dot com. All right, our phone number if you've got
a question to ask, it's eight hundred eight two three
eight two five five and let's go to Dave. Dave welcome.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Oh, let me grab my phone, all right, Hi, Hi Gary,
thanks for taking my call you bet I have you
on running every Saturday and sometimes Sunday in the background.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Just wanted to say that, thank you. And you had
a caller earlier that had the little little flies coming
out of the drain Yes, sir, and I didn't catch
quite everything that you said, but you had recommended a product.
I have found just a simple way of doing it,
and it takes care of them for quite a while.
(02:10):
Is get a tea kettle, bring the water to a
boil and dump it down each drain hole, and that
will take care of those flies.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Very good. And yeah, there's a lot of remedies on that.
Quite honestly. I talked about the microbes that eat the grease.
Hot water will certainly flush some of that down and
certainly take care of the flies that are there. I'd
never used that, but I think that's a great tip.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
All right. Well, I just happened to hear that, and
I wanted to get the word in there. It's a
simple quick thing. Didn't have to buy anything. There you go,
great show, and I'll keep on listening. I'll eventually have
a question for you all.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Very good, Thank you very much. Yeah, A little hot
water down er, super hot water that's a good one.
I know, the vinegar and baking soda. That's one making
little traps with it, which that fella had done. He
said he got a couple hundred of them with vinegar
or apple cider vinegar and a little couple drops of
(03:22):
liquid soap, lit red food coloring in there too, a
little water and put it in a saucer. That attracts
them and you know, diminished the population that way. But
going to the source, whether it's the hot water or
the uh microbial drain cleaners either one. Uh, that's go
(03:42):
to the source, get rid of the source. That's the
easy way. All right, Let's go to Dana. Dana welcome.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
Yes, yes, I kind of deck.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
It's a twelve by twelve. It's gottenns in it, and
it's borne down quite a bit. And what I want
is gonna wood are in there. It will last through
the winter.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
So are the knots missing?
Speaker 5 (04:06):
No, it's it worn down to maybe a quarter inch hmm.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Okay, well that actually makes the project a little bit easier.
It would be like an epoxy wood filler is what
you would want to use. There's a couple I'd recommend.
In fact, if it's a few knots and it's just
worn down like that.
Speaker 6 (04:29):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
JB Weld makes a an epoxy wood filler called quickwood,
and that's with a k m. You can put that
in there. Since it's an epoxy, it's like like an adhesive.
It's also stainable, uh, stainable, drillable. The other one I
(04:51):
was gonna recommend would be a little bit more expensive
and it's probably a little bit more of an overkill.
It's called wood epos. It's by a company named Abatron. Again,
it's a pre mixed product, so it's a matter of
just lightly standing that area so we have a good
(05:13):
bondable finish and spreading that over it. They're both shrink
resistant and very hard, very very you know. And they're
both standable, both stainable, Drillable's we were wondering, I'm sorry, what.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
It lasts through the winner?
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Should okay?
Speaker 5 (05:34):
Should all right?
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Very good? Thank you, bye bye, and again you know
we'll last for the winner. Yeah, it should last. You
should probably get more than one winner out of it,
as long as it can bite onto the wood, as
long as it can it here. I know the ebitron
would epox that I talk a lot about when I
said it's a little bit of an overkill. You can
(05:58):
do large areas, so there's more guts to that product.
I guess I would say the quickwood is also it's
a it's a it's a neat little product. And depending
on I guess the size of the knots, which usually
aren't dead big, I would think that would probably get
the job done and cost at less money than the
(06:18):
wood of pox. And again it's it prepped that area,
prep that where that knot is. I thought the knot
was missing, and if you have it where the knot's missing,
of course that's a that's a hazard. And what you
can do is get underneath that with some duct tape,
so you got some support underneath where that knot was,
(06:40):
and come back and make your patch on top of
that tape.
Speaker 6 (06:43):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Let's go to Wanda, wand to welcome.
Speaker 7 (06:46):
Okay, my husband heard you talking a few weeks ago
about some kind of a deck cleaner. We've got something
on a deck. It looks kind of white and shiny,
kind of like glasses and speckles, And he said, someone
called you about that, but he didn't get the name
of what you recommended to clean it with.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Boy, I don't recall that conversation when you say white
and speckles.
