Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Morning Breeze, The Morning Breeze on demand. Good Morning,
Happy Monday Morning. It is The Morning Breeze with Carolyn
and Court. It is April fourteenth, twenty twenty five, one
day before tax Day. Wai RIGHTO, coming up quick? How
was your weekend?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
It was pretty great. I made lemon loaf. I made
a lemon cake.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yes, somebody on Friday brought a big old thing of
lemons into the office and you said, I'm going to
take some of these. I'm gonna make a lemon cake,
which I did not think you would actually do it.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Oh, it's like the old saying goes, when life gives
you lemons, you make lemon cake.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
I don't think that's what they I think it's lemonade.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
But sure.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Anyway, how did it come out? It was good, but
not as great as I had hoped. I've been working
on this recipe that's actually a second or third time
i've made it, and it's a little dry. So I'm
trying to figure out why it's so dry. Maybe more oil.
I did increase my oil this time around. I've made
an orange cake, yeah, in a similar fashion, And when

(01:02):
I make this, I'm using the entire thing I'm putting
peel okay, pretty much, I pretty much just put it
in the blender and chop it up.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Really yeah, well I take the seeds out first.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Okay. I feel like baking is harder than cooking. I'd
much rather cook than I would bake.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Bake.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Baking is an art. Well, it's so hard to perfect.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
It's a science because you kind of you kind of
have to do all the things ahead of time and
then just hope it turns out. Whereas well you're cooking,
you can kind of make adjustments.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
What I was gonna say, Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
But yeah, other than a dry lemon loaf, my weekend
was pretty great. How about how about your weekend?

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Mine was good. The weather was so nice. I saw
some friends over the weekend, had the windows and doors
open all weekend, went out for some walks. It was
great out there. I walked outside yesterday. There was a
point where it was so nice and I felt like
I was just getting a big hug from mother nature
because it's like, yeah, it was so warm and so
lovely out, so great weather. Yeah, we hope you had

(01:59):
a good week as well. You can reach us at
eight seven seven nine to eight one oh nine eight one.
Coming up at eight twenty this morning. Little River Band
one of my favorite bands. I'm a big yacht rock
fan of yacht rock this genre, and Little Riverband is
right in there. They're playing at Cash Creek Casino Resort
on May second. So not only at eight twenty are

(02:21):
you're gonna get a chance to win these tickets, but
we're gonna throw in an overnight stay at Cash Creek.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
That way you can go to the show and then
not have to worry about, you know, scurrying on home afterwards. Yeah,
chill out and enjoy joy the hotel as well, joy
your time.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
So that's coming up at eight twenty this morning.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
And then coming up this morning six twenty five. It's
the morning Breeze brain teas. All right, you're starting us off,
what do you have? Americans eat over five billion servings
of this every year.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
I automatically go to like the McDonald's sign that used
to say over a billion serves ye or whatever. So
I'm thinking French fries, but probably not that it's not
fron French fries. Okay, all right, nine eight one. If
you have a guess, or possibly you feel confident about
your answer, we'd love to hear from you. We're gonna

(03:08):
play the Morning Breeze Brain Teas at six twenty five.
Here on the Breeze at Birth Breeze, it's Carolyn and
Court and let's get right into it, starting the week
off the Morning Breeze Brain Teas. It's a fresh week.
You've had good sleep over the weekend. We hope hopefully
you're feeling sharpest attack this morning. How are you going
to do? On the brain Teas. By the way, it's
sponsored by Mike Counsel Plumbing. You're in clean hands with

(03:31):
Mike Council Plumbing. You can visit them at mc plumbing
dot com.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Americans eat over five billion servings of this every year.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
All right, eight seven seven nine eight one oh nine
eight one. We know it's not French fries because I
guess that earlier. Steve and Napa, what do you think
the answer.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Is, I'm gonna get the data chips man.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
That sounds so good. Right now? What's your go to
potato chips? Steve?

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Right now, I'm eating cheese. It so I'm on the road.
So cheese.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
It's okay, baggy of cheese. It's on the road. I'm
not mad at that.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Road stay and while not technically a potato chip, who
cares kill delicious?

