Speaker 2 (00:22):

And today is really going to be a lot about
this whole beef that's happening right down right now with
Kendrick and Drake.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
We want to make sure we break.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
This down for you guys so you can understand a
lot of things that are being alluded to. Uh see
what you guys think about who's winning this battle? Where
there any lines cours or are there lines when it
comes to this? So we're going to get into all
of that. But first I started off with some love
and positivity because I think we need that after all
of the activities over the weekend, all of the beef
and going on. So eight hundred two nine two fifty

(01:06):
one fifteen call us up and let us know who
you want to shine a light on.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
It's way up.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
I'm shin, I'm shine turn your lights on, y'all, lights
on spreading love to those who are doing greatness.

Speaker 5 (01:17):
Shine a light on them, Shine the light on them.
It's time to shine a light on them.

Speaker 6 (01:24):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Like I said, we are going to get into some
positivity before we get into the beef.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
And y'all goe with that. Yes, all right?

Speaker 4 (01:29):
I need that.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Jordan Emmanuel is here from Summer House, Martha's Vineyard. Rob
Markman is here from Genius, but also his own individual
person as a journalist and as a hip hop artist too.
So we're going to talk about all of that today.
But today I want to shine a light. I just
got back from Saint Thomas last night and I want
to shine a light on Ayana Young. She was the
person that kind of put this itinerary together for us.

(01:52):
It was carnival and Saint Thomas. Have you all ever
been to a carnival before?

Speaker 6 (01:55):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
But I want to all right, we're going to plan
this for you, Rob, you.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
I mean, I'm from flatbursh So Easton Park. The closes.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
But we did, Juve, we did the parade.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
But when I tell you, she thought of absolutely everything
while we were on this trip to make sure that
we were comfortable, to make sure that we were well
taken care of. So shout out to you, Yanna. And
she's from Brooklyn. You know I love that already. But
she has family there, so she's back and forth a lot.
So shout out to Ayana because when I tell you,
everybody was like, this is one of the best trips
we've ever been on. That's how people really really felt.

(02:26):
And it was a lot of activities, I promise you.
All right, Well, who do you guys want to shine
a light on? Eight hundred two nine fifty one fifty kenny,
who do you want to shine a light on?

Speaker 7 (02:35):
I want to show one like my litt niece Keisha
Footnet So she wrote a book, children's book for bad
secrets and everything about with United you are touching. You
would not supposed soon that we can hear a street
explains how you know you should talking about to gladys
and your parents about it.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Oh that's amazing. We shout out to Keisha. How old
is she?

Speaker 7 (02:58):
She's a grown woman. She's thirty.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
That's an important book though for to be able to
have those conversations with your kids. Absolutely all right, we'll
shout out to Kisha, what's the name of the book
one more time?

Speaker 7 (03:09):
Bad secrets not for me?

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Bad secrets not for me? All right, thank you so
much for calling.

Speaker 7 (03:15):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
All right, Well, that was shining light. And like I said,
we have some journalists in the building with us. We
have Jordan Emmanuel and Rob Markman. And when we come back,
of course we're gonna start it off by talking about
what is happening with Drake versus Kendrick Lamar.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
There are so many songs out, but we're gonna break
it down.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
We'll get the timeline for you, and of course you
guys will get a chance to weigh in. You can
always hit us up at Way up with you or
leave a message and we'll get it that way too.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
But you know, call us up live. Eight hundred and
two nine two fifty one fifty.

Speaker 6 (03:43):
This says in the rooms.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
From Industry Shade to all of gosp out sending angelus feeling.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
That eet.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
All right, it's the way up. I'm Angela Yee and
I'm joined today by Jordan Emmanuel. She is also a journalist,
which we love. And also Rob Markman, who is a
music journalist. You know him from right now, from genius,
but also from being a hip hop artist. Let's get
into it you already? Yeah, all right, well let's start
March twenty seconds. This is when this all kind of

(04:14):
exploded publicly for us to see. You know, there were
little jabs that have been taken between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Did y'all anticipate that this would ever be like this?

Speaker 4 (04:24):
I did it. I did it. I thought that the
beef because there was so many shots for like ten years.
I was like this, this isn't going anywhere, right really?
I literally made a video on my Instagram on January fourth,
being like, these guys are never going to really go
at each other, they might as well all three collaborate. Drake,
j Cole, Kendrick clearly.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Do you think it's because we don't know what it
really even stems from?

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Right?

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Is it rap competition? Is it I'm the best? But
it feels like it's very very personal. And Jordan, do
you think there's certain lines that shouldn't be crossed when
it comes to rap battles?

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Or everything is on the table?

Speaker 8 (04:55):
At this point it's too late. Regardless. I do feel like,
you know, there's some etiquette being people in the same industry,
but that's long gone at this point.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Just know when I run into you, you can't say
certain things and think it's all good.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Well let's start it off. But like that, this is the.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Song where Future Metro Boomin and Kendrick and here's what
Kendrick had to say, the.

