(00:00):
But on this morning, Jim,this morning, instead we got the tweet
from Pete Tamil from ESPN, thecollege Football writer, saying that Troy Danen
is out as the University of Washingtonathletic director, taking the job at Nebraska
a six year contract to go toNebraska, and it has a lot of

(00:22):
us, I think most of uswondering what in the world is going on?
Why would Troy dan and leave Washingtonfor Nebraska after only being here for
less than six months. I mean, seriously, come on, who does
that? Who does that? Andwhat justification can you have for doing something

(00:43):
like that on a personal human beinglevel? I just I am so fed
up with this stuff. I mean, there's the kug in me that's like
thinking, now, this is hilarious. What's going on with Washington all this
turmoil? Because we love that kindof thing on Montlake. But if I'm
a Husky fan, We're gonna betalking to Softy here in a few minutes.
But he was on with Chuck andBucky this morning too, just to

(01:04):
get his reaction to what's going on, and I agree with him. Good
riddance, good riddance to Troy danAnd just like when Jen Cohen left,
Remember Jen Cohen. Oh, I'mso I can't do it like Puckett does
it. I'm so stuff I can't. I'm so happy to be the Husky
easy, purple and gold in myveins and oh my god. And then

(01:29):
you know, she goes to USCand that wasn't a bad Cohen, was
it. And so you know,I wished her. I wanted her to
be a miserable failure down there atUSC. And I still do because I
just think that's BS just bailing likethat, especially when you express your allegiances
like that. You know, it'salmost like it's almost like till death do
us part until I get a betteroffer. There's just no loyalty Troy Dan

(01:53):
and I mean, he seemed likejust kind of a I can't believe that
Nebraska wants this guy, and yetthey've given him a six year contract.
So there's a lot of things thatwill try and make sense of over the
course of the next three hours.Well, I get why. I do
get why Nebraska was interested. Imean, he has a lot of experience,
he is deeply involved with I thinka lot of the reform that's going

(02:15):
to be coming to college sports overthe next couple of years, because we
are going to see a lot ofchanges to what college sports looks like over
the next couple of years. Healready has an understanding of what going into
the Big Ten is going to looklike. He's been involved in those meetings
for the five months that he's beenhere, so I understand why now when

(02:36):
he was in the Big ten here, I understand, Jim, I understand
that. Thank you, But I'mnot mad at you. I'm just kind
of outraged at the whole thing. No, it's it's a horrible look.
I mean, from the standpoint ofshowing up to a place and saying all
the right things and expressing that thisis hopefully the last job you'll ever have,

(02:57):
and then for not even it tolast for six month months, it's
a terrible look. I mean,it's it's an it's an awful perception of
both you as an individual, butthen also the situation that you are leaving
it gives off this this aura orthis perception or this image that Washington is
a complete mess. If you're willingto show up in not even last six

(03:21):
months for the idea or before takingoff for the next best opportunity that comes
up for you. It just itjust gives the impression that what you're leaving
behind is not in a good place. And yeah, Washington's got its issues.
It's got it's got a deficit,it's got debt service coming up on
Husky Stadium. It's trying to finda basketball coach right now. So it's

(03:44):
not a it's not a seamless situationor or a perfect situation. You can
make the argument that the stability inPullman is better than the stability in on
Motlake right now. But I understandfrom Nebraska's standpoint why they would be looking
at Troy Dan in the first place. Well, I don't get it,
and let's see if Softy gets it. Dave Maller joins us now ship more

(04:06):
with Tim Booth here Sports Radio ninetythree point three kJ R FM. I
heard you with Chuck and Bucky thismorning. SOFTI and I couldn't agree more.
Good riddance to this guy. Itseems like it was never a good
fit from the get go. Well, first of all, I'm sitting here
having a nice visit with my mom, my seventy seven year old mom,
visiting with her, and then Iget a phone call from YouTube knucklehead.

(04:28):
So whole day ruined for the mostpart, to be honest with you,
so we'll try and pick it upfrom here. But what do you what
did you mean by the way,I'm kidding? How about some how about
some some cursory laughs? For God'ssake, I'm kidding. I laughed laughing,
and I'm offended. Yeah, howdare you say that about a guest
host? What's your mom thinking? What's your mom think about Dan and leaving?

