free shipping, free road hass protection over ten thousand recommended
to dollars tyrat dot com. That's the way tire buying
should be welcome in. So not a lot to get
you today, right, Well, you had the the Dallas Mavericks

(00:43):
shooting free toes like, well me all right. You have
the Boston Celtics finding way to win despite the fact
Donovan Mitchell doesn't play for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lebron James
and attendance that was interesting. What's Lebron doing there?

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Hmm?

Speaker 1 (01:02):
And we have Caitlin Clark playing tonight in a real
w NBA game. Will you watch? That's kind of all
we got got others. Hold on, hold on, I'm being
told Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, we have some breaking.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
News, breaking news from Fox Sports.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Doug sources tell me that the University of Wisconsin Green
Bay is hiring Doug Gottlieb to be the school's new
men's basketball coach.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Well, hold on your clapping. We didn't confirm or deny.
I can confirm that report. So as of this very moment, actually,
as of this morning, I'm the new head coach at
Wisconsin Green Bay.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
That deserves ron for applause. Thanks man.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Oh there's a side note. The Doug Gottlieb Show will
continue on as we've come to an agreement that this
is what we're gonna do. I love doing the show.
There go, I love working with you guys. In a
rare turnabout, I'm returning to the state of my birth.
But Dan Byers not. On the other hand, it's the
perfect excuse to get Dan. We're gonna make Dan Buyer

(02:24):
a Packer fan. If it's the last thing we do.
We may even turn him into a Badger fan. Right,
but the Seahawks fan I do.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Maybe get me drunk, you know who I mean?

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Listen, that's a good place to get drunk for a game.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Right.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
So yeah, this is a real thing and there's a
lot to it, but the basics of it are you know,
I was, I was kind of raised in a gym.
My dad when I was born, was a head coach
at UW Milwaukee. It's in the same league, obviously, in
the same state system. It's now the Art Trival of
Green Bay. And this has been a light flong pursuit.

(03:01):
And the ability to do it and still continue this
radio show and our subsequent podcast is all anybody could
ever ask for is an opportunity. You know. I've done
speeches all over the country, all over the world about
the number one thing you should you should wish for,
right and you should dream about. And people say like, well,

(03:25):
what do you wish for? You know, people wish for health,
they wish to be live a blessed life, you know,
for their kids to do well. But to me, what
I wish for for my children, for my friends, and
for myself is just give me an opportunity, Just give

(03:45):
me a chance. And I get it. It's a different path.
I have not coached in college basketball, though I was.
I was blessed to be a consultant this year for
Mike Boyden at Oklahoma State. I've done that for other schools.
I've covered the game for twenty one years. I played
the game. It's been about my my family's businesses basketball,

(04:08):
and now I get a chance to to do what
my dad did. And my brother's been in this game
for almost thirty years an assistant coach, mostly at the
men's level, and he hasn't gotten this opportunity. So I
feel honored, i feel blessed. I'm stoked, and I'm just
I'm all the words, right, there's all the words of emotions,

(04:30):
you know, and you know I like, is there apprehension?

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (04:33):
But the big thing is this, Dan, you tell me
if this makes sense.

Speaker 5 (04:39):
I can.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I can tell you of my plans. I can tell
you how good it's going to be. I know it's
gonna be fun. I know it's gonna be challenging. I
know it's it's going to be very very different lifestyle
for me, and I think it's gonna be different for
the players because my style is different than I'm sure
anybody else that play for I also have great confidence
that we will be successful. It all depends on what

(05:01):
lens you look at success through. But I believe will
be successful. We will, we will achieve greater than whatever
the individual parts are, and people be proud and have
fun going in watching our game. But all of these
are just words. So when November comes, you can judge me,
and when December comes, you can judge me. And I

(05:23):
don't think I can guarantee that you'll sit there and
go like, hey, he lived up to what his expectations were,
which is we're going to get more out of whatever
we got than whenever they would do individually. They will
be a cohesive group and they will have fun and
you're going to like coming to watch this play, right,
because this is not drudgery. Basketball is design is in