Speaker 6 (05:15):
Big three because this is just big meat bumped.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
All right, So that was the first little Okay, some
jabs have taken there. And by the way, Ja Cole
did respond at a certain point, but then dropped out
right after it was.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Seven minute drill. He said it was affecting his piece.
He wasn't sleeping right at night.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
I'm not mad at it.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Yeah, wait, he got clown. He definitely got clown. He's
seeming like the genius. He might be the winner in
all this whin it's all said, and he saw it
all all right.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Well, then Drake on April thirteenth put out push ups
and this was the drop and give me fifty And
people were loving this, by the way when it came out,
because the dropping give me fifty was it. He was
saying that tde got fifty percent of Kendrick's money or
did he pay fifty million to get out of that contract.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
That's what some people speculated.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
I think it was fifty percent because and then he
talked he had a line about splits on the leak
version and Kendrick doing split So and I don't know
that fifty percent is a bad deal. I mean, what
was Drake's contract with Birdman and Wayne like?

Speaker 2 (06:08):
So right, everybody has and yeah, everybody's in everybody's pockets.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Well, here's what that sounded like.

Speaker 9 (06:13):
It's probably changed if it's being start to kiss and
tell goes and kisses man, don't tell me by the switches,
I'll be rocking everything.

Speaker 5 (06:19):
Shaint our own.

Speaker 9 (06:21):
Hey, I'll be with somebodyguards like Britney.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Whitney is of course Kendrick's significant other, and she's been
at the center of a lot of this.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Now we'll get into that in a second.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
But Kendrick Dan responded with euphoria and Euphoria, by the way,
is also the name of the show that Drake executive
produced with Thumbs and Daya.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
So I had a lot of on the age sex
and the show.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Also, yeah, that people were saying. It was like, you know,
well with the GRASSI two point zero, I mean really
like three point zero. But here's what that sounded like.
Where he took shot at Drake for being a bad father.

Speaker 6 (06:53):
Why would I call around trying to get turt on
Jack and trying to think of my life as wrapped?
I got a sum on the raise, but I could
see you don know.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
None about God.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
All right, we got a lot more to get into
when it comes to this. But then you also put out,
by the way, was it the same day that this
came out?

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Six sixteen in La?

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Six exteen in La came out on Friday?

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (07:11):
And that and Meet the Meet the Grahams came out
later that night.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
All right, all right, so let's get into six sixteen
in La. Here's what that sounded like.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
Have you ever thought that, oh, fie Joe was working
for Bully? You hate Bully?

Speaker 3 (07:26):
All right?

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Well, this is where it was exposed that there are
some moles in Drake's camp.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
What do you think about that?

Speaker 8 (07:33):
I believe it, low key, Okay, Yeah, I feel like
it's hard to have a camp that big and not
have some suspicious people in there.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
Yeah, and even if they're not intentionally suspicious like that.
The camp has been like a little shaky. If you
go back to the push of TV push A found
out about Drake's son, he said, how did he find it?
Because he said forty had told the woman it was
Pillow talking, and push A found out from the woman.
So you know the camp. There's a lot of people

(08:02):
in that camp. So there's been leaks, whether intentional or
malicious or not.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
All right, well, we're gonna get more into this because
there is so much and when I tell you, we've
never heard Kendrick drop like this, you know, literally back
to back to back. And the six sixteen in La
of course was the time stamping, which is normally what
Drake does and a lot of his music, and so
Kenjick beat him to the punch with that. There's a
lot of subliminals here and I know we'll break that
down too. We have more when we come back about

(08:28):
last night, because it only makes sense and about last
night to talk about all of these songs dropping like
all weekend and right now, Oh, we're gonna get into
what we're gonna get into like that. All right, well,
let's get into like that future Metro booming and Kenjack lamar.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
N so about last night, Yes, N went down.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Last night, all right, his way up.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
And I have Rob Markman here with me today from
Genius and Jordan Emmanuel who's also is also a journalist,
and we're trying to break down this Drake versus Kenjake.
It's a lot, that's a whole lot. It's a lot
for a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. So we
played some of the beginnings of the beef up to
six sixteen in LA and right now, let's get into

(09:15):
where we are now. Drake put out the song family Matters,
and he's making a lot of accusations about Kenjick, Kenjack's
right hand Dave Free, being the father of one of
Whitney his woman's kids.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
All right, so here's what he had to say, gird.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Of one of those kids might be day Free.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
That's a huge allegation.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah see, but it's also not saying that she was
saying I heard that it was Yeah, that's.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
The out though. That's the like the wink wink, like
he introduced that information that wasn't even a rumor, that
wasn't anything that anybody was talking about. Drake put that
in the air. I don't believe it because I wouldn't
see Kendrick after that standing next to Dave Free, Like,
I just don't. That was pretty unbelievable to me.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
And then he also and I think this is where
he's really trying hipload thebut because ken Jack has made
it clear, like you're talking about my family, and I
think anybody and a.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Hip hop beef.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Once you start talking about somebody's family, you may not
care about what people say about you, but when they
start talking about people who you love, that's when it
really does hurt. And here's what he had to say
about his allegations that Kenjack is abusive to Whitney.

Speaker 9 (10:19):
When you put your hands on your curve is this
self defense is bigger than you have.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
You heard these allegations before about him putting his hands
or being an abuser.

Speaker 8 (10:27):
Never. I also think it's so ironic that Drake chose
to use that line because he's stood by so many
actual people who've gone to jail for putting their people.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
So I feel like that's a little yeah, that's a hypocrites,
so we can't even take it seriously. Right, all right, Well,
here is what Kendrick had to say on Meet the Grams,
and it was pretty harsh.

