Speaker 1 (00:00):
Do right.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
We are through the first hour of the NFL Draft.
Seven picks in the first hour, so moving slightly ahead
of pace. Here on ninety three to three KJA AIRFM, Softy,
Dick and Hugh. We're hanging out till seven and then
Ian fern S Robber Rang takeover at seven o'clock.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
You, my friend, are going nowhere. You'll be here all
night long. I love the draft all night I love
the draft.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
This is it's like the Super Bowl. Yeah right, you know,
the first the first ten to fifteen we'll call it.
Eighteen picks.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yep, yep, man, It's just there's a juice to it.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Well, let me first of all, thank a bunch of
our sponsors are in our foundation specialists Frostpreed, cors Light,
Fox thirteen, Queen and Beer Hall as well for being
involved with our coverage this year. You miss anything, check
out the website podium We go Panthers at number eight.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
First one for the Panthers. Tonight, with the eighth.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
Pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft, the Carolina
Panthers select Tete Ron McMillan, oh wide receiver Arizona.
Speaker 6 (01:05):
Tenaroa McMillan six ft four to two hundred.
Speaker 7 (01:09):
Nineteen pounds wide receiver, Arizona.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
No fade to McMillan, one pinch back corner of the.
Speaker 7 (01:18):
End zone touchdown Arizona TMAC.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
How many times have we seen him use that one hand.
Speaker 7 (01:23):
To Arizona receiver. McMillan's last two seasons were insane. He
broke out as a sophomore in twenty twenty three with
standout performances against Washington and USC. Then against Arizona State,
he exploded for two hundred and sixty six receiving yards
in all time record in the Arizona Ase rivalry. Over
the last two seasons, he averaged nearly one hundred and
ten receiving yards per game, with twelve one hundred yard
(01:46):
games and three two hundred yard games, including a three
hundred four yard four touchdown performance in the twenty twenty
four opener against New Mexico.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yeah that at Husky game.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
That was two years ago, three years ago at you
dub forty nine thirty nine loss. Uh, that was Jayden
Delora right playing for Arizona back then. Is that the
knight of the Astros game? By the way, I think
it was No.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
No. October fifteenth, twenty twenty two. Well then I think
it was the night of the Astro.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yeah, yes it was if it was seven for about
thirty two. A couple of touchdowns for Tep McMillan that day. Uh,
and then three years later he's the number eight pick
in the draft. I mean, you know what, guys, I
gotta be honest with you. Good for them because too
many teams he as, you know, draft quarterbacks and don't
give him Jack Squat to work with. And that's what
Carolina has done to Bryce Young. You know who their
(02:40):
best receiver was before it was Adam Dilan's thirty five
years old. Yeah, he had barely over six hundred yards.
He missed seven games a year ago. So thank god
they're gonna give this kid some toys to play with. Yeah,
California player of the Year in twenty twenty two. In
twenty twenty three, think about that California player right, pretty
big like that? Yeah, yeah that's not Montana. Yeah, what's
(03:01):
the number one?
Speaker 4 (03:01):
There's more No, Texas has the most the second most
high school players, uh in California. So in twenty twenty
three had the lowest drop rate of all Power five
receivers at two point one now reportedly he increased.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
If you go buy his his the satellite satellite speed charting.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
I know I said that wrong. You know a GPS
tracker and a SPI. Thank you a GPS tracker. No,
it's it's it's actually inside their shoulder pat nineteen point
eight miles an hour to twenty one point eight miles
an hour.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
So there.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Now, he may not have great technique in his start
in his forty time four or five two, I think
he plays faster than that if those numbers are accurate.
You know he's got plenty of speed, and you know
he has a volleyball background, and I think that's important
because he's he's a comp to Drake London who's at
the Falcons now, who had pl basketball at us. Both
(04:01):
of them is six foot four. So if if you
know Drake london body style and how he runs his routes,
you're looking at like a clone of his right. But
he this Tep McMillan kid from Hawaii than moved to
Orange County, big volleyball player, and I would submit I
think it helps your your hand eye volleyball if you're
in male volleyball is a big thing in southern California.
(04:24):
You get six foot five sixty six guys just killing
the ball over the top of the neck. You try
and dig that thing out that that's way harder from
a hand eye perspective, in my opinion, than anything you
have to deal with a rebound or a shot around
the rim. So I think that that hand eye coordination
it shows in his game. He's got just beautiful hands,
(04:45):
just catches balls like their pillows and so.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
And his body there's a gumby style to his body
and how he's contorts.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
He he was probably I don't want to think about this,
but he was among.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
My favorite players to scout, just because I just loved
watching him move and do his thing.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
And he's a he's a fun player. And now he's
the eighth pick of the draft.
Speaker 8 (05:06):
You know, Tomicshay said Ted didn't like to work out
and practice hard unless a scout was in attendance. Didn't
think he showed attention to detail. Did you see that
on film where he just, you know, would dog on
routes at times, or did you see a guy that
would always run hard.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
I would say it was sufficient.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
It was sufficient, and I think sufficiently well, I think
you know, if they've done their homework, then that you
know they're their question is satisfied.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Yeah, but but there's concern about a diva.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Quote in there. Now he did come.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Back and say, hey, I had bad body language, and
he said that's on me. He admitted that he had
had bad ego, said something, I've got to be better.