(04:49):
My mom has no idea who Danit even is? Are you kidding
me? My mom has no ideawho I am half the time, for
God's sake, which is why Ilove talking to her, because she's got
no clue about what's happening in theworld, all these morons on social media
and the way the world's being rush. He's got no idea, man,
She's just worried about what time lunchis, for God's sake. So I
want my mom's life man, forsure. But hey, Tim, what

(05:11):
did you mean by there's more stabilityon Paulman than there in the Pullman,
than you, than than than thanMotley. What are you talking about?
Well, you've got you have anathletic director over there right now, which
Washington doesn't you have a basketball coachover there right now, Which Washington doesn't
you have You know, yes, there clearly there are issues over there in

(05:32):
regards to the future and what thePAC two is going to look like and
if there's going to be some sortof reconciliation of all this a few years
down the road. But I'm justtalking about the perception of You've had all
this upheaval at Washington between Jen leavingfor USC, Troy Dan coming in and
not lasting six months, Kaylin deboor bolting after two years for Alabama,

(05:55):
and you don't have a basketball coachright now. The outward perception nationally,
I think is that Washington and isin turmoil right now. Yeah, And
I uh, I just don't seehow that even is going to be relevant
in a month or two months fromnow, when there's a basketball coach and
an ad on the job. Imean, that's that's that's that's all temporary
for you, doubt, And weknow that's temporary because there will be a

(06:16):
new a d and there will bea new basketball coach. I mean,
Washington State doesn't even know what thehell conference they're playing in in five years
from now. Yeah, but softdo you think about the amount think about
the amount of turnover and change you'vehad on this campus in the last nine
months, six months. It's justno question about it. It just gives
us. It just gives the outwardperception that not that Washington is a stepping

(06:40):
stone kind of school, but itjust gives that perception. From a national
standpoint. I'm not saying Washington Stateis on the same level as Washington in
terms of where both schools are rightnow, because clearly they're not. But
from a from an outward look,if you're someone on the East Coast and
you look in and see all that'shappening at Washington over the last year,
you're thinking, what the hell isgoing on there? Why can't they keep

(07:00):
their own people, Why don't theyhave their own any stability there? Right
now? Yeah? All right,I get it. I don't think there's
any doubt that right now there isa tremendous amount of turnover at Washington.
But again, I think all ofthat will be rectified soon. I mean,
we are living in a world rightnow where you're going to have a
third AD in one year, You'regoing to have a second football coach,

(07:25):
You're going to have a second basketballcoach. And who knows about the future
of Anna Mark cause I mean, you know, there's rumors that you know,
she may be stepping down in thenext year or so at Washington,
So there's going to be a lotof transformation at you doub I just think
overall, the position that Washington isin, Washington State's in nowhere near that
position that that that you dub isin. We're talking about twenty million dollars

(07:47):
a year from the Big ten tothree and a half million dollars a year
for WAS and I'm glad that wasin Oregon State are getting that money.
I was glad to hear that wentfrom you know, three hundred and thirty
thousand dollars to you know, overthree million dollars because I think that's the
right thing to do. But Idon't have any doubt that Washington down the
road, tim is going to befine, because Washington is always fine when
it's all said and done. Butyeah, right now, there's absolute turmoil

(08:09):
at you dub, tremendous amount ofturnover at Washington. The dan and thing
for me, look, I mean, guys, I can paint the picture
for people, and you can choosewhether or not you want to accept it
totally up to you. Was neverthe right fit at Washington and by a
lot of people, a majority ofpeople in that department was not well liked

(08:30):
whatsoever. And I've got stories thatI'll be telling on the air at three
o'clock today. I mean, guys, I got to keep some of my
good stuff for my show at threeo'clock this afternoon. But i will tell
you this right now, that TreyDanton leaving Washington. By people that work
inside the departments, this is nota sad day for a lot of people
at Washington the way it's being portrayedon social media, not at all,
trust me. Well, okay,Dave, you save your stories if you

(08:54):
want for three o'clock. I appreciatethat, But give us give us a
specific example as to why this guywas not the right fit there at Washington.
Well, because of the way hetreated people, right. I mean,
I'll give you one story that therewas a there was a there was
a gathering with everybody in the departmentin January and Troy Dan and I've heard

(09:16):
this from two different people, literallytold everybody in the department that he had
no time for the DEI program atWashington because it wasn't important to him.
And that's the Diversity of Quality andInclusion program. And there were people that
literally got up and walked out ofthat meeting in January Gym with Troy Dannon.
And that stuff may fly in theSouth, that may fly in Louisiana,

