Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to another episode of I Tell you what, Dude,
this is getting just weird.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Such a bizarre situation.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
I sat on this yesterday and going, I'm just going
to wait a little bit. I just sat on the story,
going there's got to be something more to this. Things
are getting weird. In the story about Gene Hackman and
his wife Betsy, he's ninety five years old, was ninety
five years old, died well. They found him dead two
days ago, and his wife, Betsy's sixty three, and they
found their dog dead. Santa Fe detective said that Betsy
(00:27):
was found lying on her right side in the bathroom
with a black space heater next to her head, and police
think that the heater may have fallen off the counter,
possibly when she fell, that is, if she fell right.
And there's also an open prescription bottle on the countertop
with pills scattered around it. Don't really know what that means.
The disturbing part is her body was decomposed and showing
(00:49):
signs of mummification. They said the same thing about Gene
Heckman's body too, but maybe not to the extent of
her body. I don't know if there's something where one
body can decompose a little faster than the other. I
have no idea, but yesterday this was like it sounded like, oh,
they died probably days back, maybe who knows, weeks back,
of carbon monoxide poisoning, and everyone that's what I was
(01:11):
thinking yesterday, That's what everyone was thinking. That's what Gene
Hackman's daughter was thinking. It's like she even came out
and she said, her name is Elizabeth jan She speculated
the carbon monox said poisoning may have been the cause.
But then now it's kind of back open. It's not
like a case where they're really thinking. I guess they're thinking.
Now there's just a little more suspicion around it. The
(01:31):
door was a jar when they came in. The people
that work the property they hadn't seen them in weeks,
I guess. So now it's one great, big mystery. And
the New Mexico Gas Company and the fire department said
it's not they didn't die of carbon monoxide poison. It
wasn't any They didn't have any traces of carbon monox
said poison, at least when they went in there and
looked around.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
So, and then the autopsy came out and there's no
blunt force.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
It's just weird. It's such an odd situation because it
the signs sort of to them having passed away at
seemingly the same about the same time. But yeah, and
one of their dogs passed away too.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
But two of the dogs are still alive, and they said,
for lack of a better but one of them, so
one of the detectives or one others said they're they're alive,
healthy and thriving.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
So the odd thing in that two suation. Yeah, so
three dogs. Originally one dog passed away was in a
crate in the same room as Betsy, So the sad
thing is probably just couldn't get out of the crate,
whereas the other two dogs they had a dog door,
so they were able to get in and out, and
so when authorities got there, one dog was outside, one
dog was inside, but clearly they both were able to
(02:38):
get in and out of the house, and so you
can assume, I mean, they've just kind of been fine
on their own for however long this has been.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
But yesterday they said this is not a homicide investigation.
There's no threat to anybody. Everybody just kind of move on.
We've got this handled and we're gonna get this taken
care of. And then but everyone like you know me
and I watch too much line as there is, I'm like,
but this doesn't make sense. The two people dying at
the same time, and the dying, what's I mean? I
(03:06):
get that maybe there isn't like a threat to society
down there. So then that's where I was thinking. Carbon
Knox said poison but nobody said Carver. M Knox said poisoning.
But maybe they weren't supposed to. Maybe it wasn't confirmed
or anything. And then to come come to find out
today that they're the departments are saying, the fire department
and the the gas service in New Mexico is like, no,
there's no there was no carver of monoxide. So what
(03:28):
what happened? I mean, yeah, I'm the family, I'm going, oh, no,
what happened to my dad?
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Well? Do you want answers? You want closure? And there's
a thirty year age difference between these two people, so
you can assume.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
I don't know she's healthy as ours. Yeah she's here.
Was ninety five and by the way, did yoga every
day or a couple times a week and exercised a lot.
He was I guess you know, he wasn't in the
prime of his life, but he was a very healthy
ninety five year old.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Right, and so for them to just seemingly just try yeah, die,
I mean, it's just an odd, odd situation. As far
as like, I don't know, as you mentioned that, they
thought that maybe it looked like her body was further
along in that progression.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Of yeah, but I don't know, like sometimes do females
go faster than I don't know how that works.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
I think the conditions of the atmosphere or whatever area
that they're in.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
She was in the bathroom, he was somewhere else.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
She was in the bathroom, and if there was a
space heater right by her. I don't mean to be morbid,
but was it on though? I don't know, but maybe,
but who knows, different rooms. Maybe he was in a
more wide open space with better airflow. You don't know.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
So yesterday I said on it, it's like we talked about.
I mean, it's there, here's the story, and it's kind
of just left it at that, and they say it's
not don't look into it any further. There's nothing really
to be frightened about. Everybody down around where they live
should be okay, But now today it's like, Okay, that
word cover monoxide poisoning isn't in there, so what's it?
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:47):
The first thing I thought yesterday when I opened it
up on my phone, I was like, Oh, that's their furnace.
It's got to be the furnace. Two people die, it's
got to be the furnace. She's in one room, he's
in another. Dog died. But then you hear the two
dogs where still other two dogs were alive, And then
you'd go on, Okay, what's the real deal here?
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah? I don't know, man, It's just odd and it
makes you kind of worried because you want to learn
more about it, and my heart goes out to their families.
But then on a personal level, it's like you kind
of want to find out when things like this happened
because you don't want it to happen to you, And
so what is this random thing that happens in a house.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
And they're way down south and you don't even think
that heat's a big deal down there. I mean, they
do use the furnace. People have furnaces in Florida, Yeah,
but they're down in what New Mexico. Wherever they are,
Santa Fe. Yeah, and it's probably there's a space lead
there which tells you that it wasn't warm enough.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
That's true.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
It's it's just weird.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
It's just weird. My heart really does go out to
their families, but just a bizarre situation.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
And Gene has just seemed happy in his retirement. And yeah,
you know, he wasn't an actor that was trying to act,
and he was just kind of, you know, going doing
his thing. And he was known for the Superman movies
and he's got Academy Awards and all that kind of stuff.
And to go that way after ninety five years.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Oh, Unfortunately, it takes weeks to get a cause of
death autopsy done, to run all these different tests that
they got to do, so we won't get answers for
a while.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
But they say no blunt trauma, no blunt force trauma.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Yeah. Well, I hope that their families are able to
get closer.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Amen to that. Thank you for listening to this episode. Up,
