Speaker 2 (01:19):
We welcome you to the Sportsplex in Alexander City as
we get ready to kick off the twenty twenty four
high school football season. Boy, you can it's hard to
cut in the anticipation right now. Both of these teams.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Are ready to go.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
There's been a lot of build up to this one.
Here today the seventy fifth meeting between Opelaka High School
and the Benjamin Russell Wildcats. You know, the Wildcats of
Beniamin Russelly lead this series thirty seven, thirty four to three.
And this one goes back a long time back when
coach McCracken was coaching in the nineteen twenties and coach
i'm will bring you in this rivalry game was a
big one in the nineties. That was the heyday of
(01:52):
this rivalry and coach I'm want to read all some
things to you here because you know when this game,
when this rivalry was really in its prime back in
the nineties, it was really really tight. Now both teams
played eleven times between nineteen ninety and two thousand, Opelika
won six, Benjamin Russell won five. Opal I like outscored
Benjamin Russell by a single point, one sixty seven to
(02:14):
one sixty six. But in the last few years though,
they've only played eleven times since going back to two thousand,
coach and Opelika has really dominated the series of late.
But you can throw all that stuff out the window
here in the twenty twenty four edition, because these kids
don't care anything about the nineties.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
They don't care anything about two or at the back.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
In twenty nineteen when these two teams played before, Smitty
Grider on the sidelines for Benjamin Russell, he wants to
win this game, and Brian Moore I think wants to
win this game really big in his coaching debut here
for the Bulldogs.
Speaker 6 (02:45):
Well, I hired both these guys about fifteen years apart.
The Smitty I hired in ninety five and Brian in
two thousand and eight, and both of them are great coaches.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
These are two very very well coached for ball teams.
Speaker 6 (03:01):
This is going to be a great game, Van, I'm
telling you, I remember our first year we played Benjamin
Russell in ninety five we came up here.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
And beat Savaree and his group.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
And then of course they've had some they've had some
great coaches here, and they've they've gotten a great tradition here.
But I want to tell you, a guy told me
one time, you need to win your first one. You
got to win your It really elevates your season when
(03:31):
you can win that first game. And so I'm sure
Brian's gonna go after it.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Hey, we're going to start.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
Eighteen seniors, three juniors, and two tenth graders, and so
you know, we're a really senior lady, and we got
thirty eight seniors on this team, and and I know
Brian Moore expects the best out of them, and he's
done just a miraculous job of getting this football team
(03:59):
put together, an organization and everything coaches, and it's a
credit to doctor Seymour and everybody involved with the program.
And I'm just like you, I'm fired up. I'm ready
to start anytime in the next twenty five minutes. But
(04:23):
I think it's gonna I think we've got a really,
really good football team and we just got to get
out and show.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
It and play and play a sound game. Great.
Speaker 6 (04:35):
We need to I told you on the way down here,
I really am concerned about our special teams.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
I want us to have a clean special teach tonight.
Speaker 6 (04:44):
If we can do that, and we just got to
win one other phase offensive defense, and I think we'll
do that all right.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Well, here from coach Brian Moore as we continue with
our pregame show. The pregame show presented to you by
Frederick Dean at Funeral Home. Countdown to kick off is underway.
Opalaika taking on Benjamin Russell here season opener. We're ready.
I know you're ready as well. Sit back and enjoy
the ride here as we bring you the action tonight
here on the kicker and want to thank all our
mini sponsors of course that made things possible. You're back
right after this pregame show present needed by Frederick Dean
(05:13):
Funeral Home.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Will sit down with Coach Moore right after this.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Now it's time for a pregame visit with Opa Lakah
head football coach Brian Moore, presented by South State Bank.
Now with coach here's Van Riggs, Coach.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
I know excitement. Finally here here we go, kick off
just minutes away here in Alexander City and taking on
the Benjamin Russell Wildcats. Just what's your feel before you
head out here tonight?
Speaker 7 (05:34):
Just excitement, you know, excited for our kids and community.
Everybody's you know, been incredibly supportive and just ready for
this moment to be here. You know. It's spent a
lot of work over really the last seven eight months
that have gone in to get to this point, and
we're just we're excited to see the kids place.
Speaker 8 (05:50):
What it's all about.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
What's the most important thing I think you want to
see out of your bunch when they come out here tonight.
Speaker 7 (05:55):
Shoot, just play hord Man, play hord Be tough and physical.
Back to bull football, you know, and getting back to
where we were in twelve and all those years where
you know, anyone coach was coach McCracken was here, you know,
getting back to those guys, that scrappy kind of underdog
type mentality that we brought to the table every week.
Speaker 8 (06:12):
You know, that's what I want to see.
Speaker 7 (06:14):
I want to see toughness and effort and playing together
and caring about each other.
Speaker 8 (06:18):
Uh. I think we're gonna see that, I really do.
Speaker 7 (06:20):
And if practice is any indicator, the people are gonna
be pleasantly surprised.
Speaker 8 (06:25):
With our kids.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
I know, a lot of attentions on the offense. You know,
you're breaking in new quarterback here on the road. I
know it would be nice to play at home, but
you're on the road. You got a new quarterback, and
then you've got some other pieces I know on offense
that you want to see tonight.
Speaker 7 (06:36):
Yeah, I mean a lot of new faces. I mean
the cues of course. You know we'll mix some match
there and uh, we'll play several running backs, six different receivers,
and then our offensive line. You know, four new starters
on the offensive line this year, and so uh, you
know we're excited about seeing them and how it jails.
And you know that consistency takes some time. But our
(06:58):
kids again and put in the work.
Speaker 8 (06:59):
Uh. Just excited to see those guys get out there
and execute.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Defensively. You've got a lot of leadership and a lot
of seniors over there on that side of the ball.
I know you want to lean on those guys a
little bit here at least early in the season.
Speaker 7 (07:09):
Got to be our strength, you know, That's what coach
Massi has done a tremendous job and his staff, you know,
of getting our kids ready to play, you know, playing
hard and playing physical and fitting right and communicating on
the back and all those things. But yeah, I mean,
you know, if Clay was any indicator those kids, you know,
we're ready to play in that game. I feel like
they'll be ready to go tonight.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
When it comes to special teams, you've got some experience
here as far as the kicking department goes, kick off
and punting, and even in the field goal department where
you could take a shot on the field goal and
feel comfortable.
Speaker 7 (07:36):
Yeah, big legs, I mean, Johnny Cecina has a huge leg,
you know, Reese Beasley can kick it, Zion Henderson has
boomed some punts, you know, feel great with Brody as
the holder, you know, and then Cam Railey snapping.
Speaker 8 (07:50):
So we're excited about the operation.
Speaker 7 (07:52):
We've worked extremely hard on that, Coach Ferguson, Coach Myers
have worked extremely hard on that, and we expect those
guys to play well.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
As a team. Coach, I know, you can get beat
up during the long summer, I know, even you know,
and you brought up the intensity level I know a
few weeks before this game tonight. How's everybody health wise.
Speaker 8 (08:08):
We feel good about where we are.
Speaker 6 (08:10):
You know.
Speaker 7 (08:10):
We had some nicks and bruises, you know, and some
guys will be game time decisions. Not many, but we
feel good about it. But when you have a physical
camp man, you're gonna have a few of those, you know. Good,
Lord's blessed us being mostly healthy. The only kid I
know that will not play is Brandon Massey, and our
prayers are with him and getting that knee healthy for track,
you know. But just excited to see the other kids go,
(08:33):
and most all of them should play.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
All right, we're talking about head coach Brian Moore. We'll
take a quick break, come back, we'll talk about Benjamin
Russell after this time out. Your let's nople like a
bulldog football here on the kicker. Welcome back. It's our
pre game visit with the head coach, Brian Moore. I'm
Van Riggs. All right, coach, let's take a look at
Benjamin Russell. I know this team made a deep run
(08:56):
in the playoffs last year. They lost some key pieces
from that team, but they've got talent. I know coach
Smitti Grider always is a prepared coach, and I know
they have his team RDY to play tonight.
Speaker 8 (09:05):
Yeah, I mean they're they're super talent.
Speaker 7 (09:06):
They did lose some pieces, but they brought a bunch
back to uh, you know, led by their receiver.
Speaker 8 (09:12):
You know that's gonna be a junior.
Speaker 7 (09:13):
He's like headliner of the twenty sixth class, Like he
is an absolute dude.
Speaker 8 (09:18):
Plays multiple positions.
Speaker 7 (09:19):
They do a great job of getting him in different
spots and getting the ball to him different ways. And
you know, he touched it a bunch in the spring
game that we're able to see. The Q does a
great job as well, great deep ball thrower, can get
the ball out quickly, great in the RPO game, good runner.
The running back eleven is a quality player and they're
huge upfront on the offensive line. I really like their
(09:39):
full back twenty four.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (09:41):
He's a good player, banger, and they look very similar
to us schematically, and so do a good job with
personnel group. He's changed that up a bunch played twenty
one eleven ten. They're gonna mix and match there, so
we have to match that and kind of get have
great eyes in the box about the people that are
coming in and out of the ball game. And then
you know, defensively for them elite end that's a twenty
(10:01):
seven kid, that's an acc guy. This is sophomore that
will be very difficult to block on the edge. Luckily
for us, Mary Smiley gives us a great look every week,
you know, in practice to get prepared. But they do
a great job and their scheme. Coach Riders an outstanding
coach and he'll have them ready to play.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
What do you have to overcome as far as playing
on the road against an opponent and their fans and
the stands here, maybe a little out of the noble
like of.
Speaker 7 (10:22):
Fans, you know, just just the nerves of being on
the road in someone else's house.
Speaker 8 (10:26):
You know, I think it's always a.
Speaker 7 (10:28):
Challenge regardless and as long as I've been coaching, it's
still you feel that way. You know, when you get
prepared for that game, you feel that anxiety and those
nerves about going into the ball game. And you know,
I know our kids will be ready to go. We'll
have to settle in early, you know, and there's been
a you know a lot of excitement. With that excitement
becomes you know, maybe again some nerves and so we
(10:48):
need to work through that. But you know, our coaches
are prepared for that. You know, we're prepared to settle
them in and try to keep our kids, you know,
locked in and not thinking about the game and thinking
about the.
Speaker 8 (10:58):
Atmosphere, just play by play.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
You know.
Speaker 7 (11:00):
It's it's one step after another. And uh, you know again,
our guys have handled everything so far. We've worked really
hard to put them in every environment, traveling in the summer,
you know, any type of spring game or fall game
that we've played to give.
Speaker 8 (11:12):
Them that game day type feel.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
You've done so much since you've been here in December
to now. I know it seems like it's it may
have flown by for some, but I'm sure it was
a long time for you to get here to this
point tonight. Just kind of your family's feelings, just your
feeling in general as you go out to kick off tonight.
Speaker 7 (11:26):
I mean surreal, you know, tonight is surreal for me
and my family and just being you know, brought up
through this program, you know, and raised through this program
through you know, with.
Speaker 8 (11:36):
Coach McCracken and Coach black Men.
Speaker 7 (11:37):
Just how much they poured into me, and you know,
I you know, I'm blessed to be here in this
in this spot and I feel that, and I feel
the weight of this community and what I you know,
what I owe this community for what it's given me. So,
you know, we've worked really hard, and we've invested and
we're completely in and we've worked just about every day
all day to get to this point. And you just
(11:58):
hope that it's enough, you know, and you hope that
you've done everything and every situation's covered and all that.
But again, our family is so excited and we just
love op Lock and we're just fortunate to be here.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Coach, We're fired up, we're ready to go. Good luck
tonight and appreciate the visit.
Speaker 8 (12:11):
Thanks Van, Go Dogs.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
That's head coach Brian Moore back with more pregame coverage
here from Alexander City. After this time out, you're listening
to Bulldog football here on the Kicker. Welcome back to
the Sportsplex here in Alexander City. I'm Van Riggloss side
coach Pitts McCracken as we continue the countdown towards kickoff
(12:33):
and our pregame show is presented to you by Frederick
Dean Funeral home coming up here in just a bit
back McCracken, he'll be roaming our sidelines and bringing us
our four seasons Federal Credit Union Sideline reports tonight, and
we are coming to you from the Orthopedic Clinic Broadcast booth,
which is high top of the sportsplex here in Alexander City.
I tell you what this, I think will be the
only grass surface that we will be playing on all season,
(12:56):
but it is one of the most outstanding grass playing
services you'll find in high school Coach McCracken. This ris
ranked right up there with I think a college type
playing surface here with alvurn Alabama, the parks and rec
and alex City.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
They do it.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
They do it right when it comes to grass.
Speaker 6 (13:10):
This is a beautiful stadium, well built and van Unless
I'm wrong, this is the highest press box that we've
been in besides Crafton.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Bowl and Montgomery, and it's just a beautiful complex. The
whole thing.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
It is all right.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
We're gonna have the national anthem here and we'll take
a quick break. Come back, Coach McCracken. We will have
our keys to the game after this time out. You're
listening to Opelika Bulldog football.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
You are listening to OPA like a high school football
here on ninety seven point seven kicker FM. And now
it's time for Coach Spence McCracken's Keys to the Game,
presented by Glen Smith, Chevrolet GMC and Opake go.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Get ready to smile.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
All right, coach?
Speaker 2 (13:59):
What do we gotta do to gain it? Comes Brian
Moore's first win here in his debut here in Alexander
City tonight.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
Well, let's look at the three phases. This is this one,
this one need gonna win the first one. We got
to play when I say good offense, don't turn the
ball over, make first downs, make at least four yards
on every running play, don't make any mistakes, throw high
quality passes, and.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Just be able to keep the football.
Speaker 6 (14:29):
On defense, we need to not let them run the ball,
make them throw the ball, put them in third down
in long situations and stop.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
They got a big wide receiver who's very good.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
We don't want to give up any big plays, man,
No big plays tonight, and play good solid defense.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
And I said this before. The kicking game is so
crucial tonight. How are we gonna punt?
Speaker 6 (14:56):
We need to punt well, we need to return punch well,
We don't need to let the ball roll and give
them extra yards on cutt returns, our kickoff returns and
our kickoffs need to be solid, field goals and extra
points everything. Like I said at the beginning, if we
can play a clean game with our special teams, we've
(15:18):
got a good chance to win. We do those things,
we'll be one and on when we leave here.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
All right, he's the game.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Broddy by Glensmith, Chevy Buick, GMC and Opalika. Get ready
to smile when we come back. Coin toss on the
way next here for Alexander City after this time out
and you're listening to Bulldog football here on the kicker.
We are back here in Alexander City, coming to you
(15:44):
from the Orthopedic Clinic broadcast booth. Van Riggs alongside coach
Spence McCracken, mag mccrack and got to be roaming the
sidelines here tonight and we're just about ready for our
captains to take the field. Court ingram Ty Hudson, Blake
Johnson and Brody Jones will be captains tonight for Opelika.
The Dogs coming out in the white road uniforms with
the black pants tonight, black numbers outlined in red and
(16:05):
one new touch to the helmets. This year, the Dogs
have scratched the script opelika on the side of the
helmets and they've gone back to the Dog's logo that
was certainly made famous by coach Spence mccrack had been
years ago coach, and I think everybody's kind of liked
going back to where the roots of this program and
when things really were at the peak of the program.
And not that a helmet decal makes a big difference,
(16:28):
and not that there was anything wrong with the opelika decal,
but I think it's just something different and something that's
put a little pip in the step of the guys.
I know earlier this week on Thursday, the seniors had
a thing called Decals with Dads, where their dads were
able to come out and put the decals on the
helmets along with their players. But we've got both teams
heading out now and let's see we get you the
We've got Caleb Kendrick a captain also to Jerius Wilson,
(16:53):
big star running back for alex City, and number twelve,
Therenzo Crawford Junior and number ten and No. Along a captain,
and we'll be headed down for the coin toss and
it's brought to you by Rentals Outdoors.
Speaker 9 (17:09):
Okay, do y'all have any issues, let us know.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
We'll take care of it.
Speaker 9 (17:14):
Okay, So if we can't take care of it, we'll
send you off to bed, all right, and make sure
all your players know that let's play hard, let's play
good sports and ship stop at the whistle. Let's help
each other up, all.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Right, sir?
Speaker 9 (17:26):
All right, Oclock.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
You are the business teams, so you get.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
To call the toss?
Speaker 3 (17:31):
What would you like to call it?
Speaker 9 (17:32):
Tails?
Speaker 10 (17:33):
All right, I'm gonna show you my coin. You heard
that tails, that's heads. That's tails, then tale?
Speaker 3 (17:42):
All right? If I drop it, we'll do it again.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
It's okay, it is heads.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
You've won the talk. What would you like to do?
Speaker 8 (17:51):
All right?
Speaker 3 (17:52):
See the Russell winds are tall.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
They will the first, all right, so we'll see ople
iin could get the football first as Benjamin Russell wins
the toss ad to first, so they will get the
football to start the second half. Ople like his offense
and that let out by newcoming quarterback here for the Bulldogs,
Colby Key, they'll get their first crackhead and we come back.
You're listening to open like a bulldog. Football here on
ninety seven point seven Kicker FM. Hold the ople like
(18:25):
the Bulldogs were first out. Now Benjamin Russell takes the
field and maroon tops, maroon bottoms, white numbers and the
maroon helmets with the b R logo on each side.
And I believe now that Benjamin Russell logo is in silver.
It is silver b R on each side of the
helmet and a silver stripe down the top. Mac McCracken's
rumming our signed lines. Let's head down for a four
(18:46):
seasons Federal Credit Union sign line report. Mac, How was
the field in the locker room before this one?
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Well, the phil was really good.
Speaker 11 (18:52):
Coach Moore just stood in the corner, stood up on
something and just addressed his team real calmly and just
told him that he was happy to be here. He
loved every single one of them, and they know why
they came up here. And then of course everybody went
wowd and ready to play football, a new era of
Brian Moore.
