News Radio eight forty w h A.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Yes News Radio forty w h A s to.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
It's brought to you by the Kentucky Office.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Right there by.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
The way.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Safety zip, buckle up, put that phone?

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Is your headphones too loud? Is your headphones too loud?

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Listen?

Speaker 1 (00:21):
She just used hate the sound of Dwight's voice.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Say something again, say something I can say, uh an accent?
Say hey, what did anybody get the mail today?

Speaker 4 (00:30):
Did anybody get the mile today?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
This is so okay, aliens and movies have an English accent.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Anyway, we'll listen to this.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
So imagine this because my dad always to say, I
just wish I could have one good kid. I wish
I could add you and your brother together, and that
one divide by one. Just imagine if you had super
good looking Tom Sanders and you melted him with Neil's.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Accent, we had Pierce Bronson. We were just talking about it, right,
we would, Yeah, that was who it would be, right,
all right, let's get serious, let's get serious.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Let's talk about bands.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Bride Horizon dot O RG bends Bride Horizon.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Dot O RG.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
First of all, this was founded back.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
In twenty twenty three because of your loss of your son, Ben.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Can you speak on that a little bit, Neil.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Yeah, certainly he was at UK, he was a junior,
had mental health issues his soul life. Got some help
along the way, spend a lot of money. We talked
about it lost somewhere. Yeah, how expensive it is to
get good help. We got him the help that we
did what we could for him, and then Father's Day
June twenty twenty three, he jumped off a building at UK.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, and it's happens.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
The wife and I were having this conversation last night
over some tequilas, talking about how well, first of all,
healthcare systems screwed, but second all, when it comes to
mental health, it's not affordable.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
It's not affordable at all.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Offered and do suffer from depression PTSD and I go
through treatment. I gotta tell you medical rarely pays for it.
If it does, it's just a fraction of the cost.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
It is very hard. You're looking, realistically a proper help
at about six grand a week, right.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Do you think that was part of the reason that
he thought he was a burden to you?

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Because of the cost. No, I think just I'm sorry
if I put that in your head.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
No, I think he did feel like he was a burden.
Y's no question about that. He felt like he uh,
you know, we'd be better off without him, there's no
question about that. Now, his sister turns twenty one later
this week, and you know he was twenty one, and
so it's an interesting time, right, yes.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Is there's never a there's never a healing. No, there's
just a complete hole there and it's always going to
be there.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Yeah. And so you know, as I said last time
I was in at his eulogy, it spouted up probably
a little too quickly, that I wasn't going to let
his passing be in vain. And now here we are.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
What was the thing that he did tell me? Something
good about him?

Speaker 5 (03:12):
Like?

Speaker 1 (03:12):
What did he do? Was he an artist?

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Was he well, he was a super intelligent right. He
played he went to North he played soccer.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
At North round track. Oh good?

Speaker 4 (03:23):
I mean he was no good athlete to great school, yeah,
great school, super bright. I mean he was not double majoring.
And you know it's just blasting along doing his own thing.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
But it was just couldn't get out of darkness, couldn't
get out of it.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Try it and he told me we went away for
his twenty first and he said, you know, I just
I don't.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
Know how long ago.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
So what I got go down and first of all,
Suicide Hotline nine eight eight. Suicide Hotline nine eight eight.
When someone suffers from depression or mental issues, it's not
just that person that suffers, it's the family members. For example,
my wife has to deal with it with me on
the weekends. Everything you see or here on the radio

(04:01):
is not always what you get home. Life can get
dark at times, and I'll say this, there's no rational
I'll go on a downward spiral and there'll be no
rational reason why I'm there. And she'll try to explain.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
That to me. And I know that in my head,
but you're still affected with it.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
Nonetheless, it's a disease, yeah, And you know, I think
the back, you know, it's a better than I think
it was probably ten years ago.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Right.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
I think there's more of acceptance of his disease. I'm
not sure there's more help, but I think people are
a little more tolerant of what goes on.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I think that is absolutely true. Because I was growing up,
I had a different mindset on suicide than when I
met people that really or I'm sorry, when you have
it yourself and you understand the darkness and you can't
come out of it. My best friend is has got
it himself. So I used to be that guy that said,
that's an easy way out. Why'd you do that? That's

(04:55):
the blank the chicken blank way out? And now I've
learned it's the only way to turn it off. And
were you ever mad at him about it or was
it or mad at yourself?