(05:46):
aerobic activity, and college basketball is designed to represent your
university and be the front door of the university. And
oh yeah, by the way, it's supposed to be fun.
Practice every day isn't always fun, you know, trying to
line dudes out and get them better and always fun.
But intel like I won't have a good time. Plus like,
I think I'm gonna get really good seats to packer games.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Your goal of finally going to Lambo should be accomplished
down the list of things to do, but I think
with doubt.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Okay, you know what number one on the list is,
after the press conference and then getting the players and
all that other stuff. Has any Packer player ever ridden
an e bike.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
From the training camp? Uh? Yeah, I'm not sure if
it happened last year.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Okay, so listen, I'm gonna I'm gonna shout out I
have I have one good friend, Drew. I'm counting on
you to send me the coolest e bike ever. I
have my own, but I want a Packer player. I
want Jordan Love to ride my e bike. Right, that's
my that's my goal. It's like that's a that's like Americana.
That should be goal number seven thirty two on the list. Yeah,

(06:54):
thank you.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
I think that we've got to get to other things.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
You got to get these fighting Phoenix back to the
NCAA tournaments.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
We gotta get well. First, we want all the dudes
that are there, we want them all to stay, okay. Hey. Secondly,
we're gonna go get some good ones. Third, we want
we want to raise some money, okay, because none of
this is done for free, and none this is done
for free and then we got to start that process.

(07:20):
But in terms of things I want to do in
Green Bay, like I want to go to Summerfest. Uh.
Brian Anderson, who calls Brewers games, He's like, I can
maybe get you on a little Brewers broadcast, like.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Brew Crew, let's go do it.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Cessa Fielders still play for them, Prince Sessa Cooper CCL
Cooper confining Brewers, Yeah, poly molitor, robbing, robbing out, retired, kidding.
I took a visit to Marquette and we played quarters
with Mike Dean and his staff at a Brewers game
at County Stadium. Of course, haven't been to haven't been
to Miller Park, but excited to.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Do that American Family Field. All these things are changed.
I got I got done the Marcus amphitheater yesterday.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
And uh uh, I want to have Jordan Love ride
my bike. That's a big one. I have a Huffy,
I have a beach Cruiser, and I have an e bike.
I think I'm gonna bring the e bike. Jay Stu,
you told me like your phone's blowing up.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
Over this deal. Yeah. Everyone assumes that I have all
the dirt and I've been I'm getting hit up pretty
consistently since about what nine am this morning. How does
this impact your job? Is their main concern.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Oh, I'm sorry fired not tell you.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
I'm kidding, no, but I I'm real excited about this.
I'm so excited for you, and I'm interested to see
how moving forward things play out, because you know, I
don't know if anyone in the history of the planet
has ever hosted a national radio show and been the
full time head coach at a Division I basketball program.

(09:02):
So I'm going to get a first rows seat to
see how you accomplish these gymnastics.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Okay, Well, as you know, like, I work for way
too many people this year, so now I only work
for two people. I work for the University of Wisconsin
system and uh. During the hours of this show in
the podcast are the hours in which there's no there's
no AU program that I get to get to be
a part of. I've I got to divest in that,
and I have some really good people that a run it.
And unfortunately I won't be able to call, you know,

(09:32):
college basketball games for Compass and Fox Sports one and
UH and uh Westwood one in the nca ternam. I
don't know if I can do Westwood won the innterm.
I'm gona trying to do that because that was super cool.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Well, you'll be playing in the NCAA turm.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Well that's yeah, after we win. After listen, Sweet sixteen
is a little tough first year, so I'm thinking for
second round. But like, look when we get if we
had beaten the Sweet sixteen, then I could I could
do radio. That'd that'd be cool. I'm thinking. Here's what
I'm thinking, Dan, tell me if you like this, I
think in Celtics style uniforms, like, there's a lot you
can there's not a lot you can do with green
and white. Now we're we're in Adidas brand school, So

