Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, normally we check in with doctor Bob Thompson
on Friday. He's got the morning off. Look, he's been doing.
Bob Thompson has been doing Friday mornings on this radio
station at this time slot.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
No joke, no joke, folks, for twenty five years.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
First time I had him on, I had him booked
on this show was with Bob Connors in two thousand.
No kidd, So Bob Thompson is allowed to take the
morning off instead. Our special guest this morning, going live
to Cleveland, my good friend, host of the creatively named
The Bloom Daddy Show WTAM eleven hundred.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
It's bloom Daddy, Good morning.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Oh you're slumming today with me. That's trying to tell
your listeners.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
No, man, you're probably up having a Belgian waffle with
Berry's whipped cream, chocolate chips and a little lo mimosa
on the side.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
That's my guess.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
No, No, I just rolled out of bed obviously.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
That was my second guess.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah. Yeah, long night, I mean long night. We had
coverage till midnight, so well.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
I thought of you.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
So I'm watching the Draft, I'm getting ready for bed myself.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I wanted to stay up and see what Cleveland did.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
And you know, it was during the number one pick,
and everybody knew that cam Ward was going to go
to Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
But during that pick, they stole the thunder.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
I'm seeing, you know, Brown's trade alert, and I just
started laughing. I just I see trade alert. I didn't
know who or what what was going on. I just
saw Brown's trade the second pick away. I thought about you,
I thought about all my buddies who are Browns fans.
I started texting everybody. I'm just laughing. I'm not a
Browns fan of no skin in the game, but I
just it's like a clown circus sometimes. But I got
(01:36):
to tell you, once the dust settle line at bloom Daddy,
I'm thinking, you know what, this was a really good
trade by Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Well I don't have a problem with it, but clevelanders
hate it.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Really mean.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
They had Journey playing to season ticket holders down at
Browns Stadium. And let me tell you something. Don't stop
believing most of Brown's nations stopped by when they traded
that pick. And I mean the argument is, okay, we
keep on hearing generational talent with Travis Hunter, why not
(02:08):
get the best football player in the draft on this
team we need so much. Then it was okay, if
you're not going to take him, you take a dual
cover cart Carter. Excuse me, he was another kind of
can't miss. And if you don't take him, you take Genti,
who a lot of people are comparing to Saquon Barkley.
So you've got three guys who are labeled can't miss.
(02:33):
But yet the Browns pass on all three and take
a defensive tackle from Michigan, you know, of all places.
Now I look at it this way, I think we
need defensive line help. You need somebody to help Miles
Garrett on the defensive line. You've got another pick. Now
in the second round at thirty six, you got another
(02:55):
first round or next year. Look, this team is going
to stink this year. Somebody who thinks the Browns are
gonna be get, they're gonna stink. What the Browns did
last night is they announced that they're on a three
year plan. Now, people don't want to hear that because
most people will tell you the Browns have been rebuilding
for forty years now. Yeah, and it's not work.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
They're not wrong, by the way, They're not wrong when
they say that, right, but.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
That's what they're doing. And look, these two picks in
the second round are huge, Yes, number one. If they
don't take Shad or Sanders, they should just move the
team to give it the Dayton or give it to
you guys in Columbus because they don't know what they're doing.
They got to get a quarterback, and they got to
get either a running back or an offensive lineman at
thirty three and thirty six, and you know, should or
(03:40):
Sanders still sitting there. I don't know how you pass
on this guy. I really truly don't because a lot
of people still believe he's a first round talent. And
if you're the Browns and you have been missing on
quarterback forever, and look, we could get the best defensive players, Mike,
we could get the best offensive lineman. Until they fix quarterback,
nothing going to matter because this is a quarterback driven league.
(04:02):
So you got to keep taking shots on quarterback. And
I think they've got to go with Sanders at thirty three.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
I think that will make the fans feel a little better.
And I get it. You're right, the fans want the
sexy pick.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
They want the win today mentality and that's just how
it works in professional sports, especially the NFL.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
One player is not going to make a difference.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
If they stated too and they took Travis Hunter, They're
still gonna stink this year. That's just a matter of fact.
So I like the mentality. We can get more players.
You just have to exhibit a little bit of patience.
And you're exactly right. These two picks tonight, and it's
two of the top four, the first four picks in
the second round, so they if they go and get
(04:41):
Sanders as in the quarterback position, I think your people
in Cleveland are going to feel a little bit better
about the decision.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
I do too. The problem is, if any other team
would have did what they did yesterday, people probably wouldn't
have a problem with it. But the Browns are so
dysfunctional and have been for so long that even if
it's right move, like we're talking about, Brown's Nation is
still going, they're gonna screw it up because of the Browns.
