(00:01):
Listen. I know it's going tobe quick, and he's on a tight
schedule. When he when before heeven says hello, he taps his watch.
That you didn't but no, Iwas just doing that because we're both
wearing roll ex I know, dude. Yeah, but yours is probably nicer
than mine. No, the blacksobs, that's the that's the staple,
dude, Right, yeah, hangingwith hardy. Dude, how's life good?
It doesn't slow down for you ever? No, a little bit?

(00:24):
Maybe not really though, dude. There's a million things I want to catch
up on, But first hit mewith you just played with the Houston Rodeo.
Yeah, literally like a few daysago, and you brought your wife
with to look like she had thetime of her life. Right, yeah,
But tell me about that experience foryou, because the Houston Rodeo is
a big deal and a regular countrymusic fan sitting here in Nashville might not

(00:45):
realize that. How how how authenticcan this conversation be? Be right?
Right, there's a lot of Igot a lot of well, actually,
the every article I read was reallygood. But they they the day of
the show, they told me thatI couldn't cuss or we had to cut
a song from the set. Icouldn't wear a jersey with the number sixty

(01:06):
nine on it. Of course,if my mom's listening, she's like,
thank god, that's what they stillsaid. But it's about time. But
so we I kind of felt likeI handled it with grace, but I
had some I had a moment wheremaybe that I convinced the entire crowd to
say that F word just to seewhat would happened. But it was amazing.
The experience was amazing. I'm incrediblygrateful to even be considered like at

(01:30):
the same level or whatever you wantto call it as the other people that
played there. And the experience wasawesome. In the stage, like move
moves in a circle. Yeah, and you go out on these like octopus
legs and they'll go up and it'sdude, it was wild. It was
the coolest show I've ever played. What's it like for somebody who you're very
much out there but because of yourrock and country, you know, delivery,

(01:53):
you're still introducing yourself to new fansevery day. Yeah, but the
fans that you have are rabbit andthere's a ton of them, and that's
obviously why you played a show likethat. So what's it like when someone's
like, hey, you gotta parkand not that like you're built on cussing
on stage, but like being authenticis a part of you, right yeah,
yeah yeah, And so what wasthat like for them to be like,
hey, not today? A littlefrustrating. Maybe maybe you should look

(02:16):
up some shows and stuff trackers dyingright now. I just man, you
you know, you get what youget and you don't throw a fit,
and your show is your show.I mean, kid Rock came there,
so I wonder what they told him, but he probably won't be back.
I don't know. It's fine though, man, And I'm never dude.

(02:36):
I I would never be like blatantlydisrespect somebody or I don't know. I
just I feel like handling those situationswith some type of grace or at least
finding a way to cut corners iscompletely fine because just you know, I
feel like that's just a part ofmy show and that just it is what
it is when it comes to bigmoments like that. Obviously, no strangers

(03:00):
to an award show, and itfeels even recently, it's like it's the
Hardy and Laney show. Anytime yougo somewhere because either both of you or
at least one of you is goingto clean up as you're you've been a
part of it. I went throughthe list of accolades and I was like,
how do you pick which one meansthe most? Because it's all I
have an answer for that ACM Songwriterof the Year. That's that'll never nothing

(03:23):
will ever beat that. I don'teven think Entertainer of the Year will ever
beat that for me what I movedhere to be a songwriter and that there's
like three or four goals that I'vehad and I like just as a Nashville
songwriter, and that that one waslike the top of the pyramid. So
uh yeah, that and I justmy everything. None of none of this

(03:46):
would ever exist anything if there weren'tsongwriters and people writing songs that you play
on the radio, that you getto perform live. And I just songs
and songwriting is so special to me. And just to know that, you
know, to have to win thatfor a year to the person and just
feel all that hard work, youknow, eight or nine, ten years
of writing songs, and eight yearsof writing songs it never got you know,

(04:08):
played or listened to or anything likethat. Just it means a lot
to me. I care a lotabout songwriting. You talked about goals that
you set and and and i'd imagineworking with certain artists. We last time
we caught up Kenny having it.What I think you said, Yeah,
having a Kenny cut no spoken intoexistence. Well, so not only did
you, it's been a big oldhit and it's on its way to ringing

(04:30):
the bell? Who else is onthat list? Is that something you mind
sharing? Like? Who else ison that list that you're like before I'm
done, I gotta I gotta tryand work with I Okay, Tim McGraw,
I don't have a Tim mcgrawl cutat all. I surprisingly don't have
a Luke Bryan cut and Luke colmbsI feel like those are the last three.

