Welcome to the '5th Thing' with Amy & Kat!! Today’s episode is a Q&A. Yep!! You sent in questions…Kat asked them…Amy answered them. The intention was “Rapid Fire Q&A” but brevity isn’t Amy’s thing, so some answers took longer than others! The chat was really fun…we hope you enjoy it! Oh, and remember the quote for this episode: “Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business.”

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Happy Tuesday. Welcome to the Fifth Thing with Amy and Cat.
Today is an official Q and A episode that's kind
of what the Fifth Thing has been, and some of
them are through emails, which I do have some really
good emails I want to get to. But today's episode
is going to be like a rapid fire Q and
A or all try to answer as rapidly as possible.
I don't know that you can do rapid fire rapid

(00:26):
fires like a one word, I know some of them.
I will, I'll try, I'll try. I know brevity is
not my my thing, but I put up one of
those question boxes on Instagram and said I would answer
you know some on the Fifth Thing Today's episode, which
we're doing. But there was a lot of really good questions.
So the great news is some of them are going
to be today and we'll do another rapid fire episode

(00:47):
coming up in the coming weeks. You know, there's fifty
two weeks in a year, so we got well given
some vacation time, but we have at least maybe forty
eight fifty episodes where we questions. So that being said to,
you can send your emails, thoughts, questions, whatever to Four
Things with Amy Brown at gmail dot com. Love hearing

(01:08):
from me all there as well, and Cat, you can
take it away with the questions. I guess before we
get to one of the questions, you have a quote
that goes along with it, because we always start the
Tuesday episodes off with a quote as well. So what
is the quote you're sharing with us today? Well, I'm
going to read the question first for it, okay. So
the question was what do you do in order to
not take things so personally or care what other people

(01:31):
are thinking about you? And I think that's a very
simple answer. And I heard this from my boss when
I started my first year of being a therapist. I
was complaining about something or processing something and she looked
at me and she said, Kat, what other people think
about you as none of your business. Move on And
that's stuck with me and that's so helpful. So that's

(01:52):
the quote that we're going to use. Amanda Elkin, I'll
give her some credit, although I don't know where this
quote actually came from. Well, I to have heard that quote,
and I think it is pretty powerful and you may
have to say it to yourself multiple times over and
over until it sinks in because I think a lot
of times, Um, this is what the kids say. I

(02:13):
don't know if my sister and I went over this
in last Thursday's episode we were talking about teen slang.
My pastor also said it a couple of times in
church today, and I was like, look at you, but
he has you know, a lot of kids. But when
something's like living rent free and you're living in your
head rent free, right, you're in I think I've been
saying that for years. Okay, well my pastor was saying

(02:37):
today something along the lines. He wasn't saying living rent free,
but like taking up real estate in your head without
paying similar. Yeah, so same kind of thing. I'm cool,
you are, Yes, we just validated. Is cool. So I
think that a lot of times what other people think
can take up a lot of space in our head.

(03:00):
It free, and it is very difficult to do that.
And it doesn't mean that you don't care, because I
actually am someone I care a lot about what people
think of me, and I probably overthink on that. And
I know I'm not alone in this. I know everybody.
Sometimes I don't get it when people are like say,
I don't care what other people think I'm like, but
I think everybody does I think that most people, I

(03:22):
would say people care somewhat about what people think about you.
So it's not so much about like learn how to
not care? Is that like it's I do care, but
it's just none of my business. Right. But it kind
of goes back to something a book even I've mentioned
here on the podcast before. The obstacle is the way
whereas like instead of taking whatever happened and looking at

(03:42):
it as this, you know you messed up or you
did something wrong, and then you know you were told
about it, and you're taking it personally, it's like, oh,
how can I grow from this? How can I improve
from this? It's not in the way it actually can
leading forging the way for you. The obstacle is the
way I haven't seen so many memes lately about like
emails and how they're being written in the same boss

(04:04):
that told me this years ago used to always send
emails that just said we would ask a question and
I'd like spend thirty minutes writing and making sure it
sounded correctly, and then she would send back an email
that literally just said sure right, And I would like,
if she's mad at me? Does she hate me? Was
my email it's like, no, I don't have to take
it personally. She's just actually answering my question and she's
busy person has nothing personal. Yes, because that could be

