You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Hello, welcome in our two live in LA. It's The Herd.
Wherever you may be in however you may be listening.
Thanks for making us part of your day. New haircut today,
fresh lit. Okay, So we were talking about this last hour.
If you just joined us, Mack ride five minutes. So
we were talking about this for five minutes. Is you
(00:46):
gotta adjust? You gotta adjust? Adapter die And we were
talking about Dak Prescott and Jared Goff got a new
contract extension and people go, well, what about Dak. Well,
Dak's now had multiple injuries. Dak. As the NFL is
introducing new quarterbacks into the league, they all appear better
than Dack. Cee J. Stroud's better than Dak, and it's
(01:08):
not a big argument. He throws a better ball, He's
a better quarterback. And so it was really funny. I
just during the break, just you know, for giggles here,
I wrote down the twelve best quarterbacks and this is
off top of my head. It could be missing one,
but I went Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson,
Stafford five, and then Justin Herbert six with hardball, hill flourish,
and then I put Goff seven, c J. Stroud eight.
(01:31):
I'm gonna give GoF more credit because he's done it longer,
but I think c J. Stroud may be better, but
let me see another year of it. And nine I
went Kyler Murray, who I love, ten, Trevor Lawrence, eleven,
Jalen Hurts, twelve Jordan Love and thirteen. I think Caleb
Williams week one will be better than Dak and Kirk Cousins.
So as you keep introducing all, I mean, if you
watched the Jade and Daniels camp stuff for Washington, whooe
(01:55):
that dude, he's it? Have you seen that? Have you seen?
It's all over the internet. Jayden Daniels baller.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Jayden Daniels in camp is doing good. Huh interesting?
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Did you forget who was runner up to MVP last year?
Dak Prescott. Do you remember who got fourth rock perty?
I'm looking down the list for Jared Goff.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Oh he wasn't top ten.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Interesting, I think, did not Goff lead the NFL last year?
Didn't he lead the NFL in like was it passing
yards or passing touchdown?
Speaker 3 (02:22):
He didn't get any MVP bolts?
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Well that's rue what Yeah? The how the post because
Goff's postseason he was pretty good. I didn't see Dak's
Oh you.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Got Thatak did not have a great postseason game.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
But in one game versus seventeen these young quarterbacks, I
saw Jordan Love and Dak play. It wasn't close, not close,
Like it's very obvious.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
C J.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Stroud, the kid's good. I mean, I have to acknowledge.
I you know his what's funny is his comp was
Jared Goff. As if that's a bad comp that was
his And I said, yeah, he didn't have a ton
of juice. But you know, Goff's committed with Super Bowl
and now Stroud looks like golf, and we're all like
Stroud's amazing, Well up is golf? So yeah, you can't
(03:03):
not like golf and love Stroud. They play very I
mean I think CJ. Moves better, but he's not like
a runner. You had a great season, no doubt. That's
my thing. I'd like to see Jordan Love eight more games.
C J. Stroud let me go to Thanksgiving. But it
looks like Jordan Love and c J. Stroud are top
ten guys.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
I didn't hear brock perty on your list one and
a half seasons of data, No, which is more than Jordan.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
I bumped him up to seventeen, right below Russell Wilson anyway,
So what you know what I want to go before
I get to my erin rush. So Nick did not
get a hear my Aaron Rodgers conspiracy theory. In honor
of Aaron's conspiracy theories, I started the show an hour
(03:45):
ago saying saying the NFL does nothing by coincidence. Everything
strategic Christmas Day, take the oxygen out of the NBA
free agent period. They extend it, hurt March madness. This
is what the college football they're gonna do games during
the playoff. Nothing is by nothing is random, nothing is coincidence.
(04:11):
They go to the Jets and Aaron Rodgers, who's become controversial.
The NFL doesn't like controversy. They had it with Kaepernick.
Ratings briefly went down. Aaron increasingly is controversial. The single
toughest game on their schedule San Francisco opener, facing an
offensive coach to open the season, Andy Reid McVeigh and
(04:32):
Shanahan nightmare, three new offensive linemen veterans, who doesn't what's
the one group in the league that is hardest to
build chemistry? Offensive line? Aaron off an achilles surgery against
that pass rush. I think the NFL said, you know what,
we got other stars. Caleb Williams will give him an
(04:54):
easy opener. Aaron go to San Francisco, am, I nuts.
Speaker 6 (05:01):
Yes, you are, so let me tell you I disagree,
So I agree that they don't do anything. You know, accidentally,
everything has forethought. It would appear from what we have
seen from the schedule early the Chiefs getting the Ravens
and the Bengals immediately Aaron Rodgers' toughest game in one
(05:21):
of the most marquee games, Aaron going back to Northern
California being immediately that the NFL, I think maybe smartly
is saying some of these games are only marquee games
because of the quarterbacks playing, So we want to front
load those games because if Joe Burrow gets hurt at
(05:46):
some point, then Chiefs Bengals loses all of its appeal.
