us is Shane six. Say HiShane, Hello there and Cambriy Gossip from
the Shiners. How you doing?Hi? Good? Thanks for having us,
And we're here to talk about thePowerama Custom Auto Show that's coming back.
(00:23):
This it's returning, Is that right? Well it's our first time out,
but we haven't had a good indoorcar shown here in twenty something years,
so this is your first. Thisis our first Power Ama Yes,
awesome. So give us a littlehistory. What's going on? Shane?
Okay, well, my whole life, I'm a custom painter and I've always
done the show's circuits, and thenI've worked with Casper, used to be
(00:43):
at herro arena and stuff. Youknow. So I put on charities.
I've done a lot of them forthe last thirty years, about seventy of
them. Oh wow, And Ido a lot. I was doing a
lot in Louisville, but I quita few shows and I wanted to move
it back up here. Okay,Well, my friend Jeff Lane, he
always had a of putting on acar show, so I was like,
hmm, he says, I don'tknow how to do it. I do,
(01:08):
So here we are. That's great. Yeah. And I actually I
was on the website just not toolong ago, and I was just looking
at some of the cars that theGallery of Automobiles. Holy cow. Yes,
if you're gonna be if you're acar fan, especially a custom car
fan, you're not going to wantto miss this show. It's it looks
like it's gonna be a fabulous time. Well, I'm bringing the old school
(01:30):
of how it used to be inthe old days, and then all your
I got radical cars and race carsand a little bit of raiety everything.
I got a lot of themed carstoo, like Batman, Scooby Doo,
Yeah, Nightmares on Christmas and theGhostbusters and hot Wheels. Hot wheel so
we'll have something for the kids andall for the buildings. Yeah. And
(01:53):
then a fifth building we have isuh for food and drinks, all taken
care of by the expos Okay,so shame. Where is it? You
said? It's at Xenia County,Xenia at the Green County Fairgrounds. Okay,
awesome. And then it's an allindoor show and it's February seventeenth,
eighteenth and nineteenth. Okay, great, how many cars you think you'll have?
(02:14):
Well, we could fit about onehundred and fifty cars along with the
vendors. Wow. And then we'rea small show. No, And then
I can't find a bigger place toput it in around here. So that's
what we got. Yeah, yeah, that sounds like a blast. Now
you had mentioned that you this iskind of your thing. You've done plenty
of these kind of things for charity. So how do you get charity involved
(02:35):
in this? Well, see,I'm a one man band. I don't
have a committee or a big youknow, organization or not sure. But
then all my friends throughout the allyears, they've known what I've done and
been straight up one hundred percent. And I don't make a diamond doing this
stuff, but I have sponsors thatback me up to where it don't cost
me nothing. The Good Lord gaveme the gift to do what I do.
(02:58):
Right here here we go. Giveme a good challenge. Sure,
yeah, and so you get youyou donate some of the some of the
proceeds I'm imagining to charities. Well, see the Parorama show is a show,
but see I can't have a I'mthe Coolsville paint Slingers also, okay,
And then that's a group of meand my artist friend. I got
about twenty five thirty guys that arelegendary artist on the automotive field. Yeah.
(03:21):
Yeah. We paint up all kindsof items and we auction it off
to the public at the show, and then we give one to the Shriners.
So that, oh, to theShriners. All the whole charity that
I do goes to them. Nowthe show, you know, and then
the pin up contests and I havea model card contest. Yeah, and
I also have a couple of celebritiescoming in. I got Ryan Evans from
(03:42):
count Customs TV show. Yeah, yeah, he's my best friend. He's
coming in and he'll be even paintingus in the boot with us in the
boots. Ah, that's cool. And then Jake Eisen from the Call the
wild Man TV show trail Man.Right, he's my best he's coming in
and he's gonna support us and dothat. And I got great sponsors that
really made it come true for me. Right, So why did you pick
(04:03):
the Shriners? Can I ask, well, they always done me good.