Speaker 4 (05:06):
I think I was probably mad at myself. I mean
I think, you know, what have I you know, what
have I done or not? What have I not done?
What have we not done? What have we missed? You know?
But I mean it was a constant, even from a
younger age. He just you know, he was different. He
was just different.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Yeah, and now we talked about in the break suicides
are outpacing homicides this year in Louisville, and we just
don't know what it is. I mean's social media prescribing
the wrong drugs, which is another path. Yeah, they give
you a choice of three different ones. One of these
are gonna work. Well, great, doc, how do we get

(05:44):
to find out which one is gonna work?

Speaker 4 (05:46):
It's not a cooktail.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
No, yeah, it's crazy.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
No, well, let's let's talk about turning your scars into stars,
because that's what you've done. You lose Ben and you say,
you know what, my son's death, the suicide is not
going to be in vein. And so now you're on
a mission to provide financial support for families in need
of mental health care and even children. What's that look like.

(06:11):
I know, last year you raised over one hundred and
thirty five thousand dollars, which, by the way, well done, well.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Done, but it's not even me. But it's not even
a drop in the bucket.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
When you come we were just talking about psychiatric care,
it's not even drop in the bucket. Talk about what
we have going on, how people contribute.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
So if you remember when we were in last year,
we were still in the we were in a fundraising mode,
which put it basically, is what we're permanently in. I'm
not a financial I'm not a medical expert at all,
So I can play with finances, but I can't play
with medical. So we've teamed up with a group in
Saint Louis who are offering what are called cohorts for

(06:55):
a week, no drugs. It's like an intensive all in
you get food, you gecommodation. We're underwriting all of that.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Wow wow, okay, where's this.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
In the long term?

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Goal?

Speaker 4 (07:08):
My three year go on who knows if I hear
it or not, is to have a program just like
that here in Louisville.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Oh wow, yeah, that's the goal. It needs Wow wait
a minute, So circle back. So it's the first week
is just intense. So it's no drugs one week. One
week in Saint Louis, Palm Health runs it. It's run
by some of the top psychiatrists in that area. The
first cohort, which will be twelve people, is in June
and that is full and then we have another one

(07:36):
coming in July. And so my goal is to try
and create five or six or seven or eight of
these a year, which will help one hundred and something people.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
And what's that look like when they go and they
check in what you mentioned no drugs, I'm guessing that
if there's like a boot camp new flu exity in
any kind of prescribed drugs.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
So the way it's going to work is if you're
on our site, you'll see there's a link to the
Bright Horizons program, and within that you'll take an online quiz,
assuming you answer the questions in a manner that makes
some degree of sense. Sure, I need to remove myself
just as a sidebar from the decision making process, because
otherwise I'd give money to everybody. I know, we'd be

(08:13):
no further forward. Right, So they go through the quiz,
you know, obviously we recommend they go through the quiz.
Then they do a twenty to thirty minute interview with
one of the psychiatrists. Assuming they're within the band, and
the band's pretty wide. It doesn't if you're on one end.
If you're like Ben, you might be too far. You
may need to.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Be Is it more boys and girls?

Speaker 4 (08:34):
The first one is significantly more girls than boys.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Really, and that's a good point.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
But well, I will say there's society has a lot
more pressure on women in my in my mind.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Oh, then they do some media.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
I mean it's and they don't have anything to look
forward to. I they cana end up with people.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Like us, It's right, the future. Let's get to the
good looking guy.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Super number, good looking Tom Sanders. How do you meet Neil?
How do you get involved? Why did you get involved?

Speaker 6 (09:05):
Well, first of all, let me thank you guys for
having us. You all were great to us last year.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Well you haven't gotten our invoice yet, so I went
hold off.

