash for all the adults is coming
up on Friday night, seven till eleven pm at the
Nunneley House. Yes, where's that located? I don't see Hurstborn
nineteen forty south Hurstbourne Parkway and more details and tickets
are available at theerofund dot org. Thanks, ladies, I really

(07:22):
appreciate you. Thank you, Penny, You're the best. Penny Pete superstar.
