(00:00):
We're thrilled. The Rockies are rollingseven straight wins, two sweeps, including
the World champions and we head outto the KWA Common Spirit Health Highline and
bring on a very good friend ofthe program, as you just heard him,
the voice of the Rockies, JackCorgan. Jack, you're on with
Dave Ryan. How are you, man, I'm good. Thanks. Hey,
those people you just had on,they sounded excited, you know,

(00:21):
I was. We talked about yesterdayJack, when we played your your call,
the final out and the booze rainingraining down on San Diego. I
actually, of course, you know, a Rockies fan, I actually kind
of enjoyed that. But I'm gonnaask you to start with just a very
simple question. So what has goneon? Yeah, you know, Dave,

(00:44):
that's you know, baseball, asyou know, you being such a
great sports fan that you are andbeing a former player, baseball is very
streaking. You know, you're neveras good and you or great moments as
that, or as bad as youare in the awful moments. And I

(01:07):
think this team for a variety ofreasons. I don't know that underachieved is
the right word, but just didn'thave the same vim and vigor if you
will or whatever, in early goingbetween injuries and some ineffective pitching, and
I just think they they finally startedgetting some pitching and especially out of the

(01:33):
starters and the hitting as it goesup and down, they found some footing
and build on the momentum and thereyou go. Well, I also say
the defense because early on in theseason it just seemed like the guys were
sometimes making just really kind of weirderrors and weird mental errors. And I

(01:53):
feel like it has kind of allsort of come together. But this is
one of the frustrating things about beinga Rockies fan is there be days where
the pitcher would go six innings, give you a quality start, but the
hitters wouldn't show up. It finallyis all kind of coming together. And
to your point, what do youthink do you point to a moment like,
hey, that first win of theseven game series? That is that

(02:15):
part of what sort of sparks things? You know? It's it's a good,
good question. There's there's no doubtthat they anticipated that the defense would
be one of their strengths, regardlessof how the pitching and hitting might eve
and flow, that the defense wasgoing to be solid and that certainly contributed

(02:38):
to perhaps a mindset or whatever earlyon that they weren't as good defensively as
they thought they were going to be. And and this is really who they
are. They do have a lotof really good defenders, and so as
the defense shored up, it helpsthe pitching a little bit, although the

(02:59):
walks are driving in everybody creating. And then you know, maybe at the
start of the streak, you know, they had the seven run inning against
the Giants with Quadrille on the mound, and the Giants had bases loaded or
two men on. And the followinginning and Conforto was at the plate and

(03:22):
had hit a home run the previousinning off of cal And and Quantrill got
him to get into an inning endingdouble play, and he had a big
fist pump and a you know, primal scream as he came off the field,
and you could see it echoing throughthe rest of the dugout. And
they played great that day, andthey'd gone six more in a row,

(03:46):
kind of feeding off that emotional release, if you will. We're talking to
Voice of the Rockies, Jack Corgan. Rockies have won seven straight games,
and certainly it's been enjoyable for usto listen. I gotta think it's been
pretty cool for Jack and Jerry tocall those games. So Jack, I
said, when they started so slowlyand people were saying, what, okay,

(04:06):
what do you think do you whatdo we expect? I said,
you have to give for me,at least you got to give one hundred
and sixty two game season. Youhave to give them a quarter of the
season before I can come up withany sort of fair analysis. And so
around the forty game mark, theywere twelve and twenty eight. After forty
But I want to ask you now, as we sit here today, are

(04:28):
there a couple of guys, maybetwo or three that come to mind for
you, that have absolutely, fromBuddy's perspective or from the front office perspective,
lived up to exactly what the Rockiesthought they were gonna get. Yeah,
I would say there's probably four guysfor sure. They challenged Ryan McMahon

(04:51):
in the offseason too, if youwill become a leader, you know,
not necessarily the huge raw rock guy, although Macks has good emotion, but
it was one of those things.Bill Schmidt challenged him when he said,
hey, we gave you this bigcontract because we had the expectation that you're

(05:14):
going to go out and be thestar that we think you are, not
just offensively, but be much moreconsistent offensively. And Mac has had a
great start to the season with thebat, his best offensive start in his
career, and like Ryan said before, with bad defense. I mean he's
been a finalist for the Gold Glovefor the last three seasons and in the

(05:38):
first two weeks, you know,he had four airs and you're like wow,
and so Max settled in very quietly. Ezekiel Tovar is going to be
a star. I mean if hestays healthy, his maturity, his approach
to the game, his coachability thatyou can relate to Dave, you know,

(06:01):
takes instructions so well. And whileyou might not notice it at twenty
two, he's got control of thatclubhouse and that dugout. If Zeke says
something, people listen, So,I mean, that's that's a good thing.
And for me, I've been thrilledto see what Brenton Doyle has done

(06:26):
this year. I mean, hewas a kid last year who you saw
the defense. Obviously, first NationalLeague rookie outfielder to win a Gold Doff
as a center fielder. But Imean, he barely hit two hundred and
struck out and chased a lot ofpitches, and they challenged him to adjust

(06:46):
his swing, and you know, the kid was fanatical about it in the
off season. And you know,I don't know if he's ever going to
be a three hundred hitter, buthe's always had the raw power and now
he's hitting. You know, ifhe hits two seventy five and the bases
he's gonna steal with the speed andthe defense he plays, you'll take.

(07:09):
You'll take all of that. Andthat's you know, those guys. Plus
I didn't know what to expect, but I had a lot of belief in
Quantrill if his shoulder was good, being a guy to help the rotation.
And Cal's really been good. He'sbeen really good, no doubt about it.

(07:30):
The Rockies back at it tomorrow night, taking on the Giants in the
Bay Area. Thank you so muchfor the time, Jack, You're the
best. We appreciate you. Nota problem, guys, and uh enjoy
uh mini camp there, guys, because I'm envious to see how Sean's gonna
make that young quarterback work. Weall are, all all are, no

(07:51):
doubt man Jack, thanks for thetime. Okay, guys,
