Here in Season 1, we’re taking a Journey through the Old Testament. In the ancient world, the making of covenant was publicly affirmed with a ritual act. In God’s covenant with Abraham, God institutes the ritual of circumcision as that sign. In this episode, Bryan examines the significance of circumcision in light of Abraham’s bigger story.
The ancient practice of a covenant is at the very heart of the Old Testament – and New -- as the name suggests. “Testament” is another word for “covenant.” In this episode, Bryan explores the ancient suzerain-vassal covenant treat and how it appears in God’s dealings with Abraham.
The Bible calls Abraham a hero of the faith. But he also blew it pretty bad at times as he tried to make things happen his own way. In episode 13, Bryan looks at how these stories emphasize the faithfulness of God to keep his promises no matter what.
God’s plan begins with a middle-aged couple unable to have children and yet God promised to turn them into a great nation! In this episode, Bryan continues the overview of Abraham’s story, the Genesis narrative, and looks more closely at God’s promise of a child.
In our Journey through the Old Testament, Act 3 begins with Abraham and his family and focuses on the nation of Israel. This is the rest of the Old Testament. In this episode, Bryan gives some background about Abraham, where he came from, and his world-changing encounter with a unfamiliar God.

Here in Season 1, we’re taking a Journey through the Old Testament. Like a virus, the consequence of sin in the Garden quickly jumped from generation to generation. In the conclusion to Act 2, the Fall, Bryan looks at God’s fourth question, the spreading of sin into a global calamity…and, best of all, God’s promise to cure it.

In this season, we’re taking a Journey through the Old Testament. In the Bible’s big story, Act 2 is humanity’s rebellion against God and his kingdom. What are we to make of the sneaky serpent and that tempting fruit in Genesis chapter 3? What does all this say about what sin is? In this episode, we tackle those questions, but a much simpler question stands behind it all, one we still must ask today.
Here in Season 1, we’re taking a Journey through the Old Testament. Act 1 of the Bible’s big story is the creation of God’s kingdom and his rule over that good world he made. In this episode, Bryan explores the idea of a kingdom and gives a simple but powerful picture of it across the whole Bible. Any kingdom has 3 things, all of which are present in Eden…and renewed at the end of the Bible. These 3 elements give us a picture we ca...

What’s going on there? In this episode, Bryan talks the fourth essential purpose for mankind’s creation found in the meaning of the Trees of Life and the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Here in Season 1, we’re taking a Journey through the Old Testament. What exactly is happening in the creation story in Genesis chapter 1? And why is it important to the Bible’s big story? In this episode, Bryan shares 4 common ways of explaining these 7 days of creation, some issues with each of these, and what the main focus of this narrative is going to be. This is the first of 3 parts looking at Act 1: Creation of the Bible's Bi...
Here in Season 1, we’re taking a Journey through the Old Testament. We often talk about the Bible as a story or the “Bible’s big story.” But what is the significance of thinking about the Old Testament and the Bible itself in this way? In this episode, Bryan explores the idea of the Bible as story and myth, a grand narrative that explains how the world works and why it is the way it is. But, as C.S. Lewis so famously said, the Bibl...
