(00:00):
I'm gonna ask you. I justjust get through watching your your latest video.
How did they get the rock inyou? Do you know the rock
personally? That's such a cool video. Oh yeah, very well, and
uh, thank you very much.You know, it's it's it's it's been
really cool to see that take off. And uh, how did I do
it? I just asked. Itwas kind of kind of wild. But
I've always been a firm believer thatyou had to dream big to win big.

(00:22):
And I've always also been a firmbeliever that what was the worst that
could happen in any situation that somebodyyou know that that just that it doesn't
go your way, no big deal. You know, where one door closes,
another one opens. And uh,in regard to Dwayne and getting him
in the video, I just asked, I mean, I literally just said,
you know, you're what you seeis what you get kind of guy.

(00:45):
We're friends, we've been looking fora reason to do something together musically,
and and we have more to come, but but for you know,
to to kind of get it going, would you like to be in the
video? And he said absolutely,So we aligned our schedules and uh and
made it happened. Looks like youguys had a lot of fun making the
video. I mean, what isit we have truck just having fun.
I mean, it wasn't real workthat day at all, was it,

(01:07):
Chris? No, it wasn't.Then that was and you know, and
ironically that was a work day foreach of us. I had a show
and we met uh and so wefilmed our parts outside of Dallas over Mesquite,
Texas. He had a wrestling matchthat night, and then I had
a show in Oklahoma. So weflew down and met kind of in the

(01:29):
middle before each of our work days. And it was pretty awesome. I
mean, we took we took whatwas supposed to be an hour. We
shot for a little over two hours, and we got it done and we
had a great video to have atthe end. What a fun video.
We're talking with Chris Jansen right now. You are a Grand Ole Opry member.
And yes, everybody talks about howthey're surprised when they're asked to join

(01:51):
the Grand Ole Opry. Who whoasked you to join the Grand Ole Opry?
When did it happen? And wasa surprise? It was a total
surprise. I had no clue Uh, Keith Urban was the one who invited
me. Wow, And uh,yeah, I was. I was doing
a headlining concert at the Rhymin Auditoriumin Nashville, ironically the you know,
one of the original homes the GrandellOpry. But I was doing a concert.

(02:14):
I'd invited Keith out to be aspecial guest, which was cool,
and you know, people were pumpedto see him. And and I'd invited
him, you know, weeks priorto that, so in the in that
timeframe, I guess, you know, he had gotten with the Opry and
and uh and they had made thedecision to offer me a membership. So

(02:35):
it was cool. When he walkedout, we played a couple of songs
and then boom he hit me withit. Oh what was your reaction?
Oh man, it was it wasover the moon. I mean, my
wife and I we were both surprised. And it's hard to keep a seekert
from us, you know. Souh, she ran out there and and
and screamed praise God. And Iwas saying the same thing, and it
was it was pretty emotional. Iwas crying. It was. It was.

(02:59):
It was a great way to finishout a night. You know,
I had several songs to go beforethe show was over, and it was
a great way to finish it out. Oh man, how how could you
work after that just knowing that youwere going to be a member of the
grand Otty? You really can't,You really can't. So you know,
but everything's icing on the cake atthat point. Yeah, grand oll I
remember Chris Jansen again in town HotspotThursday night. It's gonna be a whole

(03:22):
lot of fun. Chris, Whatis it? What kind of advice can
you give somebody who really wants tobreak in the business, because it's a
tough business. Any any words ofadvice? Yeah, honest that I give
the truth now. So it's justsometimes can hurt. Only do it,
if you only do it, ifyou know you want to do it.
I mean really not. It's notjust it's not just a hobby. It's

(03:45):
it's a way of life in somany respects and so, uh, you
know, I always I always afirm believe this is in my own life.
Let me say this. I'm afirm believer in being a realist.
And people usually know when they're goodat something or they're not good at something,
right, I mean, people really, humans have that instinct naturally,

(04:09):
that's a god given thing. Ihappen to be one of the people who
believe that a lot of people fightthat they fight that naturally instinct, and
they a lot of times try todo things that they're just not maybe cut
out to do. Myself included bythe way I had to find my way
in my early days. But musicwas always for me personally. It's not