Speaker 10 (19:11):
So they're all excited and let's get this season off
going with the w guys.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
All right, sounds good and right now. Game conditions brought
to you by First Baptist Church Opalaika proud to sport
up like a city schools. If you can't make it
to church, make sure and listen to the entire worship
service every Sunday at eleven am.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
Right here on the kicker.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
And you couldn't ask for better weather here on August
twenty third, seventy eight, right now under mostly sunny skies.
Last year, coach, I think for the opening game we
were at Crampton Bowl, nice and cozy, but it was
about ninety eight degrees. I think it's seven o'clock.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Last I remember. Don't talk about the heat anymore.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
And I tell you you know, last year this time
they were pushing games back. Yeah, you know, it was
pretty crazy. All right, let's palls ten seconds for station identification.
W kick R Auburn Opal like his league, county's best country.
He's seven point seven kicker FN and ihearmed country station.
Benjamin Russell's got it teed up. They're just about ready
to go. The kicker for the Wildcats is Colin Murphy,
(20:10):
a sophomore and deep for of the Bulldogs. Jamari Miller
and Bennett Young back teeth end over end kicking. We'll
be returnable. Jamari Miller will let it bounce, catches it
at the eleven yard line, and Miller setting up a
pretty good return across the twenty five, across the thirty,
he's across the forty, cuts it towards the sidelines, and
(20:30):
he's got it across the forty and he's finally forced
out of bounds inside the forty thirty five yard line.
He's down all the way to the thirty two yard line.
What a big return by the playmaker, Jamari fat and Miller,
whoa coach.
Speaker 6 (20:42):
That was a big play to start the game. That
was incredibly good. Great kickoff return, That's what I'm talking about.
Get those kickoff returns.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
That's about it. How long is that one? Van about?
Speaker 2 (20:53):
He started that at the eleven yard line, coach, So
that was about sixty four yards on the.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Res beautiful, beautiful, great way to start.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Dogs will start from the thirty six yard line of
Benjamin Russell here to open up this first play from
scrimmage s.
Speaker 6 (21:09):
Right offensive line, Traymont Thomas, Kyle Efferson, Jackson Lee, Dais Whitlow,
and David Miller up front.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
I'll give you the backs when we get done, all.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Right, So the Dogs will start with Jamari Miller short
side of the field, to the left side, Brody Jones
here to the near side. Now they'll bring Miller in motion,
there'll be a hand off to Calvin Hugly bounced it
outside hugely. He's got a hole across the twenty five
Huglis goal one inside the ten five Touchdownstholos. How about
that starting to le Brian Moore era first play from
scrimmage of Calvin Hugley thirty six yard touchdown.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
That's beautiful. We had those two pullers coming out of there, KYLEA.
Empherson and Whitlow and Traymont Thomas. Great blocking up front
by those guys. Awesome.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Calvin Hugly wasted no time. Welcome to the Bulldog fans
to twenty twenty four thirty six yard wow touchdown Ruyn
for hugely big kickoff return by Jamari Miller. That what
do we say? Sixty four yard kickoff return? Yes, sir,
and then a four and then as one hundred. Well,
(22:16):
you know what, coach.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
I've never seen us do this before. That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
I was about to talk about our maskills not being great,
but we figured it up anyway.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Yeah, sixty four thirty six makes a hundred oh web ninety.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Nine snapper Cam Rayley, Brody Jones will hold and Johnny
Cecina for the extra point. It is and good one
play from scrimmage set up by a big Jamari Miller
kickoff return it was Calvin Hugley thirty six yards to
the house. Dogs on top seven h of that score
and drive powered by our friends at open lack of
power services. And we are back after this time. Out
right here on the kicker Johnny Cecina kicks it inside
(22:55):
the five yard line. It will be returnable inside the
four yard line, a misstaple and turning it up here
near side, trying to get a good return up to
the fifteen up to the sixteen yard line, and the
stunt was made by the Bulldogs by number forty eight.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
Caden Harris comes over.
Speaker 6 (23:13):
Fourteen yard return, something like that's great job by our defense. Hey,
we got Stenson, light Foot, Autree and Smiley up front,
ty Hudson and Tyler Moore at the backers, Devin Dixon
and Court Ingram at the corners. Carson Moss is your
strong safety. Tyris Pitts and Kivian King are your safety.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
This is eleven senior starting for this bulldog, Sir Gods
just looking at that. Yeah, all eyes are going to
be on number one though. That's Sadarian Morgan, one of
the top players. And he flies out to a wide
receiver lined up in the middle, and they moved over
there on the right side, and that's going to be
a procedure penalty against Benjamin Russell. Sadarian Morgan was in
the middle lining up in a trip's formation. I say
(23:52):
that he is one of the top players in the
nation in the twenty twenty sixth class, So that's right.
He is only a junior this season, and he's a
four star. Four touchdowns last year for six hundred and
twenty two yards.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
But TJ.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Wilson, the running back last year thirteen hundred yards. He's
lined up as a wide receiver, so five wide set,
three to the right, two year to the near side.
Quarterback Johnson drops back throws. It's dropped at the thirteen
yard line. He tried to get it to Norris the
wide receiver incomplete and this will be second down to
fifteen coming up here for the Wildcats.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
Right, Josh, wait to start guys. Second down long.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
Wildcats are on their own twelve yard line. Bulldogs struck
first seven to nothing. Opalaika is just eleven twenty two
left here in this first quarter. Dogs scoring on the
first play of the game from scrimmage, a thirty six
yard Calvin Hugley touchdown. If you're just joining us, here's
a hand off to Wilson. He's wrapped up and swallowed
up by Jakai likefoot right off the bat and Malik
(24:52):
Altrie also in there on the inside to help, and
that's a loss of one back to the eleven yard line.
It's going to be third down and sixteen coming up
here for the Wildcats.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
Oh nice job. Okay, here's your third and long. Now
watch the big receiver. Don't want to give them anything big,
and let's get a great pass rush. We got a
three man rush going on right now.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
Ten fifty five. We're in the first quarter.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
Dog's up seven to nothing, and the Russell Benjamin Russell,
Wildcats facing a third and fifteen. Morgan out wide to
the right side of the field. Two wide outs to
the right, single receiver here to the near side. Johnson
the quarterback drops back, flushed out of the pocket. Just
heave's one way downfield and he's got a receiver, but
he just overshot him. That's number zero the intended target,
(25:37):
Lagavius Calhoun, and it falls incomplete good coverage down field
there by the Bulldogs. That was Tyrese Pittson coverage. Devin
Jickson rather show to be punting time and the Wildcats
will sitting out Carson Spears and he will punt and
he's going to be standing right at the goal line.
So we'll see if the Dogs bring some pressure here.
(25:57):
Coach McCracken on this punter, he's actually gonna be a
few des in the end zone to our right.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
The good thing about it, we've got him backed up.
Now we're gonna get the ball about the forty here's
your kicking game right here.
Speaker 6 (26:06):
Now.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
I want to make sure that we feel this ball.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
So Jamari Miller's gonna have a chance for another good return.
Here he stands at the forty two yard line of
Benjamin Russell as the punter.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Looks like Brian's gonna run a return on him.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Punter about three yards in his end zone, puts a
quick boot into this one. It is a short punt
and Miller's gonna let it roll and it's gonna take
a good opal like a bounce, and it's gonna die
down right at the thirty three yard line. So the
Dogs are gonna have starting field position again at the
wildcat thirty three.
Speaker 6 (26:37):
They were at the thirty six on that first play
from scrib let's at about a twenty two yard punt.
Is that about right?
Speaker 2 (26:45):
See it's thirty not very long?
Speaker 4 (26:48):
Yeah, no, it was not.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
They're gonna officially mark it down at the thirty four
yard line, so that's where the Dogs will start.
Speaker 6 (26:55):
Koby Keys your quarterback tifth writer Blake Johnson's Calvin Hughleydy.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Jones, Bennett Young, and Jamari Miller.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
So the Dogs from scrimmage up seven and nothing in
there at the Benjamin Russell thirty four yard line. Jordan
Waits the tailback here for the Bulldogs. On this first
play from scrimmage. They'll move Johnson in motion, they'll give
it to Waights, and Waits was tripped up in the backfield.
He fumbled the football. But I will leave opal like
a fell on it right at the line of scrimmage,
nearly nearly lost that one right back down on it
at the thirty four yard line.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
That's no, maybe one yard, I don't know, No, along.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
In there on that stop the good linebacker for Benjamin Russell.
Second and ten for the Bulldogs at the thirty four
yard line. Key drops back floats one out to Miller
here near side of good move with the thirty inside
the twenty five and out of the twenty yard line,
and a flag comes in at the twenty yard line.
That may be an indication of a hold against Opalaika.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
It's gonna be a holding penalty. Boy, we had a
good we had a first down made. You say that's
from the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Van, it will be.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
It would be.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
Well if it was in the backfield. This is going
to be a whole the downfield. They'll they'll mark it
from the oh.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Yeah, from the start of half. That's right. Okay, Well,
we made some.
Speaker 6 (28:16):
Pretty good yards on that, so we're not going to
get hurt as bad as I Coffee.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Would ninety six remaining here in our first quarter of play.
We'll get the indication from the official here it's a
block in the back against Opalaika. Ope like a leading
seven nothing here with nine forty six. As we come
to you from the sportsplex here in Alexander City, Van
rings alongside coach Spence, McCracken and Mac McCracken down to
the sidelines, Jason Lee running the sidelines assisting us, and
(28:42):
Jeremy till is our spotder here high top the Orthopedic
Clinic broadcast booth.
Speaker 6 (28:46):
Okay, we've got to get away for it. Don't turn
the ball over, guys, hold on to the football. Play
number four here.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Dogs from the thirty nine yard line. After that penalty,
it'll be second down fifteen. They'll hand it off to
Wait's here near side. He's ripped out of aunds at
the thirty yard line, but a pretty good pick up
a close to nine yards. So this will set up
a third down and right at six for the Bulldogs.
Rodrikus Glenn Junior on the stop there for the Wildcats
(29:20):
third down and six, Coach, and I think you're in
the territory here where if you get close you may
just go for it.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
I think you're right. I think you're right.
Speaker 6 (29:28):
Epperson, Thomas Jackson, Lee Whitlow, and David Miller up front.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Jones are white out to the left and near sight
is Jabari Miller here on third and six. And this
one little miscommunication there as Colby Key ran into the
back and he'll try to fight for the first down.
He gets tackled at the twenty six Brandon Hicks comes
in and stops him short. But it's going to be
fourth and two, and I got a feeling you're gonna
see the Bulldogs going for this one.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
Yeah, I think he's going to go far.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Coby Key ran into Hugley on that place, so there
was some miscommunication there in the backfield.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Nothing ha in the backfield, correct, You got fourth and
one and a half?
Speaker 4 (30:03):
Yeah, fourth, they'll call it two from the thirty yard
line of.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Benjamin Russell knock them off the ball now, and it's
gonna be Jordan Waits, who stays in at tailback here
as kolbe Key changes the play at the line of scrimmage,
Dogs up seven to nothing, eight to fifty five running
clock here in the first quarter, Key gets the snap,
It is to Waits. Waits trying to find running room
left side. He gets enough for the first down. I
believe it's gonna be close. Benyon and Russell is saying
(30:27):
they stopped him. I think he got a pretty bad
spot over here at the twenty four yard line. Hey,
they stopped him just short.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
They didn't give us a good spot.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Tough break on the spot there, but boy, the defense
played good and right now, field position wise, it's tough
to turn it over. They didn't even measure. I don't
even think it was even close. Let's go down the field, Mac,
How close.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
Were we on that one?
Speaker 3 (30:54):
That was a lot closer than you think it was.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
I was, you know, I mean, well it is what
it is. So well the judge from this near side,
he marked him pretty sure.
Speaker 10 (31:02):
Yeah, man, it looked like he had it. But we
gotta play some defense here.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
All right. They'll be first down and ten here four
the Wildcats of Benjamin Russell. They'll have it from their
own twenty five yard line. Nothing doing for them their
last trip out, and this defense rope plaika was mighty tough.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Stop the run.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
That guys, come on Johnson out of the shot gun
play action. They'll try to get down to Morgan. He
dropped it. And a nice play over there by the Bulldogs.
I think we had some number changes. That was Carson
mass slipping in there quickly.
Speaker 6 (31:32):
Wow, just an incomplete pass. Okay, right, yeah, he dropped
the ball. Moss was in there, flying in there too.
They've only rushing for minus one yard so far. They're
O for three throwing, so.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
No gain on the place. Second down in ten for
the Wildcats. For their on twenty five yard line eight
forty one. Clock stopped here in the first quarter, Johnson
has another empty backfield five wide said drops looks here
near side, floats one down the sideline trying to get
up for Morgan. It's incomplete at midfield. Good coverage there
by the Bulldogs. That was Keevy and King and also
court ingram in there on the coverage on the big
(32:11):
fellow boy.
Speaker 6 (32:11):
They did a good job on that one. The double covereding.
So we got third down and third down in ten, Coach,
what were they trying to do there? Just throw it
up to the couch, threw it up and we double
covered he when I let that big boy go by himself.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Now all right, third down and ten here for the Wildcats,
were there on twenty five yard line eight thirty five.
The clock stopped on that incomplete pass.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
This is their sixth snap.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Three wide receivers to the left, single receiver to the
right side. Johnson drops back, rolls left side. Pressure comes,
he steps up in the pocket. He'll take off and
try to run for it. Now cuts it at the
thirty good stop there by Ty Hudson. He's going to
bring him down about a yard shy of the first down. Sure,
so this will be fourth down. Interesting to see if
Coach Grider tries to gamble here on fourth down.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
I do not think you will. Listen, he would up
fifteen years ago, but he not now. Uh, he's coming
out there with the offense. Coach, Oh, is he really.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Fourth and inches?
Speaker 3 (33:07):
Boy, this is a bit. It's a big play right here.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Now they're gonna maybe at least try to get open
like at a jump hill jump Now, No, they're going
for it. It's a direct snap to Sadarian Morgan who
runs right and he's gonna get the favorable spot to
the thirty five yard line and he's gonna have just
enough for a first down. Boy, that's a gamble. That's
a gamble running right into this hope like a defense
(33:33):
to Kyle Lightfoot comes in on the stop. He didn't
get much by half a foot, but that was all
he needed.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
That's the first turnover, first first down. Execute.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Well, that'll show you kind of the mentality of Coach
Grider in this game. He knows he's got to take
some chances. First and ten the Wildcats, for they're on
thirty five yard line, a trail seven and nothing. Toss
play here near side to the running back and he's
swallowed back to lightfoot to stop at the line of
scrimmage on running back TJ.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Wilson.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Tyler Moore coming in from the linebacker position assisting on
that one as well. Seven oh six left first quarter,
opal Like a leading seven to nothing over the Wildcats.
Speaker 6 (34:14):
They got eight carries so far and heaven zero yards
rushing the football.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
That's what we want right now. Good, just keep keep
frustrating them.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Six fifty left here in the first quarter, second down
and ten for the Bulldogs. Trips receivers in tight to
the line of scrimmage to the right, single receiver left
play action and Johnson wanted to throw and it is
hauled in and caught at the first down marker at
the forty five yard line. There is Sadarian Morgan in
his first catch and it was a big time catch
over two Opalika defenders and he's right at the first
(34:46):
down marker. Tyrese Pitts was there by the catch good
for ten yards and a first down for the Wildcats.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
That's their second first down. All right, we're okay, let's go.
Speaker 2 (35:01):
Boy. I thought Johnson was going down, Opelaika was not
able to get pressure on him. Bulldogs from they're on
forty five yard line, six eighteen left here in the
first quarter. Wildcat's moving from right to left as we
call the action here from the Orthopedic Clinic broadcast booth.
Johnson quick throw here near side, caught by Eric Young,
but he is tackled immediately by Keevi and King. They'll
(35:24):
say he picked up almost three yards though, up to
the forty eight yard line, so we'll be a gain
of three. So this will be second down and seven
here for the Wildcats. Here if time out on the field,
and we will take a time out as well. Bulldogs
struck quickly seven nothing right now, the Wildcats on a
bit of a move. We'll be back after this time
(35:45):
out right here on the kicker back here too the
Sports Place at Alexander City. Seven nothing Opelaika with the
lead over Benjamin Russell. Will be a second and seven
here for the Wildcats from their own forty eight yard line.
Hitting the backfield was Wilson spun around, broke a tackle
stays on his feet. He's down to the four and
he's got her first down for the Wildcats seven yard
run and Tyler Moore finally brings him down. But a
(36:06):
big time run by TJ. Wilson there for Alex for
a Benjamin Russell first down.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
We missed two tackles in the backfield back there.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
Five twenty nine left here in the first quarter of play.
Wildcats at the forty five Opelika. Now they'll hand it
to Wilson again left side. Good tackle there by the Bulldogs.
He was not breaking the tackle from the big fellow.
Alan Jackson, the lineman turned linebacker, comes in there, and
we see a host of recruits come in. Now, Lightfoot
will come in, an Autree will come in. Second down
(36:45):
and nine coming up here for the Wildcats at the
forty four yard line of Opalaika.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Stingy on the run.
Speaker 6 (36:50):
Good job, Mony Thomas and Josh Davis in the middle,
Jordan Stenson and TJ.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Thomas at the end. They're rotating all the down.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Lineman Johnson out of the shotgun. He's got a two
back look this time. Now he'll move one tail back
out of the backfield. He handed it to Wilson who's
slipped down in the backfield. He's gonna lose about two
yards back to the forty six yard line. He just
slipped down. This is a third down coming up here,
in a big one here, because we already saw coach
(37:20):
Grider go for a fourth and one right at his
own thirty yard line.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Here's your third down possession.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
They're one of three so far on third down, hopefully
a leading seven to nothing, four nineteen left here in
this first quarter of play, fourteen to nothing. Auburn high
already over Miami and least got winning. As we check
around the.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Scoreboard, they're two of six throwing the ball.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Here's Johnson steps up in the pocket, rolls right, throws
across the middle of Sadarian Morgan, who's got it, turns
up and spins his way close to the thirty five
yard line. He's gonna be short again to the first down.
