Asian Girl Talk is a podcast about navigating the cultural nuances of Asian Australian identity to find our individual paths to womanhood. By sharing our experiences with dating, family, and sexuality, we hope to create a space to explore, empower, and embrace what makes us ourselves.
In this episode, we simply catch up on what's been happening in our sex lives from new toys, to falling pregnant... and you guessed it, pregnancy sex! We don't spare any details so tuck yourself in for a cheeky one!
So we've talked about masturbation... but what do we masturbate to? Everyone experiences sexual arousal and desire differently, often turning to some form of pornography to satisfy those needs. How then are we, viewing (or reading) as Asian women, satisfy ourselves through an industry that's largely built for the Western male gaze?
We've been brought up to believe that being agreeable is what makes us great daughters. Speaking up can be taken as "talking back" which, of course, is regarded as the utmost disrespect for our parents. BIG NO NO! Let's talk about how this manifests in the bedroom where we want to put our pleasure needs first, and break free of this perceived submission.
The book we mention in this episode is Come As Your Are by Emily Nagoski
As young Asian women who didn't quite know how to navigate this step into our sexual journey, we recall our very first experience of penetrative sex and how we felt about it. Although we now know that "virginity" is a construct, the very first time has left a different impact on each of us nonetheless. How much has this affected our outlook on dating, sex, and boundaries?
We learn to walk before we learn to run but what is the equivalent for dating? In this episode, we fumble through some of our earliest dating escapades at a time when we were no longer girls, but not yet women... and boy, how far we've come!
Deep down, we know that our parents' tough love comes from a place of care, even though it feels much the opposite. Let's dive into how this love language has affected our interpersonal relationships, and what their advice and expectations are for us, as Asian women, when it comes to dating - when we were finally allowed to of course! Do we take their advice though?
THE BIG O - Long heralded as the ultimate enigma women are constantly trying to figure out. With everything we do (or don't) see, read, or hear about orgasms, how much do we actually know? Listen as we try to dissect such a complex subject and how we've come to understand what orgasm means to us as complex individuals.
Let's be honest, almost all of us have done it at some point in our lives but when did it all start? Well, we're kicking off this podcast by going back to where it all began! Join us as we share our earliest memories of masturbation and how those experiences eventually shaped our attitudes towards pleasure in adulthood.
Before you climb under the sheets with us and get too comfortable, here is just a brief introduction of ourselves and why we wanted to make this podcast. Although we are telling our own stories, Asian Girl Talk is ultimately about the shared experience of Asian Australian women, and creating a safe space to openly talk about these nuanced topics.