I mean, and they're not wrong, they're not wrong. So yeah,
(05:11):
a lot of I would say Brown's Nation up here
in Cleveland ninety percent hate what they did yesterday and
when they announced it at the stadium with Journey, you know,
Journey just finishing up in the background. I guess it
was met with like overwhelming booze.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
That's funny.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
That surprises me, though I know Brown's I get it,
I get it, I get it, I get it. But
you would think they would just look look look at
the bigger picture. And they've been doing look at the
bigger picture for forty years. I understand. But you know,
next year, next year's draft, when you have two number
one first round picks, two first round picks, and if
the brown stink and the Jaguars also stink, that that
(05:50):
could be two top fifteen picks.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Boom, yep, yeah, it could be the other. The other
angle here to Mike is this, this franchise has not
had a number one for the last three years because
of Deshaun Watson. So when you don't even have anything
to get excited about pertaining to the draft for three
years and you've got a chance to take this generational
player at number two and you trade it, that ticks
(06:14):
a lot of people off.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
How do they feel about Joe Flacco coming back?
Speaker 3 (06:18):
I mean, come on, what is he eighty six, eighty
seven years old?
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Yeah, but he got you to the playoffs two seasons ago.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Two years ago, and then look what he did in
the postseason. It was a pickoff machine. He couldn't even
be on Anthony Richardson last year in Indianapolis. I mean
our quarterback room. Here's the funny thing. If you didn't
know the names of the Browns quarterback room, you would
see super Bowl champion, super Bowl champion, former All Pro,
(06:46):
and then you see Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Deshaun
Watson and you're like, oh my gum, what is that. Yeah,
that's the other thing about taking Travis Hunter. Are you
really going to take this kid and put him at
wide receiver? Who the hell is going to get him
the ball? Can he pick it? Joe Flacco? I mean,
when you have when your quarterback room stinks, does it
(07:08):
make sense to go and get a big time receiver
because he's going to be under utilized, He's not going
to get the ball.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
So you think they're going to come out of the
gate tonight, first pick in the second round, Cleveland Brown's
Chadour Sanders, Boom, it's done.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Lock it in.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
No, they'll probably come out and get Barkivius Mingo, who's
in a retirement home somewhere. Who knows it's the Browns, Mike,
come on, I mean they mighty might come out and
take some placekicker from Utah. They should take Sugar Sanders,
But who knows.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Hey, what's your I want to switch gears just for
a quick sego what is your? What are you hearing
from your listeners in Cleveland? Speaking with bloom Daddy by
the way, our sister station WTAM eleven hundred in Cleveland.
What are people saying about the new brown stadium proposal,
the two point four billion dollar domed facility in brook
Park's I'll tell you what. I don't like it because
(08:01):
I don't want to pay for it. Here in Columbus,
it's kind of a wild situation. It's part politics, part
sports drama, part economic tuggle war.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
But you know, quit.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Asking taxpayers to put to build these billion dollar stadiums.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
So if the Browns were a winner and people here
actually like Jimmy has onm it might happen. You know,
they might have more support. But they hate has them
and it's like we're going to give our money to
a billionaire to build Jimmy's world. Like you've got to
be kidding me. Now. The other factor here is if
(08:36):
it goes to brook Park. Brook Park's ten minutes down
the road from downtown. Okay, Jimmy doesn't. He doesn't want
to just build a dome stadium there, Mike. He wants
to build retail, he wants to build arenas. He wants
to build basically an edge city. So you're gonna have
a city on the edge of the city of Cleveland.
(08:57):
And what's going to happen in his mind now, all
of a sudden, all the concerts they're at Cleveland Brown
Stadium and Rocket Arena and everything downtown. He's going to
try to land him out there. So in other words,
there's gonna be a big sucking sound of entertainment and
dollars out of this city to Brook Park, ten minutes
down the road. He can do major damage economically to
(09:21):
downtown Cleveland. And that's why city leaders are you know,
going at him to the nail and even you know,
state senators and things like that. So this this is
much more than just building a football stadium. This is
like the city of Cleveland, Cleveland fighting for his economic
life because of what he wants to try to do
out there. You know, Dan Gilbert owns the cabs, and
(09:42):
he's all about building downtown and renovating downtown, and hey,
let's make downtown great. And you've got Jimmy Haslam basically
giving him the middle finger, trying to do his own
thing outside of town and wreck downtown Cleveland