(09:37):
but in this neck of the woods, in this area, it's not
gonna fly in Seattle whatsoever. Sothere's stories like that, the way he
treated me, the way he treatedyou know, other people in the media,
it's just not the right fit atall. And again, I think
Washington they still have to hire theright person. There's no question. And
look, you know, despite thefact that Troy Danon may have rubbed a

(10:00):
lot of people the wrong way,he may have ruled with an iron fist,
and he may have won. Imean, Jetfish may be the best
ped coach in hockey football history. The next basketball coach that Troy was going
to hire at Washington may take youdead to the final four. All I'm
telling you is that this is nota day that's being looked at as a
sad day by a lot of peoplebehind the scenes. That you Doe.
I'm getting text messages from people thatwork for Washington that are saying good rittance

(10:22):
that he's no longer there. That'sokay thing for a lot of people,
Dave. I want to know whatwas he rude to you? What?
What exactly happened with your relationship withLet's tell you at three o'clock today,
I have a I have a directstory involving Troy dan and that you will
hear at three pm this afternoon. What wait? I can't wait for you

(10:43):
to tune in what I love it? By the way, what do you
think? So you've gone through You'vehad Jen there for several years in this
role, and then you have Troydan in for six months? What does
Washington need to find in the inthe next person that takes this job does
it? Does it need to besomeone who's got experience being someone who has
connections to the big ten? Like? What do they need to find?

(11:03):
I think they just need somebody whofits the culture at Washington, And Troy
Danner was not that guy either,a because he was always looking to get
back to the Midwest, be hishis his style did not fly at Washington.
But they need somebody who fits theculture, and that probably Tim in
the end means somebody with West Coastties and maybe even Washington State ties.

(11:24):
I mean, look, I knowyou know Pat Chun's name is getting tossed
out there. A lot the thethe candidates that I heard were on the
list the last time they hired TroyDannon, uh not. A lot of
them had ties to the Pacific Northwest, and I think that might be the
road that anam mark House needs togo down. You know, somebody who
gets the culture, somebody who getsto fit up here in Seattle. So

(11:46):
I don't know who's on that listnow. To be honest with you,
I don't know what search firm they'llend up using. I mean, clearly
the search firm that they used lasttime did them no favors whatsoever, and
they did use the search firm tohire Troy. But I think you're looking
for somebody who just gets the cultureand is a fit for the Pacific Northwest,
and clearly this guy was off thecase whatsoever. If you haven't heard

(12:07):
the news Troy Dan and the Huskiesad is taking the job at Nebraska to
be their new athletic director and ShimMoore with Tim Booth, joined by Dave
Softy Mahler h pat Chun. Idon't want to hear that name. I
don't want to hear you mentioning thatname, nor do I want you mention
I don't want Kyle Smith in yourmouth either. Softy Okay, Okay,

(12:28):
Then I won't mention pat Chun orKyle Smith. I'll just tell you what
you want to hear me. Tellme what you want to hear, and
I'll say, are they Do youreally think they're going to go after pat
Chun? I mean I think theythey should have gone after him the first
time. I'm trying to get thetimeline correct with the Ohio State job,
because all we kept hearing from peoplethen Pullman is that if pat Chun leaves,

(12:48):
he'll leave for Ohio State. Andthat didn't happen. That job got
filled by somebody else. I'm tryingto remember when that Ohio State job was
filled and where the Husky timeline wasfor their ADC search. But why would
why would pat Schun's name not beon Washington's list? I mean, we'll
find out if he's the right VICculture wise when it's all said and done.
The guy just may love Pullman, for God's sakes, and a lot

(13:09):
of people do. But why wouldPat Shun Jim if you are Ana Marcuse,
if you are heading the search tofind the next Washington ad and you're
not a cougar and you're just lookingat this from an impartial perspective, or
let's say you went to cal orwherever, why would you not want to
talk to Pat Shun? No,you're right about that. How quick how
quickly does how quickly does Washington needto move on this? Do you do

(13:33):
you feel like? I mean, because Nebraska moved pretty damn quick. It
was seven days from when trev Albertstook the the A and M job before
they came and plucked Troy Dan Andhow soon? How soon does Washington need
to have someone in place? Ordoes that matter at this point? Because
you know, whoever, whoever theinterim is probably the one who's hiring the
basketball coach and they can kind ofmove at their own pace with with finding

(13:56):
the right person. Well, there'stwo things there. Number one and the
speed at which this happened Tim withNebraska, I think kind of goes to
show you where this thing was withTroy danon I mean I'm hearing rumors that
he even put his hat in thering for the Missouri job. I think
Troy Danon has been wanting to leaveWashington for a fairly decent amount of time.

