Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to another episode The Game Preview Podcast presented by
LifeLock Jets, Dolphins in Miami, Week fifteen. Cynthia Freeland in
the house, Coach Sala in the house, John Paulano in
the house. We got a loaded show and the Jets
Cynthia coming off a thirty point second half. I mean,
I don't think we've ever been able to really talk
about an offense explosion in two plus years like that.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Zach Wilson, AFC Player of the Week. You know, gotta
love it.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
The storyline is great. I mean, this is you live
in la and I know this is gonna sound cliche.
It's kind of like Hollywood stuff. There isn't it.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
It's it's certainly something, you know, It's like we're coming
off a strikeout here, so like, yes, you know, it's
kind of a weird, like but yes, it is very poetic.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
There's a lot of great storylines. It is certainly a
what you know, watching an unfolder like ooh the twists
and turn.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
So absolutely, there's definitely a group of people that are like, wow,
the NFL script it's full effect here. Zack Wilson first
game back, three hundred yards passing, first game three hundred
yards passing in a Jets win. He had done it
two times before, but the Jets lost both of those games.
Now I'm shifting ahead to the Dolphins Sunday in Miami.

(01:21):
Supposed to be inclement weather again, because that's all the
Jets like to do, is playing rainy weather.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
But can't catch a break.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yeah, Miami, you should be going down for a quick
little mini vacation and instead you get the bad weather.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, I can't. That's not good. I mean, I'm out
on that. It's like it is forty four degrees up
here in the Northeast. I was hoping for a little
you know, seventy five twenty four hours.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
It must still be warm, right, it just won't be
like super nice.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
I'd read forty Okay. Would you rather be in the
forties and clear or in the seventies and rain, perpetual rain?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Forties and clear?

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Same, Yeah, say that like a good crisp moment, you know,
crispment like the sun.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
I think I need the sun.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
I'm like a I need like a I don't get
that seasonal effective disorder if I'm not.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
I need to avoid that. I need the sun.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Wait, so would you have chosen the rain and seventy
five if I said forty and cloudy or like mid
forties and cloudy and gray.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
It depends, like is it going to rain like intermittently,
like a little shower here and there isn't bad?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Yeah, well what about it? There's like pretty consistent, like
like you're standing on the sideline, you're coming off and
you need to wring out your clothes full force.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Oh no, uh uh yeah. I don't like that. I
don't like my I don't like turning into a prune.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, that's that's not great. And I think luckily for me,
I'll be in the press box but still pre game.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah, they have the food there, you know that though
they have food there.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
You're talking about the press box itself or just in Miami.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Well, in the at least the time I've been there
in the press like the meal that they give us,
it's it was a good one.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
I feel like I don't remember the meal, So I
want to know what your meal was, because you might
have had a better experience than I did.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
However, we have like Cuban sandwiches.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Okay, see if they had a Cuban I'm like weigh
in on that. I think they did not have those
last year because I would have remembered that they did
have key Lime Pie and Keel. I'm not a huge
key Line Pie guy.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
So it's polarizing, you know, but it is kind of
like a regional fair situation.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
It is polarizing, that is true, And for the Jets,
I'm trying to think of a polarizing topic here. I
don't really have one, so let's just dive into it.
Picking up with Zach Wilson. He didn't play against the
Dolphins when they came to MetLife Week twelve, just a
couple of weeks ago. It was Tim Boyle who got
the start. No longer on the team realistically, given everything
we just talked about, like with the weather, you know,

(03:42):
the team, the defense of Miami is vastly improved with
Jalen Ramsey. What do you expect from Zach Wilson coming
off of what I think many people would say is
his best professional game.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Well, they're missing another Jalen, and that's Jalen Phillips up front,
which will help with the pressure because Jalen phil Pallops
was actually like a very big and important factor in
their ability to get pressure. They have some good guys
like all across that front. However, that's probably like the
straw that stirs the drink. So that's a good thing

(04:14):
for Zach Wilson because pressure for any quarterback is a problem.
So the ability for place to develop downfield, the opportunity
to be able to identify good mismatches that include not
throwing to Xavion Howard or to that other guy, Jalen Ramsey,
probably helpful. So I think there are some pluses and
some minuses. We clearly saw the Titans showed us that

(04:37):
there are ways to exploit this dolphin's defense. There are
ways to kind of get the better of them in
a consistent fashion, and there are a bunch of Jets
that can actually do that. Breeze Hall, obviously, I saw
him questionable on the injury report as of the latest
injury report I saw, but that would be a big
factor his ability to kind of be a yack monster,
be the yakka. Yards after the catch, sure, yeah, yards