(04:28):
that's I didn't write a sample. I'll have to write
a story about it. Thank you for beautiful wrapping, putting
a bow on that one. Yes, I now we're going
to go to rapid fire. Okay, here we go. So
I'm just gonna ask you, and you're gonna give me
the first thing that don't you can't think about it
too much. Do both your kids live with you? Yes?
I have two adopted kids from Haiti, and yes they

(04:49):
both live with me. What is your word? Okay? Well
I had a word for which is water. So it's
probably why this person is asking that. And I don't
think I came up with a word for this year,
and I'm so sad. I did come up with an
intention of walking more alone with just me and nature.
No book, no podcast, no nothing being more intentional about that.
You know what you're doing? What too many words? So

(05:10):
we're doing rapid fire. So instead of making your answer short,
you're just talking belief. Okay, So short answer is I
actually don't have a word for this year, and I'm
sad about it because last year I loved that it
was water and I was drinking more water. But also
it was a metaphor for like being like water and

(05:31):
being more go with the flow and fluid, and I
think that was important because last year I had to
go with the flow and like a lot of things,
We're going to keep water as your word for this year. Sure, yeah,
now I'm water. I am I'm so fluid. I could
go with so many flows right now and it would
not cause me to jump in a pool of water
like it did last year, or that was the year
before was the pool, because it's like the beginning of

(05:56):
like I'm even reading Katie Kirk's book right now and
she's talking about are really hard. I think I maybe
mentioned this when I recorded with my sister last week,
but it really set with me. Like in life, sometimes
you think things are really bad, but then you have
no idea what the next thing is or what's to come.
Or when you jumped in the pool you thought it
was bad, it's the beginning. Yeah, I think that I thought, Okay,

(06:18):
this is bad, and then some other stuff happened. I'm like, well,
this is bad. Kid any worse than this, and then
things just like kept getting bad and I'm so then
you have to wonder, like is it me? But it wasn't.
Sometimes life just throws stuff at you. And another fabling
from Katie Kirk's book I'm gonna talk really fast through
this one is like we all have stuff. I know

(06:41):
I've talked about it on here, and that's why even
the podcast is shifted into more a therapeutic way. But
it won't always. But that's just what my life has
been a lot of in the last year. But there's
a chapter in Katie's book called the Worry Cup. That
chapter was super powerful. I finally got to the part
where her husband has been diagnosed with cancer and her
trying to get her daughters to understand that it's hard

(07:03):
but also that they're not alone. And she had someone
from a cancer organization go to her daughter's school and
lead an exercise with the kids where she had a
cup and every kid got a marble and they went
and dropped a marble in the cup and they said
something they were worrying about, and it ranged from I'm
worried about my dog or my sick grandma, and then
her for her daughter, it was my dad has cancer.

(07:25):
But it was just a very powerful moment with six
year old where they got to look around and all
their worries were filling up this cup, but they weren't
alone in what they were feeling, and it was okay
to feel those things. And again just to reiterate, why
even do this podcast. Whether we're having a fun episode
or more lighthearted or serious or whatever, not every episode

(07:47):
is going to be for every single person. But I
just want whatever people are going through to know that
they're not alone. And I have friends that are going
through really hard things right now. I have quite instances
that I know that are going through really difficult things.
I know stuff about people I don't even really know
that well, and I know they're going through hard things.
And I know a lot of you listening right now

(08:08):
you're going through really hard things. And that's why why
am I saying all this? Because you're telling us about
how you are water and you jump into the water.
So we're gonna what we're gonna do is we're gonna
practice something. Let's do it. We're gonna practice rapid fire.
I'm gonna ask you this question again, and you're gonna okay, okay, okay, okay,
but then we wouldn't have heard the story about the

(08:28):
World Cup we needed we actually needed this. Yeah. So,
but we're just gonna now that we know your answer,
we have all that great stuff because I think everything
you said was important. We're going to practice rapid fire
for real. Okay, what is your word for I don't

(08:53):
have one? Oh wait, it's water again? Okay, I didn't
to be honest, we just determined. Actually the reason yeah
you talked about all that, because what we've decided through
that is that your word is water. Do it again? Okay?
Are you ready ready? What is your word for water?
Is my word last year too, and it carried over. Okay, okay, okay, okay,