(14:16):
I mean, he's only been herefor six months, so you know,
a month, a month and ahalf, you know, two weeks,
three weeks. He was in PalmDesert yesterday at a donor event talking
to donors yesterday, talking about, you know, Washington's future and how there
were things from his perspective that hewasn't thrilled with that you dub. I'm
hearing that from multiple people that werethere at that donor event yesterday. So

(14:39):
I think this has been in theworks for a while. Did Ni Mark
Halsey, you know, instruct himto find a new job? Was it
his idea? Was this Ana Mare'sidea? Was it Troy Dannon's family's idea
to come up with a new gigand go somewhere else. Was the culture
too much for him? I haveno idea about all that stuff, but
I just think in the end, they do have to move fairly quick here,
man. I mean, Nebraska hasshowed that you can find an ad

(15:01):
pretty fast. The idea of havinga you know, a six month interim
person, I don't think, doesyou. Dub Any Favors ern O'Connell was
the interim AD when Jen left forUSC. I don't know what their plans
are in the immediate interim, butI think finding somebody fairy quick is yeah.
I would say that's that's paramount forsure. Hey, Dave pete Famo
of ESPN reporting that you dubs deepinto its search to find Mike Hopkins replacement.

(15:22):
Sources said this move is not expectedto change its timing or direction,
So I what, I can't imaginethat it wouldn't change it a little bit,
wouldn't it. I mean maybe thenew guy coming in, the interim
guy, whoever it is, whoevertakes over, might have a different feeling
than Dan had on that. Well, again, you're going to need a
new basketball coach fairly soon. Imean, if the search for a new

(15:45):
AD takes, you know, fortyfive to sixty days, you can't wait
two months to hire a basketball coaches, So you have to have somebody in
place right away. And if familyis right, that would lead a lot
of credence, I think to DannySprinkle getting the job is dad played football
at Washington, and there's been alot of you know, rumors and smoke
behind the scenes that Danny Sprinkle reallywants this job. He's a West Coast

(16:06):
guy, obviously. He was bornin Pullman. I'm not sure you guys
knew that or not. You know, was raised in Helena, Montana and
it's now what Uta State, Sohe's got a lot of West Coast ties
for sure. And there's a lotof people saying that Danny Sprinkle really wants
the gig, so I don't thinkthe AD would affect a guy like that.
I would also just say this aboutJetfish. I mean, do you
think Jetfish came to Washington because TroyDannon was the AD or do you think

(16:29):
Jetfish came to Washington because it's thenext path for him on his way to
the NFL. Had a better gigthan Arizona, and a bigger NIL program
than Arizona, and more resources thanArizona. So I don't really know.
I like the hire of Jetfish.I think Troy in that regard did a
good job hiring him. I thinkit was the best they could do in
the current situation. But I don'tknow if the AD is going to really

(16:52):
matter if it's a guy like DannySprinkle or a guy like Jetfish. Now,
you gotta hire an AD to geta relationship with Jetfish, because what's
Husky fans' biggest concern that Jetfish isgonna bolt after a year, especially if
that Florida job comes open or hedoes you know miraculous things that Washington and
goes ten and three in his firstyear in the big pen. How the
NFL may even come call him. There is a dearth of quality candidates,

(17:14):
as you guys know, for headcoaches in the NFL, and Jetfish,
I believe is biting his time totake that job when it comes up in
the National Football League. So yougotta get a new AD in here as
soon as possible to start a relationshipwith that guy to make sure if there's
any chance you can hang on tohim for a while, that you do
that. You know, Jen Cohenmaybe would have had a better shot at
keeping Kaitlyn to Boor, but TroyDannon had no shot to keeping Kaitlyn to

(17:36):
Boar. So I want to seewhat a new AD does in regards to
Jetfish's commitment to Washington SOFTI if it'sif it's not Danny Sprinkle, and that
seems to be the prevalent rumor whois it? Is it? Is it
Kyle Smith? Is it Leon Rice? Is it someone from a from more
of a more of a power five, power six conference that's that they can
somehow pluck away and and bring toSeattle well the day. I don't think