Speaker 6 (09:12):
I put that on my ex men accountant. But no, seriously, UH,
doing large parts of support from folks like yourself. But
I got involved. I was fortunate enough and humbled and flattered,
uh to be invited to get involved in this by
the Strafford family. Neil and I knew each other prior
to his loss of Ben, and it just really rocked
me as well. So I kind of got involved with

(09:35):
with Neil and sort of journeyed with him, and he
asked me to be a part of this movement, part
of this foundation. I certainly don't bring a whole lot
to the table, obviously the good looks.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
But they call you the closer. You're coming in to
close the jail, Miss Abernethy.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Are you sure you don't want to leave part of
your estate to bens bid Horizon?

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Yeah? And then and with with the with the tan
he's got he've been playing a little golf, I see.

Speaker 6 (10:06):
It, and so so you know that's a good segue
to the golf. So as Neil said, we are you know,
we are in the fundraising business, because what we're trying
to do here is a little different in that we
want to offer financial assistance to those families that are
in need. And so our premiere event, if you will,
is our second annual. We have a golf outing. It's

(10:27):
going to be held in August. It's actually August the eighteenth.
It's at Hunting Creek Country Club.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Okay, my best buddy is the chef out there. Go
see Travis Hall. Travis Hall Travis Food for years.

Speaker 6 (10:39):
Right, that's right. And so we did this last year.
It was a overwhelming success. Generous partnerships, generous sponsors. And
so we have a golf outing on Monday. But prior
to that, we do something a little unique on Sunday evening.
Prior to the golf outing, also at Hunting Creek Country Club,

(10:59):
we have a silent auction, a live auction, and then
we have the Louisville Crashers this year.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Oh wow, yeah, wow, Yeah, that's crazy.

Speaker 6 (11:10):
We're more than just your kind of garden variety Monday
golf outing.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
This is so you put them on the driving range.
I guess we are not sure where where it's a neighborhood,
you know.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
I can tell you last year, as as as you
guys mentioned earlier, we raised in excess of.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
One hundred and thirty five That is crazy.

Speaker 6 (11:32):
That's net that went right into the bar that we
can now start offering assistance to these folks as soon
as this year, so beautiful. We are, needless to say,
very very happy about that. So this year we're going
to try to make the event even better than last year.
And last year was incredible. So if you are looking

(11:53):
for a way to get involved, if you'd like to
help us in any way, you can go to the
website bensbright Horizons dot org. I'd give you information if
you'd like to get involved in the golf outing, and
if you don't want to get involved in the golf outing,
but you think it would be fun to come out
on Sunday evening, we're gonna have the Louisville Crashers. We've
got some tremendous auction items, both the live auction, the

(12:16):
silent auction, and part of the admission is uh some
heavy or derves appetizers and an open bar.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
I love it and an open bar. Uh. We're all in. Yeah,
we'll get all information. We're going to put it on
social media for everybody. But I want to circle back
here because I remember remembering this wrong, that your daughter's
dorm room memory overlooked.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
So it still does. So she lives in the hub,
she's in nursing school at UK, knocking it down the
pot and go. It's incredible how resilient kids can be. Yeah, right,
lost her best friend and a bigger brother. But yeah,
she opens her living room cuttains and it's right in
front of her, the fucking lightly jumped off.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
One of the odds. It's crazy too high. Uh and
and I'm sure you're hyper vigilant on Yeah, and you'll
probably drive her crazy a little bit.

Speaker 4 (13:12):
Yeah, a little bit. I mean she's a different personality altogether.
And then we've got a younger one who's again a
different personality. I don't carry the same concerns that I
carried for Ben. I carry the concerned dad period.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
Different, different different vibe.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
One thing I do know is you can never make
sense of a suicide, and I've been through it. And
second all, you can't really make sense of depression either.
You could talk to the person.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
Yeah, I mean it comes out of nowhere to Yeah,
I mean, I mean Ben would go. I mean I
talked to him at eleven o'clock the night he worked
at Malones. By the way, shout out to Malone, who
who's been incredible for this whole process in Lexington. You know,
he went out with his girlfriend and they went out
for some drinks. You know, next thing, I gonna call