Speaker 6 (10:54):
He makes a horrible person to nerve for you did wow.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
He compared him to Harvey Wine seen and said that
your dad raised a sick kid. All right, here's what
else you had to say about this alleged and there's
a lot of allegations here a daughter that he says
that Drake has got baby girl.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
I'm sorry that your father not had differ inside your world.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Wow, eleven year old daughter.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Do we think that's too or that's just an allegation
that's being thrown out there in response?

Speaker 8 (11:21):
History could be repeating itself.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
I think I think dok got some bad information. I
think you know the difference between this because this is
the push of tea playbook with storya added on and push.
It revealed that Drake had a son that we didn't
know about, and then we saw that Drake actually had
a son. Unless we see the daughter. It's kind of like, well, anybody,
it's really at this point, anybody could say anything. Angelie.

(11:43):
I could. I could talk about you're not from Brooklyn, Angelau,
Hee's actually from Mars. She doesn't walk on her two feet.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
She had anything to you, by the way, anything And
you know what the worst thing you could say about
somebody is that they're a pedophile.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
And Kenja goes there or not like us.

Speaker 6 (12:00):
Drake, I hear you like, I'm young, you better not
have a go to sell black one?

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Ouch you eight with that, But I will say and
we'll talk about this later.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Drake comes back and says a min to be sharp,
and you know that was clever too, But he also
says the Bay.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Is not gonna let you disrespect pack.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
And now he's saying that he cannot go there, uh,
because he's supposed to be going there on tour. But
we'll talk about this, and we want to hear your thoughts.
Eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty. We're not
done yet, but we want you guys to weigh in.
Rob Mark Mint is here, Jordan Emmanuel is here, and
we want to chit chat with you guys about what
you think about this ongoing beef. Eight hundred two ninety
two fifty one fifty.

Speaker 5 (12:36):
This is way up with Angela.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Let's go.

Speaker 6 (12:39):
You are a media may man, right.

Speaker 5 (12:40):
You never know what Angie's gonna say.

Speaker 7 (12:43):
Say?

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Uh oh, all right, So why you up. I'm Angela yee.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Jordan Emmanuel is here, Rob mark Min is here. We
have some journalists with us today talking about this Drake
versus Kendrick. So I want to know before we get
to the calls, because you guys gonna let us know
what you think.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Eight hundred two ninety two fifty one fifty. What do
you think?

Speaker 4 (12:59):
Rob? Straight up? I think Kendrick is up right now,
but I think both of them messed up. I think
there's a lot of muslinging and there's no receipts. I hope.
I know rappers are professional liars, but these are these
are the best guys I know. I tell the truth.
I'm one of the true ones. That's why my streams
is so low, because I just tell all about my

(13:20):
born life honor. Yeah, but these are two of the
best guys that we've ever had, especially of this generation.
But they're gonna go time as all time greats. I
hold them to a higher standard, and.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Their styles are so different. That's what makes this interesting.

Speaker 8 (13:31):
What do you think Jordan's I definitely think Kendrick is
up as well. I just want some receipts. I want
some proof, I want some timelines.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Right right, and I think, you know, I think Drake
also gives so much ammunition with just certain things that
he does and says it makes it easy to be
like make an accusation whether or not it's true.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
Well, he's the more famous one, so you see, we
just see all of his dirt. He's out there, like
drops an album and then he goes home to his
family and we don't see him for a couple of
years and you.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
Know, peaceful, yeah, until now.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
It's interesting because everybody remember they were putting Kendrick on
the clock. Kendrick doesn't drop as well, and Kendrick's been
the one bombing back.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
I feel like something's gonna come out today, and if
it does, we'll be right here for you guys.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
Now, we want to see what you think.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Eight hundred two ninety fifty one fifty blake, what are
your thoughts on Kenjack versus.

Speaker 10 (14:19):
Drake Kendrick ad By one thousand points right now?

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Tell us why because you know, and we didn't get
into this yet, but Heart Part six, the Heart Part
six came out last night.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
But why do you think.

Speaker 10 (14:30):
That their that phone is exactly why I feel like
that because he started rapping like Kendrick. Every Drake man
was talking about how Kendrick rapped too slow and he
explained too much. Drake went straight to that, and he
feels like it sounds like giving up.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Okay, because he kept saying that this is it, like
he's not gonna keep going yeah with this. And then
I also felt like he was very defensive, like trying
to respond to all these accusations Drake dudis.

Speaker 10 (14:55):
All the time, he started making their families like you
mentioned pushing White, pushing took the gloves.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
Mentioned DJ Drama Girl too back in the day. I
remember that last year I had Drama Girl. Now right now,
like this is he right, This is definitely Drake m O.
Like he go after the women that you.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Love, and I feel like he's known for like messing
with other people's women.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
Absolutely because people.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
Were okay, okay, Blake, thanks for calling. All right, Chelle,
it's me Rob and Jordan. What do you think who's
winning this battle?

Speaker 11 (15:28):
I'm gonna vote with Drake on this one because I think,
like I said, it's not a knockout right now, but
if I have to make a decision, I'm gonna go
with Drake and tell us knocking out everybody.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
Okay, you feel like it's him against the world. That's right,
all right, thank you, Cheryl, thank you? All right?

Speaker 2 (15:47):
What we're up here, Me and Jordan's and Rob. Who
do you think is winning his battle?

Speaker 4 (15:52):
Man?