(18:00):
where the impacts the guy like Sprinkle. I do think it impacts a lot
of other potential hires, like Dickand I have been talking about will Wade,
who was at LSU when Danon wasat Tulane in Louisiana, and will
Wade has had his issues with theNCAA, but all of those are kind
of looked at, as you know, minor indiscretions. Now with the advent
of nil so, I think willWade is a safer hire now that he

(18:21):
would have been five years ago.The job he didn't make me state is
unbelievable, so he would have beenon the list. Eric Musselman's name is
getting tossed around there from Arkansas.I've heard that name. I will tell
you this that I don't think thatTroy Dannon was a big fan of Kyle
Smith. Coming to Washington. Now, how much does that change with the
new AD. I have no idea, but I do know that the Smith
Dannon potential for a marriage on onon Montlake was less likely with Dan and

(18:47):
than the job that it may bewith a brand new AD. So those
are just some of the names thatwe've heard. You know, Nico Medved
from CSU, who had to winover Virginia last night. We've been talking
about him as well. But Ithink when you look at Toll basketball team,
it's a lot easier to hire acollege basketball coach senate as a football
coach because there's three hundred schools outthere. I mean, there's hundreds of
college basketball coaches to choose from,And I think when you talk about scheme

(19:11):
and leadership and recruiting that stuff, transfer is a lot easier in basketball in
some ways than a dozen football. So I'm not that concerned about the basketball
gig. I think you hire theright guy, you get a couple of
transfers to come in, and youdub I mean, guys, look at
the Big Ten. The Big Tenwas terrible this year, terrible in basketball.
Washington absolutely has a chance to hirethe right person, get a couple

(19:33):
of guys in the portal and getright back to it and maybe be a
bubble team or even in the tournamentnext year. I know it sounds crazy,
but the way they played this year, but this team was more talented
than they showed. They shouldn't havebeen as bad as they were. And
a new coach, especially if acouple of these guys stick around, Big
Frank comes back, they might beokay next year. All right, So
to wrap it up, Softy, you're basically saying that Husky fans should be

(19:56):
I mean, they're surprised, rightfullysurprised, but this should be a good
day for them. I think it'sa good day for Washington because I just
don't think that Dan was the rightfix. Guys. I mean, guy,
look, I mean, what doyou think I'm doing over here?
You know, we talked to alot of people. We see a lot
of things, we hear a lotof stuff, and there were a lot
of folks on campus at Washington thatwere disenfranchised with Troy Dannon and really we're

(20:18):
not thrilled with the way things werebeing done behind the scenes on Mott Lake.
I mean again, you had peopleleave right you know, take off
from the department already. Doesn't meanhe wouldn't have had success. Maybe he
would have ruled the thing with aniron freaking fist and he would have been
phenomenal. What it's all said anddone, And really that's all that Huckey
fans should care about is wins andlosses and how much money they're raising and

(20:41):
how the NIL program is doing. But I think in the end, this
was a guy that was a fishout of water from the second he showed
up here. And I'm not surprisedthat today happened. I'm surprised that happened
this fast, But I'm not surprisedthat Troy Dannon's out of here because it
was never ever the right fix, ever, ever ever. All Right,
soft, you appreciate your time,Say hello to mom, and keep an

(21:03):
eye over your shoulder, because I'mgoing to get you back. Pal,
I'm telling you, I'm getting youback because you pumped me good and I'm
going to get you back. Yeh, remind him what I did, by
the way, I will, Iwill. You had me, You had
me going on that one. Oh, you don't want to bring it up
on the air that you're saying, well, no, we got to go
to break. I'll tell booth Jim'sactually trying to stay on time today for
a change. I'm trying to I'llsee you guys later. All right.

(21:26):
That's Dave Softy Maler. You canhear his stories and his show at three
o'clock this afternoon. If you haven'theard the news, Troy dan And from

a good day for Washington. Ijust think the whole thing is messed up.

(22:52):
I just can't believe that there's noloyalty in sports. Maybe I'm just
you know, I know I'm naive, but what the hell I am?
Who I am? And I justI can't believe that he would Troy Dan
and should have just said, hey, I really appreciate the offer, but
I can't leave after five months.But he's a snake man. The guy's
a fraud and you should be happy, Like Softie said that he's leaving Washington.