(14:01):
it four from UK Medical Center.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Does universities have enough? Do they have enough programs that
kid a kid can walk into a office or somewhere
on campus and get some help if they're having a
bad night.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
I don't want to speak for every university, but in
my humble opinion, based on the experiences I've had over
the last couple of years, there's not enough help for
adolescents in general.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
Well, thank god that you've started Ben's Bright Horizons dot
org Bens bright Horizon dot org.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
But there's a fraternity on every.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Yeah, yeah, exact trying to get financial support for families
in need of mental care. And yes we're talking about
children as well. That's how important Ben's Bright Horizon dot
Org is. Listen, Neil Stratford, super duper good looking, Tom,
Thank you so much for.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Every single year, especially when we rant this program.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
Yeah, and I just to echo what Tom said. Thank
you so much.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Foreel some more.

Speaker 4 (15:04):
I mean, we can't do it. I can't do it
without Tom and people like Tom, and Tom can't do
it without people like you, guys, So thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
We appreciate your being able to share that story too.
We really did.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
God blest you, and I'll tell you we'll see you
down the road.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Uh, let's take a short break then we'll come back. Yeah,

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Can you can we do that?

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Pushing me?

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Can we make that happen?

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Keep pushing me?

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Can you make that happen?

Speaker 5 (15:56):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Hey, listen, how's those energy bills?

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Huh?

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Are they high in the summer? They high in the winter?
Could be?

You're listening to the Tony and Dwight Show on News
Radio eight forty. Why hey, listen to me.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
I'll go blow your mind. Hear me out.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Finally a place listen you can trust when it comes
to maintenance and preventive maintenance on your vehicle.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
That's right, Tony's breaking alignment. You could trust them.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
They're not going to sell you a bill of goods
that you don't need. They just want to make sure
your vehicle is safe for you and your family. Plus
they're gonna back it out with not just a warranty, no,
a three year, thirty six thousand mile warranting. And folks,
that's on every single job that they do. Put your

as sixty five dollars a month. They have over one

(18:03):
hundred tubs ready for Listening to this immediate delivery. You
can't get that with the other places. And twelve months
same as cash makes it a Breeze for any family.
You're gonna love your Southern Comfort Hot Tubs seventy five
oh one Preston Highway. Very appropriate song from Gus Allen
after talking how suicide affects others. And I want to

(18:28):
thank I want to thank of Neil Stratford and also
Tom Sanders for coming in. And the name of the
organization is Ben's Bridehrizons dot org, benz Brighte Horizons dot org.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
What's the song about? Why is it connected, Dwight Gus,
you're the one who plays come on?

Speaker 7 (18:50):
So he wrote it for people that are with suicide.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Oh, I didn't know in the eighties.

Speaker 7 (18:55):
Yeah, oh okay, I didn't actually know until he talked
about it one time. And so just don't give up,
keep going.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Not a good way to do a segue in any
means from this to Jody Demlin on the phone right now, dude,
you're a busy guy. I saw you where they uploaded
the spring football video trying to figure out who's on
the team and who's not for the University of Louisville
football team. And then we'll get to the event tonight
for handicapping anything. Jump out at you, Jody Demling for football.

(19:21):
Jeff Brahm's third.

Speaker 8 (19:23):
Year, third year, A lot of new guys. I tell
you that twenty one transfers. They're picking up more transfers
in the spring. But the one thing that stood out
is Miller. Moss threw six touchdowns against Louisville two years
ago in the bowl game, and now he's in a
Louisville uniform.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
So that's crazy to have. That's crazy.

Speaker 8 (19:41):
I think people are going to be like, whoa this?
I mean, Tyler Schruck's gonna get picked this week and
probably the second round. He's probably gonna be, you know,
the third or fourth picking the second round this week
in the draft, and and Miller is just gonna fill
right in for what he did, I think.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
And but totally different styles.

Speaker 8 (20:00):
Oh no, no, no, yeah, yeah he's not he's not six
y five, a little more athletic and can run it,
but but boy he can sling it. And uh, it's
it's gonna be fun to watch picking up.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
They got a couple of wide.

