Please give this.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight to Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Hey buddy, live from
the Tirack dot Com studios Tyrec dot Com. I hope
you get there. An unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free
road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers tirec
dot com the way tire buying should be well. As
we put tonight in the NBA to bed Oklahoma City wins,

(00:51):
that series is two too. The Celtics, despite their buy
into the NBA Finals, they still have to play games.
They beat the Cavaliers, as Donovan Mitchell Tonight and Jared
Allen still sure. Uh so they're up three one to
that series. So now we can get into the two
biggest stories that we're going into the Knicks and Caitlin
Clark's WNBA debut.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Only sixteen more hours till your Knicks take the court.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Oh, I know, I can't wait. I can't wait really,
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Oh dude, Look after yesterday, Look, I told you, okay, backtrack, gather, Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
So there's things that I'm okay with and things that
I can't stand after the last couple of days of
the Knicks Pacers. We've got levels. We're yeah levels, Jared levels,
Jerry levels. Uh, I don't mind. I told you the
series is going to be too too, Right when the
Knicks were up to nothing, you knew going home the
Paces were complaining about the officiating. I said it was

(01:47):
gonna be too too It could have been the shot
by Nemmard may wind up being a shot that flips
the NBA playoffs, because clearly the Knicks that was that
might have been their last stand. I knew it was
gonna it's going to end at some point because the
Knicks are too injured. It's too much of a magic
carpet ride, like it's it's very hard to win when
you're down this many players in the playoffs and there's

(02:07):
only so much you can do. There's only so much
strategy you can do with your tips when you're only
playing seven guys, and a couple of guys are coming
off the bench that they haven't played all seasons. So okay,
I will.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Get because he didn't do what you just did.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
I mean, there's only so much you can do. It's
so much you can do. I'm hoping there's enough, hoping
they have enough to get through the Pacers, but I
said maybe they don't. And even when the Knicks were
up to zip, I said, hey, look, pacers can still
win this series because they're so upset. They're going to
get the officiating. We're going to get that bump that
goes back their way and they're going home and they're

(02:42):
going to play games. Okay, so I told you that
was gonna happen. Now I'm telling you I'm not gonna
be surprised that the Pacers win tomorrow night, if they
win by ten tomorrow night, because the Knicks, when you
see them play. Finally, Josh Hard is saying, I was
a little tired. It's a little more difficult, and I'd
like to think that maybe coming home they get a
little bit of a jump and it's Madison Square Garden

(03:03):
crowd and energy. Look, as Kurt Healing told us last hour,
I can see Devincenzo again to having a really hot game.
So I want to think that maybe they have two
more wins in them. They have two more games at
MSG as long as they win one of the next two.
So yeah, I want to think they're gonna have a
better outing tomorrow night. But the Pacers are deeper.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
They're causing problems when Rick Carlisle doesn't get out of.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
His own way. The Pacers are matchup difficulties for the Knicks.
So yeah, I'm not gonna be surprised it's going to
end at some point. I'm just enjoying it all the
way through. And I'm not gonna sit here and say
out because everybody gets everybody gets hurt. Not gonna go,
oh if this guy was hurt and this guy is there.
But the bottom line, as you can't ignore, the Knicks
are missing four guys from their nine man rotation and

(03:46):
five depending on how healthy certain guys are during the game. Okay,
it's gonna happen. So I'm okay with what's going on.
I knew was gonna go like this. I'm hoping the
Knicks have enough. But and they have enough to get
to the Eastern Conference Finals. It's better for the league,
it's better for everybody, it's better for me. But if not,
I'm not going to be completely surprised.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Now, I did have to chuckle a little bit there
as you as you did your your rant, because multiple
times you went to the officiating thing, congestion.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
It was a big storyline. It was a big storyline.
That's a big storyline after but you tried to dismiss
it as a well and then they win. It's like
as if it was a cause and effect of them
complaining about the officials to where they go and get victories. Well,
because that's going to get into as opposed to the
war of attrition that we've been discussing all along in
parallel with this narrative that you just had to make

(04:34):
sure as much as you were going to talk about
the officials, I can have them play back the tape
on the end of the last week. No, no, no,
this was this was my bridge to get to what
real what pisses me off, and what pisses me off
is not because that was a big thing for here's
Rick Carlisle, thirty years of Nicks haven't done anything, but

(04:55):
now suddenly big market teams, right like Curti heil and
talked to us about. Is that all the Hacers did
was whine and cry the first two games about the
officiating and how unfair it is and here's seventy eight
plays and here's oh, small market teams don't have a chance.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
They cried and they cried, and he didn't say that directly,
and the talk what was he talking about. I mean,
little guy to have a chance.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
He cried and cried and cried and cried. And now
that they've won two games, now they're all haughty and well,
we know the Knicks are a dangerous team and we're
doing this, and we're doing but it was just crying
so much, you know what they were like. They were
like a little kid who cries and cries and cries,
and you don't want to give in and give him
his toy because you want to show they crying is
going to get you something. But eventually go, okay, fine,

(05:46):
and you give the kid his toy and he stops crying,
and then all of a sudden, oh, I'm fine and
we can we can have a normal conversation.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
No, I'm still mad at you because you spent all
this time crying.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Because I didn't get your toyl Have you not realized
that's what happens an allocation of resources across anything, right,
the squeaky wheel gets through the grease.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
He cried more Mike, Rick carlosle after the first two
games are Jason after the Pacers whooped that ass?

