Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Cody Cast. This is Cody Allen's podcast Dustin Lynch.
On this podcast, We've been on some crazy adventures over
the years with d L from Mexico on zip lines,
through the jungle there, insane and swimming with dolphins. How
can we forget h Plus, he's a really good dude,
down to earth, so great on stage. Ladies love him.

(00:22):
Some guys too. A top ten song right now thinking
about you, and he's with us right now. Yo. There
he is, Dustin Bartholomew Lynch, the third What is I
don't even know what is your middle name? Charles? Charles? Okay,
would you? I didn't hear you? Did you? Did I
hear Bartholomew? I thought it was yeah. I wasn't sure,

(00:45):
but this is it was a guess. I'm excited because
I'm just the learning news here that you and I
will be together once again. It Crashed by playa Luke
Bryan's big fest in Mexico. You're headlighting one of the nights,
so I know you are like founding member of this
whole thing. He's made you like mayor of Crash my player.

(01:05):
I'm on the janitorial staff. In case you're wondering, but no, seriously,
I know the event means a lot to you. You're
you're ready. I'm so ready. Yeah, the band and I've
already started brainstorming. Um, how in the world we we
put on a show that's to the level of Luke
Bryan and Jason al Dean's because that's the other headliners.
It feels just bizarre to be, uh, to have my

(01:27):
name up there with those guys, two guys that I've
looked up to my whole career. So it's it's amazing.
I can't wait to go down. It'll be special as always.
I guess it's different because the crowd will be in
sand this time instead of in a pool like you
usually play that big pool party and it's like, you know,
everybody's peene in the pool. It's like really disgusting. But um, nonetheless,
you'll be on the stand this staff and actually, you

(01:48):
know you've been on the before, Like now it's more
like a cat litter box. You know, you can see
and then scratch and kick it out, you know, kick
the stand over and you're good. It is the best
time ever. I totally missed it this year. I'm just
not being able to go and my liver did not
miss it, but I did miss it. Yeah, I feel
like we probably had a little bit, you know, if
we were to take blood work in February, I bet
our numbers were a lot better this past year. Is

(02:10):
it nice cleansing of the body the topic? Anyway? Congratulations?
Add the big single, thinking about You, your latest with
McKenzie Porter. Originally on the album with Lauren Elena, but
I really love Mackenzie's voice on it. She's up. She
brought kind of a different feel to it. Did you
feel that way too, It's like just a different kind
of vibe. Yeah, it is, you know, just a quick

(02:30):
fun fact here we we kind of after realized we
couldn't release it with Lauren Lena, I submitted to Nashville artists,
Hey who wants to jump on this song and put
it out as a single, And we got a lot
of submissions, and uh, I blindly picked. I had all
the names removed from the submissions, and Mackenzie is who
I gravitated towards just because of how um vulnerable and
effortless her voice. Seeing that she has like this smoky

(02:52):
tone that you can't you're just born with You're not
you can't learn that or teach yourself that. So she's
got a special voice, very identifiable, and I think she's
she's got a lot of great thing is coming away.
I like her to. Um, smys are coming up. You
guys are gonna perform the song on the show. Now
you've you've been on the show before? Have you performed? Though? Yeah,
it'll be my first time I was up there. Gosh,

(03:12):
this is I think I presented the last time I
was up there. Um, so yeah, but first performance and
and really excited. Um. We you know what's great about performing?
I'm not that nervous because on the road I've been
pulling a member of the crowd up on stage every
night to perform McKenzie's part. So I have a lot
of experience do edding this on stage with people that

(03:33):
are excellent karaoke singers. So I don't think anything's gonna
throw me for a loop. Yeah. No, butterflies, I guess
there has to be some butterflies there. Right, there's a
little bit of anxiousness no matter how like pro you are,
and you're a total pro on stage, but um, I
mean at least I would be that way even Still, really,
what all. The only thing I worry about is it's

(03:55):
not my normal staging, So you know, I'm worried about
where I'm stepping and if up or fall. That's that's
about it. I mean, other than that, you got a
crowd out their lights band, I mean, let's let it rip.
Luke Brian will host the show this year, the semas Um,
which I'm so excited about. I mean his ability though,
you know, while a crowd and entertain is so great.
He has he has great jokes. I would say that

(04:15):
his best jokes are probably inappropriate for TV. Would you
agree with that if people knew the off camera, Um,
Luke Bryan, Yes, we would have to. We would have
to have a bit of an edit button. But you
know he's he's a pro um, he'll turn it on
and he's an American Idol judge, come on, he's He's
gonna be just fine for the job. I think. Meanwhile,
you will play on the five thousand broadcast of the

(04:37):
Opry this weekend. Um. I know that's another huge thing.
What does it mean stepping on that stage every time,
and especially on the five thousand, Well, just to see
my name on the lineup for such a a moment,
you know, um, with lights of Garth Brooks and Trissy
Yearwood and and Darius and and all the greats. Um,