Speaker 8 (20:13):
Receivers in this spring transfer portal that will help out
and give them some weapons.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
But yeah, it's gonna be fun. Eight home games, I.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
Know, I know. And is the Clemson game of Friday
night game.

Speaker 8 (20:26):
Clemson game is a Friday night game, and the rumor
is that week there might be a huge basketball game
that week between two in state teams that usually play
in December.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
Whoa, whoa, whoa whoa.

Speaker 8 (20:43):
So you know, I don't think the schedules totally finished,
but I know TV is messing around with.

Speaker 5 (20:52):
So can you imagine having.

Speaker 8 (20:53):
Clemson Louisville, Kentucky, Clemson in Louisville and football in the
same week.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Look, as a Louisville fan, I don't expect to win
until we get a win against those guys. So hopefully
this year Pat can get it done. All right, let's
switch to what's going down now. Monday is the start
of Derby Week. Obviously the Saturday with the mini marathon
really starts at all, so we're getting ramped up tonight.
This event was started. I think you were at the
original one eight years ago out at Mike Lennings, which

(21:22):
is I think they've got almost one hundred tickets sold
for tonight, which there's a ton of walk ups too,
So it is the handicapping event with whas Jody Dumpling,
who else is going to be on the panel with you.

Speaker 8 (21:33):
Joe, Christophick and James Scully from two Inspires dot com
and Tony. It's one of those where there are a
lot of handicap events this week and next week.

Speaker 5 (21:43):
I mean there's a ton of them, and I.

Speaker 8 (21:45):
Do a couple of them, but I will this one
is the one that is so unique because we actually
sit down for first of all, unique because you get
Mike Lennings.

Speaker 5 (21:57):
And it's the best, right, yeah, it is of this.
I mean it's not even close. Gus, have my have
my dinner ready for me when I get there, but
we'll have your behind and who do you think you are? Guys?

Speaker 8 (22:12):
We we actually played pet prep races and we take
you through like like we'll watch the you know, we
don't play a ton of them, but we played you know,
seven or eight or whatever. You can watch film and
we actually watched film.

Speaker 5 (22:24):
That's awesome you through that. We actually take you through
the prep races and show.

Speaker 8 (22:28):
You like Sandman why you know, how he won the
Arkansas Derby and what's good for that, you know, for
the for the derby and all that.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
It's also it's great. Yeah, that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
I didn't realize that I didn't realize that. Okay, so
you sent me a picture of the other day Dwight,
he goes, No, Dwight's got a horse. Now it was
all of the people that work this horse had Metallica
shirts on.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Oh we're talking, who is it?

Speaker 1 (22:51):
It's so okay, right Sandman?

Speaker 5 (22:54):
So yeah, so Sandman then the inter Sandman, you know song.

Speaker 8 (22:59):
So Sandman is uh trained by Mark Cassie, and they
sent the Metallica sent the entire barn.

Speaker 5 (23:07):
I mean, if you go out there, the entire barn.

Speaker 8 (23:09):
Is decked in nothing but metallic Metallica gear, like very
cour t shirts, you know, polos hats and all.

Speaker 5 (23:16):
This kind of stuff. They said it. They actually reached
out to Mark Cassie.

Speaker 8 (23:20):
They originally were trying to finigle some stuff to actually
be here for the Derby Man.

Speaker 5 (23:26):
Of a concert or whatever.

Speaker 8 (23:28):
But yeah, they maybe just jumped on board with Sandman,
and I figured it's the Dwight. It's the Dwight Witton. Yeah,
maybe Dwight's ever gonna be pulling for a horse.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Maybe maybe James Hatfield could have done the.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
Right us up, uh tell us the Jody. We all
know that the Bob Bafford effect good or bad. It's
great for the sport, I think because it is a storyline.
How how many how many Derbys has he missed? Is
it two or three?

Speaker 2 (24:00):
No?

Speaker 8 (24:02):
No, it's uh so that was twenty one, So yeah,
twenty two, he's missed three, he's missed the last three.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
He's missed the last three. Well, let me ask you this.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
Have you spoken to Joe Moss's husband and asked him
if he's excited to be back yet?