Speaker 1 (04:06):
You wash it down with a coke zero, because if so,
we could be soulmates.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
What I got water only or one cup?

Speaker 1 (04:16):
As delicious as all of this sounds, it does it
makes me want to go to an ampm stat potato
chips or cheese.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
It's not the correct answer.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Thanks for calling, Steve.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Hey, you guys have a super gluck today.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Huh you too, Steven, have a good week. Okay, Jeanette,
good morning. You've got a guess. What do you think
the answer is to today's brain tease? Hot dog? You know what?
Americans and hot dogs? Then when the fourth of July
comes around, whoof right?

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Five billion hot dogs in one day only, So the
answer actually is ramen noodles. Oh, Americans eat over five
billion servings of ramen noodles every year.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Jeanette, were you one of those people that when you
were younger you lived off of ramen noodles? I'm only
asking you no judgment because I did. Did you do
that too?

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Yes? Absolutely?

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Mm hmm. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Mom was at work and I was eating the romen.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
It was an easy go to.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
And then everybody can make it.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Throw the plot. Then you put in that little seasoning
stuff that who knows what's in it, but it tastes
really good.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
And you know, everyone has.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Different technique on how when when they add the seasoning.
Some people at it after they've drained the water and
they just seasoned the noodles. Some put it like I
used to put it in the water on top of
the romans. Yeah, how'd you make your noodles, Jeanette?

Speaker 3 (05:28):
I liked boiling it with the Yeah, it.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Really absorbs into the noodle. Well, Jeanette, thank you for listening.
Where are you listening to us? By the way, Albuquerque,
New Mexico? Oh you listen on our app? What do
you do for a living?

Speaker 3 (05:42):
I work at home?

Speaker 1 (05:43):
And how did you find us on our iHeartRadio app?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
You're my dentist just listening to the music and then
heard your station and I was like, let me check
that out.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Is your dentist also in New Mexico?

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Yes, I didn't figure she flew to San Francisco to
get her tight I was just confirming that that there
are now two people, at least two people in New
Mexico listening to the Breeze via iHeartRadio. Jeanette ordentisis there
might be more Court awesome, but Jeanette, we appreciate it,
so thank you for listening. Call anytime that was that
was very nice talking to you.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Yeah, thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
It's the Morning Breeze brain Tease, and we do it
every weekday morning six twenty five here on the Morning Breeze.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Speaking of every day and every morning, coming up every
morning this week at eight twenty, it's going to be
a chance for you to go see a Little River
Band at Cash Creek Casino Resort.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah, that show's happening May second. We're not only going
to give you tickets to the show, but we're also
going to give you an overnight stay.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
I know this is fantastic. I love this prize packet's
coming up eight twenty, your chance to win this morning
and every day this week on the Breeze six forty one.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Here on ninety eight point one The Breeze. It's the
Morning Breeze with Carolyn and Court and it's time now
for you to ask us anything. If you've ever wondered
anything about something that's happening here on the Morning Breeze,
this is your opportunity to call in and just ask.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
And it could be beyond what's happening on the morning breeze.
It's literally ask us anything, So it could be things
that are happening in the world, or.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
About something in the Bay Area.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Anything. Yes, Hence ask us us anything. It's brilliantly named yes.
So this morning we have Eloisa from Vallejo on with us.
And Eloisa, you were asking offline what the hardest thing
about our jobs is? That's what you want to know about.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
This is very interesting in our job for you guys.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
It is.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
It's so nice being able to ask you personal questions.
I mean, this is wonderful, you know, knowing all that
what you guys do. So anyways, thank you so.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Much for my Oh you're welcome. You want to go
first court.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
So I would say the hardest thing about our particular
job has to be the sleep schedule.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Oh that's your answer, huh? With the caveat that it's
gotten better as I've as I've done this job longer
and and the biggest issue I had was when my
when my kids were younger, going to bed early. Just
was it really oh in the cards, couldn't do it?
My brother gets up really early in the morning. He
has young kids, same exact problem. I think that's hard

(08:10):
for anybody, no matter what you're doing, if you just
have this early schedule that we have, anybody listening probably
has close to the same schedule. Okay, Yeah, so when
the kids had like activities at night, I'd have to
go to those, so I would have to start doing
like shift, sleeping, ticket nap in the afternoon, and.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
That's it's never grew.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
It's never the same as a solid night sleep.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
What about you, What is the toughest part of your job?