And so at least that stage one to sell. If
there was a problem and you say, okay, what's the
road to solving that problem? That seems to me like
that would be one of the first steps on the road.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
To solve in that problem. So but but no, you
guys are both presenting valid questions. At number eight. Pick
if he's got a sense of entitlement or what have you?
Uh uh, if there's too much of a diva quality,
I always look at and say, hey, is he a diva?
Because uh, he's not getting the ball or and and
(06:21):
that's it. That's always a selfish or or sometimes a
guy will feel like it's a diva when the offense
is doing poorly and he.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Says, look, if you throw me the ball, I'll turn
this around. All right, we gotta go to Green Bay Saints.
Number nine, let's find out, let's go to Green Bay
and the commissioner.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
With the ninth pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft,
the New Orleans Saints select Kelvin Banks, junior tackle, Texas.
Speaker 6 (06:49):
Kelvin Banks, junior offensive tackle, Texas, six and fifteen piles.
He's definitely pro ready as a run block, with very
good athleticism for his size, including a thirty two inch
vertical chop. Banks was a first team All American and
the Lombardi Award winner given to the best lineman in
college football. He could probably start it either tackle or
(07:12):
guard in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
All right, Kevin Banks, offensive tackle, Texas to the Saints
at number nine could be three potentially Texas Longhorns of
the first round. Golden Barren obviously could also go in
the first round. But guys that are dropping. Tyler Warren
still on the board at number ten. Jalen Walker is
still there from Georgia. But Kelvin Banks, you said off
(07:36):
the area is your favorite tackle.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
In this gear?
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Yeah, I just thought that there was more athleticism. Will
Campbell went number four, but I and we'll see how
it plays out, but I just think that he has
a better feet and he doesn't have the punch, but
he plays with length, he locks out and and I
just liked him better.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
And I'll tell you what I see girl men cry
Man makes me misty.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
But yeah, it's going. I mean, he just had a
really cool embrace with his mom. That was awesome.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
But anyways, for here, here's here's a note here for
I want to go about seven days Dick Vane, you
know this, Uh, Dave, you know this. Seven days ago,
the prevailing topic in the sports radio world was, Okay,
Derek Carr had a shoulder Shadure Sanders. This is where
(08:29):
he's gonna land. Shaud Sanders is going.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
To be a saint.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
It was like, h a gift from you know, man
from the heavens for Sanders that Derek Carr's injury surfaced.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
And uh now a week later, you know, we just
had the ninth pickon. Obviously you think he was going
today there, right, No, No, I didn't today. I'm I'm
just I'm just look, I think.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
That shad Sanders story is the the number one story
in in this draft. I think Travis Hunter is the
number two. So they're both. That's just my opinion and
certainly by all signs It's an opinion shared by most
that Sedur Sanders is the most enticing story in this draft.
(09:13):
And what I'm saying is is the it was like
a cress A wave there before Derek Carr injury.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
I'm gonna cut you off right there. I think we
have potentially a pick. Let's go to the podium, Jackson,
find out what's happening here with the Bears at number
ten a pivotal moment in the NFL calendar.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
It sets the stage for a thrilling season.
Speaker 6 (09:34):
Yeah, this's only gets a geek out over.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Every Let's just finish. Let's not Roger. Well, sometimes they
have other people make selections. Obviously, I have no idea
what's going on with that, so I wanted to make
sure we didn't miss anything.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
But Calvin Banks is to pick the nine.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
But just going back, yeah, yeah, I think it's like,
but hang on a second, because you're point about schaudor
that you're making about about him dropping. Chicago's not taking him,
the Niners aren't taken him, Dallas ain't taken, and Miami's
not taken, and the Cult aren't taking Atlanta, Arizona, Cincinnati, Seattle, Tampa, Bay, Denver,
it's Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Anybody can trade. Sure. I'm just saying if there is
going to be a selection of.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
Right, yeah, and and and the next one were you
say might be obviously be twenty one at Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
But I just think it's interesting for me. We didn't
hear anything about the Saints taking Sanders. Then the Derek
Carr news came out, and then for a week everybody's saying,
well is going to the Saints, And then these past
few days it's like that momentum crested and everybody kind
of the word got out. Hey, no, no, no, there's
(10:39):
enough questions.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
The Saints don't want that smoke with new coach, uh right,
Kellen Moore, so trender. I just think it's an interesting
little asterisk to this pick with the Saints.
Speaker 8 (10:52):
Yeah, we've got two tight ends out there. Yeah, and
what eight more picks to go?
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Right?
Speaker 8 (10:58):
How how would you trade up for Tyler Warren?
Speaker 3 (11:01):
You nine more picks? Bears on the clock now at
ten more picks?
