A driver traveling alone near Kingman spots what appears to be someone walking in the desert with a light. He slows to help...but when he gets close, the light disappears.

Out of the corner of his eye, he sees what appears to be a dark mist halfway up the stairs. When he looks directly at it, nothing is there. Moments later, he experiences a sudden chill and a clear internal sense that he should leave the area and go to bed.
No voice. No threat. No further incidents.
The experience lasts on...
While reviewing unrelated tenant complaints, Charles notices the same apartment address appearing repeatedly.
Each tenant reports the sound of heavy furniture being dragged late at night despite the unit being unfurnished. Police welfare checks find nothing. Every tenant leaves within weeks. None stay longer than six months.

A woman contacts Charles after reading an article that referenced his work with unresolved cases.
Her brother disappeared weeks earlier. Then his phone left a voicemail. The message contains no words...only ambient noise and steady breathing. The signal traces to an area with no cellular coverage. The phone was never recovered.