Speaker 1 (06:14):
I think I cried after that. It was thirty four fourteen.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
It was well, he's still just desponding about that. Nemar,
don't like that shot showing no, no, no, no, sure no.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
I'd rather hear Rick Carlisle crying about the calls.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
The little guy doesn't get a chance anymore. Big business
is pushing everybody out the mom and.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Pops and they whooped your ass. Stop we were beating them.
Everything was great, and then Rick carl went and now
they won and now it's different. Now, oh hey, everything
is fine and I have a lot of class and
I'm talking normally at the end of a press conference.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Did that irks me?

Speaker 2 (06:52):
It pisses me off, just to go from like I said,
they're like a little kid that cries and finally give it. Here,
here's your toy, here's your pacifier or something, and then, oh,
now we can have the same relationship we had five
minutes ago. No, I need some time because all you're
doing was crying to get your way, crying to get
your way.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
That's all you wanted. That's all Rick Carlo did was
cry to get his way.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
And oh, now we're sending all this video to the NBA.
We weren't gonna do it after game one, but now
we're gonna do it after game two. And here's seventy
nine plays. Seventy eight plays, So if you called it fairly,
there would be zero fouls on my Indiana Pacers players,
and every next player would foul out by the middle
of the third quarter if you called the game right.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Oh that pisses me off. So there you go.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
That's the first thing that makes me mad. How is
what you just did any different from what Rick Carlisle did?
And again I go to see I want the more
you get this, I say, hell no, that's exactly.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Why I didn't say I wanted calls.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
I said I met because they've gone from we're crying
about this and now they've won a couple of games.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
Now, okay, okay, I feel better now, okay, okay, I
can I can talk like an adult.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
I can talk now. That's why. That's what this is
why I didn't ask for acall. That's what happened.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Look, the guy can only respond to the questions that
are asked.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
No, no, no.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
If you think that the small market teams not getting
a show, and that was a nice on just talking about,
you know, the society as a whole.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Are you gonna send it he plays into the league, Yes,
glad you asked. We had twenty nine plays from game one.
Now I got seventy eight plays after the first two games.
Come on, man, that I'm just gamesmanship. You call it
for what it is. You don't have to like it.
I'm so sad.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
And the fact that your team then lost two games,
but now I have no.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
And just lose Mike, they got their ass beat.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Well, yeah, yesterday was j Car talking about his son's
golf trips. The game got so bad it went listening
to it on radio. But look, you're kind of doing
the same thing you now, you're basically he can for
two games that they got over the last chick as
opposed to recognize what it was.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
I just said, I'm upset that. But pisses me off
is to watch him cry and complain and moan and cry,
be so upset and then after they win two games
because now they got it settled, Okay, now I can
be in adultine. Isn't that whatever.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Extent that extent small market teams, the little guy is
getting squeezed out?

Speaker 1 (09:22):
What the kind of crap is that? Come on? Man?

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Like Kurt Healing said, the Knicks haven't been good in
thirty It doesn't matter. You're still New York and you
became insufferable being good for two years. Then we're right
back screaming a who doesn't know who the hell's on
the team.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
If they're apologists, that's out there, dude.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
If the Knicks were getting calls it be in the
playoffs more than once every seven years.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Oh the Knicks get a you're emblematic in this moment,
Nick stand for all of the other markets. And that's
all he was trying to say. Seventy He was probably seventy,
of course he was. But to go and again, if
you're gonna go in and say how many do you well,
we could have sent it a lot but we only
felt like sending for you.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
You were trying to make the points double exclamation points.
He's like a youth coach of cos and talks the
referees after a game, going this was wrong. You did
this wrong, and this wrong and this wrong with So
the next game you referee, when we play, you guy,
we play at four o'clock. I expect things to be
a little bit differently. It's all you never did that.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
You never talked about it and talked to an official
about calls. No, because you don't win. You don't win.
You don't win talking, you don't do the trust me,
you do not win. Oh, Carlile, did you do not win? Well,
it's the NBA, it's said, no small market. Look at
what's happening does We're getting your head dude?