(10:09):
what do you think about like copying the classic Celtics look.
And I'm not talking about the alternative jerseys where they
can't stand with the Celtics.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
I would I would say I'm fine with that because
I love the Celtics look. Anything throwback wise again to
the glory days of the of the early nineties I
think would be appropriate and welcomed. It truly was the
glory days, like to get down to brass hacks.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Well it was yeah, okay, So can I tell you
the coolest parts about this whole thing. Okay, first thing
is I got a call today from Danny Hurley, Bobby Hurley.
Bobby Hurley remains my idol, like I literally, Bobby Hurley
used to stand with his hands on his back like this,
and he was my idol. Both of them called, gave
me some advice, gave me a pep talk, and sent
me a cool text. But I told Jeff Norgard this

(10:56):
exact story. Okay, you guys remember what was the what's
the uh oh man? You may remember legends sports bar
and girl.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
I think that's still around county.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Okay, So legends. There's legends in Newport Beach, and there
was legends in Santa Monica. So Jeff Norgard and Tony
Bennett was the backcourt. You're talking about the glory days, right, Yeah,
when they.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Beat Cal Well, Tony Bennett wasn't there, Okay.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Tony was gone, Okay, but Jeff Norgard was their star player. Yes, okay,
So when Jeff is there, I'm watching Cal lose to
Wisconsin Green Bay and my dad had known coach Bennett
forever forever, And what Jeff didn't know and I told
him today was you don't know this, but our paths

(11:51):
crossed twice. Once was my dad had coached against Jason Kidd,
and Jason Kidd and Kevin Ollie were on the same team,
Team ARC, and my my dad's like best team ever
got smashed by Jason Kidd, so I already didn't like
Jason Kidd. And then Jason Kidd beat Miles Simon in
the state championship at Arco Arena. He got a dunk,

(12:13):
took off his shirt, was done, like he dominated the game.
But that was that was like modern day's like best team.
They got demolished by Jason Kidd and Saint Joe's Alameda
and then of course, uh, they also got Lou Campanella fired,
Campinelli fired at at Cal. I wasn't a Jason Kidd
guy just because of those things. I think he's he
was an amazing point guard, an amazing player. But at

(12:35):
the time when they played Green Bay, I became like
the biggest Fighting Phoenix fan ever because of that moment.
It's pretty cool, right, And then today I talked to
him on the phone and I was like, hey, I
get the coach your program. It's really cool, really cool.

Speaker 6 (12:54):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Anyway, so not a lot going on, not like going
on a no prob, no prob, no problem. Most interesting
name of somebody who's texted you JASETU over this, So
you're like, why are you texting me?

Speaker 5 (13:10):
I don't think it gets any bigger than Rob Parker.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Rob Parker just texted me twice from Rob Parker. Oh oh,
Rob Parker. Yeah, it's pretty cool stuff.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Are you ready for all this? There's a lot and
there's a lot. There's a lot out there, you know.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, like look a lot meaning what negativity?
A lot meaning the job?

Speaker 3 (13:37):
Oh yeah, yeah. There's a lot of people that don't
think that you can that you can do this. They
look and they say like, hey, he hasn't coached at
this level. There are people obviously bring up credit cards
and those you've I know, you've addressed it before, but
it's it's out there, sure, Like how do you deal
with all that?

Speaker 1 (13:55):
You knows? As you know, And I think I've done
a pretty good job as you know.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Though.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
The negativity that I like, was it last week or
the week before? I tweeted out about Caitlin Clark's jump
shot and it's a flawed release as she releases it
at starting it from the left side of her face. Sure,
and I asked, Mike Procorpio, corpse ruled, renowned basketball and

(14:24):
development expert. Matter of fact, he was Kobe Bryants guy.
So that's all I did. Thirteen million impressions later. And
if you go and look at the responses in that,
I'm everything from a chauvinist to a racist, to an
idiot who couldn't shoot, shouldn't tell her anything about it,
to just a blow hard hot take specialist.

