Speaker 1 (00:00):
Podcasting from Welcome to Cody Allen's podcast This Podcast with
Cole Swindel and Laney Wilson. We taped the week leading
up to Thanksgiving and it was so cool to talk
to them. The week also that they released their Brandon
song Never Say Never, Great duet with Cole and Laney.

(00:21):
Good morning, Hey, Hey, what's up? Cole A lady? How
you doing? We're great? How are you doing? I'm doing good.
I'm sipping on some Have you done the bone broth
diet before either one? Oh my gosh, man, that sounds terrible.
Somebody's tried to get me to do that when I
was feeling well or something, but I didn't know it
was a diet. But I was like, I just can't
drink bone broth. But I heard it it works, wonders.

(00:43):
I don't know. It's supposed to be great, And I
thought leading up to Thanksgiving, where I plan on just
being a pig, I'm gonna try to do it for
a couple of days here, just to kind of lean
up a little bit. It's not terrible, guys, It's not terrible.
I'll tell you. UM just sounds terrible. It just sounds
it's the bone yeah, exactly, congratulated song. This duet is

(01:04):
so great and right out of the box, it's doing
great for you guys, I've never saying never now, first, Cole,
you you co wrote the song, So tell me what
sort of inspired it. Yeah. I was out on toured
late two thousand and eighteen. It was the last show
we were in actually Laney's home state of We're in
New Orleans though, and played a played a show, but
I was out writing with Jesse Alexander Chase McGill and

(01:28):
we just I think Jesse had this this title, this
idea in her phone and I love that. But then
we started writing and they were like, hey, have you
ever had a just with the idea never say never
with you? Have you ever had a duet? And I
was like no. I was like, that's something that I've
always wanted to do, you know. So we wrote it
knowing that it had to be a duet. Just the
way it's written, that's something that makes it unique, just

(01:49):
the kind of uh, I mean, Laney starts the song off,
you know, and it's just kind of back and forth,
back and forth, and so we knew we had to
find somebody a special to to sing on it and
it it took a little bit and it's just the time.
I mean, could not be more perfect with her coming
off of her song and me off mine, and here
we are with the due. It's a great song and
it does take me to the like baby it's cold outside,

(02:09):
kind of that back and forth. And it's so unique
because I heard Lanny sing and then all of a sudden,
cold picks up the next line. It's just so cool.
So um obviously had to be a duet. So Landy,
what do you think when you first heard the song? Well,
I was actually taking my first vacation I had taken
in a while. Um, I was in Mexico, my first
vocational like ten years, and I was sitting there drinking

(02:31):
a Pinny Colada and Cold texted me, completely interrupted me,
and um, you know, I normally write all of my
own stuff, and when people pitch me music, I definitely
you know, if I cut it, I want to make
sure that I feel like I could have written it,
you know. I want to feel like connected and just
you know, like it just needs to feel real to me.

(02:54):
And I listened to the first verse and chorus and
knew immediately that this song was special, and I mean,
so many people have been here before, and you know,
we've all gone back to things that we know we
shouldn't have. Um but I could not tell him yes
quick enough And it had nothing to do with a
Penny Colotta. I don't know, but it was it was.
It was nerve wracking, but at least she said yes,

(03:15):
and uh, it's out there now, so cool. Why was
leading the right pick to seen with you on this one?
You know, I think just the type of song it is,
and and just finding somebody that could sing it and do, like,
you know, bring to the table what it needed. I
think just that edgy noess it. But also she's country,
and I just I was just a fan, to be
honest with you. I've I love her music, lover album
and more than just her first number one, you know,

(03:38):
just there's a lot of songs on there that I
love and uh, you know, when we her name popped up,
I was like, God, I hope, I hope we can
figure out how to do this, and it just so happened,
you know. She was her song was almost the number one,
and I was in between singles and it just kind
of timing was everything. But also the main thing is
just that I wanted to do it with somebody that
that I was a fan of and that I already

(03:59):
was pulling for, And it's just, um, I think it's
gonna do big things for both of our careers. The
first line of a song is, um, I told my mom,
I said, yeah, what I say. I was like, there
and nobody in the world that can sing that better
than you. She's sitting right there, so that's probably you
have a great, great answer. By the way she's in
the rooms, that's probably exactly what you should appreciate. That

(04:19):
Are you guys never saying every kind of people? I mean, like,
is there anything that you would definitely say you'd never
try or attempt or anything like that. Um, I feel
like I'm a pretty spontaneous person. I feel like I
will try everything once or at least think about it. Yeah,
somebody mentioned some about sky diving early, and I just can't.

(04:41):
I think Lanny might would do it. I don't. I
don't know that I would. I don't know if I
could do that, But I like to be spontaneous for sure,
so I don't. I probably should say never. Two more
things other than that, I think I'm I'm a what's
one thing you never leave home without? Never leave home
with deodorant? Yeah, that's that's really good. Um my bill bottoms,

(05:09):
I never leave the house. You love those bill bottoms?
Doing you and tell me why? Because not that they're
not in style, they definitely are and seems like that
whole thing that's coming back, but uh, you're definitely stepping
out with it. I think first, you're you're setting a trend. So,
um why, I've always been a fan of bill Bottoms.
I mean I had this leopard pair of just like

(05:31):
they were blue leopard that my mama bought. Man, I
would wear them all the time, and finally she was like, Okay, Laney,
you gotta take these off, like we need to wash them. Um.
But I've just always been a sucker for things that
are thrownback, and so I started wearing like I've always
had flair jeans and stuff like that. But I really
wanted to kind of just stand apart, you know. And

(05:52):
so about six years ago, I got rid of all
my skinny jeans. I sent them home to Louisiana, and
my granny made them into bill bottoms. She like sewed
fabric into the sides start starting. You're the real deal.
Earlier Cold never leaves home without his skinny jeans, so
that just yeah, there we go. Yeah, so somebody's got
to have some flair in there, you know. May I'm

(06:13):
just yeah, getting close to Thanksgiving obviously a few days
away here. So favorite food on Thanksgiving or Christmas? I mean,
what's your like go to holiday food? Guys, I'm cold?
You want to start us? Yeah, I mean, I honestly
love all that's the terrible ones. I love all of it,
but I mean probably the deep fried turkey and then
but just the dressing as long as you've got some

(06:33):
good dressing with gravy over the top of it. I'm
I'm looking forward to all of that, though. We're making
me hung in the cornbread dressing this year. I don't
know if you had Oh oh my god, that is good.
I'm coming to your house with some bone broth on top.
Just kidding a lady, how about you? I love my
Granny's uh famous chicken and dump ones, and we might

(06:55):
have some like crawfish at toufe or Jumala. Are our
Thanksgivings and Christmas is are a little different, you know, um,
just because you know Louisiana is full of good food.
Yeah some fried Gator maybe. I don't know, we might
who knows. Hey, listen, love you guys. Both of you
just so great and I love this song. So we're
gonna give you lots of love and support. And I
can't wait to see in person real soon. So you'll

(07:16):
take care of holiday. Hey, brother, I just want to
say thank you so much for the book and the
nice another you sent. Man. I hadn't been I thought
I had your number. I've been made to the textures.
I just wanted to say that before we left, and
we we hope you have a happy Thanks good brother,
congrats on everything. I appreciate your support in the book.