Speaker 12 (15:52):
I think Drake winning, but I think a lot of
people buy it. People talk about it, say, Drake Lyon
and Drake don't got no proof, but people do. Kindred
Drake put Kendrick on his first big Ton and now
all of a sudden, Drake. This sate guy Kendren talking
about Drake being light skinning.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
But his son like, okay, yeah, people didn't like that
mixed light skin stuff.

Speaker 12 (16:13):
Kidren talking about Drake bedder. People say that could be true.
But then when he say when Drake they Kidred beat
on his girl, people say, nah, I ain't no truth.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Do you think that he shouldn't use the N word drake?
Some people like I don't never want to hear him
say that again.

Speaker 10 (16:35):
Definitely say that.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
All right, Well, thank you all. Hey, Joe, what's up?

Speaker 6 (16:39):
Hi?

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Hi Drake versus Kenjake, Me, Robin, Jordan, want to know
what you think.

Speaker 7 (16:45):
I'm glad for Kendrick with this one, because hasn't really
dropped anything that made me go.

Speaker 10 (16:51):
But now Ken Drake with the punch wise and uh stuff,
he's saying, that's pretty hard.

Speaker 6 (16:57):
It was.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
I felt like with Kenjack you had to listen to
it like multiple times to catch it too, so the
understand it.

Speaker 7 (17:03):
But when you understand it, it just blows your mind.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
You guys agree with that.

Speaker 8 (17:08):
Yeah, it's got more depth.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
Yeah, I think Kendrick is out. But it's funny the
guy Jobbrey named rhymes with Aubrey went for Kendrick. Blake
named rhyme with Drake also went for Kendrick, Like, you
know what I mean, I don't know something going on here.

Speaker 6 (17:22):
We'll talk about it.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
More when we come back.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
And to be clear, Rob has interviewed all of the
players in this, so we'll talk about that too.

Speaker 6 (17:28):
It's a way, why are you trying to change tire?
Trying to strike a chord? And it's probably a minor.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
And that's a DJ must have beat.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Is that the worst thing you can say about somebody
that they're a pedophile, because there's you know, people get
mad when you put that allegation out there if it's
not true.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
Yeah, it's pretty big that that and our culture. I
think I'm just speaking like there's no coming back from that.
You're that's it, right, But but you know what I'm saying,
like like we don't wish jail on nobody, right, like
we just talked about in our culture, it's usually how
we go except pedophiles and rapists, and it's like, send

(18:07):
him to jail and beat him up every day and right,
wish him death on people and no one feels bad
for you, and nobody feels bad for you. It is
that that's thing. Don't come off all right.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Well, let's hear what Drake had to say, because everybody
was like, wow, finally Drake had something to say.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
You know, at first we were like, when is Kendrick
gonna say something?

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Now Drake has responded, and this is the hard part
six where he basically says Kenjick was getting some fake
information that was purposely being given to him desperation.

Speaker 9 (18:33):
We plotted for a weekend, then we fed you the information.
A daughter that's eleven years old.

Speaker 5 (18:38):
I bet he takes it. We thought about.

Speaker 9 (18:40):
Giving a fake name on destination, but you so thirsty,
you have discerned with investigation.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Now, Jordan, I want to ask you this because he
said that first he caught people clowns that was given information,
but then he said he was feeding the information.

Speaker 8 (18:52):
Yeah, I think he should have put a pause on
that for a second and figured out his thoughts before
he released anything else, to be honest, because I felt
like he was a contradicting himself throughout the majority of
the song.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
And do you believe this feeding fake information?

Speaker 7 (19:05):
No?

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Sounds very convenient, Yeah, because then after that he did
go on to deny these pedophile claims, as he should.

Speaker 9 (19:14):
That's why he's panophile reps so obsessed with it's so obcessive.

Speaker 5 (19:18):
They acting like it's so aggressive.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
And yes, so he's denying those those claims. But he
also made some claims about Kendrick, right yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
Oh about the day free stuff.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Well that but then I feel like he was saying
that that something about.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
That oh oh yes, yes, yes, yes, And that's where
it kind of started from.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
Yeah, he used yeah, he did. He went into mother
may I from from MS Morale where Kendrick talks about
his mother suspected that he was getting molested, but Kendrick
said it never happened.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Right, But he kind of tried to say this is
why you're acting like this because you've been molested. People
didn't like him weaponizing that, but you know, in a
rap beef, I guess everybody's been going everywhere in this
one in particular. We're going to discuss this more, of course,
but when we come back, we're going to take a break.
We need to brief from all of the beef, and
we're going to do under the radar. These are the
stories that are not necessarily in the headlines. And you'll
be happy to know everybody in here loves David Busters,

(20:07):
and you're gonna love something that's going to be happening
there now.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
It's way up the news.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
This in the news that relates to you. These stories
are flying under the radar.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
It's a way app.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
I have Jordan Emmanuel and Rob Markman here with me
today guest hostinga We've been talking about Kendrick and Drake
all morning, but now let's switch it over to something fun.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
Please, yes, I need we need to breathe for a minute,
all right.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
Dave and Busters is planning to allow betting on arcade games.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Some people are upset.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
About it, though, but they announced that they're working with
the Entertainment Tain Lucorsports is to place wages on their
arcade games, and some lawmakers are saying they don't like it.
They said it's inappropriate for family friendly arcades to facilitate
unregulated gambling on their premises. These businesses simply do not
have the ability to oversee gambling activity in a safe
and responsible manner.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
What do you guys think about that?