(05:01):
after context, yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Go, hilarious.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
Go.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
You know, they need a new term for that, because
they do yards after the catch, yards after contact.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Hello.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
I mean, obviously we know if it's in the context
of whatever. But I'm I'm proposing yahka.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Or yahco yahka or yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I'm gonna catch on. We're not gonna catch on.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
I don't think it will. But you know, we'll help you,
will help you try to get that to stick.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
For pretty small pod, it works.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yes, in this pod, we will accept it. You know,
will the vast majority of the NFL world accept it?
I don't know, to be determined, probably not. I think
you should spot test it with your co workers at
NFL Network.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
I actually I do. On Fantasy Live. I say it
a lot so and they usually laugh. But I don't
know if it's like a cursory like ha.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Haha, be nice to me laugh, or if they're like, yeah,
that's cool. I'm gonna go with that. It's cool. My
ego needs that.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
But okay, I think it's cool. You can. You can
have my vote for that. You mentioned the Titans. They
beat the Dolphins twenty eight to twenty seven final score
in Miami on Monday Night Football, which if you didn't
watch the game, it was just a crazy turn of events.
Titans felt like they essentially let the game fall through
their fingers. The Dolphins go up twenty seven to thirteen,

(06:15):
Titans score, go for two, get it, they get the
ball back, they win the game. Like it was just
a crazy chain of events. Now, you mentioned Jalen Ramsey,
Xavi and Howard, two very talented corners for the Dolphins.
DeAndre Hopkins last week or earlier this week had seven
catches for one hundred and twenty four yards and a
touchdown against the Dolphins. How did the Jets get Garrett

(06:38):
Wilson involved? But try to avoid the two guys that
you just talked about.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Well, there's even other guys in their secondary that are
great as well. So really, what you're gonna have to
do is figure out ways to exploit whatever defense they're
giving you. Do the opposite, meaning if they're giving you
zone looks, then you need to figure out a way
to run the football. If they're giving you man low,
you got to figure out that. I trust Garret Wilson
in a one on one. It's it's when it's like

(07:04):
three on one or like seven on one, like that's
when it's a little unfair. So it's one of those
things where get the smart one on ones target When
you have perhaps Garrett Wilson going in the right direction
or some busted coverage because some of those DeAndre Hopkins catches.
I mean, look, Deandre's a really good tight window catcher,

(07:24):
so that and that's what he's been his entire career.
And some of those, though he had so much space
around him, they were to me a bust in coverage.
Like if you're in the red area and you're leaving
DeAndre Hopkins unattended to, probably not gonna end well for you.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Just thought, yeah, I totally agree with that. And in
the Garrett Wilson's coming off a very good game as well,
where against the Houston Texans, Garrett Wilson led the Jets
with nine catches one hundred and eight yards, So definitely
got a high vo Like, I'm pretty sure Garrett Wilson
is one of the higher volume plays in the NFL, right,

(07:59):
not the Jets, yep.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Absolutely, Yeah, anything anytime you're getting like it's been tough
because there's been different quarterbacks with different schemes this whole
season long, but it feels like when it's he and
Zach Wilson paired together, it's that's where Zach's looking. It's
just the number of targets would indicate that pretty consistently.
And we did talk about that linebacker level of the

(08:23):
Texans defense being a problem, and it I mean, they
clearly exposed and exploited that.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
So do you think that the Titans figured out something
against the Dolphins that could be like copied and pasted
for the Jets. Like I'm thinking about Nick Bosa talking
about the Eagles game, He's like, I hope Dallas watched
because you know, we stopped them this way, so maybe
Dallas could do the same. And sure enough, I don't

(08:51):
know if it's the same game plan, but after the
Niners blew the doors off the Eagles, the Cowboys followed
suit and they they had a pretty big win themselves.
So using what Nick Bosa said in terms of this, like,
did the Titans do anything that you think Robert Sala
or Jeff Albrich are like, you know what we saw,
they did this, We're going to copy and paste that

(09:11):
right into our game plan because it clearly worked.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
I mean, look, the Jets have some great advantageous matchups
due to some injuries to the Dolphins O line, namely
the center. When you have a new center coming in,
especially when Tua throws the ball, the fastest. He gets
the ball out the quickest in the NFL. That's his
bread and butter. When you have a center that's new
and different, and you have I think it's the left guard.
Like their whole O line is kind of a nightmare.

(09:37):
Left tackles still and I are like, there's just a
lot going on with that O line. So a lot
of changes, but specifically the center. When you're going to
get the ball out that fast, you need to have
the most perfect exchange between the center and the quarterback
because even a half a second is the difference between
Quinn Williams like pancaking you or getting the ball out quickly.