(09:18):
go say it one more time. I got it. It's
probably why honestly, this is no. This might be how
my therapist feels like my real life therapist about other
things where I just like, don't get it, you know,

(09:43):
this is yeah? Okay, okay, ready ready? What is your
word for water? Okay? Cool? Next question? Okay, next, Oh
that's great. What's your favorite piece of clothing in your wardrobe?
Right now? This is hard? Probably ugs because it's cold

(10:04):
and they're the little mini boot ugs and I just
love being able to wear those two work. And then
I have these Goldie jeans that are the ones with
the nothings cricket on them. What you're talking about, they
are the pinch waste. They're the nineties pinch waste is
what they're called. But I get questions about those if

(10:25):
I post like I did a shot forward photo shoot
a couple weeks ago, and I feel like there was
like several questions asking about the jeans, So I try
to pay attention to that so in case other people
may want to know. But a very similar pair that's
cheaper is the nineties high waisted from Abercrombie, and the
Abercrombie ones are cheaper than the Goldie, but a Goldie
is still cheaper than some of the other brands. It

(10:46):
just depends where you are. I get it. American Eagle
also has some dut high waisted jeans just hitting all
the price points here. What else is another form more thing? Okay, fine, well,
I guess since speaking of the photo shoot I did,
I'll do one of my favorite pieces as Mary's love
pink hoodie, so cute like you are loved on the back,
but then as a smiley face on the front, I'm

(11:06):
loving that. Great, that was great, that was You're getting
better at this. Okay, who is your dream guest I'm
assuming for this podcast? Well, now it's Donald Miller. I
want to get Robin Robert's back on, but she's already
been on Obama. I'm not going to get either one
of the dreams. Okay, if you could have anybody. Oh see,

(11:31):
I meant like a dream that maybe I possible. We'll
do dream possible, and then dream dream dream dream, Okay,
dream possible, especially since I'm reading Hero on a Mission
currently is Donald Miller, which probably possible, I think because
he lives in the area. Okay, And then like dream
dream that's probably not going to happen ever, Oprah or
Prince Harry, Prince Harry. Wow, I would have expected that.

(11:55):
Why I just have never heard you talk about him?
What do you love about Prince? Mean? It would be
like super interesting to talk to a prince. Also, I
am fascinating the fact that he decided to remove himself
from that life, and you know, he took leave and
cleave to the next level, like he got married, leave

(12:15):
and cleve and he did what was best for his
family and his mental health. And then leading to that
is like, I know that he's really huge on mental health,
being that I watched to sit down with Oprah, so
maybe I could just do both of them Oprah, Megan
and Harry. Oh. Katie Kuric talks about so you can

(12:38):
tell when I'm reading a book that I really like.
I referred to it a lot. But she was talking
about how she sat next to Princess Diana at a
dinner and she said that at the time it was
I think it was within a year or so before
her death, and that certain things that Princess die was saying,

(12:58):
Katie just had no idea at the time how miserable
she was. Like nobody did nobody in the world she
was going through I think her divorce, but nobody had
a clue just how bad it was. Anyway, Katie's books
called going There, Shout Out, Shout Up, Katie. I'd love
to have her on the podcast, ask okay, great, so

(13:22):
is that your dream guest dream possible? You can get her?
Maybe I could. And then I'd like to get mel Robbins.
I mean, the list goes on, but manifesting, putting, get out, there.
So those are all of your dream people. Okay, your
podcast seems to have made shifts in material and you
have a permanent guest host. Was this intentional? Yes, you
don't want to elaborate on that one. Okay, Okay, you

(13:45):
want to elaborate. That was really good. You did a
good job. Thank you, go next one. Okay, all right,
I'd love to hear about your new coffee maker and
more about your sister's coffee. That's not a question, it's
open ended, so it's really hard to prapid fire that way. Okay, Well,
what is your coffee maker that you posted about today?
You're listening to this on Tuesday, but recording on Sunday.
And I posted about my new Macha Master, which was