It's another fourth and one coming up. This may be
more like fourth and two. We'll see, no question they're
going for it here at the opal like a thirty
seven yard line and they line up at the forty six. Rather,
(38:09):
it's gonna be fourth down and one quick snap to sidarium.
Morgan runs right and he's got stopped at the backfield.
Bulldogs come up with it. What a play in the
backfield tomorrow Smiley was there in the backfield to hit
him right off the bat, and the Dogs that time
come up big on fourth Dale.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
That's what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking about.
Oh that right job.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
That is a momentum killer for the Wildcats. There, all
of that coach, and you come up empty handed. And
let's see if the Bulldogs can come down and put
some points on the board here at the thirty six
yard line, and.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
You might see a big play right here.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
Dogs will take over on their own thirty six yard line.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
We've only had the ball six plays.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
Only took one to score two. Yes, Sir, Colby Key
out of the shotgun. Calvin Hugley is the tailback. It'll
be first down and ten. Brody Jones goes in motion
from right to left. Key gets a shotgun, Stamp throws
a screen pass trying to set it up to Jalen
Washington got tripped up in the backfield trying to spin
his way out of and he's gonna lose three yards
(39:08):
back to the thirty five yard line. Rodriquez Glenn Junior
on the stop there.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
Gotta do better than that. We didn't block anybody out
on the edge at time. All right, we got can.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
Back to the thirty four. That'll lose two yards.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
It'll be second down and twelve for the Bulldogs. Colby
Key out of the shotgun, gets the snap, hands it
off the time to Tommy Johnson left side. Good block
across the forty and Johnson up close to the forty
one yard.
Speaker 4 (39:38):
Line, not about five yards, close to six yards. Charles L.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Davis on the stop there for Benjamin Russell. This will
be a third down and seven coming up here for
the Bulldogs. I see how risky coach Moore wants to
be here from his own forty yard line early in
this game with a sophomore quarterback, third and seven to
forty one remaining in this first couture, and boy, looking there,
(40:06):
Benjamin Russell, that's jumping off sides. That'll be a free
five yards and that makes it a little bit easier here.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
Yeah, they gonna probably run it now, third down in
two we.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
Got I'm wondering if that was a hard count there
by the quarterback coach.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (40:23):
Bennett Young and Joe Mary Miller, Brody Jones and Blake
Johnson on outside, Calvin hughgles you're running.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
Back, all right, this is an old school I formation.
Look here for the Bulldogs with two yards to go
for the first down from the forty five, and the
Bulldogs just jumped by the end on the near side here.
Just lean forward just to here and that will bring
the play originally back out for the third and seven
as the five yards is given right back.
Speaker 4 (40:49):
I know that'll drive coach more crazy.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
Two wideouts either side here for Kolby Ke Blake Johnson
the full back.
Speaker 4 (41:00):
To his left.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
To fourteen clock running here in this first quarter, Dogs
on top seven to nothing, key drops backs, got some
time steps up in the pocket, he's in trouble. A
flat comes in and he's brought down for a sack
back at the thirty four yard line.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
That's that is a tough one, right, it's ten yards.
Speaker 3 (41:27):
You're probably going to climate.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Shut'll me punting times. Zion Henderson will come in the
hold against the Bulldogs and it will be declined by
coach Grider. And that was a five yard loss on
that sack. Two O two remaining and the Wildcats look
at a pretty good field position. Zion Henderson, a big
five to ten, two hundred and thirty pounds senior punter,
(41:56):
stands at around the twenty two yard line to catch
this punt from Kim Rayley, who will snap it from
the thirty five. And there's a big booming punt there
by Zion Henderson, and falling to the ground at the
twenty five yard line was Lagavius Calhoun. And that's where
the Wildcats will take over. A good punt there by
Zion Henderson.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
How many yards is that count? Hoss?
Speaker 8 (42:20):
For?
Speaker 2 (42:23):
You see where they mark it down ed should be
the twenty five yard line. That was a forty yard punt.
Speaker 3 (42:28):
That's what I thought. Henderson's got to get that ball
off a little quicker. That wasn't a great snap. If
they'd have brought some more people, they might have blocked.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
Down all right, just one forty six left. Actually, the
twenty six yard line is where the line of scrimmage
will be. So a thirty nine yard punt, we.
Speaker 6 (42:47):
Gotta make a we gotta do something defensively to make
a play and get a turnover.
Speaker 3 (42:53):
Van and they went about forty five yards down the flask.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Five Wildcats from there on twenty six yard line, first
down and ten minute forty six left Dogs leading seven nothing,
and here's a bounce outside run by the tailback and
he has got some runner him across the forty And
that was a touchdown saving tackle on TJ. Wilson by
Mary Smiley, who chased him down from the defensive end position.
(43:20):
And the Wildcats are gonna go quickly here, quick throw
Sadarian Morgan was the intended target across the midfield, overshot
him and a good thing too, because he was wide open.
Speaker 3 (43:31):
Sure was it's three of eight throwing the ball.
Speaker 6 (43:40):
They're getting more snaps than we're getting there keeping the
ball away from us.
Speaker 3 (43:44):
Come on, guys, big play right here.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
Second down, Dogs for their own forty or should say
Benjamin Russell from their own forty three yard line, second
down and ten and a whistle comes in and this
will go against Benjamin Russell on We got a moment.
Let's head down for a four seasons Federal Credit Union
sideline report. Matt mccrack roaming those side of lines.
Speaker 10 (44:01):
Mac, thanks, guys.
Speaker 11 (44:02):
I walked over there with coach Fleming, offensive line coach,
and he was really harping on the guys to open
up some holes, to try to get this running game
back from what it started earlier on. But you know,
we just came up short a few times and the
you know, in penalties, but you know, we got to
clean those up little still early in here. Defense is
still keeping them out of the end zone. But your
life on the sideline is still rock and rolling, guys.
Speaker 2 (44:22):
Yeah, I think it's only gonna be a matter of
time back for these teams. Just kind of settle into
the game. I think it's kind of happening right now. Yeah,
that's exactly right, all right, secking down in fifteen and
another flag comes in, another indication against Benjamin Russell here,
other movement penalty against him. It's going to be five
more yards are gonna be secing down in twenty coming
up here for the wildcare good, good, good.
Speaker 6 (44:43):
We got twenty five yards in penalties and they got
twenty Now are you talking about even and things back up?
Van Riggs. That's exactly right. Just keep putting the pressure
on their offense.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Yeah. A line of scrimmage now is the thirty three
yard line for the Wildcats, and this will be a
second down and twenty coming up now for Benjamin Russell
seven nothing ople like on top. Dogs had a big
kickoff return and then took one place thirty six yard
Calvin Hugley run for a touchdown and since then that's
been our score and so far. Second down in twenty
(45:18):
pressure comes on the quarterback Johnson and he is brought
down stopped there by Alan Jackson who flies in from
the linebacker spot and brings it down to the thirty
one yard line. So that'll be a loss of two
by AJ.
Speaker 3 (45:30):
That's a sack right there. Great job. Okay, Now you
got third down and a ton right here.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
And watch out for a high pass to number one.
Speaker 6 (45:39):
Absolutely, we need to get pressure on this quarterback too.
Now this reminds me at Auburn Alabama game right here,
except it's third down and about twenty five.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
We need to pressure this kid.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
Throws good van all right, under a minute to go,
forty seven seconds left in this first quarter, rushing three,
two receivers side for Elijah Johnson. Now he'll bring the
tailback TJ. Wilson in the backfield with him. So now
two wides to the left. Miscommunication and coach Smitty grid
are going to burn a time out here with just
thirty three seconds left here in this first quarter, seven
(46:14):
out of the Bulldogs on top time out on the field.
We'll be back after this. You're listening to Bulldog football
here on the kicker. Well, welcome you back to the
sports Plax here in Alexander City. Vandrings alongside coach Vince McCracken.
Mac McCracken roam of the sidelines, and we've also got
Jason Lee helping engineer our broadcast. Jeremy till as our
(46:37):
spider here in the booth with us. We're coming to
you from the Orthopedic Clinic Broadcast booth. That's East Alabama's
go to center for orthopedic care. Just thirty three seconds
left in this first quarter of playopal like a leading
seven to nothing boy Dogs busting out of a cannon
to start this game, scoring on the first play from scrimmage.
But ever since in it's been kind of settling in here.
(46:57):
Now Benjamin Russell facing a third down in twenty five
from their own thirty yard line.
Speaker 3 (47:03):
Come on, pressure and we've got to get him to punt.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
Quarterback Johnson play action steps up in the pocket. Now,
we'll throw here to the near side of the Fieldsidarian
Morgan all alone and he's caught him the forty five
yard line. Holy cow. He was left somehow all alone
and Johnson was able to buy some time in the
pocket and he found him all the way down to
the forty five yard line. That is a big throw
(47:26):
and catch for this Wildcat team. That's a twenty four
yard pickup and a first down.
Speaker 3 (47:33):
The need to bring more pressure.
Speaker 2 (47:39):
Johnson and company with a big first down throw and
catch on third and a mile there, jesus just three
seconds left. Well, they get this snapoff down to I
think they're gonna let it go. I believe time expired,
but they're gonna let the play go. And so he
got it off down to the thirty eight yard line.
(48:00):
So that's going to be a pickup of eight yards
as the end of the first quarter comes to a
close seven nothing ople like a leading but Benjamin Russell
was some momentum cup big huge play there on a
third down to keep this drive going to start the
second quarter.
Speaker 4 (48:14):
We back after this.
Speaker 2 (48:15):
You're listening to bulldog football right here on the kicker
while the Wildcats of Benjamin Russell converting a huge third
down and long and I believe the quarterback was over
the line of scrimmage when he threw that ball. We
get spending Casey down on the field, but we're gonna
have to move past that.
Speaker 8 (48:34):
Now.
Speaker 2 (48:34):
It'll be second down in three after another quick throw
as time expired in the first quarter of play. And
now the Wildcats they got a penalty. The penalty flag
comes in on an offense, and this was the judge
here on the near side of the field that threw
it right by Coach Grider at the thirty eight yard
(48:55):
line where they're going to mark this back. Gonna be
a five yard penalty. So now back to the forty three. Goodness,
it's so frustrating. All right, let's go, you front guys,
get to the quarterback. Let's place it now. This quarterback
has not been hit really, no, he had tonight, and
(49:15):
I think that's one thing Coach Moore in this defense.
Coach Massey's bunch is gonna have to get some pressure
on this quarterback here tonight. Second down and eight now
from the forty three yard line. I'll try to be
a speed sweep left side and nice job chasing it
down there for the Bulldogs. Good pursuit. Byoplaika coming over
and making that stop. Tyler Moore and company coming over
(49:36):
there and getting Lajavias Calhoun of Benjamin Russell on a
speed sweep.
Speaker 4 (49:40):
He was going from right to left and Coach mccracking.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
Another third down coming up here for this defense and
the ball spot it down at the forty right at
the forty two yard line.
Speaker 4 (49:53):
It's third down and six.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
Okay, third and six, come on, get some pressure, gonna
throw the ball.
Speaker 2 (50:02):
Johnson Hi to the shotgun here on third down and six.
It'll be a handoff left side and right into the
heart of that defense was TJ.
Speaker 4 (50:08):
Wilson.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
He goes nowhere, maybe a yard on the play as
Mary Smiley was there to get him for the Bulldogs.
Speaker 3 (50:14):
They gonna punt. It's time. Good. That's man, that's good defense.
Speaker 4 (50:19):
Well, I wouldn't be so sure.
Speaker 2 (50:21):
I'd still I know they bringing the punter out, but
I wouldn't put it past anything. Coach Grider here, Carson Spears,
the punter will come in to punt here and he
will drift back across midfield. We'll stand around the forty
five yard line and Jamari Miller, who had the big
kickoff return that set up that first score for the
Bulldog stands at around the ten yard line to await
this punt.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
What's that?
Speaker 4 (50:45):
And there's a flag from the Opalaika sideline?
Speaker 3 (50:49):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (50:51):
A sideline warning against Opalaiko? I hope we don't have
to go through this again. So that is the first one.
The second one would be a penalty.
Speaker 6 (51:04):
Calm him down over there, Mac, jeez, can't have that
could have been on Mac, coach, We don't know.
Speaker 3 (51:11):
It might have been on my board.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
He has thrown.
Speaker 4 (51:13):
He has Uh, Mac, you have had a penalty before.
Speaker 3 (51:15):
I don't know what you're talking about.
Speaker 4 (51:17):
All right, then, all right?
Speaker 2 (51:21):
I still got away from the punter he's going after
and falls down on it to the thirty two yard line.
The punter, Carson Spears, lost it. It was a little
high and went through his hands and he falls down
on it back around the thirty three yard line. Opela
is gonna have it first and ten at the thirty
three yard line of Benjamin Russell.
Speaker 3 (51:40):
Is that about a twenty five yard loss? Is that
about right? Van?
Speaker 4 (51:47):
That sounds good to me, Coach.
Speaker 3 (51:49):
It was a lot. It was a lot twenty five
yard loss. That is huge.
Speaker 4 (51:52):
That's big time right there.
Speaker 2 (51:53):
Now, Opelaika has got to take advantage of this short
field again here, Yes, as a Dodger down at the
thirty three yard line.
Speaker 3 (52:03):
Let's get that running game going.
Speaker 2 (52:06):
At the thirty three of Benjamin Russell here on first
and ten, Kolby Key out of the shotgun, gets the snap,
hands it off again to Calvin Hugely, bounces it right.
Hugly's insidey cutting down at the twenty five yard line.
Good run there there by Calvin Huglely gate.
Speaker 3 (52:20):
Isn't it.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
Stop by Kendrick Bird on the stop there? Eight yard
pick up there by the Bulldogs coach.
Speaker 3 (52:29):
Kind of boy, keep running it.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
Second off the ball, second down in two at the
thirty three yard line, and I believe they got Benjamin
Russell to jump, Yes they did. That will be a
first down. That's going to be a Lambert transfer in storage.
First down for this opal like a Bulldog team.
Speaker 6 (52:45):
Another penalty on ben Russell five more yards first down Dogs,
let's go Thomas Efferson, leave whitlow and Miller punching in there.
Speaker 2 (52:54):
Nine forty two left here in our first half of
play in the dope like a Bulldogs eating seven nothing,
trying to add to it. Here first and ten Bulldogs,
And now the line of scrimmage is the Benjamin Russell
twenty yard line. Here first and ten. The white hat
comes over and I think they're waiting. Maybe a clock
(53:17):
issue here, I'm not sure. White Hack kind of looks
like the Austin guy that used to do the SEC games.
Speaker 3 (53:25):
What is he doing? What's his name?
Speaker 4 (53:27):
That, Madam Mac Austin, Matt Austin. Yeah, he looked kind
of like him.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
What is he doing down there? Mac?
Speaker 2 (53:35):
The clock kept running? Reset the clock here? Oh, that
is Mac McCracken. Sideline Reports, brought to you by four
Seasons Federal Credit Union. And I believe we'll call him
mister Austin tonight.
Speaker 3 (53:46):
He's got it all right.
Speaker 2 (53:48):
Let's go first and ten for the Bulldogs at the
Benjamin Russell twenty yard line. Two white outs to the
left side, hand off as to Calvin Hugly. Though Hugly
he wrapped up in the backfield, broke a tackle though
still moving the pile, and Calvin Hugly is down close
to the fifteen yard line. Hugly almost got five yards
after contact. Initially no along was there, but Hugly would
(54:08):
not be denied. That's that tough running by Calvin Huglely.
Coach we wanted to see tonight, Suir.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
Second down in five, Run it again there, coach Moore.
Speaker 2 (54:17):
Second down in five of the fifteen of Benjamin Russell,
nine to nineteen left to play. Dogs will go back
to that old school life formation here with one wide
out to the left side in an I backfield. Key
gets the snap, quick hand off to the fullback Blake Johnson,
and he runs into a brick wall. No gain on
the play. It'll be third and five coming up here.
Jaden VI there's a good stop there by Benjamin Russell.
(54:46):
I don't know if this is four down territory, coach.
I think you kick a field. We'll go here if
you don't pick it up here. I think a ten
to nothing lead it is pretty good, but I'd like
to pick the first down up over what two? Jordan
Waits dots the eye here. Blake Johnson is the full back.
Key under center with a hard count. No jump there
by Benjamin Russell. Now Key goes back under center here
(55:07):
third and five from the fifteen yard line. Waits gets
the snap, tries to bounce it outside, strung out a
flag comes in and Waits got close to the first down.
But another penalty comes in here, and it's going to
be a hold against Opelaika and this will back things
up ten yards hold in the wall.
Speaker 3 (55:26):
That's three holding penalties on our office.
Speaker 2 (55:30):
Coach Grider is going to take that one, so it'll
be a replay third down here, eight twenty two left
here in this first half. That's going to back it
up to the twenty five yard line. They'll need the ten,
so it'll be third and fifteen for the Bulldogs.
Speaker 3 (55:47):
Boy have weaits for to take advantage of this? Come on, guys,
quit making these stupid mistakes.
Speaker 2 (55:54):
Two white outs to the left, Jamari Miller to the
right side, and Calvin Hughes is the back. He'll line
up to the left of kolbe Key out of the
shotgun formation, trips left, single receiver to the right side. Here,
Key drops back on third down, throws one right across
the middle. Miller's got it, but he's wrapped up for
about a five yard loss. Key quickly through his progression
(56:18):
there and he didn't like what he saw and dumped
it off to Jamari Miller and he was going nowhere.