Speaker 5 (14:47):
Right.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
So, if you can survive in this business with the
world the cesspool of negativity, then yeah, I'm fine. Like
I'm built for that. It's okay. What I learned had
I had an agent who's now the CEO of WWE's
name's Nick con And I remembered when I left ESPN,

(15:12):
I had a five year deal on my contract, five
years of my contract, and I left because I wanted
to be close to my family in California and I
wanted to see my kids in the afternoon. I was
doing four to seven radio and now I was doing
for five six months the year I was doing college basketball,
and then I was filling in other shows, so gone
on weekends for five six months and every afternoon for

(15:34):
eleven and a half months, Like, that's not much of
a life. So I wanted to get so there was
truly family, personal reasons, and the professional opportunity of doing
the Final Four, which ESPN didn't have, so I could
not have left on better terms. But then, you know,
a couple of years later, they were sniping and you

(15:54):
had people saying negative things at that place and Nick
con is his name, and Nick I had drinks with
them and he's like, listen, you do know everybody hates
on everybody, right. I was like, well, I'm not really
that way, Like I like other people to get opportunities,
like if it's not me at somebody else. He's like, yeah,
but that's not how the world works, you know. And

(16:15):
if they're sniping at you, it makes them feel better
about who they are. They're just projecting, you know whatever.
And I have no doubt that there's assistant coaches out there,
head coaches out there who wanted that job, who their
first reaction is, why would you hire that idiot? He
doesn't know what he's doing. Any human being that has

(16:35):
ever played for me, I would offer them. Call them
any human being who has ever played for me or
coach with me the calumn and they will say, like, look,
I'm not perfect, easy to play for. My son probably
gets at the hardest. But they all loved it. They

(16:56):
all enjoyed it. So I'm good with who I am
and I got really really thick skin. But I also
I know enough to know what I don't know. There's
plenty I don't know. You know, I'm gonna do. I'm
going to hire people that know what I don't know.
You know, my worst flaw is I have terrible time
management skills.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
I just do.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
I say yes to everybody, and what ends up happening
is some people get cut short in their time or
I run over in meetings. That my first hire is
somebody who's going to handle all that for me. So
I actually think I'll be more efficient with my time
and even this show is going to be even better. Plus,
here's the thing that this show is going to offer you.
This show is very, very real, from moving to lifestyle

(17:38):
changes to actually knowing what's going on in sports and
not just in basketball. Obviously, I'll have a great connection.
Mark Murphy has been he's he helps, he loves Green
Bay basketball, and he's become a friend I'm not. This
is not going to be a promotional network for the Packers.
I do want to point out that I was on
the Jordan Love train before everybody else hopped off the train,

(17:59):
that they didn't jump off. That is accurate?

Speaker 2 (18:01):
Is that not?

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Guys?

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Yes? Okay, you all start in love with Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 1 (18:05):
I'm mom in love with their aeron Rogers. But I'm
excited man Rogers. So Jay su how's it gonna affect
your job?

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Eh?

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Eh, eh, you know, I don't know. I think your
job is going to be exactly the same, slightly different.
But we're gonna do training camp at the Packers. You
guys cool with come out to the Packers training camp?

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Yeah? Absolutely?

Speaker 1 (18:39):
Does Ramos need to make that as well? Can we
have Ramos make that?

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Always think he would love that? Oh my god?

Speaker 1 (18:44):
Well did he get on a plane when he went
to Vegas because he hadn't been on a plane in
tomorrow they drive, We're gonna have to do the ba
Broncas to get him.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Maybe he'll have a plane for this. We could get
him there though.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
That would be a baller move if I if I
pulled up with the G five and said, hey, Ramos,
how you know. I don't know, Doug. I got a
softball game. I don't know anyway to the now seven
and fifty seven of you who have texted me and
I haven't yet and got back to I appreciate it.
I told my kids this that if you're dreaming this,

(19:19):
this is the response to people who want to laugh
at it. If no one's laughing at your dreams might
not be dream big enough. So I am honored, I
am motivated, and I am ready, And I'm the new
head coach at Wisconsin Gary Bay and I ain't going