Last year, they saved it to Week sixteen Burrow's out.
How many games did the Jets have on national TV
that people then didn't care about because Aaron was out?
I think maybe what you're going to see on this
year's schedule is teams that are really quarterback centric. You're
(06:06):
going to see a lot of their bigger games early,
with the belief being later in the season.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
The people will tune in.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
Because of playoff implications, because of storylines early in the season.
Let's make sure that these marquee quarterback matchups have the
best chance of having healthy quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
That's how I'm reading it.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
Maybe you know your threat, but I think the NFL
would love Aaron to be relevant and good since the
New York Giants are.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
In a gap year.
Speaker 6 (06:36):
Can I, by the way, speaking of New York football,
can I give you not a conspiracy theory, but a
long term prediction Okay that I haven't shared.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
I don't think anywhere.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
Okay, but you brought up the Jets between anything of
the Giants. I so I think it's really on the board.
Daniel Jeremiah alluded to this that Drew Locke ends up
starting more games this year than Daniel Jones, that the
Giant are clearly in a transition period this season. I
think it is on the board that Dak Prescott and
(07:09):
Bill Belichick are a package deal next season to the
New York Giants. That Bill gets to come back to
the Giants, they get to steal away the Cowboys quarterback
answer that problem and Bill instead of because everywhere that
Bill could go, it's like, well, it's the jobs.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
Open, probably because they don't have a quarterback. You already
went through that.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
I think Bill and Dak could go and you could
remake an entire organization head coach and quarterback a year
from now with Dak Prescott the free agent and Bill
Belichick the head coach. And I think the New York
Giants are a very viable possibility there. So just put
that out there. Not really a conspiracy theory, just a
long term prediction.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
So the Giants once again will pay a quarterback significantly
more than what he's worth, and they think that's the answer,
that's it's true.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
That well, that is true. I'll tell you what's not
the answer to success.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Drew Locke.
Speaker 6 (08:00):
I tell you remember John Schneider when they signed When
they signed him, They're like, oh, you know, he wanted
to go somewhere he could compete for a starting job.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Daniel Jones not the answer. Drew Locks, not the answer.
Speaker 6 (08:12):
Dak would be the best quarterback they've had there since
Eli had when Eli was good a decade ago.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
I'm gonna throw this out, so generally, sure, Nick, there's
about ten superstars in the NBA star superstar guys, maybe more,
But I'm talking about the real stars, and I generally
like all of them except one. I pushed back on
Blake Griffin. I said, I don't get it. Take the
dunks out, what do I have? I push back on
Mellow a low efficiency jump shooter. I'm not sure he's
in great shape, doesn't play well with others. I pushed
(08:40):
back on Derrick Rose, hyper athletic, can't shoot, scoring at
the rim, unsustainable. I pushed back a little bit on Westbrook.
Although he was fun to watch, and I often said
I'd pay to watch Westbrook play, but I didn't think
he was a title guy. And so those are the
ones that I the top of my head. That I
pushed back to, I'm getting close that with Luca. Who
(09:02):
oh no, no, hold on who? Unlike Jokic or Steph
when they don't have the ball, Jokich and Steph are
incredibly valuable to teammates. Luca disappears on the TV screen.
He's disengaged. It's very much, Hey, if you get me
a shot or I get a shot, I won't even
work hard for the corner. Three ninety two of his
(09:25):
ninety six threes, he won't go to the corner. You
don't want to put the work, kid. He literally is
hard to find on the TV screen if he doesn't
have the ball. And I don't know how you take
that indifference, that selfishness and tweak it. I can tweak
your shot, your low post game. I can't tweak indifference.
He's a selfish player who doesn't work without the ball
(09:46):
if he doesn't have it. Good luck, guys. I didn't
say it was there yet, but I'm getting closer to
him being in that club.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
All right, I think, all right, well, I think that's crazy.
Speaker 6 (09:58):
I also think talking about how how Luca operates in
a basketball game when he doesn't have the ball, it
is like talking about how Cowhard operates on this show
when he doesn't have the microphone, Like who cares, He's
always gonna have it, Like, yeah, he's not working on
the corner three because the ball's always in his hands.
So a few Luka doncic facks. Just for the record,
(10:19):
Luca has never had home court advantage in a playoff series.
Has been the underdog in every playoff series he's ever played.
In his first two playoff series of his career, he
went up against Kawhi and or Paul George on every
single possession. Essentially they were healthy in both those series.