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Yeah, And that's the thing. The Bears are sitting here
right now. They could get Tyler Warren and pair him
up with everything else they have offensively. I mean that
seems like a no brainer for me for Chicago.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Played in that kind of weather at Penn State, no
problem playing in Chicago.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
I mean, my god, are you kidding me? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:20):
I would say, you know, three four picks, there's there's
enough bus at every position right that you know, when
you start talking about the costs associated with going up,
I know you want me to say go up to ten.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
No, not just no. The question was the question.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
The Bears at number ten, here we go, let's get
the pick from the commissioner.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
Yesterday, the NFL family lost a true legend, Bears Hall
of Famer Steve McMichael.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
My heart is.
Speaker 5 (12:00):
With the McMichael family during this incredibly difficult time.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Missy. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
Mongo's remarkable contributions to the game and the community will
never be forgotten. His legacy will continue to inspire generations
to come. Fifty years ago, with the fourth pick in
the nineteen seventy five NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected
(12:30):
one of Steven Michael's teammates and closest friends, Walter Payton,
running back Jackson State. Walter would go on to rush
for nearly seventeen thousand yards and one hundred and ten
touchdowns over thirteen seasons, all with the Chicago Bears. As
(12:57):
you heard earlier, the NFL continues to honor Sweetness not
only for his performance and excellence on the field, but
also his commitment to give back to his community with
the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. So
with the tenth pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft,
(13:22):
the Chicago Bears select Coaston Loveland, tight end Michigan.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Wow. Wow, how about that?
Speaker 2 (13:29):
We just got done speculating that maybe the Bears would
take a tight end.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
We just had the wrong guy.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Yeah, what kind of odds would I have had to
give you to say that Colston Loveland would have been drafted?
Speaker 3 (13:39):
So far?
Speaker 2 (13:40):
As ty Warren, the Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year
as a senior in high school fifty six catches, five
eighty two, five touchdowns six six two forty eight. But
I mean Tyler Warren was the big toy at tight
end and he just got bumped by Colston Lovelin.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Well, they're different players and the Bears. We did hear
some reports had Loveland higher, most of them had Warren higher.
I personally had Warren higher, but that's it's what flavor
do you want of ice cream? Colson Loveland is like
taking a receiver, a six two hundred and fifteen pound
(14:16):
wide receiver and just elongating him proportionally to a package
at sixty six to forty eight. He just runs right
like a receiver, huge cats radius. He was all stayed
in basketball at Idaho, and you know, tough background. He
(14:36):
branded calves early in the morning before going to school,
growing up on a farm, and and there's a toughness
to him.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Hey that's my ball, Go get the ball. Type of
a guy.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Now, I would just say as a tight end, you know,
I think Mike Homgren would have taken Loveland over over
Ty Warren based on the conversation, because hey, we want
the tight end to block a little well.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
I don't think it's a lack of willingness or effort.
I think it's just his frame doesn't allow him to
be dominant in the running game like Warren has the
chance to do. Because Warren's just a bully and you know,
kind of a Gronkowski. So I would say this, if
you haven't seen these guys play, think of of Ty
(15:20):
warn is exactly like Gronkowski six six two sixty playing bullyball.
And but in your in your mind's eye as you
watch Groundkowski, he's just he just kind of a little
bit slower, but he's just so big that that's how
he wins. Colson levelin is more like a thin Travis
kelce like, you know, like a receiving tight end.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
You know, big dude, great catch radius and.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
And and so think, think take eight ten pounds off
Travis kelcey.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
And that's the.
Speaker 8 (15:51):
Big investment for a tight end because this is only
the third in the last decade to go in the
top ten. Kyle Pitts and TJ. Hawkinson. So you have
a pretty decent hit in Hawkinson. And yeah, and Kyle
pitt so not the same hit rate as a running back.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Well, they're gonna pair him up with DJ Moore and
Roma Dunza and DeAndre Swift and Caleb Williams. Cole Comet's
gonna be a backup now. But uh, I mean the
Bears are kind of building something.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Man.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
They went out and got uh Tooney and Dolman and
Jonah Jackson.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
They got three new starters on the offensive line. Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
They brought in obviously some defensive linemen as well in
free agency Grady Jarrett when he got released by Atlanta.
But Niners are on the clock now at number eleven. Jackson,
you want to keep it here, you want to get
a break.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
What do you want to do? You guys?