(19:39):
anywhere with this radio show.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Doug
Gottlieb Show weekdays at three pm Eastern noon Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Uh don't want to work.
I hope you're having a great day, Doug Gottlieb Show,
Fox Sports Radio. Uh, did you guys hear what Kirk

(20:13):
Cousins said about the Atlanta Falcons draft team, Michael Pennox
with the eighth pick in the first round. You didn't, Oh,
take a listen.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
Kirk Cousins, the Falcons.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
There's no beef involved.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
No, and I don't think there can be.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
I don't think it's helpful, Like we're trying to win
a super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
It's hard enough.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
Let's all be on the same page and let's try
to go in a super Bowl. So that's that's Kirk
taking the high road after I think most everybody knows
that he was not happy about the draft pick. And
I do think there's a reasonable part to not being
happy about the draft pick, because you're like, dude, first
round pick, he's one of us, is not gonna play.
You drafted a backup. But what are you gonna do?

(20:57):
You're coming off an achilles, You're in your thirties. They
got to prepare for the future. Let's welcome in John Milcoffee.
He joins us on the Doug out of They show.
John has a great PODU on the Volume podcast network.
It's called three and Out. What do you think of
of Kirk's sudden kind of change and response, Well, I.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
Think before we dive into cousins, congratulations is in order.
I have a couple of play ideas that I will
text you over that I want run in game one.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Okay, well, listen, there's good golf in Green Bay in
the summer and maybe fall and hey, look you can
come out and see a Packer game and uh and
help you can help implement that. You can you can
tell you can put the plays in. Okay, you can
have some. You can coach the team, but you got
to give to our collective in order to do so.

Speaker 6 (21:44):
Okay, are you going to become a season taket older
with agreement Packer? Now?

Speaker 5 (21:50):
No?

Speaker 1 (21:50):
Yeah, yeah, my chee?

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Is that ready? Anyway?

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Thank you? I want to Let's we'll talk about that
in a second, but first, let me just get to this, like,
let's let's do our job. What do you what do
you think of?

Speaker 5 (22:02):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (22:03):
I think?

Speaker 1 (22:03):
What do you think of how it all works in
in Atlanta?

Speaker 6 (22:07):
Well, I think the biggest question mark always like ultimately,
you know, the key to acquiring players in draft free
agency is character, right, is knowing the way the guy's wired.
And say this for Cousins, he's been through a lot
and I listen to a little bit of that podcast
this morning. He talked about going back to his time
with Michigan State when D'Antonio to Oldham. Basically, I got

(22:31):
five guys and if any of them commit you're not coming.
And then he finally didn't get any of those guys
signs Cousins, and then like two weeks later they signed
Foles and like, what the hell you told me? I
was your quarterback. So he's kind of been competing his
whole career. I think the one thing we know about
Cousins is at this point in time in his career,
married guy, multiple children, He's a pretty mature guy. Not

(22:55):
an ideal situation, but he had no control over us.
And the other thing is they drafted a high character,
mature guy too, so I think things that are out
of those twos control. And you and I have been
talking about it since the pick is like OTA's could
get weird just because Cousins is in the training room
and Penis is playing. But I think we all probably

(23:17):
agree that Cousins is probably going to handle this well.
He has one hundred plus million dollars two to handle
it correctly. He has a no trade clause, so he
doesn't have to worry about them just dumping them off
if you know, they start kind of leaning to Panix,
like he does have some juice. It's not quite an
NBA contract, but it's closer to that than your typical
NFL contract, So I wouldn't be too worried about him

(23:40):
in terms of the actions the treatment of other guys.
I think that will be fine to me. It's more
on the other young, impressionable player, which their team is kind.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
Of full of.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Yeah, I think there's that, and I also think there's
the if you look at that group in the front
office collectively, they have an ungreatfting, right, so it's like,
this feels like a weird plan and the lack of
communication with that plan to their quarterback, which they don't
have to but again, like if there's nothing to farious

(24:13):
at work, why not why not communicate with him?