So we'll see the field goal team come in. Johnny
Sissina has got a heck of a leg, but it
just got a lot harder here on this field goal.
This is right at the middle of the field here,
thirty five thirty forty six yarder, Yeah, forty six yarter
(56:40):
coach right smack dab in the middle of the field.
Cam Rayley will snap it and Brody Jones will hold it,
kicking it into the open end zone here at the
sports Plex and Alexander City snap good, hold good. Johnny
Cecina has the leg and it is.
Speaker 4 (57:01):
No good.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
I think you must have missed it wide to the left.
Hard to tell from our vantage point. He certainly had
the leg on it, but came over here in front
of the poet. After that forty seven yard field goal attempt.
There by Johnny comes up empty. Tough one there, boy.
The Dogs had it coached down at the fifteen yard line.
We got whipped and we're marching it into the end
zone there.
Speaker 4 (57:24):
It seemed.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
Seven nothing. Bulldogs still with the lead those seven nineteen
left here in the second quarter. But here comes the
offense out for Benjamin Russell and they'll take over from
their on twenty yard line.
Speaker 4 (57:36):
After that miss field goal.
Speaker 6 (57:37):
Kick, All right, no let down down here, guys, Come on,
we got enough time to get the ball back.
Speaker 2 (57:46):
Crowd here at the Sportsplex rooting on the Wildcats getting
on their feet. Johnson out of the shotgun here for
the Wildcats. Another penalty comes in here on the Wildcats. Boy,
they've been sloppy on offense tonight as far as the
penalties go, Coach, yes, the yes, the hell, Jason says,
(58:07):
A six inch to the left. Is how bad that
one was off?
Speaker 3 (58:11):
Not much first through fifteen.
Speaker 4 (58:16):
It is a game of inches.
Speaker 2 (58:18):
We need to turn over here. Come on, wild Cats
on the penalty there backs it up. There'll come from there.
On the fifteen yard line. Here on first and ten,
Johnson hands it off to the tailback. Wilson bounces it
here near syboys with a good runner across the twenty
five up to the twenty six and is an eleven
yard pickup. Ty Hudson comes over and makes the stop
(58:39):
for the Bulldogs. But a good run on first down
there by TJ. Wilson Wine a screamins right there, Im
sure did? He had thirteen hundred yards low almost thirteen
hundred yards last season from the tailback spot.
Speaker 4 (58:57):
This is his senior year. TJ. Wilson five, nine hundred
and seven.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
They'll play action to him here on second down, tipped
up and just drops down to the twenty five yard line.
Speaker 4 (59:06):
Good job.
Speaker 2 (59:07):
The defense couldn't get there. But I know that's something
Coach Moore has been preaching, trying to bat these passes
down because right now, you know coach Johnson's five to ten,
one hundred and seventy pounds, he's not the tallest A
Mary Smiley got a pall on that one.
Speaker 6 (59:18):
Yeah, here we go, third down conversion. They are one
of four on third down conversions.
Speaker 2 (59:24):
And a third and five was six thirty nine left
here in this first half, opal like a seven Benjamin Russell.
Speaker 4 (59:29):
Nothing.
Speaker 3 (59:30):
It's gonna be a short pass, either a slam or
an out.
Speaker 2 (59:34):
And Morgan is lined up in the inside receiver here
with trips to the left side. Johnson will roll that
side left side, floats one up and it is incomplete,
almost intercepted by the Bulldogs at the thirty nine yard line.
That was almost picked off by Devin Dixon. So fourth
down and we'll see coach Grider frustratingly waving his hands
(59:57):
to tell the punting team to come out here with
six thirty four left the first half. That was a
good job right there. I tell you what, coach this week,
we're kind of wondering how this game may go. I said,
this may be one of those old school thirteen ten
thirteen seven tight games. And it's kind of in its
second half to go here and a long way to go.
It could change quickly, but right now points are at
(01:00:19):
a premium. Jayalen Washington Jamari Miller both deep to return
this punt here with six thirty four left, and the
punter Carson Spears he lost the last one. So watch
the snap here and watch the punter. He stands at
the ten yard line awaiting this one. You know his
nerves are up there.
Speaker 4 (01:00:38):
He got this one and he shanked it out of
the way bad, up in the air.
Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
It hits at the forty and it takes opal like
a roll at the thirty nine yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
What is that about? Ten foot? A fifteen yard punt?
Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
See the line of scrimmage was the twenty six.
Speaker 3 (01:00:57):
It's about fifteen, isn't it. That's all that.
Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
And there is an official timeout on the field, So
we got a heat timeout.
Speaker 4 (01:01:07):
Seven.
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
Yeah, six twenty five left. An official timeout will step aside,
and you're listening to the Bulldog football dogs on top
seven to nothing over Benjamin Russell. Six twenty five left
here in this first half of play, good field position
(01:01:29):
here for this Opalaika Bulldog team. They'll start from the
thirty nine yard line of Benjamin Russell here, first down
and ten, leading seven to nothing with six twenty four left,
Calvin Hugley slips the tackle, stays on his feet. Calvin
slips another tackle inside the thirty spins at the twenty five.
He's inside the fifteen Calvin tight rope of the sidelines
and he's out of bounds inside the fifteen. They'll say
step down at the twelve yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
How many yards is that man?
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
And I see I got to find out where they
marked him down at the twelve yard line, coach said,
is a twenty seven yard pickup Lambert transfer in storage.
First down. That is the big time running from Calvin Hugly.
We hope to see and it has certainly been a
good start for him. One touchdown, the loan touchdown, and
I think he's wanting touchdown number two. Here we'll see
Calvin gets a snap in the backfield inside the ten.
(01:02:14):
He's in touchdown Calvin Hugly number two for the Big
Fella from twelve yards out. Calvin Hugly slipped through the
line of scrimmage and he was off to the races,
big time run there by Calvin Hugly, touchdown number two
for the Big Fella. So Hugly had the thirty six
(01:02:36):
yarder to start the game at a eleven yard are
there and two touchdowns here in the first half. Johnny
Cecina on for the extra point. Good snap down and
the kick by Cucina is up and it is good.
Fourteen nothing. Bulldog's leaded six o eight still to go
here in the second quarter. You're listen, nope, like a
(01:02:58):
Bulldog football and that is a story drive I should say,
powered by ople like a Power Services hometown people working
for you online at OPLEA likea power dot com. Back
after this timeout, touchdown number two for mister Calvin Hugley
(01:03:19):
and uh ople like had stretch their lead fourteen nothing
over the Benjamin Russell Wildcat six o eight left to
play here in this second quarter. Coach McCracken Calvin is
looking good and running the football good right now? Yes, sir,
Johnny Cecina has it teed up. He'll kick from right
to left. And every time that offense does something good boy,
and you hope that momentum carries over to these big
(01:03:39):
guys on the defensive side of the football. Johnny blast
one into the zone there and it just goes out
of bounds, went out of bounds of the three yard line.
Boy coming, so I thought that well, I thought that
one was sailing into the end zone. Let's go down
for a four seasons Federal Credit Union sideline report. Matt
McCracken standing by, Well, then I.
Speaker 10 (01:03:59):
Tell you what you know.
Speaker 11 (01:04:00):
Going over there listening to the offense with coach Aackkins.
Went over there, of course was coach Flemings again with
the offensive lineman. They really pushed about missing block assignments
and everything to make adjustments. And as you can see
right there, coach Jackins just said, hey, we'll just stick
with the run what we do best.
Speaker 10 (01:04:14):
Great running right there by Calvin Hugley.
Speaker 11 (01:04:16):
He was cutting like butter guys, and he just added
a quick step to his cut and running hard and
that was a well deserved, will needed touchdown. And let's
see if a defense could keep throwing that shut out.
Speaker 4 (01:04:26):
All right, great stuff, Mac, thanks so much.
Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
Six o eight remaining here in this first half play action,
they'll throw here near sight. It's caught it the forty
two yard line and got it to number twenty five.
Carson spears for a quick throwing catch up to the
forty two yard line before court Ingram hauled him in.
But that catch is good for seven yards when it
was a quick throwing catch too. Check it down in
two for the Wildcats. The he'll be from there on
(01:04:51):
forty three yard line. Five forty one left here the
first half of play fourteen nothing Opalaika with the lead
and j Justin.
Speaker 4 (01:05:04):
Dropped the snap.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
He got on the knee it went and picked it up,
so he's gonna be down in the backfield, yes, sir,
and loss all the way back to the thirty eight
yard line. So close to a five yard loss there
by Elijah Johnson the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:05:21):
Big play right here van thirty eight.
Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
Back to the thirty eight yard line. Now Johnson was
in third and eight, as coach mentioned here on this play.
It's a big one here with five eight left. Boy
hopill I get the football back and score again here
before the end of this first half. That would be
big dogs leading with five minutes to go here in
the first half. Fourteen nothing we ain't gonna rush, but
three we better get to him. Johnson drops back in
(01:05:46):
the pocket, flushed up in the pocket. Now we'll take
off and float one wide open at the forty five,
cross midfield, across the forty five and finally brought down
at the forty yard line. Huge cats there, Keevi and
King on the stop finally tracks down the wide receiver,
but not before it was a first down run caught
by Rodney Greer and all the way down to the
(01:06:09):
forty yard line, twenty two yards and the first down
there for Benjamin Russell. Boy, they've killed the dogs on
some of these third downs here tonight. Got pressure on him.
Coach just went outside, he stepped to end the pocket,
did a good job of keeping his eyes down field.
Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
People, and they can't get through it all right.
Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
Johnson drops back now floats one way downfield and it
is incomplete. And that was intended for Jake Don John
k Norris and it's incomplete. That was over his head.
And I think the folks here benjam Russell wanted to
on the pass interference, but I don't think there was
any way he was going to catch that one.
Speaker 3 (01:06:54):
That's two or five in this quarter. We got good
pressure on him.
Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
Then Tyrese Pitts, I'm running aside. Tyrese Pitts was in
coverage downfield on that one. So it's second down in ten.
The Wildcats at the forty yard line of Okalaika here
trailing fourteen to noth of a four seventeen to play
here in the first half.
Speaker 3 (01:07:13):
Come on pressuring.
Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
Johnson with two wide receivers to the right side of
the field. Gets the snap, it'll be a handoff and
Wilson's got it working near side, strung out nicely by
the Bulldog's big hit of the thirty nine yard line.
Adeline Jackson, mister Chattahoochee comes down along with ty Hudson.
It makes the stop there and it's going to be
third down and eleven here for the Wildcats, and Wilson's
shaking up. He took a shot. That is a no
(01:07:38):
gainer and TJ. Wilson took a shot on that play
by that Bulldog defense.
Speaker 4 (01:07:43):
He's down.
Speaker 2 (01:07:44):
We'll step aside injury time out. After this time out,
you're listening to the Bulldog football here.
Speaker 3 (01:07:48):
On the kicker.
Speaker 4 (01:07:55):
As your players starting running back there for Benjamin Russell.
That was TJ.
Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
Wilson helped off the feet there and he took a
really big shot. Certainly, I hope he's okay, and as
he came off the field, big play. So this'll be
a third down and right at eleven here for the
Wildcats from their own thirty nine yard line and third down.
They've been tough on third down. Statson dropped the football
in the backfield, though, picks it up, and he's gonna
be brought down by mister Jakaid Lightfoot, number ninety nine,
(01:08:20):
back of the forty five yard line. Jakied Lightfoot was
there this time. And it's fourth down and gonna be
close to fourteen yards for the Wildcats.
Speaker 3 (01:08:30):
I think Smidy's gonna punt.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
Yeah, three thirty nine left, and I think he knows this.
Opalaka offense has scored fourteen points but still has not
really been able to sustain drives and I think he
wants to try to pin him back here. But his
punting game has not been great though. You know, they've
dropped a punt and shanked a punt their last two
times out coach, So I would I feel comfortable with
them punting right here? Jalen Washington Jamari Miller two deep
(01:08:54):
men for the Bulldogs. Jalen's up on the fifteen, Jamari
in the inside the ten, around the nine. So this
is Carson Spears catches it at the thirty nine and
boots a line drive punt and it goes out of
bounds and at the twenty four yard line, so that
(01:09:18):
will be a sixteen yard punt.
Speaker 6 (01:09:21):
Okay, they've had a sixteen of twenty five of twenty
two and a fifteen four punts, so that's that's good.
Speaker 4 (01:09:28):
All right, Mac.
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
I know this is a big, big opportunity here for
this offense.
Speaker 11 (01:09:32):
Absolutely, and uh hey, three minutes to go. I said,
if we get some points of any kind before the half,
So let's establish a couple of a good drive here,
and we need points.
Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
Before half, they'd be a great thing. All right, Thanks
so much. Matt mccrack in. Four Seasons Federal Credit Union
Sideline Report. We're here in the Orthopeda Clinic Broadcast booth,
Dogs leading fourteen to nothing, two fifty nine left here
in this first half. Colby Key out of the shotgun
he's got two receivers left a single receiver to the
right side line of scrimmage for the bulldo Dogs. The
twenty four speed sweep to Miller trying to work the
(01:10:03):
right side. Flag comes in and Miller's off to the
races across the forty across midfield and he's out of bounds.
But it's going to be negated by two flags back
at the twenty five yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
Dead come it. That is five holding penalties.
Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
Well, and coach, I know this is a not a
not a relatively new offensive line. There's been some there's
been some different pieces and some movements around. I know
there's a lot of pulling that goes on. So first
game of the season, I know these are things they'll
be watching in film next week and hopefully after a
win here tonight. So that'll be a ten yard penalty
(01:10:41):
from the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (01:10:43):
Five holding penalties, So.
Speaker 2 (01:10:49):
That will back the Bulldogs back up to the sixteen
yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:10:55):
All right, make that the fourteen How much time we
got left in the half, two point fifty left, So.
Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
I want to protect this lead here at all cost
and hopefully try to get something going offensively. Fourteen to nothing,
hope Pulaika with the lead first and twenty A little
delay here. Colby Key out of the shotgun, gets the stamp,
hands it to Waits, who was tripped up in the backfield.
He's not going to break the tackle. He's brought down
at the nine yard line. Big loss on the play
(01:11:23):
there as Davis number ninety six comes over makes a
stop for the Wildcats. I don't think coach Moore feels
real comfortable right now to letting the sophomore quarterback on
this end of the field air one out here. You
hopefully can break a run and try to keep this
drive going, but it's going to be tough here. Second
and a mile here, Dog's back at the right at
(01:11:48):
the eleven yard line, high backfield here for the Bulldogs.
Key goes under center, it's the snamp, hands it off
to Calvin Hugly. Hugly right shide. Hugly break some tackles
and Hugely's across the twenty yard line. Forced out of
bounds around the twenty one yard line here, Well, there's
some coaches Mac McCracken down there coaching up right now.
Speaker 4 (01:12:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
There's some how many yards take it on intensity? I
would say they marked it at the nineteen yard line
to an eight yard run. Third and sixteen here for
the Bulldogs from their own nineteen yard line. I backfield
again here for the Bulldogs. Hard count there by Colby Kee.
(01:12:33):
I'll check the sidelines. Blake Johnson, great full back in
there and dotting the eye as Calvin hugly Key gets
it hand off to Hugley left side. Positive play up
to the twenty three yard line, but not much. Christian
Smith comes up, makes the stomp by a three yard
There was a hole there right away.
Speaker 4 (01:12:54):
But Hugly.
Speaker 2 (01:12:58):
Smith, what you got by fourth and thirteen and a
time out taken here by coach Grider?
Speaker 3 (01:13:05):
Got one? How much left?
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
Minute thirty two? So coach Grider trying to get the
football back and wanting to try to get a score here.
Benjamin Russell will get the football to start the second half,
and Mac boy, there is some coaching going on down
there on the sidelines right now. What's the word.
Speaker 10 (01:13:21):
Yeah, they're hot right now. Well, multiple reasons.
Speaker 11 (01:13:25):
But they missed a giganic face mask over here on
the sideline, so that's why they're hot on this. But
you know, fourth down, you got to you know, pun
it away and then hold them and then get to
this locker room at fourteen nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
All right, Thank you MAC. Timeouts brought to you by
Southern Union State Community College. No matter your career or
personal goal, Southern Union can help you on the path

Southern Union State Community College campuses in Opalaika, Wadley Valley.
Visit on light at SUSC C EEDU. Now I want
(01:14:03):
to say, boy, that the fans of Opalaika have been
fired up.
Speaker 4 (01:14:06):
Coach.
Speaker 2 (01:14:07):
The stands are packed across the way. And I was
in Victory Designs today getting some opal like a gear,
and there was people just piling in there. So the
Dogs right now leading fourteen to nothing, and I'm hoping
to keep the Wildcats out of the end zone. Here
one to thirty two left. Dogs are punting in a way.
Henderson stands at the ten, gets a snap line, drive
(01:14:29):
shot and a fair catch calling forth the forty yard line.
So it'll be sixty yards to go here for the
Wildcats with a minute twenty seven left. Here in this
first half of play.
Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
How bad? How far was that punt? Man?
Speaker 2 (01:14:41):
He caught it right at the forty yard line, So
that was a thirty eight yard punt.
Speaker 3 (01:14:48):
Thirty eight.
Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
Okay, you always you always put me on the spot
for math, coach. I'm I'm just kidding with a forty thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:14:55):
Eight that's that's okay. We pucked twice.
Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
My son comes home with math homework now, I'm like,
you better find a YouTube video, son, I.
Speaker 3 (01:15:02):
Got you all right, No big plays. We bet got
to get good pass rush.
Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
Now bow Cats from their on forty yard line. Here,
they've got one at twenty seven to work with and
Johnson drops back, rolls here near sign Johnson's steps. He
was on way downfield, got a wide receiver open, and
it is going to be a pass interference called. I
thought it was great coverage there, my goodness by court Ingram.
But they're gonna flag him for a pass interference at
(01:15:28):
the twenty five yard line. That was a short underthrown ball.
The wide receiver, Lagavious Calhoun came back for it, and
I thought it low like court Ingram got in there,
knocked the ball away pretty cleanly. I didn't think he
got their early, coach.
Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
They don't get the ball there.
Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
Now it's a fifteen yard penalty from the spot. So yeah,
breat it's at the forty five. Okay, yeah, they're just
so it's gonna be a fifteen yard game essentially after
the pass interference penalty there. So at the forty five
yard line to two receivers here to the near signed
single receiver left side play action. It was tipped and
(01:16:07):
going down and catching it at the forty yard line
was a wide receiver John K Norris. That was just
a five yard pick up. That pass was deflected at
the line of scribbage. So second down and five, we're
under a minute.
Speaker 6 (01:16:21):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:16:21):
The clock continues to whind here in the second quarter,
open like up fourteen to nothing, trying to hold this lead.
Wilson back in the game, gets his first carry and
he's tackled by Ty Henderson at the thirty four yard line,
and that will keep the clock running here down the
forty seven, down to forty six and now winding down
under forty seconds to go. Johnson's gonna have to hurry
(01:16:42):
up here. Play action pressure comes and he has hit
as he throws it and towards the end zone and
it is picked up by the Bulldogs. Cord Em got
it at the two yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:16:50):
Boy cord what a big play.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
Cord Ingram comes in, intercepts it and will hold this
lead for the Bulldogs here in the first half with
twenty three seconds left, big time play there by courting Or.
He got a flag on that pass interference which we
had a question mark on, but he made up for
it there with a big interception. So fourteen nothing. Dogs
(01:17:15):
will actually get it at the forward progress of Ingram
at the three yard line.
Speaker 6 (01:17:21):
With the difference in this first half has been they
had two turnovers and they didn't put the ball worth
the day. We got your position all right, Well right here, coach,
you just got to have some clean a clean snap, yes,
and drop to a knee.
Speaker 2 (01:17:39):
And I think coach Grinder is well out of time out.
So they say one still left on the scoreboard. But
Key will actually go out of the shotgun here. Key
gets the shotgun snap, had it off to weights, Weights
hit at the five spins his way up to the
sixth to seven, and they're going to let that clock
(01:18:03):
continue to whine. I think Coach Grider, I don't think
he had another time out. I think he did. He
would have used it already. I think that's going to
be the end of the first half of play. We'll
get coach Moore going into the locker room. Mac, so
remind him of that before he runs away, and that
(01:18:28):
is the end of the first half. Boy, Coach Moore
having some words with the official heading into the locker room.
It is a fourteen nothing lead.
Speaker 4 (01:18:35):
Mac.
Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
He's over there by the official in the middle of
the field and he's still talking to the white hat.
I'm not sure what about, but I think he's still
talking about a face mask from earlier in the game.
I think he's letting his case be known here. But
(01:18:56):
he is hot right now, and we got officer Burdett
escorting him in and Mac down on the sidelines.
Speaker 4 (01:19:03):
Mac, take it away there, what's that what you said?
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
Still getting some clarification from the officials here. Fourteen nothing
our halftime lead, Coach More is that he is hot
right now.
Speaker 4 (01:19:21):
There is no doubt about that.
Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
And he is there is something that happened that he
is not happy about, and he is letting his case
be known right now. All right, Mac, We ready to
go here, Yes.
Speaker 10 (01:19:36):
Sir, Hey, we got coach passion of coach more heir, coach,
give us your thoughts for the first half.
Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
Yeah, I mean we got to capitalize.
Speaker 6 (01:19:42):
We got several you know, several times inside you know
they're thirty forty and we don't finish. You know, we
missed a field goal, we had to turnover on downs.
I went forward on fourth, we didn't get it on
fourth and short. We got to be cleaner right there.
And then the biggest play of the game though, We
got on back to third and twenty or whatever it is,
and we cut one loose. He's the best player in
Alabama and we cut him loose. Everybody knows where he is.
(01:20:04):
We gotta know we're in man coverage. Man is man forever.
Speaker 3 (01:20:07):
We got to stay locked on and connected. This is
our fault. This is us right here. It's not those
stripes and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 6 (01:20:13):
We gotta be better and cleaner and stop holding all
the stuff we're doing and cleaning.
Speaker 11 (01:20:17):
Up and finish this ball game, all right, Coach, let's
go visit you boys, say second half?
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
All right, Mac McCracken, boy, fiery coach Moore, there I
love it here at the half as he goes in there,
I had a coach you could be happy with a
fourteen nothing lead. I don't think Coach Moore is.
Speaker 6 (01:20:30):
Real happy at all right now, this fourteen nothing on
that play he's talking about though, our three we rushed
three and we didn't get to the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:20:38):
We didn't even come close.
Speaker 4 (01:20:39):
That's right, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:20:40):
We are at the half and it is a fourteen
nothing lead for the Opalaka Bulldogs. It's happy to be
upset up fourteen nothing. I think that's the one good
positive thing right now. And Coach Moore heading into the
locker room to talk to his guys. Here at the half,
we come back Jason Lee a little bit. It's gonna
check some scores around the area and the Spirit of
the South Marching Band actually gonna perform here. We'll have
that for you coming up next. Welcome back here to
(01:21:07):
Benjamin Russell. We are in thee for the Worth the
pedict Clinic broadcast booth being raised alongside coach Bench McCracken
and Mac McCracken roaming the shine line. Mac, I know
it was a fired up coach Moore heading into the
locker room. What was he like in the locker room?
Speaker 10 (01:21:20):
Exactly?
Speaker 11 (01:21:20):
I had a lot of life right there. You know, basically,
just let the assistant coaches beat up with their groups
and each one of their players, and they went over
you know, of course schemes everything like that, but they know,
you know, it's a long way to go in this game.
They want to continue to run the football, or raise
the mistakes of penalties, continue a dominant special team performance,
and get out of here with a W. So you know, hey,
(01:21:43):
coach Rider's got the boys, you know, for Ben Russell,
that's gonna fight hard the second half and pull out
all the stops, and we just got to play good
sound fundamental football.
Speaker 6 (01:21:51):
Mac remind him fixing the coming there on defense the
first five minutes of.
Speaker 3 (01:21:57):
This third day. They know that.
Speaker 11 (01:22:00):
Kenny Prescott, Kenny Prescott's already addressed that. I think that
guy that would memorize for the past five years, good man.
Speaker 3 (01:22:07):
Hey.
Speaker 11 (01:22:07):
Also, I wanted to tell y'all I overheard y'all talking,
uh that quarterback was not past the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
When you throw that.
Speaker 2 (01:22:13):
Okay, by all right, well, thank you maclaration.
Speaker 3 (01:22:16):
On that, Jeremy and you can debate that.
Speaker 4 (01:22:18):
On the way home.
Speaker 2 (01:22:20):
All right, here we go. We got Johnny Cecina t
ended up just about ready to go to get under
our second half underway. He'll kick from right to left
and it's a line drive shot again towards the left corner,
and that one goes in enz on a boot there
by Johnny Cecina, and it will be Benjamin Russell starting
from their own twenty yard line, first and ten, Bulldogs
leading fourteen nothing here as we start our second half
(01:22:40):
of play. And we certainly appreciate you being with us,
all our many fine sponsors, and uh Bubba's medicine shot
one of those fine sponsors.
Speaker 4 (01:22:52):
Just what the doctor ordered. And I think the doctor
would order a.
Speaker 2 (01:22:54):
Nice couple sacks here, yes, for this defense and in
a short field for this Bulldog offense again a three.
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
And half man. Don't let him run it, don't let
them pass it. Start off right now.
Speaker 2 (01:23:09):
So the offense of Benjamin Russell will start first and
ten from their own a twenty yard line. Johnson again,
the quarterback, TJ. Wilson, the tailback. Johnson gets a quick
throw and it is caught double clutching Calt and I
think Opelika says incomplete. It was incomplete. He double clutched
it and its knee went to the ground before he
could get possession of it. So incomplete second down and
(01:23:30):
ten coming up again from the twenty yard line.
Speaker 6 (01:23:32):
That's good effort by our corner over there plucking that
ball away too.
Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
Second ten, second down to ten again from the twenty
yard line for the Wildcats. Trips receivers here near side.
Johnson rolls here near side. It is caught by Norris
and he's tackling the Tyson up across the twenty five
up to the twenty. They're gonna say he got all
the way to the twenty eight yard line. So an
(01:23:59):
eight yard pick. I'm going to be a third and
two coming up here for the Wildcats. Well, I didn't
think he got up. I didn't think he got that far,
but he did.
Speaker 6 (01:24:12):
Third Now what off.
Speaker 3 (01:24:15):
Looks like it's a little more than.
Speaker 2 (01:24:16):
Too, Yeah, I think it is. I think they backed
it up. It's going to be more like from the
twenty seven yard line, so about a third and three here.
Oh good, they got a penalty. Yeah, and this is
another procedure penalty against Benjamin Russell. Coach, boy, they have
had a number of these, and this is going to
drive Coach Grider absolutely crazy, Yes, sir and coach, I
know you.
Speaker 4 (01:24:36):
Keep track of those stats.
Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
That's got to be the around the fifth or six
one eight that it couldn't be yeah, eight, wow, yes, sir,
Third down and seven, now that say third and eight
eleven five. We're just underweight here in the second half
from the Sportsplex in alex City, Bulldogs of Opelika leading
fourteen nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:24:56):
They don't get the throw now.
Speaker 2 (01:24:58):
This is the first drive of that.
Speaker 3 (01:25:01):
There's number one up top.
Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
First drive of the second half here, Benjamin Russell facing
a third down and eight from their own twenty one
yard line, and another flag comes in. This is another
motion penalty against that offense.
Speaker 4 (01:25:17):
My goodness, that's okay.
Speaker 8 (01:25:19):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
Always off sides against Opalaiko.
Speaker 3 (01:25:27):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:25:33):
Well, that was a very odd time to throw that
flag when somebody was moving in motion.
Speaker 4 (01:25:38):
I didn't see.
Speaker 2 (01:25:41):
So it'll be back to a third and three. Now,
back to the twenty seven yard line. Two white outs
to the left side to sit Leaver here to the
near side, gets the handoff in it's a option to
play quarterback.
Speaker 4 (01:25:55):
Keeps it.
Speaker 2 (01:25:55):
He's got the first down. He scoops out of bounds
at the thirty two yard line. Defense really hammered down
on the tailback and the quarterback pulled it and got
the first down up to the thirty two yard line.
Come on, guys, first down and ten for the Wildcats
or they're on thirty two. That was a good read
option there by that quarterback because TJ. Wilson, the running back,
(01:26:22):
he got leveled in the backfield. But unfortunately for the Bulldogs,
he didn't have the football. First and ten play This
time it will be a hand off to Wilson running
left side, and this time he runs into ty Hudson
and also Tyler Moore is there for the Bulldogs for
a short pickup garret three yard pickups. Second down and seven.
Speaker 6 (01:26:47):
We got to tackle better, you know, we've tackled him
at about a one yard game and he drug us.
Speaker 3 (01:26:53):
He's a good running back there.
Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
He really is.
Speaker 4 (01:26:56):
And he took a hit early in this game and
stayed in there too. Tough guy.
Speaker 2 (01:26:59):
Second and seven Wildcats from their own thirty five yard line.
Johnson rings Morgan in motion. They'll drop back. They're trying
to find him deep downfield. He's triple covered and they'll
throw it short for the completion a first down out
of ounds at the forty five yard line and that's
a ten yard pickup and enough for the first down.
Speaker 4 (01:27:16):
And I checked that.
Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
There's a flag though, two flags down back near the
line of scrimmage.
Speaker 3 (01:27:24):
Oh good.
Speaker 2 (01:27:28):
I think they're saying this is on Opalaikah though. And
there's a player down also a personal foul against opalaika
So this is going to be after added onto the play.
It was Sadarian Morgan, the big, tall wide receiver, took
a shot, but I'm not sure that was the penalty.
(01:27:51):
The penalty flag was way on the other side of
the field, so it wasn't. It wasn't on the star
wide receiver. But he's having to be helped off the field.
That's a big loss there for the Wildcats.
Speaker 3 (01:28:01):
Fifteen yards.
Speaker 2 (01:28:04):
This is going to march it down close inside the
thirty down to the twenty eight yard line.
Speaker 6 (01:28:10):
Oh, here they come. That's a fifteen yard penalty. Got
to quit get these penalties van.
Speaker 2 (01:28:17):
Yeah, the Wildcats have certainly they've won the possession game tonight.
Time of possession, first and ten down to the Bulldog
inside the thirty down to the twenty eight yard line.
First and ten for the Wildcats on the move here
John said, hands it off inside to Wilson straight up
the gut down to the twenty one yard line, and
he has got seven yards. One thing over like a
(01:28:41):
struggle with last season coaching, even the season before his
second half ball games.
Speaker 3 (01:28:45):
And right now, that's exactly right.
Speaker 2 (01:28:48):
Some depth issues coming in for the Bulldogs.
Speaker 3 (01:28:52):
We got our two defensive line in there.
Speaker 2 (01:28:55):
And that time Wilson goes down to the backfield, he
was hit in the backfield by that was number find
he won Amory Smiley in the backfield on that one.
So a loss on the play, third down back to
the twenty four yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:29:14):
This will be a third down and five coming up
here for this.
Speaker 3 (01:29:20):
Is gonna be two down territory.
Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
I guarantee you, oh no doubt about that. Fourteen nothing
eight forty nine left here in the third quarter and
the Wildcats trailing by two touchdowns. But on the move here,
third down and five for the Wildcats, rolland left. As
Johnson now goes back right, it's got some wide open
daylight in front of him and a nice tackle there
by the Bulldogs court Ingram. But enough for a first down.
(01:29:46):
You're gonna be six yard pickup.
Speaker 6 (01:29:47):
Just enough for the first down hain't driven this ball
seventy yards.
Speaker 4 (01:29:54):
Eight thirty two.
Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
The clock continues to move as the Benjamin Russell Wildcats
are marching it down the field. Sidarian Morgan, the top
white out for the Wildcats, remains out after being helped
off the field. Single receiver to the left side. Johnson,
out of the backfield quarterback gets the hand off. They
(01:30:16):
give it to Wilson left side. Wilson down to the
fifteen yard line. He picks up three yards. Tyler More
on the stop for the Bulldogs. Second down in seven,
coming up for the Wildcats, down to the sixteen yard line.
Seven fifty one remaining here in this third quarter, Dogs
(01:30:38):
leading fourteen nothing. Points have been at a premium right now.
But the Wildcats come on day.
Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
You gotta get a stop here now.
Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
Are marching it down the field. Second down in seven
at the Bulldog's fifteen yard line. Play action, Johnson rolls right,
pressure comes, he steps up in the pocket, throws wide
open at the end zone. Touchdown. Said Darian Morgan was
back in the game and again and somehow he's left
all alone, and this time it's for a touchdown. A
fifteen yard throwing cats from Wilson. I should say from
(01:31:07):
Elijah Johnson, said, Darian Morgan and the Wildcats are on
the board when their first score was seven twenty eight
left here in the third quarter. Oh, that will absolutely
drive you crazy there. How you leave Morgan all alone
(01:31:29):
and the Bulldog still struggling to get pressure on the quarterback,
extra point up and good, fourteen to seven. Are score
seven to twenty eight left here in this third quarter,
and the Wildcats right back in and we're back after
this time out. You're listening to Bulldog football here on
the kicker experience, Well, Benjamin Russell, that you took the
(01:31:55):
opening kick off eighty plus yards and we want a
ton of this here. Just seven twenty eight left of
the third they're back within a score now fourteen to seven,
and Jamari Millner's got it for the Bulldogs across the
twenty five tight ropes of sidelines out of bounds, across
the thirty out of bounds around the thirty two yard line.
Jayalen Washington, rather on that reception or that return, I
(01:32:18):
should say, well, the offense for the Bulldog's gonna have
to come out in answer here and try to get
them a drive going. They'll start for their own thirty
yard line, leading here just by a touchdown here fourteen
to seven. But all the momentum on the side of
Benjamin Russell now is they took that opening kicked off
and marched it down the field and scored. Hobie Key
(01:32:41):
will work out of the shotgun a receiver either side here,
dogs of their own thirty yard line. Key gets the snap,
hands the ball off in the backfield, swallowed up, was
hugely stayed on his feet at boy. Huglely just powered
his way up to the thirty eight yard line for
an eight yard game before Brandon Hicks got him down.
They'll say marked him down at the thirty seven yard line.
(01:33:02):
But that is just tough running by Calvin Hugly. Second
down and three coming up here under seven minutes to go.
Here in the third quarter, Key out of the shotgun,
changing his play at the line of scrimmage Jones to
the left side, Jamari Miller to the right. Hugely remains
(01:33:23):
the lone bag. Now they'll move Miller in motion and
it'll be a handoff to Calvin inside. Calvin's got the
first down and Calvin's up to the forty four yard
line for before Brandon Hicks brings him down again. That's
a seven yard run by Calvin Hugly.
Speaker 3 (01:33:39):
Got a boy.
Speaker 2 (01:33:40):
Jalen Washington will check in the game as Julian Pritchett,
the tight end goes out. Now Dogs will line that
was evers to the right. Single receiver here the near
side is Brody Jones all along on the wide side
of the field. Key gets it, hands the ball of
Calvin Hughley. Calvin this time inside. He's stuck at the
(01:34:02):
forty eight yard line, but he did pick up three yards.
I'm gonna say picked up four.
