Dr. Toomey was appointed commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health by Governor Brian Kemp in March of 2019. Shortly after, she became a household name as Georgia's chief medical office during the coronavirus pandemic. She oversees 159 county health departments in 18 health districts, and various public health programs. Dr. Toomey joins Kristen Gates on International Women's Day to discuss the stereotypes women in medicine have endured and how women bring something special to the table when it comes to management.