(04:58):
I don't have to list in front of me, so
I'm skipping a bunch of them. But is an amazing thing.
I can't out of all the members, why me? Why
do they ask me? You know? It's it's it's one
of those, uh, one of those honors that I'm not
taking lightly. And I already know what we're doing. You know,
we've we've kind of started rehearsing for It's gonna be
a very special night and I'm much much so looking
forward to. Will there be some surprises? I mean obviously

(05:18):
you'll see I'm guessing a hit or two of your own,
but something that we don't know going in there. Yeah,
there's gonna be some collapse. Um. Now, I don't know
how how much of a part other artists have in
the show. I know what I'm doing, UM, And I'm
gonna get to come out with with some legends and
do a collaboration and um, and then we've got a
couple of tricks up our sleeve I don't want to
give away. Are gonna be very special for for myself

(05:43):
and families. So, um yeah, June him, I'm loving it
all right. I also love the new song with Riley
Green you put out recently, hunting Land, which UM to me, Man,
I hope and wish this was a single because I
think that song is so good I wanted to be
heard by everybody. UM, and it's so you can clever.
I mean, so tell me about the song, where it

(06:03):
came from, and sort of, uh, why you're released and
why Riley? Yeah, okay, great question. UM. So we're actually
in my basement and in my house in Nashville writing
another song, and one of my buddies that I write
along the songs with actually wrote think about You with UM.
We'll hold on a second. It's the same same group
of guys I thinking About You with Rhad hunting Land.
UM had this just kind of threw out this idea

(06:24):
randomly and we laughed and we're like, man, we can't
write that? Can we write that? And then we uh
we we kind of finished that the song we were
working on them, and we start going by and we
start sending names, We start making names about the hunting
Land song title and what it could be about, right,
and we land on the fact that hey, it's this

(06:44):
guy that's putting up with a girl that maybe his
friends don't like or you know, all the all the
you know kind of earning. I guess Brownie points a
few wheels so you can go hunting. What if it
what if her dad has the land? And then it
was like hit, chang, there it is. That's the idea.
So we came back into the studio and I kind
of played the guitar part. I just wanted to be
a hard hit and kind of backbeat thing, and um,

(07:07):
off to the races where we went. We actually the
song fell out pretty much no time, and uh, we
knew what a special right away. It's just one of
those that you just could tell, you know, this is unique.
It's an UNIQ take on on a title. Hadn't heard
it before, and those are those are hard to find.
Um and and I teased immediately. I sent my buddy
up in Kentucky, Um, who's who's got a beautiful wife?
And I said it, I said, this one's about you, guys,

(07:30):
So it's gotta Actually got a FaceTime from her or
from his father in law, her dad a couple of
weeks ago, and he goes hey, am I getting into
royalties for this, so it definitely made its way up
the food chain up there. It's a it's a fun
one again. It's called hunting Land and why yeah. So
the song is just lighthearted, you know, it's just the song.
I'm figured out that this would be more fun to
do it with a buddy, and Riley Green is is

(07:52):
a huge outdoorsman. Um, He's got a great presence on
Outdoor Channel and a great following in that world. So
it just felt can uh the right ask for me
and um, and luckily he was able to do it
with us and come out. And I'll tell you a
little fun factory about shooting that video if any anyone's
seen it or hasn't seen it. The video was shot
at my farm in Tennessee, and um, it was a

(08:14):
great day for me because I just put Riley Green
to work. Um. I had a lot of chores I
needed to get knocked out before hunting season came, and
Riley got the I guess the short end of that stick.
So we had a productive day on the farm and
got a music video out of it too. Nice. Um,
you've trickled out a few songs over the past year,
one with Chris Lane, now with Riley Green and some
others along the way. It's will there be a new release?

(08:36):
Will it be from Tallahoma? Are you thinking something completely
fresh is coming? After thinking about your where you at
sort of musically? Yeah, if I'm a betting man, it's
gonna be something completely fresh, because after I get off
the phone with you here, Um, we're going to the
studio in studio a week. So yeah, we got a
big week or recording. I've got a lot of new
music that I've been working on over the past couple
of years, and you know, no excuses there. We had

(08:57):
plenty of time at home to do so. Um. So
I think gonna be something brand new off a new project.
Um that will be coming out at the first first
quarter of the two, I believe. So let's talk holidays
real fast. Um, what do you look forward to most
this time of year? As we're starting to wind down
after Halloween, get the Thanksgiving, Christmas? Um what what? What
part of what aspect of all all the holidays do

(09:18):
you look forward to most? Yeah, So we stayed pretty
busy and gone most of the year and then, um,
you know, most of the time I touring world slows
down come in of October, you know, CMA's kick off November.
We may have a handful of shows here and there,
but it's all about catching up with the family and uh,
spending more time with my niece and nephew and parents, um, grandparents.
So the holidays are a great obviously a great reason

(09:40):
to get together. But outside of the actual holidays, um,
you know, I've put a lot of preparation into my
farm and just having them up to uh to take
them around on the farm and and just have some
great days. So that's what I'm looking forward to. Are
you hosting them? You're hosting the family at your place? Yeah,
we're gonna be. I'll definitely be hosting them there. We've
we finally got um, I built a little like a

(10:00):
pull barn, if you will, and it's got uh, you know,
we just put together the big green egg. I've got
it actually got a freaking hot tub on the porch.
So we're getting a red neck set up for a
good winter out there. And what do you call that,
by the way, a pull barn? What was that pull barn? Yeah,
like a metal you see, like the metal pull barns
um kind of like a barn house if you will. Yeah. Cool.

