Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to community viewpoints as Shawnee feeling blessed and highly
favorite on this Sunday morning highlighting Women History Month, the
amazing women in.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Our community and at iHeart.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Today I have the pleasure of interviewing our marketing promotions director,
Jean Marie Kirch.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
And I know, Jeane, you haven't now the last name.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
My maiden name is Podbilski, and that's probably how some
people will see on my email, but it is a
pod Bilski Kerch. So I've recently married out of a
year or so.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yes, and congratulations. Community.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Just wanted to bring Jean to the MIC and have
her just share what we do and how we interact
with the community. But as a wonderful woman in the
community and understanding the need. So, Gene, if you would
tell us a little something about yourself.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Are you from Jacksonville?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I grew up in Saint Augustine and I was originally
born in New York up in Saint Augustine, and I
moved to South Florida for college and internship there and
then move back up to jackson had to be back
up here.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
And you say you were born in New York.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
City in Long Island, Yes.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
And where are your parents from?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
My dad was born in Poland. He immigrated to Brooklyn
when he is around six years old, and my mom
was born in Brooklyn.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Community, Shawnee. Speaking to Jean Marie.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
She is the promotions marketing director here at iHeart understanding
that we are a culture based society and staff Gean
talk to us and tell us being the promotions director,
what is the most challenging part.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Of the job.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
The most challenging part of the job is just maybe
keeping up with everything because everything's moving so quickly. But
you've got to build a strong team around you and
have faith in your own self as well to make
sure you put in our case, our radio station brands
out in front of the community, as you said, in
(02:01):
front of everybody, to make sure we're still in touch
and still helping assisting. You know, a big part of
radio is of course, you know, when it's hurricane season,
we're trying to get the word out, trying to help there.
So really just keeping up with the times and trying
to make sure where staying up to date with everything
that's happening around town. And there's so much happening around
(02:23):
Jacksonville and the first coast area. Other than that, it
might be a little challenging, but it's fun for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
We live in a fun society, understanding that marketing and
ensuring that we address all communities in our sector. What
is the most amazing part of and I'm thinking of
a Sister Strut when we all get together and rally
behind a goal. What was is one of the most
(02:51):
amazing events that we've put together. And I know Sister
Strutt is up there with you, but you are involved
with all of the stations, all of our seven stations.
What is the most memorable event that really resonated.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
With you well, Sisters Thread is, like you said, definitely
up there. I mean everybody coming together and celebrating those
currently struggling with breast cancer, but those have also passed
and it's really just the perfect example of everyone supporting
each other, Sisters Thread, definitely is that we also pair
(03:27):
up with Nines for Warriors, all our station brands do,
and that's just a very unique and interesting organization in
the sense that they rescue dogs and then they train
those dogs to become a nervous animal for our veterans,
so it's saving two lives at the same time. Definitely
(03:50):
something that we are part of here at iHeartMedia that
impacts a lot of people. And of course you have
the Saint Dude Children's Research Hospital. We do the radius
on on all our stations as well. And many people think, well,
that hospital is in menshis why are you doing that? Well,
the truth is everything that they learn at the Saint
(04:11):
two Children's Research Hospital they share with the hospitals here
in our area here in Jacksonville, and we have many
I promise you don't know it, but we do. We
have many Saint Jude families that actually live here and
listen to our radio stations on daily basis. So those
are probably my three top events. I know events. I
know you asked for one, but those are probably the
(04:31):
three best that we do at iHeartMedia. For sure.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
You mean d Shawnee speaking to Jean Marie here as
our promotions marketing director highlighting women history months understanding the
fear strong women in the community and in our studios. Gene,
I know that you wear many hats, so being an
on air personality is one of your hats, and I
know that with being on air personality, what do you enjoy?
(05:00):
How do you interact with the community while you're on.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Air, well, I'm on air well, really just letting them
know about where we're going to be and how we're
involved in all different types of events and charity walks
and runs and everything we're involved with. There's so many
different categories. Being on site making appearances is probably my
favorite part about being an on air personality because you
(05:25):
get to meet the listeners, you get to share your stories.