Speaker 4 (01:34:15):
I'll be second down in six.
Speaker 2 (01:34:19):
They did mark it up to the forty eight yard line,
so another good run by Calvin Hugley. He'll get a
breather as Jordan Wakes checks at the ball game wakes
to the left of Key. Key gets the snap option play.
They'll pitch it out to the Waits and strung out
nicely by the Wildcats up to the fifty yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:34:43):
Brien Rodney or Micah Micah Murphy on the stop.
Speaker 3 (01:34:48):
It's a big third down conversion here and.
Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
A third and four coming up for the Bulldogs right
at midfield. Drew Cagliano on the line of scrimmage of
the tight end spot to the left. See him checking
the ball game. Third and four in Benjamin Russell's fans
getting on their feet. Five twelve left, third quarter, big
third down play coming up for the Bulldogs here at midfield.
Kobe Key pigs play right side. Johnson's got it. Johnson's
(01:35:14):
gotten the first down across the forty five and he's
down to the forty four yard line. That's Tommy Johnson
on the run. Kendrick Bird on the stop for the Wildcats.
That is a big time Lambert transfer in storage. First down.
Nice pitch by Kobe Key, had a good run there
by the senior Tommy Johnson, number twenty seven. And there's
an official timeout on the field and we will take
(01:35:36):
it with them as well. Four point fifty nine left
in the third quarter, fourteen to seven. The Dog's putting
together a nice drive. Answer in that drive there by
the Wildcats, and we'll be right back after this time out.
You're listening to Bulldog football here on the kicker. Fourteen
to seven. Our score right now, Opolaika on the move
(01:36:00):
and it will be a first and ten for the
Bulldogs inside the forty five yard line of Benjamin Russell
down to the forty four is where the line of
scrimmage is. Bulldogs lead at fourteen to seven, four point
fifty nine left. Here in this third quarter, Kobe Key
and the Bulldogs out of an official time out back
on the field and Opelika receiver either side tailback for
(01:36:23):
the Bulldogs as Jordan Waits the junior tailback in the
ball game. Key gets the snaff and it's stopped by
the officials. I believe this is going to be thinking
off sides against Benjamin Russell. It is so five yard
penalty against Benjamin Russell, and I will have to say
(01:36:43):
we had a chance earlier today to come down and
break bread with the Benjamin Russell radio crew. Coach McCrackan
appreciates Raddy Lee and Brett.
Speaker 3 (01:36:50):
Richard and appreciate them taking care of.
Speaker 2 (01:36:53):
Us absolutely staff there at JRS in downtown Allen City
Place at Jr's Great Food Hi Formation. Here the Bulldogs
inside the forty down to the down to the thirty
nine yard line. Here on first down play action, Key
wants to take a throws deep downfield. He's got Miller
caught touchdown. Kobe Key touchdown thirty nine yard throwing catch.
(01:37:18):
Nice play action design there by Kobe Kee a throwing
strike to Jamari Miller and the Bulldogs on top twenty
to seven with four to thirty five left.
Speaker 3 (01:37:28):
That's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (01:37:32):
Beautiful play action out of the I formation there for
the Bulldogs.
Speaker 6 (01:37:36):
I didn't see that coming, didn't They did not? Now
Coach m Kraken didn't see that coming either. Play action
pass on first down. That's a great call.
Speaker 2 (01:37:45):
Here's the point after attempt by Johnny Cecina, stamp down,
kick is up and Sassina's kick is good. Twenty one
to seven. What an answer by this Bulldog offense. Four
thirty five left here in the third quarter and that
drive power by my friends in Ople like a power
services hometown people working for you online and opulakapower dot com.
(01:38:08):
We're back after this thirty second time out. You're listening,
Ople like a bulldog football Here on the kicker Kobe
Keys first touchdown throw as an Opal like a bulldog,
a big one, A thirty nine yard strike on a
play action pass to Jamari Miller who beat the defense
(01:38:28):
and had him fooled right into the end zone for
the touchdown, and Opelaka stretches the lead back to fourteen here,
twenty one to seven with four thirty five to play
here in this third quarter in Johnny Cesina back out.
Speaker 3 (01:38:39):
Put it in the end zone. Johnny, Oh good.
Speaker 2 (01:38:43):
It's a sena end over end kick, gonna be returnable
at the six yard line. Run across the fifteen, cutting
it at the twenty yard line. A flag comes in
and return guy steal on his feet somehow stayed up,
got tackled about the sixteen yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:38:59):
That's a whole flipping penalty.
Speaker 2 (01:39:02):
Well that'll be. That'll back them on, uh, back them
on up. Mac McCracken with the four seasons Federal Credit
Union Sideline Report.
Speaker 11 (01:39:09):
Matt, Yeah, this is a blocking them back right there. Hey, guys,
a tremendous job right there of running the football with
weights and hugely, which is forcing those safeties and corners
to come on up with those linebackers. And coach Atkins
just drew up a perfect, perfect dart right there to
Fat Miller right there from Mikolby Kay's first touchdown passes.
Speaker 3 (01:39:31):
An hope like a bulldog.
Speaker 10 (01:39:32):
That just look great. The more more you bite on
the run and try to stop the run, we're gonna
get you over the top.
Speaker 2 (01:39:37):
Right, all right, Thanks you much, Mac. We're you know,
we're awfully close to jolly j Stern who's listening in tonight,
Jay and hope the deer doing well and appreciates you
listening and good to see you throughout the week. Big
supporter open like a bulldog football and that penalty is
gonna back them up all the way down to the
much like the line of scrimmage is going to be
the yard line.
Speaker 3 (01:39:59):
We need to be real selfish down here. Fan, we
don't need to let him out of here.
Speaker 2 (01:40:05):
And a flag comes in.
Speaker 3 (01:40:07):
Penalty. There you go, five Adam up boys.
Speaker 4 (01:40:17):
And off sites against Opelaika.
Speaker 2 (01:40:22):
Oh, there has been some there's been a there's been
a slew of these five yard penalties tonight.
Speaker 6 (01:40:28):
That's twenty five yards and penalties that we've already got
in the third quarter, dead gummet.
Speaker 2 (01:40:35):
Lineup off sides, First and ten for the Bulldogs. That well,
I should say first and five for the Wildcats. Quick handoff.
Then nice burst through the lane by the running back t. J. Wilson. Oh,
he's got a good motor. And that was a tackle
by Alan Jackson. The linebacker comes up at a first
(01:40:56):
down run there on a short first and five for
the Wildcats line of scrim up to the eighteen yard line.
But there's a Bulldog down that's Amary Smiley down to
the fifteen yard line, and well, you hope this is
just a cramp. He's up sitting on his on his end,
and I think he's getting stretched down. I think he
(01:41:17):
just looks like a cramp, which is a good sign.
But we will take the time out here on the field.
Twenty one seven Bulldogs with the lead, Benjamin Russell of
first and ten from there on eighteen. We come back
after this time out here on the kicker Howmarri Smiley
comes out under his own power, which was good to see.
(01:41:39):
Here's a quick throw far sign dropped incomplete on first
down there for the Wildcats.
Speaker 3 (01:41:45):
That was the big boy.
Speaker 2 (01:41:49):
Twenty one seven Opelika with a lead three fifty five
to play here in this third quarter, Van Rix coach
Spence McCracken. Mac McCracken on the sidelines, Jason Lee, one
of our engineers, Jeremy Til our spider. Here we got
packed house three wide outs to the left and we
got a hoo's that on I don't see the flag
come in. I heard the whistle, did not see the flag.
(01:42:12):
I think the ball will just needed to be reset here.
Second down and ten and the Wildcats from their own
eighteen yard line. Here shotgun snap, quick throw here near side,
caught by the tailback TJ. Wilson, but quickly out of
bounds at the twenty six yard line. This will set
up a third down and out, a third and two.
Alan Jackson on the stop for the Bulldogs. Oh, this
(01:42:36):
is a short third, third and one now a really
good spot. So thirty one here for the Wildcats. Johnson
out of the shotgun from their own twenty six yard line.
They'll hand it to Wilson. Wilson cut up at the
thirty yard line. Big hit by number ninety Tremaine Thomas,
but enough for the first down. Three fourteen left, twenty
(01:43:01):
one to seven. Opalaika with the lead five wide. Look
again here for Johnson, and again a time out, this
time taken by the Bulldogs before that play could get off.
Speaker 4 (01:43:12):
So I'll be a first and ten.
Speaker 2 (01:43:18):
And a lot of cramping going on on the sidelines, Mac,
is what we were being told, and I know is
that any indication that's not good right now? Here in
the second half. We need to get the guys some
pickle juice or something.
Speaker 10 (01:43:27):
Yeah, I know, we talked about it on the right
up here. Yeah, we just defensively.
Speaker 11 (01:43:33):
You know, I saw coach Massy over there coaching them
up on that last job by the offense. We had
some guys going the wrong way a little bit on
the defense, so.
Speaker 3 (01:43:43):
They know they got us.
Speaker 10 (01:43:44):
They got a squad away here and just keep them
out of the end zone.
Speaker 11 (01:43:47):
But yeah, just look, we got to get a good
stop here, and don't do not let them score.
Speaker 10 (01:43:51):
I mean we got three or seven, sir, Mac, we.
Speaker 3 (01:43:55):
Got it, they've got it.
Speaker 6 (01:43:56):
Quit letting them make three and four and five yards
kirks Dawn the second Now, I.
Speaker 3 (01:44:01):
Agree, but don't let him run the football.
Speaker 10 (01:44:04):
Yeah, it's tough.
Speaker 11 (01:44:05):
At the same time, it's just like you and Van said,
that's a pretty sporty little running back.
Speaker 10 (01:44:08):
Oh well, by Ben Russell, I.
Speaker 2 (01:44:10):
Tell you what we need, Mac right now. We need
a defensive turnover, a pick six, and let's try to
put this game out of reach.
Speaker 10 (01:44:16):
Hey, hey, last time you called that, it worked.
Speaker 2 (01:44:19):
Hey, let's dial one up right here, man, All right,
sounds good. Matt McCracken on the sidelines. See if we
can't get a turnover right here, first and ten Benjamin
Russell from their own thirty yard line.
Speaker 8 (01:44:33):
Yeah. TJ.
Speaker 2 (01:44:34):
Wilson's impressed us tonight. He's certainly very good senior running back.
He'll get the handoff this time and again he's just
tripped up across the thirty five is up to the
thirty six yard line. He gets six more yards on
the ground.
Speaker 3 (01:44:46):
Come on, guys, you're getting knocked off the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:44:49):
Now, five nine, one seventy. He's a senior, and one
thing about him. He hits the whole quick second down
in thirty coming up for the Wildcats to forty seven
and left here in the third quarter, two wide outs
to the left side Johnson. This time he'll keep it
himself and he's tackled just short of the first down
at the thirty nine yard line. It will be third
(01:45:10):
and one coming up. Ty Hudson, number forty four comes
up for the stop for the Bulldogs. Ty Hudson's first
game in the red and black and football. He's had
a good night, been in on some big plays. Third
and one six two hundred twenty pounds middle linebackers senior
third down and one here for the Wildcats. Low snap,
(01:45:32):
got it to Wilson. He's wrapped up in the backfield,
but they blew the whistle down.
Speaker 3 (01:45:36):
He's down. He played, blew the to his knee.
Speaker 2 (01:45:38):
I think they blew the play dead, didn't Hey, yeah,
we went down on a knee.
Speaker 4 (01:45:42):
Oh there we go.
Speaker 3 (01:45:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:45:45):
So it's fourth down and that was huge.
Speaker 3 (01:45:48):
Is it fourth down?
Speaker 2 (01:45:49):
It is fourth down? So Punnington here and Jamari Miller
comes out in opaul. I's gonna get the football back up.
Two scores here, twenty one to seven. Well, one forty
nine left here in the third. Be careful here now,
I don't think coach Grider is gonna take much chances
with this with this punter here, Carson Spears, he's bobbled
one shank to one. We'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:46:09):
Is that the same guy?
Speaker 2 (01:46:11):
It looks like it. Snap down and the punt end
over end, and Miller's gonna let it roll and it'll
take a little bit of a Benjamin Russell roll down
to the twenty four yard line, but the Dogs will
get the football back. And another cramp down at the field.
Right now in the middle of the field, another Bulldog
(01:46:32):
player down dealing with these cramps here. It's Blake Johnson,
the full back, so he's going to get a drink
of water. And there's an official time out here on
the field with one twenty left here in this third quarter.
Speaker 3 (01:46:45):
Boy boy, this game's going by fast. Man.
Speaker 2 (01:46:47):
I was about to say, it feels like it's been
going all night, Coach, I don't know. I'm kind of
I'm kind of on the on the fence here. There
were so much momentum going into this game, and I
think a lot of that plays into these cramps, coach.
You know, the street the conditioning programs out standing. We
hadn't talked a little bit about Kate McGee tonight, who's
been brought over.
Speaker 4 (01:47:04):
This is interesting, coach.
Speaker 2 (01:47:05):
One thing that they're doing during the week, they are
keeping track of the miles per hour on these players,
so they know how fast they are and they time
of each week, so if they drop off and get
slower or faster, they know what's going on with them.
So Kate McGee's been doing an outstanding job. Don't forget
catch the Brian Moore show every week. We had a
great interview with him back a few weeks ago, and
(01:47:26):
you can go back and catch those replays. Also, don't
forget Coach Moore's weekly luncheons. There will be another one
Thursday night, First Baptist Church in Opelika at noon and
there'll be a link sent out on social media for
your RSVP for that great meal and great insight into
the football game each week from Coach Moore. All right,
take care of the ball van Opeleaikah out of the
time out first and ten from their own thirty from
(01:47:49):
their own twenty five yard line. Play action. Kobe Key
rolls right, throws wide open, caught at the thirty five
yard line. Nice move there had a boy by the
wide receiver that was quiz, wasn't it? Quez Johnson on
the reception number eleven. He's going to be a good
one for the Bulldogs and he got his first kitch
here in Carson.
Speaker 3 (01:48:09):
Kyle, Eefferson, Jackson, Lee, Whiplow.
Speaker 6 (01:48:11):
And Miller up front for the Dogs did a good
job of protecting good bootleg paths by Kobe Lee.
Speaker 2 (01:48:20):
Dogs up to the thirty eight yard line, first down
in ten. Just one oh four left here in the
third quarter, Opal like a leading twenty one to seven,
and there's a flag on the play. Oh man, that's
gonna be a five yard penalty against the Dogs, a
procedure penalty. There they will back up opal like of
(01:48:44):
five yards. Just under a minute to go here in
the third quarter, fifty nine seconds left and the clock
starts back on that official's whistle.
Speaker 3 (01:48:54):
Oh, I know Brian didn't like that one.
Speaker 2 (01:48:59):
Back to the thirty three yard line first in fifteen
here for the Bulldogs. Key gets the snap hand off
the tailback. I don't wait to run a nice push.
That's gonna be close to five yards. Back to the
original line of scrimtage. Scrimmage as Caleb Spivey, good job,
that's good. Rudd right there now, Calvin Hugley, the big
tail back in there, on that carry for five yards.
(01:49:24):
Under twenty seconds left now in this third quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:49:27):
This be the last play.
Speaker 3 (01:49:28):
Second teare, come on, guys.
Speaker 2 (01:49:31):
I don't think coach Moore has to make take a
snap here if he doesn't want to, and he won't
they jump jump They didn't call it.
Speaker 3 (01:49:38):
Oh goodness, let the clock right out.
Speaker 2 (01:49:44):
Are they stopped it with nine point two for some reason? Oh,
they stopped the clock. I think the clock operator thought
there was a penalty and nobody blew a whistle and
nobody threw a flag. It should be the end of
the quarter. There they go, They wind it down. So
we head to the fourth quarter, twenty one seven. The
Bulldog's on top and hopefully another drive in and we'll
(01:50:05):
close the door on Benjamin Russell tonight. But it's been
a tough one here in alex City so far. Twenty
one to seven, one quarter to go. You're listening Opelika
Bulldog football right here on ninety seven point seven Kicker
FM started the fourth quarter here Opelika will have it
(01:50:28):
second down in ten from their own thirty eight yard line.
Play action throws Jalen Washington's got it. Jalen cannot slip
through a tackle. Boy, he ad at the line of scrimmage.
They're gonna mark him down right there. Boy, have Jalen
it has slipped another tackle. He had the sidelines. But
it's gonna be third down and ten coming up here
for the Bulldogs. Boy, Jalen nearly broke that way. Third
(01:50:51):
down and ten from their own thirty eight yard line.
Bulldogs trying to keep this drive going here into the
fourth quarter, twenty one seven. Opelika with the here in
Alexander City five wide. Look here for Kolby Keen. Now
he'll move Jamori Miller in motion from right to left.
They'll just throw it out to Miller trying to get
a block. Miller turning into sidelines.
Speaker 4 (01:51:10):
He's hit.
Speaker 2 (01:51:11):
Won't make it back to the line of scrimmage. I
think you will make it the line of scrimmage. So
second effort, but it's going to be fourth down Dogs.
We'll have to punt it back to Benjamin Russell.
Speaker 3 (01:51:19):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:51:20):
So unfortunately that drive stalls out. Eleven o six left.
Still a two score lead here for the Bulldogs up
twenty one to seven.
Speaker 3 (01:51:27):
Cyon Henderson needs to get off a quick punt here.
Speaker 6 (01:51:29):
Now they they've been bringing the bringing the uh the
pressure on him.
Speaker 2 (01:51:36):
Yeah, well, Javius Kloon's going to go back to punt
the field.
Speaker 4 (01:51:39):
This punt.
Speaker 6 (01:51:39):
We got to Oh, okay, Cayden Riley as your snap
Camden Riley is your snapper.
Speaker 3 (01:51:45):
Got to get this off good. Now, get a good punt,
and I.
