to go ahead chat with the girlsvarsity head coach Cole Cook. I just
want to first start off by congratulatingyou on a great regular season. Then
a wonderful job turnaround from you theplayers thirteen and nine, six and two
in the conference. That's a hugestep forward from last year's eight and fifteen

season. Absolutely, yeah, they'scome a long way. It's it's been
it's been fun. You know,we get towards the end of the season
and it's been a little long.I think kids don't realize, you know,
what they've done. They just seethe end of the you know,
getting winding down towards the end ofthe season. They feel like it's been

super long, and so it's andwe've asked a lot of them, you
know, so a lot of themretired. You know, this is the
most games and arguably the hardest they'veplayed in a really long time, so
bodies aren't used to it, mindsaren't used to it. So we're we're
pretty excited, you know, aswe start to wind down, especially this

(03:52):
week, we've had a little bitof a break and they get to calm
down and see what it's like,and yeah, we're all pretty pretty happy
with our progress this year. Finishedthe regular season winning five of the last
seven. What gave you guys kindof that nice momentum push towards the end
of the regular season and just overarchinghow who've stepped up and kind of what

was the identity of this team thatchanged so drastically from last year? You
know, I think I think itwas just the confidence. You know,
we got a couple wins early thathelped out a ton, and then just
the positive nature that the kids dohave that was pretty big. We I

think just yeah, like I said, just the confidence that we can go
out and we can compete. Youknow, the our defense has been something
we can hang our hat on allyear long, and they've really committed to
that. And then to be ableto go out there and prove that against
you know, at the time andpreviously ranked fifteen team against the come one

and create turnovers and win a hardfought battle right there towards the end like
that was a that was a hugemomentum booster for our kids. And really,
honestly, Carson pan Conan has beenjust one of the bigger impact players
on this team. She was asecond leading scorer last year, and you

know, she had to do alot for us, and we all knew
that she was gonna, you know, improve a lot, but I think
she really really showed us this yearhow much she has improved, whether that
was shooting or ball handling or basketballi Q wise, we didn't. The
other thing that helped us out wasVictoria. I mean, man, the

Victoria Williams. You know, uh, the impact that she's brought has been
probably unmeasurable. You know, wehad to use Carson a lot last year
as a defender, which Carson's agreat defender. Victoria is also a great
defender, you know, So beingable to let Carson bring the ball up
and feel comfortable not having to youknow, play as hard on both ends

really really helped out Carson a lot. So I would say those two impact
wise this season have been phenomenal.And then just the senior leadership that Haley
Precaution has given us. I mean, she is next to no one when
it comes to positive attitude, energy, dedication, commitment, hustle, you

know, toughness. Man. She'sbeen a joy to coach these last two
years and we'll definitely miss her nextyear. You actually have a nice break
in between games you've had. Youhaven't played since last Saturday. How does
that feel after the craziness towards theend of the season, and how does

(06:55):
it help your team moving forward?Yeah, it's been good. You know,
being able to just even personally,you know, myself, being able
to go home and hang out withwith the family had been been a blessing
for sure. And but for thekids, you know, we gave them
Sunday off, we had a reallight practice on Monday. Uh, we
had a little bit lighter of apractice on Tuesday as well. Uh,

we were back into it yesterday.So I think that that chunk of time,
giving their bodies some rest and beingable to heal and just get their
mind off of basketball has been hasbeen good for them. So I think,
you know, within the next coupleof days, we'll we'll bring them
back in and make sure they're focusingready for Saturday, which will be uh,

(07:43):
you know, a tall order,someone who needed the time to rest
and actually came back and played againstMason City with Sophia Hatcher, who's been
a key role player coming off ofthe bench. Just what do you think
gave her the confidence to be ableto come off after that injury and be

(08:03):
able to put up some pretty goodnumbers against Mason City. And you know,
looking at the stats, she doesn'tcome off as a player who you
know, came off jittery or tooexcited, just fell right back into plays
as if she didn't even mess abeat. Yeah, that's been amazing.
I mean, she might arguably beone of the most improved players on our

team from last year to this year. And and you kind of hit it
right right on. I don't knowwhere it comes from, but she does
bring you know, when she getsout there, she settles our nerves.
Her nerves are settled, and shejust she goes out there and she competes
and she knows what she's supposed todo. And that's been that's been amazing.
You know. I think I thinkshe was off three weeks to a

month and that that was really reallyhard on us. She is, you
know, next to Haley Victoria.She's, i mean, one of our
biggest competitors. Like she just wantsto compete. She just wants to to
always give it her all. Andso her being hurt and Sideline was was
a struggle. But we had lotsof talks, you know, with her

personally, and she came back andshe just didn't miss the beat. You
know, she she was ready.She just knew that when I come back
and I'm going to be the sameperson. And she she stepped into a
role almost flawlessly. And Saturday MasonCity was a kind of a trial for
us, you know player as weneed her and see how she feels,

and she says she feels great,So I don't expect her to miss anything
on Saturday either. Another key roleplayer actually led you guys in points against
Mason City was Morgan Wall. Shehad seven. What is her importance this
Saturday going up against the Sioux CityEast team that is actually a pretty tall

