Adult with Autism

Adult with Autism

Autism is an individual difference for each person who is Autistic. But what happens when you are Autistic and not welcome by Autism communities because you won’t follow their agendas or ideologies? You start your own. All I want to do, is share my perspective of my version of Autism, openly, honestly, and in many cases...vulnerably. I don’t just share the fun, happy, shiny and friendly. I share real life, and the difficulties of being diagnosed later in life.

This (audio) video has been made due to the number of emails received talking of bad employers who don't or won't consider Reasonable Adjustments in the workplace. This (audio) video contains all of my live and current Reasonable Adjustments that I have with my employer. This is from the perspective of Autism, but will also apply to all recognised disabilities under the Equality Act 2010 in England. It may also appear that England ...

This has been made due to the number of emails received talking of bad employers who don't or won't consider Reasonable Adjustments in the workplace. This is a rough guide of what you need to consider and the action to take to begin this process. You are not wrong for needing them, and it is the bad employers that put a lot of Autistic people off from working.

This is from the perspective of Autism, but will also apply to all reco...

I haven't been around for 6 months, so please forgive me if I am rusty at this. I want nothing more than to be back sooner than later, but...health anxieties have the better of me, unfortunately.

The audio extract from the video is from a request in which someone discussed how telling others about your late diagnosis of Autism...that the way they respond matters.  This took a while for me to understand, and didn't want to cover th...

I am in Autism Burn Out personally, yet also on the edge of hitting it professionally. It is a strange feeling to be going towards Burn Out from two different directions. I have done a video over on Patreon, a free video to explain my personal Burn Out, and this is talking about my Burn Out due to work. But the bottom line here is, I need to take better care of myself.

For many years, I struggled with putting myself or my needs first. Whenever I wanted to, I couldn't get past thinking I was being selfish. As the years went by and I slowly started taking better care of me and my needs, everyone around me disappeared as they were not getting the things they once were from me. Trying to see that you are important too, and need to pay attention to yourself has taken me a lifetime to figure out, and s...

At the time of recording, there is a news story where a man called Louis de Zoysa killed a Policeman, whilst in custody. All news outlets are reporting about this incident that took place in 2020, and all news outlets are stating that the defence for Louis de Zoysa was that he was in the middle of an 'Autistic Meltdown' during the incident.

For those who may be curious as to what an Autistic Meltdown is, I share what one looks like...

The Blue Disability Badge is something I always remember from when I was younger being associated with persons with mobility impairments, but the badge also covers hidden disabilities such as Autism. However, the local councils website was not overly straightforward when it came to explaining this, or more so for me to explain why I feel I need a to apply for one of these badges now.

Things change, nothing more than Autism with age...

Being Autistic and working from home for me is a perfect combination. But if you listen to some prominent figures such as Elon Musk and Alan Sugar, home workers are lazy and should be terminated from employment.

This is one of the most short sighted views I have heard in a long time, especially when if anyone took the time to talk to Autistic Employees, they would see that most of the time, it isn't the job that is the concern, it ...

No outline for this audio, I just simply wanted to think out loud about my health anxieties and see if my Autism plays their part in them somewhere. I always knew I was fearful of being ill, but after really paying attention to it, I have probably only had around 6 months of not worrying about my health in the last 8 years, which is terrible to think about. So, something needs to change.

Talking for others is something I try to actively avoid, but this topic deserves to be acknowledged because people just don't seem talk about it. Sometimes, the Autistic mind is the square peg for the otherwise round world, and we don't fit into it. Early intervention is welcome, but there are a lot of people (including myself) who are diagnosed later in life. In some cases, too late. And I don't mean that in relation to age, I mea...

Finding a space to be yourself does so much more than I think even we realise at times. Then to accept it is okay to have safe space and not consider judgement is even more important.

The question I ask myself is 'would I even need a safe space if the world was more accommodating'...but then I remember it isn't, so I have a safe space!

And yes, I have darkened the colours of my walls in my safe space.

I struggle when something doesn't makes sense. Then when something else doesn't make sense to go on top of the thing that already doesn't make sense, I am not sure what I am supposed to do with it. A bit like if you burn a cake when you make it to the point where it is inedible why would you then carry on decorating it instead of making a new one? The education system was broken when I was at school, and for some reason I fancy moa...

Keep up a high level of operating and don't realise until it's too late...and then, Burnout. There isn't any chapters to help out with unfortunately, I just waffle for the entire video, and haven't even watched it back to see if I make any sense as I don't like seeing myself where I am not doing too good. But as always, I will share the good, the bad and the ugly.

After Xmas and New Year, it all starts again. For some reason, the more time I spend away from the world I exist in, the harder it is to go back. I don't know if it because I am getting older, or if it is because I try to live in a world I prefer which is away from general day to day life that exists outside my front door. I don't really make a point, just moaning as always, and of course to see if it just me who struggles with thi...

We change and our surroundings change, then we are forced to adapt. Since I was diagnosed with Autism, I have done nothing if not obsess over the diagnosis. Trying to see if it was my doing or if was out of my control over the way life and interactions with others has gone. I have changed a lot since then to the person I am today. I haven't finished either. But I wanted to share what I have changed and why. 5 points in this video, ...

I have always wondered why people look to 'cure' Autism when it isn't possible. For a cure, there needs to be an identified negative ailment that requires remedy. That does not describe Autism. But as much as I have been happy to sit back and find all the different types of 'cure' amusing, the direction Autism 'cures' has now taken has given me a stark reality of what people are actually aiming for...or at least it is a conclusion ...

After an interaction with a few young single gentlemen who were looking for love on the Autism pages on Reddit, I asked 'what do you write in a dating profile?'. One answer was 'women don't date Autistic men, prove me wrong'. Now, not to speak for the opposite sex here but, I'm pretty sure that isn't going to work. After multiple obscenities thrown my way for daring to offer a bit of help or guidance, it got me thinking...What shou...

After around 17 months of making weekly videos (more so at times), I have decided to take a break from making videos for a while. A weekly video is tough when you try to be original! I could easily knock out the generic ones, but if I cannot affix a story or explanation to it, there isn't much point without context. With many videos brings the naysayers and correction brigade, so this video is to explain why I make videos, and why ...

There is a lot of focus on what causes Autism, and not enough when it comes to what to do with it. It's been this way for years, with no signs of slowing down. The problem is, we are still not getting anywhere, so what needs to change? I think I have figured it out...