Speaker 2 (16:31):
All right, we're gonna break. We'll come back and find
out what the Niners do at number eleven. We got
seven picks to go before the Hawks on the clock
at number eighteen.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
And there's some pretty damn big names left.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Baby next on ninety three three KJRFM. All right, we
are back here inside the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. NFL
Draft continues right here on ninety three three KJRFM.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
We are through pick number ten.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
The latest pick, Colston Lovelin tied end went to Michigan
with the Bearers at number ten in the draft. That
means the Niners now on the clock will get their
pick in just a matter of seconds. We are getting close,
boys and girls, creeping up, just seven picks away from
the Seahawks now on the clock at number eighteen. And
in case you're just tuning in right now, the big
news of the first round so far is the Jaguars
(17:19):
and Browns.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Making that trade.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Jaggs took the Browns number two pick and took Travis Hunter,
and the Browns at number five took Mason Graham out
of Michigan with the Jaguars old pick. Let's find out
what the Niners do at number eleven. To the compodium,
we go and Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Speaker 5 (17:34):
With the eleventh pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft,
the San Francisco forty nine ers select Mikeel Williams, defensive end, Georgia.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
All right, Mikel Williams, defensive end out of Georgia. We
could have a couple of ed rushers from Georgia. Go
here in the first round, five sacks, nine tackles for loss,
forty starts overall for Georgia.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
And you know who doesn't like this guy at all?
By the way, Dick Mikel Williams.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Steve Sarkisian hates his guts because four of his five
sacks came against Longhorns, by the way, including the SEC Championship.
He's a young guy's only twenty years old. What do
you make of the newest Niner?
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Good pick? Because they lost a lot of guys on
their defensive side.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
Yeah, and I think when they've been at their best,
they've just had a really devastating front line and they can.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Get pass rush with four. This guy is is at
sixty five to sixty five.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
I think this is a blend.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
There's a little bit of production here, but I think
that there's a potential element to because this guy, just
his frame is athleticism has exceeded his productivity.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (18:42):
Yeah, I think it fits for San Francisco. I don't
know how great at player he is, but you're exactly right.
I mean, when has San Francisco been a super Bowl
caliber team when they have a front four that is
dominant and you know this guy would be it would
be one that would fit that mold right.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Well, they lost. They lost thirteen and a half sacks
last year. Floyd took off, Elite, Collins took off. They
lost hard Rave, they lost Charvarius Ward, the corner, they
lost to Funga, the safety, they lost green Law. I mean,
holy crap, guys, they lost a buttload on the defensive
(19:17):
side of the ball. And I mean they could have
taken Tyler Ward as well. They could have replaced George
Kittle's on the final year of his deal. By the way,
he's thirty two in October. What is going on with
Tyler Warren in this draft? All right, let's find out.
Dallas now number twelve, let's go back to Green Bay.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
We're cooking here.
Speaker 5 (19:34):
With the twelfth pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft,
the Dallas Cowboys select Tyler Booker, guard Alabama.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Tyler Booker, Alabama just went to the Cowboys at number twelve.
Then Jerry Jones said he had something cooking up his sleep.
By the way, something big? Is this what he was
talking about? Well, he's big. I don't know, man, that's this? Yeah, yeah,
big play on word. Tyler Booker goes to the Dallas
Cowboys at number twelve out of Alabama, and that means
(20:06):
the Seahawks are five picks away. Some big name players
on the board, including Tyler Warren.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
By the way, he's not even the first Tyler to.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Now, including Jalen Walker from Georgia. He's still there overall.
So let's get a quick thought on Tyler Booker and
then we'll start to kind of talk about what's on
the board for the Seahawks.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
You go heavy handed dude, big dude, six foot five
that's tall for a guard, three hundred and twenty five pounds,
very strong, technically sound in all respects, really good feel
for passing off stunts and what have you. Well well coached,
and I would just say that one there's only one
(20:47):
checkbox that for me is is shaded very light gray
and yet to be fulfilled. When I see him play
at the second level, there are other tackles that have
just better feed and more agility when they're trying to
make blocks at the second level. I mean, there's a
lot of technically sound aspects to him, but it's.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
Just maybe lack of elite quickness.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
But I'll tell you uh and talking to sources high
at Alabama, he he uh rave up raving about him
as a leader, as a nasty like exactly the kind
of guy you want, you know, really good human being
everywhere other than between the white lines. And then he
(21:32):
gets really nasty when he plays football. So a lot
to like here. Loan question is just the again, the
foot quickness.
Speaker 8 (21:39):
Would he have been your favorite offensive lineman take for
Seattle and play him at guard?
Speaker 4 (21:46):
Well, I like Kelvin Banks, and I think you could
move Kelvin Banks in and and uh, you know maybe
at some point depending on what you do contract wise
with Charles Crossed, I think I think there would have
been more versatility there. I mean I made that point,
you know before today on my feelings about Kelvin Banks.
I liked him better Will than Will Campbell, who went
(22:07):
number four to England, as all the mocks had predicted Miami.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
And now on the clock at thirteen, so the Seahawks
guys are six picks away. So I'm just gonna start
just firing off some names of best available.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
I mean, we know the way this works.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
I'm certain the Seahawks are feverishly working the phones, trying
to move down right now to see if they can
get out of that pick at number eighteen eventually. But
and if they do make a selection, it will be
none of the following names.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Okay, none of the following names.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Jalen Walker linebacker, Georgia Tyler Warren Penn State tight end,
Will Johnson Michigan corner. Imagine pairing him up with Devin
Witherspoon for a while. Jeddaie Barron, Texas corner, Derek Harmon,
the big tackle from Oregon. It was he of the
transfer from Michigan State. I believe he was James Pierce
Edge rusher Tennessee, Walter Nolan defensive tackle hole miss g
(22:57):
Hot Campbell from Alabama, Maxwell Harro from Kentucky. How about yeah,
how about I'm not saying that. How about how about
Mike Green who had how many sacks?
