Sinds zijn vrijlating is er niets meer van Jacob Luitjens vernomen. Niet of hij ooit terug kon keren naar zijn vrouw en kinderen in Canada. Niet of hij ooit afstand nam van het nazisme. Hoe liep het af met de oud-NSB'er? Hoe zou hij nu zelf op zijn verleden terugkijken, tenminste - als hij met 102 jaar oud inderdaad nog steeds leeft? Het is tijd om naar hem op zoek te gaan. 1992. In Nederland wacht een kille gevangeniscel op de inmiddels 73-jarige Jacob Luitjens. Houdt de bejaarde oud-NSB'er zich daar staande? En, als we uitzoomen, als we nu, haast tachtig jaar na de oorlog, alle feiten opnieuw onder de loep nemen, hoe terecht is deze straf dan? Jacob staat bekend als De Schrik van Roden. Maar bestond die bijnaam überhaupt tijdens de oorlog? Is Jacob wel de grote, beruchte oorlogsmisdadiger zoals...
1983. Jacob Luitjens is ontmaskerd. In zijn nieuwe thuisland Canada rijzen steeds meer vragen op over het verleden van de vriendelijke labinstructeur. De media dringen zich aan hem op. En daar blijft het niet bij: in stilte bereidt de Canadese justitie een enorme rechtszaak tegen de oud-NSB'er voor. Luitjens dreigt het land uitgezet te worden. Maar dat laat hij niet zonder slag of stoot gebeuren - en zijn christelijke geloofsbroede...
1950. Na zijn ontsnapping uit Kamp Westerbork is Jacob Luitjens spoorloos verdwenen. In Nederland wacht hem een levenslange gevangenisstraf. Een straf zo zwaar dat je kan vluchten wat je wilt, maar justitie zal je nooit vergeten. Waar verstopt Jacob Luitjens zich? In een religieuze kolonie in Paraguay? In een wereldstad in Canada?
