(00:00):
Thanks for checking out my eighty showpodcast. And by the way, I've
got almost one hundred episodes of theold podcast here, so go back and
check out some of the ones youmay have missed over the last couple of
years. But this week I getto talk to the front man for RAT.
It's Steven Piercy. Jeff, howare you, brother, I'm really
good man. I love that you'rebringing nineteen eighty four to our town.
What a great slogan, what agreat slug I love it. Ah,

(00:24):
yeah right, I mean it's notlike we haven't been there a million times
since nineteen eighty four, but youknow, except this time, forty years
later, I'm playing out of theseller record its entirety, and a lot
of other songs after we smack youaround with the record. But it's real
refreshing, it's exciting, and hey, you know what, get it while

(00:44):
it's hot, you know, absolutelywell, Steven. First of all,
I had a really good friend ofmine in high school and I graduated in
eighty five, so you know,RAT was just you know, was our
band. But his name is JeffMiller. And I'm telling you what,
every basketball game, every every eventthat we went to we were cranking Rat
out of his car every time.Rat and Roll Baby, Rat and Roll.

(01:10):
Absolutely can. First of all,Stephen, can you even believe truly
that it's been forty years already?I mean, how's that possible? Well,
I, you know, I kindof step back and you know,
think about it. It is crazy. You know, I wish Robin were
around, you know, was around, because you know, when Robin and

(01:30):
I put the band together, youknow, we didn't think this would be
going down. But you know, forty years later, and the fact that
I'm still here forty years later togive you the record, you know,
live, it's never been done. It's quite incredible. Yeah, it's a

(01:51):
trip. That's pretty awesome. It'sthe twenty twenty four Back in the Cellar
tour and you're going to be goingall around and I love that. I
mean, folks need to just literallygo to your website, tour dates,
tickets, the VIP meet and repasses, everything on Stephnpiercy dot com. Right,
Yeah, Official Stephnpiercer dot com.Yeah. You know, so many
great songs and you just kept churningthem out through the eighties. It had

(02:14):
to feel like just a blur.I would imagine from pretty much eighty three
eighty four right through the end ofthe decade. Well, to be honest
with you, and this is noyou know, and I did my last
book. I had to call upthe people who worked for me, my
old concierg, security and people, because I don't to this day remember so
much of that eighties that was likebesides having a great time, you know

(02:38):
what I'm saying, You know,it is a blur, and I don't
remember much of it, but someof the bigger highlights, like you know,
Madison Square Garden or hometown this andthat. But I mean it is
a blur, to be honest withyou. We were moving so fast,
yeah, that we hit the groundrunning, you know. Yeah yeah,
And it seemed like you guys werealways too so you know, album tour,

(03:01):
album tour, And I talked toso many bands, especially from the
eighties, which was truly the heydayof music and still is in so many
other decades do not hold up eventen years later, let alone forty.
So I think the eighties are sounique in that way. But you guys
were in there, man, playingwith all these other great bands and just

(03:23):
constant albums and tours. Yeah.I try to make that, you know,
clear, and that's why we've createdthe Sunset Strip Experience. You know,
there's a documentary coming out which isreally cool that I was involved with,
and that's coming out about that wholescene. Nothing but a good time.
Yeah, but we've created this thing, Sunset Strip Experience, because people

(03:44):
don't understand that a lot of thesebands and Poison included, and I'll tell
you what note this, but youknow, I'd see poison at the clubs
and I knew there were something wasgoing to happen with these guys. And
besides Brett begging me to get on, you know, in a show,
because we became friends back then, and you know, as they were starting
out, I'd go out tripping aroundthe clubs and seeing what the scene was,

(04:09):
and you know, they were oneof the things we bumped and do.
We would look for opening acts, you know. Yeah. But yeah,
people have to understand there's the realdeal and we'll call it. You
know, half midway through the eighties, you know, like eighty five,
eighty six, and then there wasa migration like from all over the world
and those people, sorry kids, weren't part of the hardcore unset strip experience.