A good example is we also are involved with the
Out of Darkness walkeets the American Foundation for Suice Prevention,
and to be able to hear people's stories and how
they might have struggled and how they got out of that,
but actually talking to them face to face instead of
(05:45):
over a microphone is actually my favorite part of being
an on air personality here at Ihard Media Community.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Shawnie speaking to Jean Marie highlighting Women History Month, understanding
that you wear many hats when you are involved in
a company that is culture based and wants to share
every aspect of the story. Gene, I know that growth
is something that you have done, been you've been with
this company. What would you say to someone listening right
(06:16):
now who would like to get into radio, get into promotions.
What is one thing that has helped you along the way.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Understanding that it is going to take hard work and
it won't happen overnight. You know, I got into this
business the when I was nineteen as an intern. And
you have to not only work hard, network, you have
to meet a lot of people, talk to a lot
of people. See where you can grow. Don't just pigeonhole
(06:46):
hold yourself into one like apartment. Try to learn everything
you know. I'm in the promotions department, but I learned
on air and I learned a little bit of sales
to learn production work. It doesn't matter matter what business
you know, maybe someone from high school or college is
trying to get into, it's still the same thing. Learn
(07:06):
everything you possibly can and just believe that it might
not happen right now, it might not happen a year
from now, but it will happen if you just be
persistent and work hard, don't burn your bridges, and good
things will come. And even when you think, well there's
nowhere else for me to go, you'll be surprised that
(07:29):
something will pop up and you'll be offered something that
you just never thought could happen, and you're recommended for
something because you have proven that you were a hard worker.
So just don't think it's gonna happen overnight, but work
hard and believe and one day it will come to you.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
And lastly, community Shawnee speaking to Jean Marie. She is
here from our marketing promotions department, the director that helps
us all throughout the day to guide us, and let
me tell you she is a great guide. Recently we
had a big event for Saint Patrick's Day and you
were involved with the five sisters that I had the
(08:13):
privilege of interviewing. Talk to us about that culture and
just that experience and understanding. You know, how we come
together with our community and those that are from a
different country, but we still connect through music.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah, so you know, the the Cole Haynes sisters are
amazing and we just built over the years and it
really hasn't been a multir partnership of us, for lack
of better way of saying it, helping each other. You know,
you know I work with m J. Law and you
know she's like, you let me know whatever you need
from me, and I'm the same way, you know whatever
(08:51):
I need from you, And and they bring us on
on Saint Patrick, as you said, and we learn about
the Irish culture. And she actually told me some things
here that I had no idea. I had no idea.
Cornef and cabbage wasn't even an Irish meal, It's actually
an American meal that we created. You just learn about her
culture in Ireland and the things that they brought over
to their two amazing locations on South Side and Atlantic Beach,
(09:15):
and just a great community establishment as well. They're Jacksonville
based and they love it here and they want to
serve the community, just like we do.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Community. That's what we do.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
We connect with outside businesses and we help to serve.
Talking to Jean Marie Kirch here today, she is the
marketing promotions director over all our clusters, So understand that
her day is busy, but she is here to serve us.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
So Geene, what's.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Next for iHeart what's next for us? On the calendar
so the community can know, because this is a part
of what we do is to promote how we serve
the community.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
We're heading into spring, you know, obviously festival season. We
have many awesome festivals going on around how probably the
biggest one is next weekend it's Springing the Blues out
the Supervillaion Jacks Beach. That's three days and just a
free event for everyone to enjoy. Everyone loves blues music.
(10:18):
It can be a little bit rock and roll, it
could be a little R and B, so even a
little country in a way kind of. So that's probably
whe our next big event. And of course with summer,
we have so many things around town that we're going
to be a part of and you can always check
our community calendar part of our website to see exactly
where we are and involved with for sure.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
And that's right because we are involved with everything sports
and also the beach will be opening soon, so be
sure to check our community calendar page. Gene, thank you
so much for being a great lead and always ensuring
that we are aware, you know, and working with each
and every one of us and building each and every
one of us. So I just wanted to take time
(10:58):
to give you your flowers to day, saluting you Women
History Month, understanding that we all are resilient in every
way and you have shown us that. So thank you
for just being a great lead here at Aea.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
And yeah, thank you Shannie for taking the time people
need to understand too that you are taking your time
to do this show, and it's not just the one
day thing. You're setting up interviews, you are putting together
the questions and then you're going to edit it and Eric,
So I think everyone needs to understand how much work
you do for the community as well just by producing
(11:35):
this show. So thank you so much for doing that.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Well, you are welcome, and Jeane, I know that life
is amazing, but we together can conquer all of the things.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
That are coming.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Thank you so much, Jean Marie for being a part
of community Viewpoints. This is Johnnie feeling blessed and highly favored.