Speaker 8 (24:16):
You know what, They will arrive at some point tomorrow
or Thursday, and he'll be on the backside for the
first time Friday morning, and I can't imagine what.

Speaker 5 (24:25):
I don't reception.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
That's like, it's gonna be crazy.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
I'll give you fifty barn.

Speaker 8 (24:32):
Outside his barn, they had all these you know, all
the past winners of his Triple Crown, the Derbys.

Speaker 5 (24:38):
And all that.

Speaker 8 (24:39):
They have these signs and they're all painted and all that. Well,
the last couple of years they've been gone. I don't
know where they were, but yeah, took them down and
it was like a blank wall. It's they're all back
up like nothing ever happened. It's like, hey, mob's back
kind of thing.

Speaker 5 (24:51):
So it's gonna be interesting.

Speaker 8 (24:54):
How Yeah, it'll be. It'll be it's gonna be crazy,
it's gonna be a madhouse. But you know, I think
you're right. It's like, whatever side you're on and whatever
you think about Bob Baffort or Churchill downs, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
But when you say this year's Derby.

Speaker 8 (25:10):
You know, last year Derby one fifty, there was a
lot of attention paid to that because of the one
fifty and that kind of thing, and this year it's
kind of not. You're kind of looking. There's not a
whole lot of great storylines. It's one fifty one and whatever. Well,
Bob Baffort's back, So yeah, that gives you that your
story built in storyline exactly.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
I'll give you fifty bucks if you refer to him
at the press conference as mister.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
Mass don't don't don't do that. Don't do that. Uh So,
but you're friends with him, What did you say, Tony,
You're you're friends with him?

Speaker 8 (25:42):
Yeah, I mean just over the years. I mean, you know,
we were talking about it this morning. Uh, Pat forty
and I were talking like I remember the very first.

Speaker 5 (25:48):
Time he came in, you know, back in the day.

Speaker 8 (25:52):
Uh, you know, with Cavanier and you know, it's in
the mid nineties and he was he was a younger trainer.
He was all always great with the media and we
just sit back there and and shoot the stuff with
him for you know, hours to know end that he
was just kind of that guy.

Speaker 5 (26:09):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 8 (26:09):
He's like the he's like the basketball coach or the
football coach that you cover that that is very personable
and uh, and.

Speaker 5 (26:16):
Will just sit there and talk to you. And that's
how Bob was.

Speaker 8 (26:19):
And I think when you, uh, when you think back,
that was a long time ago.

Speaker 5 (26:24):
So we've been dealing with him for a long long time.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
And uh, it'll it'll be good to have him back,
but he has to he I don't care how big
of a person you think you are. Churchill Downs seemed
like they had a vendetta, like they kept hammering him
and then extended his suspension. Uh, it's probably there're gonna
be looks back and forth between him and the people

(26:48):
at Churchill Downs because they're in the same room for
the first time in a while.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
Well.

Speaker 8 (26:52):
So, no, he came here in the fall, her in
the fall and actually won. And there is a photo
of of him and uh uh, and the two main
execs in Churchill and it's kind of an awkward looking photo.
It's almost kind of like he's looking like hey, and
they're like like hey, you know, and all that kind
of stuff. So you know, but now, look, he's in

(27:13):
their biggest race. He's got two horses in the Derby.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
He's mister Derby.

Speaker 5 (27:18):
Mister Derby's mister Derby wins, yes, and he has a chance.

Speaker 8 (27:22):
He has a chance to win the race. And if
he wins, he's going to be the all time winning
his trainer in Kentucky Derby history. So I don't care
who you are or what you are, you kind of
have to put as as the entity of Churchill downs
or the management of Churchill downs.

Speaker 5 (27:39):
I mean you got to kind of put it to
his side.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Now.