Speaker 7 (07:08):
To me, it looks a little green. My husband says
it's white, and he said, you talked about something that
was white and you can't just scrape it off. It's
just in different places on the deck.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Well, I'm going to give you a couple of things.
I don't recall that conversation, not to say it didn't happen.
I just can't recall it. How old's the deck is?
It has it been around a while?
Speaker 7 (07:29):
Yeah, ten to fifteen years maybe? Okay, we've had it
replaced a couple times.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Yeah, So sometimes what happens.
Speaker 7 (07:36):
And this is on it's not wood, it's on composite.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
It's on a composite, and it's white and speckled, but
it's on.
Speaker 7 (07:45):
But the top railing is actually wood, and it's on
that too in places.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
So do you think, and I'm asking you, does do
you think it could be like a mold or a
mildew or something.
Speaker 7 (07:58):
A fun Gus says that he says it's not neither.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Were those Okay, Well, I'm going to give you two
things that we talk a lot about. I don't recall
that exact question to me when you say white speckles
or something like that, And what it really reminds me
of is almost like a SAP that would be oozing
out of pressure treated wood. Obviously that's not it if
(08:23):
it's a composite wood, and there would be no SAP
in composite wood, so that's not going to be it.
As a regular deck cleaner. We talk a lot about
using a product called oxygenated bleach, which is a powder.
It's mixed with water. You put it onto the surface,
(08:43):
you allow it to sit about ten minutes, and you
scrub it.
Speaker 7 (08:47):
Oh, is that an actual brand name.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
It's the name of a product. I don't have a
brand name of it.
Speaker 7 (08:52):
It'd be like the oxygenated bleach.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Yeah, it's a lot of times it's sold is deck.
It's got oxygenated bleach in it. It's sodium per carbon
is the actual chemical in it. Okay, so that would
be it. The other thing we talk about, and if
you don't think it would be like a product called
wet and forget, we've used that.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
It didn't affect it at all.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Yeah, because I don't think it's a mould mildew fungus
or algae. So and you know, it's always difficult to
recommend how to remove something if we don't know what
it is. So we know it's not sap. We know
it's not an algae or a fungus, so I'm not
really sure what that would be.
Speaker 7 (09:41):
Nope, it's got him stumps too, and he thought he
heard you talking about something that sounded real similar.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Nope. If anybody wants to call in with us, sug justin.
I remember Danny doesn't remember it, and I don't remember it,
but I don't know what else it would be on
a deck, to be honest with you, So maybe just
the oxygen at Bleach, which is a good standard wood
and concrete cleaner, and it's safe, so that's why I
(10:10):
bring that up. All right, we'll take a little break
and Candy you'll be up first and Marty will get
you on. If you'd like to join us, it's eight
hundred eight two three eight two five five, grab a line,

at it we go Working our way through another weekend.
It's at home with Gary Sullivan and talking about your
home project's maintenance repair, maybe a little remodeling, maybe chasing
a water leak. And I know a lot of people
have done that this year with the downpours of rain
that we seem to have had throughout the country, not
(13:36):
just where I live that in forest, but I would
see the wet, hot, cold's always something. No, But where
I'm at, I know a lot of folks working on
them well, trying to figure out where that water is
getting into their homes. And that's of course a big issue.
That's your number one enemy. All Right, to the phones
we go, Candy, Welcome, Hi, thank you. Yes.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
So, my dad used to have a bucket with something
in it, like motor oil or something that he would
keep his shovel sharp. And I heard about the Pebe
blaster you mentioned, So I'm wondering what kind of set
(14:22):
up I should have for like these tools that get
rusted and well, I have to fix my shovel.
Speaker 1 (14:30):
Yeah, yeah, Well the products that we were talking with
the friends from Blaster was a product called surface Shield.
Surface shield didn't go sharpened a shovel, but it's going
to protect it from rust. And I'm guessing that what
your dad had was probably a bucket with sand in it, yes,
(14:53):
and probably some motor oil or linseed oil or some
type of oil. Well that would you know, it's it's
not going to be as effective as surface shield that's
going to keep it from rusting for two years. But
every time he used that shovel before he hung it up,
he probably took it and you know, chopped it inside
(15:15):
that bucket a few times, which kind of sharpened the
edges and coated it with oil and he hung it up.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
Okay, So how can I rejuvenate my shovel?