(09:59):
And that's going to be thing where they're going to
look at what the what the Titans did.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
The Titans are good at bringing pressure, you know Rabel.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
I think if we could, Mike Rabel would get out
there and rush the passer himself.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
So his anger towards that comes out.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
And know Jeffrey Simmons playing, so even without Jeffrey Simmons,
they were able to just exploit.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Those pressure pressure matchups.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
And that's going to be something where the Jets like
already were good at that, and now given these injuries,
and the knowledge of each other's sort of tendencies. That's
going to be very difficult for two to overcome, especially
if Tyreek's not undred percent. I'm very confused about his status.
So let's pretend he's seventy five percent, just for the
sake of like being able to make an approximation. But

(10:43):
they've been using him, you know, they line him up
as a running back, they've used him in screen passes,
they've used him deep like, they've used him all over
the formation. If he's not one hundred percent, a lot
of those tricks then are not as easy to execute.
And then you're asking a whole lot of the running backs.
And then so we get it. We know what happens
with Roberts how and you make things really like if

(11:05):
we know you're gonna run, got it?

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Yeah, it's I think what you said about Hill is
super important. He kind of feels like like the key
that unlocks everything in terms of for that Dolphins offense,
and Tyreek went over one hundred at met life, so
did Jalen Waddle. The Dolphins did not have Devon a
Chan in the lineup, so that's something to think about
where he'll be back in the lineup this Sunday in Miami.

(11:30):
Just all things to consider here and for more on
this week's matchup, let's actually hear from coach Solid.

Speaker 4 (11:36):
What can you say about the DNA of your team?

Speaker 5 (11:39):
It's metal, you know, with all the adversity we've seen
this year, starting four plays, in the ups and downs
of the roller coaster that is the NFL season, really
appreciate the locker room. You know, there's the the gift
of being in this in this areas, it's very loud,

(12:01):
both winning through winning and losing, and you know, it's
it's like Bill part of Sales once said, it's it's
either a disaster or euphoria. And and so it's uh
to get through that and all that noise and to
keep their head down and the way they work and
the way they play for one another. I can't appreciate
those guys enough.

Speaker 6 (12:21):
Did you have a sense late last week that a
performance like that was around the corner?

Speaker 5 (12:27):
You know, I've always got faith in the guys that
go perform. I Mean there's been times where I'm like God,
we're gonna kill somebody. It's like God, what happened? And
there's times we're like God, I don't know if already
and then we come out and play. So I but
I do have faith in the guys, in the way
we prepare and the way we attack the week. And
I was really really pumped up about the language, you know,
just the way you guys were speaking to one another,

(12:49):
the focus through practice. Like I said, it's never really
an indicator, but I've learned along the way. But it
does make you feel warm and cozy on the inside
when it's when it's when it's done the way it was.
But you know, again, credit to those guys, they never
get down. They don't they don't lack confidence. They just
they know that they've got to go out and play,
and coaches know they've got to coach it better. And

(13:10):
I felt like last week we kind of locked arms
and got it done.

Speaker 6 (13:15):
Thirty second half offensive Barrage, what's going through your mind
while you're taking this all in.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
You guys are going up and down the field.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
You know in the moment it's too you know, you're
just trying to seize it right. And defense, I know,
defense is getting jacked up because, shoot, we're playing with
the lead. It's time for them to tee off. In
showcase who they are offensively, gaining confidence after the game.
Just really excited for the players and the coaches, especially
on the offensive side of the ball, and how much

(13:45):
work they've been putting in and having all the changes
and going through all the adversity that's happened over the
course of the year. Just a genuine appreciation for those
guys and excitement for those guys to finally get rewarded
for all their work and hopefully we can do it again.

Speaker 6 (14:03):
You say consistency is the truest measure of greatness. What
do you want from Zach Wilson after perhaps his best
performance as.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
A problem, Just go do it again. Whatever he ate
on Saturday, whatever his process was during the week, just
do it again. And you don't have to make anything up.
Just prepare the way the best way you know how,
and just have fun, play with a smile on your face,
and and just just play with that that mindset to

(14:33):
just let the ball rip. Have faith in your teammates,
have faith in yourself, and and good things usually happen.

Speaker 6 (14:39):
Garrett Wilson has more receptions and more receiving yards in
his first two years two years in the National Football
League than any other Jets receiver. What does that say
about him? Considering all the quarterbacks that he has worked
with here early in his career.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
You know, he's he's a special talent obviously, and and
he's only going to get better. His mindset's competitive edge,
everything about him is special. So you know, it says
a lot about him and his Uh, like I said,
his uniqueness as a receiver, how talented he is, how
hard he is to cover, and how dynamic is he is,

(15:19):
and that he can line up anywhere and everywhere and
uh and still find ways to separate and get himself open.
So he's he's got a heck of a future ahead
of him, and uh, we're excited to watch him grow.