Speaker 8 (20:58):
I mean, Dave and Buster's already gets pretty little late
night without the kids. Oh yes, fact, I feel like
it's already a party zone over there, So the added
gambling isn't gonna hurt anybody.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
Maybe they should make it after a certain time, right.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
I like this because ye I heard you think you
nice in the little basketball.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
Oh I'm so good at that game. I got some footage.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Yeah, I need I need to come I need to
come through. I need some chicken. I'm gonna take all
your money, you know. And they said it it's.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Real money, but it's friendly.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
Competitions an average of about ten dollars per bet. They
haven't decided what a maximum bet will be, but that
might be nice. Ye're right if it's like when the
kids aren't there and not because David Busses does turn
into an adult playground a certain time.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
Let's go. I'm want all your money.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
Okay, I don't know everything you got.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
All right, we're gonna see because let me tell you something.
The last person who bet against me lost, and that
would be Donelle Rawlings in Ping Pong.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
All right, all.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Right, well that is you're under the radar now, you know.
We got the way it mixed at the top of
the hour, and I'm really excited to have Rob Markman
here and Jordan Emmanuel here. Jordan is actually going to
be joining us all week and we're going to be
talking a lot about Martha's Vineyard, the Summer House show
that we've been watching on Bravo also streaming on Peacock.
All right, so we'll get into it with her. But
Rob Markman is here today because there was so much
activity going on with these dis is going back and forth.

(22:13):
We have more when we come back, and maybe there'll
be a new diss out by then.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Is way up.

Speaker 8 (22:19):
She's like the tut like they Angela Jean, like they
Angelie Jane, and.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
She's spilling it all This is yeaty way up.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
All right, It's way up with Angela. Yee, Angela yee.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
And of course Rob Markman is here with me today
and Jordan Emmanuel is here too, both of your journalists.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Let's get into some yeat. Did you guys watch the
Tom Brady roast?

Speaker 4 (22:41):
Yes, I saw it on the internet, the clips, the clips.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
All right, Well, there are some highlights from it. And
Kevin Hart was there and he was in rare form
as he was roasting, and I know this is definitely
his element to be able to do this. And one
of the things that he said, one of the jokes
that he had about Tom Brady, a lot of jokes
were about his x Y Giselle.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
Here's what he.

Speaker 6 (23:00):
Said, Sometimes you coached you don't who else they.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
Coach Jizelle, I mean Jesus Christ.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
Tom one of the smallest quarterbacks ever played a game.
How did you not see this coming?

Speaker 6 (23:12):
Hey?

Speaker 5 (23:13):
Karate class is good day.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
And she still wipe up eight karate classes a day.
You didn't see this coming?

Speaker 2 (23:20):
And he also talked about their divorce and how he
chose his career over his marriage.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
You know a lot with that. It happens, all right.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
In addition to that, Tom Brady at the end, of course,
got his revenge and one of them was him roasting
Kim Kardashian. And by the way, when she went up there,
she ended up getting a smattering of booze.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
But here's what he had to.

Speaker 13 (23:40):
Say, Kim Kardashian, thank you so much for being here.
I know Kim was terrified to be here tonight, not
because of this, but because her kids are home with
their dad.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
Oh, Kanye, go and get you. You left a little two
hard at that Rob.

Speaker 4 (23:59):
Again. I mean, what you're going to do, Like you said, Kanye,
go get me. It's not like you said, Maino's coming
after me.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
It is different, all right. Now.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
Another thing that happened over the weekend was the Lovers
and Friends festival in Vegas was canceled. And it was
like the day that it was happening that it got canceled.
Can you imagine people really flew out there and you know,
got all their their.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
Lodging and all of that.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
And I saw one person said she landed and turned
right back around and got on her flight because she
found out when she landed.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
But they did upgrade her.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
So she was excited about that because I guess it
was happening to a lot of people when they went
out there, so unfortunate and Mary J. Blige hopped off
the PJ. It was like, I'm here and they were like, uh,
is someone going to tell.

Speaker 4 (24:41):
Her it's Drake and Kendrick Fall. There was like, ain't
no friends and ain't no loves this week canceling this
whole thing.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
Man, But there were so many people, so many huge
stars that were going to be performing there.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
I mean, Mary J.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Blige, Gwen Stefanie, Snoop dog Ludacris, Usher, Nellie for Tato,
TLC m.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
I, Alicia Keys.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
I mean, that was a packed lineup, but usually did
a last minute Vegas show after it was canceled. Snoop
Dogg and Tea Pain performed somewhere else. They did something
too after it was canceled at IU Day Club. So
you know, people made the most of it.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
I mean, it's Vegas.

Speaker 8 (25:14):
You can't really go wrong.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
Yeah, there's always something to do with Vegas.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
Usha got to the bag. He said, I'm gonna get
a bag. Someone else. He owned that town.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
He's a king of Vegas, all right now. Somebody else
who was flying out but things didn't go so well
for him either, was Jim Jones. He ended up getting
into a brawl at the airport in Fort Larderdale.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
I don't know what happened.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
I heard that people were yelling out racial slurs to him.
But here is the Oh we don't have okay, don't
worry about it. But yeah, So after that, he did
say that he was fine, and he posted a video
of himself. But he was on the escalator and at
some point, you know, he started scuffling with people.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
Did you watch the video footage.