Speaker 3 (23:08):
Seventeen?
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Marshall last year, Amar Hampton, the big running back from
Carolina that nobody talks about because.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Of Ashton Jenny. I mean, we're sitting here six picks away.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Is there starting to kind of be a little bit
of a maybe wish list that might become realistic here?
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Well, you know, I think the Gray's abel would be
a guy that that if if I had a gun
in my head, I think that they would go hit there.
But you know, they they've been want to have surprising players,
often on the defensive side of the ball, you know,
and Jeehodd Campbell is is is clearly the the premiere
(23:45):
and perhaps only worthy of the first round linebacker. Do
you not like Terse? I mean, Terse Knight was a
nice player, but but he upgrade Maybe that's a big upgrade.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
You know.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
You you you mentioned several edge rushers. There Will Campbell
or excuse me, uh, the corner from Hot Campbell.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
You can't talking about no, no, no, no no.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Will Johnson Johnson J Yeah, I mean there's Will, there's
Campbell's I got to come. I don't so, but Will Johnson,
you know, was recruited by Mike McDonald and and you
know the whole Michigan connection there. And I do think
that the corner is a a not an emerging need
(24:29):
because because it's been there all the offseason, but for
me personally as an analyst and and really just deep
diving it, it's just kind of the more I've thought
it through, I thought man.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
Corners a pretty big POSI.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
You need you've only really got one that you love,
right Because Willan's got one more year left in this contract. Obviously,
he's been I think a disappointment since his rookie year.
I think he's kind of gotten a little worse since
that first year. But yeah, I mean, Devin Witherspoon's gonna
get that second contract most certainly, and be great to
pair him up with somebody. Get a Batman to Robin,
don't you think, Dick?
Speaker 3 (25:04):
I think so.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
I think that makes the most you're just looking at
Mike McDonald and John Schneider. I think I think they
drool over drafting cornerbacks. I just think that's probably the
most likely position that they take if they go at eighteen.
You know my wish list, but it's like asking for
a you know, trip, a world cruise.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
I love Tyler Warrens. Is not gonna happen.
Speaker 8 (25:25):
That's who I want, And I just don't think. I
don't think the Hawks will. I don't think certainly don't
think the Hawks will trade up for him. Maybe if
he falls to them, that's a different story. But I
mean it's just I see defense, defense, defense, because until
they prove me wrong and go and go another way,
I'm just gonna believe that John Schneider, Mike McDonald gonna
keep drafting defense in the first one.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Well there's gonna be And look it's not a terrible
idea because the defense here is pretty good.
Speaker 8 (25:48):
But yeah, the defense is better than the offense, which
is my point.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
I would like to add to the offense. Please, But
they also have ten picks.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
You know, you get maybe the best corner in the
draft in Will Johnson.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
I'm just speculating.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
If it does come down that way, and you're and
you're locked and loaded for you know, a few years
with him and Devin Witherspoon. I know a lot of
people want to see an offensive alignment just period, end
of story. Don't care who it is. Get me a
damn lineman at number eighteen, and there's just no way.
Those guys are thinking like yeah no, and just picking
up on Devin Witherspoon. As I said earlier, if you
(26:21):
take all NFL snaps, sixty two percent of them, almost
sixty three percent, there's three receivers or more, which which
forces you into nickel. Devin Witherspoon doesn't force you, but
teams generally counter with nickel. So last year Devin Witherspoon,
who was drafted, when he came up on the pullman
and they said, they said cornerback, but he's a nickel.
(26:44):
You had as a wide corner last year, three hundred
and ninety snaps, remember that number, Dick Okay as a
slot corner five point thirty one and in the box
one p fifty two, So you got six hundred and
eighty three snaps not at corner and then actually throw
another twelve at free safety. Uh, just three hundred and
(27:05):
ninety out of I want to I gotta filter the
special teams out of there.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Yeah, what are you doing? What are you a rookie?
For goods?
Speaker 4 (27:15):
Just three hundred and ninety out of eleven hundred and
three snaps were at corner. So you could almost say,
to quote a Brett Favre line when when he was
a rookie, they say, what you what's a nickel?
Speaker 2 (27:28):
And and they and they said, are you are you
kidding me? He said, no, I don't know what a
nickel is. It's just well, when you take a linebacker
out and you put in a dB and he says,
who cares?
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Right?
Speaker 4 (27:38):
Tdy Deppmer tells that story much better than me. But
in any event, if you kind of think in those regards,
he's a linebacker, Devin Witherspoon is a linebacker more than
he is a corner.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
So so in.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
That regard, yeah, no, I got you. All right, let's
go to the podium. Let's find out with the Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
Now do it. Number thirteen, here's the commissioner.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
With the thirteenth picks in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft.