On this Sunday morning. We are empowering a community and
enlightening you with some women who are doing some fierce
things in the community. So today I have Amanda Scott.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Amanda, how are you today?
Speaker 4 (12:14):
I'm doing so well? How about yourself?
Speaker 1 (12:16):
You know blessed that I could interact with so many
community advocates, people who are enjoying their jobs but empowering
a community. So if you would share yourself with the community,
tell us a little something or what you would like
to share about Amanda Scott.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
I grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, and I made my
way to Jacksonville, and from there I worked with the
Alhambra here in Jacksonville, and now I'm working with Broadway
and Jacksonville with FSCJ Artists Series. I've always had a
theater background. I studied at Florida State University, so I
(12:57):
am a Florida girl, even though I'm not in Florida,
but very familiar with everything that we have going on here.
And you know, it's just wonderful to be able to
give this to the community, to experience such wonderful, inspiring
stories with our Broadway in Jacksonville series and everything else
(13:20):
that we present including concerts, opera, dance, comedy and family productions.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Undy Shawnee speaking to the Assistant director of Marketing, Amanda
Scott from FSCJ Artist Series Broadway in Jacksonville, and she's
here to enlighten us about what is really going on
at the Broadway in Jacksonville. Now, Amanda talk to us
and tell us to us about what has been happening,
(13:49):
and then we'll come forward as what the community can expect.
You said, Something About You opened up one of the
series today.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Yes, so we just announced our twenty five twenty six
Broadway in Jacksonville season and it includes five premieres to Jacksonville.
Kicking off the season is Clue, the lighthearted Who Done
It that's based off of the movie and hasbro board gates.
Then we go into missisdoubt Fire, featuring everyone's favorite Scottish
(14:21):
nanny in a feel good comedy with the iconic scenes
from the film and a touch of musical flair. Mulan Rouge.
The musical explores the lavish and sensual world of parents
and goes into the bohemian values of truth, beauty, freedom
and love. Then we have a Beautiful Noise, the Neil
(14:41):
Diamond Musical. It's an uplifting and the untold true story
of rags to riches and into an American icon and
it's endorsed by Neil Diamond himself, which is really fascinating.
Beetlejuice is our final performance in the Broadway in Jacksonville series,
and it's a brilliant staging of Tim Burton's dearly beloved film.
(15:04):
There's hilarious antics, bizarre visuals, and colorful lunacy and it's
just screamingly good fun community.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Shawnee speaking to Amanda Scott highlighting Women's History Month. Amanda
is here to share with us her passion as you
can hear in her voice. And what is going on
with FSCJ Artist Series, Amanda, How can the community get

(17:43):
When I heard this, I was ready to do the moonwalk.
I was ready to find a jacket. I was ready

ooz the excitement, but just also honor a man that
puts so much into the arts, puts so much in
to music, and I know this is going to be
something that the community should see. So, community, if you
(18:06):
want to get out and just enjoy the arts, but
see something phenomenal.

The musical is coming. Now, what can the community expect?
I know it's going to be enlightening. Have you seen it, Amanda?
I did.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
Yeah. I got the opportunity to see it in New
York and it was my favorite show when I went there.
You know, it was just this past season and there
were so many wonderful productions. I mean, the Outsiders, kimber Lear, Canbo,
everything was spectacular. But MJ really locked me in. I
(18:40):
mean it was just electrifying and just from start to finish,
I was so curious about this man's creative process and
being able to see the story which is centered around
the nineteen ninety two Dangerous World Tour and the level
(19:02):
of talent in the show. It was spectacular. Hands down.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Well, community, we have something else to put on the
to do list. I understand that behind the scenes there
are Tony an Emmy Award artists that will be displaying
their talent. So it's coming to Jacksonville. It will be here, Amanda. Again,