Booth Mine was pretty much a ten. And basically I've heard these stories from
Softy about how he wasn't a goodfit before Dave spoke about that on the
air, But it just I didn'tthink anything like that would happen though,

(25:30):
when somebody just took the job fivemonths ago. Yeah, I was.
I was pretty surprised. And bythe way, before we get into that,
why does Nebraska seem to need toraid the state of Washington for their
athletic directors? Because you've had TroyDan and now leaving to go to Nebraska,
and then what was it about adecade ago Bill Moose in twenty seventeen,
Yeah, Bill Moose left from Wazooto go and take the eighty job

(25:52):
at Nebraska. So you know,to the people in Nebraska, could you
please like maybe look somewhere else sowe don't have to continue to fill vacancies
out here in the in the beautifulstate of Washington. But back to your
question, Yeah, I was.I was pretty surprised, mostly just because
of the time frame, Like ifthis has come up a year from now,
I don't think it would be thatmuch of a surprise because the you

(26:15):
know, the tie ins that hehas to that area of the country,
they make a lot of sense asto why that job would be of interest
to to someone like Troy Dannon. But being on the job for less than
six months, saying what he saidat the introductory press conference when he said
that he hoped that this was thelast time he would move and this would

(26:37):
be his, you know, permanentjob for the rest of his career.
To then leave within six months, that that's the stunning part to me.
Not so much that he left fora job that's more in the area where
he's got history and and has backgroundand grew up and all that, but
more just the idea that you wouldconsider within six months and the amount of

(27:00):
turmoil that's happened in this department insix months to just up and leave,
and with an open basketball coaching search, that's the stunning part to me.
When he took the job in October, Troy dan And said, the future
has never been brighter for Husky athletics. And I am humbled to steward the
next chapter in your storied history ofa short chapter. That chapter was about

(27:26):
six pages maybe, but I justdon't know what Nebraska found so appealing in
Troy Dannon. Well, and italso speaks to you know, again as
we were talking with Softy earlier, you know, the perception of what this
department, in this program is rightnow is not I mean, it's not
greata take away. What's happened onthe field. We're going to the national

(27:48):
championship Game, an incredible accomplishment forwhat they did. But then they lose
their football coach, they fired theirbasketball coach, and now they're going to
be on their third AD and orsecond AD in six months. That's not
And after all of the chaos fromlast summer of the destruction of the PAC
twelve, what Washington's role was andthat happening, what President Anomri Casse's role

(28:15):
was and that happening, it justpaints a really I think poor perception in
the broad scheme looking at it,you know, nationally of where Washington is
is at right now. Yes,they're going to reap the rewards of the
financial windfall that will come with movingto the Big ten, But how does
that look if all that everyone seesis chaos at this point? Oh,

(28:37):
that that's all it is over there? Two O six two eight six nine
five ninety five year reaction to TroyDan and leaving Washington and going to Nebraska.
Let's go to Jack from kent Heyexactly. Yeah, Hello, hello
Jeff, how you doing now?In that chapter was actually an a Cliptono
version, a bridge version here atyou doubt, but I just wanted to

(29:00):
know it used to be saying itwas good for the goose is good for
the gander. And I just wantedto make a point about the student athletes.
I don't want to hear not nerya mention about the transferred portal or
nil with these kids making their choices, because we have an ad an actual
administrator, not even the coach, leaving after five months. And that's the

(29:22):
point right there. I hear alot of people complaining about how the kids
are making money and how to transferportal is ruining the game. And here
we go with a supposed leader leavingafter five months. It's ridiculous. I
was not surprised, and you dubstudents and their fans. They have an
inflated sense of self. If thisdon't bring them back down to earth,

(29:44):
if the last six months to theyear don't bring them back down to earth,
and let them know they're not betterthan anybody else. I don't know
what would thank you guys, allright, Jack, thanks for the call.
Yeah, it's a lot of fairpoints there. But it's not just
you, Dub, it's it's everyevery school now, it's it's happening everywhere.
And uh, but fair point,I mean five months. That's the

(30:07):
thing that bothers me the most.Like, like, let's say, Okay,
he wasn't a good fit, andthis is gonna be a good day
for Washington because they're gonna have abetter replacement than Troy Dana could ever be
as an ad here at Washington. And maybe Danan'll do a good job at
Nebraska, even though I hope hefails miserably. But it's just that part
of it, that personal part ofit. To me, You just people