Despite that, he averaged thirty three points per game, and
now this year, he was a couple made free throws
(10:42):
away from being up three to one en route to
his second conference finals in the last three years. I
still think the MAVs are gonna win this series. Luca
I think is having by far not I think I
know his roughest postseason to date.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
There is no denying that.
Speaker 6 (10:59):
And I think yesterday was a crushing loss because they
could have They were leading that game wired to wired,
despite Luca having eighteen and Kyrie not breaking double figures,
and they could have taken a commanding lead in that series.
Luca is not a perfect player, and I don't mind
the yelling at the refs. I don't love the whining
(11:20):
at the refs. And when he's playing well, he's yelling.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
When he's not, it's.
Speaker 6 (11:24):
More whining, and I think it kind of pulls him
down a bit. But there is no world that exists
where he's not one of the five best players.
Speaker 5 (11:32):
In the league.
Speaker 6 (11:33):
He has committed himself more on the defensive end than
he had in the past, and I think right.
Speaker 5 (11:39):
Now he's in a bit of a slump.
Speaker 6 (11:41):
He is a great, great player who, by the way,
very well might end up in the NBA Finals this year.
And so so I think you're I think you're selling
him short a.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Bit, all right. So this is one of knicks things
that he does. It's probably my favorite thing he does.
It's called club superstard It yesterday. So Nick kids should
be noted that all of us sort of lean into
who we are. And Nick went to clubs, probably still does,
beautiful wife. He goes to clubs. He'll smoke cigarettes and
do club things, and I don't. I go to workout clubs,
(12:13):
do sit ups. You're more of a club guy. I mean,
I'm going to recall I called this occasionally. What are
you doing? I'm driving home from playing pokeron now all night,
so that you were different people.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
Yeah, that's right. Listen, we don't have to endo our
personal lives. I'm sorry Colin that I you know, when I'm.
Speaker 6 (12:32):
Off the clock, I might enjoy myself a bit.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
I met my wife when she was promoting a club.
It is a it is a.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
Bond between us. So yeah, we still go on occasionally. Also,
as you know, even at your silly workout clubs you
claim to go just probably not in a workout club,
probably like a squash club. It's you and some CFO
with some hedge fund. Yeah, I mean playing paddle or something.
But doesn't matter. They are one in, one out. You
cannot have. You need a line out the door so
(13:00):
people know it's popular and you can't be over capacity.
So NBA Club Superstar has a twelve person capacity, and
so we had to throw out Damian Lillard, Devin Booker,
and Jimmy Butler to make room for the three newest Superstars, SGA,
Anthony Edwards and the most controversial inclusion, Jalen Brunson waiting
(13:26):
in line to get in are Kyrie, Donovan, Maxi, Jamal Murray.
Speaker 5 (13:30):
And Wimby.
Speaker 6 (13:31):
And then the nine guys who were in last year
who stayed in are Tatum, Luca Durant and be Joker, Jannis.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
Lebron Ad and Steph.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Now.
Speaker 6 (13:41):
I know you probably are ready to kick Anthony Davis
out and put in I don't know who, but I'm
certain that's your first guy out.
Speaker 5 (13:48):
No, that's Club Superstar.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
No. I agree with your picks, I really do. I
think I have no problem with Brunson. I you know
your your legacy has to be to a large degree.
You taught me this year's ago. You said, when you
bang on a guy about his defense, you're like, you know,
outside of Russell that era, seventy percent of the NBA
is offense, not defense. And the truth is when it
(14:13):
comes to legacy, seventy percent of its playoffs not regular season.
There's a different intensity. Brunson's a better playoff guy than
a regular season guy. I have no problem with Brunson
being in. So this is the Club Superstar.
Speaker 5 (14:29):
We opened it yesterday.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
And then the question I would have for you, Colin
before we move on. Let I think it's a pretty
good bet that Wimby gets in next year, yes, all right.
If not Wimby's someone else. So who do you think
of those twelve in ant Man, Giannis lebron Ad, Steph Joker,
embiid Sga KD, Luca Tatum, Bruntson, Who do you think
(14:55):
is the most nervous, because again it's one in, one out.
If Wimby comes in, someone's got to go out. Who
do you think is on the bubble right now? On
Club Superstar?
Speaker 1 (15:05):
You know I don't hold MBID in the same regard
the rest of the world does. Oh wow, I don't wow.
Oh I hate again? Playoffs regular season. I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
All right, you're consistent with it. That's fair.
Speaker 6 (15:18):
Also, by the way, I don't know if you can
see Steph Curry is in the can Kon room, which means.
