Burning the Thrushes

In 2019, 6 months before the covid pandemic, I spent a month in Iceland collecting field recordings and making music. The arctic tern, known as kria in Icelandic, figures prominently in what I created (and is an integral part of the Icelandic ecosystem). But watch out around nesting season, because the terns will defend their eggs with their lives. 

In this episode, I visit a camper van nestled in the woods and think big thoughts about sound vs. noise, mindful listening, and making the most of the world of sound in which we live. 

In this episode, made in Finland during the Nordic winter, I leave aside field recordings and soundscapes for some words and music. 

Burning the Thrushes is back!

If you've ever wondered about the title of this podcast, this episode is for you. In it, I tell the story of how the thrushes came to be burned. Featuring the eponymous composition created in Finland after the experience that led to its title.