(30:30):
don't shouldn't do that. People shouldn'tleave after five months. They just shouldn't.
And I suppose he's gonna make Iheard the Chuck and Bucky and I
don't even know who they were talkingto, but it sounded like somebody who
knew what he was talking about. So Dana making a million at Washington,
And then trev Alberts was making onepoint seven million at Nebraska, the man
that Dan's replacing. And by theway, while I'm at it, I

(30:52):
hate it. I absolutely hate itwhen people leave their alma maters and go
somewhere else. Okay, So TroyDanon when I was doing the research on
his Wikipedia page, which you knowchanged a little bit this morning when he
took the Nebraska job. So he'sa student at Northern Iowa and then he
was the ad at Northern Iowa andthen he left to go to Tulane.

(31:14):
Okay, so you know, okay, well Tulane is that to move up
from Northern Iowa? I suppose, but it says, damn alma mater.
It's his alma mar trev Alberts. He was a star football player at Nebraska.
So what do you do? Lastweek he abruptly left and took a
job at A and M. Youknow why, because they gave more money.
Is it really? I mean,is it cooler to be in college
station than it is at Nebraska? That's you're alma mater? Dude? What

(31:37):
the hell? I know, I'mnaive, I get it, but it
bugs men being naive and you know, loyal and someone who thinks that we're
back in the nineteen seventies anymore fora second. So you're saying your argument
is they mocking me? Yes,I am. If you were the if
you were the athletic director at WashingtonState, Yeah, let's say, and

(32:01):
the opportunity came up to be theathletic director at UCLA, and you would
make four times the salary you weremaking at Washington State. Take it.
And you got to live in LAand you got a membership at LA Country
Club out of it, and yougot to play free golf all the time.
Jim, you would say you neverlive in downtown Ritzville, in downtown
Los Angeles. Wow, yeah,I would, I would. Okay,

(32:24):
So but okay, let me justgive you a quick example. When I
worked at the PI, that wasmy dream job. If Sports Illustrated come
calling, Washington Post, New YorkTimes, I mean they didn't come calling,
but if they had, if theyhadn't offered me twice what I was
making it, the PI or tojust said no, I just would,
like, you know, okay,go after Pat Chun if you want,
which sounds like what Washington might do, because and I agree with Softy you,

(32:46):
I mean, he'd be a goodcandidate Kyle Smith, great candidate,
but come on, man, Imean, those guys, even if they
get offered great contracts at Washington, they wouldn't really leave Washington State to go
to walk Washington, would they?Yes, they would. No, there's
nothing. They might think twice aboutit, but there's no Jim, there's

(33:07):
no loyalty in college athletics anymore.I know, But I want loyalty.
I don't want care. I wantloyalty back. I want someone to show
some damn loyalty, show some integrity. No, there's a difference between dan
and to fail at Nebraska or doyou. I don't care. I don't
care about Washington. I don't careabout Washington. You got to remember I'm
Switzerland. I'm neutral. I hateboth parties. Okay, I went to

(33:28):
Central Okay, so you gotta remember. I don't care either way. But
I don't care if he succeeds orfails at Nebraska. But I don't think
that's an integrity question. If allof a sudden, Kyle Smith makes the
jump and goes and takes the UBjob if he's been offered it, or
Pat Chun makes the move across thestate to Washington, I think you can
call it into question a little bitthe integrity of Troy Dan and making the

(33:51):
move because of the timing, becauseit's only been six months. But if
you look at what God, let'suse Pat Chun as the example. Let's
say Washington comes and says Pat wantsyou to come over. You'll get a
chance to be back in the BigTen. You didn't get the Ohio State
job, so now you get theopportunity here at UDB. You can't question
his integrity in that situation because lookat what he did to Steward Wazoo through

(34:14):
the chaos of what's happened in thelast few years. See it through.
Then he's seen it through. It'snot through, he's seen it through to
a to a point of resolution rightnow, and then what happens over the
next two years is just going tobe more chaos essentially. But he's gotten
them to a point of they havea football schedule, they have a place
to play for basketball, and alltheir other sports moving forward, You've gotten

(34:37):
to a place where you can reasonablysay, hey, I've done what I
needed to do here to create stabilityin the short term, and while we
wait for the rest of college sportsto figure out it's stuff and move forward
with likely changes in the future.Well, we at least have them stable,
and I can now move on andtake on my next challenge. So

