Speaker 1 (00:00):
Senators to Katie Bridge Owins US now here in Alabama
this morning, and my gosh, Katie, I know you're Montgomery somewhere,
but twenty two degrees here in Birmingham A bit chilly
as we start.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
The weekend, no kidding. To be honest, I am not
used to this. And while I like a little bit
of cold weather, I hope it doesn't stay too too long. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Well, tonight, big game. Jacksonville State University's got Western Kentucky
in the Conference USA Championship up at JSU, and stands
are going to be called about forty degrees, So if
you go into the game, you dress warm. And I
understand you know somebody that just recently committed to going
to Jacksonville State.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Absolutely look First off, you know, I am a huge
fan there at JSU. That is where my husband's parents
both graduated, from his sister brother in law, all kinds
of things, so we have a deep appreciation for the game.
Cock so excited about what's happening there on the field
as well, pulling for them tonight. But we have a
young man from Montgomery, DJ Vinson. His parents are just outstanding.

(01:03):
He has a twin sister, Addie who is a volleyball
superstar who I can promise we will also be watching
on the collegiate level for years. But JSU got a
great one in DJ he is going to go places.
Mark it down me talking about him today. The young
man has the work ethic, the talent division, and he
is focused. So the gang Coox got a good one

(01:26):
and I can't wait to watch him on the field
next year.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
All right, very good, All right, let's talk about what's
happening with Donald Trump is assembling of the incredible team
right now for his cabinet. It's like the Avengers are
all getting behind Donald coming out of town to change
things and make things right again after the ship has
been so upside down over the last four years. The
one that's gotten a lot of attention now is Pete
Haig Seth, and I like him. He comes across on

(01:51):
Fox very well. He's a veteran twenty years as our
secretary of Defense. But yeah, it reminds me of what
they did to Kavanaugh in the common hearings. And here
we go again. And even some Republicans right down the
hall from your office or not so on board here,
So what's going on? Where do you stand with Pete
and talk to us about those opposed and why.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yes, well, I am supporting Pete and his nomination. But
let's rewind to what you said at the very beginning.
Is this not exciting? President Trump is taking a look
at these cabinets, He's taking a look at these different
departments and agencies, and he is saying, I want people
in here that are willing to execute the vision that
I laid before the American people. The American people heard

(02:36):
what Donald Trump wanted to do. They know he wants
to cut waste. They know he wants to get things
back to where they should be. And Department of Defense,
I think is an excellent example of that. You know,
gone are the days that people, you know want a
liberal ideology that being the focus of the Secretary of Defense,

(02:57):
you know, and implementing that into our military. People want
the military getting back to the basics, getting back to
what it should be, making sure that our military men
and women, that our war fighter are the best trained,
equipped and ready across the planet, looking at the challenges
in front of us, and ensuring that the warfighter and
lethality is at the forefront of what they think about

(03:20):
each and every day. And that's exactly what peak Heads
is going to do. So when I talked with Pete,
I sat down and this is one thing I've said, obviously,
give the President just an incredible deference when it comes
to selecting the men and women that he wants around them.
I want the opportunity to sit down with each of
them to just say, tell me about your vision, tell

(03:42):
me about what you believe you can achieve and this apartment, department,
how can you execute President Trump's agenda? And then I
also want an opportunity to talk about Alabama. And so
in that meeting, after we talked about Pete's vision for
the Department of Defense, getting us back to where we
need to be, recruiting retention, bringing that pride back to

(04:05):
back to as it should be our men and women
in uniform, we also talked about Alabama. I was able
to talk to him extensively about what Redstone Arsenal offers,
about the various multiple starred commands that are focused and
located there. I talked to him about why Space Command
should be relocated and the politicalization of the department. There's

(04:26):
no better example than President Joe Biden moving Space Command
or attempting to Colorado. So we talked through that. I
was able to talk through going all the way down
our four military installations and talking about here down in
the Wiregrass, Fort Novasel and Army Aviation JT. There are
multiple ways where we can create government efficiency and put
our war fighter both manned and unmanned capabilities in one

(04:50):
space there at Fort Novasel, growing that footprint and making
sure that our men and women uniform are a stronger position.
So I was able to talk in detail about Alabama
to him. We also had a conversation very frankly about
the various things that we have seen throughout the media.
And as we had that back and forth, you know,
both his answers on his vision of the department and

(05:12):
his answers to me, and those back and forth, I am.
I am excited to be supporting him and look forward
to helping him get across the finished mind.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Well, that was going to be my next question. Did
you have a chance to sit down and have him
address those things that are in the media, those things
that he says are not you know, real, And obviously
I think some of the background that came out about
him has certainly been embellished by the left and the media,
But did he address them specifically in that tay, you know,
we all have a past, we all have some skeletons,

(05:43):
we all have some Was there any discussion about, Okay,
here's what's real about this.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
That's right. Absolutely, Look and to your point, isn't that
the truth? And I am we are all grateful, those
of us who are believers to be saved by the
blood of Jesus. And as we had those conversations about
all of these things very directly, we went through the
allegations with regards to twenty seventeen, We went through the