Speaker 5 (15:23):
You didn't make the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (15:25):
The club does not allow you to stay in that
room for consecutive years, which means if he's if they
missed the playoffs next.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
Year, steps out. It's just the rules of the club.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
It gamb be Superstar missed playoffs twoyears in a row,
just the rules.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Do you guys have a door? What do they call that?
When you go to a club and you play it bouncers,
not the bouncers.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
What do you oh h oh door charge?
Speaker 1 (15:45):
What it costs? Yeah, no, yeah it's.
Speaker 6 (15:48):
Two it's two hundred dollars a person. But you're on
the list, you would get in for free.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Okay. Finally, So in my theory that they're making it
a little tougher on Aaron Rodgers brand and friendly. Kansas
City opens with a couple of home games. Andy Reid's
great in September, even greater at home in September. And
I do believe the league likes the Chiefs. Thinks they're Midwest,
(16:15):
likable coach who loves his short ribsen Burgers, Mahomes, stays
out of it, fun loving. What did you make of
the back to back home games the Chiefs got.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
Well, Listen, I think I think this is the ideal
start to the season for the Chiefs. And I think
if I were Baltimore or Cincinnati, I'm really not happy
about it. Now, Listen, who they're playing and where they're playing.
That is set in stone and it's not set by
the league. So they were going to get a home
game against Baltimore, and they were going to get a
(16:47):
home game against Cincinnati, but putting them where they put
them in the schedule, I think is massively advantageous.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
To the Chiefs. So let's deal with them each individually.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
If you're Baltimore, you know we don't talk about AFC
Championship Game hangovers. We talk about Super Bowl hangovers. But
think about it, Colin. Last year was the best season
you have had for your franchise in more than a decade.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
You win the league, MVP, you.
Speaker 6 (17:15):
Are, you have a dominant playoff game in round two,
you are hosting the Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (17:20):
It's your time. And now the next.
Speaker 6 (17:24):
Game you play is in their building. Watching them hang
the banner you thought you were gonna.
Speaker 5 (17:29):
Get to hang. That is devastating.
Speaker 6 (17:31):
And if the Chiefs beat them, then I think that
can set their season off.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
You know, a skew to start with.
Speaker 6 (17:38):
And then if you're Cincinnati, you're saying, wait a minute,
Joe Burrow, we start slow every year for some reason,
since Joe Burrow has been here, every single year we've
lost our Week two game every single year we've been
at We're below five hundred and through two weeks, and
now our most important game. Not only are you putting
(17:59):
it in Week two but the.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
Chiefs get extra rest.
Speaker 6 (18:03):
The Chiefs are gonna be on a mini buy for
our biggest game of the year at home. We're gonna
be coming off regular rest. So I think if I
were Baltimore Cincinnati, I'd be furious if.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
You're at Kansas City. I mean, listen, let's be honest.
Speaker 6 (18:17):
I mean, the Chiefs probably should have been in five
straight Super Bowls if not for you know, an odd
quarter of football by Patrick.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
Mahomes against these Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 6 (18:25):
They've been getting revenge on them ever since, and now
they're gonna become the first team ever to win three
Super Bowls in a row. What better way to start
the year than dispatching of the Ravens and the Bengals
to start to let everyone know this year is not
gonna be like last year, where there's real trepidation.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
It's gonna be smooth sailing from the beginning.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
It's a pleasure to see you, Mick. I really appreciated
that year too, buddy, the club, Superstar, the Cancun Room.
It's a nice touch. All right.
Speaker 6 (18:51):
Well you, by the way, I'm in LA on Friday
and I'm going to crash your show. I'm coming on
your show Friday, and after the show we can go.
I don't know, Boots one of your favorite La hot
spots that evening. I'm in town, buddy, where are you?
I'm going to take Howard out on the town. It'll
be a great time.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
There's an Applebee's right around the corner. Let's hit it, okay, Nick, right?
I think his aeron theory is interesting, which is he
may get which is, by the way, way more negative
than mine, which is Aaron may not last a month.
Let's get him on TV before you know, he goes
crumples down onto the turf. I tend to think the
(19:26):
Jets will start slow, but eventually Aaron will play have
a decent season. But but you know, it's interesting. You
know when I did that to start the hour, Jmac,
it's so funny. I didn't put Aaron in the top
twelve because I really don't know what it's going to
look like. I don't know where to put Aaron Rodgers
right now. I have no idea. I have no idea
what it's going to do.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
What did you have him last year?
Speaker 5 (19:48):
Well?
Speaker 1 (19:48):
I always see I feel like Aaron keeps going down
like a spot or two, and I think last year
it was like eight or nine, and it's like, Jordan
Love right now, in my opinion, is a better.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Quarterback off eight games.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
I just not everything has to be the four oh
one k people literally on American Idol would give somebody
eighteen seconds and go you're a hip. Not everything takes forever.