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Stop now, this is whats This is what really pisses
me off, really really, this is what really did really honestly,
is that every team in the NBA playoffs loses by twenty.
Every other night a team loses by twenty. The Celtics
have lost by twenty a couple of times, the Nuggets
have lost by twenty a couple of times. Everybody loses

(10:55):
by twenty. Everybody but the Knicks. Everybody loses by twenty.
Look at this left.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
When a team loses by twenty, what do we get
from them from the national media? Punt it's every Well,
that's a game. You know, they gave it away. Obviously
they'll be back and they'll be playing well the next game.
Obviously you have players that are resting, and it happened,
wasn't there night They understood that, and the twenty point
burial happened every night.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Good teams get blown out by twenty. The Knicks lose
one game, one game where they get blown first time,
they get blown out, and it's it's over.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
It's over for the it's over. It's over. Everything is over.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
The even Cenzo stinks, Josh Hart stinks, he can't play.
Jalen Brunson's done. It's over.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Wait, it's one game. They look, Yes, they were bad.
They lost by twenty five. The game was over early.
I get it. But most team well will bounce back. Though. No,
it's over. It's over. It's ever been's over.

Speaker 5 (11:46):
It's over.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
It's over. It's over. That's what pisses me off. Then no, no, no,
they can't come back. They can't do it. They can't
do it. No, no, no, no, there's no way, there's no way,
there's noise. They're just over just because they lose one
game by twenty, but everybody else loses by twenty.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
It's well, of God, you come back and win this
series off, gonna have a big game here. Lose my
twenty teams with by twenty all the time, except the Knicks.
Accept the Knicks. Everybody it's over for the Knicks. That's
the other thing that really pisses me. Well, that's the
price of being a big market team with so much
exerting of influence along the way, and people deciding that,
you know, it becomes a hate watching exercise.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
But I'll help.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
You out here to the point that for the Knicks,
what was the praise of the Knicks earlier in the playoffs?
Look at what they're doing in spite of this, but
waiting for the other shoe to fall right, waiting for
that to drop and for this to become a problem
that you don't have a deep enough bench, but you
don't have enough guys. And so after this burial, it

(12:44):
became a all right, are they finally spent?

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Right?

Speaker 2 (12:46):
If Josh Harden who the other day said the only
time he gets tired is when his wife's yelling at him.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Ha ha.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
See that was funny until they got their asses whooped,
and then he finally admits to being tired.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Right, So if he's admitting that J.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Grunson has been dragging their asses all over the short
what's he got left? That's what That's what the question of,
All right, did it finally topple? Right?

Speaker 1 (13:08):
You've been able to ride it so long? Now? Is
it a little more gleeful? Perhaps that No? But you
know why it shouldn't be is because it's not like
the Knicks has started the series and they're down three
zip and it's over. It's two two, and the Knicks
have home court advantage, I get, But it's over for
them though, But the again, but the other teams, they
still have all the principal players that the expectations were

(13:28):
lofty about for the knickses, all right, they're riding this
as long as Thibodeau and the mad Max beyond Thundernome
or Fury Road guys out there with his flaming guitar
and his mask, as far as that's going to take them,
And wondering if that wasn't the death no for the squad,
because they got raced out of the gym.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Everybody looked tired, everybody looked beating. It doesn't mean that
they don't come back with a big effort tomorrow. They're
in front of the home crowd and Ben Stiller and
Jason Bateman and everybody else.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Ben Stein, he's dead and ben Stein? WHOA? I don't
think he is. We would know that if ben Stein
was dead? What why did you have to what about
his money? Can we still get? Asked Jimmy Kimmel, why
do you have to bring up the fact that maybe
a guy he's not dead? I know he's not. Why
about why would you have to say? I mean harmon

(14:19):
just and in the middle all.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
I want to make sure I haven't said anybody is
dead and yet tonight, so I'm gonna say it now.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Why would you Well, I was gonna phrase it as
is he still with us? You were making we went
to the band, you were making such a great point
about and you decided Ben I want to jump in.
I was making a great said what I was making
a great point until Knucklehead and Billy jumped in with
ben Stein could have said anything about him except you said,
oh is he dead?

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Like why I almost said he had a good run?

Speaker 1 (14:47):
What you would have gone and gone down that road anyway?

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Why do you have to bring up anything about a
lifespan alor any Why do you have to do it?
Why couldn't you have said something else about ben Stein's
money or Ferris Bueller's day off for Dave?

Speaker 1 (15:00):
No, I want to go to Deaderal Live, Deaderal Live.
I want to go to that. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (15:04):
Why did you, Mike before you kill off the next guy?
Steve Bushman's Okay.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
You know that was a tough one. We should have
called that guy. They really should have called the guy
exit out about a Fresca exit swollen down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend my conference. There you
go what I'm fine with and what I really don't
like and.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Really irrationality of Jason Smith. Ben Stein is still a lot.
That's what we learned about the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
But coming up next, we had a couple of big
stories out of the NFL. We now know what the
opening night game is going to be. How excited are we?
That's next? Right here?