Speaker 8 (25:52):
He dragged He got both of them.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
Let's just put it that way.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
It's a good ww move. It was like a little
flip over fight on the escalator. That's dangerous, Like we
can't wait till we get off this escalator, enough to
bring a bag.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
On the escalator fight And he said to all my family,
I'm good, love y'all. Way too many calls and text
to reply to God is good. The airport is the
worst place. I saw a woman come over and try
to like break it up, like.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
You guys stop, but it was her job.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
It looked like she was like, I'm a stand back here.

Speaker 8 (26:22):
I would say, even though I don't get paid enough,
I'm so sorry, y'all handle.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
It, call for help.

Speaker 4 (26:26):
But to Jim's credit. He was. He sat back and
the dude still kept trying to tag him.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
So I don't know what that was about.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
It was like they were having that Mike Tyson moment,
remember when the guys were on the plane harassing Mike
Tyson And I don't remember that.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
Okay, well that is your yet.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
And when we come back, Rib Markman, since you're joining
us today, we want to make sure we get into
some of what you have going on right now so
the people know, because as soon as all this beef
was going on, I hit a bribe Barkman while I
was in Samet Thomas, and I was like, I need
you to come in to break this down for us,
and we'll tell them why you are to me one
of the authorities on everything hip hop.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
It's way up, way up with Angela ye more now.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
All right, it's way up.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
I'm Angela Gyee and right now me and Jordan Emmanuel
are putting on our interviewing hats to interview Rob Markman.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
Rob Markman, all right.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
So I want to talk about who you are because
when I first met you, where were you writing as
a journalist that you were a double XE.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
Oh that's right. Rob Markman from Double XEL.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
That's who you were, and you said, and when we
first met you was like, you look toller in your avatar.
We only knew each other from Twitter.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
Yeah, from Twitter? And then yeah, you are pretty short?
Are you a size seven?

Speaker 4 (27:35):
I'm five? Now I'm definitely. I'm definitely a size ten.
I'm above average height.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
Let's not do this all right, So I just want
people to understand.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
You know why I called you to come in today,
because you are a veteran when it comes to music,
and you're also an artist. So this is something we've
discussed previously. Was it hard for you to go from
being a writer to not presenting yourself in a different
way because you've interviewed Kendrick, You've interviewed j Cole, Mariah Carey, Drake, everybody.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
It was a little weird. I think I think it
was weirder for people. I did feel like people were like,
what the hell is he doing because you never really
saw somebody go from journalists to artists before, you know,
I think we had the Benzeno era, but that was
different that Benzino owned the source. He wasn't actually like
interviewing people, So you know, it was weird, but it
was just something I wanted to do or something I
was passionate about. I wasn't out here trying to compete

(28:27):
with nobody. I'm not out like. It's just the way
I expressed myself. You know, real ones respected. You know
what I'm saying. It's a little bit of sneaky hate
out there, like.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
What anybody we gotta do it this song about.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
Oh, there's been like a couple of subbs back and
forth like absolutely, here's what rabbits do. But it's all
it's all for the sport.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
And you know, I want to ask you this when
it comes to even speaking on like we've been talking
about Drake and Kendrick Lamar, does it get personal because
they know you and so sometimes you say something and
you give your opinion, which is fair to do. But
do they feel away because they're like man Robert though
he was cool.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
I don't know, you know, I've heard things from certain artists,
not those two particularly, like you know, I think like
when the Drake Quentin Miller, when we first found out
about Quentin Miller, and I'm giving my commentary on that,
you know, I don't think Overo liked that very much.
But you know, hey, we heard, we all heard the records.
I don't know how they feel about this. I'm not
really concerned how they feel about it. Like, my best

(29:25):
relationship right now, my most important relationship right now is
the relationship with the audience.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
Okay, all right, that's fair. You hear this journal that's journalism.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
I heard that comes first.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
And I want people to know where they because you're
a genius right now too, as an executive over at Genius,
and I use Genius all the time. It's such a
credible source. When Genius first launched, you were heavily involved.

Speaker 14 (29:47):
You know.

Speaker 4 (29:47):
I came a little bit after they launched in two
thousand and nine, and then I started in twenty fifteen.
I was part of the content, like when Genius went
from just being a website with annotations, which was a
great website and a great lyrics Yeah, right, that I start,
you know, when we started the YouTube channel and really
started the series and artists were coming in and out
of Genius.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
You would like them to start.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Of that, yeah, Genius, and you have your own platform,
so we want to make sure people know that too.

Speaker 4 (30:12):
Yeah. Absolutely, you know, It's like we do more than
one thing and as well, so I'm a genius as
an executive. And then shout to the team they do
amazing work. And then at night you know what I'm saying,
it's Rob Markman on YouTube after Dark. Yes, it's my
own content, it's my own platform. You know, my face,
my voice, my my just persona is very a very
important part of my career.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Well, let's see if you have to stay up late
tonight because we don't know if Kendrick's going to respond
to Drake, but we'll be looking to you for that commentary.
And I told you Jordan Emmanuel is here all week
and so tomorrow get ready for your in the rest
of the week for you to talk about that.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
But in the meantime, all of us are about to
get some advice.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
Eight hundred two nine fifty one fifty ask you when
we come back, any question you have, We're here to help.