The Miami Dolphins select Kenneth Grant. Defensive tackle Michigan.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
All right, there you go.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
So the second Michigan defensive lineman in the last four
excuse me, last, where did Mason Graham go?
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Five?
Speaker 2 (28:20):
So the last eight picks and the third third Wolverine
in the last eight picks? How about that? Mason Graham
went to the Browns at five, Colston Lovelin went to
the Bears at ten, and now Kenny Grant defensive tackle
Michigan goes to the Dolphins Hue at number thirteen.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
How about that? Will?
Speaker 4 (28:37):
And I think now we should talk about different defensive tackles.
Most defensive tackles who go in the first round are
considered three technique guys. Three technique is simply a comment
about and it's a terminology for you where you're aligned
on the field. And if you're on the outside shade
of the guard, you're a three technique.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
You're manning usually the B gap and uh and and
then you you have an there's an explosiveness to you. Now,
if you're a nose tackle, you line up on a
zero technique in a three four and a one technique
outside shade of the center.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
Both of those are on the center and you and
you commonly just refer to them as nose tackles, even
if you're playing a forty front and so Kenneth Grant
is a nose tackle. This guy is a zero technique
or a one technique if you play an even then
he can occasionally plead on the guard. But he has
the physical attributes at six two ideal nose tackle type
(29:37):
of dimensions. But here's why he's getting drafted in the
top half of the first round. He has nose tackle dimensions,
but he has the quickness of many threate three techs,
and so that combination is why he's here. And you know,
in that sense, just think of videvea.
Speaker 8 (29:55):
Yeah, earlier than and work, a lot of people had
him going to Jim Harborough way down at the Chargers pick.
But you know, Dave, to your point on drafting cornerbacks,
the Seahawks have made thirty draft picks since the twenty
twenty one draft. Six have been corners. Twenty percent of
their draft there's been cornerbacks. And yet we're sitting here
on the air, rightfully, so saying we only got one cornerback,
(30:17):
right They've used twenty percent of their drafts on corners.
So I mean, do you want to go back to
that well again when you've got ok corners in Kobe
Bryant and Rique Woolen and but you know with a
spoons really did only dude?
Speaker 2 (30:30):
You got Kobe's pretty much at least if you go
by last year, he's extrictly a safety.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
R Trey Brown. I mean, they're just and so he's
a converted guy. But yeah, Trey Brown, you know, smaller guy.
They're just guys. Yeah, of spoon well yet and he
had two six rounders last year. Pritch it. And isn't
Trey Brown starting for somebody else right now? Forty nine ers?
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Yeah, they're just taking whatever scraps fall off the table.
Colts at fourteen, we're getting close to the Hawks. Let's
find out what the Colts do. Yeah's go to Green
Bay and the commissioner with.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
The fourteenth pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft,
the Indianapolis Colt select Tyler Warren.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
Tight end penn staint.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
You know what, he should have added a son of
a bitch for all Seahawks fans out there, including.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Me, Tyler Warren.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
There you go, falls to fourteen to the Colts, one
hundred and four catches twelve hundred and thirty three yards
eight touchdowns, also ran twenty six times for two to
eighteen and four scores, and he also threw the ball
six times for sixteen yards and a touchdown. The game
against usc was the big one for him a year
ago when he blew up seventeen for two twenty four
(31:38):
in a touch. So quick thought on Tyler Warren as
the Hawks are now four picks away from making their will.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Well, he was well mocked to Indianapolis, so it's not
a surprise. But you talk about his versatility. Hell, he
had sixty snaps in the backfield, not counting the forty
something that he had at quarterback.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
But in my mind, he's like Gronkowski.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
He doesn't have the speed of a Colson Loveland, but
he's bigger. He's two hundred sixty pounds, he's sixty six,
and he just plays bully ball. He had and I'm
not even exaggerating, he had more one handed catches than
he had drops. He just had a beautiful athlete in
that regard, and in a huge package. So yeah, you
(32:24):
always got you always want those you want guys in
a huge Havack package.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
We've got a break with that. That's a great time
to go to a commercial.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Tyler Warren just went to the Colts at fourteen, Atlanta, Arizona, Cincinnati,
and then the Hawks. We're getting close live on ninety
three to three KJRFM.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Welcome to the NFL Draft.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Now back to the Virginia Mason Athletics Center and the
twenty twenty five NFL Draft and brought to you by
cors Life, by R and R Foundation specialist the Queen
Anne beer Hall, and by Fox thirteen on Sports Radio
ninety three point three kJ R.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
All right, guys, we're back here at to you Virginia
Mason Athletics Center, twenty twenty five first run of the
NFL Draft continues. The Falcons are on the clock right
now at number fifteen. Just to get your real caught
up quickly, cam Ward, no surprise, Tennessee number one. Jaguars
and Browns made a trade and the Jaguars took Travis
Hunter at number two. The Giants went with Admiral Carter Patriots,
(33:21):
Will Campbell tackle LSU. The Browns then took Mason Graham
out of Michigan at number five with a Jaguars old pick,
and then Pete Carroll ran to the podium, sprint into
the podium, drooling all over himself, and took Ashton Jenny
from Boise State at number six. Jets Goo armand Membo
offensive tackle Missouri Carolina took Tep mcmill at number eight,
(33:41):
Saints took Calvin Banks out of Texas to tackle at nine.
