Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeah, it's Michael J.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
And I could not be more excited to introduce you
here on the Michael J Podcast to one of our
favorite country stars, one of the coolest guys in Nashville,
one of, you know, the nicest guys in all the
country music Thomas Fratt.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Hey, good morning, Thomas Fratt. I can't believe I'm talking
with you. I get excited good.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
I get excited every time I hear you're gonna be
on the phone, because you know, I'm a huge fan
and I love the music and I just think that
like it. You know, people always ask me, they say,
Michael J. You know you talk to the country stars,
what are they really like? And you are the epitome of,
you know, just a great guy, nice, easy to talk with.
(00:49):
I'm gonna shut up, but I just want you to know.
I want you to know how much we appreciate you
in country music.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Man. I needed to hear that this morning. Thank you
very much.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
So with four daughters, you know, will do you and
your wife see any any future potential of them wanting
to be in show business even at a young age.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Are they showing that showing that off.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Kind of you know, they're they're at that stage where
they're literally trying everything. You know, they're riding horses, they're
doing gymnastics, they're doing ballet, they're you know, playing soccer,
doing basketball, They're doing all the things that the kids
should do. Just try to, you know, figuring it out
what they're good at and what they like. But yeah,
I mean they're especially my old my older three, I mean,
they're constantly coming up with like hilarious, like little rhymes
(01:34):
and like little little bits of songs, and so, you know,
anytime that they're on one, I'll just turn my voice
recorder on and just kind of record what they're doing,
because I think one day they're going to want to hear,
especially if they're like, you know, wanting to get into
the music business or songwriting or singing. I just want
them to know that it was a part of them
when they were little. Like I love that my dad
has so much footage of me singing when I was
(01:54):
a kid, because it makes total sense of why I'm
doing this today because it was kind of a part
of me. It was like in my DNA because I
got watch my dad do it. And so it's too
early to tell, but man, they're all very musical they
love like my my seven year old loves to play
the drums, My nine year old loves by the piano,
like Lennon loves to work with me on the computer
and like make beats and singing the microphone. And so
(02:14):
you know, we'll we'll see, but it's a little too
early to tell.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Sounds like a reality show.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
So yeah, while we're talking about kids real quick, we're
getting ready for Saint Jude. And if I could ask
you a favorite, Thomas Rhett, can you just say something
about Saint Jude. We're gonna be doing the big radio
thion and I'd love to have your support.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Yeah, dude, you know, Saint Jude has always been such
a huge part of mine and my wife's life. You know,
we we we always go to the fundraisers every year.
We always donate towards Saint Jude. And I remember kind
of had to have been seven or eight years ago
I actually got to go on the property of Saint
Jude and Memphis, and and uh, you know, I think
like as a parent, you know, if I had a
(02:51):
kid that was really sick and needed help, like obviously
Saint Jude, it would be the place that I would
go and I think just walking in there, seeing the
joy and the spirit of just like all the doctors
and all the parents feel so hopeful that they really
have the best care in the world, and that it's
like you don't pay it's like genuinely is one of
the craziest things that has been done in my lifetime,
(03:13):
you know, the opening of Saint Jude. And so I
remember going there once and you know, talking to doctors like, man,
our mission is to like not have to be a
hospital that we figure out exactly how to cure, you know,
all these sicknesses, so that these sicknesses don't exist. And
so you know a lot of time you walk into
the hospital and it's kind of dark and it's gloomy,
but like when you walk into Saint Jude, there's just
a life about that place that is kind of unparalleled
(03:35):
to anywhere else. And so huge supporters of Saint Jude,
huge supporters of all the work that the doctors and
the researchers and the donors are doing just to kind
of keep the doors, you know, open on that place.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
So amen, thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Hey, So, what is your guilty pleasure when you've just
got to get away and clear your mind.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
What is Thomas Rhett.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Till Man Probably I don't know, deer hunting or playing golf.
Those are probably my two out.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
And which are you better at?
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Some days it's golf. Much of the time it's just
sitting that can sit in a deer stand pretty easily.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Yeah, well, you certainly got the country music thing down.
Let me ask you this. The song Beautiful as You,
it's going to be your next number one. There's no doubt.
It was written by Thomas Rhett, Rocky Block, Joshua Coleman,
Alexander I don't know how to say his last name,
Jacob Casher, Hendland, I guess, John Ryan, and zayir Kelsey.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
How the hell do you have all those writers on
one song?
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Man. There's times where a song will get started like
three years ago, right, And this is kind of the
case of that. So, like, you know, two guys got
in a room and kind of started the verse, and
then they just like forgot about it. And then they're
in a righte a year later, and like there's two
other people at it, and then they write the chorus
and they forgot about it, and so by the time
the chorus melody got to me. It had kind of
(04:56):
been like this, you know, sorted out over the course
of three or four years, and so by the time
we finished it and I singled it, there's a lot
of people that had a hand in, you know, writing
a verse, or writing a melody, or writing the bridge
or writing the chorus. And so you're starting to see
that a lot kind of lately in country music, where
you know, a lot of people will bring up songs
that they started four years ago, okay, and then they'll
they'll finish it with like three other people, but you know,
(05:18):
before you know it, there's there's eight people on the track.
So that's that's kind of the story of that.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yeah, well you're going to be singing that on this tour.
And I was not just blowing smoke, dude. I am
a huge Thomas Rhett fan. I've already got my ticket.
I've already got my tickets for August twenty second. You're
going to be a Jiffy loub live in Bristow, Virginia,
the Veteran Boots headlining tour with Tucker Wetmore, Dasha and
the Costellos. Tell me about it. Tell me about the tour.
(05:44):
You got to be excited about this.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Man, I'm so pumped because you know this this whole year,
we really only did festivals. My goal this year was
to was to play shows, but also to really just
be around, you know, as a as a father, as
a husband, as a friend. And so we only did
about thirty shows this year. So I'm as fun as
it was getting to be home. I'm looking forward to
kind of getting back into a rhythm of you know,
being on the road and playing three shows a week,
(06:08):
and to have a bunch of new uh, you know,
just energy on the road, people like Tucker and Dasher
and the Castellos, Like I've only gotten to meet Dasher,
I haven't even met I haven't even met Tucker or
the Castello's looking forward to seeing. Yeah, they have to
bring energy wise to the stage. Yeah, and hopefully we
get to write some songs between now and then, and
hopefully we get to put some music out together before
the tour. I think it be a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Well, I look at it this way real quick.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Anybody that makes it through high school with the last
name wet Moore's got to be a tough guy.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
He's the best. I've only gotten a FaceTime with him
and he's he's having such a huge moment right now.
I can't wait to see what he brings next year.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Well, we're looking forward to seeing you.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
You're going to be wrapping up this year with your
first Vegas residency at the Farce and Blue at Las Vegas.
That's very cool, so, you know, congratulations on everything that's
going on. Beautiful family and my favorite country star too.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
So I appreciate that man over your time this one too.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
You got it, brother, I'm telling you one of the
nicest guys in country music because he's so normal.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
See that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
I just appreciate the fact that your big stars could
be normal here because there's a lot of people out
there who aren't, as we both know. All right, listen,
thanks for following and thanks for listening here with the