Speaker 1 (30:54):
It's way up, but it's relationship for career advice. Angel's
dropping facts.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
This is what's up his way up at Angela Yee.

Speaker 2 (31:02):
I'm Angela Yee, and Rob mark minis here, Jordan Emmanuel
is here. Three different points of view for ask ye.
We have an anonymous caller on the line, what's.

Speaker 7 (31:10):
That Hi, Angela.

Speaker 15 (31:12):
So I'll have a question.

Speaker 16 (31:14):
Okay, my boyfriend, he's beautiful, he's wonderful and emotionally, but
he's complating and the sur I'm a blad woman in
the situation.

Speaker 15 (31:24):
I just want her to strive for more and want
better first.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
And Rob, as a man in the room, what do
you think there was a time when my wife made
more than me?

Speaker 3 (31:33):
But is the question how much motivation she makes?

Speaker 4 (31:36):
Because I was still out there working and hustling. I
just didn't make a.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
Lot, Okay.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
So the issue is she has a job okay.

Speaker 15 (31:45):
But it doesn't cover her with necessity. And so I
was given suggestions and advising that you can do the
help and it's falling on seth ears and I'm just
like I told way my personally because for a complaintment.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
Yeah, it's hard to be with somebody who's not motivated, right, Jordan.

Speaker 8 (32:05):
Have you tried positive affirmations. I'm just trying to encourage
him to do more.

Speaker 15 (32:11):
Yeah, I'm affirmation, I advice suggestions, and I'm like it's
starting to make me in this situation a little bit
and I don't know what to do.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
You know, and that's I'm gonna say this.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
There's something in him that makes him scared to try,
because some people are really scared of failure and being
told no and putting themselves out there. And then some
people like you have to learn in order to be great,
you have to be told no, you know a whole
lot of times, and some things aren't going to work out,
and you have to learn to have thick enough skin
to be okay with that, dust yourself off and keep going.

(32:48):
And some people are like, I'm not even going to
try because I don't want to fail.

Speaker 15 (32:53):
I've told him that.

Speaker 16 (32:54):
I told him I've failed before. But then once I
go's to the point where I was winning, never stopped,
and I'm like, I didn't come from it the store
I work though, because I have.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
And you know, you're right, the resentment is gonna come.
I've dated somebody who I didn't feel like was motivated enough.
You see how much I work, all three of us,
and you too, anonymous caller. I know, like you said,
you've been working really hard. Do you want to see
somebody that's like always putting themselves out there? Is he
in a job where he could actually get a promotion,
or make more or do more?

Speaker 4 (33:24):
Not really, you also need to ask yourself because and
determine at what point he is in life and if
you think he's actually gonna change, because you need to
be fair for yourself and fan to the relationship too,
because what you're talking about resentment in a relationship, that's
a deadly word because that resentment builds and builds in
festers and then years you turn around and the love

(33:47):
just isn't the same. So at Lasia being honest about
the resentment that you feel. But you you're gonna have
to determine is he in a rough past right now
and it could get better or is this just who
he is? And then you might have to make your decison.
And I hate to say it.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Yeah, because at this point it's on you. If you
feel like I'm giving him, you know, time, and I've
tried to help and just nothing's working.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
I don't know that you want to drag yourself down.

Speaker 15 (34:12):
Yeah, that's what I feel like, because it's been eight months.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
Now, eight months?

Speaker 2 (34:16):
All right, Well, look, you did everything that you could
potentially do. Now it's on him, and I'm gonna tell
you the truth. Sometimes when you have to leave somebody
because they're not doing what they need to do for themselves,
because it's not even just for you. But if he's
not there for himself, he can't be there in the relationship.
Then you know, maybe he'll pull himself together because he
might be using you as a crutch right now too,
Oh God, thank you. All right, Well, do what you

(34:39):
gotta do for yourself, girl. He's doing what he needs
to do for himself.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
Which ain't much. All right.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
Well, eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty is
a number in case you couldn't get through. You can
leave a message for ask ye or call us. We're
here for you and when we come back.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
We told you. Jordan Emmanuel is here. She'll be here
all week.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
If you watch Summer House Martha's Vineyard, We're gonna have
some things to talk about with her, but also off
the show, what you have going on?

Speaker 5 (35:00):
It's way up this yeah, yeah, more, way up with now.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
All right, it is way up. I'm angela yee. Rob
Markman is here with me, and now Jordan Emmanuel is
on the hot seat.

Speaker 8 (35:15):
I'm ready.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
All right, Well listen, I've been watching you on Summer
House Martha's Vineyard and I know we're going to have
a lot of topics from the show, but this is
about you and how you even ended up on that show,
what you were doing before that. And I know I've
seen interviews that you've done, especially the one in Essence
where you talked about being the Playmate of the Year, right,
and that was for obviously for Playboy, but then also

(35:38):
being celibate, yes, for a year. So I want to
talk about that journey that you had because when I
think of Playboy, I don't think of many black women
that have been able to grace the covers and even
be Playmate of the Year.

Speaker 6 (35:52):
Right.

Speaker 8 (35:52):
There's only been four of us, and I'm the very last,
So I can't they say the best for a last No,
that's right, And it was a very empowering experience. I
think a lot of people look at Playboy and think about, oh,
it's for the men's entertainment, and I think they underestimate
how many women are empowered by just being in their bodies.