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Find me a file for the get a file and
file and file the edges. Yeah, you watch landscapers. That's
the last thing they'll do when they're you know, finished
the day on the job. They'll file that thing every day, okay,
and you know they'll they'll clean it off though it'll
be pristine. You know, that's their working tool, that's their pen,
(15:48):
that's their computer. They'll wash it off and file the edges,
you know, nice and sharp, which makes using that a
whole lot easier.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
And to get the rust off. You said, it's a
surface not PB blaster but it's one of their products.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Yeah, it's called surface shield.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Okay, surface shield. Okay, so will that take off the
rust that's already existing?
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (16:14):
Oh great, So and is that like an ace or.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Yeah, that's available at any hardware store. In fact, go
to their website. Okay, it's it's Blaster Corp Corp Blastercorp
dot com and just take a look at the surface shield.
They got some videos, they got a lot of information
on there and and all their products. Really take a
(16:41):
look at that surface shield and see if that isn't
what you're looking for. But yeah, that'll keep them in
good shape, kind of clean them up. But again, just cleaning,
sharpening for where you're at. That that's certainly the key,
and then you take it from there in terms of
the rust, how it is and what you need to
do to protect it.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
Okay, all right, all right, thank you.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
You're quite welcome. Thank you, Bye bye. Yeah, I know
exactly what they're talking on. Five gown bucket. Throw a
bunch of sand in there, little yeah, mineral oil in there,
linseed oil, motor old, motor oil. Just kind of coats
that kind of cleans things up, and yeah, keep it
in good shape. All right, let's go to We're going
(17:30):
to go to some more information also, and I've had
a lot of calls on this. That's why I want
to do it, and that is on roofing, especially with
the amount of rain that we've had. Do take a
quick look, and I mean this around the gutters and
around the roofing itself. We've had a lot of wind
(17:50):
a lot of places there a lot of wind, lot
of storms. I know I inspected mine yesterday. It doesn't
take much time at all. But take a look. Get
some binoculars out there and scan the roof, scan the flashing,
scan the shingles for broken or missing shingles. Also change
(18:11):
take a look at the gutters. When a gutter is
clogged and we have, you know, these torrential downpours, what
will happen is you'll see debris that was inside the
gutter and if that gutter is clogged, it will overflow.
If you see little tiny leaves and maple seed type
(18:34):
things where it's actually sticking on the outside of the gutter,
I guarantee you your gutter is clogged. It was overflowing
also beneath that gutter around the foundation. If you do mulch,
and I think most of us all do now. And
it's not like a pine stral is not going to
show up. But I'm talking about the regular hardwood mulch
(18:55):
and stuff. And see if there's areas where you know,
we only have a couple inches is a mulch, or
you should only have a couple inches of mulch over
the landscaping beds. If you see areas where that's just
washed out again, usually a sign of gutters overflowing hitting
that mulch and literally moving away from the foundation. So
those are a couple of things I'd like you to
(19:17):
really kind of take a look at later today. Our
phone numbers eight hundred eight two three eight two five

and feel free to join us. It's eight hundred eight
two three eight two five five. Let's go to Kim Kim. Welcome, Hi, Gary, Hawaii,
doing fine, Thank you good?
Speaker 9 (22:46):
Okay, I got a year old deck. It's the timber tech.
The reil is is that like a resin made out
of a resin or something of plastic.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
I don't know which one you have, but they do
have like a a PBC railing.
Speaker 9 (23:03):
All right, Well, my question is I've been noticing down
the base of the post there's like a green I
don't know if it's a moss or something. And in
the corner of the on the floor where the timbertect
is like a little corner of green. The other day
I got some simple green a sponge and a little
(23:23):
scrub rush and I was doing that on my knees
and all of a sudden it was like I saw
it was like ninety four degrees out and I said,
there's gonna be an easy way of doing this. Now,
would you recommend when to get h You could do.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
That or you could wait till it gets a little cooler.
Was it the heat or was it just kneeling?
Speaker 9 (23:44):
Well, it's it's the neil. You know what, it's seventy
three years old, the old knees on what they used
to be.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
I hear your brother, So you know, if it's a
green tint and it's on the composite. It probably is
like a mildew or something along those lines. Sure the
wed and forget if you just have it down at
the base of those posts. Kim. They make a ready
to use one. It's in about a quart bottle with
(24:10):
a hand sprayer. You could just you know, spray that
and as long as it can get rain to hit
that and sun to shine on it, it'll work. It'll
take you know, four to four to six weeks, but
it'll just it'll just kill it and it'll disappear.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
All right.
