Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast, Do you Love.
Let me ask you a simple question. Do you share?

(00:23):
I'm not talking about being a kid in kindergarten and
sharing the dinosaur toys. Do you share from your heart?
Walt Whitman once said, these are the days that must
happen to you. You shall scatter with a lavish hand
all that you learn or achieve, and those who love

(00:48):
you shall rise to your example and be inspired. Do
you teach others? Do you mentor others? Do you say here?
Let me show you how to do that. Let me
show you there's an easier way. Let me show you
what I've learned. Let me part. Let me impart into
your heart the knowledge that I came by through trial

(01:12):
and error and pain and suffering in tears. Let me
share it with you. Let me share from my heart.
Do you share? And do you share with a lavish hand? Brenda,
this is Delilah. What can I do for you?

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Hi, Delilah, My life is starting over. I'm forty three
years old. I was an officer in the Air Force
for twenty years and I got in a little bit
of trouble. I was court martialed, put in prison. I
have two children that I lost custody of, and my
whole life is just I've lost it everything. I hit

(01:53):
rock bottom and I'm talking in this year.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Are you sure, Brenda, you want to tell me all this?
I mean, this is some pretty painful stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Well that's why I listened to you every night, and
I say to myself, you know what, I wonder if
there's a song that I can take as my anthem
or something that you can do to make me want
to go forward. You see what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Well, have you learned from whatever was?

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yes, ma'am. I went to rehab and I really have
just picked myself up and learned about my failures.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
And you've picked yourself up or you've let God pick
yourself up.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Oh my god, I have totally found God and I've
been going to AA and just a lot of good
things have come about, and I've got a lot more
support in my life than I ever thought I had.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
So. So was the court martial and the loss of
your career as a result of your addictions? Yes? So
are you out of prison. Now have you done your Yes,
I did. Did you get your kids back?

Speaker 2 (02:56):
No? My ex husband won physical custody, but I have
joint legal custody.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
So do you get to spend a lot of time
with them?

Speaker 2 (03:04):
I spend every other weekend. And that's it.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Oh, that's got to be tough.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
It's really sad. But yet I'm not looking for pity.
What I'm trying to say is I'm looking for something
to motivate me to keep going on and to get
up every day and move forward. I just got a
job with a company that knows my background and they're
giving me a chance.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Well, Brenda, here's the thing. I mean, you can put
all those labels on yourself. I'm an alcoholic, I was
a drug addict, I'm a convicted felon, or you can say,
you know what. I was in a terrible state, and
I am going to go forward and share my story
with others to give them hope.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
I fully believe that I cannot think that I could
get up up out of bed every morning if I
didn't believe that right now.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
I mean, just the fact that you're bold enough and
brave enough to tell me this stuff tells me that
You've got a heart to love others and to help others,
and to share with other women. Because addiction is so
rampant in our society and people don't talk about it,
they don't realize it.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
That is what I wanted to tell you. I'm trying
to share this with other people that may have this problem,
to please get help. I was living the life that
people saw the outside, the perfect Air Force officer, the
perfect mother, the perfect everything they get Inside it was
total turmoil.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
But thank God, you've come out on the other side.
And I pray that God helps you to spend more
time with your kids, and like I said, that he
uses you to help others. Let me find that perfect
song to be your anthem. Thank you, Delilah, hang in there, honey, Okay,
thank you. I received an amazing letter from a young

(04:38):
adult named Travis, and it touched my heart, so I
wanted to share it with you. Travis writes, I dropped
out of high school going against all I knew was right,
and I regret it to this day. I told my
teachers I would get a ged, but I never went
and signed up. Well about a week ago, one of
my teachers called me and told me to get ready

(04:59):
because I was starting my GED classes on Monday. Never
in a million years would I have expected a teacher
to do that for me after all the trouble I
had caused them at school, and come to find out,
all of my old teachers and the administration even paid
for the classes I took. While listening to your show,

