(00:00):
Opening this block of Sixteenth Street Mall. I'm sitting in front of Smash Burger
between Larimer Street and Lawrence Street, and I wish my guest would be sitting
here having a burger with me,although I don't know if he eats too
healthy for that. Chris Cuomo isthe host of The Cuomo Show on News
Nation weeknights, six pm hour time, and it's always great to have Chris

(00:21):
on the show. Thanks for joiningagain, my friend, appreciate it.
Who would have guessed that just smashinga burger flat totally changes the appeal.
I think they got a tasty burger, actually, and I'm not saying that
just because I'm sitting in front ofhim, Chris. They just actually brought
over some Smashburger pajamas. So ifyou can get over here real quick and

(00:43):
I give you a pair of SmashBurger pajamas. I like a nice pair
of pjs. I didn't when Iwas your age, but in my assistance,
you know, you're just trying tokeep everything gathered up and in the
right places. I like a garment. A garment. Wait are you Are
you not in your fifties anymore?I'm fifty four. You're fifty four.
Okay, yeah, this August. This August, I'm fifty four. How

(01:07):
old do you think I am,well, judging by our conversations, somewhere
between eleven and sixteen. That's awesome, awesome, Oh my gosh. I
love you. I love I lovewhat you can contribute to the stew man.
You're one of the two guys youraudience would know this. Ross is
one of the few people who doesthis gig because he cares about his impact,

(01:30):
not just his reach. And that'srare. I do a lot of
radio interviews now at News Nation Inever used to do at CNN. Yeah,
but so many of these guys.No disrespect to these men and women.
You know, everybody's trying to makea book, but that's obviously what
it's about. They're obviously trying tocurate their slice of the fringe, you
know, so they can get thatdedicated reach. Ross is not that guy.

(01:53):
Yeah, I appreciate that, andI think you're right, by the
way. I'm older than you are. Okay, So there are two things.
A lot of work. It's justclean living, my friend. Uh
So, two things I want totalk to you about in the in the
time we've got first here in Colorado, we had results that are uh in

(02:15):
our primary elections where almost every singlewhat you might call ultra maga candidate lost
and the far left fringy people likeour version of Jamal Bowman lost and of
course Jamal Bowman lost out in yourneck of the woods. What does does
this mean anything to you as abig picture thing or is it just sort

(02:36):
of anecdotes? So far means everything, means everything, and here's why,
because we are in the age ofexaggeration. Okay, people would take a
string of six events if one ofthem is out of context. That's all
I focus on is their advantage onthat one aspect that's out of context and
therefore prone to be exploiting. Soif they want to play that game,

(02:58):
those are the rules all of thenew media when it comes to our politics
and cultural development. Great, let'splay them. And these elections matter.
Robert won. I would include herin the mindless maga crowd. So she
won. So it's not a fullsuite, but just primaries. But primaries
matter more than general elections. Andhere's why. That's where the thought shaping

(03:23):
is done. If Jamal Bowman hadwon, it would have proven that an
angry AOC screaming almost incomprehensible, tryingto get people pissed off against whom.
And what I have no idea isthe new reach of the squad and that
they can say Israel is guilty ofgenocide and they can pull stunts literally like

(03:46):
trying to stop a vote within alawn and it's okay by any means necessary.
And that's not the Democratic Party nowthe Republican Party. For now,
Ross has lost this battle, butnothing is forever. Brump has dominated that
part. They are not the partyof character accounts anymore. They're not the
party of fiscal austerity, going upthe deficit when he was in office,

(04:09):
and not just because of the pandemicwe both know, with the attachment.
So they have to go through arealignment. But every time extremism loses,
the rest of us win. Yeah, And so first of all, I
agree with you that Trump's single biggestfailure on domestic policy was his lack of
care about debt and deficit. Thereare other things you can say about Trump,

(04:30):
but on domestic policy, for me, that was his biggest problem.
Lauren Bolbert won in a six wayrace, so you know, that everybody
else split the non Bobert vote. But I do want you to know we
had three other Republican primaries for congressionalseats, and in all three of them,
the mega candidate lost. Right,Yeah, I was watched them last
night. Very important, it's verygood. It has nothing to do with