(06:08):
allegations with regards to the alcohol, We went through the
allegations with regards to the organization. JTI left no rock unturned.
He was very forthcoming, very transparent. I appreciated the opportunity
to have those conversations. And what I am telling you
is that I am comfortable with his ability to lead

(06:29):
and I appreciate his honesty and truthfulness there in that conversation.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
I wanted to talk to you about via Bakahamaswami and
also Elon Musk and the new Department of Government Efficiency.
DOGE correct me if I'm wrong, but this is not
something that as a government agency. This is a side
they're going to be consultants, right, They don't have to
go through any Senate confirmations here. These guys are going
to do this because they've been brought in by Donald
Trump to take a look at things, as I guess

(06:55):
you would say, consulting versus employees of the government.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Yeah, that's exactly right. So when you think about what
they're going to do, they are going to be giving
these recommendations from an outside post. They're going to be
taking a look at it. Both Elon and Vivek I
went yesterday to the DOGE meeting, got to sit there
alongside many House members and kind of listen to their vision,

(07:20):
listen to Speaker Johnson talked both of them. You know,
for far too long, they realize that unelected bureaucrats have
run a red tape regime and it's having real consequences
for the American people, for our small businesses, for our economy.
And so they're going in and they're saying, how can
we be more efficient? I mean, just off of that,

(07:40):
they have found things numbers that are that are startling
about how many workers federal workers actually work in these
buildings that we're paying up boards of eight billion dollars
a year for and so looking at these government efficiencies
making things actually work. One of the things I'm hopeful
that they look at is actual work requirements for government benefits.

(08:02):
If you're an abled body, working age American without dependence,
you should be working, training, volunteering, or being educated at
least twenty hours a week in order to receive these benefits.
We saw as dogs came out the Doge Caucus. It said,
you know, about one billion dollars a month, so to speak,
is sent out on snap befits that that are that

(08:26):
are not that are not correct. I mean that it
totals nearly ten billion dollars a year when you add
it all together, and so these types of things shouldn't
be happening. We're thirty six trillion dollars in debt. That
is listen to this, That is three hundred We spend
three hundred and thirty million dollars an hour we spill.
We spend seven point nine billion dollars per day. Three

(08:48):
billion dollars of interest is added to our national debt
every day. This path is unsustainable, and the first thing
we need to do is roll back red tape, pull
the regulations back that are hurting every day Americans, and
then look for ways for the federal government to be
more efficient where the government is working for the people

(09:09):
and not the other way around. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
I mean, it's like you're talking about the deep state
and all these bureaucrats that keep coming around and have
been there for years and never go away. They don't
care about elections. They're not going anywhere. But Donald Trump, now,
I mean we're talking about ten thousand of these employees
that he's looking at kind of and moving out of
all of this mess. What's the reaction been. What's kind
of the pushback from the other side that you've seen

(09:31):
or felt?

Speaker 2 (09:32):
You know, well, obviously you do see some people hungering
down and being protective of obviously a robust, bloated government.
And I think but I think the American people listen
to me, both on the right and the left are
with us on this when you really start to think

(09:52):
about it. Once these numbers are exposed, and that's just
it too. So you have is Thatch and Elon totally
volunteer taking a look and exposing these things that to
your point, whether it is unelected bureaucrats, whether it's people
that have been there for years, whether it's just the
fully entrenched bureaucracy, would never tell the American people, and

(10:13):
the American people are going to be shocked and they're
going to demand change because at the end of the day,
these are our dollars, our tax dollars that are we
are sending and they are being used. It's going to
be people when they see some of the stuff that
comes out, it's going to be disgusting.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Honestly, Well, I'm glad it's coming out, and it needs
to be dealt with. There's so much money involved. I mean,
it just needs to be cleaned up. And you know,
I think Donald Trump in his first term learned a
lot through the presidency and now he's coming in with
that four year experience of Okay, I'm the guns of Blazon.
Now I'm bringing my crew. We can't waste any time.
I'm not going through any more lesson learnings in the

(10:51):
education process or this. I've got that as a four
year president of the United States. Now it's time to
really get after draining the swamp, cleaning things up and
fixing our budget and bringing in that office of you know,
the Management Accountability, the Office of Personal Management. They're going
to be involved in this too. And I would imagine
there's some folks that are pretty you know, restless about

(11:13):
all this that's coming down the Pike's exist.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
But you know what, this is what we need. This
is what the American people want. They want us to
shake up business as usual and they want us to
get it back to our core principles. I mean, we're
getting back to the way the forefathers envisioned this nation running.
Where we are the greatest nation across the globe, undoubtedly,
and the strength that we exhibit in all areas is
something that every other nation wants to achieve.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Yeah, you got to wake up every morning now with
a smile on your face. No in January, and Donald
Trump is right around the corner. He can't get here
fast enough. All right, Katie, thanks, I appreciate you have
a great weekend. Thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Go gang Cock, Let's go.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
That's right, Thank you, Senator Katie Bridge.
