Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the Flavor Podcast Network. You're listening to Stacis and
Charlie's Off the Record.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Record.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Welcome to Off the Record with Stacia and Charlie, who
is back from tong Yes, this is where we're talking
about things they didn't go on the radio, so they
come here and Stace and I we don't know what
Charlie's about to say, which always makes us a bit nervous.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Okay, So I'm just coming from Tonga, as you said,
and you know, it's always nice going back to Tonga.
But man, I think for me max.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Three days right, so you're very New Zealand born right now.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
I mean it's you know, I don't have much family
data there, you know what I mean. So it's it's
not like how we used to go back to tong
On back in the days, like my whole village, my
whole my grandparents, my aunties, uncles will come in get
us from the airport and it was a big deal.
Now it's a little bit different. When you land then
there's nobody to pick you up. You're just going to
get your own rental and then you're driving to a hotel.
(01:01):
You're not even staying at your family times have changed.
Speaker 4 (01:05):
Is it because no one's there anymore?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Or yeah, everyone's passed on and anyone's moved to either
Australia or America. But then we do have family, my
dad's first cousins there that's staying at the family home.
But you know, when I go there, I try to
do nice things, you know what I mean, Like let's
go take them out to dinner, because you know, they're
they're staying there, keeping the family home nice and tidy
(01:28):
in all this. But like I think one thing is
when I do go take them out to do these
nice things, I feel and this is not me having
like a little moaning session, but I just feel that
they're ungrateful for these things. Honestly, yeah, because they're like,
why why are we going to eat this place for?
Just give us the money, you know what I mean.
(01:49):
It's like it's almost like that I'm like, bro, you
know for and that's that seems just saying it out
like it's a joke.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
That's what they need, right more? Is it what they're saying?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Yeah, but because that's what they Yeah, you're right, they
would prefer like a ten dollars a little barbecue plate.
But then you give them the money, you know, because that's.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Do you follow instructions. Then I get a.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Bit confused because, like, you know, I don't know whether
they're joking or they're being serious.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
I don't think they are joking, no, I know, But then.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
You know, my dad just laughs it off. So then
I'm like, bro, make it makes sense what's happening here?
So then you know, it's got me in two minds,
Like I'm sitting there and I'm wanting them to experience
a nice dinner. It's not the place that.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
We've been, no, And I see that's the thing, is
like what you think is a trait is not everybody's trade.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, exactly, you know, And then it wasn't at all.
We left there. They didn't even know what to order,
Like they didn't even know what Where did you go?
It's called the Waterfront that's a New Zealand restaurant. Oh yeah, yeah, No,
I doesn't even know what to do, like a for
the steak, you know, steaker is bull. The lady goes,
(02:55):
do you guys, how do you guys want your steak cooked?
They're like, just cook it, you know, like that, but
they're like really, they come across quite rude and how
they how they weren't and it just put me off.
And I said that, you know, I think there's going
to be the first of the last time I were
going to do anything this. We had about thirty people
dyning with us, so there was that's it's true.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Should I go on with the island play brother?
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah? But can I just say, I feel like, you know,
with your the family that you have staying in the
in the home in your village, you said that there's
only like one direct relative now you know, staying there.
To be honest, they're like, give me the money because
they're like, we're holding it down for you guys. You
guys know you're living in America, but there needs to
(03:42):
be someone representing your direct funo that that is staying
in tong so that you guys can go home. And
so you guys, can you know, make sure people are
like you said, laid to risks and looked after and
you've got like a foot in your homeland, like because
without them doing that for for you guys, you guys,
I mean.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
It's ahika as we say, and out there and yeah
they do do howads, But such an interesting experience, like
you know, how mes unless they have Island roots Auckland whites,
because then I'm really fascinated how it feels like does
that feel like home? Is that your spiritual home?
Speaker 1 (04:14):
That's spiritual home for me?
Speaker 2 (04:16):
You know, and you've seen three days and you're done.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Yeah, that makes things like that, like now it's becoming
more of a money thing. You know, you do go
to the to the islands.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Because of what you've ended up doing for a job.
So like people know what, you know.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I think there's a lot of things that come into
like into account when it comes to going to Tutonga.
They think that one you're in a band that you
make millions, you know, to you working.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Yeah, true when it comes to radio, but see you
on TV.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
You know, it's all the stuff, and the perception is
pretty pretty funny. You get there and all of a
sudden it was hands out, hands hands.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Yeah, and that's a shame, you know. And I've heard
that from a few people that it can be like
that at times with their families, especially family overseas and
lots of different cultures cultures as well, you know, like
just assuming that they're rich and it's.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Like, no, we're not.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
I mean the moral of this whole thing is that.
I mean, when it comes to your family, just gives
them the money, Just give them away.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
From the Thanks for listening to Stace, Azua and Charlie's