(04:54):
Trump. Okay, here's the problemwith strange thinking. Opposition is a legitimate
position. Stopping other is enough, and that screws the rest of us.
You know, guys like me andyou rosso are constantly puzzled by why nothing
gets done. We know why nothinggets done. It's because the shortest roads
to success it's just saying you'll stopthe other cooperation. It's seen as a

(05:16):
weakness, compromise. I've seen asa weakness. We have to get back
to everybody not wanting to know howthe sausage is made. But they ain't
the sausage here. We're all abouthow the sausage is made, and there's
no sausage getting finished. Yeah.I agree. And you know when when
Lauren Bobert was in studio with mea week and a half ago, I
told her on the air, Isaid, I think you should try to

(05:40):
be less famous because unless your Speakerof the House or something. Generally,
members of Congress who are famous arefamous for bad reasons, and you shouldn't
be so famous. So yeah, rah, so you No, I don't
think she's gonna change. That's howshe got yeah, that's how she got
done any right now, especially unfortunatelyfor females. For females we've seen,
especially on the right, you haveto be outrageous at least the fanic is

(06:02):
a smart lady. I know sheattacks all things. Clomo, I get
it. I've had to learn tolive by being in a way that allows
me to be fair to people whoare not fair to me. That's the
only way I can do the job. I get She comes after me,
I get you, comes after mybrother. I get it. I get
it. This is a smart, competent lawmaker who has now shifted and perverted

(06:23):
herself to benefit the MAGA crowd. And we see that with females and males
too, but oversampled among females. And hopefully Volbert takes your advice that I
got it. I sort of doubtit too, because nothing's put nothing's forcing
her to do it. All right, we got about ninety seconds left.
I want to ask you one otherthings. So you were you were at
CNN for a long time. Iassume you know Jake Tapper and Dana Bash

(06:46):
pretty well. So I think alot of people, especially a lot of
people kind of in Trump world, think that they can't be fair, that
those two can't be fair during adebate. I'm a little more optimistic than
that, especially because they got toknow the whole world is watching for them
to be fair. What do youexpect? Okay, Now, I know

(07:08):
them both very well personally and professional. Both of them iced me and ghosted
me when I got fired, SoI have plenty of reason to exact some
revenge right now. And they're bothvulnerable, especially Jake. But here's the
truth. This is all bold,That's what it is. Dana Bash is

(07:28):
as straight as an at Jake Tapperhas gone after Trump absolutely because the guy
lies in a way that he hadnever seen before. Jake goes after everybody.
Okay, he does not have itin for Trump. They will absolutely
be fair. And the only thingthat's done fair other than that presupposition,
which is obviously just done to handicapthe race. The debate for Trump is

(07:55):
that they don't really matter, especiallywith the lights getting put, which I
hated. Rule the moderators are irrelevant. We shouldn't even have them. And
it's not about Dan and Jake. They're two of the best in the business
period. Anybody who thinks otherwise isnot being fair. We're just not but
the moderators. It's song about themoderators. It's about whether Trump gets tripped

(08:16):
up by setting too low a barfor Biden. If Biden comes out of
the box and his eyes are wideand he says a couple of things and
he shows that he's just simply abetter man than Trump when it comes to
how they handle themselves, it's over. I'm saying, for the purposes of
this debate and what Trump wanted tosucceed in it, so he did that
to himself. Trump by he's tellingeverybody that Biden's brain dead. He said

(08:39):
weight try. They're trying to turnthat around. Now, Yeah, they're
trying to reset those expectation of bars, but it's too late. I think
you're right. I think you're right. I hope you're right. And I
guess the next time we talked todebate will have passed and we can look
back on it. Chris Cuomo's showis on News Nation, which is most

(09:00):
watched cable news network now. He'son six pm every weeknight. I encourage
you to watch the show. I'dalso note the only television cable news show
that I'm aware of that takes calls, actual calls on the air, which
is pretty fantastic. Chris, thanksfor your time as always. Ross love
what you're doing. Thanks for lettingme be a part of me. Glad to