Speaker 1 (08:33):
I think for me, the toughest part is what happens
behind the scenes that people don't see, because there's there
are a lot of moving parts of our show, and
so I'm doing a lot behind the scenes and it's
really hard to juggle it all and keep it all straight.
And like, just to give you some perspective on this, well,
it was like Friday, I think we were talking to

(08:54):
one of our listeners who won the Sea World San
Diego tickets. Yeah, and I was congratulating her on It's
to Cindy Lauper or something, and you're like, or maybe
it was vice versa. I don't see. I don't even remember.
He lost track of what we were given away totally.
Court's like it's side Lar Rights, so funny. So I mean,
for me, it's that kind of stuff. It's the juggling

(09:15):
of everything because there are so many moving parts. But again,
wouldn't trade it for the world. So it's fine, and
I'm lucky I have Court here to keep me straight.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
We have the best jobs in the world.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
We do. We do.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
But that's a great question. Thank you so much for
calling Eluisa and it is your chance to ask us anything,
and again, it could be about anything. It doesn't have
to be about our jobs. We're always welcome or we're
always more than willing to talk about them. We're at
eight seven seven nine one, nine eight one, or send
us a talk back with our iHeartRadio app all the
way this morning in eight twenty if you haven't heard,

(09:45):
we're giving away tickets to see the Little River Band,
who are coming to Cash Creek Casino Resort in May.
I love Little River Band, and that is a band
that has so many hits like cool Change and Reminiscing
and Lady and Lonesome Loser. They have a ton of them.
Cash Creek is awesome. We're going to throw in an

(10:06):
overnight stay if you're our winner. So yeah, be here
at eight twenty for your chance to win those tickets
on the Breeze.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
It's the Morning Breeze with Carolyn and Court in time
now for the Brider Side. Is there something good happening
in your life right now where maybe something's bringing a
smile to your face. We want to hear about it.
Eight seven seven nine eight one nine eight one Brighter
Side sponsored by Shriving Company, Luxury time Pieces, Fine Designers
and Flawless Diamonds.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Okay, Court, we have Steve in Santa Rosa Holding. And
you heard us talking about National Library Week last week
and you said that brought back some neat memories for you.
So what were they?

Speaker 3 (10:41):
It just reminded me of my fourth grade teacher, missus Ward.
Every day I think of her because my dad was
a calf masker. He always wanted me to be fifteen
minutes from school I had to be at work. Well,
one day, Missus Ward he grove over to my dad
after school and told him that she needed me for
an hour school one day a week. He said, okay,

(11:02):
if he really needs it, and so every Thursday after
school she would take me over to the library and
let me get books because I didn't have time to
do it otherwise. But I would stay up all night reading.
By third grade, I'd read every book in our school library.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Oh wow, and your teacher actually took you from school
to the library so that you could read books every
day after school.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Yeah, she was just an awesome lady. I actually became
a fourth grade teacher myself because.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Of that, no kidding.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
Ye. Now that I'm retired, I try to do whatever
I can to help somebody else get to the library
or get some education.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
So how do you do that?

Speaker 3 (11:41):
I do my walk and I see young people there
and I say, have you been to the library lately?
And I'm Occasionally somebody says no, and they go ask
their parents and I take them to the library and back.
And other times I just helped somebody do something, Like
the other day, I was walking and I saw this
fence that had, you know, part of the fence had
leaned over a little bit, and I went over knocked