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Fox, be sure to catch live editions of The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,

Speaker 3 (16:03):

Speaker 6 (16:05):
Picture if you will, a world where we chat with

Speaker 6 (16:11):
Facts about human nature and more. Listen to The Fifth
Hour with Ben Mather or the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast
or wherever you get your podcast.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Diaz came in in the ninth and blue the game.
Gave up a home run and then a single, then
a walk and another walk. Then he had the game
all in his hands and he.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Hit a guy to bring in the time run. Then
we went and lost an extra innings the Mets. They lost.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
The winds come and go, The winds come and go.
Fox Sports Radio. I would kill it against Papa Doc Man.
Have been your finest effort of all time.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
I like that. I mean, yeah, everybody's swaying.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
I thought Martin was going to pick and get the
flashlight going on his phone before long.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Relive that ninth inning of the Mets game.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
How'd your manager not going get tossed out on Prince
on that check swing?

Speaker 1 (17:15):
You know there's no no, we have no which one? No, no, no,
there's no highlights. I heard there's no highlights. There's no
highlights of what? There's no highlights the game tonight? Well,
you're right, because we don't. There's no highlights of Mets. No,
there's no highlights. Do you have the hit by pitch
that tie the game of the ninth one strike away
from winning? Do you have the hit by pitch? Oh? Okay,
then we won't need to hear it. That's what you
actually thought we rolled. No, No, I figured you had

(17:37):
all the bad Mets highlight for you have all the
beds every night.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
You can't hold that many highlights have sucked more than
the next the dude, just stop, man, you're not your
Your Lakers are not in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Don't respect the knicker in the playoffs. Yeah, your best
player is hanging out in Cleveland going hey, if the
Lakers don't sign me, I'd come back here. Why not up?

Speaker 2 (18:00):
Can I just say though, nicely done, you know, just
for the two minutes here? How pathetic was that what
the Lebron was at the game today? Got Cavalier's give
you tell what he's doing.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
He knows what he's doing.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
Jealous is go to Cleveland courtside. It costs like four bucks. Listen,
there's no there's no coincidence that on the day where
got four dollars, but four hole dollars. There's no coincident
on the day, Bronnie James as I'm staying in the draft,
Lebron has seen courts that at the Cavs game.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Because what leverage does Lebron have with the Lakers. I
could go here, I could go here, go here, I
can go back to Cleveland and play with Bronni because
maybe Cleveland's gonna draft Bronny to which someone should go
to around Plake, he's giving us an out, He's giving
us an out. He knows what he's doing. He always does.
This was this was clearly a message of going, hey,

(18:50):
if you don't give me what I want, hire the
guy I want whatever it is draft Bronni, I have options.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
But hey, Winhorse said last week option Lebron has gotten
nothing to do with coaching search.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Did you not see him say that?

Speaker 2 (19:04):
No?

Speaker 1 (19:05):
And I agree that I don't think Lebron has as
much impact on the Search as he does the kicking
them out at the end. He definitely has a lot
of influence. But the coming in no, because maybe Lebron
is like me where I always say something where like
if we're playing a game, because my wife and I
are big gamers, we play. I don't mean like like
Fortnite or Fallout, but like we played.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Game Sea the middle of the ice and you're like,
you're not yelling at.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
Eight year old No, I can't. I got you. I
can't have to smoke you out. I can't run the
controller like I need you to do well at all
these games. You're just doing you need combinations, You're just
pressing the button. But I always say, if, like if
we're playing a game, a trivia game or something, and
or if we're a trivia on a Wednesday night and
we don't know the answer and we think it's between
two answers, I always say to my wife, I go

(19:51):
we'll go with yours. We'll go with yours, or somebody
else's will go with that, And they go, why do
you really think? So I go, well, I'm not quite
sure about mine. But if it's wrong, I'd rather be
able to blame you than it be my fault. So
go ahead, all right, Cower. So that's how good I'd
rather do. Okay, I'd rather be able to blame you
than it is okay, that's if I don't know, if
I know, I try to convict. Hey, no, this is
the answer. This is the answer. That's the answer. But
sometimes like I'm not sure, you might be right. I

(20:14):
might be right. Let's go with yours, so I can
just blame you. That's all.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
That's a great strategy, man, go through life that way. Hey,
it's your fault. And now a guy, I knew it.
I knew it. It works going straight out into the woods.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
It was your fault. It was just all your fault.
Seems like a next final shot. Well no, no, no.
In the case of yesterday's game, oh that wasn't a game.
I you know, I almost wouldn't either. I always would
have rather the Nicks just decided, you know what, we're
we're just throwing this game away. Game three was very difficult,
and so guys aren't even gonna play. But that's the

(20:47):
thing that let me ask you about that, because we
haven't got it and is going to start for us,
because we haven't gotten to that point in the conversation.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
I've let you vent, you've gotten your your run in
on the series and what pissed you off, what pissed
you of whatever, however you've qualified all of those is
why were those guys still in the game when it
was a thirty point game.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
They came out, They only played thirty minutes. They can win.
It was a fourth quarter, they came out. He took
the guys out, and the.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Only guys still have to play. Five man, you're still
gonna on the bench in their their finest warm up attire.