Speaker 6 (24:16):
So I think the other thing is Doug is the
defense just isn't that good. It wasn't very good last year, right,
Obviously the quarterback play so Raheem Morris, who's a good
who's proven to be a good defensive coordinator with the Rams.
One thing we've seen when their defense are playing well,
like they got really good players, obviously led by Aaron Donalds.
But you know, last year part of their huge jump

(24:36):
back to relevancy was they've nailed a bunch of draft picks.
So if their defense is bad. Like look at Tampa Bay.
You know, Baker is just solid. Again, like that team
is full of pretty high level players. I mean, that's
not a team going away and the same if Kubiak
is an upgrade and offensive coordinator. I mean, for as

(24:56):
weird as their season was last so they were right there.
I mean they were nine and eight, so you would
assume that Derek will because the offense was their downfall aster.
Derek played that in a lot of games, so their
offense is better. Everyone's just penciling in Atlanta as the
division champs. Like I am definitely not comfortable doing that.
I know that.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
Okay, let me let me ask you about what the
Detroit Lions chose to do. I mean it was announced yesterday, right,
what do you think of the contract tension?

Speaker 6 (25:30):
Well, obviously, I think in a perfect world he liked
off a little less money, but it kind of is
the going rate. He's proven to be one of the
better quarterbacks in the NFC, honestly, going back to when
he had good years with the Rams, like, he has
a large body of work now, multiple teams they love
the guy. The team loves the guy. You know, think

(25:52):
about the Ford family, their number one seller for Ford
is the F one fifties. It's not a Ferrari, right,
It's not a horse.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
You know, you know, you know it used to be.
And this does to help your point, does to help
your point even more. The number one selling car for
our lifetime was the four Taurus.

Speaker 6 (26:10):
It's just a consistent car. You know it's gonna work.
And a little like that with God. And let's face it,
the way these contracts work, there will come a day
three or four years down the line where that contract
is somewhat impactful, but for the next several years it's
just not. And you know, you can win with Jared Goff.
So let's face the teams kind of live in the

(26:32):
front and think about this, Doug. You know, when they're
extending Jared Goff and the Eagles extended Jalen Hurts, think
about the two guys like one guy, you know exactly
what you're getting that there's still some uncertainty with Jalen,
like how does he handle different quarterback or coordinators. Is
he a consistent, you know, high level player. I would
pencil Jared gofton right now as an NFC pro bowler,

(26:53):
which is one of the three best player three best quarterback. Now,
part of it is the NFC does not have my
home burrow, Herbert Lamar, It's not it's you're purty and
da right, and maybe Jordan Love and we'll see what
Kayleb Williams. So I think that also factors in. Plus,
once you get a quarterback that you know, like Jared

(27:15):
Goffs won in the playoffs. It's not like Tua, but
you know that you can go to a playoff game
and win with the guy. The other thing is clearly
he benefits from playing in a controlled environment. Had a
lot of success with the Rams in a warm weather climate.
Now he plays indoors. Well, they play eight or nine
home games every single year, and plus Minnesota want to
give in here, he might have ten indoor games. I

(27:38):
think you feel comfortable with that.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
He's he's Matt Ryan, right.

Speaker 6 (27:44):
Well, and it's not like he came out. It's not
like wow, man, god.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
No, no, but but he's met he he's Matt Ryan.
You know, maybe not as good like he's Matt Ryan.
Matt Ryan was the same thing. Consistent. Guys liked him.
He's fine, he's good. I just the question becomes, well,
you know, longevity ends up spreading out kind of the
the cap hit, you know, did they overextend themselves because

(28:10):
he's not a top, he's not a dude. He's a
guy behind the dudes, right, that's a fair way to Okay,
So if you're the Packers, what do you do with
Jordan Love?