(14:05):
my Christmas gift to myself and Johnny Lasagna shout out.
He's a b Team member, which is like our Bobby
Bones show hardcore people. He has one and he's obsessed
with it. Anybody that I know that has a Macha
Master is obsessed with it, and it just brews really
amazing coffee. That said, it's a little bit of investment.
That's why it was my Christmas present to myself. And

(14:26):
I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I also a few years
ago that's my new coffee maker. I do make latte's
at home with espresso shots, and a few years ago
I got a Brevel espresso machine, and so that's what
I use for coffee there. And the coffee that I
use is my sisters from root House that's her coffee
shop in Colorado, and my favorite blend is called base

(14:48):
Camp Beautiful. Good job Roothouse code dot com shout out, sister.
Do you still incorporate the glowing green smoothies in your
daily diet? Not really, I just have fur to say,
but no, but that's not the only about to go
one way, and you change direction only because of time.

(15:12):
I don't take the time to make them anymore. I
get daily harvest pre made smoothies, and I add more
greens and stuff to those smoothies. So in a way,
I'm still having some of the components of Kimberly's Glowing
Green smoothie. But a lot that I did with her
wasn't her fault. My fault with like some disordered behavior
on my end when it came to eating. But I

(15:33):
still enjoy the Glowing Green smoothie it's just I haven't
taken the time to make it my shout out Daily Harvest.
Can I buy any four things? Slash Shop is squat
items local in Nashville Now everything is online the shot
forward dot com. Great job? Did you watch last season
of Narcos Mexico? Yes? Great job. I want to get

(15:55):
my ears double pier Suggestions on where to have it done?
A tattoo shop? Can I give one in Nashville? Yeah, okay,
there's a place. What's on a tattoo shop. It's actually
a piercing place called Dahlia in like Barry Hill area,
and it's awesome. They're so kind. You have to make
an appointment because covid it's a beautiful place. And also
a tattoo shop is a great place to go. Yeah,

(16:16):
I took away your rabid fire. Sorry? What is your
favorite squat item? Probably are four things? I'm fine, pull over,
I'm fine, it's fine. Everything is fine. Puzzle all puzzles
up there. I mean, I could also say the four
things about Issue Journal, or I could say the Bourn
year he did a great job. Star is in here

(16:37):
and she just started laughing when I said something about
I'm fine. It's fine, everything is fine. So what did
you What are you saying? You're not fine? But I
am fine? Am I more fine than I was? Is
the question? Yes? Okay, yeah, so nobody's fine. That's the
whole point of the shirt. It's ironic. But as long

(16:58):
as you're here to a that I'm better than I was? Okay,
all right, So this is the last question. Okay, what
is your biggest accomplishment? My kids? Would she say? What
did you say, Sira? Being a moment? Yes, we had
the same answer. How did you know? I would say
that because of the best what do you mean as

(17:20):
in you growing from not like letting us do a thing.
It would be very protective of how she's gotten better
at being like go with the flow. Yes, oh, you've
become a better and better moment. Oh, thank you Seshira. Well,
I feel like this is fun. We had Stevenson joined

(17:41):
us last week and then Stashia this week. So I
have a little podcast in my house here I record,
and my kids often come in and just sit here
and watch us, which is cool. But thank you Sashira
for joining us here in the end, and thank you
Cat for reading some of the questions we didn't even
get to all the ones I thought we would get
too today, probably because I didn't answer as quickly as

(18:02):
I thought I would. So we will do this again.
And if y'all need me to elaborate on any of
those ones where I was only allowed to say one thing,
so me an email. I hope you all have a
great rest of your day and Thursday's episode, I will
be having someone on from the Refuge Ranch, which is
an amazing organization based in Austin that provides support and

(18:24):
care for survivors of child trafficking and they are really
doing amazing things for kids that really really need it,
and I hope it's just an opportunity for you to
learn more about what they do. And that's just one
organization like this, I mean there's organizations all across the country,
so yeah, this is a real thing that happens right

(18:44):
here in America. And the Shop Forwards whole love line
is supporting them, so I thought it was important to
have them on, especially if you're doing any shopping for
Valentine's Day, you can know how you're giving back and
supporting a really cool group of people helping out kids
in a really special way. So that's it okay, Bye bye,