(09:52):
team. Yeah they are, theyare Morgan's Morgan's been great. I mean
if you were to find her pointper minute, uh, they would be
astounding. She when she comes offthe bench, she's just effective. You
know, she I don't know ifif being on the bench, she's able

(10:13):
to see everything that happens and she'sbetter prepared for it. She goes in
and and she just performs well.So she's gonna be huge for us off
the bench, being able to matchup size wise, but also be able
to help shoot. You know,she's honestly not a bad a bad three

(10:33):
point shooter. She doesn't she doesn'tget a whole lot of them, but
she does. She does do wellat shot selection and which is something we
worked on from last year to thisyear, and and just being able to
stretch the floor out and give usa different look rather than always trying to,
you know, do our patented pickand roll. And she's able to
pop and shoot three. So that'sgoing to be big and obviously matching up

with with their size is also goingto be a big fact for us.
So we're pretty excited, you know, just to see what we can do
and Morgan, you know, she'sgoing to be a big factor for that
as well. What can you tellus about the Sioux City East team?
They've won nine of their last ten. You're getting them at home, a
really good team. What have youseen from them on film. Yeah,

there's no doubt. You know,they're ranked number ten in the state,
I believe with the final rankings fora reason. Size wise, I'm not
sure they have anybody that's shorter thanfive to nine. And then they got
three girls that shoot, you know, forty percent are over from the three
point lines. They got four girlsand averaging double digits and points. So

they just do a really good jobof maintaining their space, you know,
attack and kick to their shooters.They also got a couple ball handlers.
I mean Alexandra Flattery seniors. She'sa lefty, which is hard to guard.
She knows how to use her body. She can attack and kick,

but she can also post up,you know. And the other one is
Choshelle Miller. She's she you know, was heard at the beginning of the
year from what I understand, andshe's fast, you know, and she
has size and she knows how tohandle the basketball. So, you know,
pairing those two ball handlers with acouple of shooters, it's going to

be a we're going to have ourhands full for sure. That was the

look, just wasn't able to convertit. But now this gives us a

I think they just taught us commitmentto stick with it. We had
a difficult road to winning and nomatter what, like no matter the bad

guys? Next year? I thinksome of our underclassmen are bringing a lot

we knew that going into it,and uh, I thought we did a
really good job, you know,for about a quarter and a half.

Every time they get it, they'repushing it. We just got a little
gas, which is surprising, youknow, knowing that we usually press full

in the locker room. Just justthe growth from year to year, right
from last year to this year hasbeen, i mean just miles ahead of
what we we thought possible in thefirst two years. So yeah, I

super sad losing the seniors. Haleyprecaution and uh, he's been a

really big big one for us,you know, culture wise, Aby Maguire,
Morgan Wall, Sophia Timman's decided togo out. You know, all
four of those girls are our programchangers and they they they held with us
and they stuck it out, andyeah, so it's sad to leave them,
but super you know, super excitedfor next year. What did what
kind of impact did the seniors haveon this team specifically? You know,

we did a little thing yesterday duringfilm session and we had all the all
the kids, right, you know, what did the seniors teach them?
You know? Uh, and thenthe seniors you know, what do you
want to part off to the underclassmen, And almost every single one of them
was the biggest one I thought,I mean, I loved it was uh
Uh, that the seniors taught themwhat it's like to be on a caring

(01:41:01):
team where you know, where everyonecares about them, everyone loves them and
generally wants to see them succeed.But the other thing was just toughness,
you know, the biggest I mean, we preach it all the time.
Toughness. It's it's tough to diveon the floor, it's tough to take
charges, it's tough to box out, it's tough not to get upset when
you feel called didn't go your way. Right. Those are all tough things,

and I think we do a reallygood job of all those. So,
yeah, the seniors or program changers, that's for sure. But now
to kind of flip that question,what are you excited about with the underclassmen
coming up for next year? Yeah, I think the biggest thing was just
the dedication we saw over the lastyear from the underclassmen, which we just
weren't quite sure what we would get, specifically because some of the underclassmen their

first sports not basketball, you know, So it's Fia Timmerman's an amazing track
runner, right, Meredith Franzen isa great cross country runner, So we
just weren't sure what we would get. But they have just committed over the
last year and that's been awesome.So uh, I think that that commitment

in Italia Deerdorff as well, she'sa great track athlete. She also played
volleyball, and so it's uh,it's been really fun to see them commit
to basketball and and work really hard. And we're gonna see them, you
know, three four times a weekduring the summer. If we get a
chance to play some summer ball withthem, that would be great. But
uh, yeah, they're they're allin right now, and so I think

(01:42:28):
this is gonna be a really funuh freshman sophomore class to have. What
do teams have to worry about,you guys for next year? Yeah,
just the uh I think just thegeneral improvement, hopefully shooting free throws,
especially three pointers. But uh man, we're gonna be fast. We're gonna
be fast, and we're gonna betough. Uh. Our defense is gonna
be I'd hate to say that it'sgonna be better than this year, but

I do think that that's gonna youknow, that's gonna be it because,
uh, this defensive scheme we've hadis brand new this year, and we
played it this well. So Ithink next year, defensively, we're gonna
be faster, really tough, We'regonna be physical. So uh, I