(34:57):
that's I don't think you can callinto the question the ENTI already of someone
like that in that situation if youare, if you're they're looking for what
could be another opportunity down the road. Well, you live in a different
world than I do. And Ilove you, Booth, but I'm not
I'm not on board with any ofwhat you just said there, Like you
can't you can't go from a rivalschool to your biggest rival. Marv Harshman

(35:17):
did it? Why not? Youcan't do that? Nick Baron did it?
Why not? I know? Wellyou just in my world, you
can't do that two o six twoeight six nine five ninety five. You
can also Texas at four nine fourfive one. I don't know why I'm
getting so dan worked up about this, but your calls, your texts coming
up next to Troy Dan and leavingWashington to go to Nebraska's Jim Moore with
Tim Booth in for Puck Sports Radioninety three point three KJR FM. If

(35:42):
you're just getting up or haven't heardthe news Troy Dan and the Huskies AD
is taking the athletic director job atNebraska, and the Huskies have released an
official statement. Tim you've got thatstatement there, yes, from President Autom
mariek Housing saying this is deeply disappointing, wanting to the universe, has committed

(36:07):
to the welfare of an entire individual, understand the need to make choices based
on what's best for one's family. We wish Toroy well and then says that
we've seen time and again how Huskiescompete and win on the national stage,
and we are grateful for the strongsupport of Husky Nation who have positioned us
so well for the future. Andthen she specifically mentions Jed Fish joining the

(36:30):
group of talented coaches they are makingthey are They did say that Aaron O'Connell,
the Deputy a D and Chief operatingofficer, will be the interim ady,
so she will probably be the onewho finishes off the men's basketball higher
assuming they don't move as quickly asNebraska did and filling it's it's eighty vacancy.

(36:50):
So yeah, kind of kind ofthe typical statement that you would you
appreciate the tone that you delivered, that you like the slight bit of sarcasm
with it, Yeah, yeah, detected that. Yeah, I mean,
it's what It's what any administrator isgoing to say in a situation like this,
especially especially one that's so has becomeso heavily involved in athletics, because
there's been a lot of decisions inthe last you know, nine to ten

(37:15):
months that have fallen under her purview, which will affect Washington if I mean
affects everything, affects the future ofthe PAC twelve and or what was the
future of the PAC twelve and withthe school moving forward to the Big Ten
that's fallen under her watch and herin a way, her legacy is kind
of tied into the success of thismove for Washington to the Big Ten that

(37:38):
it does pencil out and they arefinancially solvent and they are financially stable moving
forward rather than trying to stick aroundand make what was the PAC twelve work
in the future. So this isthis is a big deal for her,
This is a big deal for theuniversity that they've now lost their athletic director
and they need they need to getit right this next time around. There's

(37:59):
no question She started out so wellwith being deeply disappointed, and I had
higher hopes for the rest of herstatement. You were hoping she was just
gonna rip him for having no loyalty. Yeah, I mean, or anything
like that. I mean, shedoesn't wish him well, she doesn't wish
him well. Why do you?Why do you always have to say that

(38:19):
she can't possibly wish him well.I wish she would. She had said,
you know, I know I'm supposedto say I'm gonna wish Troy well,
but I hope he burns in hellor something. Wow, something along
those lines. That got that gotthat got a little extreme there? Did
it too far? Probably a littletoo far? Yeah, okay, how
about let me soften it up.Then I hope he has nothing but failure
there in Lincoln. I hope,I hope. I hope every Washington team

(38:40):
kicks the crap out of Nebraska movingforward in the Big Ten. You could
have said something like that, that'dhave been fine. Is that a burning
in hell? That's a little extremethere, Jim, And you're not even
a Husky. I don't really meanthat, but you know, figuratively speaking,
Yeah, I just I don't know. I just will hope that Troy
did. I mean, he's takenover a program. Matt Rue was five

(39:00):
and seven there this year, andso maybe Matt Ruhle will get it turned
around. I mean, Nebraska usedto be a big thing in college football
circles, but not so much anymore. Maybe Troy Dannon, you know,
will get things turned around there whenhe takes the job there at Nebraska.
There's also something called the March Madnessthat's going on the NCAA Tournament. If

(39:21):
you need help filling out your bracket, we think we've got the right guy
for you. He's coming up next. It's Ian McMillan, senior editor and
fan sided, the host of theBacon Bets podcast. This guy knows what
he's talking about in gambling circles, and we'll catch up with him next.