(12:02):
on the door, and there's a ramp going up the door,
so I knew the guy couldn't walk through, did so
he answered the door on his walker and I said,
I was wondering if I could fixt your pens for you,
and he said, well, yes, I'd really appreciate that. So
the next day I carried my tools up there on
my walk and leaned up his pants and near the work.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
That is so nice.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
It really is just becausing this award.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
I love this story. I'm so glad you called and shared.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
I love your show.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Oh, thank you, all right, Steve, you have a good day.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
I think Steve. Actually I wish we knew somebody that
knew Steve, because he would be a great person of
the week for us.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
One hundred percent would be Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
And by the way, we are looking for our next
Morning Breeze person of the Week. While we're on this topic,
it's coming up this Friday, just after seven o'clock. These
are people in the Bay Area, like Steve, who are
doing good things but oftentimes not being recognized for them.
So we recognize them for those things and we award
them Brunch for two on the Bay courtesy of City Cruises. Yeah,
so tell us about that person in your life that's

(13:03):
doing good things for others. This is a perfect example
with Steve and you can get those nominations into us
at ninety eight one The Breeze dot com. Good morning,
It is the Morning Breeze with Carolyn and Cords. So, Carolyn,
a beautiful weekend here in the Bay over the weekend. Yeah,
just I think a lot of people taken advantage of that.
I spent a good chunk of my weekend though, watching

(13:23):
television because it was The Masters. Oh and I'm I'm
not a golfer.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
I've got only golf a handful of times in my life. Sure,
but for some reason, these big tournaments I tend to
like tune into them just to watch. So the Masters
was on over the weekend, and I went to my
grocery store and they were they were selling pimento sandwiches
because that is the signature sandwich of the Masters in Augusta.

(13:49):
Are you familiar with this?

Speaker 1 (13:51):
No, it is like apparently it is the thing to have,
is a Pimento sandwich.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Pimento sandwich.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
I love that they were trying to capitalize on the Masters.
I bought into it, hook line and sinkerd Really. I
bought one, brought it home, sold the whole family said Hey,
we're going to enjoy this pimento sandwich together. Yeah. No,
I was just going to ask you what is pimento?
Is that vegetable that's a cheese. It's like a pimento cheese.

(14:18):
It's got little like things of pepper in it. It's
one of the word that I don't like. Yeah, pimento.
It's like a spread, cheesy spread. It's very it's a
very bright orange. Okay, then I'm back specks of I
think it's pepper.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
But it wasn't good.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Was it because it was a sandwich or was it
because you don't like the flavor? Like generally speaking, like
pimento spread like on a cracker, delicious, but it's a
small cracker. This was like a full fledged sandwich. I
feel like that's aggressive to put a spread on a
on a piece of bread and another piece and call
it a sandwich. You're missing some component there, and that

(14:58):
component is like turkey or roast be or something.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Right exactly. But these, apparently they have been for years
and years. They are the sandwich of the Masters. They
serve them. They're super cheap there at the at the
golf tournament.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Which is also surprising to me because it's the Masters.
You think it would be the class. Like not that
a pimento sandwich is a class I don't know, but
you would think it would be like amazing.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Right, And I was not blown away by it at all.
It was because you know, like finger sandwiches are teeny tiny.
It feels like it should be a finger sandwich, not a.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
That's what I'm thinking, gigantic sand Remember how your mom
used to make three different kinds of sandwiches for us.
It was cheese, and then there was baloney, and then
there was peeb and j And she'd cut up each
sandwich up into four pieces, put it on a plate
and be like, lunch is served. I feel like you
could bury a pimento sandwich in there somewhere, yeah, and
it would pass. But not for the masters. You just

(15:51):
opened my eyes to something new. I had no idea.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
They had one sandwich and it was cut in half.
In between the three of us, we ate about a
third of it, and all of us we're like.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
We're out.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
Who wants to go to raising canes? Exactly right, We're
at eight seven seven nine, eight one nine eight one.
By the way, congratulations Rory mcelright. It's like an incredible
that was a great story. The winner of the Masters
is like phenomenal.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
So he did.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Something that people have have rarely done, which is like
the Triple Crown or whatever, the Grand don't it's not
the Grand Slam. I know that he won all of
the major tournaments, yes, but he he and he was
leading most of the day yesterday and then started to lose, yes,
and then came back to win in one.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
That's why I can't believe we're having this conversation right now.
I never thought I would see the day were you
and I talked golf on the act of that pimento sandwich.
Right now we're back not I don't recommend it, Okay,
we got that. Thank you Laude Claire again eight seven
seven nine eight o nine eight one. That is how
you reach us. You can always send us a message
with our iHeart Radio app. Use that talkback Mike. It's

