I hear community is proud to bea part of Berdie's for Charity with the
Travelers Championship the TPC River Highlands inCromwell. You can enjoy the play June
seventeenth through the twenty fourth, andnow through end of play you can donate
to Birdie's for Charity sponsored by WebsterBank. We're charities or earn fifteen percent
to every dollar donated. We areon the line with one of those charities.
(00:21):
Please welcome the President of the JuniorLeague of Hartford, Michelle Sack.
Thank you for being here today.Michelle, thank you so much for having
us Renee. Absolutely Now, beforewe get into anything, let our audience
know who you are and how youhelp. Absolutely so. We are the
Junior League of Hartford and as anorganization, our mission is to advance women's
(00:42):
leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteeraction, collaboration and training. And our
organization has been around for one hundredplus years making a lasting impact in the
greater Hartford community. Well, youdon't look a day over ninety nine.
How can we follow you on socialmedia and become, you know, active
(01:03):
in helping you and maybe after yougive us your social media handles, you
can let us know exactly what wouldbe most helpful to you. Absolutely,
so you can follow us on socialWe're on Twitter, We're on Facebook and
Instagram, and you can just followus at Junior League of Hartford. And
so the way in which we canfurther our mission is for any you know,
(01:30):
members of the community and businesses toconsider sponsoring us or donating to our
annual Volunteers On Events. So wehosted our eighth annual Volunteers On Events on
April twenty sixth and twenty seventh, and over the course of the weekend,
members and family and friends volunteered onehundred and twenty three volunteers collectively volunteered three
(01:59):
hundred than five hours over the courseof the weekend. So our Volunteerison event
is meant to be like a marathon. So we collectively volunteer consecutive twenty six
point two hours over the course ofthe weekend with you know, seventeen organizations
across Greater Hartford. And it wasa really awesome opportunity to not only you
(02:21):
know, get our name out there, but really show support for these community
partners that we work with, youknow, really throughout the year and what
are some of the things that youdid within the community. Yeah, so
a few of the organizations that wesupported over the course of the weekend,
and you know, just some ofthe highlights. So, we sorted over
(02:44):
three hundred pounds of food at foodShare. We made one hundred and twenty
five coach bracelets for Girls on theRun Hartford. We also served eighty two
meals at Loaves and Fishes in Ministry. Yeah, there were quite a few
(03:07):
things. We participated in, severalevents that were already happening, to collect
trash and pick up litter in PopePark and on Park Road. So it
was really great to kind of getout there and have just a lot of
support from you know, other communityorganizations and get a chance to kind of
partner with them. Congratulations to you, your team and all of your partners
(03:28):
for making a difference, because youknow, one small act can have had
such a trickle down effect, right, I truly believe that. And you
know, these dollars you're getting fromthe Travelers Championship, specifically the Bertice Charity
with fifteen percent of every dollar earnednow through through end of play, only
enhances what you do for all ofthese organizations, especially with the local women
(03:51):
you're helping giving them the tools theyneed to positively impact the communities that they
live in. So if you wouldn'tmind, Michelle, tell them how important
these extra dollars from Bertie's for Charityare to you and the Junior League of
Hartford. Absolutely, and that's exactlyit. So this is going to support
(04:11):
and continue to fuel our mission toempower women's leadership, so supporting our community
partners and even funding our grant recipients. So this year, you know,
we're really grateful and honored to beable to partner specifically with Journey Home and
the Diaper Bank of Connecticut, andthese funds that we raise through birdies of
Bertie's for Charity is really going tohelp us continue to fund and support these
(04:36):
key partnerships. You know, ifsomeone's listening right now and they haven't joined
up for Bertie's for Charity this year, it's still not too late. You
could join any time, right Butwhat would you say to a charity listening
right now that isn't a part ofthis Because it's super easy to do and
it's at no cost and no riskto the charity. So maybe Michelle coming
(04:59):
from you, a person who benefitsfrom this, you could sort of explain
to another charity listening right now whythey should do it. Absolutely so this
has probably been one of the keyingredients to make our event successful. The
Birdie's for Charity site has allowed usto very easily connect with and kind of
(05:19):
have that branding associated with our organizationto help drive our fundraising efforts. Another
thing that I know has been reallyhelpful for our donors is there's no processing
fee to donate. That's significant. It's always so much more enticing to know
that your funds are going directly tothe organization you're supporting. And you know
(05:45):
what's also really great is that ithas just been such an easy process.
And the fact that Webster Bank iscontributing fifteen percent on top of what we
have donated is just it's absolutely phenomenal, and it does to your mission and
what you do because charities, Godbless you. You can stretch a dollar
(06:05):
like nobody's business, and to stretchit with an extra fifteen percent, that's
pretty incredible, right, exactly exactly, And we are definitely still fundraising.
Our event just concluded, but weare still fundraising towards our volunte erathon,
and we you know, we areexcited to be able to kind of have
(06:26):
this opportunity to continue getting our nameout there. You bet you bet to
all right, well, Travelers Championshipdot com. You can click on Birdies
for Charity, scroll through the charities, find one that resonates with you,
maybe Junior League of Hartford will andyou can pick one or more and for
every dollar donated, Webster Bank makesthat fifteen percent impact. Extra bonus bucks.
(06:47):
There are extra birdi Bucks. Excuseme that we got to have like
a you know, a tagline er. It's Birdie Bucks. But that is
so impactful to all of these charitiesand so meaningful. So now through end
up late June twenty fourth, youcan make a difference. Visit Travelers Championship
dot com and you can also goto my community access dot com. Here
our interview with Michelle Sock, presidentof the Junior League of Harford again and
(07:10):
get directly linked up with them.So I wish you lots of Birdie bucks,
and I can't wait hopefully get tosee you out at the tournament.
I'll be in the fans when wecome visit me. Yes, absolutely,