Speaker 9 (24:28):
There's a good foot plants.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
It's not good for him, but it's not going to
kill him. And that bottle is very directional spray. You
should have no overspray, so it's really just aim and
use it, all right.
Speaker 9 (24:43):
So if I spray it on forget, do I go
over it after with the hose?
Speaker 1 (24:48):
Nope, wet it and forget it and forget it. Yep.
Speaker 9 (24:52):
All right, all right, that's all I want to know, Gary,
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Good Kim. Thanks, And I'm all about easy and that
product is all about easy. The hardest part about using
that product is patience. And I say four to six weeks,
four to eight weeks, whatever. And I've had a lot
of people call me and say, hey, in two weeks
it was gone. Well you got lucky. I've had it
where it's taken six seven weeks. Try to do it
(25:17):
on a cloudy day or a cool day in the morning.
Minimize the evaporation. Once this dry it on there, you know,
and it rains, it rewts, it reactivates at the sun.
All that kind of works with you. But all you
got to do is get it on there and leave
it alone. That's it, all right, Marty, Welcome, Hey.
Speaker 10 (25:38):
Gary, thanks for taking my call. Hey, I used a
polyurthane trim in my bathroom and I used a Brad
Naylor to put it up. And what's the best product
to use for covering up those holes.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
I'd probably use a little little clocking.
Speaker 10 (25:59):
Yeah, it's going to use a cocking. But can you
recommend a product.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Oh, you could use the dap Alex plus.
Speaker 10 (26:09):
And I don't have to paint it.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Well, you're probably gonna have to paint it. The whites
probably aren't going to match, and it is paint and
it is pain. You could probably also, I'd have to
read the label, but I'm thinking just even a little
uh like a spackling compound or something along those lines.
I mean, those are pretty small holes, right, correct, Yeah,
(26:32):
you probably use a little bit of that too.
Speaker 10 (26:35):
And I'm sorry I'm writing this down. What is the
DAP What.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Like a DAP spackling comes in a little quarter pints
half pints?
Speaker 10 (26:45):
Okay, the first one was DAP something.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Yeah, it was alex plus. But that might be a
little bit of a little more gooey than just a
little bit of spackling. I mean, those holes are so
tiny and it'll stick to that that PVC.
Speaker 10 (27:00):
Okay, And you know what. A couple of weeks I
called you and I put a nature stone in my bathroom.
And what I did was I I went over to
the drain and I poured a little water and sure enough,
the drain is cut below the nature stone.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Yeah right, yes, so it's an amazing problem.
Speaker 10 (27:22):
So I do not have to see it.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
Right if you so you're finished, it's all installed, corracked. Yes,
you like to look.
Speaker 10 (27:34):
Oh yeah, it's beautiful.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
It's beautiful stuff.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
You know.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
The one amazing things that I found with a nature
stone and again using it indoors garage floors, basement floors,
laundry rooms. Is it looks like it's rough, but you
go out there and your bare feet and walk across that,
it's warm and it's not rough at all.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (27:56):
I'm constantly walking on it with your feet. I got
it in my laundry room and my bathroom downstairs.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
Super very good. Thanks for the call. Appreciating you, bet
bye bye. You can go to naturestone dot com and
check that out if you're interested. I've got it in
the garage works well. All right, Tien, let's go to
k K. Welcome.
Speaker 11 (28:19):
Hi Gary. You were sticking out of oxygenated boats a
little earlier, but that's something that would be beneficial when
I'm washing my concrete driveway.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
Yeah. In fact, I would encourage you to use it
because it actually, you know the all what power washing
does is it it's the volume of water and the
force of the water that lifts the mold, mildew, fungus
in dirt off the driveway. When you use like wet
(28:52):
and forget or oxygenated bleach, it's actually killing the mold,
the mildew and the fungus. So and then cleaning off
the residue. The wedding forgid. You don't have to do
anything but the oxygen named bleach. Put that on first,
just like I said, use it. Put it on there.
Let's sit for ten to fifteen minutes, and then if
(29:13):
you want to hit it with a pressure washer, have
at it.
Speaker 11 (29:17):
Okay, all righty, Because I did a powerwasher earlier this
year and it's already getting a little gray dingy stuff.