(36:12):
And we curate our shoots, we're active parts of our
experience there and I wrote my own article, so to me,
it was a very empowering relationship and it continues to
be and you.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
Went to the University of Miami. Yes, so let's talk
about your majors.

Speaker 8 (36:28):
Okay, So I studied broadcast journalism, music business, and art history.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
I love it. That's how I ended up here now.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
And when they said that, I was like, yeah, she
has to be, you know, on here because we're going
to have you guest hosting this week and you also DJ.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
Yes, you're like the ultimate woman.

Speaker 8 (36:46):
You know, I'm trying to be. I'm trying to be.
That's what I strive to be, you know. I feel
like when you know, TRL and things like that were
really popping, and like VH one was really still about
the music. I just missed that level of this dolga
and thoroughness with music and pop culture in general. So
I just want to bring that back.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
Now, let's talk about this year celibacy that you did
and what made you decide to do that being in.

Speaker 8 (37:10):
Terrible situationships, you know how we usually have to take
a little break from dating, relationships, dating sex, all those things,
and I just wanted to focus on me, and so
to me, I'm like, let me take the distractions off
the table. Let me get refocused on what I'm trying
to prioritize and what I'm not going to continue to
fall for.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
All right, And on Summer House Martha's Vineyard, you were
really good friends with was it Jazmin? Yeah, you and
Jasmine were really close, but then she ended up getting
married and even though she knew you were celibate. Yeah,
she definitely was trying to hook you up.

Speaker 8 (37:42):
Yeah. Yeah, and you know, there was really no hook
to be hooked on at the house at the time,
so it caused some complications for sure.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
And so one of the things that she feels is
that you guys aren't as close as it used to
be a season two now season one, you guys were
a lot closer, and now it's you know, you're not
necessarily calling her in between taping.

Speaker 8 (38:04):
Yeah, we're figuring it out. You know, when people go
through differences in relationships and in life, like you either
come together or you kind of spread apart. It's kind
of a natural part of getting older and lives changing.
So we're trying to figure it out.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
Now.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
Rab have you ever watched Summer House Marthas Vineyard And
it's okay if you haven't, No.

Speaker 4 (38:20):
I haven't. I'm sorry to say that not too late.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Yeah, cat swatch.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
This is the perfect time because it's only on season two,
like halfway through, so you can catch up on season one.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Right, you can probably finish it in like a couple
of days.

Speaker 4 (38:36):
Well, it depends on how busy they.

Speaker 3 (38:39):
Yes, how was it being in a house for fifteen
days straight with men and women?

Speaker 4 (38:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (38:45):
It was a lot, But you know, I went to
boarding school, so I feel like I had the skills
and the experience to deal with it.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
But it's a lot.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
All right, Well, we're going to be talking to you
all throughout the week about different topics.

Speaker 3 (38:55):
On the show.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
You were very open about a lot of things, including
the fact that you have alopecia, and so I want
to make sure we make that a topic of discussion
because that's something that was definitely in the headlines and
it did bring a lot of attention to that too.
But I want to talk about your experience throughout the week.
But guys, make sure you follow her. She's going to
be here all week. She'll be here tomorrow for Siete
de Maino as well. And listen when we come back,

(39:18):
you guys get to have the last word.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
It's way up.

Speaker 5 (39:21):
Pick up the phone to get your voice heard. What
the word he is the last word on Way up
with Angela Ye.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
What's up his way?

Speaker 2 (39:29):
You put Angela Angela yee and Jordan Emmanuel is here.
She'll be guest hosting all week, Yes, a week and
Rob Markman, you guest hosted today.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
You got to come back more often.

Too, you know, sing then if I put up the
best single, I'm coming all.

you today.

Speaker 8 (39:48):
You might be here tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
If puss on, you might be up late tonight and
back here tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
Like all right, So Kenjuck put this out, and then
Jake put out a check and then Kenjock put out
four more.

Speaker 4 (39:57):
Yeah, you can catch me on YouTube. Rob Markman on you.
As soon as the track drops, I'm on it and listen.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
And to be clear to everybody listening, every time something's
happening when it comes to these tracks, I go to
Rob Markman's page on Instagram to see what his breakdown
is of everything, because it's journalistic. It's not just WHOA,
that was dope? That was crazy? It's like breaking down
the why.

Speaker 4 (40:18):
Yeah, now we need more of that. Journalism is under
a tat not just in our music space, but the
political spectrum all across the world. This election is going
to be a doozy like journalism is in trouble, objectivity
is in trouble. So you know, I just try to
do the very best that I can.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
All right, Well, we appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
So make sure y'all check out Rob Markman and he'll
definitely be back up here and Jordan Emmanuel. Tomorrow we're
going to be doing de Maino, probably because if Mano
comes in, we got to celebrate because we weren't here
for single DeMaio r so cieta de Maino possibly tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
Are you ready for that?

Speaker 8 (40:51):
I'm trying to get prepared, okay, all right, I'm trying
to get prepared.

Speaker 3 (40:55):
All right, Well, you guys have a great day.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
A lot of people called into weigh in on what
they think thought about the beef, and of course y'all
have the last word.

Speaker 14 (41:03):
Yo, yo, Yo, what up? World?

Speaker 7 (41:04):

I feel like he's bowing out.