And I know a lot of Shrinersand they do one and great. I
don't. I don't work my tailoff to be able to go corporate or
something. I wanted to go rightwhere it needs to do. Sure,
and I do. I do charitiesall around the country Utah, Iowa,
(04:26):
Kentucky, Indiana, and I helpa lot of other ones. And I
always give it to a nice hospitalfor kids. Sure. And I'll tell
you what now that the Shriners BurnedInstitute is here in town, that money's
going to go to a to agreat cause, and that brings us to
Cambri, Cambria. How are you? You are the work in the development
office of the Shriners. Right,Yes, that's correct. So I got
(04:47):
a phone call from Shane one dayand knew that I had to jump on
it. So we have done oneevent with Shane already. Oh really and
so yeah, that was the oneof the shows in this summer time,
and so we're gearing up for thisone coming up. But Shriners, we're
on the second floor of Daton Children'sHospital. We've moved into town about two
(05:08):
years ago now, and we're knownfor treating kids with burns, also cleflip
and palette creatiofacial conditions, and wedo it at no charge to any of
our families from A to Z.We want to make sure that those kids
and their families are well taken careof at our facility. There's so much
more to the Shriners than what peoplesee. I mean, everybody's used to
(05:29):
going to a parade and you know, seeing the Feds hats and the little
cars and bikes and all that kindof stuff, and they're like, oh,
look, the Shriners are here, are going to the circus, that
kind of jazz and all the clowns, and it's such a good time and
they put on such a great show. But there was so much more involved
and as you say, it reallydoes help the kids. Yeah, at
the end of the day, itall goes back to the kids. The
(05:51):
Schrider's mission is for the kids andfor their families, and we could not
do what we do at the hospitalwithout the support of the Shriners that you
see out in the community. Soif you ever see them out, whether
it's a parade, a circus,or one of their fundraisers, make sure
to go up and say hi.They'd love to tell you more about the
hospital. Absolutely, yeah, sowhat can you what kind of stuff that
(06:13):
it's the that you guys have beenthere for two years? You said,
Yeah, So we moved up fromCincinnati about two years ago now for a
lot of different reasons, but weare so thankful to be up here in
Dayton. The community has welcomed uswith open arms. Dayton Children's has been
such a welcome partner for us andreally has expanded the the things that we're
(06:36):
able to do as a hospital, right because we have so many more doctors
right down the hallway to be ableto help our kids. Right. And
how's the transition been? Has itbeen? I mean, you guys are
pretty well moved in now over thepast. Yeah, so we're totally moved
in now. Of course, there'sgrowing pains, right when you have moved
to hospital that's been in the sameplace for fifty plus years. Our space
(06:59):
is a lot, but we area lean, mean fighting machine and helping
more kids than ever. So whathappens like with the money that Shane is
going to raise with doing these auctionsat the Powerama Custom Car Show, what
do you guys do with that kindof stuff? Right? So, first
of all when I went to thelast show in support of Shiners. All
of these guys spend all day doingthe amazing work that they do just to
(07:25):
support Shiners. They don't ask foranything in return. They literally spend the
entire day just doing their work tosupport the Shiners. And so we take
that money and we put it directlyinto our patient care. It costs a
lot of money to treat bur inpatients. Our average patient is a seven
year old girl, and so itcosts a lot of money to be able
(07:46):
to care for them. But whatwe do at Shiners is not just emergency
care but also follow up care, and so a lot of those kids we
will see up until the age ofeighteen or until they no longer need our
services. It's not a one anddone at our hospital. We make sure
that they get the continuous care thatthey need, you know, throughout their
childhood. And you don't charge itdown to the patient, not at all.
(08:09):
See a bill. That is somethingelse. And Shane, your organization
and what you're doing is helping toprovide that need that that the Shriners has.
That is great. Yeah, allI was in for is I want
one of the blankets, all right, So Shane, let's talk particulars about
about the show. So it's comingup February seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth,
(08:33):
going to be a great weekend, and you mentioned it's out the Green County
Fairgrounds, right all right, Solet's say I want to can you can
you get people registered a car orhow does that work? Yeah, registration's
going now and we're already doing acceptancelenders out okay. And I got some
wild cow got a stagecoach Tombstone Territoryand Land. It's a wild freaky ride.
(08:54):
Yeah. Yeah. A bunch ofold vintage cars in uh dateon area
that are coming back out, likethe El Morocco it's a fifty seven Chevy
el Camino that there was only likefive ever made. No one knows about
it, oh wow. And thenall the themed cars, and then I
got a bunch of show stoppers. Then a variety of just about anything you
(09:16):
know, from uh the import carsto the race car everything. Yeah yeah.
And then w w TE they're goingto bring their cager nice and play
music for the weekend. Yeah, very cool. And uh then I got
some celebrity guest judges for my uhpup contests okay. Nice, and then
in the show we got top fiftyand then about twenty five more specialty awards
(09:41):
for it okay, and then uh, the to get in the show for
a spectator, it's fifty bucks toenter your car. Fifty to enter your
car. Yeah, over the weekend. Is there particulars that they have to
you have to like approve the carthat can Yeah, somebody's just not driving,
like they just can't drive up.Can we get this in? You're
like, yeah, run it right, Yeah, fill out the app,
(10:03):
send us some photos. Did wegive you acceptance letters? And then the
ones that ain't accepted or still onstandby in case someone fails so we could
kill the spot. Yeah, doyou have anything outside? Just out of
curiosity because we kept it all insidethe You never know about the weather in
Ohio, unpredictable, right, andthen spectators will be fifteen bucks, and
(10:24):
then from ages six to twelve wouldbe seven dollars and then hundred six is
uh, it's free. Nice,So it's only fifteen bucks to get in?