(16:54):
a really easy way for you to communicate with us
when you are on the go and it's convenient for you.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
And on the way. This morning, eight twenty, we've got
tickets to see the Little Riverband when they come to
the Cash Creek Casino Resort.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Playing all the hits, cool, change and Lonesome Loser reminiscing
and lady they have so many hits plus at Cash Creek,
We're going to throw in an overnight stay for you.
So be here at eight twenty your chance to win
those tickets on the breeze. It's Ace of Base and
the sign and it is eight oh eight, Good morning,
Happy Monday Morning Breeze with Carolyn and Court Court. I

(17:27):
had a conversation with a coworker the other day about
the experience that we used to have when it came
to shoe shopping. Do you remember when you were a kid,
before the school year, your parents would take you to
a shoe store because now we do everything or most
of the time it's like Amazon, or you disorder online
from wherever, or you may go to a department store.

(17:50):
Well that's what we us. Oh yeah, a department store
about There used to be shoe stores. Do you remember
when there was a shoe store? Ours was Hallowel's in
the East Bay and conquered Mine was main Stream Eat
shoes and my uncle owned it. No way, what a gift?
So'd you get free shoes?

Speaker 2 (18:06):
We got discounted shoes. Whoa. But you'd go in and
you'd sit down, and you actually had somebody that would
measure your foot that little I don't even a little
silver thingy and they'd slide the slider to the toes
and then they would check your width as well.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
Yes, do you remember that? And that's exactly what the
conversation was that we were having in the office. It
was such a trip because you forget about this stuff
until it comes up in conversation. How your parents and
it was in our case, it was always my mom
would take us to Hallowell's Shoes and she'd say, you
can pick out one pair of shoes, and that pair

(18:42):
of shoes would last you the whole school year, right,
it's all you wore every single day. And then that
the salesperson would sit on that stool that had like
the angled mirror. Yes, you put your foot up there.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
You can see what you look like.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
And then the shoes. Yes, and they'd go on the
back and they come out with shoes, and then they
make you see how it feels.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
Take a walk around, and then they then they'd come
up to you and they'd get down and they would
they would pinch the toe, the toe to see how
close your toe was to the.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
Top yes, and they're like, is this your shoes, and
you're like, this is my pair for the year. It
doesn't happen anymore, not. I think rarely will you find
any place that will do that for you. It is
such a trip. We used to get lollipops at that store, too,
so that was the big In the end. You'd get
one of those like cheap lollipops, remember the thin ones
that they're the yellow always tasted like, yeah, cough medicine

(19:29):
or oh those are them.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
You're talking about dumb dumbs.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
No, not a dumb dumdum flat. It's a flat.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Yeah, yeah, super cheap, super cheap.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Hallowel's shoes the best. But it's so funny when you
go down that sort of rabbit hole with somebody memory
lane and you realize, oh my gosh, I've completely forgot
about this experience. And in this case, it was of
buying shoes. But I think there were so many things
back in the day that if you start thinking about,
you're like, we don't do that at all anymore.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
I actually was able to get using that measurement device.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
I had to go to my pediatrist and they did
it there because they want to they have one.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
They have because they check out your feet because you know,
typically one foot is bigger than the other, so you
find out which is the bigger foot. In my case,
my right foot is bigger than my left. Okay, And
then they checked how wide my feet were and told
me that my walking shoes or my running shoes need
to be whiter than what I was typically wearing.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
Oh that's interesting. Yeah, I wonder if they bought all
their contraptions from Hallowel's Shoes and Walnut Creek when they
went out of business right about nineteen eighty seven.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
Maybe I think you can buy those contraptions on Amazon
if you want your own. I know why you would
want your own.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
We're at eight seven seven nine eight one, nine eight one.