I'm like, I think I didn't get everything.
Speaker 9 (29:27):
Off of that.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Well, here's the deal, and this is why I talk
about the wet and forget, and I'll tell you a
little story about it too. The wedding forget is a
complete kill of funguses and algaes and molds and mildew.
So this is probably about four years ago. But there
(29:47):
was a lady. She said, I live alone. I'm down
in Florida, and I used the wet and Forget on
my driveway except I ran out along the sidewalks and
my kid came down. Is that he goes, No, you
don't need that stuff. We'll get the pressure washer and
we'll get this. And he got the pressure out and
clean the rest of the driveway or sidewalk over whatever
(30:10):
it is. And she wrote to tell me that next
spring where she used the wet and forgets still look
brand new. But where Sun used a pressure washer, y,
it was starting to grow back because the pressure washer
doesn't kill it.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Right.
Speaker 11 (30:28):
So yeah, I've used pressure washer on the little storage
units that I've got outside, you know, where I got
my stuff in and uh, and it has done a
great job. I mean it was looking pretty dingy and
looking nasty.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Yeah, it's great.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
Yep, very good. Thank you, thank you, Kay appreciate it.
So that is one of the big advantages, the complete kill.
I I know it sounds weird because we can't see it,
but I've experienced it. In fact, I always think the
wedd and forget eventually, if people use that once a
year one it would kill what's on there now, and
(31:11):
then use it next year and just kind of stay
ahead of it will never be green. It'll always be
clean because it's a complete kill and it has a
residual effect. Harold welcome.
Speaker 6 (31:23):
Yeah, as the owner of west Side Pressure Wash and
he's serving in the southwest suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio for
the last twenty three years. My favorite composite deck cleaner
is Simple Green Composite deck cleaner you spray it on,
you brush it, and then you lightly pressure wash it
(31:44):
off and it works great. Also, Sherwin Williams has a
super deck cleaner and that works just as well on
composite decks.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
If I'm not mistaken, the super deck cleaner is oxygen
a bleach.
Speaker 6 (32:00):
Think you are correct. They work really well on the composites.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
Yep, there are some good ones out there for sure. Yeah,
so the super deck cleaner, the simple Green's fine. I
just really prefer the oxygenated bleach and the super deck
deck cleaner is a sodium percarbonate which is an oxygen
aated bleach. So you know. And then some people and
(32:26):
I you know some people he talked about the wedding
forget and that's fine too. That works really good. It
costs a little bit more, but you don't have scrub.
You just spray it on there and let nature work.
So yeah, certainly different answers there, but the same results.
We just want to make sure it's clean and we
would like to keep it as clean as we can

it's eight hundred eight two three eight two five five Elizabeth, Welcome.
Speaker 8 (36:54):
Hello.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
Yes, okay, well I would live be Elizabeth.
Speaker 12 (36:59):
I thought maybe they're with another person. Okay, So I
started a real simple project today. I have a wrought
iron railing that goes from my porch into the house. Okay,
and I thought I bought some spray paint. The o day,
I'm gonna getting a little tipped here and there, and
(37:19):
I thought I'm going to spray paint it. Well, then
I realized it's kind of rough in places. So then
I started scraping it with my fingernail, and I realized
that I could just take all of the paint off.
I got a razor blite. But of course on the
that's on the horizontal thing on the railing that the
up and down things are twisted and you know decorative. Uh,
(37:43):
it looks like there's it's rot under the white paint.
It's red. But I could scrape most of that off too,
So I assume that was russ.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
That's or it could be the primer.
Speaker 12 (37:55):
Yeah, right, I don't know, do you think I But
I'm looking at every word. I'm thinking, oh, I really
don't know. Should I go get some paint remover and
take all the paint off of a vertical thing?
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Do you think?
Speaker 13 (38:09):
I mean?
Speaker 3 (38:10):
It's rough?
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Yeah, it would be advisable to remove as much of
that finish as you can. That is what is bad there. Now,
Just remember if you have paint and it's rough, or
you have paint that can be scratched off, you're painting
(38:33):
something that's going to eventually fall off. Okay, so as
much of that as we can get off would certainly
be advisable. Now, I don't know if it's paint stripper.
I think what I would take a look at is
maybe a wire wheel for a drill, or I don't think,
or a drill that has a pet sandpaper.