Yes? Is that daily? Yeah? Okay, and then you can
get a weekend pass for thirty Waita minute, so you can get a
three day pass for thirty or youcan spend fifteen dollars versus one day.
We knocked five dollars off to day. Well, see, we don't.
(10:46):
I don't want to be too greedyor not. I want to build this
show into something built. Oh yeah, now right now, we're an outlaw
show and it ain't a sanctioned ISCAshow. But even I've worked with the
show circ gitt and everything so much. If we want to, they're coming
to the show, check us out. If I do this right, yeah,
we can become a sanctioned show.Right. Nice? And then the
(11:07):
thing about a sanctioned show when you'rein the circuit, then all these people
have to do a one star ora three star and a five star show
to compete at the end. Yes, I got you. So they'd have
to come, and then we'd neverrun out of future cars. Huh.
Nice? You know from all aroundthe country. Yeah, then let's get
it massive then yeah, let's yeah, get out there and support this.
So do you do you have somethinga little different each day? I mean,
(11:31):
is there a different prize? Isthere a different auction that you do
each and every day? Well?I do one auction Friday, three Saturday,
and one Sunday. So I dofive auctions, so you do.
And then one time I went tothe Goodwill store, I bought a pair
of white stiletto heels. Yeah,I painted flames on them. Yeah yeah.
They went for three hundred and tenbucks in the auction. Now that
if I could turn something like thatinto gold. We do hubcap stores.
(11:54):
Anything at a mailbox, I'll paintyour shoes. Just stay still a long
enough, you know, we'll doanything, and we auction this off and
the crowd goes nuts, and thenall the money goes right to them.
Yeah. That's really That's how I'mblessed in my own little weird way,
you know, to be able tohelp. Right, So what about you
(12:16):
need any volunteers, any help?Yes, yes, we are always doing
that. I'm doing set up.I'm laying out the place on Wednesday,
but then cars are coming in onThursday, right, okay, all right,
and then set them up Thursday intoFriday, and then the show starts
at five on Friday till ten tento ten on Saturday, and then ten
to five or six on Sunday afterthe awards are done. Okay, So
(12:39):
if somebody would like to help setup or whatever they how do they do
that? Contact me at nine threeseven, eight seven, eight, five
one six four okay, And howdo I get tickets? We don't have
them our first year out, sowe don't have a big sponsor to be
able to buy ticket. We're justat the door this year, so you're
till we get more and more sponsors. And you know, I'm just it's
(13:01):
been a long time since we hadso I don't want to bite off more
than I can four so it's keepin general. But then also I don't
have the classes set up on thisshow yet because the registration didn't get up
to find out how many classes Ihave to be able to make the trip.
So I'm doing a top fifty.Yeah, be safe, figure it
out and then we get more ofa game plan. All right. I'm
(13:22):
looking for huge success, not onlyfor you, Shane, but also for
Cambri and Shriner. Yes, hopingfor a huge weekend of people coming out
and enjoy it. Cambriy I hadasked him about, you know, volunteering
for his show to help that out. What about the Shriners. Do you
guys need volunteers for anything? So, unfortunately we're not able to take volunteers
at the hospital. With COVID andwith RSV being really prominent, burn patients
(13:46):
are actually more susceptible to different diseasesthan most would be sure, and so
the way that we ask for volunteersis through our third party fundraising events,
just like what Shane is doing.Whether it's a car show or a lemonade
stand. We have so many peoplein the Dayton area that put on fundraisers,
(14:09):
whether it's for physical items like blanketsand bears or monetary donations that support
the Shriners. Can you donate directlyonline like monetary? Yeah? So yeah,
you can go online and then inthe Shiner's hospital system there's twenty two
different hospitals. But we just askedthat if you're around the area, if
you want to support local, justselect your local Ohio hospital and we'll make
(14:31):
sure it gets to the kiddos inyour area. Awesome, Shane, I
wish you all the success. Ihope this gets bigger and bigger each and
every year. Should be a blast. It's the Powerama Custom Auto Show.
It's happening February seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth at the Green County Fairgrounds.
Shane Cambery, thanks for coming inthis morning. Thank you, thank you
very much.