Speaker 4 (15:30):
How about Breece? What a threat.

Speaker 6 (15:31):
He's calm out of the backfield. You know, he can
run in between the tackles. But lately he's been really
taking an advantage of the way teams have been defending
you guys in the past game.

Speaker 5 (15:42):
Yeah, what's been great about Breece is just him getting
those extra yards. He's really finding ways to get vertical
and finishing off runs and runs that for for a
few weeks there that were that were going for one
or two yards, he's finding a way to get three,
four or five more. And uh, he'srunning with great intent,
he's running with physicality, he's making every every touch count

(16:05):
and because of it, you know, he's he's he's earning
a lot of the yards that he's he's gotten over
the last couple of weeks. And hopefully he continues on
that path. And uh, because he he is at his
best when he's going north and south and and he's
definitely had that mindset over the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 6 (16:26):
We know, you guys got the two studs with Garrett
and Brice. How much does it help when you're getting
that contribution from the tight end position. I think Tyler's
been very good for you throughout the year. But now
Jeremy Rutgert's getting part of this.

Speaker 5 (16:40):
Yeah, Rutgert over the last few weeks, you know, trying
to get him more involved, in trying to get him
reps it. It didn't start all that great, but he's
like a young guy should he's getting better and better
and better. He's getting more and more confident. He's really
really good in line in the run game, and he's
shown that he's he's really good in the past game
two and Conklin. Obviously, he is almost like a pacifier

(17:03):
for those guys. I mean give him a fifty to
fifty A. He had two of them in the game
one on both had a big third and seven caught
the ball in the flat, gets vertical to get at
the fourth and inches, which we allowed us to go
for it, which we converted on the jet sweep. So
doing a lot of little things that don't necessarily explode
off the stat sheet, but he's he's creating plays that

(17:24):
lead to more plays that have led that led to
a lot of points in the game. And so that
tight end position has gotten better over the course of
the year and fully anticipated to continue to get better.

Speaker 6 (17:35):
Speaking of the stat sheet, from a defensive perspective, what
are the numbers that you're looking at? The last two
weeks been incredible two point eight four yards per play
against Atlanta in Houston.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
Yeah, you want to go off efficiency, and you know
there's a bunch of numbers I look at. You know,
obviously I'm really big on explosives, trying to eliminate the
explosive plays, keep it all in front of you, make
them go the distance. You know, you're looking at a
yards per play basis, uh, which I know we're up there,
but you know, a lot has been made about the

(18:07):
run defense. But you know we're twelfth in yards per carry,
which which isn't great. You know, we want to be
a top ten unit in that regard. But it's uh,
you know, it hasn't been. It hasn't been as bad
as it may feel. Uh when when games are over,
but the guys are playing their butts off.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
You know, you you look at situational football, third down,
we need we do need to get better. But red
zone defense has been fantastic, and h our two minute
situation defense has been really good this year also. So
it's you know, really really proud of the the coaching staff,
the players, all of them, just the intent and they
the desire to get better and to not let external

(18:47):
noise get into their to their preparation and into their
onto the field. I feel like, especially the last two weeks,
they've played with the mindset to flex their muscle and
and just be their absolute best and it's resulted in
two really good football game.

Speaker 6 (19:00):
You guys were outstanding third down against Houston now in
terms of stop and opposing quarterbacks to the street. Now,
thirty one games without a three hundred yard passer, what
does that say?

Speaker 5 (19:14):
Got a pretty damn good back end and good rush,
good rush unit too, And you know they're doing a
really good job where you know, usually when you give
up those three hundred yards, you're giving up a lot
of explosive plays. And it's one thing that I feel
like we do a really good job of. We keep
it in front, We make you go the distance, and
it's it's hard. It's hard to go the distance on

(19:34):
our group. And they you know, they're they're so smart,
they're so sound, and how they approach things, and they
evolve as the game goes, and it's hard to get
them twice. But credit again to the coaching staff and
the players. They've they've they've earned it. But let's see
if we can extend it a little bit further.

Speaker 6 (19:52):
Well, you got Miami on the horizon. Can you talk
about the importance of divisional games?

Speaker 5 (19:58):
They're always important. You know, there's only only so many
ways you can change your game plan when you're playing
another opponent, an opponent that you played twice a year,
and they know you, we know them, they know our checks.
For the most part, we know theirs. We kind of
have an idea of what they're gonna do. They're gonna
throw their wrinkles in, but for the most part, you

(20:19):
know what they're gonna do. They know what we're gonna do,
and so it just comes down to just execution and
playing at your absolute best and uh, taking advantage of
great opportunities when they're presented. And uh, you know, they're
a talented group. Uh probably one arguably the fastest team
that this league's ever seen, and from the offensive side
of the ball and obviously obviously present a lot of

(20:39):
challenges in that regard, and then defensively, they've gotten better
and better every week. You know, they're they're sitting there
as a top ten unit. Also, Vic Fango is doing
a great job. So there's there's a it's a tremendous
challenge and well, you know it's it always those division
games always get wonky.