I mean, wait, c J. Stroud. By the second week,
we were all like, oh that works. Joe Burrow first week,
(20:19):
Herbert first week, Kyler Murray first week, I remember Matt
Ryan first or second week. I was like, yeah, that's
a franchise quarterback. When you have to wait to a
second third year. Justin fields, it's not a franchise quarterback.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Jordan Love is in year three.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
No, but I mean first year of starting, and it
was chopping for four or five. But by week eight, nine, ten,
You're like, yeah, this is what he kind of looked
like in college.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
So Rogers is below.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
I would take no. I'm just if you see j. Stroud,
you could pick tomorrow for the next three years. Forget years.
Who do you think right now is better?
Speaker 5 (20:52):
C J?
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Or Aaron I would say c. J. Stroud, Oka, Kyler
Murray or Aaron I would take Conner Murray. No, I'm
not knocking Aaron his last year.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Joan Watson Aaron.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Aaron, Yeah, Aaron, But I would say this in a
in Aaron's last year in Green Bay. I'm just working
off what I've seen. He wasn't nearly as good as
Jordan Love last year.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Okay, I think you need to do one to thirty two.
Let's just rank them all, rank everything.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
Nobody has time for that. What do you mean people
stop it when nobody has time for well, no, nobody
cares about quarterback twenty one. But I would say, I.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Mean it might be Drake May for all. I don't
know he did.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
Jayden Daniels, you were just hot on him for an
awesome training camp or something like that. Come on, I
don't know's Kaylee you said maybe it was during the
commercial break something about Caleb Williams.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Maybe you have him top twenty five and he hasn't
taken a time. Caleb Williams, by week one or two,
you will say he's better than Aaron, and that's gonna
knock at Aaron. I think he's that talented. You think
I'm crazy. By week two, I looked at c J. Stroud.
And I'm like, oh, yeah, this is this is Jared Goff.
But it took Goff a year to get Sean McVay.
By Goff's second year with McVeigh, you were like, oh,
(22:00):
that's the number one pick. He looks really good. But C. J.
Stroud got the right coach, right left tackle, right out
of the draft, so it's different. But Goff looked like Strele.
But it took you know, Thanksgiving year two when he
had McVeigh, he had the left tackle, he had the
right staff, and.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
Maybe I'd be two rse maybe Cousins and Rogers coming
off this Achilles aren't good.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
I don't We'll see. Maybe you're right and I'm being
too harsh to on you.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
I think all these young guys coming in the league,
they're putting in the time. They're not distracted, they're in
their athletic prime. They heal faster. Many of them have
excellent coaches. Aaron's got a defensive coach who's on the
hot seat and a rebuilt always I think.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
He's listening to the defensive coach Colin it's Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Well, they're responsible for a lot of decisions. I think
Aaron's calling his own number.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Okay, he's at that stage in his career. He's not
listening to Nathaniel Hackett. Okay.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Speaking of that, there's a story around the corner.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
One more heard. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app to listen
live or on demand whenever you like.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
To Nick Wright's point, Joe Burrow's weakest month by far
in the NFL is September. He's under five hundred statistically,
not the same quarterback. So I I think, I really
do believe. Remember for years and years when the Patriots
were rolling, there was always this complaint about how they
got the perfect schedule. Kansas City is a dynasty. The
(23:25):
NFL is like, you know, let's start it in Kansas City.
Drop the banner, Burrow, lamar have to go to Arrowhead.
Just a thought.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
J Mack with a news no, no turn on the news.
This is the Herd Line News.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
NFL.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
I'm just saying, the NFL is not a coincidence league.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Sometimes I just look at cow Hurt and he's got
this this grin, like it's suspicious of everything.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
You're in one of those days.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
You're on one today Cafe Americano time six? Is that
what's going on? I've had a dark chocolate shot a
red Bull Cafe American shot a red Bull, and I
didn't sleep particularly well. But I watched Sugar on Apple TV. Yeah,
wacky pivot in about episode six.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
But I isn't there like an attractive blonde in that.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
Uh there's a lot of you know, Colin Farrell's and
you know anything he's in, you know, it's all hunky.
What TV show except Acorn? Well, everybody's good looking on
those streaming shows. I mean except Acorn, which has all
the British actors that look like real people, and that,
for the record, is wildly underrated by the way, patronized.
Two B that's ours. That's very good too.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Yes, yes, sure, okay, let's start with Kayleb Williams, your guy.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
I think we're going to talk a lot about Caleb Williams.