(04:55):
I guess Laney too, I don'thave a Laney cut. There's a
lot, but when you ask thatquestion, Tim McGraw is the first one
that comes to mind. That's gottahappen, man, Dude. I ran
into him at the rhyme and hewas like, we gotta work together.
And now I never got his numbers, so I've just been waiting to run
into him again. We're gonna takehim on social media. There's gonna be
some DM Yeah, tell him totext me, dude, check the d
ms. At some point here hangingout with Hardy, you're getting close to

(05:16):
ringing the bell on a big songof your own. Did truck Bed feel
like like it could go? Ordid you just feel like it was the
right song for you? Right?I never know, dude, I really
don't want you know me. Imean like, I've always kind of taken
a risk when it comes to singleselection, and I feel like to a
certain extent, but I just Idon't know. You just never know.

(05:36):
You always hope. So I dothink that it's the hideous sounding song maybe
I've put out, you know, like the funnest like one Beer sounded hitdty,
but it was about a teenage prepregnancy. So you just don't really
You never really know. You knowsome people that are like, what yeah,
yeah, yeah, I thought itwas just about drinking beer. God,
you're right, dude. I don'teven know how many people think that,

(06:00):
but you never know. But Ihad high expectations for it. It
reacted so well when the record cameout, and like you know, a
lot of people you guys showed alot of love like when we when it,
when we send it out. Sobut here we are. I'm excited,
dude, I'm excited for you.Uh tell me. I'm trying to
do like a cliff Notes version incase they walk in the door any second.
Uh take me through quit because thisis a story you've told before.

(06:25):
But what made you want to putit into music form? Man? I
don't know. I I think partof just when I opened that book metaphorically,
when I told that speech that night, I guess was at ACM honors.
Uh, and it kind of wentviral, and and I just thought,
maybe you should elaborate on that alittle bit more. And I just,

(06:48):
dude, I was on my boat, I think, and I was
like just singing stuff in my headand was like, what if you just
and just the whole thing just sortof can't come to life in my head,
and and I just was like, man, let's let's just tell it
like and like tell it like astory kind of thing. And and it
just turned into like a rap song. So I guess you call that.
I don't know you call it,but listen, songs don't have lanes in

(07:10):
my world. But anyway, Ilove that. That's a great quote.
Uh take me through. Another thingI want to ask you is, obviously
you and Morgan are tight. Whyis that friendship? And now obviously Ernest
is a part of that. Itfeels like jelly Roll has kind of become
a part of that. Why asyou guys have grown career wise together,
has it been important to continue towork together because a lot of people don't
go back to the well right Ohman, I dude, I I'm just

(07:34):
dance with the one that brought youkind of thing, man, And we're
all just like celebrating each other allthe time. Dude. The last think,
the last thing I texted Morgan wasDude, I just got off stage.
I just played the Houston Rodeo anduh, we you know, and
it's always something like that, AndI just why would you not? Man?

(07:56):
Those are the people that you becamesuccessful with, and those are the
people that you you know, youwrite your best songs with. And I
just I it's just been a nobrainer for us to just always and we
just we all knew each other whenwe had nothing. Dude, Me and
Ernest and Morgan wrote more than myhometown maybe up Down had go number one,
but we still like we're babies backthen and that and that, like

(08:18):
we just I don't know, westick together when you come up, when
you come from nothing and you allcome up together, there's a bond that
you have. And I'm the sameway with Laney. Like you just there's
some people that you just you wentthrough it with them and you you know,
you were all at one point likeis this gonna work for any of
us? Or are we going tobe the people that move back home or
whatever it is, and you justthere's some sort of bond that you have

(08:39):
when you go through stuff like thattogether. Last thing I want to ask
you is, uh, the barthing has become a big deal. And
we talked about this with Kenny Chesneyrecently. He goes, it's funny because
at one point it was like everyonehad their own merch shop downtown. It
was like this person had a Fancis, and now it's like everyone's got a
bar Yeah, is that something inyour wheelhouse at any point? Yes?

(09:00):
How far? How far down? Two to three years? Yeah? Yeah,
all right, that's all gonna asks. It's gonna happen. It's just
we don't have there's I haven't signeda piece of paper or anything, but
that's very very very much on myto do list for the next few years.
God, that's gonna be sick.Yeah, we got a place in
mind, dude, let's do it. We can't wait, Hearty, Thanks

(09:20):
for hanging brother. Always a pleasure.