(04:30):
for everybody, It's for some andthat's that's the best advice I would ever
give anybody, because man, failureis not fun at anything, right,
So if you're if you know you'regreat at something, if you if you
really are, then do it.If you know you're not, and you
internally in your gut know I don'tknow, maybe I'll just whatever trues,

(04:50):
man, Just do something else.Find the things in life that you're that
you love, that you're passionate about, and that you know you you you
can succeed at and it's just funor in the long game. I mean,
I don't care what you're doing.I mean, you know, if
you tried to put a hammer inmy hand today and say build me a

(05:10):
house, now, I could probablybuild a house. But it's definitely not
going to be It's definitely not goingto look good or be ergonomically sound.
I can promise you that, youknow, you might go to sleep in
a few nights, but you know, a snake from me able to crawl
through the crack kind of thing. So building is probably not my forte.
You know what I'm saying. Iwas, I was. I feel like
I was born to do music. It's just a part of my lifeblood and

(05:34):
I don't know that I could doanything else and make a living the way
that I do with music, especiallyat this level. You know, it's
You're right, it is really tough. So I would just say that only
do it if you if you ifyou really in your heart believe that it's
something that you want to do for, you know, for a lifetime.

(05:55):
I've asked a lot of people thatquestion. That's the most honest answer that
I have ever wrote. It's theman I'm so sick of. I'm honestly
so sick, and I think thepublic is too. I think fans are
catching on to it too. Youknow, we live in a social media
world where so many people just think, oh, I can get a phone
and I can be I can dothis, okay? Cool? Can you

(06:15):
though, because there's people there's peopleof like minded this with me and many
many, many many others who man, this is what we do, This
is our lifeblood, this is whatwe do, you know, So I
don't. I just believe in stayingin your own lane and doing things that
you really truly believe in, notjust doing it for the moment, not

(06:36):
just doing it for two seconds ofgratitude and fame. You know, do
it if if it's life blood. So thank you for saying that. Yeah,
well, I can tell you thatyou enjoy your work. You can
tell that you're having fun on stage. You don't, yeh, you know,
phone in your performances at all?No, Yeah, no, My
concerts are not set list oriented.I don't have a set list. I

(06:59):
don't do a whole lot of smokeand mirrors and lights and things like that.
It's pretty much just like the songsays, what you see is what
you get. I mean, Iwould, I would definitely. It's looked
up to guys like Merle Haggard,Hank Williams Junior, you know, the
real deal kind of guys. Georgestraight, real deal U being a Texas

(07:21):
guy of course, you know, man, if if you're good enough,
it's something you don't have to havea whole bunch to pat it right.
And and I've always been a firmbeliever in that. And you know what,
you got to believe in yourself first, or nobody else will. And
my concerts, I believe my concertsare great for that reason. And they're
fun for that reason. And uh, and also you never know what you're

(07:43):
gonna get. I could tell youthis though, you can have a great
time, a positive time, anduh, you know it's very patriotic.
We just you know, we loveour country, we love people, and
we love playing hits for people.Yeah, go ahead and experience it.
Of course, check them out becauseyou're going to see Chris Jansen tomorrow night
at the Hotspot. And there's nothinglike a Chris Jansen show. First time
I saw you was that I guessit was Steb's barbecue and this has to

(08:07):
be back, yeah, a longtime ago, and and your performance just
knocked us out that night, andwell, thank you man. Yeah,
I was I was still a Iwas not a new artist. Ironically,
Well you were a newcomer and nobodyreally you didn't know what to expect you
know, yeah, yeah, anduh, but I appreciate you saying that

(08:30):
very much. It was hey, man, you know it's uh, you
got to have those early on steppingstones to get to where you're going.
And uh, you know, Ijust feel blessed to It's it's hard to
have a hit. So if youget one, that's great. If you
get multiple, that's just that's justpure blessings, and so I feel really
blessed to have them. Hey,looking forward to seeing you, man,

(08:50):
It's gonna be a great show.Well, thanks man, I appreciate it
and looking forward to seeing you tooand all the fans. It's gonna be
great. Tickets have been going reallygood. There's a few left, but
not many, and it'll be agreat show. I encourage people to get
those and I promise you we'll havea great time in the name of fun
and freedom. Man, it'll beawesome. It will be fun. Chris
chans on the line, We'll seeyou at the show.