Chicago fans are are pumped up, so fired up.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
He went first.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Overall, he is the new Bear starting quarterback. He's got
rave reviews. At one NFL Scout called him a super
charged Donovan McNabb. It could be the face of the
franchise for years. Donovan McNabb made a Super Bowl with
the Eagles, multiple NFC title games.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
That would be amazing if Kleb Williams did that for Chicago.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
Yeah, I think he's much better. Nothing against Donovan, but
I I think he's more athletic, and I think he's
more accurate, and I think he's just better. I think
you could say, yeah, will this be a Kobe MJ
where he's not Mahomes, but he's the closest thing to Mahomes.
So like Kobe was an MJ, but he's the closest
(25:29):
thing we've ever seen to MJ. There was a lot
of Kobe qualities where you're like, oh, he has better range.
He's got better range than Michael Jordan. What if we
watch Mahomes and go, he's actually more athletic than Mahomes.
He's not quite as good on the underneath stuff. Maybe
he doesn't have this coach or that. I mean, it's
gonna be hard for him to ever get a coach
that's close to Andy Reid.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Remember you don't think that close to Andy, but remember.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
This about Mahomes. Don't forget this, j Mac. If you
go back to mahomes early career with Tyree Kill, a
lot of free stuff over the top that shut down.
Mahomes could get a little bit into the weeds mechanically,
and Andy would bring him back, like Brian Dabole did
with Josh Allen, who could get a little off his mechanics.
(26:15):
Matt Stafford has a tendency to get a little mechanically
raw loose, McVeigh brings him back. So a lot of
these really talented guys in Stafford and Mahomes and Allen,
you know, they're like a great golfer who's long off
the tee. Sometimes they get you know, they're a little
out in the weeds a little bit, and you know,
when you have all that great talent, you want to
(26:35):
show it off and you lean into it. So remember
Mahomes was an unfinished product and every time early in
his career he kind of detoured Andy take about two
to three weeks. Andy would get him back in the fairway.
Caleb's not going to have that in Chicago. So that
is the one. I think eventually he'll get an offensive coach.
(26:57):
I'm not saying this year next, but I do think
with a young quarterback, especially one that has a propensity
Lamar Mahomes, Josh Allen to be a little bit of
a freelancer at times. You got it. I think the
offensive coach hel.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Over under and this is a projection over under one
and a half NFC title game trips for Kayleb Williams over.
Just remember if we did this for Trevor Lawrence coming
into his career, you would have smashed the over and
he has well.
Speaker 1 (27:29):
The AFC has been much much deeper at quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Fair, but the NFC is kind of coming up with
your guy Jordan Love and your guy Jared Goff and
my guy, they're just good quarterback, Chryce Young, my guy,
you come on, you love.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Nobody loves Jordan Love as much as you.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
I think the state of Wisconsin loves him.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Well, obviously they do their fans.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
You're just a guy out here in California who loves
Jordan Love.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
No. I think I'm reasonable and fair, and when I
buy weeks in, I'm like, this is garbage, this isn't
good enough. Matt Lafleur was mad with him. But I
also have to be reasonable fair, and when somebody flourishes,
I have to say, yeah, okay, I'm wrong. I don't
know why. That's a hard thing, like Berdy's flourished down
for a year and a half and you're just not
giving him the respect. With nine Hall of Famers, here
(28:18):
we go again. It's like driving a Mercedes to work.
Just don't hit a tree.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Yesterday, next story Yesterday at the company Upfronts, Fox announced
Tom Brady will make his broadcasting debut, calling America's Game
of the Week featuring the Cowboys at the Browns in
week one, September eighth, four pm on Fox, Brady's first
announcing game in the NFL. I know you're fired up
(28:42):
for I will probably be on the Browns in this one.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Browns are tough at home.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
I don't trust to Sean. I mean, Joshaun Watson wasn't
even healthy at the end of the year. I don't
I take Dallas, I don't. I don't know the whole
A lot of unknowns. I don't know where Nick Chubb's way.
Eveland's got way too many issues that are mysteries. Dallas
doesn't have any mysteries. They just don't have enough. They don't.
They don't have enough weapons for Dak But I don't
(29:09):
think they're mysterious. Cleveland's too murky for me. I don't
know what to make of the whole Deshaun injury thing.
I don't know's weird. He was injured, I know, but
there was this didn't practice, did practice, and then game time,
I'm not playing. You never see that with a quarterback.
He was cleared to play and said don't want to play.
I've never seen that in my life. In the NFL.