Speaker 6 (20:55):
This is the second time in four games that you're
facing off against the Dolphin. I talked to Brest all
about it. He said that I don't think they got
our best, would you say that? As well as far
as that Black Friday game taking nothing away from them,
he said they they played great.

Speaker 5 (21:12):
Yeah they did. They earned their their win and you know,
got out of whack there. It's you know, you feel
like it's gonna be ten six going into the locker room,
and you know, things happen. But it's always, like I said,
division games get wonky. They you know, in one way
or another. And that one was a little bit different obviously.
But we feel like we have a better game to play, obviously,

(21:35):
and and I think I think we'll be ready to
do that.

Speaker 6 (21:39):
I know you're not worried about who's going to be
the NFL MVP, but Tyreek hill Man, he's on pace
for two thousand yards receiving.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
Yeah, what do you think about the season he's having.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
You know, he's as good. He's as good of a
non quarter if you take the quarterbacks out, He's as
good of an offensive player as there is in football period.
You know, I always look at players on whether or
not you're changing the way we have to game plan
to adjust for your presence on the football field. He's
one of those guys your entire game has to change

(22:15):
when you're on the field, and his presence alone is
of high alert from a play calling standpoint to the
players on the field, everybody, and and then you mix
in the fact that they've got he's surrounded by some
really really talented players like Jalen Waddell and Moster and
all the other guys. Barrios is doing a really nice

(22:36):
job too, us doing a great job, and then shoot
throwing McDaniel, who does a nice job with all the
creativity that there that is unique to him. No one
else can do what they do because he's such a
unique individual in regard to how they get it done.
And so he's he's despite the yards, if you took
away the yards because teams have to double one. Whatever

(22:57):
it is, he's as unique an individual from the offensive
side of the ball as er isn't football.

Speaker 6 (23:02):
We've talked about it before. I think you have the
best cornerback group in football. Do you think they relish this,
having the opportunity to go against the best playmaker in
the National Football League.

Speaker 5 (23:12):
Yeah, if you're if you're a competitor, you want their best.
If you're if you're a competitor, you want him to
be one hundred percent, and you want to be one
hundred percent, and you want to stand in the middle
of the ring and you want to swing that's if
you're a competitor. And if there's one thing I know
about Sauce, DJ, Michael Carter and the rest of the
guys on the defense, in the back end, even the front,
they want them at their best and they want to

(23:33):
and they want to stand in the middle and they
want to fight.

Speaker 4 (23:35):
Thanks coach, thank you.

Speaker 1 (23:38):

That's thirty five percent off LifeLock dot com. Great stuff
from coach Sala as always EA shout out for the
interview as well. John Palano in the house, how are
we feeling.

Speaker 7 (24:14):
We're feeling awesome, rawsome coming off a great win.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Now, yeah it was a big win. Thirty points, second
half nothing, nothing, What were your expectations at halftime.

Speaker 8 (24:23):
Zero zero, but as Saua said, it still felt good,
felt like we were moving the ball, and we had
been through so many of those zero zero halfs that
first time, the first touchdown we scored, We're like, the
damn is gonna break.

Speaker 7 (24:33):
This is gonna be all timer, and it was.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
I think the only point, like watching the game, Cynthia,
where you're like, uh uh, like, what's gonna happen here?
Is when Zach Wilson fumbled the ball and then the
Texans immediately go score. You're like, is this really about
to happen? And then the Jets offense boom responded real quick.
You're like, never mind, never mind, That's just a little
blip on the radar right there.

Speaker 8 (24:56):
So yeah, for all I know, we averaged sixty points
a game from here on out, thirty and each half.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
So okay, yeah, that's optimistic.

Speaker 7 (25:04):
The in depth analysis Holiday spirit.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Anyway, what do you have cooking for us today?

Speaker 8 (25:09):
So we're gonna do the same thing we did the
Buffalo Bill's road game, which was the second matchup where
we're going to I went back and I dug through
the podcast feed and I found some of your guys's
quotes from the first Miami Dolphins pop the Black Friday podcast,
And I just want to see how your feelings in
expectations changed from these.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
Black Friday feels like it was forever ago and it
was only like three weeks, which is terrifying.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:36):
Yeah, we're trying to remember. We're trying to forget that
game too.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Cynthia, have you have you dove into your holiday shopping since,
because I remember you said you did not.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
I have.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
I'm not done, but I'm like seventy five percent of them. Okay,
I'm pretty pretty excited about it. I sat down and
just bang it all out. I'm an internet shopper.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
I can't. I can't go to the mall. I can't.
I can't do it.