Speaker 2 (01:51:51):
Believe we're going to have a what is I'm out
taken by Benjamin Russell. So Benjamin Russell going to take
a time out here, That's okay, interesting. Yeah, interesting, time
for a time out. Let's head down for a four
seasons Federal Credit Union Sideline Report, MAG. What you got
for is roaming the sidelines tonight.
Speaker 11 (01:52:07):
Spirits are high right now, as you can imagine, and
we just got to, you know, keep of course, keep
playing good, uh good defensive late.
Speaker 2 (01:52:15):
So uh, how is cow Is Mayor fuller in the
uh in as in as coach mccracky, our coach McCracken said,
his cronies down on the sidelines.
Speaker 11 (01:52:23):
Well, I saw him earlier before the game, and I
saw him in halftime, and and of course they're they're
all fired up.
Speaker 2 (01:52:29):
And I will I will say this.
Speaker 11 (01:52:32):
I think this might be the first time in history
that we've heard that UH coach uh Mayor actually picked
up the tab.
Speaker 2 (01:52:39):
For dinner this time. Oh look out man, Well there
you go.
Speaker 3 (01:52:43):
Wait.
Speaker 2 (01:52:43):
Thanks MAG. Four Seasons Federal Credit Union Sideline Report. What
an outstanding crowd for Opalaika two pack pack stands on
the visiting side and it and it really was a
great crowd here on the home side here tonight, great
atmosphere here to kick off the season. Dogs back to
punt here with ten forty four left in the ball game.
Speaker 3 (01:53:01):
What is that?
Speaker 2 (01:53:02):
And we got another I don't see a flag. They've
had some issues trying to get the clock started and
the ball set. No flag on the play. Just to
quit quick little stoppings there and play it's Ion Henderson.
It's the snap at the twenty five end over end
punt punts it away from the return man and Brody
(01:53:25):
Jones will let it take a roll to the twenty
eight yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:53:27):
So that's where.
Speaker 2 (01:53:31):
And itys where Benjamin Russell will start first and ten
from their own twenty eight yard line. And if you're
Benjamin Russell, you need a score on this drive. Ten
thirty five a left here in this ballgame. The Bulldogs
of Opal like I lead at twenty one to seven.
Speaker 3 (01:53:45):
Come on, Date.
Speaker 6 (01:53:49):
Stenson, light foot octree and Smiley up front, hunts it
and board at the linebackers right, they're gonna try to
rub the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:53:56):
Van Yes, certain, it's time to get some pressure on
this quarterback too. Johnson out of the shideaway, out of
way to the receiver to the right side, and got
to watch number one. So Darian Morgan, he's lined up
as the inside receiver. Wildcats are there on twenty eight
yard line. Johnson gets the snamp, hands it off to Wilson.
(01:54:17):
Wilson wrapped up in the backfield. Ty Hudson comes in there,
but first up there it was Jaki Lightfoot and then
Hudson on the assist.
Speaker 3 (01:54:24):
Had a boy. That's a big play Van and was
a two.
Speaker 2 (01:54:27):
Yard loss second down in twelve with ten twenty left
in the ball game. Yes, sir, coming up here for
the Wildcats of Benjamin Russell.
Speaker 3 (01:54:33):
Go throw it right here now.
Speaker 2 (01:54:36):
And it's a five wide look here for Johnson out
of the shotgun, gets the snap, drops back, quick throw
and it's calling, My goodness, what a hint by the Bulldogs.
Kavian King number eight laid down the wide receiver of
Benjamin Russell right when he caught it at the thirty
yard line. Big time hint from mister King.
Speaker 3 (01:54:54):
WHOOA had a boy. All right, here's your big play Van.
Speaker 2 (01:55:00):
Oh he owes. I'm a thank you note after the
game for that he had, My goodness. Third and eight
coming up here for the Wildcats.
Speaker 3 (01:55:05):
It's huge right here to go to number one. Now,
this is a huge Hugh come over.
Speaker 2 (01:55:12):
Here, call here for this Wildcat offense trips or savers
to the left side. Johnson drops back, throws short and
it's incomplete intended for number fifteen friend Cedric Thomas, and
it's incomplete. Good coverage over here by Kiev and King again.
And I believe King has got a little bit of
a cramp here at the thirty yard line as he
(01:55:33):
tries to stretch it out. But it's fourth down coming
up for the Wildcats, fourth and eight. As coach Grider,
frustrated here sends out the punting team he knows his
chances are are shortening up here with nine to twenty
seven lift in the ball game, down two scores here
at open like a twenty one to seven.
Speaker 6 (01:55:51):
Hey, Mac, patcha, yo, gotta tell that offense now let's go. Yeah,
they're ready, we gotta, Hey, we gotta make some first
downs here.
Speaker 10 (01:55:59):
Now, Fat Mike taking us one of the house that
they kick a line drive in.
Speaker 2 (01:56:02):
Well, hey, that'll be just fine, Mac, if that happens, great,
all right. The punter for the Wildcats stands back at
the eleven yard line. That's Carson Spears, and Miller stands
at the forty one awaiting this punt. Snap is their
Spears puts a high knuckleball punt but good coverage down
field by the Wildcats, Miller has to call a fair
(01:56:24):
catch at the forty two yard line. That's where the
Bulldogs will take over first in ten, with nine to
twenty left in our ball game and Opalaka with a
twenty one to seven lead.
Speaker 3 (01:56:36):
Yeah, this is it. This is hey, fan, this is
the big drive right here. We've got to make up
our minds.
Speaker 2 (01:56:43):
Here now, Opelaika from their on forty two yard line
will start this drive first in ten.
Speaker 3 (01:56:52):
Thomas Jefferson, Lee Whitload and Miller up front.
Speaker 2 (01:56:55):
Here for the Orthopedic Clinic broadcast booth here at the
sports blanks at Alexander City. Two receivers to the right
side and Coleby Key out of the shotgun and Calvin
Hugly gets the hand off left side. Hugly bounces it out,
stays on his feet. Good heart running there by Hugly.
He's up to the forty four yard line and a
(01:57:22):
shorter pickup than I thought. It was only two yards. Well,
Hugly got the ball so far deep in the backfield.
Speaker 3 (01:57:30):
And he got he up further than that.
Speaker 4 (01:57:32):
Yeah, he only got two yards.
Speaker 2 (01:57:35):
To the forty four second down and eight Hugly stays
in in the tailback spot. Coleby Key out of the
shot gun. Two receivers to the right side. Key gets
the hand off, he goes to Calvin Hugly. Hugli again
runs into a brick wall. Just no push at all.
Right there, It's going to be third and eight coming
up as we wind it down to eight thirty four
(01:57:55):
left in the ball game. Some substitutions coming in for Opelik.
It'll be Jordan Waits who checks in the ball game
at tail bag.
Speaker 3 (01:58:10):
Lots of people. We've got to make a first down
here now.
Speaker 2 (01:58:14):
So third down and eight, eight twelve remaining here in
the ballgame. Hop of like a leading twenty one to seven.
Colby Key with a hard count nearly got the defense
to jump hey Key changing his play at the line
of scrimmage. Now Johnson will come in tight. Two receivers right,
single receiver to the left side, and again Waits remains
the loan back to the left of Key. Colby drops back,
(01:58:36):
wants to pass. Flushed out of the pocket now on
the run to the right, will just heave it down
field and Miller tips it up. Now that hasuly the
fender tipped it up and it's incomplete. It was over
Miller's said Jamari, and then it was tipped up down
field by Caleb Robinson of Benjamin Russell.
Speaker 4 (01:58:57):
Good coverage down field by the Wildcats.
Speaker 2 (01:59:00):
The climb was seven forty four, So the Bulldog's unable
to put the nail in the coffin on that drive
and they'll have to punt it back to the Wildcats
here with seven forty four.
Speaker 6 (01:59:09):
Left, sign's got we've got a little better snap by Camden,
throw it back up to him, get it off here.
Speaker 2 (01:59:17):
Go and that time Henderson shank this punt and it
took a roll right at the forty two yard line,
So it's about about a fifteen yard punt, a shorter
that I think. So Benjamin Russell gonna have some really
(01:59:37):
good field position. They'll start from their own forty two
yard line fourteen yards on that punt, and Hooper, well,
if you're coach Grinder, you're running out of chances. You
really need to do something on this drive here, seven
(02:00:00):
thirty four left in the ball game and coach Grider
running the offensive show over there for Benjamin Russell has
a long talk to his group before they head back
out on the field. Got to bow your neck here now,
and if you're Benjamin Russell, if you score here, you
get this momentum backed, big, big opportunity here for this
defense though, for Opelika to come up with a stop.
(02:00:21):
Need one here.
Speaker 3 (02:00:23):
Come on.
Speaker 2 (02:00:23):
Johnson rolls to his right, throws and it is well
defended there nicely by Carson Moss.
Speaker 4 (02:00:29):
But a flag comes in.
Speaker 6 (02:00:34):
Play.
Speaker 2 (02:00:37):
Well, I have no idea. I mean that this is interference,
certainly a little like good coverage. They're going to get
a pass interference on Opelaikah or that's a tough call.
(02:00:59):
I thought MA got there right when the ball got there,
and he knocked it away. It's going to be a
fifteen yard penalty and a big one there for for
Benjamin Russell. Seven twenty seven left twenty one seven Opelaka
with the leave, but the Wildcats now in Opelika territory
thanks to that pass interference penalty hound of the forty
(02:01:22):
three yard line. Come on, Dave, been looking for that
turnover coach. We need one here on defense right now.
Come on, Johnson, with two receivers to his right side,
gets the shotgun, stamp hands the ball off. No play action.
You got to take a deep shot. He's got a
(02:01:42):
guy wide open inside the five. Touchdown. Prince Cedric Thomas
on the play action, a beautifully thrown ball there by
Elijah Johnson, and the Wildcats are right back in. It
was seven twenty one left, great design rpo there by
Coach Smitty.
Speaker 3 (02:02:03):
Rider, bad offensive group. We didn't make a yard.
Speaker 6 (02:02:08):
Then we made a bad punt. They get the ball
back interference call, touchdown. They're right back in the game.
Big time throw, big time Cats. There Thomas comes up
with that touchdown. It was a forty three yard throwing catch,
(02:02:30):
extra point up and good wild Cats right back in
at twenty one fourteen, seven twenty.
Speaker 3 (02:02:35):
One to go.
Speaker 2 (02:02:36):
Don't go anywhere here. Let's dope like a bulldog football
right here on the kicker. Alexander City scores. Benjamin Russell
scores rather here in Alexander City, and it's twenty one
(02:02:58):
to fourteen and the Dogs up by seven. But boy,
the momentum on the side of the Wildcats of Benjamin
Russell right now and coach McCracken dogs need unanswer. And
with seven twenty one left, momentum is a is a
huge thing right now and now, and Benjamin Russell's got.
Speaker 3 (02:03:18):
It absolutely well.
Speaker 6 (02:03:19):
We're gonna have to make up our minds here because
they got all the momentum.
Speaker 2 (02:03:29):
A well thrown ball, forty three yard touchdown throwing catch
there from their quarterback Tji should say Elijah Johnson hooked
up with friend Cedric Thomas for the touchdown and Kobe
Key in this outfen is gonna have to answer short
kick and Brody Jones has it at the twenty yard
(02:03:49):
line and Brody hit right at the twenty five yard line,
falls up to the thirty yard line by They wanted
to keep the ball out of the danger Jamari Miller,
and that was worked out nicely there. Actually gonna mark
him down at the twenty nine yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:04:11):
Man, this offense is gonna have to get with it now.
They got whipped the last time.
Speaker 2 (02:04:21):
Seven thirteen left here in this ballgame and Opelika hanging
on right now to a touchdown lead twenty one to
fourteen over the wild Cats of Benjamin Russell dogs for
there on twenty eight yard line. Hand off in the
backfield goes to Calvin Hugly. Kugley carries it up to
the thirty two yard line. He'll pick up three yards
(02:04:44):
under seven minutes to go. It'll be second down and
seven coming up here for the Bulldogs. Jamari Miller in
the ballgame. Calvin Hugly stays in the ballgame. Kolby Key
out of the shotgun six forty five left hard count
thereby Key. He'll check the side lines, getting his signal
in Rody Jones a white out to the left, Jamari Miller,
(02:05:07):
the white out to the right, Blake Johnson. The full
back handoff goes to Calvin Hugly out of the shotgun
formation across the thirty five. Calvin carries up to the
thirty six yard line. It'll be four yards on the
ground and a third down and three coming up here
four the Bulldogs. We'll see number eighty eight Julian Britchett
(02:05:28):
check in the ball game. Also another blocking tied end.
Third down and three under center I formation goes the
Bulldogs Koby Keith. This time we'll check the sidelines and
now he'll go back under center. Hits the snap hand off,
bouncing it outside as Hugely. A flag comes in and
(02:05:50):
Hugely's got the first down, but there's going to be
another holding flag on that outfensive line.
Speaker 3 (02:05:56):
He's in this game. Five a trip to the car.
Speaker 2 (02:06:04):
So it'll be third down, but it'll be third down
and eight coming up here for the bull are longer
than that, thirteen and an official timeout on the field.
Five point fifty one left. A third down and long
coming up here for the Bulldogs. All the momentum on
the side. Right now, Benjamin Russell will take a quick
(02:06:26):
time out. Twenty one fourteen O Pelaika with the lead.
We're back after this time out here on the kick.
Third and thirteen coming up here for Pelaka Dogs hanging
on right now to a twenty one to fourteen lead
with five fifty one remaining. A huge forty three yard
(02:06:49):
touchdown passed by Benjamin Russell got the Wildcats back within
a score and now a holding penalty's got the Dogs
backed up here. Third and thirteen O Pelaika. Dogs with
there on it, twenty six yard line and the crown
on their feet. Kobe King out of the shotgun, Key
drops back, throws deep down the Middle's got a man open.
(02:07:09):
It's called inside the thirty five thirty inside the twenty
of us. Jalen Washington ten five Jalen Washington touchdown.
Speaker 5 (02:07:17):
Hello neighbor, Jalen Washington scores touchdown Bulldogs. Welcome to varsity football.
My friend, that's my neighbor. Oh boy, Yes, sir Jalen.
What a throw, what a catch?
Speaker 2 (02:07:33):
And what a run after the catch by Jalen Washington.
Speaker 3 (02:07:37):
Yes, sir, cal that's why you don't bet on football.
Speaker 4 (02:07:44):
Whoa Jalen was wide open?
Speaker 2 (02:07:47):
I'm gonna tell you one thing, Coach, Jalen has got
some wheels and he's gonna be a good one. What
a catch there by Jalen. And what a run after
the catch. And hey, where's your throw by Kobe Keith.
Speaker 3 (02:07:57):
There's your playmaker there he is.
Speaker 2 (02:08:00):
Great poise in the pocket too by Kolby kit extra
point up and good.
Speaker 4 (02:08:04):
What a throw?
Speaker 2 (02:08:05):
What a catch? Extra point good? Dogs back up by
two scorers twenty eight to fourteen. Mister Washington with a
touchdown catch and we're back after this time out. You're
listening to the Bulldog football here on the kicker. Welcome
back here to Alexander City. What a throw, what a catch?
Key to Washington? Maybe the dagger. We'll see two score
(02:08:26):
lead here, five thirty one left wild catch a mentioned.
The Russell offense has been clicking though on all cylinders.
The Dogs needed that one though.
Speaker 6 (02:08:34):
On a third and twelve, Wow, what a great play,
seventy four yard touchdown.
Speaker 3 (02:08:45):
Knocking in the end zone, Johnny.
Speaker 2 (02:08:48):
Johnny Siscia, you go hens over round kick and that
one is in the end zone and a touchback. Good
kick by Johnny Cecina. So five point thirty one left
here in the ball game, twenty eight fourteen and mac McCracken.
That got the sideline going, didn't it.
Speaker 11 (02:09:03):
Hey, let me tell you this before they run that play,
coach Jendie Atkins office, Cornator told.
Speaker 10 (02:09:09):
Him and he said, boys, stay composed.
Speaker 6 (02:09:12):
Here.
Speaker 11 (02:09:12):
He told the front He said, guys, I gotta have
some time for Colby here to do this thing. And
it worked out perfectly. And Ny, so your next foor neighbor, Oh.
Speaker 4 (02:09:20):
Jalen's my boy down the street. I've known Jalen for
a year.
Speaker 11 (02:09:23):
Hey, there we go, great great, great throw, great protection,
great speed right there by the junior Washington had, Hey,
let's get the stop.
Speaker 2 (02:09:32):
Right here defensively, absolutely first and ten lit cats from
their on twenty yard line. See if that fired this
defense up their quarterback Johnson out of the shotgun. He
rolls right now. I wants to go back left, come on,
flushed up in the pocket chunks one way downfield. Nobody hauled.
He tried to hook up with Morgan, but overthrew them
(02:09:53):
by about fifteen yards. Now I get excited for Jalen Now, coach,
he's he's just a great kid, great kid, and he's
a junior and he's gonna be good.
Speaker 6 (02:10:03):
And but anyway, Jeremy Dillard, Keeling Jones, Robert Woods and
Ky Trell Foreman and Eric Mason are the number two
defense front up there. They're doing a good job up there.
Speaker 4 (02:10:16):
File katz r.
Speaker 2 (02:10:17):
They're on twenty yard line, second down and ten, two
whine outs left side singer receiver of the right sell
rolling here near sight is Johnson. He's tackled by Tyler
Moore back in the ten yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:10:29):
Ball came out.
Speaker 2 (02:10:30):
They'll say he was down. There's the sack we needed.
Mister Moore comes in there in a row and tackles
him down back in the ten yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:10:38):
That was TJ.