Speaker 6 (28:20):
Well, I'm Jordan Love right, because the Packers right now,
based on his eight games, probably would not throw this
in front of them. So let's say they threw more
of the cousins, like one hundred guaranteed, not one hundred
and seventy. If I'm Jordan Love and I'm feeling pretty confident,
I go to a couple o Ta's like, I'm going
to be pretty good again. I might play it out,

(28:41):
you know, and then maybe the Packers are more aggressive
by October to be like, here's one hundred and fifty
million dollars. Right, So, if I'm Jordan Love, like, if
you put yourself in issues and we represented them, if
we were pretty optimistic on the player, wouldn't you just
let it ride for a little bit?

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (28:59):
Look, that's the old bet on yourself. I understand it.
I don't know. I think it's just it's fascinating, like
what is the what is the if you're Jordan Love, like,
what's the amount to you go? Like if I wait,
maybe I can get fifty, but right now, maybe I
can get like thirty a year for a guy who's
making I think eight this year, like a lot of money.

Speaker 6 (29:22):
Do you think he would time like the Baker Mayfield
Cousins kind of deal, like in that forty to forty
five million dollars right now?

Speaker 2 (29:30):
I would? I would.

Speaker 6 (29:33):
I just wonder what you look at these because if
you go, what if I'm a top two or three
quarterback in the conference?

Speaker 1 (29:39):
Okay, but what if you're not?

Speaker 6 (29:41):
Yeah, there's a risk. Yeah it's very risky.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Yeah, it could argue.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
It's probably it's probably not as risky as we think,
right because there's a lot of quarterbacks. I mean like, look,
Baker failed in in Cleveland, got run out of Cleveland,
went and he had that incredible Monday night game. I
was there again, you know for the Rams. But you know, like, look,
once you've been a starting quarterback, if they people feel
like you have upside potential and you know you're a
guy can stand in front of a room and lead

(30:07):
a team of guys like you're gonna have value everybody
people need a quarterback. But I probably would That's that's
what I would do. I would get it done early.
And if you're him, you get done early and just go, hey,
let's let's redo this thing in like three four years.
Then it could be sixty seventy five or you know,
you got life changing money in the bank. Whereas it's

(30:28):
like if you have to wait, if you have to
wait to get fifty, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (30:31):
If I was the Packers right now, I'd be offering
I'm like, hey, here three for one hundred. We'll basically
guarantee the whole thing. It averages the low sunturty and
that that would definitely make him think, right because hey,
you get your leg chat or something like that happens.
It's just it's pretty safe. And also if he is
really good, it's one of the best discount contracts in
the league.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
All right, are you really coming to Green Bay? You
can really come visit me?

Speaker 6 (30:53):
Well, heck, I mean, how long I know you've been
in the coaching world and sniff around. It got real today.
I guess it's been real for you for a while.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
No, no, no, it was this is a job I
was a finalist for last year and didn't get and
a guy named Sundance Wicks got it. Sunday did a
great job. He was a coach of the Year. He
went from four wins eighteen wins and he just got
the Wyoming job. I think Saturday or Sunday. So it
happened really really fast.

Speaker 6 (31:22):
What's the key taking over a job like this? Obviously
you've been coach at a high level. He's coaching youth,
you know. I mean the thing about college basketball right.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Is you know what no one's ever done it without
what good players? Correct get good players like I? I
can I? Can I coach them?

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (31:39):
Can I make them cohesive?

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (31:42):
You know?

Speaker 1 (31:42):
Can I build? Can I build a community? Absolutely? Am
I will. I'm going to hire people that know what
I don't know, and we're gonna roll. But you know
what really makes you good coach? When I was, I'll
tell you one real quick story. The uh help me
out buyer. I'm blanking for a second. The long time
legendary coach at Houston of the FI Slama jama I
wanted a huge Durham with Georgia de side. He was left.

(32:03):
He Lefty Driselle was Maryland. What was the name of
the coach at Houston? Man, what is Sam key turn
as Mike?

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Please?

Speaker 1 (32:13):
That would that would help?

Speaker 2 (32:14):
Go ahead? Go ahead?