(29:30):
You're clear to play, you play.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
Late last year their offensive line was decimated. Yes, three
four guys down, and you may have forgotten. They have
Jerry Judy in Cleveland. Now compare with Amari Cooper. I
know you weren't high on Judy.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
I'm not high on Judy. I think he's loose and
not dependable.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
I think the Browns are a good bet to win
that division.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Oh, come on, organizationally it's number four. I love betting
on the organization. I'm betting on the team, not the organization. Yeah,
I know the owner stinks. I love their coach. I
think he's I think he's right up there with one
of the best in the league. I think he's better
the Bengals coach. Sorry Bengals fans, well, I think is
really really good.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Yeah, and then its Ravens are gonna pull back a little.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
We know that shocking you ever listen to Cleveland? Uh,
Cleveland media has been hard on Stefanski, Like did they
realize what he's dealt with for years?
Speaker 3 (30:20):
There the it's the media, that's what they do. They're angry,
like they're.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Not in this show. Laughs good times.
Speaker 5 (30:25):
Well that's it. We're not.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
We're not really the Are we the media or we're
not really?
Speaker 1 (30:29):
America's honesty broker and his sidekick A couple of cool couple,
cool guys. Final story to the NBA Nixon Pacers Game
five tonight. O G's out in New York, Hammy Tyrese
Haliburton dealing with a back and ankle injuries. Listen is questionable.
(30:50):
NBA players just falling apart. Donovan Mitchell out last night
because Haliburton doesn't play.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
I'm just I'm gonna be so ticked because you don't care.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
But I'm in a player points pool for the NBA
Playoffs with a bunch of your.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Buddy right there. Nobody cares.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
I'm crushing it, but I need the Pacers tonight.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
It's tough as a Knicks fan, Colin.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
I love New York games at home. I just like
the garden, the vibe. That's cool.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
I mean, I don't know if they have the enough
left in the tank.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
I don't think. I don't know if they do either.
And Indiana's got better debt, they have better bench scoring.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
So wait, they made a good adjustment. So listen putting
Nee Smith on.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
On Brunsan coach. He knows what he's doing.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
He was messing it up early in the series. I
got it in his case after.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Game to remember a small market issue.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
By the way, there is a I don't know if
it's a rumor, but there's an extra day in this
series at between game five and six, and some people
are saying it's because.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
Kaitlin Clark's home opener is in Indiana.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Remember you made that Bowl call.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
And if there's an extra day to help the Knicks
because of Caitlin Clark, that would kind of be funny
if it ends up rooting for Pacers, like because when
her home opener, I believe her home opener is Thursday, Okay, yeah,
and then Friday they push the Pacers game. So if
the Knicks are able to win this and then get
(32:07):
an extra day thanks to Kaitlyn's.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
Huge big I mean that's a big that's a big break.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
And Caitlin Clark's game Thursday is gonna be big.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Yeah, it will. It will get him. I'm telling you right.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Now, listen.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
I don't know if it'll leave the show Friday because
the NFL schedule is coming out, but it won't. Well,
NFL schedule comes out.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
But technically Wednesday, but Thursday's when like all the fun
stuff comes and then the lines are out and second
and third Clark.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
Will be in the A block.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
I would guess there we go.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
Yeah, I'm excited. I want to watch it. J Mack
with the news.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the

couch one of their favorites. That's their super Bowl Buddy
Yo Dog Buddy too. Buddy, Yoc and Scout.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Our dog's name is Buddy. That's a great name for
a dog.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
It is, Hey, Buddy, in case you forget it, you
know so it is. I said this. I'm willing if
I have questions about a quarterback and they end up
being good to go on the air and just say, yeah,
I missed on that one. I mean, NFL GM's whisted
all the time. I didn't like Zach Wilson, the Jets
people did. I like Darnold. A lot of people did,
(34:39):
others didn't. It didn't work. We'll see how he does
in Minnesota. But the Justin Fields thing, I was willing
to give him a chance, but he just never got better.
How that the talent around him got better. They kept
drafting old lineman on line. Was never as bad in
Chicago at the end as everybody wants to say, PFF
had it. Middle of the pack wasn't great, It wasn't terrible,
(35:02):
but it is interesting. A story out today about Justin
Fields is according to Tyd Dunn, who we've had on
this show. In fact, he won our first Big Jay
Journalism Award in The Herd First and Only said that
the quarterback room was blanking toxic as hell with Justin Fields,
Nick Foles, Andy Dalton, that there were arguments among the quarterbacks.
(35:26):
Nick Foles finally just gave up on him multiple times, trying,
you know, as a Super Bowl winning quarterback to help
the young guy and He would often find Justin Fields
not paying attention on his phone, not really interested in
taking advice, and so listen. Word travels fast. In the NFL,
it can be a very gossipy league. The fact he
(35:48):
only went for a sixth round pick is an indictment clearly,
because it's not like Mac Jones. You didn't see a
ton of upside or talent with Justin You did, and
they've always There's been a lot of defenders with Justin Fields. Again,
it's easy to fall in love with talent, but I
always felt with Lamar Jackson, and I'm seeing it now
(36:08):
with Jordan Love. I may have some misgivings year one,
but you see the time they have put into the position.
