Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good Morning.
This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's
tip is that it doesn't have to be fancy. Indeed,
sometimes not so fancy things can make everyone happy. I

(00:29):
have been thinking of today's tip because I recently had
a few people over for dinner. I got out the
formal china and some nice wine, but I was trying
to think of what I could serve as a main
course that everyone would like. Now, there may not be
a perfect answer, but I also realized that when I
had served fried chicken from a local place at a

(00:51):
picnic the year before, everyone had loved it. Why not
at a dinner party too. So I called up the company,
put in an order, and we ate fried chicken on
fine china. It was easy and people liked it. As
I was reflecting on this, I remembered a couple telling

(01:13):
me about their wedding where they decided to have an
ice cream Sunday bar for dessert rather than a traditional cake.
What a great idea. Most people don't like fondant. Anyway,
you can get lots of ice cream and toppings for
a fraction of the cost of a formal cake that

(01:33):
serves a hundred people. It doesn't have to be fancy,
even for a fancy occasion. I am sure you can
think of lots of other situations where this advice might work.
I have bought various dresses for speaking over the years,
but I have realized that a colorful top and simple

(01:56):
black pants tends to work as well as anything. A
handful of tulips and daffodils from your yard can make
as beautiful a floral arrangement as something from a florist.
I have been playing around with fancy planners, and they
are fun, but I often wind up writing my to

(02:17):
do list in a little notebook. Hey, it works. So
if you are struggling to figure out a fancy solution
for something, consider that maybe it doesn't have to be fancy.
What do people like? What is a crowd pleasing solution?
We don't have to overthink these things. It turns out

(02:41):
that you can buy fine wines to pair with fried chicken,
and I didn't have nearly as many leftovers as I
thought I might. In the meantime, this is Laura. Thanks
for listening, and here's to making the most of our time.