Speaker 6 (02:10:39):
Thomas, Bonie Thomas, Josh Davis, and Jordan Stintz. Excuse me,
the front four, the number two's.
Speaker 3 (02:10:46):
Up there playing a lot tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:10:48):
Now, boy, Tyler Moore, what a story he hurt his
knee acl injury in the scrimmage last year in the
Red and Black scrimmage. So you know what coach Moore did.
He says, you're not playing in the scrimmage game. We're
at least getting you to a week one And here
is out here making a big sack. Go third and nineteen.
Now back at the eleven yard line as the Wildcats here,
three man rush, come on you three get twoing Johnson
(02:11:11):
out of the shotgun formation. It's a low snap drops back.
They're wanting to set up a screen read beautifully by
the Bulldogs. Nice ackle in the backfield by number five,
and that was Carson Mass coming in there and making
the stop. Fourth down and a mile coming up here
for Benjamin Russell. What an answer by this defense. Coach
(02:11:32):
Adam Massey's butche answering to the call here after that
offensive score, four oh nine left here in the ball game.
The punting team comes out for coach Grider twenty eight
to fourteen. Opelaika with the lead, and here comes that
punting team.
Speaker 3 (02:11:45):
Oh, we got great field position coming up from absolutely.
Speaker 2 (02:11:48):
Jamari Miller is standing at the forty inside the forty
five yard line awaiting this punt. The the punter, Carson Spears,
is five yards deep in his end zone.
Speaker 4 (02:12:04):
It's the snap.
Speaker 2 (02:12:05):
Spears boots this one away and immediately Jamari calls for
the fair catch, makes the catch at the forty three
yard line and Bulldogs have it at the Benjamin Russell
forty three up, two stores with three thirty six left
here at the Sportsplex in Alexander City. Well, it's been
a sloppy first game on both sides. But I think, coach,
when you needed a play to be made, the Bulldogs
(02:12:28):
have done it twice today. The big throw from kolbe
Key twice he hit Miller and then he hit Jalen Washington. Boy,
I'll tell you what two good throws too.
Speaker 3 (02:12:36):
That one awesome. We couldn't do that last year.
Speaker 9 (02:12:44):
Van.
Speaker 2 (02:12:48):
Here come the Bulldogs out and this is one thing
they want to do. Finish this game. Just three thirty
six left. Let's not let Benjamin Russell get out on
the field again. On the forty three yard line, Key
hands it off. This is the big fellow, Blake Johnson,
the full back, across the thirty five yard line. They'll
mark him down at the thirty four yard line. They
(02:13:09):
mark it down he's a big child, he's a big man.
He the Blake Johnson's five nine two who.
Speaker 3 (02:13:18):
Good looking kid.
Speaker 2 (02:13:19):
Yeah, he's a he's a cannonball coming at you eight
yards on that run by Johnson that sets up a
second down in two at the thirty five yard line.
Hand off again to the big fellow, Blake Johnson. He
rumbles ahead for a labor transfer in storage, first down
(02:13:40):
down to.
Speaker 4 (02:13:41):
The twenty nine yard line.
Speaker 3 (02:13:42):
Just keep keep doing it.
Speaker 2 (02:13:49):
Now, I'll mark it down at the twenty nine yard line.
I have a Lambert transferring storage first down. And we
certainly hope mister Carlton Huntley gets better soon. He's had
some back issues, and coach, I know he was your
neighbor for a long time. And mister Carton a great
guy and certainly wish him the best in a speedy recovery.
Speaker 3 (02:14:09):
You need to come back there and do another commercial force.
Speaker 4 (02:14:11):
He'll be there soon, I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (02:14:13):
To twenty nine left here in the ball game, first
and ten Bulldogs at the thirty there's Calvin Hugley inside
the twenty five and Hugly running over wild cats down
to the twenty three yard line, and that is a
right had a six yard pick up six yards.
Speaker 3 (02:14:31):
Hey, mag it's good stuff here.
Speaker 10 (02:14:34):
Yeah, it's kip it on the ground here. We'll get
out of here, head on back to the old with the.
Speaker 2 (02:14:38):
W Another score would certainly look good on Friday night
football fever.
Speaker 6 (02:14:44):
Though, Mack that offensive line, Now, that was the most
unbelievable play. I wish every Bulldog fan could have seen
that about five minutes ago.
Speaker 2 (02:14:55):
We'll have the highlights up. I'm sure one fifty six
left here. Dogs trying to run this clock out twenty
eight to fourteen. See if one of these Bulldogs can
break one here. Yeah, nice move in the backfield by
Calvin Hugley and he spins his way down to the
fifteen yard line. Out of bounds though at the sixteen
yard line, that'll stop the clock with one forty two,
(02:15:16):
But it is a first down, a Lambert transfer and
stwads first down. It will move the chains here with
one forty two left.
Speaker 3 (02:15:22):
Calvin's just like his daddy.
Speaker 6 (02:15:23):
See he's just the more he runs, the better he gets.
Kean's a proud daddy tonight.
Speaker 3 (02:15:30):
Well.
Speaker 2 (02:15:30):
The traffic on the home side is starting to pile
up here as folks are heading towards the exits great
place to watch a football game, though all handed to
Alexander City. They do it right here. It's a great
atmosphere for football game. Look forward to them coming over
next year. A hand off to Tommy Johnson at the
(02:15:52):
fifteen yard line. Coach. One thing about this team, they
only have eighteen seniors. A lot of these playmakers back.
They lose the running back, Johnson, the junior. He'll be back,
Sadarian Morgan. Unfortunately, he'll be back. He's a junior. Got
that wrong one at seventeen. The clock continues to roll.
(02:16:16):
Looks like coach Moore's content to let this like wind
on down here. Second down in ten coming up here
for the Bulldogs and Opelaika will line up here with
as the play clock winds on down under a minute
to go, and it's an option play, Colby Key will
(02:16:37):
keep it himself run out of bounds. I don't think
he wanted to do that, but our coach Moore may
not have wanted to do that. Fifty two seconds left here,
twenty eight to fourteen, Dogs with the lead here, fifty
two seconds away from coach Moore picking up his first
(02:17:00):
win as a head coach. Wasn't easy Dogs were challenged.
I think they needed a challenge coach out of the gate,
and they got one here tonight by this team.
Speaker 3 (02:17:09):
Yes, sir, it's this is a good football team they're playing.
Speaker 4 (02:17:13):
Because the schedule gets harder. There's no doubt.
Speaker 2 (02:17:17):
Yes, Ceja Sanky slips in the ball game too. Now
he will get a chance here, sophomore quarterback. It was
back and forth for a long time between these two quarterbacks,
and the handoff goes straight up the middle. There number
twenty eight on the handoff. That's Jalen Nelson, a young
sophomore running back, then gets a handoff.
Speaker 4 (02:17:40):
Yeah, that may be it.
Speaker 3 (02:17:43):
Yeah, don't run another play.
Speaker 2 (02:17:50):
As the Dogs are content to let this cluck wind on.
Down twenty four seconds left, Sankey out of the shot.
I think Dogs will run one the more play here
and off goes to Neilson gets a block outside and
got the first down. That's it, Bright, that will be
(02:18:12):
the last play of the ball game. Is down to three,
they stop it with three point one seconds left. I
think coach Grider and then will point to the box.
They're ready to head across the midfield when they got
the clock stop. Now they started back and that is
the end of the ball game. Dogs a winner here
in Alexander City tonight over the Benjamin Russell Wildcat's final
(02:18:34):
score here tonight from the Sportsplex twenty eight to fourteen.
Coming up next, it's our post game show and it's
presented to you by Jeff Coachran Funeral Home. We'll come
back a little bit later on. We'll have, of course
postgame thoughts and we'll visit with coach Brian Moore as
our postgame show comes your way. Next, it's the postgame
(02:19:00):
Show presented by Jeff Coach Tran Funeral Hall by Van
Riggs alongside coach Spence McCracken. Dogs a winner tonight twenty
eight fourteen over the Benjamin Russell Wildcats. And boy, these
dogs were challenged tonight, Coach McCracken, but they came out
on top. And that's the that's the main thing here.
They got the win. And I know there's a big
one here for coach Moore to get his first win,
(02:19:20):
and plenty to go back and watch on the film,
but it's always better to watch the film when you
want it to correct your mistakes.
Speaker 6 (02:19:28):
Right, absolutely, And I would imagine that your neighbor, oh
he will be uh, he'll be happy.
Speaker 3 (02:19:35):
You need to feed him a stake one night this week.
Speaker 2 (02:19:38):
He's gonna be running around the neighborhood with the chess
poketow that's for sure, but he could certainly.
Speaker 4 (02:19:42):
I'll be happy to I'll just tell you.
Speaker 6 (02:19:46):
The game turned around in the third quarter when we
when our offense didn't do anything, and then we got
a bad punt, and then we got a penalty, and
then they threw that touchdown and we're down by seven.
And then we come out there and we don't do
anything until third down, and then third down comes third
(02:20:09):
and thirteen Van Riggs and we throw a touchdown pass
to Jalen unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (02:20:17):
Well, there's a fired up bunch down there on the field.
And let me tell you, going on the road and
high school football is tough, and coming on the road
here to the sports Plex is tough, especially against team
coach by a great coach like coach Smity Grider. And
he's got playmakers over there. He lost some from last year.
But this is going to be a good six A
ball team again and a great challenge right out of
the gate, for sure. Here in the sports Plex in
(02:20:38):
Alexander City, Dogs Winter twenty eight fourteen. It is our
postgame show presented to you by Jeff Coach Trant Funeral Home.
We come back a bit later on. We'll have coach
More down on the field with Mac McCracken as our
postgame show continues. After this, you're listening to Opla like
a football in ninety seven point seven Kicker FM. Welcome
(02:21:00):
back to this post game show presenting to you by
Jeff coachr And Funeral Home and Dogs winned tonight twenty
eight to fourteen over the Benjamin Russell Wildcats. Make McCracken
standing by down on the field with Coach Moore.
Speaker 11 (02:21:10):
Thanks Van, I'm here with a coach, coach, Brian Moore. Coach,
this one's got to be special. This is your first
win as the head football coach of the opal Lika Bulldogs,
and you had almost entire city come down, come up
to eighty to watch this victory. Here, hard fault, just
give us your takeaways from the I know we talked
about the first half, but the second half. You know,
(02:21:32):
Coach Grider's teams are always gonna be hard well coach teams.
But hey, you boys didn't quit. They prevailed at the
end with the w just give us your thoughts.
Speaker 7 (02:21:41):
Yeah, I mean, you know, the coaching me wants to say,
you know, we got a lot of fix, because we do.
But honestly, being in it this long and this you know,
being where I started my career, it's a special night,
man especial night for our kids in our city, and
I'm just thankful. I'm just just grateful for all the
people involved that you know, brought my family here and
but this night is about our kids and just proud
(02:22:01):
of the way they played.
Speaker 3 (02:22:02):
And You're right, perseverance is the word. I mean. We
did fight back.
Speaker 7 (02:22:06):
We had some we got behind the change, you know,
three different times in the first half. We had five
offensive drives, three of them with holding calls here first
and twenty. Those were really really tough to overcome, especially
because we're protecting Kobe. And then we finally let him
go late and he threw the ball to Fat and
then the ball to Jwash right there at the end,
and huge, huge playing the game because we're up one
score and that was his first read. He stuck with it,
(02:22:28):
great protection and we're able to get over topping the
jail and finished. Just really really proud of our team.
Proud of our defense right there, you know we'll go
up two scores. They get a big stop Tyler Moore.
How about him being out all year last year, being
able to come back, man, just a great story protected
him all camp and even in the summer, and for
him to come back make a huge play in the
backfield and then Carson to finish. Really the game was
(02:22:50):
just huge. So just again, really proud of our team.
We got to get better, but this is a great
night and just thank the Lord, Praise the Lord man
this for this opportunity.
Speaker 3 (02:22:58):
So proud of the dogs tonight.
Speaker 11 (02:23:01):
Coach, I gonst send you up to two happy people
up in the press box. I know one of them's
got a neighbor that he wants to talk to you about.
Speaker 2 (02:23:07):
Absolutely. Hey, coach, congratulations first off on the win. Yeah
Mac Jaleen I was. I was thrilled to death for him.
But I want to you know, your quarterback, you mentioned it,
but I just want to talk a little bit more
about that because you know you had to bring him
along slowly in this game, but when it mattered the most,
he made some huge plays for you, two huge passes.
Just talk about the confidence you had on him and
(02:23:28):
just how much he grew tonight just as a player.
Speaker 7 (02:23:30):
Well he's a gamer, you know, and so you know,
we kind of saw that at the cleatch Chapple game.
We kind of thought the game would be big for
him and it wasn't. And same thing tonight. You know,
he was calling for it to a point where during
the game, Brody Jones came over as to coach, he's
got to you know, he's got to chill his body
language out because he wants to throw the ball because
we were at so heavy run.
Speaker 3 (02:23:48):
But that was by design. But that's what you want
out of your queue.
Speaker 7 (02:23:51):
You want a guy that wants the ball in the
biggest moments, third down and long right there, we had
to convert.
Speaker 3 (02:23:56):
I did not want to give it back to them because.
Speaker 7 (02:23:58):
They had gotten hot in the second half on offense.
Speaker 3 (02:24:00):
And just made a heck of a throw.
Speaker 7 (02:24:01):
And then super proud of Gilling whch You cannot find
a better human being than that kid. And for him
to be able to finish this game and to put
us back up two scores, you know, then and then
the other pieces of the game. Johnny goes right out
and kicks one in the end zone. So they started
the twenty defense rises up. Just just really proud of
our team. We got to get better, but there were
some real bright spots tonight, and just excited again for
(02:24:23):
our city and our program.
Speaker 2 (02:24:24):
You've got good kids and I and Jalen's one of them.
But boy, they're just great kids, and I know you
enjoy coaching them. Talk about the defense coach they had.
I mean, they had to come out there and make
a huge stop there because you know, they go down
to score right back in the situation where the momentum
is back on their shoulders, and boy did they answer coaching.
And I were sitting here, going, we got to get
that quarterback, and boy did we ever.
Speaker 7 (02:24:42):
We finally got home. You know, we were it's just
so tough with one, you know, out there and you're
so reluctant to send pressure because you're taking a guy
out of the coverage and and so you know, Adam,
you know, towards the end of the ball game, said, man,
we got to cut it loose, and we did, and
he made some great calls. You know, we had some
opportunities to hit him early and he kind of slid
out of there, you know, and we just got to
do a better job of him and him up and uh,
(02:25:03):
you know so, there's just, like I said, so much
to fix.
Speaker 3 (02:25:06):
We're heavily penalized tonight. We have to clean that up,
you know.
Speaker 8 (02:25:10):
So.
Speaker 7 (02:25:10):
But again, for our team to take care of the
football tonight and then and then rise up in the
biggest moments was huge.
Speaker 4 (02:25:15):
All right, Coach, Well you got something, Coach Kragan.
Speaker 6 (02:25:18):
Yeah, Brian, I want to agree with you completely. We
got to clean up our holding penalties. We had six
holding penalties tonight. And you know these officials, you know
they gonna they you call holding every play if you
wanted to, you know, but just get that cleaned up.
And you know that drive that that our offense had
(02:25:41):
the ball, and the one that we didn't do much
on and then our punter punted one about fifteen yards
and then you know, we then we got a penalty.
It's like we had three bad things happened to us
right in the row. And then they threw the touchdown pass.
And I'm gonna tell you something, when it got to
be third down and we get that touchdown pass, Hey,
(02:26:04):
I'm not a doubt in Thomas. I probably I'm not.
I promise I'm not, but that was one of the
greatest plays I've ever seen. Hey, and that turned the
whole ball game around that that was that was incredible,
Hoss And uh, and I'm so happy for you to
come back to Opalaika and lead our dogs. And uh,
(02:26:25):
I'm just privileged you call you my friend brother, Thank you.
I appreciate it. Coach, Well, you're right.
Speaker 7 (02:26:30):
I mean there were some things right there, you know
that we didn't do well and and Zion really punted it. Well,
you know, this is his first opportunity to go out
there and really that short field. Then they go double
move and and they're in the end zone. We're back
to a score that just can't happen, you know. And
so we've got to continue to learn. Like I keep saying,
the word is consistent, and right now we're just not
(02:26:50):
very consistent. And there's some spurts of really good ball
and we got to figure out how to get that
and we will.
Speaker 3 (02:26:56):
That's you know, that's coaching.
Speaker 7 (02:26:57):
Let's get get your team more consistent, more urgent, and
how they go through their work.
Speaker 8 (02:27:01):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (02:27:02):
And then understand, you know, the the competitive edge and
when you get in those moments we had the ball
up coach.
Speaker 7 (02:27:07):
You know this big part. There are two major parts
I thought of this game. One, in the second half,
they took the first drive and win a and scored.
You know, you always talked about the first five minutes,
and we didn't do a very good job. Then we answered,
which was huge.
Speaker 6 (02:27:19):
But then the second thing was, you know, we just
didn't do a very good job with short fields tonight.
We had several opportunities, you know, down there inside their
forty and we just didn't capitalize, especially in the first half.
I thought we could have pushed the game out and
we just didn't do that. So again, and then the
last thing was we had a we had a two
score lead in the fourth and we couldn't get first ouns.
You know, we were three and out, three and out.
It can't happen. And we got another hold and we
(02:27:42):
did there too. Man, I wanted to I wanted to
hold those officials, but well, you know, it's one of
those I can't wait to see it on film that
some of them were, you know, definitely holding and we've
got to clean that up and and but we will.
And just just proud for our kids to come on
the road in a tough environment.
Speaker 3 (02:27:56):
And win.
Speaker 7 (02:27:57):
It'll be awesome in Bulldog Stadium next week. Can't wait
to see everybody come out glee. I want I want