Speaker 5 (27:41):
I mean, okay, it's over with, you know.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
I mean, what a great achievement for Bill Belichick.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
I mean, uh so, I mean he was compared to
that when he won last time, and then they took it,
so they were like, duck, it's it's seven. That's Bill Belichick.
I think I find it. Will he be the most
watched and most tested horses will be his horse will
it be to a certain extent that it's not fair,
or will he be he's under a microscope this week,
his horses will be.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
Oh, I know, there's no question about that.

Speaker 8 (28:09):
But I think that I think it's at in this Derby,
in this day and age that we're in, I think
they're all kind of under a major microscope, you know.
I mean I feel bad for there's I know we
don't have time to get into this today, but there's
a trainer, Lonnie Briley his name. He's seventy two years old.

Speaker 5 (28:28):
And before.

Speaker 8 (28:30):
March twenty fifth or whatever it was or February twenty fifth,
when he ran his horse Cold Battle in this grated
stakes race in Oakland, he had never even entered a
horse in a grated stakes race. Okay, And now here
he is in the Kentucky Derby. He was blown away
this morning by like ten people around him. I think
a guy like that is going to be blown away by.

Speaker 5 (28:50):
The scrutiny that, you know what I mean?

Speaker 8 (28:52):
Like he deals this every day, Yes, the same thing
every single day. Yes, he's going to get to this
and I think it's like that for everybody. But yes,
I do think Bob's Bob knows that. You know, if
you tow the line, you can't. You got to say
way behind the line, because they're gonna really be watching
him from you know, for at least you know.

Speaker 5 (29:10):
From that one.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
Oh, it's gonna be scrutinized city, all right, So tonight
I had no idea. You guys break down film at
this event. That is awesome. I think people are gonna
really enjoy that tonight. And Mike Lennings, you got Jody
and the whole staff out there, uh, you know, watching
races and saying here's how the horse went won or
here's how that good horse lost is a conversation too.

Speaker 5 (29:34):
And there's a lot of that that.

Speaker 8 (29:35):
There is a lot of that, Tony, and there's a
lot of bad luck in racing, as we all know.
So if you're really watch and you look, I mean,
that is a that's a big part of it.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
Gus, should they go to WHS dot com or just
show up and pay tonight?

Speaker 5 (29:46):
Actually you still sin go.

Speaker 7 (29:48):
To WHAS dot com and buy tickets. The show has
gone up just a little bit twenty five dollars, but
there should still be some there, and I think you
can get them at walk up I'll double check out.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
Okay, I'm pretty sure there they'll take your money if
you walk up. I'm gonna guarantee that. Now, Jody, do
you want to get your order in now? Do you
want the fish, sandwich, hush puppies? What else do you want?

Speaker 5 (30:07):
Oh? You know they know what my order is?

Speaker 1 (30:09):
Yeah, yes, order?

Speaker 3 (30:12):
Hey, Jody, just you know I always get the frog legs.
Got to eat them seductively.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Alright?

Speaker 7 (30:18):
Would you like roase pedals or carnations dropped in front
of your feet as you want?

Speaker 8 (30:24):
I would have thought nothing else, Dwight. I knew what
was gonna come out of your mouth?

Speaker 1 (30:31):
All right, Jody, tell me we'll see you tonight at
Mike Lenning's. Get there at five five thirty. Gates are
at six, but I get there early and start eating up. Man,
it's gonna be a heck of a night with these guys.
And it's I think the eighth annual. So it keeps
getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Jody, thanks are stopping
in with his brother?

Speaker 5 (30:47):
All Right?

Speaker 2 (30:47):
You got tea man fun night? Tonight be a better
better Mike Lenning's baby real quick.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
I'll remind you my wife had her book club last night.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
Oh do you mean wine drink?

Speaker 1 (30:57):
I was the entertainment, so did the dancing. But we
did get two keishes because I know you're a big
keish guy.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
I am. I like a good keys.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
We had the three egg pie it's a three three cheese,
and we got the ham and cheese keichhe they were
breakfast keishes. They were delicious, So that's what she baked up.
I made a hash brown casserole and it was really
really good. So if you like to if you like keish,
you've got to try the lots of pasta Keech thirty

(31:26):
seven to seventeen Lexinchen Road, in the heart of Saint
Matthew's is lots of pasta.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