Speaker 1 (21:23):
Let them ere in a sweat you.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Gotta it was Mother's Day only Joseph Mom the guy
played in a playoff game the Knicks did show loved
him on.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Hey listen, you only need to watch the very beginning,
before you knew they weren't gonna win. You could turn
it off and brunch. That's all it was.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Now we love more.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
NBA on the way you find the evil culprit. But uh,
we found out today. In the next forty eight hours,
it's gonna be a lot of fun in the NFL.
We're gonna find out everybody's schedule, the big games on
NAWI TV. We're gonna predict all to seventy two.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
But we get the opening game is going to be
Baltimore and Kansas City.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
Now we knew Kancity would open up at home. Were
getting a rematch of the AFC Championship game with the
Ravens and the Chiefs. And when this happened, my reaction,
honestly was EH, because I've lost my excitement for the Ravens.
Even though Lamar Jackson as incredibly exciting as he is,
and he's a fun guy to watch play, there's nothing

(22:19):
else about that team that is fun to watch. There's
nothing I go, oh, I really can't wait to see what.
They don't run the ball all that great, they don't
throw the ball all that great. They play really good defense.
Lamar's exciting, but I kind of know the Ravens to
this point, and maybe part of it is also I
know the Ravens are just gonna fall short like they
do every year. Every year the Ravens. Oh, the Ravens

(22:40):
have this, they have this, they have this, they have this,
and then somehow they find a way to not win.
They had the AFC Championship game at home against a
not great version of the Chiefs and they scored ten points.
Ten points, So I'm done. They just don't They just
don't move the needle for me as excitement wise like
they used to. Yes, I love watching Lamar Jackson do
his thing. He's a great player, but overall, it's not

(23:02):
like the Ravens or the Cowboys or the Dolphins or something.
It just doesn't So when I saw Chiefs Raves, like, okay, well,
hopefully it's a good game. I mean, normally the Chiefs
have done whatever they want to do with the Ravens
of the last few years, so it's probably gonna wind up
a win. It's not gonna be the win that I
predicted for the Lions to win last year and they did.
But it just they've gone past that. They don't move

(23:24):
the needle for me anymore. They just don't do a
lot for me overall. Is being excited to say, oh, hey,
I really can't wait to see them play on national team.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
And that's where the tough thing is for me, is
like just the opening game. Since we haven't had football
for a while, and the UFL has been fun to watch.
We've had it on here at Sunday Mornings. You know,
come in, do the show. I've got Ryan Hollins with
me on Sunday Mornings right now, and that comes in,
you know, the.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
Final half hour.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Right as we're getting off air, they kick off, and
that's that's fine, but it once the NFL comes back,
you can give me whatever game you want. I'm intrigued. Right,
even give me some Panthers and Patriots and I'll play
each other. But even if they I mean, but I
understand the tradition. I understand, Hey, here's the defending chance,
the pomp and circumstance, and as we've talked about a

(24:08):
little bit tonight and in the past, right, so long
as you've got Travis Kelsey, Taylor Swift, Yeah, you lean into.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
It as much as you can, right for a national audience.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
But when it comes to Chiefs Ravens, I don't need
that bullet that that whatever that gift spent in week one,
because it doesn't matter in week one, you know, what
I mean, like it doesn't have the same juice.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Like if it's Week sixteen and.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
We're talking about you know, hey, this is a game
where we're talking about home field advantage, we're talking playoffs
whatever there in Week one, I can't give it the same.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Level of gravity. Well, no, I just can't. But here's
the thing is that, And here's what the NFL is
with the Chiefs playing Week one. What they say is, okay,
we we know that a big story is always going
to be the TV ratings for certain prime time course
in the first game.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
And I stipulate to the business. You don't talk a
me is a viewer. You don't want to go backwards,
So you don't want to go backwards. So you want
to make sure we put a team out there that
everybody's going to watch. And who's going to watch any
team more than the Chiefs with Mahomes and Kelsey everything else.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Yeah, I stipulate to the middle. If you could put
another game out there, but not as many people are
going to watch as watch the Chiefs. If you put
the Texans and the Steelers out there, or you put
the Chargers and you're not personal reference. So I don't
care what it is so right, But but but you
you need to be able.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
To say, okay, we have to push and and have
our our top teams and show hey, everything is still great. Well,
especially when you're trying to sell you know, one hundred
million dollars game packages. Yeh, I mean you can't open
at night?

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Did well? Opening night wasn't well? We had we had
normally we get about sixteen million people. This was or
twenty one this show show.

Speaker 4 (25:53):
You could literally replay last year's Week one opening night
game and nobody would even know, and the ratings would
be twenty million.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Yeah, they would say, the boy, the Lions are good again. Man,
look at this, this is fairly Wow. Can they just
resign their quarterback?