(05:20):
I got to thinking about what you said. Teachers don't
get enough credit for all that they do, So I
want to play a song for all those teachers out
there who change students' lives each and every day. I
bet you still remember times when a teacher did something
for you, and you, Delilah, have helped me to realize
what a jerk I have been to many of my

(05:40):
teachers when all they wanted to do was help. It
seems a little ironic, but at sixteen, I'm writing this
to you because I think I've grown up since I
quit school, and I would give just about anything to
go back. Thank you for all that you do. From
Travis Stephanie welcome. What can I do to make your

(06:11):
night a little more enjoyable.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
I was in an abusive marriage for seven years and
I finally decided to flee. I packed up two suitcases
full of clothes, and I fled pretty much for my life.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
So we're talking physically abusive, not just verbally or mentally, right.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
It was severely physically abusive.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yes, And what were the excuses you used to explain
the bruises when your friends would ask?

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Oh, I was good with covering with clothes, and all
the stupid excuses like I tripped, I fell, I was
exercising and I'd walked to a table.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
But you, all of a sudden you became really clumsy, right, yes, yeah,
so you fled for your life, and now how is
life treating you?

Speaker 3 (06:53):
I now own my own home, I have my own car,
I have a great job. I've just finished my master's
in school Road on the Road Pass to Success. And
I also now I facilitate domestic bond support group for women.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Oh good for you.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
I wanted to share it. I'm so proud and I
just wanted to let you know that. The very last night,
when I was typing up my final exam for my
last class to graduate for school, I was listening to
your program and you just made me feel so so
proud of myself, and I was just happy I had
no one to share it with and I was just

(07:29):
listening to you and I was crying and laughing and
happy all at the same time.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
I'm so proud of you. I don't even know you,
and I'm proud of you that you were able to
say no, nobody is going to hurt me, nobody is
going to disrespect me, nobody is going to squash the
spirited me. Ever again, that you were able to do that,
and now that you're able to help other women do that,
You're my hero for the day.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
It feels good. It feels good to give back. It's
my turn to give back to them because I've had
angels in my life long way to help me too.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
All Right, God bless you, Honey, Hi.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Orb Hi, Delilah, how are you.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
I'm good. Thank you for agreeing to be a part
of our program.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
You're welcome.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
So you wrote to us or to brag about seven
very special people, right.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
Well, last year, my wife and I volunteered to help
with the Special Olympics and we went down. There was
the idea that we were going to help pull this
program off, and it wasn't long until we realized that
we were the ones that were being helped these athletes
were absolutely incredible. They take what God gave them and

(08:46):
performed over and above what anybody could expect.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Tell me, in particular about the young lady that you
wrote about, the one that was getting up on the
platform to get her medal.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
Right, this was in the.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Jenna her name was Jenner right.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
In the afternoon event. Young lady, I believe I heard
she was twenty three years old, was afflicted with a
neuromuscular disease of some type that it was very debilitating. However,
I had been at the top of the hill when
she started her run, and she went through the gates

(09:23):
flawlessly and made it all the way to the bottom
of the hill. When it came time for the ceremonies,
Jenna won first place in her division, and in order
to get up onto the twelve inch high platform, she
had to sit on the platform, swing her legs up,

(09:43):
and a friend helped her stand up and then held
her from behind so that she wouldn't fall as she
was getting her medal. And it was quite emotional to
say the least.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
You said your goggles were hiding your tears.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
Well, that's true. She was the most incredible person I've
ever met in my life.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
And how has this changed your life?

Speaker 4 (10:06):
Well, it certainly taught me that, you know, too often
we think about counting our blessings rather than using them
over and above our abilities. And it just added a
whole new dimension to my life that whatever we're given
and whatever we're blessed with, we should use it to
the greatest ability that God gives us the opportunity to

(10:28):
do well.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Thank you for using your compassion to bless them.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
I'm going to find a perfect song for all the
special Olympic athletes.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
Okay, you'll find something appropriate.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Thanks or good night. Thanks for sharing you too, and
God bless you, God bless you. I so hope you
have enjoyed these radio moments as much as I enjoy
bringing them to you. I'll share more with you each
weekday on a It's Delilah
