Speaker 2 (00:22):
Okay, you had a good time. Did it exceed expectations?

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Did it?

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Was it worse than you thought? Give me a report.

Speaker 4 (00:30):
It exceeded expectations for me because all these people kept saying, Oh,
the lineup's not as good, it's not as good this year.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
I'm like, what the hell are people talking about? This
was amazing?

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Nice?

Speaker 4 (00:41):
I saw Victoria Monet Thames from rain aw Rap brought
out cash Show, which was really fun, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Sublime, pretty cool line of Zarrapp brought out Shakira. I
was like, well, yeah, young Miko, it was amazing And
how was.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
I'm I was curious about the bathroom situation. How was
the bathroom situation? Were you able to go and not
stand in the line for an hour? And because that's
important to me.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
No problems really yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Oh well, then this is not as bad as I thought. Okay,
now that we got that out.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Yeah it was. Yeah, people are like, oh, it's going
to be so crad.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
I mean I have been going to a lot of
DM festivals over the last year, so I think I
was like used to that kind of climate environment already, right,
and so I felt that home.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Okay, good for you.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Well, you were returning to American and Idle tonight to
perform your new single.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
How are you feeling.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
I'm feeling great. I'm excited at It's been like over
a decade since I've sung one of my own songs
on idols, so this will be really fun.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
And I can't believe it's been sixteen years since you
originally competed. What's the one memory is six out the most?

Speaker 4 (01:58):
Oh gosh, I would say probably singing Imagine, because that
was the one that the most people come up to
me and still talk about. Like, I didn't realize how
big of a moment it would be. I thought, I
literally thought I was going to be voted off that
week because it was seventies week. Everyone was singing disco
and rock songs. I was like, oh my gosh, I'm

(02:18):
going to put everyone to sleep. But it ended up
being what stuck with people the most.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
You've stayed in Have you stayed in contact with anyone
during that time?

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
I still talked to David Cook were White.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Nice.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
I just saw Paula Abdul recently. We were doing TikTok together.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Nice. I did a tribute for her.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
She won an Ally Award at the Querity Awards, and
I surprised her with a medley of her songs and
I even learned her choreo and everything.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
It was really fun.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Hey, all right, man, well it's so sweet.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
She is very sweet.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
The new single is Held Together. What inspired this song?

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Yeah? Held Together?

Speaker 4 (02:56):
It was based off of texts I got from my mom. Actually,
because we grew super devout to our faith. We grew
up it was Mormon's Latter Day Saints, and I left.
I came out as queer. I tried to stay true
to my faith in my religion, but it just got
to point where I'm like, you know, this is too much.
I'm just gonna step away. And when and then People

(03:19):
Magazine announced it, I wasn't expecting them to. They did,
and I was just like, oh shoot, I didn't hear
from my mom for like three days.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
I'm like, she's pissed.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
And then I finally get a text from her and
she said, hey, I'm stepping away from the church's well
and I was like what, Like we were my job
is dropped and I was like, what do you mean?
And she said, I don't want to be somewhere where
you don't feel my children don't feel loved and accepted,
and if you're going to hell, then we're all going
to hell with you. And I was really touched by it.

(03:50):
So I was like, you know what I'm going to write.
I'm going to write a song about that. So I
did and it's Hell Together.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
And it's Hell Together. Well, that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
I had a beautiful gesture there from mom.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Is this part of an album?

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Possibly?

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Or you have other music in the works or we
don't know yet.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Possibly.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
I'm actually about to release another song and planning on
so it'll I'm releasing new music.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Whether it's an AP or an.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Album, I haven't decided yet, but I am writing a
lot and excited to get this next song.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Help Together, I felt like was a more triumphant song.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Like Okay, Hey, I'm moving forward and if we're going
to how we're going to help together? This next one
is like a little more depressing, maybe not depressing, but
it's it's more like vulnerable.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
I wrote it before I wrote.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Hell Together, so it's more in my feels and like
insecurities and all that. But I still really like the
song and wanted people to hear it.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
So good for you.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
You're thinking about any live shows are you gonna be
performing over the summer.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
I will be doing some Pride events. I'm going to
like Wisconsin.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
Actually I don't know if they've been announced yet, but
I will be doing some Pride shows and looking forward
to that. I've only done I've done two Prides ever,
Like I've only attended and performed at two Pride events,
and I'm excited to do more.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
It's a new thing for me, so I really enjoy it.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
And you're also working on a memoir, correct.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
I am, yeah, fun working on a book.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
I'm like working on it today, like I've been writing.
It's hard. Like sometimes she's like, oh gosh, like this
is yes, I'm not a writer, like a book writer,
and so it's like, oh my gosh, how do you
stay focused to write hundreds of pages. But I do
work with an editor. She lets me write everything. I
was like, I'm like, let me do it by myself
because I was inspired by my friend. Do you know

(05:43):
Janette McCurdy. I'm glad my mom died. She was like,
we're talking about life, and she's like, have you thought
about writing a book? I was like, well, I have it,
and she's like, I want to connect you with my book.
My people they're amazing. I think you need to write
a book. And I was like, okay, And so now
I work with the team, work with their amazing mainstay.
And Janette wrote her book herself. So I was like, okay,

(06:05):
I'm going to do the same. And it's hard, but
I feel like it's been really worth it. I'm already
like on chapter twenty three right now, and it's been good.
It was hard to start it, though, yeah, but I
almost gave up. I was like, screw this, I'm not
gonna do it anymore.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
You got to you got to see it through. I'm
sure it's both fun and uh therapeutic. So congrats on that, man. Listen,
thank you.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Have you done one?

Speaker 4 (06:29):
I have?

Speaker 3 (06:30):
As a matter of fact, I did it. Oh my gosh,
I did a memoir.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah, yeah, I'm a little I should read you though,
but you should give it a read.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Do you have an audio? Do you have an audiobook
of it? I do? I yes, yeah, okay, I I've
been I've been listen. I've been listening to the couple.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
I listened to Jeanette's too while I read it because
it helps me focus. I have such a hard time focusing.
So okay, if I listened to it, then I can
read it.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Check it out. Then next time I see them, mask you,
what's up?

Speaker 1 (06:53):
