Speaker 1 (00:03):
Ladies and gentlemen. Pate McCrae goes face to face with
Bennett on most requested line.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Hey, it's been a minute. How you doing. I'm good.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (00:13):
I'm doing fantastic, So awesome to see you. Congrats on life.
You're all I see on my TikTok right now. It's
been like a year since I've seen you in person.
But like I can just scroll on TikTok. It's either
you on my for you page or moo dang. It's
either one or the other. Right, it's pretty big. How
has life been? I mean when we last talked, it

(00:36):
was the night before Greedy came out. We were backstage
at your show at the Fillmore. You were feeling all
the all the emotions, right, and I just wish Greedy
worked out for you. I just wish that was a hit,
you know what I mean, Like, I agree, what could
have been the one that got away exactly?

Speaker 2 (00:53):
But what a year?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
I mean, this has just been insane, between the album,
the tour, Greedy. I'm okay, It's like this is just
this era is just insane.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
How have you been?

Speaker 4 (01:04):
I mean, tour this year was unbelievable, Like one of
my favorite tours I've ever done. This year's like flown by.
There's just I've had like bucketless moments I've done. It's
been really fun. It's been really lots of hard work
and very busy, but yeah, we're having a good time
with it. It's been crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
So yeah, and this new single, it's okay, I'm okay.
It's just it's such a vibe. The video too, Like
it's it's the whole package. The vibe is getting like
early two thousands vibe, like it's very early two thousands coded.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
What was the info with the video and the and
the single.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
I mean a lot of it. Honestly.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
We were just gonna film this video when I was
doing my show in New York. I was playing like
the day before, so I like two days off, so
we're like planning on filming the music video in New York.
So we built this treatment off of like basically dancing
in the streets of New York. Anyway, we couldn't get
it done, so we ended up having to shoot in
Los Angeles. But it was kind of just like recreating

(02:03):
New York again and the energy of like dancing down
the streets with cars and Cops and just like well Vie,
we tried to pull it.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Off in La It's so much fun.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
And another song with Ryan Tedder and like the man
is just a genius, Like I feel like he's ai,
like he's not a real person, like working with Ryan
again for this song.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
I mean, me and.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Ryan work all the time. He's been working on all
my new music recently too. I think we just have
a really good chemistry in the studio. You find your
people that you feel inspired by and are on the
same page as you sonically. I feel like he knows
what I'm trying to go for, which is really cool to.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Have someone in the studio like that. He's also just
so talented.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
And so the story behind the song is like you
were you were You're hungry, right, like you don't eat
during a writing session, and so that's that's where the
line came from.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
Like this song like started last year in August kind
of is good joke a little bit.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
It was.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
We didn't end up finishing the song. We just had
like the card it's okay, I'm okay because I kept
saying that like phrase like every day in Sweden. We
were like, let's just put that down and be funny.
And yeah, we ended up making into the song like
a year later. But it's it's always funny how things
sprout at the beginning.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah, what did you eventually eat?

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Like?

Speaker 2 (03:19):
What what was like your championship meal after that song?

Speaker 1 (03:23):
I don't know if.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Sweden was interesting. I feel like I was eating weird
in Sweden. I don't know what I ate that night,
but who knows.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Hopefully something good.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
I mean, do you have any more catchphrases like in
the bag that's ready for the next song that you
can weave him?

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Maybe it'll come, I hope.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
So, talking about this new album, you were saying you're
writing songs with Ryan Tedder.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
How is this process gone for you so far?

Speaker 1 (03:48):
So far, it's been so fun.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
I mean I've been I've literally been on tour all year,
so I'm just like any pocket where i can write
or get in the studio or record on the tour bus.
I've been just trying my best. But yeah, in the
last couple of weeks, I've definitely been in this every
day making some stuff that I'm very, very excited about.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
So and it seems like with you, just as important
as the lyrics and the songs are is the choreography.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
So when you're writing the music.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Are you also thinking about the choreography and how it's
gonna look in terms of you know, music video treatments
and stuff like that, or touring.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
It's okay, I'm okay.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
I had a very specific vision on the visual of it,
and like the music video, the way we premiered the
song was very particular. Usually I just when the song
is the song, I just kind of think about that
and then I focus on the visuals after. But for
this one, it was like all I could envision was
the music video and the performance of it. So yeah,

(04:44):
a lot of it was visually driven.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
We were talking last year backstage.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
You were always saying like it's kind of hard to
come off the high, right, Like you get on, you
get on stage, you're singing in front of all your fans,
they're singing the lyrics back at you. Then you come
off stage and like, right now you kind of have
a lull on your tour right now, got some time
off before you go off to Tokyo and overseas and
stuff like that. So how has you know the downtime?

Speaker 4 (05:07):
Ben?

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Is it? Is it tough? Like not having that high
that rush, or.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Is it kind of nice to have a little bit
of a breather and think about the album and maybe
your own personal life.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
I mean, that is a really interesting thing coming off
tour because it's like a switch in my brain just
because the ability to like get on stage and exude
that much energy and like.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Be in that headspace is so specific. It means a
a specific zone.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
So when you come off come off tour, it feels
like everything is boring. You just feel like the most
boring person alive. I'm like, I have no hobbies, so
unable to like focus on one thing.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
I am so adhd.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
Like you just feel like a disaster because your whole
life was this performance and you're like, holy shit, I
have to actually like figure out my life now. But yeah,
it's it's always interesting to coming back home and getting
back into the swing of like normal.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Life, going to the grocery store, like doing the regular
ass things that I do.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Like it's fun, right, oh fun.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
It's great, It's awesome, But you'd be back on tour
in no time. So and then that tour runs all
the way through the end of the year, right, You're everywhere.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Yeah, it's we're NonStop.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
It's insane.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Well, I just so appreciate you taking some time and
like chatting about this album. No release date yet, right,
You're still like in the thick of it.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Yeah, I'm the thick of it.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
I feel that we always wrap up the interviews, though,
I must requested live with the song you wish you wrote.
Is there a song lately that you're kind of getting
a little bit of inspo from?

Speaker 2 (06:42):
You're like, I wish I thought of that.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
First Sympathy is a Knife by Charlie XCX is one
song that I.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Wish I wrote. I think it's such a brilliant song
and I love it so much.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Insane. That's a good Tate McCrae. It's okay, I'm okay.
This song is just a huge another banger tat you
don't miss.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
It's so good to catch up and we'll see you
on tour, right.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Yes see you soon.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Thank you so much, Thanks Tate, good Bye,