The Bears took Colston Loveland tight end Michigan. At ten,
Niners Willett Williams edge rusher Georgia, Tyler Booker offensive tackle
Bama went to the Cowboys at twelve. The Dolphins took
Kenny Grant from Michigan, and the colt just took Tyler
Warren tight end from Penn State at number fourteen. That
(34:04):
means the Falcons are on the clock at fourteen. That
means the Seahawks are only four picks away. We're gonna
have that pick for you alive right here. But from
Fox Sports, our friend Rob Rang stepping by to say
hello before he takes over with again for an ass
at seven.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
How are you.
Speaker 9 (34:19):
Man, I'm doing very well. Good evening, just guy, you too.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
So anything surprised you so far about what you're seeing
in the first round?
Speaker 9 (34:26):
Well, you know, for the most part, it's pretty much
gone to chalk.
Speaker 10 (34:29):
I think that I say that my mock draft is
absolutely torn to hell because I had the New York
Giants taking shad Or Sanders. I know that's not a
popular selection, but I do believe that he is a
quarterback that's gonna wind up either going in the first
round and specifically to the New York Giants. I think
that it's a really nice fit there. But otherwise I
(34:49):
think that as far as the positions, I think the
NFL teams are basically like going down through the supermarket
check styles. They're basically just kind of, you know, checking
the boxes of all the different positions concerns if they
had I haven't seen any massive reaches in my opinion,
but I'm kind of curious to see who.
Speaker 9 (35:07):
I guess I would say the tight ends.
Speaker 10 (35:09):
Seeing Coaston Levlin go before Tyler Warren was a little
bit of a surprise, but still those are two clubs
that need help with the tight endsident.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Well, the Seahawks are just three picks away, waiting for
Atlanta and then Arizona Cincinnati. Let's find out what the
Falcons do right now. Let's go to the podium. The
Atlanta Falcons at number fifteen.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
Here's the commissioner Falcons first rounder.
Speaker 5 (35:29):
With the fifteen pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft,
the Atlanta Falcons selegd Jalen Walker, defensive end, Georgia.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
Okay, so he's gonna stay in Georgia.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Right play for Atlanta, Jalen Walker linebacker slash defensive end
out of Georgia as a Falcon at number fifteen. So
we can talk about Walker guys Arizona, Cincinnati, and then
the Seahawks. So let's do a little hybrid here and
let's start with here's take on Walker and then Rob,
I want to get your thoughts on some best available
for the Seahawks at eighteen.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Go, well, I think it's interesting he's been categorized as
an edge he's played linebacker. He's playing that apparently now
coveted number eleven. That do you see a number of
these front seven.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Guys that, but you don't see an edge guy at
exactly six foot one even in two forty three.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
So I think that you're going to bring him on.
You're gonna play a scheme where you're having him move
around off ball in the a gap, mugging up a
lot of what some defensive coordinator some term psycho packages
where there's all kinds of guys just walking and amoba
(36:40):
defense where you're not sure where he's coming. But a
violent football player, twitchy strong, you know, just kind of
plays it with alpha dog mentality. But I can't remember
in twenty seven years a guy who's classified as an
edge going in the first round at exactly six to one.
So he's very unique player, dynamic football player. But you say, okay,
(37:04):
what it's the falcon's job now to say, okay, he's
a tweetter type guy.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
Let's make that a positive.
Speaker 4 (37:10):
Let's use his versatility as opposed to making the tweener
aspect of him a negativity. Well, Rob, let's talk about
then what the Seahawks are looking at Arizona Cincinnati and
the Hawks three picks away, lock and happen between now
and then. But if you're John Schneider Mike McDonald, who
do you think they have their eye on right now?
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Well?
Speaker 10 (37:28):
I do think that there's gonna be a couple of
defensive players that might be very intriguing to them. Certainly
the cornerback Will Johnson. You know, he was viewed as
a possible top ten pick. Shamar Stewart, the edge rusher
defensive lineman from Texas A and M, again, just has
the traits that I think that you're you're gonna be
intrigued by.
Speaker 9 (37:46):
You know.
Speaker 10 (37:46):
Derek Harmon, the defensive tackle from Oregon, is another one
who is just a butt kicker in the middle of
the defensive line. I think that when you look at
the Seahawks, obviously they have some stars along the defensive line,
but at the same time, Jaron Reed, Leonard Williams, DeMarcus Lawrence,
they're all north of thirty years old, So those are
some defensive players that would make some sense. That said,
(38:06):
I know what Seahawks fans want. They want blockers. So
there's a couple of blockers out there that I think
are still very intriguing. Gray's Abel. Of course, everybody's talked
about the North d Coost State talent. Donovan Jackson is
in my opinion, the best guard in this draft class
for what the Seahawks are looking to do. He has
some tackle and guard versatility. He's very good in the
(38:27):
wide zone blocking system. So again, there's a five six
players there that I think would make an awful lot
of sense for the Seahawks if they were indeed to
make the pick at number eight.