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Wow? Man, it's not about ratings. They're gonna they're gonna
get their people. Canarius Tony is still on the team. Wow,
that's amazing.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
Look, and I get it, like it's the larger business
of it eyeballs and attention or whatever. But I do
contend that I don't know how much of a drop
you're getting after a six month, seven month disappearance in
the NFL, how much to whatever you put out there, right,
because you can sell hope in almost every market if they.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
Could, if they were confident they could do that, they
would do that. They would they would, Hey, week is
because early on, you're right, there's more of an appetite
for teams that Hey, maybe you're coming off last year
you're interested in. Right, Let's say the Steelers, for instance.
You could put the Steelers out there and you would
think there'd be a lot of interest. I want to
see Russell Wilson week one. I want to see that
Orphan's justin field, whatever it is, and no matter what happens,

(26:53):
I'm interested. Now if the Steelers stink and they're six
and ten, are you tuning in Monday Night Football at
the end of the year when maybe Russell will No,
it's not. But if the NFL was confident enough that
they could do that, they could get those numbers with
those teams, they would do it. And they say, well,
we'll say we'll save Ravens and and but I Chiefs
for Week sixteen.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
Can I just think with this particular matchup, like for
the implications of the the larger season as a whole,
and the expectations that are that are built therein for
the Ravens, that they're going to be good again, that
they're going to be challenging the Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
I don't need this in week one.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Just don't like it's not going to prove to anything,
to be one way or another as a jump off point,
that's just me.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
Well, well, look, you're talking about the defending champs and
the road still goes through. Does a road not go
through Kansas City every year in the NFL? Of course
it does. Do another five Oh wow, what's Rick Carlisle.

Speaker 5 (27:51):
You know the small market teams like Kansas City they
don't get calls like the other teams.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
Oh wait a minute, they get all the calls all
the time. I gotta stop that again. I gotta go back.
Is Andrew look still playing? No, I gotta move on.
All right, that's fine. The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carmon Live the Tyreck dot Com Studios. I wish the
Ravens were more. I wish I liked them more. I
wish they were more exciting, they were more of a
draw like they were three.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
Now you have say Flowers and Derrick Henry had compliments
if Derek Lamar Jackson, by the way, they're also healthy,
Like I can't let the conversation end without at least
acknowledging that, yes, in week one, we know.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
We're gonna see Lamar versus Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
And now I have to knock whatever this desk is
made out of as I say that, But if Dereck
Henry was.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
Still good, the Titans would have kept him. If he
was still good, they would have kept him, because not
like they had, hey we have your heir apparent all
ready to go. It's like, well, we got a couple
of guys that we like, and maybe if he was
still really good, they would have found a way to
keep him. That was his whole career was there. They
would have found a way. You think they want him
to play the whole whole career there and go into
their Ring of Honor and all of that. Of course

(28:58):
they would have.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
If he's still gonna going to the Ring of Honor,
he's still gonna go into Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
He'd be there.

Speaker 2 (29:02):
If you decided you didn't want to pay the running
back that amount of money, I can't fault you.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
In today's day and age, talk now to find out
what's trend to get the wide world of sports, Martin
Wise and Dob what do you got for us bun?

Speaker 7 (29:15):
Last night, the Oklahoma City Thunder had a furious fourth
quarter comeback. They beat the Mavericks one hundred to ninety six.
Low scoring matchup. Jay Gilders Alexander had thirty four of
those hundred. Chet Holmgren eighteen points, nine rebounds.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
PJ. Washington the high man for Dallas. He had twenty
one points.

Speaker 7 (29:31):
Luca Doncis eighteen points on six for twenty from the floor.
Kyrie Irving had nine points on four to four eleven
from the floor. Series now tied two games apiece after
four Better news for Dallas fans on the hockey side
of things, as a Dallas Stars take care of the
Colorado Avalanche five to one.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Wyatt Johnston had two goals for the Stars. They take a.

Speaker 7 (29:50):
Three to one series lead in that second round series.
Celtics beat the Cavaliers last night in Game four one
O nine to one oers who Jason Tatum thirty three points,
Jalen Brown twenty seven, Darius Garland had thirty said it's
unacceptable the way the referees called the game because Cleveland
only had five free throw attempts that were based off
what happened on the floor. They had seven overall, but
two of them were technical free throws. Kars Lavert and

(30:13):
Evan Mobley both had nineteen. Boston now takes a three
to one series lead over there. The game by between
the Rangers and the Hurricanes, Rangers had a won nothing
lead until the Hurricanes scored for unanswered third period goals.
Hurricanes win four to one, giving the Rangers back to
back losses in the postseason their first losses of the postseason.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
New York still leads the series three games to two.