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Yeah, I'm sorry, go ahead, Dan.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
I was just thinking Lewis Lewis.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
So Guy Lewis might I was at I was at
a coach's clinic with my dad when I was a
little kid, and Guy Lewis had one of those overhead projectors,
and you know, and all these coaches that come up
and spoke, and he's like, man, He's like, man, I've
listened to all these coaches offense, defense, amazing. You got
amazing basketball minds here. And he draws up a key

(32:45):
with the top of the key whatever, he draws up
five ex'es and five o's. Now, this is time tested
at the University Houston. We have done this for years
and years and it's the key to any college basketball program.
If you have five xes that are better than their
five ohs, you're gonna be a hell of a coach. Right.

(33:06):
So there's obviously a lot more to it than that,
But what's the number one key? Keep the dudes. You
got go out and get some good dudes.

Speaker 6 (33:14):
Won your first recruiting call mm, when have we done? Yeah?
About a couple hours.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Yeah, I mean i'd be if I i'd be lying
to you if I didn't say I've been on the
phone all day.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
I can't imagine middle coffee.

Speaker 1 (33:27):

Speaker 1 (34:47):
Milwaukee, it's on. That's that's the art trival right now,
it's on. I was born a Packer pantherbacker. But but
no more.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
No more stripes have changed. You're now a fight in Phoenix.
All right, the game today is all right? Rank your
top three teams in the NBA Playoffs playoffs as of
right now.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
Uh, this is gonna surprise you. I'm gonna put the m.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
You're gonna put the Nuggets one, Celtics two.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
Yes, I'm trying to think and then I think, Wow,
it's hard, thunder MAVs. Yeah, that's I'm yeah. Now I'm
gonna put Timberwolves three, Timbers three.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
Hopefully they can show it in the showdown tonight Game
five in Denver, Doug rank the three things that you
want from your University of Wisconsin Green Bay players players.
What do you what do you want from them? What
do you need from them to succeed?

Speaker 1 (35:57):
There are three negotiables ready for it. You want to
get better every day. I need you to be tougher
than a two dollars steak. And I want you to
compete in everything you do. I have I can't. If

(36:19):
you can't do those things, then what are we doing? Right?
If it's about anything else other than that, what are
we doing all?

Speaker 2 (36:26):
Right?

Speaker 3 (36:27):
That's a message to the Wisconsin Green Bay players. What
about the UWGB alums rank the top things that you
need from the UWGB alumni.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
I need you to show up, like show up for events,
not just ours women's basketball blah blah, but it needs
to show up. Okay. I need you to never leave
the house without wearing something green saying uw Green Bay.
Show you your support, and then hey, you want to
give some money the collective?

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Huh, it's good. Now, it's a huge part of it.

Speaker 1 (37:00):
It's a gigantic part of it. And look, it's all
to scale based upon your league. And they've done a
really good job and they have great boosters. But there's like,
that's just what makes this world go round? Is I
want to I really want to support the play I
want to do some really cool things to support the players.
And I have some great ideas, but all of it
takes a little bit of money.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
We've talked about this before, maybe we will later on
on this show, but with nil, with transfers, there's arrows
pointing your way as opposed to if they were ten
years ago. Sure, abs actually all right. Finally, Doug, I
ranked the top three things that you can do in
Green Bay. Now, I'm not a Green Bay resident, that
is not a resident of Brown County, wasn't born and

(37:40):
raised there.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Just about two hours or so west. Number three, Bay Beach.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
I went to Bay Beach as part of our Park
and Rex program about forty years ago. Bay Beach the
place to be Number two. It's not Green Bay, but
it's Door County, so where everybody goes in the summer.
It's beautiful. It's just gorgeous, amazing things. Yes, the ups
close to I know that's that's amazing. Yeah, it's just
the other kind of the other way around Green Bay
up through Marinett. And then finally, uh yeah, Lambeufield and

(38:09):
the Packers Hall of Fame. I left out the casino
and that's game time.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