You could watch Lamar get better in the pocket, his
body got bigger. Lamar Jackson is better every single year.
He adds a layer to it. Like Lebron and basketball.
(36:29):
He just adds a layer to it. I never saw
that with Justin Fields. Dan Orlofsky got criticized for questioning
work ethic before he was drafted. I didn't hear that.
I made calls, but he took a lot of pushback
on that. Well, Justin Fields never got better. Some of
that's on Justin Fields, because the offensive line got better
(36:51):
and the weapons got better. And now this story where
a couple of veteran quarterbacks wanted to help and he
wasn't there for it. Quarterback, more than any position maybe
in American sports, is a highly collaborative position. I mean,
Brady would take his receivers on vacation to Costa Rica
(37:12):
with him. Mark Sanchez talked to He'd fly the guys
out off season to Los Angeles to work out. That's
what they do. It's a collaborative position. Justin Fields too
often his default position in trouble freewheel I'm on a freewheeler.
That's not the position. It is a timing position. Timing
(37:35):
is hours on task. And I see that with Lamar,
I've seen that with Josh Allen, I've seen that with
other quarterbacks, and with Justin Fields, he never got better.
He went for a sixth rounder, he was awful in
the fourth quarter, and now this story. So I always
thought one of his issues, and I saw this with
(37:55):
Zach Wilson, that he struggled to identify defense as quickly.
I think Zach and Justin both struggle with this. I
don't know work ethic of either. I'm sure they care,
but it's reasonable to say a way to solve that
is obviously film room time on task, more hours. And
(38:17):
so I went to Justin Field's draft profile weaknesses and
many people didn't have a feel for edge. Pressure, doesn't
release ball quickly enough, stagnant eyes, invite coverage to the
passing party. I'm not sure exactly what that means. So
it's again, there were a lot of defenders of Justin Fields,
(38:40):
but you got you have to be fair as well.
And if we're going to be critical to Zach Wilson,
which I was, I was pretty supportive of Justin Fields,
but like Thanksgiving of his last year in Chicago, like
he did not getting better. And I'm seeing Jordan Love
make big improvements. I'm watching Lamar Jackson every year makes
(39:01):
substantial improvements, body mind, pocket awareness, passing. I never saw
it with Justin Fields. So this is not a great
story for him. Word travels fast. It's a gossipy league.
And now basically the quote is the quarterback room in
Chicago was blanking toxic as blank, Nick Foles, Andy Dalton.
(39:23):
Those are not toxic guys. Those are not like you know,
poke in the ribs. Guys like Nick Foles is like
one of the most chill guys in the league. Andy
Dalton maybe the nicest guy in the league. So it's something, right,
it's a little bit of an indictment, right, something a
little Isn't he more talented than a six round pick?
Looks like it, like Matt Jones six round pick. I
(39:44):
kind of get justin You're like, what we all.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Like, that's it.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
I mean, Trey Lance didn't work in San Francisco, but
the Niners coaches loved him. Everybody in San Francisco liked him.
That was never the issue. They liked the kid. It
just didn't work accuracy, but he garnered a fourth round pick.
He's good in the room. So if you're not going
to be great on the field, you got to be
good in the room. You can't be bad on the
field bad in the room. That was you know, that's that.
(40:11):
We've had quarterbacks in the league like that, like Johnny
Manziel wasn't committed in the room, wasn't good on the field,
Like you're you're out of the league. You can't do that.
And I'm not saying I'm not saying justin doesn't rise
to that. Not perfectly analogous to that, but it's not
it's not a great story. Yeah, we had someone a
little over a year ago come in here and tell
us you remember to our face, Abouss Fields would be like, you.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Know, show up one minute before the meeting starts. He's
got his hat on. We heard that slouched like imagine
if I just came up here and sat and I
was just like, you know, just checked out.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
Just that was last Wednesday. I didn't say it again.
When you're that talent didn't go for a six round pick.
It's reason and this story comes out, well, who would nobody?
Albert Bru's up making the story.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
Uh, it's definitely not made up.
Speaker 1 (40:59):
It's something. And then you start the drip drip, drip drip,
I said fully.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
He gets his wake up call. You know now In
now nobody wants to run the league, and now you're
a backup.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
We say this all the time. We root for all
quarterbacks to succeed bad quarterback play because fifty sixty guys
will play. We don't root for any bad quarterback play.
It's bad television. And we're forced to watch this stuff
because it's our job. We are looking for B plus
an up. We are rooting for B plus and up
quarterback play. I'd love to I think Justin Fields will
(41:30):
get another shot. I don't think it'll be Pittsburgh Hour
three next