(04:32):
You know, the real guys werelike, you know, Rat Motley,
Quiet Riot into to Brow back inthe Quiet Riot, and it was
you know, Dante Fox was literallyGreat White Striper, was called Rocks Regime.
These are the real forerunners of thatscene. And the other guys i'll

(04:55):
say were responsible for the oversaturation andwhat was now is now labeled hair metal,
which I embraced because the many yousay that, you're going to think
of these eighties grips, Rat Mollyand stuff. So I love it,
you know, I don't downplay it. And when it first started happening,
you know, we got to labelthis shit. You know, these gurly
bands whatever. We weren't a partof that scene. But you know what,

(05:17):
I'll take it. It doesn't botherme because forty years later we're still
kicking. Yeah. You know, well, and that's such a great way
to say it. It's true becauselabel or not, there were so many
great bands that came out of that, especially that eighty four eighty five.
Yeah, and you guys were rightat the forefront of that. And I'm
really interested to see nothing but agood time the uncensored story of eighties hair

(05:41):
metal. It's coming out later thisyear. Is that correct? Correct?
And we also have a surprise onthis fortieth year anniversary. We did our
last box set, first box setlast year, which was great, and
I want there was a single inthere. Here we go, there's another
box that coming out on the heelsof the fortieth year anniversary of Out of

(06:03):
the Cellar. And I found asong that we recorded for Out of the
Cellar that never made the record, but it's really good and I found it
and it's going in the new boxset as a single and talk about going
back to the eighties. Oh mygod. It ticks ass and something to

(06:24):
look forward to, you know, while it's while we're celebrating the fortieth year
anniversary. Yeah, So when whencan we look for that to be out
because I mean, because that's obviouslysomething that was cut from that eighty four
album that it's gonna it's gonna blowthe rat fans' brains out here. Man,
this is awesome. Oh unbelievable.I got to tell you, when
you hear it, you're gonna it'sso cool. I had my bass player

(06:46):
remix it. I go. Iasked them, BMG, if you can
find it, you know, hitAtlantic up. Get into their vaults and
grab this song, and they did. We found they found it, and
I knew we recorded it. Iwant on the other box set, but
thank god I didn't, because nowit's literally a song from nineteen eighty four,
forty years later. Oh man,And is that coming this year too?

(07:10):
It's coming this year. Yes,yes, I'm very excited about it.
You know, this box set nextto one's going to be crazy just
because of this single. It's goingto blow. People can't wait. Man,
I'm pumped now. I can't wait. I can't wait. Well,
so much to look forward to onthis fortieth anniversary tour. I know we've
got just a little a minute ortwo here. I did want to mention

(07:31):
the the Geico commercial, which whichjust made me laugh as a fan of
you guys. I mean, whenthey came to you, what did you
say? Ps? Of course? And then I and you know, after
that, I did a Zambooney commercialyou know those things that clean the ice.
Oh yeah, yeah, I dida commercial. Yeah, I did

(07:51):
a commercial four dollars center on oneof those things. It's crazy. But
yeah, the Guy Coo commercial wascrazy. Do you know there's three skits
for that guy called commercial. Yougot to look them up. It's not
that main one. There's two otherones. Oh I didn't know that.
Okay, so that's probably on YouTubeor something. Yeah, you can get
or you can go to my sideand it's probably up there. Yeah,
okay, Yeah, official Stephen Pearcydot com. Uh man. We could

(08:16):
talk forever. And I've got severalof your songs on my like my running
playlist, like my ultimate playlist. And I loved nineteen eighty nine's I Want
a Woman. I thought that wasan excellent song that you guys did too,
so right right from right from theyou know, early mid eighties to
the very end of the eighties.Yeah, and it's really refreshing. I
got to tell you playing the recordtop to bottom, you know, round

(08:39):
and Round was third. Sorry, kids, I'm doing the record straight up
and then well i'll give you theother hits after that, we'll lay it
down. We'll give you anything else. But playing songs I've seen in the
crime, which the band really neverdid live, is it's really refreshing.
It's an exciting thing to do.And unfortunately the the OG guys never really

(09:01):
we never really tried to take iton, but I did and it's it's
we're having a great time out there. Well that's cool, Stephen, because
you know, when when an albumwould be released back in the eighties,
you know, especially like with youguys having so many hits, you couldn't
play every song from every album,so it just it was impossible. So
Rat fans are going to be goingnuts to be able to hear it from

(09:22):
start to finish. Yep, topto bottom. And I flipped you over
for side too, and then youknow after that, after the record,
well we're gonna lay it down.We have a good time. I love
it, man, so great totalk to you. I gotta let your
roll. But twenty twenty four, back in the Cellar tour, Bring in
nineteen eighty forty your town, StevenPiercy. Great chatting with you man,

(09:43):
Thank you, brother. I appreciateit so much. Thank you,
