(00:01):
Broadcasting live across the world. Rightnow. This is the John Jay and
Rich radio program John J. Rich. New Twisters movie opens tomorrow and one
of the stars is Brandon Pereira. Is am I saying it right? Brandon,
Beta, Yo Perea or Pete, whichever one. Hey, before we
(00:23):
get into before we get into themovie, I want to tell you,
I was looking you up yesterday, right. I was like, Oh,
I wonder what he's been in thatI've seen, and I flipped that you
were in THEA. I love thatshow. That's a great show. You're
pulling my harsh things right now.Man, that's the way to get to
me the way. Oh that waslike the start for me, truly.
What happened? I mean with twoseasons and I thought, I think they
left us on a cliffhanger, didn'tthey. Yeah, we got left on
(00:46):
a cliffhanger. And hopefully one daywe could finish the OA. Hopefully we
could finish that story one day.We just got to keep pushing because first
of all, wasn't Brad Pitt behindthat too? Yeah? Yeah, Brad
t was one of our main producers. Yeah, so what happened? That's
a fascinating show, creative Oh,I don't know. You know, that
was just there's these times where there'sthings that are out of your control.
(01:07):
I just got hired to do oneof the actors, and unfortunately I didn't
have any control over if they wantedto continue or not, because I'm ready
to hop back on the train wheneverthey are. Okay, So who were
you in the OA though? Iplayed Alfonso french Sosa. In the OA,
I was one of the kids fromCrestwood that just gets taken on this
crazy journey. All let's talk aboutTwisters. Is this a sequel to Twister?
(01:32):
Is it? What? Like? How would you explain this the way
that I explained it. It's anew chapter, so basically storm Chasers in
today's day. It's just an updatedversion and new characters, fresh characters.
You wouldn't have to watch the firstone in order to watch this one at
all. There's no crazy tie ins. There's we pay homage to the first
(01:53):
film for sure, and I mean, the first film's amazing, So go
watch it if you haven't, andthen go watch Twisters right after and you'll
definitely be pleased. What do youthink is more dangerous as a guy following
around tornadoes? Are being one ofthose people who jumps in the ocean with
sharks. Which one would you leastlike to do? Oh, oh my
goodness, dude, here's the thing. Yeah, but people be jumping in
(02:14):
with short let his own. Ithink tornadoes are so unpredictable, so I'm
going to go with the danger oftornadoes. It's crampy a funnel from the
sky to the ground that can betwo miles wide, and we are just
little humans and mother Nature can definitelykick our butts. Man. You know,
(02:34):
when I've seen the trailer for itand you say there's no tie in,
I for sure felt that the GlennPowell character was Bill Paxson's son,
like following in his footsteps. That'snot I've just figured that would be a
no brainer because they look alike.Oh. I mean, you can come
up with it for yourself if youwant to do that. But yeah,
in that line, yeah, Imean they used to. They've worked together
(02:57):
before. Funny enough, Glen,Glenn, that's the late great Bill Paxson.
Where in what movie and what TVshow? I'm not sure. I
just remember Glenn saying that he washaving conversations with Paxton. I was like,
wait, well, I think maybeit was Spike Kids. Then yeah,
I know, right, that's sofunny. But no, Yeah,
they've met before, and he saidBill's a nice guy. And I found
(03:19):
out that Bill actually used to properlychase tornadoes, like he was just obsessed
with them, especially after Twister. He was just chasing constantly. So that
was just a cool little fan nuggetthat I got to find out. Hey,
so walk us through how this movie'smade, because I'm just curious.
Here we are. It's July eighteenth, the movie comes out tomorrow. When
were you on the set? Whenwere you actually filming? Is that six
(03:43):
months ago, a year ago, five years ago? Yeah, we started
filming back in May of twenty twentythree, and we were in the heart
of Tornado Alley, Oklahoma, andwe shot there and filmed there the whole
time for months. I think weended up finishing the movie in December.
Oh so those outside storm scenes withthose dark clouds that's actually happening in the
(04:03):
movie, is actually happening. Well, the thing is is that there's times
where there was storms happening, andthen there's times where there weren't storms happening,
happening, and because we're in theWe were filming in the middle of
tornado season in Tornado Alley, Sothere's these things called lightning delay, and
if there's a storm happening, likeat least two miles away, we have
(04:25):
to shut down our set and everyonehas to go inside. And then there's
one time where we were filming andI was in my trailer and it was
a lightning delay, and then thewind started picking up where it felt like
my trailer was gonna tip over, and I started texting people being like,
are we inside a tornado? Likewhat is going on out there? So
it was unpredictable for when we werefilming. So there's times where those clouds
(04:46):
are real clouds, and then there'stimes, of course where we have technology
to make it seem like the mostdangerous area weather control, that's what you're
using. Hey, I was watchingthe making of Game of Thrones, you
know, the House of the Dragon, and I'm watching this that I've seen
a million times, and they showyou how to make it and how they
made it, and I thought,I'm so stupid. I thought they were
in these giant castles and stuff, but it's literally just a table on a
(05:08):
green screen. And I was like, oh my god, I can't believe
how real that looks. Is therestuff like that? Like, is there
a scene we could look for whereyou see a twister and it's like all
that was done in another room andyou weren't there, or it was in
a green room. I'd say, well, we were on location all the
time, so we would be inthe middle of a dirt road in the
(05:28):
middle of Oklahoma outside. It's notlike we were filming this movie on a
stage the entire time. Yeah, but then how do they get the tornado
there? Gi man? Wait, wait, I feel like in Danger is
they have these jet engines where theyblow wind on the truck and they're shaking
your truck. And also they're doinglaunching rockets of ice at us, so
(05:49):
they have a ice rocket where they'rejobbing ice at us where it's like hail.
And then they have rain machines andthey have dirt and they're just throwing
anything in it to make it feellike you are inside the tornado. And
that definitely helps as an actor, because yeah, you can't even see really
in front of you at all. It's just the windshields getting bad with rain
(06:10):
ice and shaking the car. Soyou're just like, Okay, this is
far more easier to act than itwas. Just yeah, yeah, what
a cool job to be the guyworking the ice rocket. That'd be kind
of fun with it, I know, right. I almost left my part.
I was like, yo, canyou play this character? And I'm
just gonna shoot the ice rocket andeverybody homage? Sorry go ahead? No,
(06:35):
no, you go ahead? Doyou go ahead? Brandon? Oh?
I was just calling it controlled chaosand what I've been saying on the
sets, like, yes, couldit be chaotic and how they performed was
chaotic for us, yes, butit was in a controlled environment. When
you say you pay homage to thefirst movie, is that I'm guessing again
(06:55):
with just like I'm guessing about GlennPowell being related to build tax even though
you say that that didn't happen,But he's homage the flying Cow. I
wit, dude, Oh man,we we do have a bit of homage
to it. It's not a cowspecifically, but you have to watch to
find out. It's a fun bit, funny bit, and that's definitely one
of the pieces where we needed tomake our own stamp, you know.
(07:18):
But one of the homoges, ofcourse, is seeing the classic Dorothy machine
and yeah, there's just little pieces, there's nuggets that you have to pay
attention to to catch and especially ifyou have a refreshed watching the original Twister,
your your heartstrings will definitely get pulledwith this new Twisters. All right,
Brandon, Hey, thanks for jumpingon there with us. Man.
Twister out tomorrow, July nineteenth.Thank you brother here, Thank you so
(07:41):
much. Yo. The biggest screenthat you can Imax Dolby forty X.
There we go, care with yourfamily, big movie tomorrow. Let's go,
let's go. Love us