Speaker 1 (25:56):
Yeah, I can't do it either. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (26:00):
Ready, all right, let's rock. All right. First quote I
have is an Ethan Greenberg special.

Speaker 1 (26:05):
This one just to give it the way you said
that makes me feel like it's just like, did not
age well at all.

Speaker 8 (26:10):
I would say all these aged relatively well, okay, but
we'll start with this one. This one was about the
Dolphins defense. I can't do an Ethan impression, so I'll refray.
I'll spare you all. I would go as far to
say that this Dolphins defense is overlooked. You were like, look,
Tyreek kill, Jalen Waddle, Tua, Ballin', ballin', ballin' and then

(26:32):
you go to the defense and you say to yourself,
what do we have here? We have a good defense
that's led by Vic Fangio and Jalen Ramsey inserted back
into the lineup. Is taking that defense to another level?

Speaker 1 (26:43):
Yeah? I think that aged pretty well.

Speaker 8 (26:45):
I would say it did Jalen. I mean with the
Jalen Ramsey addition. Over their last six games, they're allowing
seventeen point eight points per game one hundred and eighty
eight passing yards per game. But I guess how things
have changed from that last matchup is no Jalen Phillips.
In the last two games, the Dolphins have averaged only
two sacks per game. Before they were averaging three and
a half secks. So that would kind of be the

(27:06):
big shift and what would maybe change your expectations for
this game, Cynthia.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
They did add Melvin ingram who, by the way, his
rap is pretty good, so if you want to go
see what he was doing last week.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Can we talk about Joe Flacco.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
Having been on the couch with the Week prior to starting,
Firth Browns Melvin Ingram throwing down.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Some Yeah, he's.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
A great rapper. I can't remember his rap name, but
I'll text it to you later. I'll it's it's it's
it's interesting. But I think one name that we forgot
to say that we need to is Javon Holland because
he's been playing really well as well, just as a
just because we're complete here, have.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
You ever heard a total side note? Have you ever
heard the Wu Tang generator? The name generator? No where
like have you, Cynthia?

Speaker 2 (27:48):
Yes? But Jp, do you know who Wu Tang is.

Speaker 7 (27:51):
Like the Wu Tang clan? Yeah, yes, I know who
the Wu Tang clan is. Cynthia, you're like twelve, I'm
not sure according to you're like two years older than me.
It's what would you.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Like to know your routang name, Cynthia? I would it
is well thought of? Raven, Yeah, like the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 7 (28:11):
That's great.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
That would nose over Raven.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Make right now, Polano, this is this is a great name.
Angry Desperado.

Speaker 7 (28:25):
That fits me. Now, that's that's perfect, actually.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Angry esperando, that's a good one. And then mine is
I've never heard of this word indolent or indolent, indolent nobility.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
Oh like, I think that word that we I don't
even try to say. It means like like you're like bright,
like uh like, it's bright, shining, it's uh.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
Like yeah, yeah, I know what you're saying. It's totally
totally not that based on this dictionary definition, wanting to
avoid activity or exertion. Lazy, Oh well you're lazy?

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Okay? Whatever?

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Great? Anyway, A right, sorry for that tangent.

Speaker 7 (29:14):
Back to this.

Speaker 8 (29:15):
As a guy who works for the New York Jets
and is around the team and roots for the team,
you want them.

Speaker 7 (29:20):
To have success.

Speaker 8 (29:21):
Are you more afraid of this Dolphins defense now or
the when they played them on Black Friday?

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Camel, by the way, is his name or ypil? Easy enough?

Speaker 1 (29:33):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (29:33):
Great?

Speaker 1 (29:34):
Great?

Speaker 2 (29:35):
Just how to round that out? You know?

Speaker 1 (29:36):
Yeah, I appreciate that. Really. Putting a bowl on top
of the present, I guess, or a cherry on top
of the Sunday Sunday I often accidentally say cherry on
top of the stem, which doesn't make sense, but anyway,
am I. I think this Dolphins defense is probably better
than it was two weeks ago. Just it's it's twofold,
like it's worse because they don't have Jalen Phillips. So

(29:58):
I but the more reps Jalen Ramsey takes, the healthier
he becomes. The more the more like more time on
task as a secondary communication, like from a Jets perspective,
you see Sauce Gardner, DJ Reed MC two like those
three guys. More they play together, the better they become.
So I think it's probably all things considered about equal.

(30:21):
I mean, that's kind of where I stand.