Speaker 8 (38:38):
Two Rob If they don't go guard in the first round,
talk to me about the second third round starting caliber
interior offensive lineans. Are they available out there?
Speaker 10 (38:47):
They are As I mentioned before, Domin Jackson, I mean,
he is not a player that I see in very
many mock drafts for the first round. I think that
there is a good chance that he would be available
in the second round, and so he is one of
the guys that immediately jumps out to me. In my
final mock draft, I had that the Seas actually going
with Kelvin Banks, who of course just went off the
board here a couple of picks before. And I don't
know that it's necessarily going to be a guard. I
(39:10):
think that that Seattle may view Abe Lucas as a
possibility to move inside to guard. Of course, he's been
struggling with durability. There's some questions about Abe Lucas's ability
to be as effective in that wine zone blocking system.
Speaker 9 (39:24):
He's just a big, physical guy.
Speaker 10 (39:26):
So perhaps then the Seahawks might decide to draft a
tackle to play at that right tackle position and allow
Lucas to go inside. I know that the Seahawks are
also very very high on the upside of sa Mea
and Christian Hayes as well, and so I don't know
that this is necessarily something that the Seahawks view as
the high priority that that those of us who have
(39:48):
been watching it and believe to.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
Be Well, I'll tell you what. The Cardinals are on
the clock here at number sixteen. You know who they're
starting left guard is right now?
Speaker 9 (39:55):
I do.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
No, No, that's it. That's it joke. I never know what
his first name was.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
It's either Evan or Ethan Man, but he's their starting
left guard. So the Cardinals made a bunch of moves
on their defensive line. They got Josh Sweat, they got
Dalvin Tomlinson, they brought Kalais Campbell. I'd be fairly surprised
if they did not go offensive line with this pick
right here. So one of those targets that we had
our eyes on for the Hawks might be going to
Arizona right now. But we'll find out what they need.
(40:25):
But how about you, he started to dreaming about anybody
at at eighteen.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
If you're a Seahawk fan.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
Well, I've been fooled.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
So many times.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
I think there's a lot of def you know, an
edge rusher, if they're they're there, what uh, just because
that's the position that can potentially make the most impact.
I think you know that they're just kind of fair
to Middland on the edge right now. Boy Mafy decent,
but but I think some of the others have been
a little bit of a disappointment. So there's there's a
(40:55):
number of defensive lineman corners. I think, uh, Jehad John
Campbell is the one off ball linebacker that I think
is worthy of the first round. There's no question in
my mind. Cardinals on the clock. They're about to make
the pick at sixteen. Let's find out the Cardinals could
(41:17):
be another receiver.
Speaker 5 (41:17):
With the sixteenth pick in the twenty twenty five NFL Drafts,
the Arizona Cardinal select Walter Nolan, defensive tackle Mississippi.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
Okay, there you go. How about that? I was right
about the lineman just the wrong side of the ball.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
They went out and you got all these defensive library
and then just took Walter Nolan defensive tackle out of
all miss How about that?
Speaker 9 (41:39):
Yeah, Walter Owen's interesting guy.
Speaker 10 (41:41):
We were just talking about some of the defensive linemen
that might be a fit for the Seahawks. Nolan is
a little bit more of a kind of a classic
penetrator rather than kind of the big, burly guy that
I think that the Seahawks might be prioritizing. So I
don't necessarily believe that this is somebody that Seattle was
really really high on.
Speaker 9 (41:57):
Plus, we know.
Speaker 10 (41:58):
How the Seahawks are Awks go to the Senior Bowl
and they fall in love with guys there. Walter Nolan
actually struggled in Mobile. He was terrific for Old Miss,
was originally at Texas A and m made that transition
to Old Miss, had an absolutely spentacular season this past year,
and then again goes to the Senior Bowl and there
was all this talk that he might prove himself to
(42:19):
be a top five, top ten selection and instead wound
up foundering a little bit there. So to me, this
is a little bit of a reach actually at this point.
But I think that he's a good player. He's a
guy that if the Seahawks are unable to address their
offensive line problems, Walter Nolan can make me look silly,
because again, he has the ability to be able to
get upfield and create havoc beyond last scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (42:39):
Well, you gotta think the Seahawks kind of liked this pick,
right because they just took Bier Murphy a year ago.
So if they had their eyes on an offensive lineman,
whoever that guy is is still there. The Bengals are
now on the clock at seventeen, followed by the Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Here's what we're gonna do. Dick and I are going
to scadatle out of here.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
Ian Fernest will take over, Hu Mill and Rob Rang
The three of them will take you the rest of
the way. The Seahawks are two picks way, do not
move that dial, baby. The rest of the draft continues
live right here on ninety three three KJRFM.