Speaker 7 (30:36):
The lines of quarterback Jared Goff agreed to terms on
on our four year contract extension yesterday worth up to
two hundred and twelve million dollars, one hundred and seventy
million of that guaranteed. The deal averages up to fifty
three million per season. That means only Joe Burrow, the
Bengals quarterback, makes more on an annual basis in the NFL,
and after being punched in ahead during Game three, Brad

(30:59):
marchand to Game four, but the Bruins captain is expected
to travel with the team on Tuesday for Game five
against the Panthers. Panthers lead that series three games to
one and After twenty four seasons as head coach, Iowa
women's basketball coach, Lisa Blueter said she's hanging them up.
She announced her retirement Jan Jansen, who's been her assistant
for like twenty something years. Jason shut it out earlier today,

(31:22):
sometimes you just gotta wait a little bit to get
that jobulation a little bit, so assistant coach for about
drinking age, and then all of a sudden, boom, there
you go. After after twenty something years, she's now promoted to.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
Be the Hawkeyes a new head coach. Jason and Mike
back to y'all. Thanks a much. Hey, I'm retiring, you're retiring.
I'm retiring.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
I couldn't wait anymore.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
I'm done, man, I'm done my twenties, my threies, all
those high energy years. I'm done waiting for you to go.
It must have been cold there in my shadow.

Speaker 1 (31:50):
I've fitted. But look, worst song. Everybody weird that Lisa
Bluter is picking now after everything is gone, and oh no, no, hey,
that one girl transfer is gonna take Caitlin Clark's place,
the big scorer this year. But look, I can't, I
can't falter because after twenty after all, twenty four years,
You've gone to back to back national championships, you coach
the best player in women's college basketball history. Is really

(32:12):
going to get better? Yeah, I kind of like the
fact that she feels like, Okay, I know I'm done.
I know I'm done. I did a lot. It's a
new era to the game. I know I'm done.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
Right, It's a new era for the team with Caitlin
Clark moving on. As you said, you bring in a scorer, right,
one of the top in the game last year. So yeah, here,
here's a passing passing the torch in all respects.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
Exit out about a fresco exit swalling down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon Coming up next,
there is an NBA star we absolutely have to talk
about after what happened tonight. S next right here, Jason
to Mike fuck.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
Luca's missing foul shots at the end, early missing shots
from the floor. He's a volume shooter and he's stunk
for much of the playoffs. Not as good as Jayleen Brunson,

(33:16):
because how good is Jayleen Brunson, Boy, Jalen Brunson is great.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Fox Sports Radio, You're terrible human beings.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
Smith just started great and then you decided to make
it about the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
We can talk NBA for more than three minutes.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Without Nick Nicks Nick's brain.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Okay, you got sixteen hours before you get back to it.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
Brunson's better than Luke.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
Okay. Uh, the Jason Smith show my carbon locket there
studio people hate. This is what happens, Larry, This is
what happens. This is what happens. Is this your homework?
I have a really sure not his homework. Okay, it's
not a homework.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
We watched tonight the Mavericks go down Oklahoma. He jumps
back in.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
A big night for Shae Gildess Alexander not a great
night for Luca, which is becoming a theme in the
NBA playoffs. He had eighteen tonight. You look at his numbers,
final numbers look okay, But another night six for twenty
from the floor, missing a huge free throw that would
have tied the game with ten seconds left. This is
who Luca has been throughout these playoffs. He has been

(34:21):
a volume shoot shooting. He has not played well. And
I know that he's twenty five, but this is like
you're talking about six years now that you've been building
around Luca and trying to give Luca what.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
He's needed to succeed. Well, Porzingis didn't work, kicked him
out of town, and finally, oh, well, now we got
Kyrie Irving. Okay, we got the guy we wanted to
play alongside Luca. His game fits, it all fits.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
And now they gave away a two to one lead
in Oklahoma City has the home court advantage to go back.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
These teams, Oklahoma City and Minnesota. Look, they were below
the Mavericks three four years ago, they were at sixteen
wins and still look at what they've done with their
star players, jumping to the top of the conference, winning games,
being NBA title threats. And look at the Mavericks. They're
still the same. They're still a nice forty five, forty
eight to fifty win team. When they get in the playoffs,

(35:13):
maybe they went around, maybe they go out in the
second round, but it's not like they're trending upward. They're
not trending towards now. Luca is one of the most
dominant players in the league. And he is single handedly
doing what Lebron and Giannis do, and that is lead
my team to the top of the standings and make
make my team a yearly NBA title threat. They're not

(35:34):
the Mavericks are a team where hey are they good? Yeah?
Oh look, and I picked them go to the Western
Conference final. This is the year they're gonna do it
because Kyrie and Luca are gonna you know, this is
the guy that Luca's been looking for. But here they
are now, and they've been lucky they are where they
are that they're two to two when they get out
of the first round. When Luca's not been good, he
has been a volume shooter. If they go out in

(35:55):
this round of the playoffs, Dallas has to sit back
and say, Okay, we have to do something different. We
can't build around Luca anymore. We can't build around him.
Not saying they're gonna trade him, but instead of saying
what does Luca need, it's okay, we need to take
a little bit off of Luca's plate and figure out
what's better around him that we can and what's better
in addition to him than building around him that we

(36:16):
can win with because clearly we've tried to build around
him for years and we're not getting better. We're kind
of spinning our wheels. So itsday we have to change
our approach and go all right, what's going to work
where someone can come in or a couple of players
can come in and share the load with him and
be someone that we can go to at the end
of games that's not going to miss free throws or
get tired at the end, because that's what happens to Luca.
It's almost like James Hardenware. The end of the game,

(36:37):
you know he's going to be tired and he's not
gonna be able to give you what he gave you
earlier on.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
You have to change, make a big change in philosophy
if you're Dallas and they lose, because clearly, even though
he's twenty five, you've seen six great years him.