Speaker 7 (30:23):
Cynthia as an outside I would just.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
Add that I would just add that the complementary aspect
of football doesn't favor what's happened upfront to them, meaning
injury to the front allows you a better opportunity for
short passes and for the run game. But if you
if your offense isn't able to keep scoring points at
the rate we're used to them, like you're gonna want
the teams are going to run against them. So it

(30:44):
kind of exempt it kind of like shines a spotlight
on the things that are a weakness and minimizes the strengths, Like,
if you're passing against them, you're in trouble, right, But
if you can run or leverage shorter passes, then it's
eas So I will say I agree with you that
I think it's like it's it's a little bit different.
But if the Jets can get off to a fast
lead and run the football and chew up the clock,

(31:07):
that will be helpful because this offense is going to
struggle with their O line changes.

Speaker 8 (31:11):
Yep, all right, so you'd stay generally on the same track.
I feel like we can give you like a B
plus for your initial take.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Thank you.

Speaker 8 (31:17):
All right, now we're gonna we're gonna shift to a
Cynthia quote. So this one is pertaining to the Jets
pass rush. So she said, I think the Jets have
a really significant chance to disrupt to his timing and
get to in an uncomfortable position where he's under pressure.
There won't be the same great result they normally have.
I mean, based on what happened in the game, it

(31:40):
wasn't like absolutely spot on, but he still had two interceptions.
He threw for two hundred and forty three yards. Cynthia,
how would you adjust that expectation I actually.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
Think it's a better opportunity to be disruptive in this one,
given the O line stuff that we already outlined. And
also I think, just as you were talking about Ethan,
like the fact that the secondary has been playing together
and last week looks really great in a lot of
different like CJ. Before CJ got hurt, You're still going
up against a guy who's he's kind of an unknown,

(32:11):
still a rookie, but but also very good. So they
looked great against him before he went out, obviously.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
And I will say that like just a difference wise,
like the Dolphins obviously are just more talented, like compared
to the Texans. But if it really is raining like that,
like the Jets defense has done a very good job
since playing the Dolphins of stopping the run, and I'm
not and partly I think it is because of the opponent.

(32:38):
Like the Falcons had the NFL's fourth overall rushing offense.
The Jets bottled up the Falcons rushing attack. They're like,
you know what, bro, they lost that game, understood. Then
they play the Texans and Motor Devin Motor Singletary have
like an okay game. I don't really run the ball.
So the Jets have allowed an average of eighty five
point five yards per carry over the last two games,

(32:59):
seventh in the league in that span three point two
yards per carry. That's fourth best in the NFL in
that two week stretch. Now, going up against a much
different offense Raheem Moster devon a chan very good rushing attack.
But if the weather is bad and they can't throw
the ball and they have or they can't throw the
ball as well as they usually do and the weather's

(33:20):
bad like I said, and the offensive line injuries like
that's big time in my opinion, advantage Jets.

Speaker 8 (33:27):
Yeah, I've written in my nose in big bold letters,
is positive regression versus negative regression. And I mean, regardless
of what Miami has been doing last couple of weeks,
which they actually have been fine statistically, passing the ball
in two has been fine. He hasn't been sacked all
that much. The Jets defense has been positively regressing. I mean,
seven sacks and fourteen QB hits in two games against

(33:47):
a team that likes to pass the ball a lot
and team that likes run the ball a lot.

Speaker 7 (33:50):
That's just that's all positive.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
So and Raheem Moster, just as a side note, has
been fantastic against the Jets in his career. Two touchdowns
earlier this year, a couple weeks ago, he had two touchdowns.
Monday night he had the twenty twenty touchdown Week two
San Francisco, forty nine ers here I met life. Yeah,
he's done well against the Jets in the past. I
just I think that the Jets are really gonna have

(34:12):
to key in on stopping the run.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
Yeah, so are you okay?

Speaker 3 (34:16):
So Raheem Mostert has sixteen touchdowns himself, right, yep, which
is more than twenty five separate NFL teams have in
terms of touchdowns this season as an aggregate group.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
That's insane.

Speaker 4 (34:30):
That's sick.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
Yeah, hey, that's crazy.

Speaker 7 (34:32):
That's sick.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
So they loved him in the red area, is what
we're saying.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Yeah, fantasy football playoffs anybody? Ye hope you heard that?

Speaker 6 (34:40):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (34:41):
Yes?

Speaker 8 (34:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Wait, speaking of fantasy, we're gonna have to talk about
this after because I'm gonna bind. I'm going to bind.

