Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know what. I am frustrated, Mike, because you guys
got me up at the quack of down to get
on this show. Ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Wait a minute, now, coach, this is uh, this is
this is seven thirty eight. It's the crack of dawn.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
It's the quack of don.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Oh okay, I see, let's see. I got a Probably
I'm the one a little sleepy I missed at the pond.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
It's the quack man, the quack of don. Yes, yes,
this game is Oregon. You know, got me acting like
a strange duck.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
You're starting to sound like Bill Conley, a little bit royan.
That concerns me. I don't know if we can do fun.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Hey, listen, listen. These these insults are like water off
of a dust pat.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Right now, do you have any more? You want to
get out of the way? Should I just stand back
and let you go?
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Last night, you know, I was eating some pizza, man,
and you know then I was feeling kind of sick,
and I was trying to figure out if I was
in Oregon around all the ducks, where would I go
if I was sick? And somebody told me I would
go to the ductor.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
All right, all right, that one you are you were
okay for a minute, but that one that'll put you
over the action. So, Roy, how big of a deal
it is? Is it for these some of these young
players to go on the road at night in a
hostile environment and Eugene, Oregon, and and they're going over
(01:30):
multiple time zones going to the West coast, so their
sleep schedules are a little You know when you were
when you were playing, how big of a deal was that?
Speaker 1 (01:39):
It's a deal from a routine standpoint. You know, it's
not a traditional road trip because of how long it
takes to get there. So the schedule changes a little bit.
I mean, once you touch down, you're adrenaline that starts
to kick in. You realize that this is one of
the biggest games you'll ever play in up until this
point in the season. You're talking about the number two
team in the country versus number three team in the country.
(02:00):
All eyes will be on this football game. So these
guys understand the magnitude of the game and with that stake,
the routine changes a little bit. But once you get
your feet on the ground, you get a chance to
kind of like feel the environment. You walk through the stadium,
you go to the locker room, you start to envision
yourself making plays. But for starters, you know, it takes
(02:22):
a little bit of a toll on you, a little
bit the more you're in that plane. But once it's
time to play football, those got to be ready.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
So I know, you skill guys, you know out wide,
you know, looking to catch the ball. You know, don't
want to talk too much about the games being won
or lost in the trenches with some of these these
big guns. You know, you've got oregans O line, which
is they returned a lot of starters this year. They're
a little bit beat up. They've allowed seven sacks so
far this year. They need to protect Dylan Gabriel against
(02:50):
a really kind of gelling osu aggressive defensive line. To me,
that's gonna be the story of the game is keeping
that Ducks offense off the field.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
You're absolutely right, Mike. I mean they're averaging four hundred
and sixty yards a game and have twenty touchdowns. Those
are explosive plays. Obviously, we've heard a lot about Dylan
Great Gabriel, the transfer from Oklahoma. He's thrown for about
fourteen hundred and fifty yards or so, and eleven touchdowns.
He actually leads the nation and completing completion percentage, which
(03:21):
lets you know that he's extremely accurate. And so they're
going to throw that football around. They're not averaging too
much on the ground, but they're going to throw the
football around. I mean, he has games where he's thrown
fifty passes in the game before, So that Buckeye secondary
is gonna be up for the task. But the offensive
line for Oregon is going to have to block for him.
I really don't care if they block for him or not.
(03:42):
I would prefer that they they they can let the
guys through as much as they want to. I mean,
I prefer for us to get sacks. But if they're
going to have any success, they're going to have to
be able to throw the football. I don't think that
they'll be able to hold up against our defensive line,
and our secondary has been playing lights out. We got
two locked down corners, should be able to slow down
(04:04):
those receivers. Ted Johnson he's a good one for Oregon,
but we got some good ones on the outside as well,
So I'm looking forward to seeing those matchups. But they
have a great offense for sure.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Roy one of the stats that jumped out at me
was success in the red zone Oregon, is it surprised
me actually seventy seven percent inside the twenty yard line,
whereas Ohio State is one hundred percent with you know,
all touchdowns and just one field goal. Do you feel
it's important for Ohio State to score quickly? They've been
a second half team. But if they have success in
(04:36):
the first half, does that put Oregon at a real disadvantage.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
I think Oregon can go toe to toe with you
from a scoring standpoint. I think you hit it on
the head camp like you have to score. But I
want to see us score from the trenches. I want
to see us running the football. Earlier this year, Oregon
struggled with Boise State and they're great running back in
Jenti over there. And so if we we established that
two headed running back monster that we have with Treyvon
(05:03):
Henderson and Hugh Jenkins, I think we can we can
show up front and set the tempo and be the
bullies that we are in the Big Ten. Up front
in the trenches, it's okay to throw, you know, spectacular
passes to the outside receivers. I've obviously played receiver, so
you know, I love seeing those guys go up and
make one handed grabs and those sorts of things. But
(05:23):
if we can set the tone running the football and
score quickly that way, I think it'll get Morgan on their.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Heels and they'll know there for a long even Troy
Hall Junior part of our best Buckeye coverage. You can
catch the pregame show tomorrow night five o'clock along with
Matt McCoy, Bill Conley, Jeff Logan, Roy Hall Junior joining us.
And you know, to Campy's point about the Buckeyes getting
off to an early quick start, which they typically have
not done, the Ducks have gone thirty four and one
(05:50):
at home in Austin Stadium since twenty eighteen. That's a
that's a stat that should not be discounted. But if
the Buckeyes can jump up and get ahead by ten
or fourteen points, take that crowd out of it. I
ain't that bows very well for OSU.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
My goodness, Mike, you man, you've definitely got your Ducks
in a row with all the man My goodness, no,
you're absolutely right. I think here's the thing going on
and away trip. It's never easy. It's hard to win
football games in college football, specifically when you go to
one of the loudest stadiums in the country, and when
you take these West Coast trips, which is the first
(06:24):
one for us in a long time, guys have to
get their mind right. I think if we go in there,
it's a business trip. What you want to do is
jump on those guys early, get that crowd to quiet down,
get that energy down, and steal it from them. You
literally want to go inside their home and take what's
not yours and make them feel like they can't do
(06:45):
anything about it. And so these guys will be fired up.
I mean, you've been listening to the interviews coach Tip
Kelly will be fired up. You know. It's nothing like
being able to be with your your and your new
relationship and see your ex and say, hey, I'm doing
much better since i've been with you. Right, And so
I know it's been a little bit since he's been
in Oregon, but I'm sure he'll have a chip chip
(07:08):
him on his shoulder. There you go, Look at that.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Look at that. I think buck eyes are favored from
anywhere between three and a half and four and a
half points. I like to score like buck Eyes twenty
eight Oregon twenty two. They like to go for two,
so I always like, I always think there's gonna be
a weird score there when Oregon's playing. So I'm going
with twenty eight twenty two buck Eyes. And I want
to talk about your Gehanna Lions. Man, you had a
(07:35):
slow start. You guys have won four in a row,
of course. Roy Hall Junior, the receivers coach for Ghanna.
You've got Westernborlo Central tonight.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Yeah. A couple earlier in the season, Man, we were
like sitting ducks man like it was crazy, Brother, it
was crazy, but we had to we had to put
some things together. We got things on track. We're looking
forward to playing a tough Westernbilt Central team this evening
and hopefully we can get a victory. We've been working
hard all week and I know the guys are fired
up and ready to go. Friday night football is the
(08:05):
best day for football then Saturdays and Sundays. But there's
nothing like winning a football game es Central, Ohio on
a Friday night