Speaker 1 (36:49):
He's a start when he walked into the league, and
you're not any better now than you were a couple
of years ago. Now, a couple of things.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
Obviously, he missed a free throw with ten point one
seconds remaining, that's going.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
To be out there.

Speaker 2 (36:59):
He had two shots to have an opportunity to tie
the game at ninety six. Misses the first, makes the second,
and then they're chasing the rest of the way.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
PJ.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
Washington, big n season acquisition, also missed one down the
stretch where he barely drew Iron. As a team, twelve
of twenty three from the foul line. You know what,
hit your free throws? Here's a lot of ills. You
know what the thunder did they hit twenty three of
their twenty four ball game right there?

Speaker 1 (37:26):
I hear you, But who missed the biggest free throw?

Speaker 2 (37:28):
No, no, but again on the larger scale, I mean
you still as a team shot twelve of twenty three
from the free throw line to put you in such
a predicament. It's great, Bob not to mention down the stretch,
big run from OKC the hallmark of this squad the
second half of the year.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
Yeah, Luca's there, But.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
That they played better defense, bringing in Washington, bringing in
Daniel Gafford, getting Kyrie Irving to commit on the defensive end,
as well as Luca, who played more on both ends
of the court than I think the other ever has,
which means you're not getting those easy minutes anymore.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
Where you were making fun of him.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
For not playing defends, but he wasn't working as hard
on that end of the court, so you had something
left offensively.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
Something's got to give, something's gotta give, and that's where
it is.

Speaker 2 (38:13):
So going forward, I mean all the reports that Kd's unhappy,
is he gonna solve things?

Speaker 5 (38:18):
No?

Speaker 1 (38:18):
Probably not, because let's.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
Pring another guy who's hold on it, and that he's
got a volume shooter, right, and Kyrie, for his part
in this game, took eleven shots. Right, you need him
to be more active. Now, you did win a game
earlier in the series. I don't want to be a
hypocrite because he did shoot only eight times. It was
two for eight in a big one hundred and nineteen
point effort by the MAVs.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
In a win.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
But just the idea of being you've built and you've
changed up the identity of this squad to a degree
for Jason Kidd. Now, what's the next iteration? Again, owing
to the fact that he's twenty five and in theory,
you've still got plenty of big years of what he
is his quote unquote prime.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
Oh, he's still gonna be He's still a terrific player.
But look at it. But It's almost like I feel
like the Lakers are with Lebron. Now, Lebron was good
enough to carry bad teams to the NBA finals, right,
Luca's clearly not that guy. But now the Lakers, instead
of building around Lebron, it's we have to build alongside him,
because now Lebron gets his he doesn't make teams better,

(39:18):
he doesn't drag teams by himself into the finals anymore.
So now it's okay, what is he right? Ad will
do this? He needs a shooter here. We need to
shoot her do this. We need someone to do this,
and someone to do this, whereas years ago, Lebron needs
to be able to get more of that out of place.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
Well yeah, I mean Luca could do what Lebron did
going back to the East.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
It's hey, it's too hard here in the West. I'm
going to the East. Now, you think Jason Tatum's a superstar,
forget it, man, I'll doubt one.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
That's one team.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
Yeah yeah, so Mark, you would say, so you want
me to try to petition against the East. No, No,
I'm leaving. I'm leaving. I'll see you later. I'm in
a second. No come on second, no, no, no, no, dude,
Jalen Brunt, come on, man, Jayleen bnt No, no, Jaylen
brun said, he is. He is the fabric. He's the
best Nick in in twenty five years. I can't forget it.
Did you get did you get the tattoo yet? The

(40:06):
Jalen Brunson tattoo?

Speaker 4 (40:07):
No?

Speaker 1 (40:08):
I get's the one where he looks like the shrunken,
the real tiny ones.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
The shrieking on his lower back. No exit out Valta
Fresca exit, swallen down the Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Carratt. I'm just picturing a little tiny
Jalen Brunson tattoo.

Speaker 1 (40:25):
Who is that? I can't even see. It's up, Yeah,
it's on my arm. Right, you can see it's James's
right there. You do the one where you have yourself
that's my dad. It's my dad. Oh from Mike, I'm
Jason my buddy Ben Maller coming up next. This is