Speaker 8 (34:48):
Okay, keep even in your thoughts and prayers, everybody, thank please? Anyway,
all right, well we'll go to one more here. This
wasn't exactly a quote. But you guys both at the
end of that Miami pod you gave out under the
radar players. Ethan, I don't think you could have nailed
this one you picked, okay, So here's the quote. One

(35:08):
player I want to shout out is safety Javon Holland,
the highest graded safety by PFF in twenty twenty three.
Just a really smart player. Wherever he lines up, you
have to account for him, as people may not remember
or remember. May picked six.

Speaker 2 (35:26):
We blocked that out.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Yeah, okay, so Ethan, are your are you holding me
responsible for that?

Speaker 8 (35:34):
Partly in not so many words? But so I was
going to ask you for a new under the radar
player and then we'll get to Cynthia's after this.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Well let me know who Cynthia. Can we remind who
Cynthia's was?

Speaker 8 (35:47):
Okay, So Cynthia you picked, and this is also you
pretty much nailed it. You picked defense van Bryce Hoff
who had a sack attackle for loss and a QB
hit in that game and has been incredible the last
two weeks as well. So you were just like long term,
picked a great guy. So you both nailed your under
the radar pick. So no pressure to get this exactly
right again.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Yeah, yeah, But in my mind, like I don't think
Devon a Chan's under the radar, Like I don't know,
I feel like offensive players usually get like a lot
of publicity. So I'm it's important because he hasn't played
against the Jets in his career, because he's a rookie
and he didn't play in Week twelve, And obviously he's

(36:27):
great in terms of average, But I'm gonna stick on
the defensive side of the ball, and I'm gonna say
Christian Wilkins because Christian Wilkins is a I think. I
don't Maybe I'm wrong on this. I don't feel like
he's talked about in the same bane as Chris Jones,

(36:47):
Aaron Donalds, Quinn Williams, Jeffrey Simmons. He's like right under
that group, I think. But he's having a very good
season for the Dolphins, and I don't know, he seems
like an instigator, Like he talks a little talk. Yeah,
he walks a little walk, and I think that, Like
you look at his sack numbers. I think he's at
seven now. It's very impressive what he's doing. And with

(37:09):
the Jets having kind of like a rotation at center
over the past season, I'd say, like that's gonna be
an important piece of the puzzle here, especially if he
lines up over the right guard, who last week was
Jay Canson, the week before that was Wes Schweitzer, the
week before that might have been Exavier Newman. Like, there's
been a lot of players at that spot, and I
think that if you're the Dolphins defense of your vic fangio,

(37:31):
you're looking at that spot to maybe try to take
advantage of. And I got my eyes on Christian Wilkins.

Speaker 8 (37:36):
Yeah, just for the record, seven and a half sacks,
nine tackles for lost, eighteen QB hits, He's been otherworldly.
There you go.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
So I'm going more under the radar.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
I'm going with durham smythe why because tight end needs
to block.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
They need help.

Speaker 3 (37:51):
I don't know what's gonna happen with this O line,
but I think he's going to be very helpful. Plus
they target him every now and again, and those quick
passes aren't gonna look as great when you're having pressure
that fast in your face. So while I think that,
I think that it's going to be like hard to
figure out where the holes in the Jets defenses.

Speaker 2 (38:09):
The tight end.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
Position has been an area where they're like a little
bit of giving up at least fantasy points to that position.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
Also, just shout out to both kickers in this game.
If you're really talking about implement weather rain. I don't
know what the win factor is, but Jason Sanders is
a good kicker. That's and so is Greg Zerline. So
that's another a pair of under the radar guys. Also,
Jerome Baker not playing in this game, right, he got
hurt since the Jets game. That's just something to keep

(38:38):
that's something to keep an eye on.

Speaker 8 (38:39):
Also, absolutely those are all the quotes I have.

Speaker 7 (38:42):
But you guys, I just eight pluses across the board.

Speaker 1 (38:45):
Thank you, Cynthia. We did a good job to see.

Speaker 7 (38:49):
So I just hope to be like you one day.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
Look, I've been quoted by freezing Cold takes before. Actually,
like my Twitter, yes, and so I thought I made it.
Then I really made it. Now what did you tweet?
It was something that it was I don't remember exactly
what it was. It was a quote of something like
someone said something in a press conference. I quoted it

(39:12):
and tweeted it and then I got quote tweeted by
Freezing Cold Takes down the Road. So with that being said,
that's a perfect way to end this episode of the
game Preview podcast Jets Dolphins Week fifteen in Miami. The
Dolphins right now nine to four, the New York Jets
sitting at five and eight, slim playoff hope, but playoff

(39:34):
hopes still remain. Gonna need this win if they want
those hopes to remain, and then maybe we could theorize
and see maybe if number eight wants to get back involved.
But regardless, that's a game preview podcast presented by LifeLock,
John Pilano, Cynthia Freeland, coach Sala Ea, and myself signing
off until next week when the Jets host the Washington