(10:22):
So what's your goat to dish on the holiday dinner table?
I mean what? First of all, tell what the go
to is, and then what you will actually make, because
if you're hosting at your house, your you gotta be
cooking a little bit, right. Yeah, I'll probably I'll definitely
do the grilling of of wild game. If there's any
wild game involved, I will do it. I've got um,
probably elk on the menu this year, believe it or not. Um,

(10:42):
so that that'll probably be what I'm in charge of.
And elk is a pretty mild taste, right if I'm
remembering right, it's not a it's not a gaming taste
at all. No, you know it's it's not beef, it's
not fatty there. There's hardly any fat milk. So it's
a little bit tougher. But if you if you know
that going into it, um, I love it. I would
howard for her to eat elk over beef steak, believe
it or not. Um, and then you know it's not

(11:05):
I can't really consider watching football properly unless I have
a little velvita rotell uh dip going on. I'll add
a little spicy sausage in there, and so I'll I'll
between backstrap of deer elk and um eating my weight
in Velveta cheese. That's probably probably what I'm going to
be in charge of it. And that always hits the spot.

(11:25):
What is it about Velvita too, It's like it's not
like normal cheese. It's so probably it's not. Yeah, it's
space food. I don't know what it is, you know,
so you know it's good for you, exactly. Funny story,
a real quick you know that little egg compartment in
the refrigerator, you know, usually at the top is like
a little flip sort of see through tray. My partner

(11:46):
he thought that was for Velvita. That's how that's where
his mom put the Velvita. He had no idea it
was actually for eggs. Like it was the very Velvita drawer.
That's how much he had it when he was a kid.
We always you know, none of you say that, And
I'm glad that Trade's mom is not the only one.
My mom always had vil Vita in the fridge. It

(12:06):
was just I guess we had a lot of mac
and cheese back in the day. You know, now, it's
gone to cheese dip. But but back in the day
it was mac and cheese. Yeah, easy go to. Are
you talked about new music in two? I did want
to ask about the new year and sort of your
goals coming into the new year. Since is almost here,
obviously new stuff, what else do you want to accomplish?
You know, this is a really fun time for me

(12:27):
and the band guys because of the momentum we're having.
We think about you, um, you know, really taking that
year off and and and and getting to go back
to the drawing board in the studio. Um, it's just
all about the build for us. We're seeing now back
on the road, We're seeing we're coming back to crowds
that were not really used to having big sold out crowds,
were watching the tickets sell and and that that thing grow,

(12:51):
you know, and and people wanting to come see us live.
So I think in two is just hang on and
enjoy the ride, enjoy this waver on and continue to
put the best show all we can. Um. Outside of that,
I really want to continue. Um. This is not music related,
but something I've really been working hard at is getting
my my private pilot's license. So um, yeah, I'm I'm

(13:12):
I'm chipping away at that. We we ran into a
plane issue. Um, nothing dangerous, just I had a plane
and then uh we had to had to have it overhauled.
So I don't have a plane currently, but I'm looking
to get it back and get my hands on a
plane so I can continue that journey. Is that scary
at all? I mean it's yeah, yeah, right, yeah, I
mean it is. Uh. You know, after learning to fly

(13:33):
and being able to fly now comfortably, you realize how
safe airplanes are. Um, they really are, even with no mode,
no engine, no power. Um, if you do the right things,
you can land safely. So that's that's comforting, you know.
I mean us two on commercial flights and I I felt
any bump, I thought we were falling out of the sky.
And when you start flying smaller planes, you realize that
big bumps aren't even a big deal. So, uh, it's

(13:55):
it's you look at as a free roller coaster ride
if you get one. Listen, I'm gonna send you a
in my book. I'll text you when we're done here,
and I thank you so much. Yeah, I was gonna
ask you about that. Can you can you kind of
fill me in. Oh yeah, so over the pandemic. It's
basically what I spent my extra time doing. You know,
like all of us, we had so much extra time.
And I've been working on it for a long long
time and years and years and years, and I finally

(14:16):
you know, all my country music adventures, many of them,
by the way, with you I talked about in the
book as well as you know, the crossing paths with
the with the stars like I do, and just my
journey being so weird and unique, and I just wanted
to share the whole thing. So listen. I always love
catching up. It's been forever, Dustin. I haven't seen you,

(14:36):
like in person, for it's been two years. It has Yeah,
you know, I've been I've been working hard, so hopefully
haven't changed much. Well, I will see I've probably gotten
maybe a little bit smarter being I'm learning how to ply,
but that's about it, right. I'll see at the seams though,
I'll be there, so um, I'll look for you. Thanks,
take care alright. This has been Cody cast to subscribe