Speaker 12 (38:58):
Regular Could I just take pant pantop sandpaper and just
rub it up and because the vertical things are all twisted.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
Yeah, you know, yeah, I understand, I understand, you know.
I mean you can do whatever you want. If you
want to use the uh, the paint stripper, you can.
You could use a wire brush that has a handle
on it. You could use a wire brush that attaches
to a drill that could be uh, you know, maneuvered
around there. You can use sandpaper and go up and down.
(39:28):
You could use a sanding sponge, anything to get it off.
Speaker 12 (39:32):
Okay, well I have I'm eighty four. I do have
a drill, but I don't think I have the things.
You know, I just had you the uh screw driver
and the drills. I don't think I have all that
other stuff to take it off. Probably I could buy
some grinding wheels somewhere. But anyway, but I just vendrick
should I put so? Then should I get the russ
(39:55):
and primer again?
Speaker 1 (39:57):
I would prime it. And if if we've got it
where we've taken off a lot of that finish and
we're down to the bare metal and it's not really rusted,
I would use a gray primer. If you get down
to a point where there is rusted metal still we
got to finish off, but the metal is a little rusty,
(40:18):
I would use the red primer.
Speaker 12 (40:21):
Okay, well it's never it's has to get wet, but
it's on a screened in porch, so it gets a
lot of moisture. But I don't see any rough I
didn't know this. This red stuff didn't seem like it
should be rust because it's so smooth and I can
just scrape it right off with.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Somebody probably used the red primer on their and it's
not going to hurt you whether it's red or gray.
But for heavy rusted metal, you should use a red primer.
For lightly rusted metal, it should be a gray primer,
but either one.
Speaker 12 (40:50):
Yeah, I don't see a lot of I don't see
rust particularly. It's just that I think over the years,
I've sprayed it several times and just probably needed to
go down to.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
As much as you can get off. The better, the
longer the last for sure.
Speaker 12 (41:04):
Okay, well, I doesn't have the last too long afore
if I'm concerned, but maybe for somebody else. Yep, however
you want to do it anything, Yeah, anything that lasts
a few years, I think. Okay, that's good.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
I love it. All right, thank you much for the call.
I appreciate it. We got Terry, Terry.
Speaker 13 (41:23):
Welcome, good morning, Gary, thank you for taking us.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
Well.
Speaker 13 (41:29):
We have a co barn with a metal roof on it.
The metal has been there for about forty some years.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
Okay, we've had it.
Speaker 13 (41:42):
We've had it coldd over the last couple of years.
But after being forty years old, it's starting to, you know,
show wear and tear. We've had three estimates on it
and the last one was like the lowest one. And
what the person said ested and what my husband was
wondering about, was that they weren't going to take the
(42:05):
old metal rope off. They were going to put a
water vapor paturing strips on top of the old metal
rope and put a new metal rope on top of that. Okay,
And my husband was wondering if that something that's done
all the time, because you never heard of that being done.
Speaker 1 (42:24):
Well, you know, on metal roofing, it depends on whether
is it a standing seam roof for something along those lines.
Do you remember what they were quoting? I guess a
quick answer the question, without knowing all the facts is yes,
there are some types of roof, and manufactures a roof
(42:46):
in their specifications it'll talk about, you know, running ferring
strips and putting the metal roof on top of it.
I tell people all the time, and I've gotten this question,
you know, multiple times. In that quote, it probably tells
you the manufacturer of the roofing that you're going to
(43:07):
be buying. I would get online and find out.
Speaker 13 (43:12):
It's United Metals or something because he had thing to like,
pick a color because right now we have silver and
my husband wanted something a little bit different. So it's
United Metals something or another. And the person doing it
has been doing roofs for quite a while. He did
(43:33):
the metal roof us the street from US about two
years ago, and it seems to be you know, although
that was a new barn that wasn't you know, like
metal over metal.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
Yeah, So what I'm saying is there are some manufacturers
that will allow the metal roofing to go over existing
metal roofing with firm strips exactly what he's quitting quoting.
There's other manufacturers that don't quote. So it really depends
on the manufacturer of the roofing. At first, Blush, I'm saying,
(44:06):
you're probably okay, he's been putting on metal roofing, probably
using that, and it's probably in the specifications that you
can do that. But you can ask him that question.
Thank you so much, very good, Thank you. All right,
